- 0:26Speaker 3: HiT's the classy I'm a hard all right, all right,
- 0:31Speaker 3: welcome back another episode of Mixed Company Podcasts. Of course
- 0:35Speaker 3: we're back. Take a look week. You know, we take
- 0:37Speaker 3: a break off, and you know we can't do every week.
- 0:39Speaker 3: It's not a whole lot that goes on for us
- 0:41Speaker 3: be here every week, but you know, every other week,
- 0:44Speaker 3: normal time, normal situation. Myself Jamison Welsh, and of course
- 0:48Speaker 3: I'm joined by the classy alcoholic classic What's going on?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Oh Man? Good to be back to with episode four
- 0:54Speaker 2: of Everybody's favorite new pro boxing podcast. So, if y'all
- 0:58Speaker 2: celebrated Thanksgiving last week, I hope you had a great time.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Hopefully had a fun, safe time with family and if
- 1:03Speaker 2: you had to work it, your retail bartender hoped that
- 1:08Speaker 2: it wasn't too crazy and none of the customers were
- 1:10Speaker 2: sticks to you. But Jamison, how's your Thanksgiving?
- 1:13Speaker 3: It was really cool? Went back home in southern California
- 1:16Speaker 3: for about a day and a half, got some food,
- 1:18Speaker 3: saw some family, good conversations. They had it right back
- 1:21Speaker 3: to Vegas all as well as cold outside, it was
- 1:25Speaker 3: a little chili, you know, we are in the desert.
- 1:27Speaker 3: But other than that, no plants at all. I'm glad
- 1:29Speaker 3: December is here. I'm glad that we're closer to the
- 1:32Speaker 3: new year. Got some good stuff coming up, so just
- 1:35Speaker 3: to chucking right along.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Often that's great. It is not cold here in Arizona
- 1:40Speaker 2: where actually was a pretty sad heat wave here since
- 1:44Speaker 2: the last week. But yeah, whatever it's been. We used
- 1:47Speaker 2: to have cold halloweens back when I moved here twenty
- 1:49Speaker 2: years ago, but it's not a thing anymore. But yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 2: but either way, you know, I'm excited to be back
- 1:54Speaker 2: and excited to talk about some awesome topics. You know,
- 1:57Speaker 2: let's just get right to it. Let's do some quick
- 2:00Speaker 2: lightning rounds on the news on Boxing News. So on
- 2:05Speaker 2: our pilot episode, we talked extensively about the possibility of
- 2:08Speaker 2: Terrence Bud Crawford fighting Canal Avarice. We're still not sure
- 2:12Speaker 2: if that fight will happen, but there's actually been rumors
- 2:15Speaker 2: that Bud Crawford may retire if he doesn't get the
- 2:17Speaker 2: Canelo fight, which is unacceptable. So as far as I'm concerned,
- 2:22Speaker 2: this fight must happen if that's true.
- 2:25Speaker 3: So, yeah, boxers starting to retire every day. Hell, I'll
- 2:28Speaker 3: sell everything about tank talking about this is last year
- 2:31Speaker 3: in twenty five boxing. So like we hear about boxing
- 2:34Speaker 3: retiring every year. Like let's relax, like let's less, let's
- 2:38Speaker 3: show a little bit. We understand these things do happen. Also,
- 2:42Speaker 3: it's a great negotiating point. It's a great thing to
- 2:46Speaker 3: have in your back pocket just in case you got
- 2:48Speaker 3: to pull that car to get more money or more
- 2:50Speaker 3: leverage in whatever it is that you're trying to accomplish.
- 2:53Speaker 3: So we get it. I mean, for the most part,
- 2:55Speaker 3: every boxer either threatened to retired or retired and came
- 2:59Speaker 3: back times. I don't think it's a big deal. I
- 3:01Speaker 3: just think that there's really only one big fight for Crawford,
- 3:05Speaker 3: and we saw what happened the last fight. It wasn't
- 3:08Speaker 3: as clean as previous fights, it was not as dominant
- 3:12Speaker 3: as other fights. So he's looking at like, hey man,
- 3:15Speaker 3: I'm getting older. We all know what happens when guys
- 3:18Speaker 3: get old that fight like he do, like he does.
- 3:20Speaker 3: We know that the skills are not the same once
- 3:22Speaker 3: you advance an age, no matter how sharp you are.
- 3:25Speaker 3: He's looking like, hey, I got one payday left. I'm
- 3:28Speaker 3: going to wait it out and then see what happens.
- 3:29Speaker 3: So we'll definitely see. But he ain't retiring, all right,
- 3:32Speaker 3: all right.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I'm a bit worried because you know, I don't want
- 3:35Speaker 2: to lose, but he's a great fighter and we'll miss him.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Uh And you know, just to try to convince people
- 3:40Speaker 2: to make this happen. We're a young podcast. I'm sure
- 3:42Speaker 2: Canelo isn't listening, but I'm pretty sure as trainer and
- 3:45Speaker 2: manager Eric Renoso is, so Eddie, now you're listening, make
- 3:52Speaker 2: the deal for the fight.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Please.
- 3:55Speaker 2: We want to see this happen. The fans wanted, the
- 3:57Speaker 2: people want it, the boxing world needs it.
- 3:59Speaker 3: It's bigger than boxing world. This is a sports world.
- 4:01Speaker 3: That's the thing. We don't have that many fights in
- 4:04Speaker 3: either combat sport that the general person want to see,
- 4:08Speaker 3: the general fan want to see. This is bigger than
- 4:10Speaker 3: Spence Crawford Spence. This is bigger than any other fight
- 4:14Speaker 3: that you made in boxing. Right now, this also it
- 4:17Speaker 3: joins the black and brown people together at the table. Again.
- 4:21Speaker 3: It raised together Bigs Company ironically if it were to
- 4:24Speaker 3: come about. But no, it's one of those situations where
- 4:27Speaker 3: we need to have a situation where all of our
- 4:29Speaker 3: main guys are fighting. We got to have the big brands,
- 4:34Speaker 3: the big names, playing and fighting each other. If not,
- 4:36Speaker 3: then sports is in sports, like we have to get
- 4:39Speaker 3: this like it's more so then you don't want the
- 4:42Speaker 3: thing to die. You don't want the all that matchup.
- 4:45Speaker 3: That sounds cool, but it's never going to happen. We
- 4:47Speaker 3: went through that way it want to pack you out
- 4:49Speaker 3: ten years ago, where it got talked about for so long.
- 4:52Speaker 3: By time it happened, there's no interest in that. I
- 4:54Speaker 3: don't want to be in twenty twenty eight and Bud's
- 4:57Speaker 3: forty something, we're talking about him fighting Canelo. That's about there.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I don't want it. We don't want that. We want
- 5:02Speaker 3: that when God is still able to fight at the
- 5:03Speaker 3: best their abilities and go from there.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Absolutely agreed, So fingers crossed, we see that fight soon.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Next thing I read, Ryan Garcia is supposed to be
- 5:12Speaker 2: back in the ring for an exhibition fight against that
- 5:14Speaker 2: Japanese Kickboxer on December thirtieth. He's still doing time on
- 5:18Speaker 2: his one year suspension after being caught doping during the
- 5:21Speaker 2: last fight against Devin Hainey. But Ryan's promoter, Oscar de
- 5:24Speaker 2: Laya says he and Golden Boyd Promotions have the right
- 5:27Speaker 2: to sign off on any of Ryan's fights and they're
- 5:29Speaker 2: not going to do that. So is this fight it
- 5:31Speaker 2: even happening? I think the drama is a bit more
- 5:33Speaker 2: exciting than the prospect of the fight. Honestly, we already
- 5:36Speaker 2: talked about at length how we don't really care about exhibitions.
- 5:39Speaker 2: It's not real boxing. The it's not. The question is
- 5:42Speaker 2: that do we care about this fight? Is do we
- 5:44Speaker 2: care about Ryan Garcia coming back? I'm kind of sick
- 5:46Speaker 2: of his shit, to be quite honest with here.
