- 0:26SPEAKER_02: And nobody heard you.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, the Lord knows how to give us the peace and the hope that we need in these troublesome times and which we're in which we're living in now.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Praise God.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: He gives us that inner peace.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: That inner peace to carry us on through.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: I want to talk to you today about hope when my soul is down.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Hope when my soul is down.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: In Psalms 42 and 5 it says, Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Why art thou disquieted in me?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Hope thou in God, for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: And then you drop down to verse number 11.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: It says, Why thou cast down, O my soul?
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Why thou disquieted in me?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Hope thou in God, for thou shalt praise him, who is the health of my countenance and my God.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: So when the battle is inside, there are some battles people can't see.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: If the arm is broken, somebody can see the cast.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: If the leg is injured, somebody can see the limping.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: If you have been in an accident, somebody can see the damage.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: But some of the greatest battle people fight cannot be seen from the outside.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: You can look good and still be hurting.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: You can wear a uniform and still be hurting.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: You can carry a badge and still be hurting.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: You can wear a clergy collar and still be hurting.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: You can sing in the choir and still be hurting.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: You can be a police officer and still be hurting.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: You can preach to everybody else and still need somebody to preach to you.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: You can smile for the picture and cry when everybody goes home.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: And the psalmist asked himself, Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Notice where the problem is.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: He didn't say my body is down.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: He said my soul is down.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Sometimes the body gets out of bed, but the soul doesn't.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you go to work, but your soul is tired.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you come to church, but your soul is hurting.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you tell everybody I'm doing fine.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: While your soul is crying, somebody help me.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: But I love the psalm because the writer doesn't stop with while cast down.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: He tells himself, Hope God and God.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: That's the difference.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Even when we're going through all of this, we put our hope, our dependency, our trust, and God.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Life is a test and life is a trust.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: We will be tested in this life.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: But also in this life, we have to learn how to trust God.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Trust Him to bring you through whatever situation you might be facing.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Soul was hurting, but we're not quitting.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Soul is crying, but we're not giving up.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Soul, we don't understand, but we are going to keep trusting.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: So this is a dark chapter, but this is not the end of the story.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: The Bible tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not upon our own understanding.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: In all our ways acknowledge him.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: He will, hallelujah.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: He will direct our path.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Oh yes, he will.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: So point number one I want to bring out.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: When you're going through, acknowledge when your soul is hurting.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Acknowledge it.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Psalm 42 and 3, my tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: The psalmist he didn't pretend.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: He said, I've been crying.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Sometimes Christians have been taught that admitting emotional pain means that they don't have enough faith.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: But the Bible is filled with people who express deep emotional pain.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: David cried.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Job cried.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Jeremiah cried.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Elijah became discouraged, wanted to take his life.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Even Jesus himself wept.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: In John 11, 35.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Tears doesn't mean you have lost your faith.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: That's what we have to learn as believers.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: You know, in the faith movement, yeah, we teach it faith.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: But also we have to acknowledge when things, we we we when things are hurting us.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: I don't mean you have to go to a pity party to everybody, but you can acknowledge it to God.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: I'm hurting.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: You don't have to acknowledge it to everybody, but you can acknowledge to your God.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I am hurting.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: I need your help.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: And sometimes tears mean I've been caring too much for too long.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: If the warning light comes on in your automobile, you don't solve the problem by putting tape over the warning light.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, hallelujah.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: The light isn't your enemy.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: The light is telling you something needs attention.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Emotional pain can be a be like a warning light.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Don't ignore it.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Don't hide it.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Don't be ashamed of it.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Pay attention to what your soul is telling you.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: How you listening this morning?
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: I'm speaking to somebody that's going through some things.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Speaking of someone that just looked like you lost your hope.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe something might have happened.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: Maybe you might have been hurt.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: You might have been angry about the way that they treated you.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Maybe you lost a loved one that was very dear to you.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: And maybe you're just tired.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: And just need a rest.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Whatever the case may be.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Put your hope in God.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Point number two.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Don't believe everything your pain tells you.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: When people are hurting deeply, pain can distort their thinking.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Pain may say to you, you know, nobody cares.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Pain may say nobody would miss you.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Pain would say, I'm a burden.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Pain would say things would never get better.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Pain may say there's no way out.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: But feelings, although real, are not always reasonable description of your future.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: 42 and 5, Psalm 42, 5.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Why thou cast down, O my soul, while thou disquieted in me?
