Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Man, we've got some games to play tonight, opening a
- 0:03Speaker 1: full weekend of college football Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
- 0:08Speaker 1: College football actions, good games every day. Not great games
- 0:13Speaker 1: in some windows, but good games every day. And we've
- 0:16Speaker 1: got a good one tonight. Colorado and Georgia Tech, 8 Eastern,
- 0:19Speaker 1: 7 Central on ESPN. We'll jump into a hard rock
- 0:24Speaker 1: bets pick on that one coming up here in a moment.
- 0:27Speaker 1: And UAB Illinois tonight may be interesting enough, even though
- 0:30Speaker 1: the point spread is huge. 9 Eastern, 8 Central on
- 0:33Speaker 1: the Big Ten Network. By the way, most expensive ticket
- 0:38Speaker 1: this weekend. It's not LSU Clemson?
- 0:42Speaker 2: That's third. Third?
- 0:43Speaker 3: Yep.
- 0:44Speaker 2: That's shocking. I think Indiana.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Notre Dame, Wisconsin. Notre Dame, Wisconsin is number one, at
- 0:50Speaker 1: least from the service I saw. This is get in price.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So if I'm a Notre Dame fan, a game at
- 0:55Speaker 1: Lambeau Field.
- 0:56Speaker 2: It's only the fourth college game ever at Lambeau.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And I get to see my team play at Lambeau.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It's a cool venue. And even as bad as Wisconsin
- 1:03Speaker 1: has been, their fans will turn out to Lambeau, I
- 1:05Speaker 1: would imagine. You probably got a lot of Packers fans
- 1:08Speaker 1: that think it's cool to watch their college team play
- 1:10Speaker 1: at their pro team's stadiums.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I think I know number two. I bet you don't.
- 1:15Speaker 2: UCLA at Cal. It is not.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Cal?
- 1:18Speaker 2: Well, I mean, Cal sold out. Did you not know that?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Cal sold out. Cal is sold out. They are so
- 1:23Speaker 2: pumped about this game. At least that's what I heard.
- 1:25Speaker 1: We're going to play when people are bemoaning the state
- 1:28Speaker 1: of college football. We are going to play back-to-back weekends
- 1:31Speaker 1: where Virginia has sold a game out and Cal has
- 1:33Speaker 1: sold a game out. Is that what you're telling me?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Let's go. So maybe college football is not dead, boys.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And nobody went to a USC game. I mean, where
- 1:40Speaker 2: are we? The world is upside down. Where are we? Well,
- 1:42Speaker 2: I don't, you know, yesterday. You're not going to guess it,
- 1:45Speaker 2: by the way.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You keep going. It's in between Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Lambeau,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and Clemson, LSU. Now, if you've never been to Baton Rouge,
- 1:52Speaker 1: it's a huge stadium.
- 1:53Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:54Speaker 1: That's 100, 100, 2,000 people. And by the way, prices
- 1:56Speaker 1: aren't outrageous. Get in price at Notre Dame and Wisconsin's $ 185.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Is it Florida, Florida Atlantic? No, no. I'm just looking
- 2:04Speaker 2: for a new coach. More surprising. It's tonight, UAB at Illinois. No,
- 2:10Speaker 2: it's not. The second most expensive get-in price in college football.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I don't believe it. Do you? I think you could
- 2:17Speaker 2: go and pick one up off the ground.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I do.
- 2:21Speaker 2: It's the new scoreboard. They're fired up for that new scoreboard.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Largest scoreboard in college football now. They're fired up for it.
- 2:27Speaker 2: It's in Champaign, Illinois.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I think the get-in in Baton Rouge last I saw
- 2:32Speaker 1: was 165.
- 2:34Speaker 2: To get in.
- 2:34Speaker 1: 185 in Lambeau and somewhere between those two to get
- 2:38Speaker 1: in at UAB Illinois.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Do I say Illinois right?
- 2:42Speaker 3: Illinois.
- 2:43Speaker 1: You just said don't say the S on the end.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I think that's where most people screw Illinois up.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I didn't say the S.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I know.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Does anybody say Illinois?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Oh, I've heard people say Illinois. But I'm from Alabaster, Alabama,
- 2:52Speaker 1: public school. Didn't go to an Ivy League school. I
- 2:54Speaker 1: went to the Ivy League at the South, Montevallo, but
- 2:56Speaker 1: I didn't go to a real Ivy League school.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Illinois is the way I say it.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Illinois?
- 3:00Speaker 2: No, Illinois is right. Unless I say it wrong. Well,
- 3:02Speaker 2: you're saying Illinois. I say Illinois.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Illinois.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Illinois?
- 3:04Speaker 1: It doesn't have an E on the front.
- 3:05Speaker 2: It's got an I. I think if you're from Illinois,
- 3:07Speaker 2: you say Illinois, right? Illinois.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Illinois.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Illinois, okay. That shocks me, though. Now do Norfolk. I
- 3:13Speaker 2: thought about this.
- 3:14Speaker 1: When I knew you were going to do that, Dunaway
- 3:16Speaker 1: was the first person that ever told me, Brownie, they
- 3:18Speaker 1: don't say Norfolk, Virginia.
- 3:21Speaker 2: It's Norfolk.
- 3:21Speaker 1: They say it very, very.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Norfolk. That's the way they say it, Tyler.
- 3:26Speaker 3: It's Norfolk, Virginia.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Oh, no, I remember when Rockstar went on tour there.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Oh, that's right.
- 3:31Speaker 4: That was a bit for a little bit.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. It's Norfolk, Virginia. Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Very uncomfortably, they very uncomfortably heavily pronounced the end of it, too.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So I, you know, we've got an early dinner tonight.
- 3:43Speaker 2: But if that... I'm not invited, so I didn't know that.
- 3:46Speaker 3: We do?
- 3:46Speaker 2: No, no, no. We don't. When you say we... When
- 3:48Speaker 2: you said we, okay. We have an early dinner with
- 3:51Speaker 2: a couple tonight. We're supposed to go at 6 o'clock.
- 3:53Speaker 2: He's a big sports gambler and... Anyway, our plans have
- 3:57Speaker 2: been messed up the last couple of times we've planned this,
- 3:59Speaker 2: so there is a chance. It's kind of yellow light
- 4:01Speaker 2: right now.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Right.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And I'm thinking about, I don't know what to do
- 4:03Speaker 2: with Bully and Chili, but I'm thinking about going over
- 4:05Speaker 2: to Bobby Dodd tonight if the dinner falls through. No,
- 4:08Speaker 2: you're not. I swear I am. No, you're not. You
- 4:10Speaker 2: are not going to go to Bobby Dodd tonight. I
- 4:12Speaker 2: got a driver. Maddie said she would drive over.
- 4:15Speaker 1: You're going to drive.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Well, what's the get in in Colorado, Georgia Tech? What
- 4:19Speaker 2: are the best games of the weekend? It's got to
- 4:20Speaker 2: be nothing. I mean, it's probably 100 bucks each. That's
- 4:22Speaker 2: on the ground again. On the ground ticket. I've just
- 4:24Speaker 2: never been to a game there. It looks like such
- 4:26Speaker 2: an intimate place. And we found there is a sandwich
- 4:28Speaker 2: shop we absolutely love. Found it. a couple of years
- 4:31Speaker 2: ago in Atlanta, and it's right there on the Georgia
- 4:33Speaker 2: Tech campus.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Let me tell you this. Wouldn't you have to make
- 4:35Speaker 1: a decision on that by the end of our show
- 4:37Speaker 1: today at 1 o'clock Central?
- 4:38Speaker 2: That's a 6 Central kick, right? Yeah, probably.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Is that a 6 Central kick?
- 4:41Speaker 4: If you're going that way, you've got to hit up
- 4:43Speaker 4: the varsity, though.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I don't think Lance likes the varsity.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Varsity's okay.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I like the varsity. I mean, I appreciate you checking
- 4:49Speaker 2: in in 1990.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Here comes Forrester. He hates the varsity.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Scott is a varsity hater, and I.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Don't understand it. By the way, if Scott is one
- 4:57Speaker 2: of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, but if he
- 4:58Speaker 2: doesn't like something, boy, he is. It's so overrated.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Scott, Scott.
- 5:03Speaker 2: It's McDonald's.
- 5:04Speaker 1: If Joe Tessitore were cooking hot dogs at the varsity,
- 5:06Speaker 1: how would you feel about it?
- 5:08Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 5:09Speaker 4: He offered you a frozen orange.
- 5:12Speaker 2: No matter what, it would be the most incredible thing
- 5:14Speaker 2: he'd ever done.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It is game day at the Varsity, and nothing says
- 5:17Speaker 1: the Varsity like these hot dogs right here. Jesse, look
- 5:20Speaker 1: at these fries.
- 5:22Speaker 2: This is a Varsity on a Saturday. Get your Saturday
- 5:26Speaker 2: started right at the Varsity. Have you all ever been
- 5:28Speaker 2: to a game there, though?
- 5:29Speaker 3: No.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I've always wanted to go. Have you been to a
- 5:31Speaker 2: game there? I have, but. Before the remodel.
- 5:34Speaker 1: You went to an old– did you go to Auburn
- 5:36Speaker 1: like a Bo Jackson game there? Old Bobby Dodd, you know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: being the Auburn fan that I am. Yeah, big Auburn fan.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I went to Auburn, Georgia Tech, Bo Jackson.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah. How'd he play? He played his– he.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Played his– Oh, he was terrific. That's a legendary game,
- 5:49Speaker 1: isn't it?
- 5:49Speaker 2: They had to have him to win that game. I
- 5:51Speaker 2: think this is going to be a really good game tonight,
- 5:53Speaker 2: not to give too much away on– Let's.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Do our early lane before we get into all the
- 5:58Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin– Vanity Fair, all that stuff, and Dabo responding
- 6:03Speaker 1: to the Vanity Fair.