- 5:48Speaker 3: So in general we do care beco he's a name,
- 5:50Speaker 3: and he's a name for different reasons, so we definitely care. However,
- 5:55Speaker 3: the reason why Oscar has signed off on it is
- 5:56Speaker 3: because Oscar probably is not getting paid as much as
- 5:59Speaker 3: he wants to from this. That's the biggest reason. If
- 6:01Speaker 3: you're telling me Austin Gett a nice split, then he
- 6:03Speaker 3: definitely signs off on it. If it's a situation where
- 6:06Speaker 3: it's not a part of his contract deal with Golden Boy,
- 6:09Speaker 3: and that's a whole different conversation. So I think that's
- 6:11Speaker 3: the biggest hang up right now is that Oscar is
- 6:14Speaker 3: not getting financially compensated from this situation. So I think
- 6:18Speaker 3: that's the biggest hang up on everything. However, here's the thing.
- 6:22Speaker 3: We don't need to see Ryan Garcia fight anyone like
- 6:25Speaker 3: that because here's if he gets hurt doing that, it
- 6:29Speaker 3: pushes the timeline back even further. The year's suspension. It
- 6:32Speaker 3: feels like it's going to be coming up early.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Was it?
- 6:35Speaker 3: When? When was the suspension official last year? This past year,
- 6:41Speaker 3: So we're coming up on that, I mean, the new
- 6:42Speaker 3: year's coming up. Once in the year comes, you're you
- 6:45Speaker 3: can't risk anything happening to where a shoulder, he tears
- 6:49Speaker 3: a labram, or he enters me or an ankle to
- 6:51Speaker 3: where you got three more months of recovery on top
- 6:55Speaker 3: of the time. You can't risk that. So I understand
- 6:58Speaker 3: the caution of it. However, there's not a lot of
- 7:00Speaker 3: money in that exhibition. Fast thing is not why he's
- 7:03Speaker 3: going to make fifty million. That ain't no one he
- 7:05Speaker 3: don't have that kind of fan so I just think
- 7:08Speaker 3: it's a very It's a high risk, low award situation
- 7:12Speaker 3: for everybody involved.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I looked it up. Coincidentally, the fight was on four
- 7:16Speaker 2: to twenty this year. If this exhibition happens, it's going
- 7:20Speaker 2: to be in Tokyo, which is amazing by the way,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I visited several years ago. Absolutely love Tokyo. But on
- 7:26Speaker 2: this topic, just a bit of warning to Ryan, who
- 7:28Speaker 2: is it shy about telling people he likes to smoke weed,
- 7:30Speaker 2: which is cool. The Japanese do not fuck with weed.
- 7:34Speaker 2: That country loves alcohol to the point of basically encouraging
- 7:37Speaker 2: alcohol abuse, I know, but they consider smoking weed to
- 7:40Speaker 2: be as bad as doing heroin. So if this fight happens,
- 7:43Speaker 2: we might get news that Ryan Garcia gets busted at
- 7:46Speaker 2: Hayneeda Airport with some grass tucked into his shoe and
- 7:48Speaker 2: goes to japan jail. So let's I want to keep
- 7:51Speaker 2: an eye on that for that reason.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Honestly, Nah. So here's the thing. When you're a celebrity,
- 7:56Speaker 3: you go to those countries, you got to tap in
- 7:58Speaker 3: with other celebrities that are of that culture that do
- 8:00Speaker 3: what you do. You don't just go over there and
- 8:02Speaker 3: bring that in. You gotta tap in with whomever they'll
- 8:05Speaker 3: god you because people still mean put this a way.
- 8:07Speaker 3: People don't go there and smoking. It don't work that way.
- 8:10Speaker 3: There's ways getting done. However, with Ryan's situation, man, I
- 8:15Speaker 3: don't know, but I don't trust him to make the
- 8:16Speaker 3: right decisions. But also he feels like a guy that
- 8:19Speaker 3: has not grown up. He still feels like a child,
- 8:22Speaker 3: and I don't trust him to make an event like
- 8:25Speaker 3: this work. But also here's the thing too, what's the
- 8:29Speaker 3: plan when he comes back from suspension, Like, who's he
- 8:31Speaker 3: gonna fight? Does he get does him to do a rematch?
- 8:34Speaker 3: Does he get a lesser known fighter to get his
- 8:37Speaker 3: groove back and then fight a big name? What's the mark?
- 8:41Speaker 3: I have a lot of questions. I have a lot
- 8:43Speaker 3: of questions when it comes in.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I expect him to get a to fight. Honestly, something
- 8:47Speaker 2: needs some easy work, you know, some tomato can Maybe
- 8:50Speaker 2: that's kind of my expectation. But you know what, at
- 8:53Speaker 2: the end of the day, Ryan, if you do make
- 8:55Speaker 2: this fight happen, enjoy Tokyo. Man, it's a beautiful, beautiful place. Absolutely,
- 9:01Speaker 2: So let's see another thing. A literal movie trailer was
- 9:06Speaker 2: released over the weekend for the Fury versus Usik rematch
- 9:09Speaker 2: happening on December twenty first, And this thing is wild.
- 9:12Speaker 2: You did you get a chance to see this?
- 9:13Speaker 3: I did? I did.
- 9:15Speaker 2: If you're listening, you got to look this up on YouTube.
- 9:17Speaker 2: It's only two minutes long. Pause the episode. Give us
- 9:20Speaker 2: a five star review. Go on Google and YouTube after
- 9:22Speaker 2: that and look up just Fury Usic promo or Fury
- 9:26Speaker 2: Usic trailer. It's weirder than we could possibly describe it.
- 9:30Speaker 2: It's you know what, It's basically a short film, and
- 9:33Speaker 2: it looks as good as some shitty movies that have
- 9:35Speaker 2: seen in theaters, Like if you've seen some of the
- 9:37Speaker 2: lesser comic book movies, I think this trailer looks better
- 9:39Speaker 2: than a few of those.
- 9:41Speaker 3: You know what, most boxing trailers are actually really good though.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Looking but looking back on things, especially with like the
- 9:46Speaker 3: twenty four sevens and everything and the access on Showtime,
- 9:50Speaker 3: all those trailers in the shows were really well. I mean,
- 9:53Speaker 3: no one did it better than HBO as first and foremost,
- 9:55Speaker 3: no one did a better at HBO. I don't care
- 9:57Speaker 3: who was fine. Even if it was a small ranked
- 10:01Speaker 3: fight fight, it would not it would still bring intrigue.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Their product. Their production team was so top notch, so detailed,
- 10:08Speaker 3: it made you feel like you had to watch or
- 10:10Speaker 3: had to order the fight. So I like how. And
- 10:13Speaker 3: also you have to market it because no one's really
- 10:17Speaker 3: looking for Tyson Fury in twenty twenty five. No one's
- 10:20Speaker 3: really checking for him like that, So you gotta market it.
- 10:23Speaker 3: You better make it appeal to other people. But also
- 10:26Speaker 3: here's a while dude, Like that's a different cat, like
- 10:29Speaker 3: he's not normal.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Agreed, And you know, I think I like these these
- 10:35Speaker 2: these trailers. I like this one. There was a really
- 10:37Speaker 2: good one for better be versus Beebel. I think when
- 10:41Speaker 2: you're a fighter in your life is in the gym,
- 10:44Speaker 2: the promotion you do is like press conferences, waves, et cetera.
- 10:47Speaker 2: So doing something like this has got to be a
- 10:48Speaker 2: lot of fun. And I'm glad.
- 10:51Speaker 3: These guys are having fun, especially when you're not doing
- 10:53Speaker 3: anything outside of the ring, right, Like, it's one thing
- 10:55Speaker 3: if you're very active outside the ring, like if you
- 10:58Speaker 3: got something going on, or if you're like a star.
- 11:00Speaker 3: So if you're like a star on your oils outside
- 11:02Speaker 3: out of events, and that's one thing, But if you're
- 11:04Speaker 3: just a boxer, then yeah, you need these these type
- 11:07Speaker 3: of things to get people interested, so that schools gonna
- 11:10Speaker 3: be very interesting to see. But yeah, fears of wildcat
- 11:12Speaker 3: man wild wildcat. But also he hasn't been in shape
- 11:15Speaker 3: in the last handful of fire he's been The conditioning
- 11:18Speaker 3: has been really bad last few fights.
- 11:21Speaker 2: He's also six to nine. I mean that counts for
- 11:23Speaker 2: a lot.
