- 0:06SPEAKER_00: So, welcome to On Point from Weston today, where we introduce you to really extraordinary people with remarkable stories who may help change the way we look at the world or the way we live our lives.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: So, in terms of changing how we look at the world, I can think of no one better, Charles, than to talk to someone who sort of deals with maybe another world out there.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: So, Charles Roseney, you are probably one of the most knowledgeable people about the events of the paranormal, et cetera, in Connecticut, which has so many extraordinary stories.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And you've really spent a good part of your life or your lifetime studying this and translating all of it into your, you've authored books, uh, you hold events, et cetera.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: So whether you believe or whether you don't believe, I think it'll be really interesting to hear from you and sort of separate perhaps myth from mystery.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: So this is probably not the most obvious career path one would take.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Um so paranormal investigator, author, historian.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: How did this all, how and when did this all start?
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: So uh you say uh spent many years.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: It's actually not the case.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: I'm part of a paranormal investigation team called The Shaman and the Showman.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: And it started out with the shaman being the expert, the psychic, the medium, the exorcist, everything all-knowing.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: And I was that non-believer.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: I was the skeptic, I was the entertainer who came along and we did investigations, and I would goof on it and I would say, Come on, this can't be real.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: And then, but the more I did it, the more and more I got engulfed in the whole paranormal field.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: I couldn't play that part anymore.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: You know, I became uh someone who not only does investigations but helps in crossing over spirits and on and on and on.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: But uh, I'll tell you how it came about is um I have a long history of being uh in the entertainment field.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: I DJ on weekends, I'm an MC at weddings and bar mitzvahs and school dances and all that, and that's always been my main vocation.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: But in addition, I produce a lot of uh events, I produce the Beatles festivals in Connecticut, uh tours to England for Beatles fans.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: And as a as a sort of a spin-off to that, I started doing Dracula tours to Transylvania where we would go uh to Romania and visit all the castles and all the places involved with Dracula and Vlad and all that.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: So horror has always that's always been a part of my life.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: You can even see some monsters behind me.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I saw them Ladosi.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And my first book was the book of top 10 uh horror lists, was really the first book I ever put out.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: And that was followed by a book on the Beatles, and that was followed by a ghost book, and it all came about because of my love for everything unusual, unexplained.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: And to me, um, the paranormal was actually a branch off of the horror field.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Now, a strict paranormal people might not say the same thing.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Someone who's into UFOs won't say, you know, we're into you know the spooky stuff.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Someone who's into cryptids and Bigfoot and Sasquatch, each of these are separate, you know, divisions of the bigger picture.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: But to me, it's not.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: To me, it's all the uh either music or the the spooky stuff, and I love them both equally, and that's taken me on a career path that I never thought it would, but really over the past decade, it's not something that you know uh that I've been with from day one where I grew up and you know was afraid of uh beings in my room and imaginary friends under the bed and all that.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: So when this began-ish about about 10 years ago, was there a moment of something that happened or something you experienced that turned you from sort of being the entertainer person about this to wow, there's there's something here?
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: It wasn't uh an uh uh an actuality or an experience as much as it was an introduction to somebody.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: I was I own the um Fright Haven haunted attraction in Stratford many, many years, where my job was to scare people during Halloween.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: And I love doing that.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: And someone came in one day and he goes, Oh man, this place is haunted.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Yo, dude, we should do something here.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: I sure, whatever you say.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Uh uh okay, just see me after the show.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Figuring, figuring after the show, you know, no one's gonna wait around three, four hours.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Well, he waited and he and he started telling me how you know he's an he's an expert on the paranormal, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: And we should do an event and approving the paranormal.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I go, sure, we'll do it.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: We tried it, very successful.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: And uh, he said, You do the Beatles conventions, you do you go to horror shows, horror conventions.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Why don't we do a paranormal convention?
