- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts. Right now.
- 0:17Welcome back to the Three O Take presented by Sea Kick.
- 0:18This is episode 483. I'll be your host Kyle Corden.
- 0:22I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes and Nates Stop stop.
- 0:32I knew this was coming, but I'm still.
- 0:37Oh, we. Back.
- 0:40Oh my God. One game, one game, one game.
- 0:45With a whole lot of scoring going on, Sir, hopefully our
- 0:50back. Hopefully didn't use it all up
- 0:52in in one night. We are very back.
- 0:54We are back. It feels good.
- 1:01Feel really, really good. I was down.
- 1:06I was down, down low, down in the dumpsters.
- 1:12You've been in the dumps for the last just no, no air.
- 1:15Four nights just surrounded by trash, buried in stank.
- 1:25Just a little little opening, get some fresh air.
- 1:30All right, cut the bit, cut the bit, cut the bit, because I, you
- 1:37and I both know that you don't even believe in this, this
- 1:39confidence that you have right now.
- 1:40And I, I respect the, I respect trying to salvage what little
- 1:45enjoyment that you're going to get out of this World Series.
- 1:49But bit aside, what do you think it, where do you think this
- 1:52series is headed? I mean, we obviously got to we
- 1:54got to talk, talk about the game as a whole, but you know, big
- 1:58picture, zoom out. They they avoid elimination in
- 2:02game 4. Where do you how do you how do
- 2:04you foresee this series playing out?
- 2:06And spare me the shadow boxing hip hop vibe and Risen, whatever
- 2:12this is. We're going back to LA.
- 2:15That's all that matters. We're going back to LA.
- 2:19Got our Cy Young winner back on the mound tomorrow.
- 2:23Ain't no way Flaherty's going to run it back twice in the same
- 2:26series. We're going back to LA.
- 2:30That's all that's needed to be said.
- 2:37Big, big, big game, you know? Huge, huge game.
- 2:43Some would say, some would say a must win, some would say that.
- 2:50I was, I was absolutely waiting for Smoltz to drop that at some
- 2:53point tonight. I even tweeted it out.
- 2:55I was like, somebody let me know if if you hear Smoltz say that
- 2:58this is a must win game for the Yankees night because that'd be
- 3:01something he would say. But yeah, no, like by aside, I
- 3:07mean well, the in terms of the the game quality, like whatever,
- 3:12pretty, pretty garbage. But in terms of the series
- 3:17itself, huge, like massive avoid elimination and do it in
- 3:21convincing fashion. Like they they.
- 3:23Yeah. This wasn't by the skin of their
- 3:25teeth, you know they. Handled the Dodgers tonight like
- 3:30and and being able to put as put put up as many runs as they did
- 3:33helped him out in in more ways than one.
- 3:35And we'll, we'll obviously get into that, but man, Yankees,
- 3:40Yankees needed this. And the folks in the comments
- 3:43are hoping that your pizza oven work tonight.
- 3:47I mean. Just kidding, we went.
- 3:49We went with Mac and cheese and Dino Nuggets tonight, so you're
- 3:52going to have to run it back. Clearly, clearly winning right
- 3:55now. Are you the type of person
- 3:56that's going to run it back with Mac and cheese and Dino Nuggets
- 3:59tomorrow night? Don't tempt me.
- 4:01Don't tempt me. I will.
- 4:04You might have to. You might have to.
- 4:07Those things hit well. I mean, if, if, if the Yankees
- 4:11are if if you do that and the Yankees are able to repeat
- 4:13tomorrow night what they did tonight, you'll be you'll be
- 4:17Yankees will be looking looking pretty.
- 4:20But talking about this offense though, 11 runs scored tonight
- 4:25on behalf of the Bronx Bombers, which by the way, was four more
- 4:31than they scored in the first three runs of this series
- 4:34combined. They also had more extra base
- 4:36hits tonight than they had the the previous three games
- 4:40combined. And I also saw a note just
- 4:44before we hopped on from Justin Havens, the Nug, the Nug Chef,
- 4:51that the Yankees are the first, believe it or not, the first
- 4:54American League team to steal 5 bases in a World Series game.
- 4:59Really. That's kind of surprising.
- 5:00So they were, they were doing it All in all fronts.
- 5:02They were able to, you know, he'll was able to keep them
- 5:08close or keep things, you know, in the in the ballpark for the
- 5:12most part. And then the, the pen was able
- 5:15to to to hold it down the rest of the way.
