Speaker 1: Thanks Mike. Yes, we are here with the birthday boy
• 0:03
Speaker 1: who promised to talk to us only if I stopped singing.
• 0:07
Speaker 1: It's the centennial for the Red Wings here this season.
• 0:09
Speaker 1: You've spent the bulk of your NHL career. You debuted
• 0:12
Speaker 1: here in Detroit. You were roommates with Steve Weiserman back
• 0:16
Speaker 1: in the day. What do you remember about your time
• 0:19
Speaker 1: here in Motown and again a team that you're very
• 0:22
Speaker 1: familiar with as a player and as a coach now
• 0:25
Speaker 1: coming up on one hundred years, just your your memories
• 0:28
Speaker 1: of Detroit and your thoughts on this organization that you
• 0:31
Speaker 1: played a lot of your NHL career with.
• 0:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean the organization is unbelievable. You know
• 0:38
Speaker 2: when when we first came in or when I first
• 0:40
Speaker 2: came in here as a young nineteen year old, you know,
• 0:45
Speaker 2: it was it was a real eye opener, you know
• 0:47
Speaker 2: where you know, there was more people at the at
• 0:51
Speaker 2: the opening game, you know, at Joe Louis Arena than
• 0:54
Speaker 2: lived in my town in swift Kern, Siskatchewan.
• 0:56
Speaker 3: So you know, you grew up and it's.
• 0:58
Speaker 2: Kind of like a real sort of a real, I
• 1:01
Speaker 2: guess eye opener. And you know, but I thought the
• 1:06
Speaker 2: management team ownership, you know, they had just taken over
• 1:09
Speaker 2: the year prior to me and Izermand coming here. They
• 1:13
Speaker 2: had a heck of a draft in nineteen eighty three,
• 1:15
Speaker 2: getting you know, Joey Kosher, Bob Probert, Peter Klima, you know,
• 1:20
Speaker 2: guys that laid the foundation for this hockey team for
• 1:23
Speaker 2: years to come. And we're integral parts of their Stanley
• 1:25
Speaker 2: cups and so the you know, the management hasn't and
• 1:29
Speaker 2: does a great job here. And you know, my time
• 1:33
  Speaker 2: here was fantastic.
• 1:35
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 1:35
Speaker 2: It was, like I say, it was first couple of
• 1:38
Speaker 2: years and first three years in the National Hockey League,
• 1:41
Speaker 2: and what more did you want as a as a
• 1:43
Speaker 2: nineteen year old kid, you know, your dream had come
• 1:45
Speaker 2: true and you just tried to do your best every day.
• 1:48
Speaker 1: Between you and Steve Eiserman, who was the cleaner roommate,
• 1:51
Speaker 1: who was the one that would clean up after themselves more?
• 1:54
Speaker 2: You know what, I got to tell you that I
• 1:56
Speaker 2: think it was me, but I'll tell you.
• 1:58
Speaker 3: That I'm sure we were both horrendous.
• 2:03
Speaker 2: So you know, and I look at my kids and go, like,
• 2:06
Speaker 2: you know, clean up your room, you know, and why
• 2:08
Speaker 2: can't you be cleaner?
• 2:09
Speaker 3: Than that. I'm pretty sure that I was no better
• 2:12
  Speaker 3: than that.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: On the road first of four here tonight, following taking
• 2:16
Speaker 1: five of six points on your home stand last week,
• 2:19
Speaker 1: what went right for your group and what did you make.
• 2:22
Speaker 3: Of those three games for Seattle? Uh, you know, I
• 2:26
Speaker 3: I liked. I liked a lot about our game. You know,
• 2:29
  Speaker 3: there are certain.
• 2:30
Speaker 2: Pockets in the game obviously that you you know, you're
• 2:32
Speaker 2: not maybe happy with, but that's always gonna happen.
• 2:35
Speaker 3: That's going to be in every game, you know. I
• 2:38
Speaker 3: thought for the most.
• 2:39
Speaker 2: Part, we defended pretty well, and you know, we found
• 2:45
Speaker 2: a way to score some goals, which was nice to see.
• 2:48
Speaker 2: We needed to and we need to continue doing.
• 2:51
Speaker 3: That as we move forward.
• 2:52
Speaker 2: And here tonight, you know, against a high octane offensive
• 2:55
Speaker 2: hockey team, we've got to defend well.
• 2:57
Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, you guys really flipped the Seattle crack
• 3:00
Speaker 1: and can't score goals narrative last week. Offensively, What do
• 3:04
Speaker 1: you feel led to the success that you had now
• 3:07
Speaker 1: nine goals in your last two games.