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: And I said, I'm sure they have them in Connecticut.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: And he said, No, there was never one in Connecticut.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: And we did the first ever one, it was at the Ansonia Armory in the 2000s.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: It did, it was beyond anyone's expectations.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: And so my first taste in the paranormal world was from a commercial side of it.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Someone who talked me, literally talked me into doing some events.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: And together we went on paranormal investigations where we would bring, you know, 10 folks, 20 people along, and more and more we had results.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, I would be the one who played the rolling the eyes part.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: But as I was taking pictures, I was taught if if someone feels a coldness in a corner or they're sensing something, take out the camera, take out the phone, take 20 pictures, click, click, click, click, click, click, click.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: You never know what happens.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: And Jacqueline, my I guess my uh the power, my paranormal um prowess was taking pictures and and finding amazing stuff buried in these photos.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'll show you, I'll show you actually the code.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, are you?
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: I hope you are you gonna show me the one I saw already?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: It was very scary.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: This was uh the cover of my book, and I'm I'm pointing camera.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: We really can't.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: There we go.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: I want to point to one thing specifically.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: This was in an old uh opera house.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: I saw that's the one I mean.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's the person standing there.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: I took a number of pictures of this blank door where only the sun was coming through.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: No one could be up there, it wasn't allowed for anyone to visit there.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: It was, it was, you know, it's it was a detriment.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: You would have, if you had gone up there, you'd probably fallen through, you know, the rafters.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: And I took a bunch of pictures and came home, and and one of the pictures was this shadow figure, this being.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: And I had to put it on the cover of my first ghost book because it was so oh my gosh, to me.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: And you know, uh in putting together the book, what I did is I actually interviewed people who I thought were more knowledgeable than I was, people who had experiences their whole lives.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: There's a ton of books out there.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: You go to any library, you go on Barnes and you'll see uh ghosts of Connecticut, ghosts of uh uh Wisconsin, of anywhere.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Well, those will usually tell where a place is and its history, what happened in the 1700s, why it might have a ghost in it.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I didn't want that.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: I wanted to do a book that was different than any other book that actually was firsthand experiences by people who were at these places that we may or may not have heard about throughout the state, and actually had an experience and what that experience was.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: And because I didn't have a lot of experiences up until then, I had one or two chapters, but I also put in my photography, which captured a heck of a lot.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Now, since then, as you know, I'm putting on a convention on July 11th in Connecticut, which will be our sixth annual uh CT paracon.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: And with it, it's the launch of True Ghost Stories of Connecticut.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, I saw that, yeah.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: In New England, which is the new book, and that's coming out in just a matter of days.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Let me ask you a question.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, we hear maybe it's because we live here in Connecticut, but even when I didn't live here, you hear so many stories about all these things that have happened, you know, throughout the state.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Do you think there's something unique about Connecticut, or are we just better at documenting things in Connecticut?
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: That's a great question.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: So uh I definitely think Connecticut is one of the most haunted states.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm probably biased because I'm here.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: If I was in Pennsylvania, I might say Gettysburg.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: If I was in South Carolina, you know, there's other places, and they all uh uh I'm not taking away from anywhere else that might be haunted.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: But we think about Connecticut and the war and the battles and the bloodshed.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Number one, you know, number two, Indian land, Native American land, which we took, you know, which was blessed holy land, which may have become cursed land.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Also, so much running water, so many rivers, so many streams, so many ponds, uh, that all those three things, plus the age of so many buildings, uh, really connect for a lot of elements of hauntings.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, we I mentioned we the shaman and showman and myself, we we go out and do paranormal investigations, and we'll go to buildings that have been um, you know, uh visited before by not just spirits, but by uh by people like us looking to see what's there.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: And sometimes you get results and sometimes you don't.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: I have to tell you, the more that we do, the more results we get.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: And we haven't had, I mean, there's so many plays in Connecticut, we haven't ventured into other states yet because Fairfield and the Valley and Hartford and New London are just so immersed with old buildings that have such residual energy and such spirits that you know I think we think it'll be years before we even finish doing all the all the investigations here in our state.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: So, how does a location come to your attention?
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, so how do you find out about it?
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: What has to happen?
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: What has to have happened in order for you to take the time with your team to go and investigate and invest the time, etc.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: There are a lot of places that have been visited before by other paranormal investigators.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: We try to stay away from most of those places if they've been overvisited.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: If there's spirits in a place that's been visited many times, well, then that will tell you one of two things.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: One, it the spirit doesn't want to leave, or two, there hasn't been a good enough investigator or clairvoyant to do a crossover for it.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Um, and then there's a lot of places that pride themselves on having a haunted location that don't want there to be a crossover, that don't want the spirits to leave.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot of different factions involved in that question, but we tend to find places that we know are older that we'll go into and ask, you know, the caretaker, the custodian, someone who does the historian there, has there ever been any, you know, ghosts in your place?