- 11:23Speaker 3: I think it does, but you can't conditioning. You can
- 11:27Speaker 3: tell he gets a lot, he gets tired a lot
- 11:29Speaker 3: quicker in the fight to where he doesn't have a
- 11:33Speaker 3: lot left earlier than he did in the past. You
- 11:35Speaker 3: can tell he's not taking conditioning seriously as did in
- 11:39Speaker 3: the past. It's definitely something that's off.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I think he's coasting on the name and does doesn't
- 11:44Speaker 2: he have like energy drinks that He's probably making a
- 11:46Speaker 2: lot of money out.
- 11:46Speaker 3: British So he's making a lot of money. I actually
- 11:50Speaker 3: know somebody that's close to the camp, so I can't
- 11:53Speaker 3: necessarily to the name, but I'm I'm aware of the money.
- 11:56Speaker 3: He's yeah money and is more like you said, he's chilling.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Like it's a situation where you make enough money and
- 12:02Speaker 3: you chill and I get it. He's been bought. He's
- 12:04Speaker 3: based on a timer tour. He's basically on Leo. We
- 12:07Speaker 3: don't you don't have a whole lot of fights left,
- 12:08Speaker 3: so he's going cash in one more time and then
- 12:11Speaker 3: whatever happened after this happens.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Now the Mixed Company podcast has inside info. This is
- 12:16Speaker 2: the why we are the premiere pro boxing podcast.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I like it.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Uh cool. That's pretty much the topics of the news.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I wanted to get get out off top.
- 12:25Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I'll keep checking, you know, news alerts and all that
- 12:27Speaker 2: and anything that seems interesting. Well, we'll bring in the
- 12:30Speaker 2: news in the boxing world. But speaking of energy drinks,
- 12:32Speaker 2: I'm gonna crack one of mine. We're gonna be talking
- 12:35Speaker 2: about Mexican boxers today, So I'm pulling out another one
- 12:38Speaker 2: of my Canelos brand of canned como. It is good.
- 12:42Speaker 2: It is good. Yeah, But what's what's it like? It's
- 12:46Speaker 2: it's it's a It's a can of margarita, is what
- 12:48Speaker 2: it is. So it's not injury. That's that's a drink
- 12:51Speaker 2: drink for me, it's it's energy. I need to keep
- 12:54Speaker 2: the party going by which I'm.
- 12:55Speaker 3: So energy drink is a red Bull like uh so
- 12:59Speaker 3: we what monster, That's just that's just a drink. You yeah,
- 13:04Speaker 3: you just lived up to the day.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Wait sobriety when sobriety is sadness? This is my energy drink,
- 13:09Speaker 2: is all I'll say, right right. But they're but they
- 13:12Speaker 2: are good, Yeah, they're actually you know it's on People think, oh,
- 13:16Speaker 2: he's buying this thing because he's a Canelo fan boy.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Well I am a Canelo fan boy, but I actually
- 13:19Speaker 2: think these drinks are good. So they're called VMC. You
- 13:22Speaker 2: see him at your store, check them out, you know,
- 13:24Speaker 2: not an ad, but just a recommendation.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Okay, fair enough, Now I was checking. I thought I
- 13:28Speaker 3: was a real I thought you would think Canelo would
- 13:31Speaker 3: have an energy drink because the boxer. But you know,
- 13:33Speaker 3: with all that, with all due respect, you know.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I think he does. But I'm not going to buy
- 13:37Speaker 2: that because it doesn't have any boos in it.
- 13:38Speaker 3: So ah, gotcha.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I feel so big fight happening this weekend. I'm very excited.
- 13:47Speaker 2: December seventh, Phoenix, Arizona, Oscar Valdez versus Emanuel Navarette, two
- 13:52Speaker 2: Mexican fighters will face off for the second time. La
- 13:54Speaker 2: Revancha the rematch, and I will be in attendance. I
- 13:58Speaker 2: am very excited. So it's gonna be a great fight.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Did you see their first matchup? Jameson, I did see
- 14:06Speaker 2: the first matchup. Before we go in to details about that.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Where in Phoenix that fight at, is that in the
- 14:11Speaker 3: NBA arena or is that a small a smaller venue.
- 14:13Speaker 2: It is a small It's called the Footprint Center. Okay,
- 14:16Speaker 2: let me ask where the hockey team played or something
- 14:17Speaker 2: like that. Uh, you're thinking of Glenda the Glendale Arena.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I don't right, I don't know what the actual name
- 14:24Speaker 2: of it. But it's in the town of Glendale and
- 14:26Speaker 2: like the suburb of Phoenix. But this fight is going
- 14:29Speaker 2: to be right in the heart of downtown Phoenix for.
- 14:32Speaker 3: The Suns play. Yeah, it's big arena. Yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 14:35Speaker 3: that's cool. Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 2: No, I'm very excited. Down to the downtown hotel Prices. No,
- 14:42Speaker 2: there's a fight happening. Let me just say that. So
- 14:44Speaker 2: they're they're they're in the no. But yeah, this is
- 14:47Speaker 2: actually the first like professional, you know, televised boxing event
- 14:52Speaker 2: I will be attending. I've seen some you know, kind
- 14:55Speaker 2: of local events here and there, smaller name like young
- 14:59Speaker 2: guys that are trying to make a name for themselves,
- 15:01Speaker 2: and also some older guys that you know, maybe somebody's
- 15:05Speaker 2: mechanic likes boxing, so they brought him into those showcases.
- 15:08Speaker 2: No disrespect, you know, I'm glad that he got into
- 15:10Speaker 2: the ring. Ticks balls, but you know that's the kind
- 15:12Speaker 2: of things that I've seen light before. This This one
- 15:15Speaker 2: gonna be on ESPN Legit Pro fight and I'm stoked.
- 15:19Speaker 2: So h yeah, what did you think of the last?
- 15:21Speaker 2: All this about the fight?
- 15:23Speaker 3: So I need I need a refresher because my memory
- 15:27Speaker 3: is Tuesday and it's been a lot going on. I
- 15:29Speaker 3: don't need the refresher. But before we get to that,
- 15:33Speaker 3: you're going as a fan or you covering the fight.
- 15:36Speaker 2: As a fan? I will come back and discuss, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 2: anything interesting, But I don't actually I'm an nubie at this,
- 15:44Speaker 2: so I don't actually know what it means to cover.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I'm not talking to anybody in the know. I got, so.
- 15:50Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna give you some tips. When you
- 15:52Speaker 3: cover a fight, you get obviously get access to the fight,
- 15:56Speaker 3: You're gonna get free parking, and you get free food.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Sud I do that they usually feed so next time
- 16:02Speaker 3: you want the next to the fight in Phoenix, let
- 16:04Speaker 3: us know. We'll fell the credential form and get you
- 16:07Speaker 3: set up that way, especially since you have a podcast
- 16:10Speaker 3: now talking about boxing. That's the first thing. Now you
- 16:12Speaker 3: can't actively for fighters, but you can get that set
- 16:16Speaker 3: up for you. Also, most people, a lot of people
- 16:19Speaker 3: who do cover the fights are not media members either,
- 16:22Speaker 3: Like a lot of people will portray that media members,
- 16:24Speaker 3: but they're not. They're there to watch the fights, un
- 16:26Speaker 3: chill and whatnot and watch the fight at a close range.
- 16:29Speaker 3: So just giving you a heads up going forward, we
- 16:33Speaker 3: will try to get a credential to make things work
- 16:35Speaker 3: and make things easier for you so you can watch
- 16:38Speaker 3: the fight, meet people, all that good stuff and grow
- 16:41Speaker 3: the brand and get that experience. Because I think going
- 16:45Speaker 3: as a fan is cool because once you go as
- 16:47Speaker 3: a fan, what ends up taking place is this, You're
- 16:51Speaker 3: in it, you're drinking, you're having fun, you're watching the fan,
- 16:54Speaker 3: and you covering. You can still have your own drinks,
- 16:56Speaker 3: and I wouldn't suggest drinking there while you're in the
- 16:59Speaker 3: press area, but you can still. You know, if you
- 17:02Speaker 3: can put something in a different cut, you know you
- 17:04Speaker 3: can make it work. Well.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Yeah, in between matches.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly. With that being said, though, covering it,
- 17:11Speaker 3: your perspective is different, right, So you're watching the fight,
- 17:15Speaker 3: you're trying to see the why, why is this happening?
- 17:18Speaker 3: Why does that happening? But I'm also looking at the atmosphere.