- 6:03Speaker 2: By the way, $ 74. Get in. 74. And Colorado Georgia Tech.
- 6:08Speaker 6: Yep.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And a get in there is not bad.
- 6:10Speaker 2: That's a pretty intimate. I'm going to try to get
- 6:11Speaker 2: between the 30s if I go. I'll probably pay $ 100
- 6:13Speaker 2: a stick.
- 6:14Speaker 1: He was going to pay $ 100. 74 get in. He
- 6:17Speaker 1: could feed a family of 10 at the varsity with
- 6:19Speaker 1: the leftover money there.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I don't know about that. I bet the varsity's even
- 6:23Speaker 2: got an expensive.
- 6:24Speaker 1: The show brought to you by our great partners at
- 6:26Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet. You may know the Hard Rock name,
- 6:29Speaker 1: but do you know about Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook app?
- 6:32Speaker 1: It's Hard Rock Bet. It's Florida's only legal sportsbook. and
- 6:35Speaker 1: is therefore the most trustworthy option in the market. Hard
- 6:38Speaker 1: Rock Bet is also available in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois,
- 6:42Speaker 1: where UAB plays tonight, Indiana, Michigan, Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Football's back, and so is the great fun at Hard
- 6:51Speaker 1: Rock Bet. They've got a welcome offer right now. Bet $ 5,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you get a $ 100 in bonus bets. That's available to
- 6:57Speaker 1: all customers, not just new customers. And if you're in Florida,
- 7:00Speaker 1: make sure you take advantage before the NFL season kicks
- 7:02Speaker 1: off of the NFL Survivor Contest. Pick one team to
- 7:05Speaker 1: win each week. Last standing survivors share the $ 2 million prize.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Best place to get all the information and to sign
- 7:12Speaker 1: up right now is go to hardrock.bets backslash clay. That's hardrock.bet.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Backslash Clay. All right.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Give me a lean on Colorado Georgia Tech tonight. Last
- 7:24Speaker 1: I saw, six and a half Georgia Tech.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Well, look, as bad as the rush defense was last year,
- 7:29Speaker 2: giving up 320 yards to the rambling wreck, they only
- 7:32Speaker 2: lost the game by seven. Now you bring in Chris Marv,
- 7:35Speaker 2: new defensive coordinator. It's going to be all about slowing
- 7:38Speaker 2: down Georgia Tech on the ground. Alberto Mendoza starting his
- 7:41Speaker 2: first game. There is a pressure on Georgia Tech coming
- 7:44Speaker 2: off their first nine-win season since 2016. I think there's improvement.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I think Julian Lewis is going to be better than
- 7:51Speaker 2: Caden Salter was. You bring in Scudero, one of the
- 7:54Speaker 2: best wide receivers in the portal. The defense can't be
- 7:57Speaker 2: any worse. I'm catching six and a half here. Again,
- 8:00Speaker 2: not to give away free play here, but I like
- 8:02Speaker 2: Colorado to keep it inside the number.
- 8:03Speaker 1: You already dressed to go to the game, by the way.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You got Colorado gold and black on.
- 8:06Speaker 2: That's right.
- 8:07Speaker 1: It works for either team. It actually does.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I didn't even think about that.
- 8:11Speaker 1: You could be a rambling wreck.
- 8:12Speaker 2: You probably could get on the sidelines in that outfit. Brownie,
- 8:15Speaker 2: you got a feel tonight on this game?
- 8:17Speaker 1: This has been a tough game because when the point spread,
- 8:20Speaker 1: when we started talking about the point spread for this game,
- 8:23Speaker 1: I think if you had asked me without knowing the
- 8:24Speaker 1: point spread, all right, Colorado is coming to Georgia Tech, Brownie,
- 8:28Speaker 1: what's the point spread? I would have said 10.5, 11.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I think Georgia Tech's a much better team playing at home. Brinkey,
- 8:34Speaker 1: it feels like these programs are going in two different
- 8:35Speaker 1: directions under Brinkey and Deion Sanders right now. When that
- 8:38Speaker 1: point spread comes at 6, 6.5, I'm like, what have
- 8:41Speaker 1: I missed here, right? What does Vegas see that I
- 8:43Speaker 1: don't see in this game? So that, you know, if
- 8:46Speaker 1: you look at it from that perspective, if you're one
- 8:48Speaker 1: of those that looks at it from that perspective, Colorado
- 8:50Speaker 1: is going to keep this game closer than you would think.
- 8:53Speaker 1: If I step back and look at it from a distance,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I'm like, how do they do that, though? You folks
- 8:57Speaker 1: that are on Sporting State joining us for the first time,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you will learn I'm really good at this. Georgia Tech's
- 9:02Speaker 1: the better football team. Six and a half points. Georgia
- 9:05Speaker 1: Tech easily.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Seems easy. Seems too easy, Jim.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Justice Haynes running the football for Georgia Tech. Rebuilt Colorado
- 9:12Speaker 1: offensive line. Brent Key wins in the trenches. It seems
- 9:16Speaker 1: like Vegas is giving money away.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Boy, they are replacing a ton, Georgia Tech is. I mean,
- 9:21Speaker 2: the one thing you know is the offensive line is intact,
- 9:24Speaker 2: and Brent Key is always going to have that unit. Very,
- 9:27Speaker 2: very solid. But I think this is going to be
- 9:30Speaker 2: a rough year for the Redneck Gangster.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I got to tell you, I just wonder about
- 9:35Speaker 1: Alberto Mendoza. Is he anything close to Fernando?
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I mean anybody starting a new quarterback first time starter
- 9:42Speaker 1: like clemson and georgia tech you don't know what you
- 9:44Speaker 1: got alabama without fernando having the year he had last
- 9:47Speaker 1: year alberto mendoza we'd be like who is this kid
- 9:49Speaker 1: you know but he just happens to be the brother
- 9:51Speaker 1: of the heisman trophy winner first overall draft pick so
- 9:54Speaker 1: your expectation for him is that he's a really good
- 9:56Speaker 1: quarterback like his brother i don't know how close that's
- 9:58Speaker 1: going to be.
- 9:59Speaker 2: He got to see him a lot last year. He
- 10:00Speaker 2: played in eight games.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Hardrock.bet backslash clay. Hardrock.bet backslash clay. A lot of mop-up
- 10:07Speaker 1: duty last year for Indiana. Vanity Fair story for the
- 10:10Speaker 1: last 24 hours off of John Talti's new book, Lane
- 10:13Speaker 1: Being Lane, has started up. Some of these things we
- 10:17Speaker 1: have heard covering Lane Kiffin in Tuscaloosa. So some of
- 10:21Speaker 1: this didn't surprise us. Some of the quotes did surprise us.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I'll just read a couple out and you guys react.
- 10:27Speaker 1: From Vanity Fair, and it's part of the Talti book,
- 10:30Speaker 1: Lane Being Lane. You've got to keep Lane away from
- 10:34Speaker 1: the girls that are in college, Nick Saban said, according
- 10:37Speaker 1: to one former coach. Just keep him away from the
- 10:40Speaker 1: sorority girls. Make sure they've graduated college are working at
- 10:47Speaker 1: a job. That quote there, your first.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Thoughts on that? Okay, so first of all, this is
- 10:51Speaker 2: not surprising to any of us. I think for the
- 10:53Speaker 2: majority of our listeners, none of this is surprising. I
- 10:56Speaker 2: find it hard to believe that Saban spoke in those words.
- 11:00Speaker 2: You know, what I always heard, and again, this is secondhand,
- 11:02Speaker 2: so look, and again, we're just trying to entertain you guys,
- 11:05Speaker 2: but I had always heard that Terry Saban was like, hey,
- 11:09Speaker 2: this guy has got to calm down. Now, whether or
- 11:11Speaker 2: not that was true or not, I don't know. I'm
- 11:14Speaker 2: going to assume Nick Saban is going to be extremely
- 11:16Speaker 2: pissed off about this. Yeah, we'll see if Nick Saban responds.
- 11:19Speaker 2: We've got Dabo responding here in just a second in
- 11:21Speaker 2: this opening segment. Do you guys believe that Saban said that?
- 11:25Speaker 3: Um.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I don't know if he said it in exactly those words.
- 11:29Speaker 1: That's it.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I think there was a roundabout way for him to
- 11:33Speaker 2: say it.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And I agree with Lance, either on game day this
- 11:36Speaker 1: Saturday or if Saban does a hit with McAfee or
- 11:39Speaker 1: something like that prior to game day Saturday, I believe
- 11:42Speaker 1: if he's asked to address this, he will distance himself
- 11:45Speaker 1: from those comments, if not outright deny that he ever
- 11:47Speaker 1: said anything like that. Saban said, according to one former coach,
- 11:53Speaker 1: is always.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Now all of a sudden it's hearsay, right?
- 11:56Speaker 3: That's right.
- 11:57Speaker 1: We're going legal terms. And I can hear Saban. I
- 12:00Speaker 1: can hear him saying it. I don't know who this
- 12:03Speaker 1: coach is, but this coach needs to talk to me, Reese.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Can you just see him saying that on the game
- 12:09Speaker 1: day desk? Now do I believe at any point that
- 12:14Speaker 1: Nick Saban had to reel in Lane Kiffin's outside the
- 12:20Speaker 1: football building behavior?
- 12:22Speaker 2: There is no doubt.
- 12:23Speaker 1: But Blaine was probably not the only coach on one.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And they dropped the problem. Lane was not the only
- 12:27Speaker 1: coach Nick Saban.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Had to do that.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but for Saban to say, hey, these girls need
- 12:30Speaker 2: to be graduated. Yeah, that's where it gets tricky.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I mean, come on.