• 3:10
Speaker 2: Well, I think that you know, it's funny because some
• 3:15
Speaker 2: nights they go in and some nights they don't, and
• 3:18
Speaker 2: a lot of nights you have the same opportunities, and
• 3:21
Speaker 2: you know, so it's not necessarily that you can't. It's
• 3:26
Speaker 2: just some nights that they just don't go in or
• 3:28
Speaker 2: you don't. And I think that, you know, overall, I
• 3:30
Speaker 2: think we did a little better job of capitalizing on
• 3:33
Speaker 2: our opportunities obviously, and you know, we did a better
• 3:37
Speaker 2: job of having net presence.
• 3:39
Speaker 3: You know, if you look at Adam Marson's goal, Marchman's
• 3:41
Speaker 3: in front of the net. We have to continue to
• 3:43
  Speaker 3: get in.
• 3:43
Speaker 2: Front of the goaltender and give ourselves a chance to
• 3:46
Speaker 2: have succession by just shooting box. We talked about that,
• 3:49
Speaker 2: We talked about shot volume, and we talked about shots
• 3:52
Speaker 2: getting through to the net rather than getting blocked or
• 3:55
Speaker 2: us taking too long to get them away and somebody
• 3:57
Speaker 2: getting a stick on it.
• 3:58
Speaker 3: So, you know, we have to continue do with that narrative.
• 4:01
Speaker 1: Moving to tonight, joe with Decord comes off of IR
• 4:04
Speaker 1: and Matt Murray not on the trip. Goldening has been
• 4:08
Speaker 1: a huge reason for this team's success this season. Could
• 4:11
Speaker 1: you share any updates on h Matt Murray and and
• 4:14
Speaker 1: then for Joey to Cord if he does come back
• 4:17
Speaker 1: in tonight or on this trip, what are you expecting
• 4:20
Speaker 1: defensively to help protect him and ease him back in
• 4:22
  Speaker 1: the game action.
• 4:23
Speaker 2: Well, we just have to play, you know, I have
• 4:25
Speaker 2: to play solid in front of him, just like we
• 4:27
Speaker 2: do any other night. You know, he's gonna help us.
• 4:31
Speaker 2: I think he's going to help us with our breakouts
• 4:33
Speaker 2: and stuff with the puck movement, you know, but we've
• 4:36
Speaker 2: got to just like any other night, we talk about
• 4:39
Speaker 2: creating a good environment for our goaltender and try and
• 4:41
Speaker 2: keep you know, cry and keep their scoring chances, uh,
• 4:45
Speaker 2: you know, at a minimal and certainly high danger ones
• 4:48
Speaker 2: at a minimal, you know. And it's gonna be tough tonight,
• 4:51
Speaker 2: Like I you know, I've been in this division and
• 4:54
Speaker 2: this conference for a long time, and you know it's
• 4:58
Speaker 2: it's a hockey team that can create opportunities. And so
• 5:01
Speaker 2: we're going to be challenged tonight to you know, to
• 5:04
Speaker 2: protect our goaltender, protect our NetFront. And we're going to
• 5:08
Speaker 2: have to do that if we want to win the
• 5:09
  Speaker 2: hockey game tonight.
• 5:10
Speaker 1: The Red Wings had three players with seven or more
• 5:13
Speaker 1: shots their last time out against the Rangers. They're a
• 5:15
Speaker 1: team that gets a very high volume of shots. What
• 5:19
Speaker 1: type of problems do you think this team can present
• 5:22
Speaker 1: to your group tonight.
• 5:24
Speaker 2: Well, look at you know, they're doing what we talk
• 5:29
Speaker 2: about doing, and that's putting pucks on that de and
• 5:32
Speaker 2: what that does is, you know, it might not be
• 5:34
Speaker 2: the first shot that comes in that's really a scoring chance,
• 5:38
Speaker 2: but you know they're looking at seconds and thirds. So
• 5:41
Speaker 2: we have to do a good job in front of
• 5:42
Speaker 2: our goaltender and certainly we've got to make sure that
• 5:46
Speaker 2: we don't give them an opportunity for second chances and
• 5:49
Speaker 2: third chances and saying that how do you do that, Well,
• 5:55
Speaker 2: you better be prepared to battle. And it's going to
• 5:57
Speaker 2: be a lot of one on one battles at our
• 5:58
Speaker 2: paint and we've got to get their cold temper and
• 6:00
Speaker 2: get their paint as well.