- 17:21Speaker 3: You're looking at the stadium. So I think those things
- 17:24Speaker 3: would work very well for you going forward and give
- 17:27Speaker 3: you different perspectives on both. But I think going to
- 17:30Speaker 3: the fight is dope. I think Phoenix is an interesting
- 17:32Speaker 3: place because you do have a very very big population
- 17:37Speaker 3: of people who do like boxing, but it's on the
- 17:39Speaker 3: West coast. You have Vegas in LA so it doesn't
- 17:41Speaker 3: get mentioned like that. But I don't think it's a
- 17:43Speaker 3: bad idea, and hopefully going forward after this one, you
- 17:46Speaker 3: will be able to cover a fight.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Oh man, I love to I So I'm the classy
- 17:50Speaker 2: alcoholic because I started a blog ten years ago writing
- 17:53Speaker 2: about craft beer, you know, independent craft breweries, and I
- 17:56Speaker 2: ended up getting invited to beer Fest every year around
- 18:00Speaker 2: Arizona and it was a lot of fun. So I
- 18:02Speaker 2: know a little bit about that life, but it's totally
- 18:04Speaker 2: different in a different aspect. So yeah, man, next time
- 18:08Speaker 2: that there's a fight, we're gonna make this as legit
- 18:10Speaker 2: as possible because the classy alcoholic is the newest member
- 18:12Speaker 2: of your sports media.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Baby, that's right. We gotta go to the brands, so
- 18:16Speaker 3: we got we gotta go to things like that. Hell,
- 18:18Speaker 3: even some fights in Vegas, like there's there's a certain fights
- 18:21Speaker 3: you're probably not gonna be able to get to you, right,
- 18:22Speaker 3: So here's to here's the tip. If you wanted to
- 18:25Speaker 3: go see Canelo, right, if you wanted to go see
- 18:27Speaker 3: the Canelo fight fights in May or September, the issue
- 18:33Speaker 3: is this, you'll probably get to prove for a Credentially,
- 18:35Speaker 3: there's a good chance you would. However, you'd be watching
- 18:37Speaker 3: from way way up, so the experience isn't really that
- 18:40Speaker 3: cool in my opinion, I think that's kind of a
- 18:42Speaker 3: waste of time. However, there's other fights where you'll be
- 18:45Speaker 3: in the press area, get to watch the fight, get
- 18:48Speaker 3: to enjoy, get to talk to people, meet people. It's
- 18:50Speaker 3: not a bad situation. So I just think that every
- 18:53Speaker 3: situation is what it is. But be able to cover
- 18:55Speaker 3: a fight, especially if you're not gonna have a lot
- 18:57Speaker 3: of boxing media act just in general, that's a pretty
- 19:01Speaker 3: good idea. So that's something to keep in mind. But however,
- 19:04Speaker 3: you know, we you know, obviously Neverette did win the
- 19:08Speaker 3: first fight. I believe he's favored in this one as well,
- 19:12Speaker 3: not mistaken. Yeah, yeah, that's always interesting because normally, well
- 19:19Speaker 3: not interesting, that's no, is the norm whenever a fighter
- 19:21Speaker 3: was the first one, unless something crazy happened like a
- 19:24Speaker 3: DQ or anything like that, that's normally the case of
- 19:28Speaker 3: rematch as well. However, things could change, and that's why
- 19:31Speaker 3: that's why we're here. That's where you're going to the fight.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Sure, I mean Nava won by decision in the last one.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I think that was very well deserved. For those of
- 19:39Speaker 2: you who don't know, means the Cowboy, that's his nickname.
- 19:44Speaker 2: He has a fight style that is I guess the
- 19:46Speaker 2: word would be disorienting. He's got long arms, long reach.
- 19:50Speaker 2: He's at first he looks like he's not graceful. He
- 19:53Speaker 2: swings wildly, but when do you watch closely, the man
- 19:57Speaker 2: has some killer accuracy too, so he's not just getting
- 20:00Speaker 2: out there, you know, flailing. It might look like that
- 20:03Speaker 2: right off the bat, but him, but also him and
- 20:06Speaker 2: Oscar al Valdez, they're tough as hell, so they are
- 20:10Speaker 2: warriors the brawlers, and they can take some serious punishment
- 20:13Speaker 2: and keep fighting. So the issue in the last fight
- 20:15Speaker 2: is that Oscar Valdez was not prepared for Navadata style,
- 20:19Speaker 2: and he admits it. You know, he says he it
- 20:22Speaker 2: just caught him off guard literally in a couple of
- 20:24Speaker 2: times with those uppercuts. But he says, you know, he's
- 20:27Speaker 2: gonna he's gonna learn from this, and he's a smart fighter.
- 20:31Speaker 2: I don't know if he has the uh, the skills
- 20:34Speaker 2: to pull it off. I mean, he's he's I just
- 20:37Speaker 2: hope he works really, really hard. But at the end
- 20:39Speaker 2: of the day, I think, oh, Navareta also he can
- 20:43Speaker 2: overwhelm you with a lot of punches really fast, and
- 20:46Speaker 2: Oscar wasn't let his hands go enough. I'd say it
- 20:50Speaker 2: was a blowout the last fight. So I'm very excited
- 20:52Speaker 2: now that Oscar kind of knows what to expect. Uh,
- 20:56Speaker 2: I'm no matter what, I am expecting hell of a
- 20:59Speaker 2: good time. Another thing, Oscar Valdes is kind of a
- 21:03Speaker 2: hometown hero. So I don't know if you know, but
- 21:05Speaker 2: he's from a city called Nogalis in the state of Sonora,
- 21:08Speaker 2: which is right across the border from US. Yeah, So
- 21:11Speaker 2: if I'm in twoson Arizona, if I get into a
- 21:13Speaker 2: car from where I am right now in my super
- 21:15Speaker 2: secret podcasting bunker and I head south, I could be
- 21:17Speaker 2: an Oscar's hometown in one hour. So as you can imagine,
- 21:21Speaker 2: there's be a lot there's a lot of Sonoran Mexicans
- 21:24Speaker 2: in Arizona period, and there's gonna be a lot of
- 21:26Speaker 2: his fans at this fight. So this is gonna be
- 21:29Speaker 2: a Valdez crowd. Uh, even that nav is from like
- 21:32Speaker 2: more central Mexico, closer to Mexico City. So this in
- 21:37Speaker 2: itself is kind of a mixed company fight. Because even
- 21:40Speaker 2: if I'm rooting for Nevada the Wind, if I think
- 21:42Speaker 2: he's gonna win, I'm not gonna be that loud. I'm
- 21:45Speaker 2: just gonna be enjoying the good time. But I'm not
- 21:47Speaker 2: gonna he's gonna get booed by the crowd, you know,
- 21:49Speaker 2: in in in a in a cool way, you know,
- 21:53Speaker 2: in a they'll be enjoying the fight. They're not gonna
- 21:56Speaker 2: be actually they don't actually hate him, but it's this crowd.
- 22:00Speaker 2: It's going to be four Valdez. So you know, I
- 22:02Speaker 2: don't know I at the end of the day. I
- 22:05Speaker 2: think it's gonna be a great match. But let's see,
- 22:08Speaker 2: the point I'm trying to make is that maybe I
- 22:11Speaker 2: will be as vocal with my support for So what.
- 22:15Speaker 3: That being said? So, is no Gallus that our closer
- 22:17Speaker 3: to Phoenix or is it our further away from where you're.
- 22:21Speaker 2: At further away? No, Gallles is south of me right
- 22:24Speaker 2: now and then and now hour forty five north.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Got it? So you so you were saying that's what
- 22:28Speaker 3: three for Phoenix basically.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, okay, which is which is not a lot
- 22:34Speaker 2: for you know, for folks that want to come across
- 22:36Speaker 2: the word who live here and want to come across
- 22:38Speaker 2: the border to support their guy.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, Plus it's uh it's weekend, so people gonna
- 22:43Speaker 3: make that trip. Like that's that makes a lot of sense.
- 22:46Speaker 3: That that makes a lot of sense. Like right now,
- 22:48Speaker 3: the book has it, well, it's the Station Casino books.
- 22:51Speaker 3: So sorry, we don't have fand or DraftKings yet, but
- 22:54Speaker 3: Station Casino has never read at a mayas two point fifty.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I mean you gotta put up two hundred and fifty bucks.