- 5:18But I mean your, your thoughts. I mean, this seemed to be a
- 5:22pretty well-rounded effort. It was, I thought he'll look
- 5:26pretty good. I think like for sure emotions
- 5:32and and you know, just adrenaline pumping probably got
- 5:40him a little wild in the in the 1st a little bit in the second
- 5:43too. Actually, it was just a little
- 5:45erratic and like sometimes erratic when you throw 9798 can
- 5:50be a good thing because you never know when he hits the zone
- 5:56and sometimes you just kind of sitting there awkwardly as a
- 6:00hitter. You're like, I wasn't expecting
- 6:02that to not hit the backstop. Next thing you know you're
- 6:05striking out, you know, so sometimes it works.
- 6:08Not going to say he was lights out by any means, but I mean I I
- 6:15guess like. Can I just add something?
- 6:17I I I think the fact that he was able to do enough to warrant a a
- 6:23standing no walking off the mound, given the state of the
- 6:27team, given the state of the series, the fact that the like
- 6:31he in order to to get a standing O out of this crowd tonight,
- 6:36with the way these last two games have gone or last three
- 6:40games have gone, essentially, you you have to do something a
- 6:46little more than ordinary. And again, he did.
- 6:48He wasn't lights out, but the fact that he was able to, like I
- 6:51said, keep it, keep it within within the ballpark and and give
- 6:57them a shot to do what they did tonight was huge.
- 7:00Yeah, yeah, looked, I mean again, looked pretty good.
- 7:06Defense looked pretty good. For the most part, the bullpen
- 7:15has been really solid. I think the bullpen has been
- 7:19like it. It's obvious that the starting
- 7:21pitching has been what's letting the Yankees down on top of
- 7:24absolutely zero, you know, momentum offensively.
- 7:28But the bullpen has been very, very good and giving them a
- 7:32shot. That the fact that they've had a
- 7:34shot in the first three games just tells you a lot of what the
- 7:38bullpens done. And and they continued it on
- 7:41tonight as well. Yeah, I'm, I'm going to be
- 7:46honest, man, I was, I was down. I was still, I was still at the
- 7:49bottom of the dumpster when Freddie hit that.
- 7:52I did call it last night. I did say that he.
- 7:54Would get the get the record. Excellent job.
- 7:57So yeah, we'll just check that box.
- 8:02No big deal. Hey, hey, hey, you and I, you
- 8:05and I both. You and I both correct
- 8:08predictions. Boon like clockwork, chalking up
- 8:11Judge in the three hole despite being absolute poop the entire
- 8:15postseason. Nailed it.
- 8:19Nailed it. Look at us.
- 8:21Quite honestly, your your prediction was far more
- 8:24impressive. Because we know ball or we know
- 8:26ball. I mean mind, I mean if they if
- 8:29this series went 19 games, you can assume that Boone's chalking
- 8:33in pencil and then judge in the three hole.
- 8:36I don't think Freddy's ankle hurts at all.
- 8:38I think it's completely fine. The man is a robot.
- 8:43He busted it down the line on that double play that would have
- 8:48gotten out of the inning without a run scoring and beats it down
- 8:50like he just I don't know. I don't know how how her that
- 8:58ankle be, you know? Like, I mean, you would, you
- 9:01would think that these trainers are, are making love to this
- 9:05ankle the way they talk about it on the broadcast they're.
- 9:07Like Joe Davis is really getting into this.
- 9:09Yeah, man, they're like these trainers are on top, on top of
- 9:15Freddy grinding it. It literally he was like
- 9:18grinding it out. I'm like, Joe, this is a family
- 9:23program now. Come on, let's dial it in, man.
- 9:27Yeah, I don't. I don't freak.
- 9:31Yeah, Joe, I think Joe David. Yeah, I know you're talking
- 9:33Freddy being a freak, but Joe Davis might be a little freak
- 9:36too. Also.
- 9:37As well. Also a freak in a different way.
- 9:40The the the Freddie thing though, you, you want to talk
- 9:45about obvious predictions in terms of Boone penciling and
- 9:48judge it in game like 37 of the series.
- 9:53I think if this game went 30, if this series went 37 games, he's
- 9:57also probably going to be pitching to to Freddie as well.
- 10:00Just keep filling it, filling up the zone.
- 10:03Seems to be status quo. Just, you know.