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Hope thou and God.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: The psalmist challenge what his emotion was telling him.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you have to tell yourself, I don't know how this is going to work out, but I'm staying.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: I don't know what tomorrow holds, but I'm staying.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: I don't feel strong right now, but I'm staying.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: I need help, and I'm going to get help.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Don't allow one terrible moment to convince you that your entire future would be terrible.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Sometimes that what the enemy does, he gets in our mind.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, hallelujah.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Nobody loves you, nobody cares.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: This, that, and the other.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: All the thoughts he can get to give to you to get you out of sync with God.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: But I have learned one thing.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: I have to take my burdens to the Lord and leave them with him.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: I talk to God.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Tell him about it.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: It's not wrong.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Tell him how you're feeling.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Well you're hurting, where you're pain.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: I'll be careful in telling everybody that.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: I don't tell everybody.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, some people it was like the the um the man that was getting ready to jump off of the bridge, right?
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: And the the uh other man saw him, so he went to talk to him, uh, you know, uh and try to convince the man not to jump off the bridge.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: Guess what happened after the man heard the guy's story to get ready to jump, he jumped off with it, and both of them jumped off together.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: That's why you gotta talk to the right people, you gotta be around the right people.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: You got the Bible lets us know, praise God, that we amen, uh, bear one another burdens.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: You know, you you you can talk and and and you talk with someone that can help you.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: That's what counseling is all about.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: Remember what God have already brought you through.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Remember that.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, hallelujah.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: In Psalm 42 and 6, oh my oh my God, my soul is cast down with me.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Therefore, I remember, I remember you from the land of Jordan and the Hermonites of the hill of Mysrah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Therefore will I remember you.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: When your soul went down, his memory memory went back.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Sometimes when you cannot see what God is doing ahead of you, you have to remember what God has already done for you behind you.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: Remember the doors he opened.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Remember the sickness he brought you through.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Remember the bills he helped you pay.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Remember the night the night you cried and somehow made it into morning.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Remember the situations you thought would destroy you, but you're still here.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: In Psalm 103 and verse number two, it says, Bless the Lord, oh my soul, and forget not all his benefits.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: If God brought you through that, don't give up in this.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: Your present trouble is not the first trouble God had brought you through.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Point number four, don't isolate yourself from your darkest moment.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: One of the dangerous things about deep emotional pain is the desire to withdraw.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: You stop answering the telephone, you stop returning messages, you stop going around people, you stop talking, you suffer quietly.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: But the scripture teaches us in Ecclesiastes 4, 9 through 10, it says this two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: If they fall, the one will lift them up the fellow.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: But woe to him that is alone when he falls, but he has not another to help him up.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: Notice it didn't say if they stumble.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: He said, if they fall.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: But the answer is make sure somebody is close enough to help you get back up.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: A police officer may call for backup when a situation becomes too dangerous to handle alone.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Calling for backup doesn't mean the officer is weak.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: It means the officer understands this situation requires help.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you got to call for emotional backup.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you got to call for spiritual backup.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Sometime you got to call for professional backup.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Gotta tell somebody I need you.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: I'm struggling.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: I'm having thoughts that frighten me.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Please stay with me.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Help me get some help.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: There's no shame in calling for backup.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Are you with me?
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Point number five.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Talk back to your troubled soul.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: I do it all the time.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Wild thou cast down, O my soul.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: Wild thou disquieted within me.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Hope thou in God.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: The psalmist is doing something unusual.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: He is talking to himself.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you gotta preach to yourself.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: I do it all the time.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Yes, Lord.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: David did it again in uh Psalm 103.1.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that within me, bless his holy name.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: There are times when nobody else is around to encourage you.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: You listening?