- 12:33Speaker 2: That's where it gets tricky. Hey, look, if they're under 21,
- 12:37Speaker 2: we've got a problem. But as long as they're out
- 12:38Speaker 2: in the workforce and they're getting a W-2, we're good
- 12:41Speaker 2: to go. That's right.
- 12:42Speaker 1: She's a graduate student. Oh, you're good, Lane.
- 12:45Speaker 4: She's working on her thesis. Go for it.
- 12:47Speaker 1: This one got a lot of headlines. And his free co-owner,
- 12:50Speaker 1: Derek Purdy, would call me and say, you're by Lane's back–
- 12:55Speaker 1: He's in here asking where the hotties are, says Josh Booty.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Can you introduce me to hotties? So that's a direct
- 13:03Speaker 1: quote from Josh Booty. Like, Talty's book has directly quoted
- 13:06Speaker 1: Josh Booty saying that.
- 13:07Speaker 4: What a source for that.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I just can't.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Of all the quarterbacks. I just can't see Lane Kiffin
- 13:12Speaker 1: saying the phrase, Can you introduce me to hotties?
- 13:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's very, very awkward. He is an
- 13:18Speaker 2: awkward guy, but I think there would be, hey, look, man,
- 13:20Speaker 2: you got some hot ass running around here. I could
- 13:22Speaker 2: see something like that.
- 13:23Speaker 1: That would be like my old ass walking in and saying, hey,
- 13:27Speaker 1: what's up, homie?
- 13:27Speaker 2: Where are the hotties? So Derek and I, we go
- 13:32Speaker 2: way back. Give me a rumble shot. Over 30 years.
- 13:35Speaker 2: We were fraternity brothers. I met Derek in the fall
- 13:38Speaker 2: of 1992. So, you know, we have had a relationship
- 13:43Speaker 2: for three decades now.
- 13:44Speaker 1: We all know Derek.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And, you know, he's a great sponsor in his free galettes.
- 13:50Speaker 2: We had communication yesterday going back and forth, and Derek
- 13:53Speaker 2: might or might not join us. It's kind of up
- 13:56Speaker 2: to him. But there are holes in this story. I'll
- 13:59Speaker 2: just put it like that. On social media, Derek did
- 14:01Speaker 2: say he did not say those things. Yes.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And I am like Tyler. Of all the former SEC quarterbacks,
- 14:07Speaker 1: for Josh Booty to be the one that is saying
- 14:09Speaker 1: this is quite remarkable for this story, yes.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 1: But it's another distraction for Lane Kippen. Another part of
- 14:15Speaker 1: the story was, I don't think he.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Cares, though. I think he loves the fact that he's
- 14:19Speaker 2: in Vanity Fair.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm kind of with Lance.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I think he likes it. It makes pictures of you
- 14:24Speaker 2: doing hot yoga with the LSU cheerleaders a little more creepy.
- 14:28Speaker 3: It does.
- 14:28Speaker 2: 100%. If you don't come out and deny some of this.
- 14:31Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Yeah. You know, it's one
- 14:33Speaker 2: thing when He's running around as the offensive coordinator, and
- 14:37Speaker 2: he's never been anonymous because it is Lane Kiffin, but
- 14:40Speaker 2: when you are now the head coach of LSU on
- 14:43Speaker 2: the hills of a story like this, yeah, it's a
- 14:46Speaker 2: different level. And you're 11 years older. Yeah, oh yeah.
- 14:49Speaker 1: That's another decade of age on you, separated from whatever
- 14:52Speaker 1: age you were in 2015 in Tuscaloosa. Yeah, I mean,
- 14:55Speaker 1: there becomes like, I mean, Kiffin's got a daughter in college.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I've got a 23-year-old now, so you start to.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Start to think about this. You know, there's only so
- 15:07Speaker 2: young Kiffin can go now. That's right.
- 15:09Speaker 4: That's right.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know.
- 15:11Speaker 1: He can't be dating Layla's friends. Layla, Witt, Lane, and
- 15:15Speaker 1: somebody can't double date. Yeah, that becomes really, really uncomfortable.
- 15:20Speaker 1: In the story, Talty, in the book Lane Being Lane,
- 15:24Speaker 1: there was an indicator that it was Lane Kiffin that
- 15:28Speaker 1: tipped off Dabo Sweeney on the tampering story with Luke Forelli. Now,
- 15:34Speaker 1: according to the Vanity Fair story, and maybe in the book,
- 15:38Speaker 1: I assume all this is coming excerpts from the Talty book,
- 15:40Speaker 1: Lane being Lane, not released yet, that the whole Dabo
- 15:45Speaker 1: getting mad about Luke Forelli, that Lane tipped off Dabo Sweeney,
- 15:51Speaker 1: and then Dabo caused the big stink. Dabo Sweeney yesterday
- 15:56Speaker 1: on that part of the excerpt of the book about
- 16:00Speaker 1: Lane tipping him off.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Here's Dabo.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Here's what I would say about that and be very
- 16:05Speaker 5: clear on that. Lane Kiffin had nothing to do with–
- 16:09Speaker 5: I mean, zero to do with me turning in the
- 16:13Speaker 5: tampering situation here at Clemson. Zero. You know, Lane, after,
- 16:18Speaker 5: you know, the kid left and all that, he certainly
- 16:20Speaker 5: reached out and, you know, he had some– I think
- 16:23Speaker 5: they've got some back and forth, you know, obviously with
- 16:27Speaker 5: those two schools. And honestly, I had a lot of
- 16:31Speaker 5: coaches reach out And, you know, with a lot of
- 16:34Speaker 5: hearsay and stuff like that, I ain't operating in no hearsay.
- 16:38Speaker 5: I don't care what anybody says. I don't care how
- 16:40Speaker 5: anybody runs their program. They can run their program however
- 16:43Speaker 5: they want to run their program. They can do whatever
- 16:44Speaker 5: they want to do. I ain't into none of that.
- 16:47Speaker 5: I got one issue. If you tamper with my program,
- 16:50Speaker 5: I'm going to turn you in. And it's just that simple.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Lane Kiffin had nothing to do with that.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Zero.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I was turning that in the moment he left. I
- 17:01Speaker 2: haven't seen the article.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Ross just told me about it. But I guess he
- 17:06Speaker 5: was saying that the article basically insinuated that we turned
- 17:09Speaker 5: him in because Lane had nothing to do with it.
- 17:12Speaker 5: I turned him in because I had a kid tampered with,
- 17:15Speaker 5: was in class a week, and then left.
- 17:17Speaker 3: So....
- 17:20Speaker 2: It's all in the NCAA's hands from there.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 2: And nothing's going to happen with that. But that's Dabo yesterday.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Point blank.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Lane did not tip me off on that. I knew
- 17:29Speaker 1: the moment he left, I was turning him in.
- 17:31Speaker 2: There's so many different things coming out. I don't know
- 17:33Speaker 2: what's real and what's not. But did Dabo call Lane
- 17:36Speaker 2: a clown in something? Did I see that? I don't remember. Forrester,
- 17:40Speaker 2: give me Forrester back there. Did you see that in
- 17:43Speaker 2: any of the sound? I do not recall that being
- 17:47Speaker 2: a thing.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I have not seen that yet.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I think we'd heard about yeah i mean trust me
- 17:53Speaker 1: the way this game is going it's only a matter
- 17:55Speaker 1: of time before we have an actual clown there uh
- 17:57Speaker 1: i don't know if it'll be one of the coaches
- 17:58Speaker 1: dressed as one um but later later in the next
- 18:02Speaker 1: round next round part of the show i'll show you
- 18:03Speaker 1: what kind of circus we're gonna have.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I mean this thing goes one of two ways either
- 18:07Speaker 2: lsu loses this game to clemson and it is a
- 18:11Speaker 2: awful loss or could you see if lsu is the
- 18:14Speaker 2: much better team could you see him try to put
- 18:16Speaker 2: up extra touchdowns i think historically that has uh You know,
- 18:20Speaker 2: that's been something Lane enjoys to do. He throws this,
- 18:24Speaker 2: you know, play sheet in the air when he got
- 18:26Speaker 2: an open receiver before the pass is even caught. He
- 18:29Speaker 2: gets your popcorn ready.
- 18:31Speaker 1: That's what I could also see. That one blew up
- 18:33Speaker 1: in space. That one burned him. And why was he,
- 18:34Speaker 1: you know... He's doing an interview on CBS before the game,
- 18:37Speaker 1: and he wants to be this big show, and Alabama
- 18:40Speaker 1: kicked him in the teeth. I don't know that Clemson's
- 18:43Speaker 1: good enough to do that is the problem. That was
- 18:44Speaker 1: a really good Alabama team. There is part of America
- 18:48Speaker 1: that is hoping Clemson by two scores would love to
- 18:51Speaker 1: see it.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I might even have LSU minus the 10 or 10.5
- 18:54Speaker 2: at Lance's Lock coming up on Sunday. Enjoy the loss.
- 18:58Speaker 2: There's some of these losses that I can enjoy. You
- 19:00Speaker 2: guys know how I feel about Dabo, but I would
- 19:02Speaker 2: absolutely love to see this. Is there anything really salacious
- 19:05Speaker 2: about this book as far as college football fans are concerned?
- 19:08Speaker 1: Because I'm telling you, I don't know why I would
- 19:10Speaker 1: read the book now. I mean, all these excerpts, what
- 19:12Speaker 1: else is in there?