- 22:59Speaker 3: One hundred and then Valdez is plus through ten, meaning
- 23:02Speaker 3: if you bet one hundred dollars, you get plus two
- 23:05Speaker 3: and ten back plus one hundred, So that is the line.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Do you think that line is fair? I think so. Yeah.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I think that Navadata has been the favorite for a
- 23:15Speaker 2: long time, you know, to be the next big boxing superstar. Well,
- 23:18Speaker 2: this is a good fighter, don't get me wrong, but
- 23:20Speaker 2: he's never really had that stardom. I think. Again, the
- 23:24Speaker 2: fans here in Arizona are for him one hundred percent.
- 23:28Speaker 2: But yeah, I think he's he's also getting older, but again,
- 23:34Speaker 2: you know what, Navadata is not unbeatable. So he took
- 23:37Speaker 2: his first l in May of this year against the
- 23:39Speaker 2: Ukrainian fighter named Dennis Burnschick Burnschick, Sorry about fie, mispronounced that,
- 23:45Speaker 2: But coincidentally the fight was the same day that Alexander
- 23:48Speaker 2: Russik beat Tyson furious. So it was a great day
- 23:50Speaker 2: for the people of Ukraine all around, right, right, But yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 2: it's clear Oscar wasn't ready in the last fight. I
- 23:57Speaker 2: don't know. If if I wanted to bet on the winner,
- 24:01Speaker 2: I would bet.
- 24:02Speaker 3: On ele Okay, good to know, good to know. How
- 24:07Speaker 3: confident are you in doing so? Like if you had
- 24:09Speaker 3: to bet like one hundred dollars one thousand dollars.
- 24:13Speaker 2: With not a one thousand. I'll tell you that right now. Okay, okay,
- 24:17Speaker 2: unless I wanted to miss a car payment next month, but.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I mean, you go. So here's the thing with cars,
- 24:22Speaker 3: Like I work in the banking industry, so if anything
- 24:25Speaker 3: ever funny happens, you can have them push your payment
- 24:27Speaker 3: back to get it on the back end of the loan.
- 24:29Speaker 3: So just like this, fy you know how you know,
- 24:31Speaker 3: just just you know, just a heads up.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Look at all the things that people who are learning
- 24:35Speaker 2: listening to this show. This is great man, not just
- 24:37Speaker 2: about sports, not just about boxing, but you know, life
- 24:40Speaker 2: lessons here. We're basically sports life coaches. Jim, absolutely, But no,
- 24:44Speaker 2: I mean I here's the thing about sports betting, which
- 24:47Speaker 2: I have done, you know, because I do live the
- 24:49Speaker 2: degenerate life, you know, in most ways, I have rules
- 24:53Speaker 2: about betting. So I only bet on boxing because it's
- 24:56Speaker 2: a sport. I know, I only bet on fighters that
- 24:59Speaker 2: I want to win. But also if the odds are
- 25:02Speaker 2: too high favored, I'm not gonna put a lot of
- 25:05Speaker 2: money in. Like you said, I gotta put in two
- 25:06Speaker 2: fifty to win one hundred.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Is that what it is? Yeah?
- 25:10Speaker 2: So one hundred you have to put up two hundred
- 25:11Speaker 2: fifty bucks. Yes, yeah, so I would rather bet on
- 25:15Speaker 2: the underdog. But if I really really believed he would win.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Okay, So in this.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Case, I don't feel that strongly about Oscar's chances to
- 25:23Speaker 2: put money on him. If I did, I'd put up
- 25:25Speaker 2: one hundred bucks, one hundred and fifty like right now. Okay,
- 25:29Speaker 2: So I need to keep myself in like a box
- 25:32Speaker 2: with some rules here or else. Who knows what could happen?
- 25:36Speaker 3: Got it? Got it?
- 25:38Speaker 2: But yeah, but the same thing. Also, I'm never gonna
- 25:40Speaker 2: get a bet on a fighter that I really don't
- 25:42Speaker 2: want to win, which means I'm betting on either the
- 25:44Speaker 2: brown guy or the black guy. Let's just be honest
- 25:46Speaker 2: about that. And if I think, if I think the
- 25:48Speaker 2: white guy's gonna win, I just won't bet. I really,
- 25:50Speaker 2: I just won't do it. I'll walk away. I understand,
- 25:52Speaker 2: I understand. Speaking of Oscar Beldes, did you see his
- 25:57Speaker 2: fight against Jack Curs Stephenson that was in April?
- 26:01Speaker 3: That was a while ago. I believe it was on ESPN.
- 26:08Speaker 3: There was Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, was that the fight?
- 26:15Speaker 3: Was there a girl? Was there? A girlfriend? Or a
- 26:17Speaker 3: sibling involved.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Is Shaker Stevenson proposed to his girlfriend at the end
- 26:21Speaker 2: of the.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Night, and is it his girlfriend that wasn't someone related
- 26:26Speaker 3: to involve. I thought that was something weird where I
- 26:31Speaker 3: thought the girlfriend was lated to volve that it was
- 26:33Speaker 3: something weird like that. If I'm not mistaken that part,
- 26:35Speaker 3: I don't have to look at that interesting something in
- 26:39Speaker 3: relationship regarding to that.
- 26:40Speaker 2: No, I don't know anything about that. But yeah, that
- 26:43Speaker 2: that fight. That fight I saw at a sports bar
- 26:45Speaker 2: in town here in Tucson called the Neighborhood. It's an
- 26:47Speaker 2: awesome spot. Shout out to them. If good drinks, good food.
- 26:51Speaker 2: It is definitely a Mexican crowd and it's deep in
- 26:53Speaker 2: the ghetto. So if y'all go there, you should go there,
- 26:55Speaker 2: but just don't fuck around because you will get stabbed.
- 26:57Speaker 2: And if you see people doing coke in the bathroom, no.
- 26:59Speaker 3: You didn't, Okay, fair enough.
- 27:01Speaker 2: I mean that rule applies anywhere, but especially at the neighborhood.
- 27:05Speaker 2: I'm not just making that scenario up. Just you know,
- 27:08Speaker 2: I'm not just imagining potential scenarios that haven't actually happened.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Things didn't get too rowdy that night on the abal
- 27:15Speaker 2: this Stevenson fight, but you could feel the excitement gradually
- 27:19Speaker 2: died down in the place as the fight went on. Now,
- 27:21Speaker 2: were there racial slurs toward black people being thrown around
- 27:24Speaker 2: in Spanish? I didn't hear any, but I would bet
- 27:26Speaker 2: a lot of money that it did happen that night.
- 27:30Speaker 2: The odds on that you probably had to put down
- 27:32Speaker 2: five rats just to.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Get like ten bucks back. To be honest with you, Yeah,
- 27:34Speaker 3: you know, I remember the far remember watching the fight.
- 27:37Speaker 3: I actually remember watching it with people here people, there's
- 27:40Speaker 3: some people over that night. Ironically we're drinking jamison. But
- 27:45Speaker 3: that being said, I do remember it was one sided.
- 27:48Speaker 3: It was Yeah, I do remember that. But with that
- 27:52Speaker 3: being said, yeah, the mixed company. So there is no
- 27:55Speaker 3: way possible added respect to the neighborhood, added respect to
- 27:58Speaker 3: Tucson out of what that situation. And it's no offense
- 28:01Speaker 3: to anyone. But it's just a no win situation. Right.
- 28:04Speaker 3: So let's say it is a black and brown fight.
- 28:08Speaker 3: As a black person, you can't win in that. There's
- 28:11Speaker 3: nothing good that happens here. There's nothing good. So if
- 28:15Speaker 3: the brown fighter wins, it's ninety five percent greatness and
- 28:21Speaker 3: everybody's happy, and then I'm sad. It's the other way,
- 28:24Speaker 3: the numbers of the mad bad mad. It's just not
- 28:27Speaker 3: gonna work. I've done that before, not gonna happen again.
- 28:31Speaker 2: So I went undercover because I actually wanted chick or
- 28:34Speaker 2: Stevenson to win, because that's when he was at top. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:37Speaker 2: I was therapy.
- 28:38Speaker 4: I was yeah, it was like Chicker Stevens in Yeah, yay, awesome.
