- 0:00Speaker 1: This is a big day. Three o'clock this afternoon, President
- 0:06Speaker 1: Donald Trump is going to sign an executive order to
- 0:10Speaker 1: keep men out of women's sports. Is it going to
- 0:15Speaker 1: be K twelve? Is it going to be collegiate? Is
- 0:17Speaker 1: it going to be broader? How far will it go? Specifics?
- 0:23Speaker 1: I don't know, but I can tell you this. This
- 0:26Speaker 1: is about preventing some of the crimes we've already seen committed.
- 0:31Speaker 1: And we're not even talking about the crimes of robbing
- 0:37Speaker 1: young ladies of scholarship, offers of awards, of placement on podiums.
- 0:45Speaker 1: This is about a lot more than that. I've mentioned
- 0:47Speaker 1: to you over time that my aunt Wilma Scott Heidi
- 0:52Speaker 1: co authored Title nine. She would be mortified at what
- 0:58Speaker 1: has happened in this country. But I am thrilled to
- 1:02Speaker 1: have with us Riley Gaines. Riley, you are a hero.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I described you as a tip of the spear. Tell
- 1:09Speaker 1: us what your expectations are today with the executive order
- 1:12Speaker 1: from President Trump.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Well, let me just say it is a pleasure to
- 1:16Speaker 2: be on with you. And of course I know exactly
- 1:19Speaker 2: who who your grandmother is, So what I mean, really
- 1:22Speaker 2: what an honor. Look, I'm thrilled to see President Trump
- 1:28Speaker 2: take decisive action as he is in signing this executive order.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Of course, it was a campaign promise of his I
- 1:34Speaker 2: remember when his platform was released, issue number seventeen in
- 1:37Speaker 2: big bold butters no men and women's sports, and he's
- 1:40Speaker 2: certainly fulfilling on that promise that things could have been
- 1:45Speaker 2: so different had the alternative one on November fifth. If
- 1:51Speaker 2: that were the case, there would be no future of
- 1:54Speaker 2: women's sports, because you don't have women's sports when you
- 1:57Speaker 2: allow men into them. My hope for today President Trump,
- 2:03Speaker 2: and what I expect is timp to send a very
- 2:06Speaker 2: clear message to women across the nation, old, young, it
- 2:10Speaker 2: doesn't matter. The message is that you matter, You are
- 2:14Speaker 2: worthy of calling yourself champions. You shouldn't have to compete
- 2:17Speaker 2: against a man to succeed and to thrive. And so
- 2:21Speaker 2: that to me is moral clarity. That to me is
- 2:24Speaker 2: of course common sense, which is certainly what the other
- 2:27Speaker 2: side really I mean. Unfortunately, what an entire political party,
- 2:31Speaker 2: at least in terms of elected representation, has lost the
- 2:35Speaker 2: ability to do. They've lost the ability to communicate with
- 2:38Speaker 2: with commentants, everyday people, and of course their messaging on
- 2:41Speaker 2: issues like this one is totally off the mark from
- 2:45Speaker 2: how everyday Americans feel, Riley.
- 2:48Speaker 1: One of the things that I've noted, as a guy
- 2:51Speaker 1: who has followed sports for a lot of my adult
- 2:53Speaker 1: life because of my dad's background, who is a broadcaster
- 2:56Speaker 1: for CBS Television, I've noticed the NCAA's total and complete
- 3:01Speaker 1: lack of courage and all of this. They continue to say, well,
- 3:05Speaker 1: we're going to wait on the government. So now does
- 3:07Speaker 1: this action finally get the NCAA to do the right thing?
- 3:13Speaker 2: That's the intentions. Of course, there there's always a bit
- 3:16Speaker 2: of a hurdle and enforcing we will see how willing
- 3:20Speaker 2: they are to comply. But honestly, I think the NCUBLEA
- 3:24Speaker 2: is thrilled that President Trump is signing this executive order.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Based on the conversations I've had with the higher ups there,
- 3:30Speaker 2: they all tell me, look, we want to do the
- 3:33Speaker 2: right thing. Our hands are tied. And when I ask them,
- 3:35Speaker 2: I'm like, what do you mean your hands are tied?