- 19:12Speaker 2: But, like, I know there are girls out there. We
- 19:16Speaker 2: could do the witness protection shadow on, and they would
- 19:20Speaker 2: come out. Like, I've heard stories, a ton of stories, and, like,
- 19:24Speaker 2: they just don't even really resonate anymore.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I know names. Like, I've been told names of– Well,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I mean, we knew that his dating apps were being
- 19:34Speaker 1: run by basically a general manager.
- 19:37Speaker 2: He had a... Oh, I know the guy that was
- 19:39Speaker 2: running it.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Yeah, he had a player personnel director for his after
- 19:43Speaker 1: non-football activities.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Who would say, okay, this is Tuesday. We got Tuesday
- 19:48Speaker 2: booked up. We need to have her out by X
- 19:50Speaker 2: and X. When I go to the football building and
- 19:51Speaker 2: we can get Wednesdays in, uh, have ready for dinner
- 19:54Speaker 2: that night. I mean, I had heard when he was
- 19:56Speaker 2: at Tennessee and you know, this is a long time
- 19:58Speaker 2: ago and this is when lane really could get away
- 20:00Speaker 2: with it. I mean, Lane, at that point in 2009,
- 20:03Speaker 2: would have been in his— 39, 38. I think mid-30s. Mid-30s, yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 2: But there were reports, and I heard from very, very
- 20:11Speaker 2: credible people that he would have visitors into the football offices,
- 20:16Speaker 2: and there was kind of a blind spot back door
- 20:19Speaker 2: that those visitors would leave.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Can I?
- 20:21Speaker 2: And I think all that stuff's legitimate.
- 20:22Speaker 1: And I would just like to be fair here, though.
- 20:25Speaker 1: We all know John Talty, who wrote this book.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Really respected.
- 20:28Speaker 1: John is a very respected journalist. Now, I'm not saying
- 20:31Speaker 1: that any of this is true or untrue. I am
- 20:33Speaker 1: just saying, historically, John has been considered a very respected journalist.
- 20:37Speaker 1: When you write books with secondary sourcing, though, you open
- 20:41Speaker 1: the door for people to say, I never said that.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I never told you that lie.
- 20:45Speaker 2: That's why a lot of people in the printed word.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Yep.
- 20:50Speaker 2: The columnists of the world.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Record it all. They have that recorder sitting right there.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Do you mind if we record this? And then they've
- 20:55Speaker 1: got that as they pull their notes off of and
- 20:57Speaker 1: they have that backed up.
- 20:58Speaker 2: What is dangerous, and I don't want to get ahead
- 20:59Speaker 2: of this just in case Derek does come on the
- 21:01Speaker 2: show today, is back to the second sourcing. When you have,
- 21:05Speaker 2: let's just say that Josh Booty was on record with
- 21:07Speaker 2: Talty and he uses Derek's name. Like if I'm Talty,
- 21:11Speaker 2: I'm not comfortable unless I circle back to Derek and
- 21:15Speaker 2: ask him, this is what Josh did. Told me. And
- 21:18Speaker 2: from at least the conversation I have had, that is
- 21:20Speaker 2: not factual.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I've watched enough Law & Order to know that back
- 21:25Speaker 1: in the day, You could get a witness that would
- 21:27Speaker 1: tell you something, and then when you get them on
- 21:29Speaker 1: the stand.
- 21:29Speaker 2: They don't back it up. Yeah, it's all a fun—
- 21:31Speaker 2: You told me. It's a fun story over a bourbon.
- 21:34Speaker 2: That's right.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And then when it ends up in print, you're like,
- 21:37Speaker 1: holy crap, I should never have done that.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but do you think Talti in that situation is, hey, look,
- 21:44Speaker 2: I'm writing a piece right now. I don't know how
- 21:45Speaker 2: that works. I've never done it.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I assume this is not a Lane Kiffin-endorsed book.
- 21:52Speaker 2: No. Because there was also an angle that Lane Kiffin
- 21:56Speaker 2: is consumed with Ole Miss not having success, right? I mean,
- 22:00Speaker 2: how bad does that look? Your stepping stone job to
- 22:02Speaker 2: get you this LSU job. Now you look back and
- 22:05Speaker 2: you're like, I just want to burn every bridge and
- 22:08Speaker 2: I don't want them to be successful at all.
- 22:12Speaker 1: So, so crazy.
- 22:14Speaker 2: And that's the guy some of you wanted at Auburn
- 22:17Speaker 2: and some of you wanted in Tuscaloosa.
- 22:19Speaker 3: I know.
- 22:19Speaker 1: It's a circus. And you may still want him at
- 22:21Speaker 1: Auburn and Tuscaloosa or Gainesville. I think people in.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Gainesville want him. Oh, 100%. I've said you can sling
- 22:27Speaker 2: a dead cat around here and head an illegal bookmaker.
- 22:29Speaker 2: In Birmingham, you probably– we're an earshot away from somebody
- 22:32Speaker 2: that Lane Kiffin's gotten naked with. So there's probably somebody
- 22:35Speaker 2: out there listening right now.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:37Speaker 2: First-hand experience.
- 22:38Speaker 1: We'll see how Lane's football team performs this weekend, if
- 22:41Speaker 1: he needs any enhancement– this weekend on the offensive side
- 22:45Speaker 1: of the football, what Sam Leavitt and the group brings
- 22:48Speaker 1: to the table. When we come back, we'll talk about
- 22:50Speaker 1: Leavitt and that Mendoza leap that is a possibility for
- 22:55Speaker 1: some teams that are out there. That's coming up as
- 22:58Speaker 1: we continue today on the next round presented by Hard
- 23:00Speaker 1: Rock Bets and Sporting State. I mean, Colorado over Georgia
- 23:04Speaker 1: Tech tonight.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Would be the first little upset of what, I mean,
- 23:08Speaker 2: the schedule doesn't have a lot of upsets in week
- 23:11Speaker 2: one possibilities, but Those are always– I mean, so many
- 23:15Speaker 2: big point spreads. You were pointing this out, how many
- 23:17Speaker 2: that were over. Yeah, 40-plus over 21 points right now.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I do think that when you start to look at
- 23:22Speaker 2: 10 and below, I think in today's transfer portal, everything
- 23:27Speaker 2: is on the table. So I do think we're going
- 23:28Speaker 2: to see some upsets. And it's not going to surprise
- 23:30Speaker 2: me at all. We have doubted Deion nonstop. And he
- 23:34Speaker 2: seems to finally be healthy, rejuvenated, bringing in new coordinators
- 23:37Speaker 2: on both sides of the ball. I think Deion likes
- 23:39Speaker 2: this Colorado team. Could they win– Six or seven games
- 23:43Speaker 2: in the Big 12? Possibly. Yeah, which would be a
- 23:45Speaker 2: great year. Yeah, could they be another three or four
- 23:46Speaker 2: win team? Probably. But, you know, I mean, it's going
- 23:50Speaker 2: to be interesting to see how much longer Deion holds
- 23:52Speaker 2: on as Colorado's head coach.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I mean, but the simple matter is when you're bringing
- 23:56Speaker 1: in like LSU brought in 60 something players.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 24:01Speaker 1: Out of the portal?
- 24:02Speaker 2: When you're bringing in 20, 30, 40 guys out of
- 24:05Speaker 2: the portal, you don't know what you have.
- 24:06Speaker 1: You could have greatness. You could have a big flop,
- 24:09Speaker 1: a big pile of nothing. I mean, Charles Huff.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Last week, they go to UNLV. Forrester had a big
- 24:15Speaker 2: expectation for Memphis, but they were supposed to lose that game.
- 24:18Speaker 1: But you know, if I'm Brent Key and I lose
- 24:20Speaker 1: this game tonight, they're playing a legitimate, as much as
- 24:23Speaker 1: we kill out-of-conference schedules, applaud Brent Key and Georgia Tech
- 24:27Speaker 1: for the out-of-conference schedule they're playing. They play Colorado tonight.
- 24:30Speaker 1: They turn around, they get Tennessee at their place.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Georgia at the end.
- 24:34Speaker 1: And then Georgia at the end. I mean, as bad
- 24:36Speaker 1: as out-of-conference schedules have gotten, this is one of the
- 24:38Speaker 1: best in the country. Colorado, Tennessee, and Georgia.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Team totals I like this year was Georgia Tech under
- 24:43Speaker 2: six and a half wins. I think they're a five
- 24:45Speaker 2: or six win team. I ended up drafting them or
- 24:47Speaker 2: Calcutta because I got them in the 10th round. And
- 24:50Speaker 2: I was like, you know, there's a potential Georgia Tech
- 24:52Speaker 2: could surprise like they did last year. But when you
- 24:54Speaker 2: start to look at the landmines, not only Tennessee, but
- 24:58Speaker 2: they've got to go to Virginia Tech. They've got to
- 25:00Speaker 2: go to Pitt. They've got Louisville at home at Clemson,
- 25:03Speaker 2: and you guys mentioned that, George. I mean, they've got
- 25:04Speaker 2: a really, really difficult game. Yeah, it's a tough schedule.
- 25:06Speaker 1: This is a really, really difficult schedule for Rankia.
- 25:08Speaker 2: There's no doubt.