- 10:08It's quite wild. Clockwork.
- 10:10It's quite wild. The guy's really just really,
- 10:14really good. What's the thing there?
- 10:16Like why? Why?
- 10:18I understand it's the first inning, but why haven't?
- 10:21Why haven't toy with it, you know?
- 10:24Yeah, dude, that's what I'm saying is that like you could
- 10:26tell that the rest of the game everyone pitched to him pretty
- 10:30well like it was. And you could tell that the home
- 10:37played umpiring has been a little a little sketchy during
- 10:41the World Series, but you could tell that there were a couple
- 10:45that were 2-3 inches outside that were getting calls.
- 10:49Like why not just stay out there?
- 10:51Just live there for Freddie free live there.
- 10:54If you get the call, great. If you don't, that's fine.
- 10:57Take your chances with Tay Oscar.
- 10:59You know that's who is hitting 4th, right?
- 11:03My crazy. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:05I mean, at that point, you've got show Haze out of the way,
- 11:08you've got Mookie out of the way.
- 11:09And if you have, I'm not, I'm not saying specific to tonight,
- 11:12but I'm just saying generally speaking, with the way that
- 11:14Freddy's been hitting, if you have an opportunity to pitch
- 11:17around him, put him on, whatever.
- 11:20If, if this ankle really is bad, then you you don't need to worry
- 11:25as much about him being any sort of making any sort of impact on
- 11:28the back. So I, I don't, I don't
- 11:30understand why the game plan continues to be the pitch to
- 11:35Freddie doesn't make any sense. Smoltz has has said a few things
- 11:38that were kind of spot on. And he I think he mentioned
- 11:41like, I think it was like Game 2, like it's like an ego thing.
- 11:46Like there's an ego with pitchers, especially starting
- 11:48pitchers that were like, he ain't going to touch my
- 11:52fastball, you know what I mean? Like he's done it everybody
- 11:54else, but he ain't doing it to me.
- 11:56And there's almost like this. I got to I got to get him with
- 11:59this and it's just not worked. So let's just let's just go
- 12:05ahead and let the man. Be What did I say?
- 12:09What did I say? Would lose the Yankees this
- 12:12World Series? Ego.
- 12:13Egos. Lego, my ego.
- 12:17Lego, my ego. Oh, we can't talk about waffles
- 12:20right now, by the way. Crazy stuff going on.
- 12:24Hear about that? I have no clue what you're
- 12:29talking about. Don't eat waffles right now bro,
- 12:32there's a whole lot of listeria going on in waffles.
- 12:35Don't want that. Yeah, that in quarter Pounders,
- 12:39by the way. Oh yeah, E Coli's just making
- 12:43its rounds. I think there's just a lot.
- 12:45Going on, you know any who's. Something in the water.
- 12:50Yeah, something in the water. Speaking of something being in
- 12:53the water, can we talk about this little interaction in the
- 12:56in the What was that in the first inning, bottom of the
- 13:00first? Which one?
- 13:02What do you mean? Which one?
- 13:06Look, I think I mean this man paid.
- 13:10I, I, I thought I was being, I thought I was being general or,
- 13:13you know, I thought I was maybe overshooting it a little bit,
- 13:15But I tweeted out. I was like, imagine paying $5000
- 13:20to see your team in the World Series and you get ejected in
- 13:24the bottom of the first because you're ripping the ball out of
- 13:28Mookie Betts his glove. I've never seen.
- 13:31He was trying to take the glove like I've never seen.
- 13:35I've never seen this. I think there's three people
- 13:38that really took one on the chin for the Yankees tonight.
- 13:42Those two guys sitting in the front row where his buddies like
- 13:46pounding the fence and being like he's in our area.
- 13:51I mean, what is he doing? He's like he's getting up in
- 13:56there. The fact that his homie was
- 13:58like, get your other hand out of here Mookie.
- 14:00Like. Well, that no, that was kind of
- 14:04the weird thing is he takes Mookie.
- 14:06I I I have like a a very mild conspiracy here.
- 14:11I think that his buddy in the in the home pinstripe jersey
- 14:15realized like in real time what was happening.
- 14:18Because if you watch, he takes Mookie's hand and like puts it
- 14:22on the glove as if to say like, no man, this is all you.
- 14:25This is your ball. Like, don't get us tossed here.
- 14:29But at that point, it's too late.
- 14:30You're caught in 4K at that point.
- 14:31I. Really appreciate the effort.