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: And it's usually wait, what did you hear?
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: You know, first it's the denial, and then go, well, yeah, everyone knows about, and then they go into it.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: We've been doing a lot of um of uh Elks clubs and Masonic halls, which have not been overdone as far as the paranormal investigators, and we've gotten incredible results.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: But we've also gone to places that if you're familiar with ghosts and Connecticut, those are the first ones that come up.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: A place called Dudley Town, which is in Cornwall, Connecticut, the opposite of where we live.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, and you know, in these sticks, apparently in the days when uh, you know, Britain and America weren't on the greatest terms and the war ended.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: Well, the UK, or what or what was England, you know, more than the UK at the time, they didn't send over their most highly desirable folk.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: You know, they would send the people they wanted to get rid of.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: And those people would settle, you know, different parts of uh New England, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: And uh the Dudleys were a family that settled in Connecticut and they were just bazoodies.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: They were just, you know, they started, you know, it was first robbing and stealing amongst their their own community, it became incest, it became killing each other, then eventually killing themselves to all that was left was ruins.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And we I'd heard of Dudley Town even before I was into the paranormal.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Um, I moved to Connecticut when I was about 10 years old from the Bronx.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: And when people heard that I was, you know, into monsters and horror and horror movies and all that, they go, Oh, well, do you know about Connecticut?
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: It's Dudley Town, and I never no, I didn't know about it.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: And it took years before I actually heard more about it, and then it took years before I had the I don't want to say the balls, but I had the nerve, the nerve to actually go.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: It's because I trusted, you know, the paranormal uh partner that I had.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you, are most of the places then that you investigate um, for lack of a better word, more like commercial or public space as opposed to someone's home?
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: No, just it it's pretty even.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: We've done a place in Derby that was called the Demon House, and we visited there.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: And uh actually the first time we went there, uh I guess uh the paranormal investigator who was doing the investigation got scratched, got visible scratch claw marks on his hand, and then uh got a lot of results that time.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: And the second time we went there, the owners had literally put up cameras, uh 200 cameras in each corner of every room to capture all the activity.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: And they said the activity was through the roof, and that was a case of uh of uh going to a home.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: When you think of all the places you've been, whether it's a commercial or you know, public type space or someone's home, which one investigation and why would you say is sort of sat with you the longest, or that you that just sort of sticks with you?
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna share with you uh interesting story.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: When I was putting together the first book, um I had done a chapter on Dudley Town and I had embellished other people's articles and I had put a bits and pieces and I wrote the intro, the outro, but I didn't have my experience because I didn't have a lot of experiences when I wrote the first book.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: And my proofreader and my editor and my publisher said, We can't put out a book by you without your story.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: That's why I went to bed that night.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: I said, Man, I I I'm never gonna make something up.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: I will never do that.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: I uh one of my criteria for the people who contributed to the book was don't embellish, don't make up, don't make it scary or boo, you know, don't add anything to it.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Just give me the true story.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: I'll I'll do the grammar, I'll make it sound good.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: And I woke up the next morning, I was like, one of those revelations.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I'm like, wait a second, I had an incredible experience when I was in college.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: That was a couple years ago.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: That wasn't exactly yesterday, and I'd forgotten about the Pink Lady of New Haven.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: And I thought, well, wait a second, uh, did I dream this last night?
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, how could I have not remembered it?
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: And all uh now that I'm in the paranormal field, how could I have not told the story?
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: And I remembered who I went with.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: I was in college with my buddy Ed, and Ed when I were into rock and roll, we're into monster movies, and he said he's gonna take me to the pink lady.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: And I remember thinking, uh I don't want to go to a strip joint.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: I don't what is what is the pink lady?
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: I was very scared at the concept, I didn't know what it was, and I kept putting them off, and I lived at home with my parents, and I it was the days, you know, if I was out an extra 10 minutes, I'd have to find, you know, a calling phone, a phone, you know, one of the public phones to call them.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: I remember that.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Don't worry, I will be home a little later.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Well, one day, sure enough, we went to a club.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: It was Toad's Place or Arcadia Ballroom, one of those clubs in in the 80s or 90s.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: And I said, uh, this band is terrible.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: He goes, Well, we'll wait till the next band, we'll see if they're any better.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: They were worse.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: We weren't, you know, weren't hitting on any girls.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: It was just a really bad night.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: He goes, Okay, we're gonna we're gonna go to the pink lady.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, oh no, how am I gonna get out of this?