- 25:09Speaker 1: So you start with a loss tonight, but you are
- 25:11Speaker 1: against a big wall. That's why this opening weekend is
- 25:14Speaker 1: so fun. I'm going to stay at the house this weekend.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I'm not going to go to a game. And that's
- 25:18Speaker 1: because I just want to see everybody, even if they're
- 25:20Speaker 1: playing lesser opponents, what they look like on the field. Finally,
- 25:23Speaker 1: after all the talk for the 212 days between the
- 25:26Speaker 1: championship and this– You can finally get to see these
- 25:30Speaker 1: teams on the field, see what they look like. We
- 25:32Speaker 1: got Gene Chizik, SEC Network Analyst, former National Championship winning coach,
- 25:37Speaker 1: who will join us at 11 Eastern, 10 Central, top
- 25:40Speaker 1: of the hour here. Clay Travis in the segment after
- 25:42Speaker 1: that in hour number two. Here on the next round,
- 25:45Speaker 1: which is brought to you by Crockett Coffee, the coffee
- 25:48Speaker 1: that was started by Clay Travis, Buck Sexton, and Buck's brother, Mason.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I always want to say Buck's little brother, Mason. I
- 25:54Speaker 2: don't know if he's little or bigger. I'll find out.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Older brother, but It's named after Davy Crockett. You know
- 25:58Speaker 1: Davy Crockett, the hunter, the patriot, the backwoods legend. King
- 26:01Speaker 1: of the wild frontier. He's on the logo there, surfing crocodiles,

- 26:57Speaker 2: All right.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Sam Levitt's one of these guys. Sam Levitt's one of
- 27:02Speaker 1: these guys. Mensa in Miami's one of these guys. Josh
- 27:07Speaker 1: Hoover at Indiana is one of these guys. Pat Forty
- 27:11Speaker 1: calls it the Mendoza elite.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Who can go to a new school.
- 27:17Speaker 2: And sort of.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Have that Mendoza leap this year to go from what
- 27:20Speaker 1: they were, good quarterback, to greatness, possibly a Heisman Trophy winner.
- 27:25Speaker 1: What's your expectations for those three guys, Josh Hoover, Sam Levitt,
- 27:29Speaker 1: and Darian Mensah at Miami? Are they potential Fernando Mendozas?
- 27:34Speaker 2: I think Mintz has got the best opportunity to do that.
- 27:37Speaker 2: When I look at Sam Leavitt, I mean, a couple
- 27:39Speaker 2: of years ago, when they almost beat Texas in the
- 27:41Speaker 2: first round of the college football playoff, where it goes
- 27:43Speaker 2: to triple overtime, Sam Leavitt made some incredible throws. Skadaboo
- 27:46Speaker 2: was in that backfield. That was a big part of
- 27:49Speaker 2: that offense for Kenny Dillingham. I think Leavitt's a really
- 27:52Speaker 2: good quarterback. I just... Can he be elite like this?
- 27:56Speaker 2: I just saw eliteness from Mendoza when he was playing
- 28:00Speaker 2: at Cal. I don't know if I've seen this from
- 28:02Speaker 2: the other guys. We've talked about Josh Hoover can be
- 28:04Speaker 2: really good in this system. Turns the football over a
- 28:07Speaker 2: little too much. Leavitt is really, really good. I don't
- 28:11Speaker 2: believe he is as good as Lane Kiffin's last two quarterbacks.
- 28:13Speaker 2: We shall see. I think Mensah is the guy that
- 28:16Speaker 2: can really be the difference maker. I want to come
- 28:19Speaker 2: back to what you said about Hoover. I think.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Sam Levitt is in the offseason when Brooks asked us
- 28:27Speaker 1: to rate our quarterbacks. I put Sam Levitt at the top.
- 28:30Speaker 1: A little bit because of Sam Levitt, a lot of
- 28:31Speaker 1: bit because of Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin coaches quarterbacks well.
- 28:35Speaker 1: He always gets good play out of quarterbacks.
- 28:36Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 28:37Speaker 1: I think Levitt brings a skill set that Kiffin can
- 28:40Speaker 1: get a lot out of. So that's why I'm big
- 28:42Speaker 1: on Levitt. On Hoover, I want to ask this question
- 28:45Speaker 1: about Hoover just real quick. You bring up his turnovers
- 28:47Speaker 1: a lot. Understandably, he turned it over a lot. Was
- 28:51Speaker 1: that a product of him playing at TCU where he
- 28:53Speaker 1: probably had to gamble a little bit more because TCU's
- 28:55Speaker 1: behind in a lot of games? He's in Indiana. He's
- 28:57Speaker 1: going to be ahead in a lot of games.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Yeah. And I wonder if that lowers the number a
- 29:01Speaker 2: little bit. Curtis Wart was a really good player at Ohio.
- 29:04Speaker 2: He's a better player at Indiana because he had better coaching,
- 29:06Speaker 2: had better players around him. I think the same is
- 29:09Speaker 2: going to be for Josh Hoover. But I mean, you
- 29:11Speaker 2: can't deny 33 interceptions over the last three years.
- 29:14Speaker 1: That's a lot.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I don't disagree with that at all. I don't know
- 29:16Speaker 2: circumstantial what those look like. I mean, they were a
- 29:19Speaker 2: good team. They won nine games last year. Virtually won
- 29:21Speaker 2: a game.
- 29:21Speaker 1: You're going to throw one again. If there are a
- 29:23Speaker 1: lot of first quarter interceptions, my theory doesn't hold up.
- 29:25Speaker 1: But I mean, if they're trailing in the fourth quarter
- 29:27Speaker 1: and I'm having to throw a lot. I'm going to
- 29:29Speaker 1: have to take some gambles because we're trying to get
- 29:31Speaker 1: back in the game. You're not going to have to
- 29:33Speaker 1: do that a.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Ton at Indiana. Signetti said it himself. He's going to
- 29:36Speaker 2: have a better.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Offensive line, and a better run game than he had
- 29:39Speaker 1: at his previous stop. He was sort of firing back
- 29:41Speaker 1: at Sonny Dykes, who called out the receiver.
- 29:43Speaker 2: He's got the luxury of their first five games, they're
- 29:46Speaker 2: going to be double-digit favorites. North Texas, they're 40. Howard
- 29:49Speaker 2: will be off the board. Western Kentucky, they'll be 40. Northwestern,
- 29:53Speaker 2: at home in Bloomington, they're going to be a 24-28
- 29:56Speaker 2: point favorite. They go to Rutgers, double-digit favorites, and then
- 29:58Speaker 2: they go to Nebraska. So he's got all the way
- 30:01Speaker 2: until mid-October to get ready for this. If he's got.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Five or six interceptions in that stretch, I'll say, yeah,
- 30:07Speaker 1: it's a problem.
- 30:08Speaker 2: But where the problem could become is in one-possession games
- 30:11Speaker 2: when you go to Nebraska, who should be somewhat improved.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Ohio State at Michigan, USC at Washington. Those are really
- 30:18Speaker 2: difficult games this year for Indiana.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I find it very fascinating with these new guys. Austin Simmons,
- 30:27Speaker 1: Byron Brown losing his job at Ole Miss to Missouri
- 30:31Speaker 1: and then coming from USF to Auburn. Could they fall
- 30:35Speaker 1: into the transfer quarterback making a Mendoza-like leap? Pat Forty's
- 30:40Speaker 1: got a list of quarterbacks he writes about. on his
- 30:43Speaker 1: platform there, making the Mendoza lead. But I just, I
- 30:45Speaker 1: can't put Arch and Kevin Jennings and Connor Wegman and
- 30:49Speaker 1: Gunnar Stockton and John Mateer into those categories because they're
- 30:52Speaker 1: second year or more at those locations. So I'm looking
- 30:54Speaker 1: for new faces at new locations. Your expectations for Austin
- 30:58Speaker 1: Simmons and Byron Brown?
- 30:59Speaker 2: You know, Austin Simmons, we thought he was going to
- 31:01Speaker 2: have a great year last year. He plays hurt and
- 31:05Speaker 2: ends up having a really bad year. I mean, he
- 31:07Speaker 2: is a career below 60% completion guy. Now, only 107 attempts.
- 31:13Speaker 2: I think we thought Austin Simmons would be much better because,
- 31:16Speaker 2: to your point, any quarterback under Lane Kiffin is going
- 31:19Speaker 2: to be better. But ultimately, the guy that was identified
- 31:21Speaker 2: was Trinidad Chambliss, and he turned out fantastic. I think
- 31:24Speaker 2: Byron Brown's going to be really, really good. I thought
- 31:27Speaker 2: this about John Mateer. Was it the thumb or was
- 31:30Speaker 2: the stage too big in the SEC? Byron Brown's got
- 31:33Speaker 2: a lot of tools. He's got to refine as far
- 31:35Speaker 2: as accuracy. But as far as being a big-time game
- 31:38Speaker 2: player that is durable, can get you 1,000 yards legitimately
- 31:43Speaker 2: this year on the ground, I think Byron Brown can
- 31:45Speaker 2: make that transition. But is it more John Mateer or
- 31:47Speaker 2: is it more Trinidad Chambliss?
- 31:49Speaker 1: On Austin Simmons, I just looked this up. Drink has
- 31:54Speaker 1: never had a top three quarterback in the SEC in
- 31:56Speaker 1: terms of yards per game passing. It surprised me a
- 31:58Speaker 1: little bit because– But he's a.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Very balanced play call. He's balanced. They're always like– Running
- 32:03Speaker 2: the football.
- 32:03Speaker 1: They're generally always like fourth, fifth, or sixth. And in
- 32:06Speaker 1: case you forgot, he's only really had three starters. He
- 32:08Speaker 1: started at Missouri in 2020. Connor Bazelick was a three-year
- 32:12Speaker 1: starter for him. Brady Cook was a two-year.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Starter for him. Brady Cook was really good.
- 32:15Speaker 1: He was. But still never finished in the top three.
- 32:18Speaker 1: And then Bo Pribula, who now looks like a world
- 32:21Speaker 1: beater in one week at Virginia.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Was actually his lowest-rated quarterback. Pribula was the guy that
- 32:27Speaker 1: he got the least production out of. I don't know
- 32:30Speaker 1: where Austin Simmons falls on that spectrum there, from Connor
- 32:33Speaker 1: Bazelick to Bo Pribula. I hate this for Austin Simmons.