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: You got to tell yourself, so we're going to make it.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: So we're not giving up.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: So God has not forgotten us.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: So help is available.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: So we're going to talk to somebody.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: So we're going to see another day.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: You're listening to your trouble long enough.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Now let your trouble listen to you.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Talk back.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: Two of those situations.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: Talk to your soul.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Well, sometimes people think if I pray, I shouldn't need counseling.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: But prayer and professional help does not have to be enemies.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: We pray for healing, but we still go to the doctor.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: We pray for surgery, but we still allow the surgeon to operate.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: We pray for our medication, but we still take it to pre as is prescribed.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: So when someone is struggling emotionally or thinking about suicide, getting professional help is not an a mission of spiritual failure.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: In Proverbs 11 and 14, it says, where there is no counsel, where no counsel is, the people fall.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: But in the multitude of counselors, there is safety.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Notice that one word: safety.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: God can use a pastor, a counselor, a doctor, a therapist, a chaplain, a trusted family member, a faithful friend.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Don't limit how God can send help.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Lord.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Sometimes the answer to your prayer is the person God sent to walk with you.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: I believe my final point.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Your story is not finished.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Story's not finished.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Why are I cast down on my soul?
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: Why the disquiety with me?
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Hope thou in God.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: For I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance and my God.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: Now come to that shouting pod.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Shout with me.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: I shall yet.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: I shall yet, yet mean it's not happening right now, but it's coming.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: I'm crying now, but I shall yet praise him.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: I'm hurting now, but I shall yet praise him.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: I am confused now, but I shall yet praise him.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Oh hallelujah.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: I can see my way now, but I shall yet praise him.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: My soul is down, but I shall yet praise him.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: In other words, this is not where my story ends.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: The psalmist saw something beyond his present feeling.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: He saw another praise, he saw another worship, he saw another day.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: He saw another chapter.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: He said, I shall be a glory.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Lord.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Coming in now.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: But just imagine a a train.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: Imagine riding a train through a long dark tunnel.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Once you enter the tunnel, you cannot see the sunshine.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: You cannot see the blue sky.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: You cannot see the buildings outside.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: But nobody gets off the train in the middle of the tunnel just because it got dogs.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: You stay on the train because you know the tunnel isn't the destination.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: Somebody be might be going through a tunnel right now.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Your marriage might be in a tunnel.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: Your finance might be in a tunnel.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Your family might be in a tunnel.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Your emotions might be in a tunnel.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Your mind may feel like it's in a tunnel.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Don't get off in the tunnel.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Darkness is not your destiny.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Talk to your soul and close it.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: Psalm 42, 1 and 2.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: 1 and 2.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: As a heart panteth after the water broke, so panic my soul after you, oh God.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: When shall I come and appear before him?
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: His soul was thirsty.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: David's soul.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: His soul was hurting.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: His soul was down about it.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: And he says, I shall yet praise him.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Somebody needs to put a yet in your situation.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: I'm hurting yet.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: I'm discouraged yet.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: I'm grieving yet.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: I'm overwhelmed yet.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: I don't know how I'm gonna make it, but yet I shall praise him.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: God will bring me to it.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: If he allowed you to come to it, he'll bring it to it.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: I know what you're saying.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Someone's in my soul is tired.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: I've been carrying something nobody knows about.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: I've been smiling on the outside and crying on the inside.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: But I have thought that scared me.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: I need somebody help.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Jesus.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: There's no condemnation for you.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: There's no embarrassment here.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: There's no condemnation here.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: There's no embarrassment here.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: There's no shame here.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, you can't forget.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Praise the Lord.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: And if you dare and you need some help, and you need somebody to talk to you.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: You can pick up the phone and you can call me.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Praise God.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: Call me.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: 516 413.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: 516 4136.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: We pray together.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: Call me.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: We believe God together.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: Praise the Lord.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: God loves you.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: He needs you.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Praise the Lord.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: God bless you.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: Jesus' name.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Father.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: God, we bless you this morning.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: In the name of Jesus.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: But when my soul He carried me.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: Carrying me.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: Carried me.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: I remember that.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: I couldn't even pray.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: Listen.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Somebody here knows what I'm talking about.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: You smile in the daytime.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Crying all night long.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: You kept showing up.