- 14:34You're not. You're not undoing that.
- 14:36They for sure just walked across the street into Billy's and and
- 14:40caught the rest of the game there.
- 14:42That's an expensive night. I mean the bottom of the first.
- 14:48You don't get a full inning in man.
- 14:53His buddy that was like, it's like it the glove was over here
- 14:57like it was in our side. He caught it, bro.
- 15:01He caught it. He caught it cleanly.
- 15:04I got that was nuts. That was crazy.
- 15:06Well, I got. Worried because I saw Mookie
- 15:08sort of like. I saw him chirp back.
- 15:10Yeah, I. Was like, well, he he chirp back
- 15:12a little bit, but he almost had it as it's happening.
- 15:15He almost had this look on his face like something was getting
- 15:17twisted up. I'm like, it's the last thing we
- 15:19need is some some drunk idiot messing with with Mookie Betts
- 15:24of all people. Unbelievable.
- 15:28It's real. I think he just really got
- 15:29everyone going. I think he got everybody fired
- 15:32up. Here's the.
- 15:33Question nobody's asking. Yeah.
- 15:36Is this maybe the reverse Steve Bartman?
- 15:39I love that. I love that play.
- 15:44Why not? Why not?
- 15:47Why not the Yanks? Huh.
- 15:49Why not the Yanks? Why not us?
- 15:50OK. So I'm curious, was there
- 15:52something else that I missed in the bottom of the first?
- 15:54Because when I said, how did, how do we feel about this
- 15:56interaction, you said, which one?
- 15:57Was there something that I was missing out elsewhere?
- 16:00No, you didn't say bottom first. You just said can we talk about
- 16:02this interaction? And I was like, which one?
- 16:06Yeah, that was that was nuts, dude.
- 16:10I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before.
- 16:12I have never seen it I've. I've never seen, like, we're
- 16:15talking the gloves. True.
- 16:16Like tug of war. Yeah, yeah, that was weird.
- 16:21That's weirdo stuff. That's weirdo stuff.
- 16:27We don't claim. We don't claim all Yankee fans,
- 16:29You know what I mean? Stop.
- 16:31There's some goons out there. No.
- 16:32Stop. He's there.
- 16:33He's in New Jersey. He's at the game.
- 16:36He's if. That's what it took.
- 16:38Let that man start a GoFundMe. If we've if we do end up pulling
- 16:41this thing off, start a GoFundMe.
- 16:45Big, big thanks to whatever whatever that guy's name.
- 16:49Oh, if this guy's name. Is Sal for sure.
- 16:51His name is like Sal. You know if.
- 16:53If this thing goes 7, he's you guarantee the Yankees are
- 16:57getting them in the dugout for game seven.
- 17:00They that would happen that something like that would.
- 17:03Happen Sal from Jersey, that's for sure.
- 17:06What an expense. That's a New Jersey type.
- 17:10It's holy tipping, right? There.
- 17:12And then I like, I like his buddy afterwards.
- 17:14He's like, he's talking to I, I guess he was talking to the OP.
- 17:17He's like making this gesture. Yeah, that's what he's saying.
- 17:20He's like, it's on our side, like it's the fence.
- 17:22It was over here. I tweeted, I tweeted the video
- 17:25of it and I was like, I'm walking here.
- 17:27That's I mean. So good.
- 17:30Yeah, I think you're on something.
- 17:31I think that was AI think that was just Sal and what do we
- 17:34think his buddy's name was? Tony for sure, Sal and Tony, Sal
- 17:38and just out here. He's looking down at Mookie.
- 17:42We're. Walking here, this is this is
- 17:47huge. This is what?
- 17:49This is what the crowd needed. No, for real, though, I, I
- 17:52think, I think even if something as silly as that, you know,
- 17:57invigorated the, the crowd a little bit because like you
- 18:00said, the the Freeman home run, I personally, I saw that and I
- 18:04go no, that this is it. I know.
- 18:09Pack it up, turn off the lights, the party's over.
- 18:11But credit to the credit to the Yanks for making it competitive.
- 18:15Like I said, that's all we wanted was a competitive game.
- 18:18And there for a while, 112 run game.
- 18:21And then obviously as the game progresses, it gets out of hand
- 18:24and the the Yankees are able to deal with a little more
- 18:28flexibility with the pen and all that.
- 18:30But they're for a good bit. It was a it was a close
- 18:32competitive game. Yeah, Yeah.