- 32:37Speaker 1: He's probably closer to Pribula than he is Connor Bazelick
- 32:40Speaker 1: or Brady Cook.
- 32:43Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I'd be surprised at that because I think Drinkwits gets
- 32:46Speaker 1: labeled as one of those guys. He gets good quarterback play.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I don't know if the numbers back that up really
- 32:50Speaker 1: for him. Help me do some odds here with our
- 32:54Speaker 1: friends at Hard Rock Bets. I want some player total
- 32:57Speaker 1: combinations and team totals for this weekend.
- 33:00Speaker 2: We were looking for player props, and I talked to
- 33:02Speaker 2: another buddy of mine, and he's got three different platforms,
- 33:04Speaker 2: and he's like, they probably will release the majority of
- 33:08Speaker 2: the player props late Friday night, early Saturday. They usually
- 33:10Speaker 2: do it almost on game days, right?
- 33:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I don't know why they do it that way, but
- 33:14Speaker 1: I'm going to just try to throw some out there
- 33:16Speaker 1: and help me out if we need to adjust it.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Where would you put the over-under total on– Vecina, the
- 33:23Speaker 1: new quarterback at Clemson, passing yards against LSU.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I would put it at, because the interesting thing is,
- 33:29Speaker 2: if LSU gets up early, then they're throwing the football
- 33:31Speaker 2: a lot. They've got really good receivers. You heard Eric
- 33:33Speaker 2: McLean talking about this, led by Bryant Wesco yesterday, that
- 33:37Speaker 2: he would put up their receiver room with anybody in
- 33:39Speaker 2: college football. We're going to see, because when Clemson was elite,
- 33:43Speaker 2: not only did they have elite quarterback play, they had
- 33:45Speaker 2: elite wide receivers. Set a number for me. I would
- 33:48Speaker 2: set that number at 267 and a half.
- 33:52Speaker 1: That's a lot higher than I was going to set
- 33:53Speaker 1: the number. I thought you were going to say like 217. Boy,
- 33:56Speaker 1: if he throws for 267 at Tiger Stadium. I'd probably
- 33:59Speaker 1: take the under in that. I think I will.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Well, I think the number is going to be set
- 34:03Speaker 2: lower than that. I'm just saying if they're playing for
- 34:05Speaker 2: behind at all with those receivers. Okay, set the number
- 34:08Speaker 2: for me and then let's go over under. Okay, the
- 34:10Speaker 2: realistic number 241 and a half.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Okay, I'll take over. And I think Clemson's going to
- 34:15Speaker 1: win the game. So, you know, I'm being consistent there. See,
- 34:19Speaker 1: this is where I mess up on these kind of
- 34:20Speaker 1: total bets because I don't factor in, okay, I'm down
- 34:23Speaker 1: two touchdowns and I've got to pass to get back in.
- 34:26Speaker 2: I think I would take under that. Okay, but Clemson
- 34:29Speaker 2: doesn't want to play, obviously, from behind.
- 34:31Speaker 3: No.
- 34:31Speaker 2: They would love to grind this out, much like last year,
- 34:34Speaker 2: the 17-10– LSU win, Clemson would love to reverse and
- 34:38Speaker 2: return the favor. Maybe even shorten the game. Yeah, and
- 34:41Speaker 2: shorten the game and win a low-scoring game. Get in,
- 34:43Speaker 2: get out, get on with your ACC life.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Where would you put the LSU scoring team total in
- 34:49Speaker 1: that big game?
- 34:52Speaker 2: I would put that at... Is 30.5 a fair number?
- 34:56Speaker 1: Not too high?
- 34:56Speaker 2: No, 30.5 is dead on.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Okay. Yeah. 30.5 and....
- 35:05Speaker 1: I think LSU wins the game. I think I would
- 35:08Speaker 1: take over that. I'll go under 30 and a half.
- 35:11Speaker 1: If I've got Clemson winning the game, I can't get
- 35:13Speaker 1: LSU in the 30s. It's going to be hard for
- 35:15Speaker 1: Clemson to go win a track meet at Tiger Stadium.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Clemson's defense is going to be... I'll tell you,
- 35:20Speaker 2: if LSU lays 30 plus on Clemson week one with
- 35:22Speaker 2: all the unknowns and everything coming together, watch out for
- 35:26Speaker 2: LSU this year. So I would play under.
- 35:29Speaker 1: And again, all fun stuff that you can do at
- 35:31Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bets. I'll tell you how to get that
- 35:33Speaker 1: in a second, but Okay, in that great UCLA Cal game,
- 35:38Speaker 1: Nico Amalieva or JKS? I won't even try to nail
- 35:44Speaker 1: his name right here on the fly. Tom Hart said
- 35:46Speaker 1: he's going to do it, though. He's not going to
- 35:47Speaker 1: go with the lazy JKS.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Tom Hart's on the call. Nico or JKS? Who has
- 35:52Speaker 2: more total yards in this game? I will definitely go
- 35:55Speaker 2: Cal quarterback. I'll go JKS.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I'm with you on that one. I don't know what
- 35:59Speaker 1: the number would be, but I think he will outperform Nico.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I think I would go Nico on this. Would you now?
- 36:04Speaker 1: So you're a Bob Chesney believer. You think he's going
- 36:06Speaker 1: to unlock Nico, something Hypo couldn't do? And I just
- 36:08Speaker 1: think Nico, it's almost contract time for Nico.
- 36:11Speaker 2: I think this is a.
- 36:13Speaker 2: And this is more of the JKS is more of,
- 36:19Speaker 2: he's not a guy that's going to run the football.
- 36:20Speaker 2: So it's all about throwing the football for him. But
- 36:23Speaker 2: there is almost zero chance if he plays beyond what
- 36:26Speaker 2: he did last year that Cal can retain him. Like,
- 36:29Speaker 2: where's his destination? I mean, really good that they retained
- 36:32Speaker 2: him for this year. I'm shocked, yeah. Now, he is
- 36:34Speaker 2: from Hawaii, so he's a West Coast guy. But, you know,
- 36:37Speaker 2: pick your program over there could probably pry him loose.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Do you remember offhand the game Jerry Neuheisel took over?
- 36:44Speaker 1: Was it against Penn State? I think it was, right?
- 36:47Speaker 1: They won 42-37. Because I'm just looking, how did Nico's
- 36:49Speaker 1: numbers improve? after Deshaun Foster, when Jerry Neuheisel took over
- 36:54Speaker 1: as the interim head coach. They didn't really improve that much.
- 36:57Speaker 1: I thought I was going to look at it and like, oh,
- 36:59Speaker 1: he was a different quarterback. And really his yards per
- 37:02Speaker 1: game actually went down a little bit. He quit turning
- 37:05Speaker 1: the ball over initially, but then started turning it over again.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Two more. In the Baylor-Auburn game, Byron Brown total yards
- 37:13Speaker 1: passing and rushing. Where would you put that?
- 37:16Speaker 2: Oh, I would put that at total passing and rushing.
- 37:21Speaker 2: I will go three, 10 and a half, three, 10
- 37:26Speaker 2: and a half.
- 37:28Speaker 1: That's for Byron Brown.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I mean, that's a lot. So to put it in perspective,
- 37:32Speaker 2: as good as Georgia tech was putting up the yards
- 37:35Speaker 2: last year against Colorado, Haynes King had 299 total yards
- 37:38Speaker 2: in that game.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:39Speaker 2: But I, I don't think this Baylor defense is going
- 37:43Speaker 2: to be very good. I mean, Mosley said it was
- 37:45Speaker 2: going to be better than it was last year. It's
- 37:47Speaker 2: got to be. But Jackson Armour was running up and
- 37:51Speaker 2: down the field on them last year. Yeah. Byron Brown's
- 37:53Speaker 2: a better quarterback. Yeah.
- 37:54Speaker 1: I mean, you are inclined to say, oh, Dave Aranda's
- 37:57Speaker 1: the head coach. He'll have that defense, you know, in
- 38:00Speaker 1: great shape. Well, they were 12th in the Big 12
- 38:01Speaker 1: last year in total defense. So it was not a
- 38:04Speaker 1: very good defense last year.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I'd go 240 passing, 70 rushing. That's a winnable number,
- 38:10Speaker 2: I believe.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Because that gets me to the other one. Jeremiah Cobb,
- 38:13Speaker 2: the least talked about. Yep.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Talented player in the SEC that has not been talked.
- 38:19Speaker 2: About all summer long. Because he didn't come from South Florida.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Maybe the only former Auburn player that produces on this
- 38:25Speaker 2: offense Saturday. Yeah, I think if you are Alex Golish,
- 38:28Speaker 2: you're going to use Bryson Washington right there with Cobb.
- 38:32Speaker 2: So it's going to be kind of a two-headed monster attack.
- 38:34Speaker 2: So I think both of their carries are going to
- 38:36Speaker 2: be a little bit limited based on that.
- 38:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I could see Cobb getting close to 100 or over
- 38:42Speaker 2: 100 yards. I mean, I could see it, but I
- 38:46Speaker 2: just wonder how many carries Washington is going to get.
- 38:48Speaker 2: You know, one of the things when they were recruiting
- 38:50Speaker 2: him away from Baylor in the portal, hey, look, man,
- 38:53Speaker 2: you get to see your team next year. I'm not
- 38:55Speaker 2: going to say he was promised carries, but I think
- 38:57Speaker 2: he's going to get a lot of touches.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Man, I mean, if Byron Brown is at 3, what,
- 39:03Speaker 1: do you have him at 310 and you get Cobb
- 39:05Speaker 1: to 100? Auburn wins this game going away.