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I've been putting them off, you know, for weeks and weeks.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: And he takes me to the seediest part of New Haven and we park under a bridge.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: We were going to Southern Connecticut State University, and I said, uh, you know, I want to go back to school on Monday.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: I don't know what's happening here.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: I'm really afraid.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: He goes, You have nothing to be afraid of.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: He rolls down the wood, rolls up the windows, does the you remember how we used to close our car doors by the way?
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, with the locks, yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: You had to do it that way because there was no power locks.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: And he proceeds to tell me about the story of the pink lady who fell in love, the the couple that were gonna be the love of forever.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Everything was perfect.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Long story short, they buy a home.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: She says, This is gonna be our home together.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: There, they're in the love, they must have been married, we don't know exactly.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: But he was called off to war.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: And he goes, It doesn't matter.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: This is what's gonna happen.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna come home.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: I'll I don't care if I come home in a Jeep, in a limo, in a bicycle, in a car, whatever it's gonna be, I will come back to you.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: And you will know it's me because I will beep the horn twice, I will flash my high beams twice, you can come out on the porch on the on the deck, you can come out in the pink negligé that I love.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I'll know that you're still waiting for me, and I'll come in and we'll pick up exactly where we left off.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Well, what happens?
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: He gets killed, of course.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: And does he come back?
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Well, at that point, Ed starts up his car, and it's like you know, one of those cars that barely can start.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: And we proceed through this really bad neighborhood in New Haven, and we take a left, and then a right, goes straight ahead, and around the corner, he goes, look up at that house.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: He beeps twice, flashes his high beam twice, and my hand to God, I tell you, this is not a lie.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: This woman or this apparition or something floats out onto the deck, onto the upper porch, looks at us with no eyes.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: It was a blank face, like like a pink shroud, a pink negligee, and no eyeballs, and fades back into the house.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: I didn't remember this, but I remember bringing my parents the next night, and the same thing happened.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: And I thought, wait, wait, wait, wait, is it is there a projector across is somebody uh playing a joke when they hear two beeps and see flashes?
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: I went a third night in a row, brought a friend so we can look in the area, and there was nothing like that.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Across across the it was all a bad neighborhood, demolished, and no, no one could have played that elaborate trick, you know, 30, 40 years ago.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I went on Facebook and found Ed and I said, Hey, how are you?
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: He goes, Great, it's been you know so many years.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: What are you up to?
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: And after the small talk, I wrote, I have to share a story with you.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: Can you please tell me if I'm imagining it?
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: And I finished with, I only just remembered this.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it was a repressed memory.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: He read what I sent him and he got gets back to me and he writes, Charles, I can't believe you just sent me this.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: I'd forgotten it until you just wrote about it.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: He goes, That's what happened verbatim, word for word.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Said, I never went back there.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: I know you brought your parents there because you told me, but I'd forgotten it until you sent that to me.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: And word for word, he vouched that it was the truth.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I put it in the book.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I I said, this was the article I've got to put in and I've got to tell the story.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: And uh it was repressed memories of both of us.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: And so when you asked me what's my most memorable paranormal experience, it wasn't recent.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: It was back then, but forgotten until now.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Wow, interesting.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you if somebody just wanted to see what's out there and they're here in Connecticut, where where would you recommend they go if they wanted to visit just to sort of see?
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Well, the first thing they should do is go to Paracon, the Paranormal Convention, because it's not just me hosting it, it's 50 vendors with merch, with um, you know, paranormal tools.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: There's there's meters, there's all kind of stuff out there that if you go on an investigation, you can see if there's something on the other side and communicate.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: And most of those people, friends of mine, are are are colleagues, they do similar things to what I do, and you can sign up and go on their events, you can you can get a country, but that's the best way, Paracon with two N's because it's Connecticut, not you know, Paracon as in convention, P-A-R-A-C-O-N-N.org.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: And that's the best way you go to an event like that.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: But otherwise, I mean, I'm the only Rosene, R-O-S-E-N-A-Y.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: And you can go on Facebook and find me and uh look me up in all those all those social media places that you kids use nowadays, and I will gladly uh respond.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: And and we do a psychic fair, you know, a few times a year.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: We do the investigations literally uh four or five times a year.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: People can join us.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: It's open to the public.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: So when you think of all the uh the documented, which one would you say has the strongest documentation a bit here in Connecticut?