- 18:38Look, I mean, let's let's just talk Volpe for a SEC, man.
- 18:41Let's just let's just dive on in.
- 18:43Let's just dive on in to the man.
- 18:45Yeah, that was a that was a really bad base running mistake.
- 18:51And he I just haven't really seen that out of him yet.
- 18:56Like since he's been up. I, I just, he doesn't make, he
- 19:01doesn't make those kind of mistakes.
- 19:02And I think people mistake that like on the bases they think
- 19:05he's really fast. He's not actually that fast.
- 19:09He's pretty league average as far as speed goes.
- 19:12He doesn't seem blazing, but. He has like a very quick first
- 19:15step, Very good solid baserunner.
- 19:18That was just a weird brain fart.
- 19:22If you're not understanding what we're talking about.
- 19:24He is on 2nd with one out, one out, and Austin Wells ropes a
- 19:31ball off of the center field wall pretty much right over the
- 19:34head of Kiki and it was a weird go halfway.
- 19:40Oh, I think Kiki has it. Hold on.
- 19:42Let's pause. Pause.
- 19:47Let's go into the mind of Anthony Volpe on this play.
- 19:50What happened? I don't know if I can if I know.
- 19:58I think there was an assumption that Kiki had a beat on it and
- 20:05he started working his way back towards second too soon.
- 20:10No outs by like that with one out.
- 20:15I don't think it's that much of an advantage to tag up and get
- 20:19to 3rd, so it's not worth hanging around second base so.
- 20:26Ideally, like you'd like to see him almost get to 3rd like 2/3
- 20:31of the way there because you still have plenty of time to get
- 20:33it, you know, get back to 2nd. And it would have taken a
- 20:36miraculous play out of Kiki to make that catch.
- 20:39So you saw him kind of get halfway and then start working
- 20:45his way back. And I don't know if he lost it
- 20:48at a certain point because he still didn't get a very good
- 20:50jump. He pretty much went all the way
- 20:51back to second base and busted it to third real fast.
- 20:56And thank the Lord that freaking Rojas finally was just like,
- 21:01let's hold some let's just stop somebody right here for a SEC.
- 21:07But yeah, it's just that it's a it's a weird brain fart moment
- 21:13that you don't see from a very good baserunner.
- 21:16And that's been the story so far of this series.
- 21:19Like it it's been you can think of like the other the other play
- 21:25that Freddie beating out the double play to let a run score
- 21:29to make it a one run game, that Glaber flip that was just a
- 21:32little high, little wide and it had Volpe reaching not able to
- 21:37get everything into that throw. Those have been like the moment
- 21:41so far in the series that have been just blown up and become so
- 21:47big and game changing type moments because of the offense
- 21:51not being able to make up for it.
- 21:54So the fact that Volpe gets to come up the next inning and get
- 21:58redemption and get that that I think it was the first pitch
- 22:02Grand Slam huge, huge because it it gives the opportunity to wash
- 22:11some of that stuff away. And right now we're not talking
- 22:15about those moments being crazy. We're not talking about those
- 22:18moments are the, you know, the reason why they lost.
- 22:23Did they play perfectly clean? No, but like when the offense
- 22:26shows up and does what they did tonight, those aren't really
- 22:32memorable, memorable moments for the Yankees.
- 22:35Thankfully, good news is Wells tagged 2 balls tonight that.
- 22:42I was literally just about to say talking about two guys that
- 22:46haven't had like premier series to this point certainly had an
- 22:53impact on tonight's game, which I think is huge for them moving
- 22:56forward if they if they hope to stretch this out another game or
- 23:01two or even 3. But we talked about it.
- 23:06You, you it has to this. Yeah.
- 23:09And it goes without saying, of course, But if the Yankees have
- 23:13any hope of doing anything, you have to have something more in
- 23:17that line up in terms of production outside of Stanton
- 23:22and Soto and even Judge, who will will touch on just in a
- 23:27little bit. Even he was able to, you know,
- 23:30make an impact, however small of an impact it was tonight.
- 23:35He was able to to be on base and to be in the mix of of this
- 23:40offensive outpouring that the that they had.
- 23:42But I mean, in in terms of using this as a a jumping off point
- 23:49for games 5 and potentially beyond.
- 23:51This is exactly what what they needed.
- 23:54You you get sort of everybody involved, you get you get some
- 23:58arms out there, like we talked about out of the pen to come out
- 24:01and and do what they needed to do.