- 39:07Speaker 2: 400 yards of offense, just those two guys.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's 400 combined. And I mean, that's just two players.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I mean, Auburn's winning that game going away.
- 39:16Speaker 2: But you're leading Rusher and Golish's offense not even close
- 39:20Speaker 2: with twice as many carries as the next guy was
- 39:23Speaker 2: Byron Brown with over 1,000 yards. But there were three
- 39:25Speaker 2: running backs that had 73, 80, and 93 carries. So
- 39:29Speaker 2: you know he likes to share.
- 39:30Speaker 1: It uh hard rock bet excuse me hard rock dot
- 39:34Speaker 1: bet backslash clay hard rock dot bet backslash clay uh
- 39:38Speaker 1: to have all the fun with all the games starting
- 39:41Speaker 1: tonight go enjoy that when we come back One former

- 39:49Speaker 1: and passion around that program with him as the head
- 39:52Speaker 1: coach right now. We talk about that on the other
- 39:54Speaker 1: side and then get to Gene Chizik as we continue
- 39:57Speaker 1: here on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets

- 40:09Speaker 1: the passing of Lou Holtz this offseason. They're going to
- 40:12Speaker 1: throw Lou Holtz Memorial decal on the Golden Dome there.
- 40:19Speaker 1: The Lou sticker on their helmets all year long. I
- 40:22Speaker 1: wonder if South Carolina will do anything.
- 40:23Speaker 2: That's a good question.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I haven't seen it. Because he proved sort of you
- 40:26Speaker 1: could win at South Carolina.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 1: He set the table for Spurrier. Before Spurrier got there,
- 40:31Speaker 1: Holtz did. But Notre Dame will throw the Lou Holtz
- 40:33Speaker 1: decal on after the passing of Lou Holtz. in the
- 40:36Speaker 1: offseason all year long right there on the Golden Dome.

- 41:45Speaker 2: Who do you guys consider a better head coach, Brian
- 41:48Speaker 2: Kelly or Lou Holtz?
- 41:52Speaker 1: Lou Holtz.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I think it's Brian Kelly. Outside of the National Championship.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Brian's not watching the show, so you don't have to
- 42:00Speaker 2: kiss up to him.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Lance loves him some Brian Kelly.
- 42:02Speaker 2: No, I don't.
- 42:03Speaker 1: I mean, he's a very unlikable guy. He's just a
- 42:05Speaker 1: really good coach. It's interesting, though, how many coaches we
- 42:07Speaker 1: compare to Brian Kelly. And it is a tough comparison.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Brian won a lot of games. Lou Holtz was awful
- 42:13Speaker 1: at William & Mary. No. He was.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Give me the person that was good at William & Mary.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I know, but you know.
- 42:19Speaker 1: I'm not sure Mary was good at William & Mary.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Part of Brian Kelly still is Grand Valley State. He
- 42:24Speaker 1: was a dominant coach there.
- 42:26Speaker 2: NC State... Dave Duren all over again. Arkansas, not as
- 42:31Speaker 2: good as Bobby Petrino, a little bit better than Bielema.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Yeah, had Arkansas, won a Southwest Conference championship, had him
- 42:37Speaker 1: in the Sugar Bowl.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Minnesota, not good as P.J. Fleck. And Notre Dame, outside
- 42:42Speaker 2: of the national championship, not good as Bright Valley.
- 42:44Speaker 1: No, he did have to rebuild it after Jerry Fowles.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 42:46Speaker 1: He replaced Jerry Fowles, and it was a disaster.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Built him from nothing, but won a national championship. South Carolina,
- 42:51Speaker 2: very frank, or very.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but he was building them. I mean, he took
- 42:55Speaker 1: over Notre Dame and South Carolina at terrible times.
- 42:57Speaker 2: I think South Carolina was 1-10, or.
- 43:00Speaker 3: 0-11.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Yeah, he was 0-11. I think they lost their first
- 43:03Speaker 2: 21 or something like that.
- 43:05Speaker 1: They were very bad when he got there, and he
- 43:07Speaker 1: had to dig them out of a hole. But then
- 43:08Speaker 1: he set the table for Spurger.
- 43:10Speaker 2: And worse than Chip Kelly or Nick Saban in the NFL. Yeah,
- 43:13Speaker 2: I definitely think Brian Kelly was outside of that, you know,
- 43:17Speaker 2: holding on to that national championship. I'll take Lou Holtz.
- 43:20Speaker 2: God rest his soul.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley is up for debate on why how good
- 43:24Speaker 1: of a coach he is, especially at USC. Listen, this
- 43:27Speaker 1: attendance story may be getting too much play. Lincoln Riley
- 43:31Speaker 1: defending the lack of fans there and the heat of 94,
- 43:36Speaker 1: 95 degrees in Los Angeles, man. Around the SEC, we'll
- 43:41Speaker 1: be sitting in 100-degree weather, 110, 111 heat index this weekend.
- 43:47Speaker 1: We're just built different here than they are on the
- 43:48Speaker 1: West Coast. Fewer things to do, traffic.
- 43:50Speaker 2: I got it all. Here's Lincoln Riley.
- 43:52Speaker 3: I'm curious what you made of the reaction over the
- 43:55Speaker 3: weekend to the attendance.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Obviously, it kind of took on a life of its own.
- 44:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, listen, this is USC, right? People are
- 44:05Speaker 6: going to pay attention. People are going to have an opinion.
- 44:07Speaker 6: It's part of being a Blue Bloods school. I don't
- 44:10Speaker 6: buy into the false narrative. I think that comes from
- 44:13Speaker 6: a lot of people that don't follow our program and
- 44:16Speaker 6: most of those who have never stepped foot in the Coliseum.
- 44:19Speaker 6: The reality is, during my years here, attendance has gone
- 44:22Speaker 6: up every single year, as has our play in the Coliseum,
- 44:25Speaker 6: including running the table last year in front of a
- 44:27Speaker 6: lot of epic atmospheres, and I expect that to happen
- 44:29Speaker 6: again this year.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Okay, so I think they're approaching selling out the rest
- 44:34Speaker 1: of their games.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Yeah, look, they've got really, really good games coming up. Look,
- 44:38Speaker 2: it's a lackadaisical, soft fan base. I've seen them up
- 44:42Speaker 2: close and personal. I went to an Oregon game in
- 44:43Speaker 2: the Coliseum. It was early November. It was maybe 70
- 44:47Speaker 2: degrees and people had down jackets on. I can't make
- 44:50Speaker 2: it up. So when you do have 95 degrees the
- 44:53Speaker 2: weekend before Labor Day, when the beaches are still going,
- 44:57Speaker 2: there's not going to be a crowd for San Jose State.
- 44:59Speaker 2: I was surprised at how... how few people were there,
- 45:02Speaker 2: how sparse it was, and what it looked like on TV.
- 45:05Speaker 1: But Lance, Auburn went and played USC back in the
- 45:08Speaker 1: day out there in a Labor Day weekend game. Still
- 45:12Speaker 1: warm weather, still beaches. They had beaches back in California
- 45:15Speaker 1: back when Carnell Williams played. 2003, it was sold out. Well,
- 45:19Speaker 1: I mean, part of it is at San Jose State.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Had that been a team the level of an SEC team,
- 45:24Speaker 1: it would have.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Been a better crowd. I mean, 30,000 other fans would
- 45:25Speaker 2: have traveled to that game.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I mean, it would have been a much better crowd.
- 45:28Speaker 2: That's the thing. And you're going back to the Pete
- 45:30Speaker 2: Carroll days. Now, that was before Pete Carroll won a championship,
- 45:32Speaker 2: but it still was Carson Palmer, and it was a
- 45:34Speaker 2: home and home, and there were a lot of Auburn
- 45:36Speaker 2: fans there. San Jose State is just not going to draw.
- 45:38Speaker 2: You will get more of a crowd for Fresno State.
- 45:40Speaker 2: And by the way, this is not one of those
- 45:42Speaker 2: crowds that's going to be like, oh, we got called out.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Let's show up and feel for us. They won't give
- 45:45Speaker 2: a rip.
- 45:47Speaker 1: It's East Carolina and Alabama. Every seat won't be filled, but.
- 45:53Speaker 1: It'll be a huge crowd, bigger than the Coliseum will hold.
- 45:56Speaker 2: I think the problem there, Dunaway, is.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Same at William Bryce with South Carolina. I mean, even
- 46:01Speaker 1: Kroger Field will be packed with Youngstown State in town.
- 46:04Speaker 2: I think we are going to see a lot of,
- 46:05Speaker 2: not a lot, but we'll see a good amount of
- 46:08Speaker 2: empty seats for a home opener in Brighton, Denny. I
- 46:13Speaker 2: was on VSYN yesterday with our friend Stormy, who's going
- 46:16Speaker 2: to be on sideline for that game, and she brought
- 46:19Speaker 2: up the heat. Everybody's talking about this massive... This 110
- 46:22Speaker 2: heat index has people scared. I mean, there is no
- 46:25Speaker 2: chance that I would go to a game like that.
- 46:26Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 46:27Speaker 1: There'll be empty seats, but I think you're right. It'll
- 46:29Speaker 1: be a crowd big enough to fill the Coliseum, or
- 46:31Speaker 1: at least look better than that. Petros Papadakis played for USC.