- 28:43Speaker 4: I hope both fighters have fun. But I really didn't
- 28:45Speaker 4: want him to win because I was a fan of
- 28:47Speaker 4: really on you. I forget the first fight I saw.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Him, and but it was it was during the rona
- 28:52Speaker 2: when there were no crowds, and god, I wish I
- 28:54Speaker 2: remember who he thought? Ye he he just dominated, you know,
- 28:57Speaker 2: beginning to end. I thought the guys skill were on point.
- 29:00Speaker 2: So I thought, oh, he's gonna fight like a fighter
- 29:03Speaker 2: that people are gonna come out to see in my town.
- 29:04Speaker 2: That's great. But it was in the neighborhood who I
- 29:08Speaker 2: actually went to see Canelo versus Kayla plant at the
- 29:11Speaker 2: neighborhood with with their producer your Bari and also two
- 29:14Speaker 2: of our white friends, Adam and Brent. Shot at y'all,
- 29:19Speaker 2: and I set them down and I was like, if
- 29:21Speaker 2: anybody asks you you are routine for Canelo, do not
- 29:25Speaker 2: say anything different. Don't say I don't know, I don't care,
- 29:27Speaker 2: say Canelo. And they were like, got you, got you?
- 29:30Speaker 2: So just just to make sure that everybody.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Was going to say, do you, I got what you
- 29:33Speaker 3: gotta do. I mean, here's the thing. You got lives
- 29:36Speaker 3: about choices right now. If you want problems, and you
- 29:39Speaker 3: can choose problems, but it's probably best to make the
- 29:42Speaker 3: smart decision.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Sure, and at the end of they always do that,
- 29:46Speaker 2: but especially don't choose problems at the neighborhood.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it feels like I said, I've never
- 29:52Speaker 3: been to Tucson. I've heard stories. I know it's very
- 29:55Speaker 3: big on the University of Arizona. I know a lot
- 29:56Speaker 3: of people love you of a. I know I can
- 29:59Speaker 3: assume when it's boxing time. I can assume what time
- 30:03Speaker 3: it is, so and that makes sense.
- 30:05Speaker 2: It's a cool town, don't get me wrong. And you
- 30:06Speaker 2: know the the boxing fans come out. There's not a
- 30:09Speaker 2: huge crowd.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Oh.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Actually, that Canelo plant fight was wild. You could barely
- 30:15Speaker 2: move in that sports bar.
- 30:17Speaker 3: It was so packed.
- 30:18Speaker 2: It's the most packed I've ever seen it and when
- 30:21Speaker 2: he won, the place went so wild, Like my ears
- 30:24Speaker 2: were ringing for hours afterwards.
- 30:27Speaker 3: But it was closet fight. It wasn't like it was
- 30:29Speaker 3: gonna be hot. You know, it wasn't gonna be a
- 30:30Speaker 3: situation where he almost lost. It was gonna be what
- 30:33Speaker 3: it was gonna be.
- 30:34Speaker 2: It doesn't matter. We saw him knock plant out and
- 30:37Speaker 2: it was exciting as how. There was this one there
- 30:40Speaker 2: was this one circular booth that probably sat like ten people,
- 30:44Speaker 2: and there were easily thirty people sitting in and around
- 30:49Speaker 2: on the go the ledge there. It was wild and
- 30:54Speaker 2: you know, bottle service left and right.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Uh, it was.
- 30:58Speaker 2: It was a good time. We our producer to Brian Davis,
- 31:01Speaker 2: will tell you we had a great time. And then
- 31:03Speaker 2: everybody was well behaved. Another another story about the Neighborhood.
- 31:07Speaker 2: After another Canalo fight, I was talking to uh to
- 31:10Speaker 2: a dude in a boxing class, but actually he asked
- 31:13Speaker 2: me if I saw the fight, and I said, yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 2: I went to this sports bar in the ghetto. It's
- 31:18Speaker 2: called the Neighborhood. It's on thirty six. He cuts me
- 31:20Speaker 2: off and he says, I used to.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Be a cop.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I know exactly where the neighborhood is oh okay, So
- 31:27Speaker 2: that's just But they make Austome meach a lot as
- 31:30Speaker 2: Austin margaritas.
- 31:31Speaker 3: So and how the food, how the food house, the specials.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Like all the the food is probably the best bar
- 31:37Speaker 2: food you're gonna get.
- 31:40Speaker 3: You know.
- 31:40Speaker 2: They have maybe sat wings on Tuesdays, they have giant margaritas.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Man, I can't say enough good things about the place.
- 31:47Speaker 2: But just just chill, you know, go there to have
- 31:49Speaker 2: a good time and just don't start any trouble. That's
- 31:51Speaker 2: all I'll say.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Fair enough, fair enough.
- 31:54Speaker 2: So yeah, but anyway, back to back to Saturday. You know,
- 31:59Speaker 2: I love I got about this. Like I said, he's
- 32:01Speaker 2: a hometown hero. I'm rooting for him to have a
- 32:04Speaker 2: great fight. But he's a warrior man. He puts it
- 32:07Speaker 2: all on the line, I don't. I think if he
- 32:08Speaker 2: loses again, it's not going to be because he coasted.
- 32:11Speaker 2: It's not going to be because he didn't put it
- 32:13Speaker 2: all out there. So and I think I think that's
- 32:17Speaker 2: what really where the respect comes from for that guy.
- 32:20Speaker 2: You know, he he doesn't back down, he doesn't shy away,
- 32:22Speaker 2: doesn't run. He is there for a war. And I'm
- 32:28Speaker 2: expecting to have a great time. Plus it's could be
- 32:30Speaker 2: a shitload of drug Mexicans, including this one. So tune
- 32:32Speaker 2: in to ESPN Saturday night. Maybe you'll see me getting
- 32:37Speaker 2: kicked out getting eighty six from the Footprint Center. I
- 32:39Speaker 2: don't know, I will do it.
- 32:45Speaker 3: You could. You can't do that, now, that's true. You're right.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I'm a I'm a responsible sports commentator.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Now yeah do that now, so got some sense and
- 32:53Speaker 3: make it happen.
- 32:54Speaker 2: But yeah, but definitely I recommend you watch that fight.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Like I said, regularly, I say ESPN on Saturday night,
- 33:00Speaker 2: check it out. And the other fights on the main
- 33:03Speaker 2: card are gonna be exciting as well. So definitely, I
- 33:05Speaker 2: can't wait. I can't wait for this weekend and I
- 33:07Speaker 2: can't wait to talk about it when we get back
- 33:08Speaker 2: to our next episode.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Nice, nice, very and I can't wait. I can't wait.
- 33:13Speaker 2: So shall we move on to the next segment. This
- 33:17Speaker 2: is our recurring pop Pugilism segment, in which we discuss
- 33:21Speaker 2: a boxing movie, TV show, documentary whatever it is. Oh
- 33:24Speaker 2: and jameson, I've already heard from a listener that she
- 33:27Speaker 2: learned what the word pugilism means from listening to this show.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Oh wow.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Again, we're not just doing this, We're not only
- 33:33Speaker 2: doing this for the bag, which we are, but we're
- 33:35Speaker 2: also here to make a difference in people's lives and
- 33:37Speaker 2: educate our listeners.
- 33:38Speaker 3: So say T words, ain't it so? Yeah? You got yeah?
- 33:41Speaker 3: Nah it sounds like T I like, yeah, nope, nope.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So for today's entry, I have a question. Have you
- 33:50Speaker 2: ever tried to go online to watch a movie and
- 33:52Speaker 2: then realize a few minutes after you start watching it
- 33:54Speaker 2: that you downloaded the wrong file? Maybe it's a movie
- 33:56Speaker 2: with a similar lame or possibly the porno parody.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Fortunately it happens more often than I had like me too,
- 34:04Speaker 3: like a couple times a week, come from the movie. Also,
- 34:06Speaker 3: when you download movies and watch torrents all that, sometimes
- 34:10Speaker 3: you download one thing, he gets something else. So like
- 34:13Speaker 3: you watch somef early like friends, it's all fire sticks
- 34:15Speaker 3: and stuff. Sometimes you can get ready to get a
- 34:17Speaker 3: link and it ain't what you won't like. It's totally
- 34:20Speaker 3: different and you not sometimes a little way too different,
- 34:23Speaker 3: if you know what I'm saying. And that's not that's
- 34:25Speaker 3: an away game. We do not do those.