- 3:37Speaker 2: You know you're the president of the nc double A.
- 3:40Speaker 2: They say to me, well, well, you know, we don't
- 3:41Speaker 2: want to lose we we don't want to be sued, this,
- 3:44Speaker 2: this and this. Obviously it's the very money driven motive,
- 3:48Speaker 2: to which I responded with, Okay, I'm going to sue you,
- 3:51Speaker 2: and I am anyways, I hope that we will see
- 3:55Speaker 2: the CHUA as comply. But we had Charlie Baker testify
- 4:00Speaker 2: for the Senate just a few weeks ago, and he
- 4:02Speaker 2: said basically that the INA is not beholden to Title nine,
- 4:06Speaker 2: to which if that's the case, then I hope the
- 4:08Speaker 2: Department of Education especially follows through and says the no
- 4:12Speaker 2: federal funding for the INA and for these institutions that
- 4:15Speaker 2: allow this.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope so as well. Is the executive order
- 4:19Speaker 1: going to expand into restrooms locker room facilities in public,
- 4:25Speaker 1: whether it's colleges or K twelve schools.
- 4:29Speaker 2: The executive Order has not been released fully yet, but
- 4:33Speaker 2: I imagine what will happen is similar to legislation that's being
- 4:37Speaker 2: introduced even Hr twenty eight in the House, for example,
- 4:40Speaker 2: I imagine it will cover women's sports and women's spaces
- 4:43Speaker 2: like locker rooms. And again, as someone with personal experience
- 4:47Speaker 2: here on both fronts, I can attest to how violating.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Obviously people everyone can at least everyone with a pair
- 4:58Speaker 2: of sensibility rationality can see the unfairness in the competition.
- 5:03Speaker 2: But what you could never possibly understand unless it's a
- 5:06Speaker 2: situation you know, you, yourself or maybe your daughter has been in,
- 5:10Speaker 2: is just how violating that locker room was. Being forced
- 5:14Speaker 2: to undress next to a six foot four man who
- 5:17Speaker 2: was fully naked, fully impact fully exposing himself inches away
- 5:21Speaker 2: from where we were simultaneously fully undressed. I mean that,
- 5:25Speaker 2: to me, at least in terms of betrayal, felt a
- 5:30Speaker 2: lot more just violating than the competition piece did. So
- 5:34Speaker 2: I think this will be an all encompassing executive order. Riley.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I know you've got a lot of interviews, a lot
- 5:38Speaker 1: of things. It's going to be a busy day, one
- 5:40Speaker 1: that you should be very proud of because you have
- 5:42Speaker 1: been in the front of all of this. You've taken
- 5:45Speaker 1: a lot of attacks physically as well as online and
- 5:49Speaker 1: so forth. I hope I don't sound like just a
- 5:53Speaker 1: doddering old man when I say I'm proud of you.
- 5:56Speaker 2: That makes my day. It really does. Like I said,
- 6:00Speaker 2: it's that's the way the majority of Americans feel. For
- 6:03Speaker 2: a while, it was framed as if this was you know,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I was in the minority for thinking how I did
- 6:09Speaker 2: maybe two years ago. But to see now the support
- 6:13Speaker 2: and to see and really feel the encouragement and the
- 6:16Speaker 2: people who stand beside me, people like yourself. Man's it's
- 6:21Speaker 2: it's just feels like we're being vindicated right now with
- 6:24Speaker 2: everything going on, all the winds present, Trump signing another
- 6:27Speaker 2: executive order on day one declaring there are only two
- 6:30Speaker 2: sexes because your grandma imagine that that that would need
- 6:34Speaker 2: to be done at any point.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Well, our no, and it was my aunt by the way,
- 6:39Speaker 1: that was behind all of that. But listen, Riley, I
- 6:43Speaker 1: know you got to run. There are rumors you might
- 6:45Speaker 1: be in the area sometime this year, so if that,
- 6:48Speaker 1: if that happens, I hope we get an opportunity to
- 6:51Speaker 1: have a longer visit.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Absolutely, I would love that, Yes, sir, Thanks.
- 6:54Speaker 1: So very much, Riley. Best best of success to you.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Thank you very much. Riley Gains with us this morning