- 46:36Speaker 1: He is a longtime sports radio and college football television
- 46:40Speaker 1: analyst on L.A. AM 570 in Los Angeles. Had this
- 46:45Speaker 1: to say about Lincoln Riley and that attendance.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Most of USC's modern problems in this era or arena,
- 46:53Speaker 3: I think, as far as selling the program stem from
- 46:57Speaker 3: Lincoln Riley. Who relates to almost nobody. He never interacts
- 47:05Speaker 3: with the fans, ever. Never participates in anything. And if
- 47:11Speaker 3: he does, it's begrudgingly. He has closed practices. Media members,
- 47:16Speaker 3: more than one, and you know way more under the table,
- 47:21Speaker 3: are constantly threatened with banishment. If anything leaks, you remember
- 47:26Speaker 3: the story from a couple years ago. I wasn't surprised
- 47:29Speaker 3: to see nobody there because Lincoln Riley has zero connection
- 47:34Speaker 3: to the alums, to the fan base, and he doesn't
- 47:39Speaker 3: care to. It's obvious. Now, if he had a bad
- 47:42Speaker 3: attitude and he was a mean and quiet guy like
- 47:45Speaker 3: he is and he didn't want to relate with anybody
- 47:48Speaker 3: and he was winning 11 games a year and going
- 47:51Speaker 3: to the college football playoff and Caleb Williams wins back-to-back
- 47:55Speaker 3: Heismans or something instead of crapping out in his second
- 47:58Speaker 3: year at USC, maybe people have a different issue. But
- 48:01Speaker 3: they haven't. done anything near what they're supposed to do.
- 48:05Speaker 3: And he doesn't do anything to sell the program. It's
- 48:10Speaker 3: not enough in today's day and age with the competition
- 48:13Speaker 3: in town and the competition of how great college football
- 48:16Speaker 3: is on TV and how much people like pro football
- 48:19Speaker 3: here in town and so fine, all that. There is
- 48:22Speaker 3: no excuse for that crowd. And the crowd was about
- 48:25Speaker 3: USC to me more than it was about the weather.
- 48:28Speaker 2: I love this. I mean, Petros has never had a filter,
- 48:30Speaker 2: but the candor there, From a former, by the way,
- 48:33Speaker 2: you'll never see another Greek running back in Power 4.
- 48:36Speaker 1: He's one of a kind.
- 48:37Speaker 2: But to close the break.
- 48:38Speaker 1: He says that.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Let's be honest, though. Did you ever think you'd see
- 48:41Speaker 2: an NBA MVP? with Greek roots. That's a good point.
- 48:46Speaker 2: They look a lot different, Jeff. Let's don't say ever.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Let's don't paint Greece into a corner. But yeah, but
- 48:53Speaker 2: he's a seven-footer with incredible skill. How about this? A
- 48:57Speaker 2: white Greek running back at the power four. But everything
- 49:00Speaker 2: he said is spot on. You guys remember Pete Carroll.
- 49:02Speaker 1: A lot of people go to Ibiza.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Is that Greece? No, that's Spain. Pete Carroll was the
- 49:09Speaker 2: ultimate salesman. And he cared about that fan base. He
- 49:13Speaker 2: cared about the alumni. Clay Helton was such a genuinely
- 49:17Speaker 2: nice guy. And now you get this from Lincoln. Riley,
- 49:20Speaker 2: and Petros is dead on, and you guys would agree
- 49:22Speaker 2: with it. As long as you're winning, you can really
- 49:23Speaker 2: do anything. It does not matter. He does look like
- 49:26Speaker 2: a misfit out there, right? Well, I think— Like, he
- 49:29Speaker 2: looks Oklahoma. He looks Texas. He looks uncomfortable. He doesn't
- 49:32Speaker 2: look USC.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Like, honestly, the cut that Scott had there of him
- 49:36Speaker 1: at the podium, I thought he looked skinnier than normal. Like,
- 49:39Speaker 1: almost he's, like, stressed skinny. Oh, I— Like LT goes
- 49:43Speaker 1: to the weight room every day. I don't go to
- 49:44Speaker 1: the weight room. I'm more Lincoln Riley, except he doesn't
- 49:47Speaker 1: have a gut. I don't know what you mean by that.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Like stress skinny.
- 49:50Speaker 2: I think it's fine the way it's worn on him.
- 49:54Speaker 2: But this is going to be that make-or-break year for sure. Like,
- 49:57Speaker 2: I will be shocked if they miss the college football
- 49:59Speaker 2: playoff if he is back. And I can see it
- 50:01Speaker 2: being a mutual decision.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Well, he left Oklahoma to go to USC. I mean,
- 50:05Speaker 1: if he has a good year, I wouldn't put it
- 50:07Speaker 1: past him leaving USC to go somewhere he's more comfortable.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Yeah, if he could get the right kind of job, yeah,
- 50:12Speaker 2: I agree with you. I think he could bolt easily. Yeah,
- 50:15Speaker 2: I mean, I would just– It sounds like, if all
- 50:18Speaker 2: of this is true, what Petros is saying. And again,
- 50:20Speaker 2: for those that don't know who Petros Papadakis is. Love him.
- 50:23Speaker 1: He's a very entertaining guy. That's a really good show.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Matt Money Smith and Petros of Money.
- 50:27Speaker 2: Back when we were on AM690, they would follow us
- 50:29Speaker 2: on AM690.
- 50:30Speaker 1: And I listened to it on the way home. They
- 50:31Speaker 1: were on Fox Sports Radio, and it was a very
- 50:33Speaker 1: entertaining show. So like, God, I wish I had a
- 50:35Speaker 1: co-host that good. I wish I had a Greek co-host.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Very entertaining show. But Petros, I mean, they're on in
- 50:42Speaker 1: the L.A.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Market.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Petros is a known guy in the L.A.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Market.
- 50:45Speaker 1: He's a former USC player calling out their coach. Very
- 50:48Speaker 1: pro-town to do that, by the way. It sounded like
- 50:53Speaker 1: if all of what Petros says is true, Lincoln Riley
- 50:55Speaker 1: thought he was taking a job. We always heard USC
- 50:58Speaker 1: is like an NFL franchise. It feels like he's treating
- 51:00Speaker 1: this like an NFL franchise. Let's go to say we
- 51:02Speaker 1: alluded to this.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Lincoln Riley will be Texas Tech's next head coach. Do
- 51:07Speaker 2: you think.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Lamont Believer is right about this? I was going to
- 51:09Speaker 1: say that. I believe that he'd be more comfortable there.
- 51:12Speaker 1: He knows the NIL would be there. 100%. Regardless of
- 51:18Speaker 1: what he does this year, I could see him doing it.
- 51:19Speaker 2: He's got the roots. I think what happens if Joey
- 51:21Speaker 2: McGuire doesn't make the college football playoff this year, and
- 51:24Speaker 2: this is crazy, if he misses it with the money
- 51:27Speaker 2: they're spending, I could see... Cody Campbell say, this is
- 51:31Speaker 2: our guy. Let's get a Red Raider in here. It's
- 51:33Speaker 2: going to be a fun offense.
- 51:34Speaker 1: Especially if Lincoln floats his name like, hey, Joey, I'll
- 51:36Speaker 1: take that job if it's open.
- 51:38Speaker 2: And I bet he would make more money. Let's tell
- 51:39Speaker 2: that to Joey.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Wait a minute.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Yeah, my bad.
- 51:42Speaker 1: He told the wrong guy.
- 51:42Speaker 2: But it is a better fit. That was– He would
- 51:45Speaker 2: fall forward as far as not being with the blue
- 51:47Speaker 2: blood anymore, but as far as the resources and the
- 51:49Speaker 2: money that he would make.
- 51:50Speaker 1: That was the verbal equivalent of what I often do
- 51:52Speaker 1: is thinking I'm replying to one person in a text
- 51:54Speaker 1: and I'm replying.
- 51:55Speaker 2: To the actual text at the top.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I will tell you, our exit from terrestrial radio seven
- 51:59Speaker 1: years ago, you're... Your brain worked a little better. I mean, nowadays,
- 52:04Speaker 1: I don't know if we would trust you with all
- 52:05Speaker 1: of our behind-the-scenes dealings. My handicap's lower.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Landmine Believer. You think that's it? You play too much
- 52:11Speaker 2: golf now?
- 52:12Speaker 1: Probably. Landmine Believer says the Rams are turning to LA
- 52:15Speaker 1: Hurd at USC.
- 52:16Speaker 2: That is true, right? Oh, yeah.
- 52:17Speaker 1: The Rams being back at another football option.
- 52:19Speaker 2: If you wanted football, the USC.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Was your option.
- 52:22Speaker 2: But here's another factor. And it's a good football option, too.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Here's another factor, though, too.
- 52:26Speaker 1: If I'm going to a Rams game or a Chargers game,
- 52:28Speaker 1: I'm sitting under a roof. I know it's outdoors technically still,
- 52:32Speaker 1: but I'm still in shade. With, I assume, some air
- 52:35Speaker 1: conditioning blowing. I don't know if there is any at all,
- 52:37Speaker 1: but you at least have a breeze in shade. And
- 52:39Speaker 1: if it is 95 degrees, I'm sitting out in the sun.
- 52:42Speaker 2: You know what? Parking. I got dropped off. I got
- 52:44Speaker 2: completely abandoned by my group last year for that Iowa-USC
- 52:48Speaker 2: game where it poured rain, and I sent out video
- 52:49Speaker 2: and forced and posted it. But my group, they dropped
- 52:52Speaker 2: me at the curb, but parking around the Coliseum is $ 100. Oh, yeah. So, like, I... Again,
- 52:58Speaker 2: everything has gotten so expensive. You think about what gas
- 53:01Speaker 2: prices are out there. It's $ 100 in Tuscaloosa, too. It's
- 53:04Speaker 2: expensive to go to these games.
- 53:06Speaker 1: But the Rams are a better product.
- 53:07Speaker 2: It's a front-runner town.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Gene Chizik, national championship-winning coach, SEC analyst, joins us on
- 53:14Speaker 1: the other side. This is the next round presented by
- 53:17Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bets on Sporting States.