- 34:27Speaker 2: It's a risk we take in this life. Yeah, but yeah,
- 34:30Speaker 2: that's kind of what happened to me. This week. I
- 34:32Speaker 2: try to watch Gladiator from two thousand starring Russell Crowe.
- 34:35Speaker 2: It's becoming popular again because the sequel has been crushing
- 34:37Speaker 2: it at the box office last weekend. But it turns
- 34:39Speaker 2: out there's a whole ass other movie called Gladiator from
- 34:41Speaker 2: nineteen eighty two, and it's about boxing. Did you know
- 34:44Speaker 2: have you have you heard of this?
- 34:45Speaker 3: I've heard of the movie, I've not seen it. I've
- 34:48Speaker 3: heard of the movie.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Well, we're gonna talk about it because it's directed by
- 34:51Speaker 2: Rowdy Harrington, who also directed Roadhouse, which is one of
- 34:54Speaker 2: the coolest movies ever made. So I was actually excited
- 34:56Speaker 2: about this one. I was calling him Rowdy Roddy Harrington
- 34:59Speaker 2: the whole time. So it starts this guy named James
- 35:02Speaker 2: James Marshall, who I'd never heard of. I haven't seen
- 35:04Speaker 2: Twin Peaks, but apparently he's an important part of that show.
- 35:08Speaker 2: He looks almost exactly like a baby Dolph Lungdren or
- 35:12Speaker 2: a skinny Brian Bosworth.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Wow, that's a name.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Remember the bass?
- 35:16Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 35:16Speaker 2: Do you have you seen Stone Cold one? Have you
- 35:20Speaker 2: seen the bass action movie called Stone Cold nineteen ninety one,
- 35:26Speaker 2: he goes undercover in a biker gang.
- 35:29Speaker 3: No, no, I'm not.
- 35:31Speaker 2: That is a five star action movie.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I gotta tell you.
- 35:35Speaker 2: It is the crazy one of the craziest action movies
- 35:38Speaker 2: I've ever seen and record. We're not talking about that movie,
- 35:42Speaker 2: but strong recommend on Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth. Please
- 35:46Speaker 2: check it out. Make sure to download the right Stone
- 35:49Speaker 2: Cold file and you know, and end up with some records.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Yeah, man, Like I say, it's very important that you
- 35:54Speaker 3: make sure. Yeah, because your thing, you can intend to
- 35:57Speaker 3: download the right thing. You just have no idea what's
- 35:59Speaker 3: in that file. That's the big issue I have is
- 36:02Speaker 3: my intentions are always good. It's the other people's intentions
- 36:05Speaker 3: that create this out. That's the problem.
- 36:09Speaker 2: You know what makes me think of I'm never as
- 36:12Speaker 2: anxious during those first five seconds when I don't know
- 36:15Speaker 2: if I'm going to be listening to wear Wolves of
- 36:16Speaker 2: London or kid fucking rock Man. You know what I'm
- 36:20Speaker 2: talking about?
- 36:21Speaker 3: That bad Sometimes you'll click on something it is not
- 36:25Speaker 3: which you want to see, and you don't want to
- 36:28Speaker 3: see certain things. I'll leave it at that. And sometimes
- 36:31Speaker 3: your intentions are pure. Sometimes just for the movie you
- 36:34Speaker 3: intended and somebody's trying to play games with you. I
- 36:37Speaker 3: don't like those kind of games.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Well, in this one, you're either going to get Russell
- 36:41Speaker 2: Crowe or James Marshall and Cuba Gooding Jr.
- 36:44Speaker 3: So those are good actors. Those are solid line up.
- 36:47Speaker 2: No Cuba Gooding Junior. For some reason, he plays a
- 36:50Speaker 2: character named Abraham Lincoln Hayes. I don't know what that's about,
- 36:54Speaker 2: but the story is so. James Marshall is Tommy Riley.
- 36:58Speaker 2: He's supposed to be a teenager in high school, but
- 37:00Speaker 2: he looks thirty five. One of the least believable teenagers
- 37:03Speaker 2: I've seen in my life. He moves to the South
- 37:05Speaker 2: side of Chicago from a nice area to like a
- 37:08Speaker 2: black and brown school right because his dad, who is
- 37:12Speaker 2: Kevin's dad from home alone, John Hurd, he gets into
- 37:15Speaker 2: some serious gambling debts. Speaking of the degenerate life, the
- 37:19Speaker 2: movie tells us his dad owes fifteen thousand dollars in
- 37:22Speaker 2: nineteen ninety two money to car Dricks.
- 37:24Speaker 3: That's a lot.
- 37:25Speaker 2: That's probably like seventy five bands today.
- 37:26Speaker 3: I like that a lot. How does that have definitely dying? Well, yeah,
- 37:29Speaker 3: it's not so.
- 37:31Speaker 2: The kid Tommy Riley. He gets recruited into an illegal
- 37:34Speaker 2: underground boxing circuit by Robert Loje, who sees him fending
- 37:37Speaker 2: off some gang members in Nelly. Timmy needs to help
- 37:40Speaker 2: pay his degenerate dad's loan, so he agrees to find
- 37:43Speaker 2: one match. But he's so good that evil Brian Denahey,
- 37:47Speaker 2: who runs the operation, buys his dad's debts, forces Tommy
- 37:50Speaker 2: to pay them off by fighting, and Cuba is a
- 37:54Speaker 2: friend of his from school who also fights in the circuit,
- 37:56Speaker 2: and drama ensues.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Got it.
- 37:59Speaker 2: So the movie is not good let's start there, but
- 38:01Speaker 2: it is pretty fun. I gotta tell you. You know,
- 38:02Speaker 2: the fights in the movie look kind of terrible. They
- 38:05Speaker 2: everyone just kind of throws swinging hooks and nobody remembers
- 38:07Speaker 2: to keep their damn hands up. It's like, do you
- 38:11Speaker 2: remember end of Karate Kid Part two when Daniel beats
- 38:14Speaker 2: Chosen with a drum technique which is just leugh punch
- 38:17Speaker 2: and a right punch over and over and like for
- 38:19Speaker 2: some reason, Chosen doesn't think to block, dodge, or counter right.
- 38:24Speaker 2: So that's basically how people win those boxing matches.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Also, fifteen ran in ninety two is now thirty three
- 38:31Speaker 3: thousand seven hundred and forty eight dollars a two cents.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Do not forget the eighty two cents in today's money.
- 38:37Speaker 2: That's actually a less than I thought, to be quite honest,
- 38:39Speaker 2: SA same, I thought it would be at least double that.
- 38:43Speaker 2: But that's how deep in the hole John Hurd.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Is in this movie.
- 38:48Speaker 2: But I think the biggest travesty in this in this
- 38:50Speaker 2: dumb movie, is that it thinks it's saying something about
- 38:53Speaker 2: race relations. So Robert Loja needs James Marshall to fight
- 38:57Speaker 2: and says explicitly that he needs a white fighter because
- 39:00Speaker 2: this last white guy you know, got injured or whatever.
- 39:03Speaker 2: James Marshall and Cuba bond with each other. In Cuba
- 39:05Speaker 2: says something like poverty is a black disease and James
- 39:07Speaker 2: Marshall is all dope on it, as if they're both
- 39:10Speaker 2: victims of a capital system built on systemic racism, and
- 39:13Speaker 2: not the fact that John Hurd, from home alone, doesn't
- 39:15Speaker 2: know when to get help for his gambling addiction. I
- 39:18Speaker 2: think the movie wants you to think it wants to
- 39:21Speaker 2: invoke some sort of like racial harmony by showing that
- 39:23Speaker 2: both white and black people could be taken advantage of
- 39:26Speaker 2: by the rich and corrupt, which is true, don't get
- 39:28Speaker 2: me wrong, but this is like kids bop race relations
- 39:31Speaker 2: and it's just not the right movie for that kind
- 39:33Speaker 2: of message. Fair enough, but it is fun. You know,
- 39:38Speaker 2: the fights are not super well choreographed, but they're still
- 39:40Speaker 2: pretty brutal. And if you're looking for a movie with
- 39:44Speaker 2: dudes just kidding fucked up, real good, this movie does
- 39:47Speaker 2: have that.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Did it age well? It aged better than.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Most things from that era. I'm gonna say that right now.