- 24:03And then really up and down the lineup you had guys, like I
- 24:07said, impacting it and in one way or another, whether it be
- 24:12working a pitch count, getting on base, swiping a bag, whatever
- 24:15it was, it was that's that's like that's what I was saying
- 24:18earlier. Pretty, pretty well-rounded game
- 24:20for the Yankees tonight. So.
- 24:21Yeah, very complete. I think I you know, you kind of
- 24:26just sit and wonder if there was maybe just a youthful like shell
- 24:33shock stuck in, in concrete type vibe going on in in Volpe's
- 24:42head. You know, you you talk about
- 24:45last night, like, you know, the first game in Yankee Stadium for
- 24:47the World Series and, you know, Derek Jeter's throwing out the
- 24:50first pitch and like I'm playing shorts.
- 24:52I like, I wonder how much of that is like surreal.
- 24:56You know, they talked on the on on the broadcast tonight about
- 24:59like how obviously he grew up a Yankee fan, but like, you know,
- 25:02his parents being die hard Yankees, his family and like
- 25:05they'd be happy anyway if Volpe wasn't playing in his game.
- 25:09And so it's insane that he is. So it makes you just wonder if,
- 25:12like tonight, kind of unleash like a you know what, like I do
- 25:16a belong here, like I I can hang with the rest of these guys.
- 25:20I may be young, I may be, you know, somewhat green, but like I
- 25:25I can hang. And you saw like the confidence
- 25:30just kind of take over him on on the bases after that.
- 25:34You saw it defensively. I mean that, you know, going off
- 25:38of contact in the Verdugo at bat, great at bat, by the way,
- 25:41one of one of the best at bats I've ever seen Verdugo take that
- 25:48go on contact to the, you know, one hopper deluxe at 2nd and
- 25:52just a little bit throw to to the wrong side and Volpe slides
- 25:57in. It's like that.
- 25:59I think you saw like a little bit of like a short hop, you
- 26:01know, kind of go down to the knee at short the next inning.
- 26:04Like you watch some of these, like those are confidence plays.
- 26:08Those are like I'm settled in and I feel good.
- 26:12And so you wonder if, like, that can do something for a young
- 26:15guy, especially with all of the pressure of being, you know, the
- 26:20next New York kid. Yeah, I mean, do you talk about
- 26:28him? They showed on the on the
- 26:29broadcast. I've sure pretty much showed on
- 26:31broadcast every night. He's at the 2009 World Series
- 26:34parade as like a little kid, and now he's in the World Series.
- 26:37And I think the thing that was most impressive to me about it
- 26:40was you talk about it being a confidence booster.
- 26:44The fact that he was able to flush that in the moment, that
- 26:50base running blunder was massive.
- 26:52Because you talk, we talk right off the top, talking about the
- 26:56lack of run production these first three games of the series.
- 26:59So you finally have a chance, a very simple, easy, feasible
- 27:05opportunity to take advantage of a run that the Dodgers, well, I
- 27:10won't say gifted you, but you know you your offense is earning
- 27:14it. But it's right that use a a
- 27:16boonie ISM is right there in front of you.
- 27:19And so when he gets a third and he's, he's like mashing his
- 27:23thigh because he's just, he's frustrated with himself and he
- 27:25knows that he, he, he knows better and he probably expects
- 27:29better for himself. The fact that what was most
- 27:31impressive is the fact that he came back and on that Grand
- 27:34Slam, you, you could tell he was sitting on that pitch.
- 27:38So to be able to, to be able to flush that in between when it
- 27:42happened to that, that pitch that he he took yard.
- 27:46That's, that's a, that's a big league move right there.
- 27:49That that's not him dwelling on it.
- 27:51That's not him feeling sorry for himself.
- 27:53That's him going, OK, I mean it, it happens in baseball, but it
- 27:58doesn't always happen where you have an opportunity to to
- 28:01immediately to, to prove yourself, to redeem yourself.
- 28:07And like I said, the fact that he was sitting on it tells you
- 28:09that he went up to the plate with the game plan, which like I
- 28:12said, it's a big league. That's a big league move for,
- 28:15for rather young kids. So that was impressive.
- 28:18Yeah, yeah, man, trying to think some other some other big
- 28:28moments. I think they talked about on the
- 28:31broadcast a lot of swing and miss from the Dodgers tonight.