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: I think most of the cases that the Warrens were involved with.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: The Warrens were, you know, we know them.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: They're our you know our dear friends uh for many years because they're in our backyard in Monroe.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: But you know, to the rest of the world, the conjuring couple, you know, they became very famous.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Whereas to us, they were, oh yeah, yeah, of course.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be at uh the at the university.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Next year doing their lecture and they want and on.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So many of their stuff is so well documented.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: It's so well preserved.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: And so many people that I'm still working with and still involved with uh were under them.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: They were students of theirs, they were doing camera work, they were with them.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: And it's very hard to dispute and and refute all the stuff that they were involved with.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: And the stuff that I was involved with, you know, through the past few years, um, very easy to document because it was all seen by so many people.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: So I have some lightning round questions for you, and then I do want to give you a chance to talk a little bit more about the convention uh since it's coming up next week.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: So, most haunted place in Connecticut?
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Probably um in in Newton, Newtown, Fair People's Asylum.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's so creepy that one of one of my associates would go in there with teams and have experiences, but when he went in there by himself, he said he was never as scared as scared in his life because the doors were closing behind him and he had to get out of there.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, is one uh top-of-the-list place you still want to investigate in Connecticut?
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: I would I would want to return to Dudley Town because we had our some of our best results there, but we got a cease and desist from the locals who just don't want that happening there.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: That's more of a return than a place I haven't been to.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: The most creepiest, scariest, uncomfortable object that you've encountered.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: I stay away from those.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: My partner, I had a partner who used to do the tours with me.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: It was my best friend Danny, and uh he passed since.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: But he went to the Warren's Museum and he walked down the basement, and uh Edwarren was showing them around, and there was that Annabelle doll right under lock and key.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: And uh just when Danny was told, don't go near it, don't touch it, don't even look at it, a phone call came upstairs and Edwarren left to get the phone call, leaving Danny alone in front of this haunted doll.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: At which point the glass opened by itself.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: And Danny ran upstairs and ran out of it.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: So I don't even, I don't really want to touch items.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: I don't want to look at them.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: When he told me that story before I was even in the paranormal world, I'm thinking, you know, if something is haunted uh by by contact and it's a haunted item, it's something I don't want to touch.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, I've seen I've seen all the conjurings, and I can't even imagine going near the house, much less in that room.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, most overrated haunted location in the state.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Uh I I couldn't answer that.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: And I I think you might have, well, I think you did first already answer this, but I was gonna ask you, have you ever refused to return somewhere?
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: No, no, and I would never refuse to return somewhere.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: If anything, if we get a lot of results, I would gonna go back there, maybe on our own, just to see if the everything was resolved or if something needed to cross over again.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Um, but there's been places that we've gone to two or three times.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: And there is a place I'd like to go to that I haven't gone to actually, now that we mentioned it, is the Der Derby uh uh uh Sterling Opera House.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: And we're close and we've been promised, and I've gone to other opera houses, but that's one that has a great history, and we other people have investigated, we haven't had an opportunity to.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: So that is and last lightning round question here.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Is there one particular paranormal myth that you would like to debunk?
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Yes, that something is gonna go home with you.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: They're gonna go, you're gonna go on investigation, it's gonna attach to you, and you're gonna go home and need to be cleansed.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: What are the odds of that?
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: They're gonna they're gonna pick you out of a crowd.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: And why would it attach and leave this haunted place that it's been in for a century?
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: And on and on and on.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: People say, Yeah, well, aren't I afraid of the demonic?
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Aren't I afraid of you know something being evil?
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: And my answer to that, because I get that asked a lot, and it's not lightning round, but I really want to that's okay.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: I really want to answer it.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: If we go to a concert and there's 5,000 people there, how many people are evil?