- 39:55Speaker 2: There's not a lot of you know, racial slurs. There's
- 39:58Speaker 2: not a lot of you know, there's race relations in
- 40:01Speaker 2: the movie, but it's not overtly racist. I think it's
- 40:05Speaker 2: more like racially ignorant, you know, points for it for
- 40:09Speaker 2: trying something like this and saying, you know, poverty affects black, white,
- 40:14Speaker 2: and brown people the same. You know, it's a kind
- 40:17Speaker 2: of disease. But like I said, not this movie, man,
- 40:19Speaker 2: not this movie.
- 40:20Speaker 3: But it's fun.
- 40:21Speaker 2: And you know, I'm I've said before, I'm a movie buff.
- 40:25Speaker 2: I love films, I love going to the theater. I
- 40:27Speaker 2: hate do hate to be that guy. But when it
- 40:28Speaker 2: comes to action movies, they really don't make them like
- 40:30Speaker 2: they used to. So too much CGI these days, not
- 40:34Speaker 2: enough stunts. You know, at the very least you know
- 40:37Speaker 2: you've got stunt guys getting tossed around. And also you
- 40:41Speaker 2: know what really aged well, Big fat Brian Dennehy uppercuts
- 40:45Speaker 2: someone so hard they fly over the ropes and out
- 40:50Speaker 2: of the rig. That aged well. So so yeah, I'd
- 40:55Speaker 2: say overall this movie is like out of four Gloves,
- 40:58Speaker 2: which is our rating that we do here, like two
- 41:00Speaker 2: and a half, two and a half cloffs, not bad,
- 41:03Speaker 2: not bad. So yeah. So if you after you watch
- 41:06Speaker 2: Russell Crowe and watch Paul mescal and Gladiator two, why
- 41:10Speaker 2: don't you watch a third Gladiator and check out this
- 41:12Speaker 2: one from Roddy Harrington.
- 41:15Speaker 3: That works, That works awesome.
- 41:18Speaker 2: So last segment, ready for this, yep, it's our mailbag segment.
- 41:24Speaker 2: So I got a question here from Adam l Adam,
- 41:29Speaker 2: thank you for writing. Don't worry, nobody's taking an l
- 41:32Speaker 2: on this show today. The question is how much money
- 41:37Speaker 2: would you need to be paid to get into the
- 41:39Speaker 2: ring with your favorite fighter? And this one was easy
- 41:43Speaker 2: for me. I got an I came up with an
- 41:44Speaker 2: answer right away.
- 41:44Speaker 3: But I mean getting the ring to do what like
- 41:47Speaker 3: to fight like? And we're talking about a flow around fight.
- 41:50Speaker 2: That you have and you have Let's say, let's say
- 41:55Speaker 2: this favorite living fighter, so you can pick any living
- 41:58Speaker 2: fighter that that's your fave. Uh So it can be
- 42:00Speaker 2: somebody who's really head gear involved. Yes, because you're an
- 42:05Speaker 2: amateur headgears involved. Let's call it five rounds, five rounds.
- 42:10Speaker 2: You name your bag five rounds as my friend, nothing,
- 42:14Speaker 2: you're not no amount of money, we'll get you in
- 42:15Speaker 2: the ring.
- 42:16Speaker 3: I'll get in the ring. What I'm saying, five rounds
- 42:18Speaker 3: is a long time. Five three minute rounds is a
- 42:20Speaker 3: long time.
- 42:20Speaker 2: It is, it really is. Yeah, But if you want
- 42:23Speaker 2: to get paid that bag, which by the way you choose,
- 42:25Speaker 2: you gotta try. You don't just sit there, you know,
- 42:27Speaker 2: get like a light jab in the face and then
- 42:29Speaker 2: just go down.
- 42:30Speaker 3: I mean I would. I would fight Floyd because I
- 42:32Speaker 3: know he's he's gonna carry the fight. But I know
- 42:35Speaker 3: how it's opera, I know how this goes. I'm not
- 42:39Speaker 3: gonna get in the ring with someone that can do
- 42:41Speaker 3: that can put me in a r I'm gonna go
- 42:43Speaker 3: with Floor because we're both gonna understand the situation. So
- 42:46Speaker 3: I'm gonna take a couple million dollars, and I'm gonna
- 42:49Speaker 3: go on and do what we gotta do and enjoy
- 42:51Speaker 3: life happily and after.
- 42:53Speaker 2: But how much exactly do you need to get into
- 42:56Speaker 2: the ring with floor?
- 42:57Speaker 3: Oh, I need two million out of taxes off everything.
- 43:01Speaker 3: Make sure taxes are cool, make sure moms is cool,
- 43:03Speaker 3: make sure pops. Yeah, I need like two million after
- 43:06Speaker 3: taxes that take care everybody. I can be out the
- 43:09Speaker 3: way and we go on about life. You know, we
- 43:11Speaker 3: enjoy life the way it's supposed to be enjoyed.
- 43:14Speaker 2: That's actually surprid. I would have thought you'd said like
- 43:16Speaker 2: five for even ten.
- 43:17Speaker 3: You know, you're not.
- 43:18Speaker 2: You're not agreed, so.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Like taxes while you're looking at like closer to four.
- 43:22Speaker 3: So you know, so we we closed that one. Again.
- 43:25Speaker 3: It's Floyd though, so again I'm not even though he's
- 43:28Speaker 3: obviously the punches are gonna hurt, it's nowhere near like
- 43:30Speaker 3: getting in Well. I would never fight Tank, Yeah, arm Taelo.
- 43:35Speaker 3: That's dumb, like that's that's that's not what we signed
- 43:38Speaker 3: up for. This is a this thing, money making situation.
- 43:41Speaker 3: This is not a fight to prove who's the pregnant.
- 43:44Speaker 3: So I would pick somebody that hits light and Floyd
- 43:48Speaker 3: is my favorite living fighter, So that's what we would do.
- 43:51Speaker 3: And then yeah, that's how that's how it would go.
- 43:54Speaker 2: That's a good answer. Well my answer that I came
- 43:56Speaker 2: up with. And I am a dumb person. So I
- 43:58Speaker 2: would need three million dollars to get into the ring
- 44:00Speaker 2: with Canelo like tomorrow, and I'll tell you why. So
- 44:04Speaker 2: first of all, I know I would die in the ring.
- 44:06Speaker 2: I would go out in the blaze of glory, which
- 44:08Speaker 2: I'm fine with. And then my mom and two sisters
- 44:10Speaker 2: each get a million dollars and I'm cool with that
- 44:12Speaker 2: any I'm cool after taxes, of course, So what are
- 44:16Speaker 2: we looking at? Like bag is five? But leave those
- 44:18Speaker 2: million dollars to my mom and two sisters and I'll
- 44:21Speaker 2: be that guys like did you see that fact guy
- 44:23Speaker 2: get in the ring with Canelo and then got his
- 44:25Speaker 2: knocked off on his shoulders like John Rambo. Right, right,
- 44:29Speaker 2: So that's what it would take for me to get
- 44:31Speaker 2: into the ring last year tomorrow. No training, I don't
- 44:35Speaker 2: give a show.
- 44:35Speaker 3: I'll try.
- 44:36Speaker 2: I'll try, I'll you know, I'll try to bob and
- 44:38Speaker 2: weave and throw some some light punches. But right, but
- 44:42Speaker 2: we know how that's gonna turn out. Yeah, it's not
- 44:44Speaker 2: gonna work, but mom and sisters are gonna be taken
- 44:47Speaker 2: care of and that's all that matters, all right, Jameson,
- 44:52Speaker 2: I want to wrap it up. How do people find
- 44:54Speaker 2: you on social media? And it kill on Twitter at
- 44:57Speaker 2: V James and t H E E J M I E.
- 45:01Speaker 3: And that's the best place find me, interact, talk all
- 45:03Speaker 3: that good stuff. Always like answering questions, talking and meeting
- 45:06Speaker 3: new people.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Awesome find me the Classy Alcoholic on Instagram and Blue Sky.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Oh quick. Shout out to some podcasting brethren, some friends
- 45:16Speaker 2: of mine here in Tucson. They have a bad movie podcasts,
- 45:20Speaker 2: meaning they make fun of bad movies. It's called bad
- 45:23Speaker 2: Movies Worse People. They've had me on an episode talking
- 45:25Speaker 2: Passenger fifty seven last year. That's actually a great movie,
- 45:28Speaker 2: but we had a good time. And then more recently