- 28:34They're not like super used to seeing that lot of swing and
- 28:39miss. I think Clay Holmes kind of
- 28:42cleaned up, and he's not a strikeout guy, so that was
- 28:46surprising. He went in, in in 1/3 he had
- 28:50two. KS Yeah, I think I saw a comment
- 28:55here live with us about Otani. Yeah, he I just don't I don't
- 29:00know man. Like he he just doesn't look
- 29:03fully quite right. There's there's a few swings,
- 29:08fastballs up and there was a couple hanging sliders at the
- 29:11top of the zone, like 8889 mile an hour spinners at the top of
- 29:15the zone that kind of backed up. But like, normally you would see
- 29:21him destroy those and he just doesn't quite look right.
- 29:27He seems to be flying. I mean, I'm not trying to sit
- 29:29here and like dissect Otani swings, but I think because of
- 29:32this injury, he like you say, he's not quite feeling right.
- 29:35And you see him just and they talked about it tonight too, how
- 29:38he's just trying to launch baseballs.
- 29:41He's he seems like he's flying open a little bit.
- 29:43And I think that's because he's thinking about his shoulders,
- 29:46maybe his front side, his backside, and just being able to
- 29:49get to a ball as quickly and as as violently as he's used to
- 29:53being able to do. And because he probably feels
- 29:56limited physically. I think that's that's getting in
- 29:59his head a little bit. And he he just doesn't look as
- 30:04mechanically sound or he hasn't looked as mechanically sound
- 30:09since this this injury. And you know it.
- 30:12You bring backside. Being it that's your top hand
- 30:15and like that backside really controls the barrel and if your
- 30:20top hand has any kind of weakness going on, you're going
- 30:24to struggle to stay on top of stuff.
- 30:26And that's why you're seeing him really struggle on the top of
- 30:28the zone and then probably expanding on that stuff that's
- 30:32down and away anyway, no? I was just going to say you, you
- 30:36bring up Shohei and I, I feel like I, I, I meant to bring it
- 30:41up last night, given that, like we said and and as you very well
- 30:45know, Dodgers were a game away from sweeping coming into the
- 30:49night. So I'm I'm glad tonight
- 30:51happened. So I I still have the
- 30:52opportunity to bring it up. The thing was show Hey, because
- 30:55I feel like when people hear me specifically harping on judge
- 31:00and saying like we need more out of judge, We need more out of
- 31:03judge. The Yankees need more out of
- 31:04judge. I say we, not me, the Yankees
- 31:06need more out of judge. They go, OK, well, what about
- 31:11what about don't even give me that look.
- 31:13They they say that. They they say, OK, well, what
- 31:17about Shohei? What has Shohei done this World
- 31:19Series? The answer is nothing.
- 31:21The the difference is the Dodgers.
- 31:25Coming in is delivering, yeah. Coming into the night, three
- 31:28games to none, that's the difference.
- 31:31It's as simple as that. It's not.
- 31:32It's not about, it's not about picking on judge.
- 31:35It's not about saying, OK, well, you're on, you're on a different
- 31:42level of expectation that then show it's not that's not it.
- 31:46You're both MVP players. However, one of you meaning
- 31:52Shohei is surrounded by, like you said, surrounded by other
- 31:56guys in that lineup that are producing and it sort of
- 31:59alleviates any any sort of missing production that you're
- 32:04that that exists there with show.
- 32:05Hey, that's the difference Judge.
- 32:07It it wasn't wasn't as glaring tonight.
- 32:11Yeah, he he had he had a a couple he got on base a couple
- 32:15times there, but still wasn't, you know, the Judge that we saw
- 32:20that throughout the regular season.
- 32:22But my point is is that it wasn't as glaring because you
- 32:25had guys around him producing. You put up the Yankees put up
- 32:28eleven runs. So if you continue to do that
- 32:31and Judge continues to struggle, maybe you can get by, maybe you
- 32:35can stretch it out a a couple more games.
- 32:37But if if those guys aren't doing that, the burden's going
- 32:42to fall on Judge as the captain and the leader of that team and
- 32:45the best offensive player on that team.
- 32:48It's, well, I mean, so Juan Soto, whatever, toss up, but it
- 32:53it's. Probably when it's all said and
- 32:55done, Yeah. But no, I mean, ABS did look
- 33:00better tonight. I think there were multiple two
- 33:03strike counts that he worked a walk in.