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: If we go to uh, I don't know what, if we're at an airport and there's a hundred thousand people going through that airport that week, how many are evil?
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: One well, I think the same odds in the uh in the other world are the same as there are here.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: There's one out of a million people who want to do evil, who want to do damage, who want to, you know, uh hurt an animal or hurt a human.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: I think that same ratio applies.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: And what's the odds of that happening?
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: I just I think those are easy odds to work with.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: So the paranormal convention that's coming up.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: What happens?
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Who's there?
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: If someone's remotely interested or really interested and didn't know about it, what why why would someone come and what do they get out of it?
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: It's www.paracon with twoens.org.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: It's the sixth annual Connecticut Paranormal Convention with vendors selling, displaying, sharing.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: It's psychics who are reading, readers, you know, giving people uh actual readings on the event.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: But the special guests are what do it for me.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: You know, we have panels of authors, of experts, special people who specialize in every possible field of the paranormal.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: And then to make it even more mass interest, we bring in horror actors, you know.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: Last year we had Eddie Munster from Patrick from when we were growing up, the Munsters.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, you're too young, but you might have heard of it.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: And uh, but but this year we've got two Jasons from Friday the 13th, the original Jason Voorhees actor Ari Ari Lehman is gonna be there, and the most recent guy who played Jason, James Stokes, is gonna be there.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: So, among 30 other paranormal guests who are well known in the paranormal field, we always bring in some mainstream horror guests too, and they sign autographs and they take pictures with the folks and they do the meet and greets.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: So the convention, it's just pure fun.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's it sounds like a combination of fun, entertainment, but also information.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: Educational information.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: It's at the Clarion Inn Hotel in North Haven, it's not a far ride from anywhere.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Um, come visit, you'll have a great time from uh noon till 5 p.m.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: on Saturday, July 11th.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: Okay, and just a couple of two last questions, and then I'll give you a chance to do your URL, etc.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: But if I gave you just one evening to convince a complete skeptic uh that something truly exists out there, it may not be ghosts, but there's something out there unexplained.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Where would you take that person?
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: I would just sit them down anywhere and tell them of all the stories that happened.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Because if I took them to a place, the odds are that if that one person went to that place, get no results.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Nothing.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Sometimes we do a Friday and a Saturday, and it's off the charts one of the nights and not in the other nights.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: So much of it depends on the intent and the brain waves of the people going.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: And if I'm bringing one person who's a skeptic who thinks this is, you know, uh, no way is this possibly true.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: And I bring them to a place, the likelihood is there would be no results.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: And actually, I just want to ask you one more question, which I hadn't planned on, but I just want to ask.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: Um, when you say, and we got results, yes, what does that mean?
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Like what's a result?
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: Sure, sure.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: The the paranormal and partner of mine, uh, you know, we do all the the meters, you know, there's there's voice meters where you're hearing a lot of white noise.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: Then it picks up frequencies, and the frequencies, and I'll give you one incredible example.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: We were in a home that was uh in Bristol, and we were on the third floor, and that was the nursery, but it wasn't just a nursery, I think they locked the kids up there for days.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: And uh recently, you mean like oh and in the past, oh okay.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, years and years ago, and the owners you know said they would always hear stuff up upstairs in the attic, and we went there and we had no results in the basement, nothing in the main floor, second floor.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: We went up to the attic and we used the meters and right the first thing with that with that voice meter, the first thing Thomas with the most uh yearning for help voice.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Thomas is the name of my partner.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: And that was the first voice that came out of the meter.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And uh, I forgot what your question, but I think I answered it.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: I know you did.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: I was asking when you say results, what is that?
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: What's a result?
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: That's an example of getting results, of going with a group and them thinking nothing's gonna ever happen.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: We're going for nothing, and then the first thing uh that happens on a certain floor or in a certain room is the is a voice being you know coming out and a name being called.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: Charles, a delight.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: I really, really appreciate the time.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Best of luck with all that you're doing, and thanks for taking kind of a scary topic and making it oddly enough not so scary.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Thank you for that.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: That's that's one of my goals is to not just uh be informative and bring people to these spooky places, but to make sure they have a good time.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: The bottom line for me is everyone walking away, being happy, and saying thank you for this.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: And uh we've been very successful that way.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Uh thank you so much, Charles.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: Appreciate it.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