- 33:07Got me super nervous. That fastball up and in that
- 33:11caught the hand, some finger of the left hand and I think the
- 33:14palm of the of the right hand, which got me a little a little
- 33:18worried. But you saw him being able to
- 33:23lay off of that, that slider in that cutter that's down and out,
- 33:26that's just off. And that's the one that he's
- 33:29been pulling off of and not reaching.
- 33:32And you can see that like once he starts spotting that a little
- 33:35bit and he gets a better idea of what's a ball and what's a
- 33:37strike. Because I think that's where
- 33:39he's really, really struggling. Is that that borderline pitch
- 33:44that's a way or down and out that he feels like isn't a
- 33:48strike and it ends up clipping the zone?
- 33:50Like I think those are the ones where he's really struggling
- 33:55with. That's what he struggled with
- 33:56early in his career. And then he gets, you know, beat
- 34:00with stuff in or up. And as these ABS have progressed
- 34:06tonight, he did hit that, you know, that RBI single when the
- 34:10game was kind of out of hand at that point, but he had that RBI
- 34:12single to left. I think it, I think it did look
- 34:18better. And they said on the broadcast,
- 34:21man, if he would have, if he would have popped off in that
- 34:23AB, it would have felt like we're really bad.
- 34:29You know what I mean, but they said this was the last box to
- 34:32check for, for what would be essentially like a, a
- 34:36rejuvenation for for this team and didn't quite accomplish
- 34:41that. I don't I, I wouldn't say, but
- 34:43you know, I mean, I guess a step in the right direction, but I,
- 34:47if I, if I hear the, the commentary about judge being
- 34:53like this, this sleeping beast one more time, it's like the
- 35:00World Series is going to be over.
- 35:01I'm convinced the World Series is going to be over the sleeping
- 35:05giant and we're going to talk about Aaron Judge being the
- 35:08sleeping giant just knocking on the door of breaking out.
- 35:11It's like the season's over, dude.
- 35:16Like give it up. We're we've we've essentially
- 35:19reached the end of the year. And like, I, I mean, well, more
- 35:24specifically, pretty much the end of the postseason, which
- 35:27he's sucked in as as has been well documented.
- 35:31And I think it's time to give that narrative up.
- 35:34I think it's time to give that narrative up because even if it
- 35:36goes out, even if it goes out in game five and and hits three
- 35:40home runs, it's like, OK, I don't know.
- 35:43If you say they push it to game six, say they make it to game
- 35:46six and the Dodgers win game six, that's essentially 2 games
- 35:50for him to break out, break out the the sleeping giant 22 games
- 35:55the the entire course of the postseason.
- 35:57We're going to call that breaking out.
- 35:59OK, OK. We shall see.
- 36:06You getting getting a little little too.
- 36:08Cocky, we shall see. Another guy I mentioned it last
- 36:15night that Walker Buehler I think is earned himself a little
- 36:17contract. I think Labour Torres has earned
- 36:19himself a a pretty good paycheck for the last 60 days worth of
- 36:26baseball. And what's crazy is that Dero
- 36:34has been saying this on MOV Central for like 2 years.
- 36:38Like get Glaber Torres in the lead off spot.
- 36:42Just get him in the lead off spot.
- 36:44He doesn't think anymore. He doesn't put the pressure on
- 36:46it of like, it's almost like he goes back to that.
- 36:49I think he had 38 or something like that home runs back in
- 36:532021. And it's like you want him to
- 36:57like relive that life and you're like, bro, like you're not that
- 37:01guy. Like, you don't have to be that
- 37:03guy. Not that guy, pal.
- 37:04I. Just I just made that number up.
- 37:08I don't know if it's 38. 30/8/2019.
- 37:11Is it 2019? Whoa, five stars.
- 37:13A while ago. We're all I know.
- 37:16But that's just like, you know. For those keeping track, for
- 37:18those keeping track at home, he finished 17th in MVP voting that
- 37:21year. That's crazy, but.
- 37:24Clay Torres getting MVP votes? How about that?
- 37:26But yeah, man, it's just, you know, the way he's played.
- 37:28I know it does a lot having a Juan Soto hitting behind you,
- 37:31but the way he's played, I think he's earned himself a lot more
- 37:35attention. And I think that like if the
- 37:38Yankees thought that they could maybe bring him back on a on a
- 37:41team friendly, you know, hometown discount kind of deal.
- 37:45I I'd say based on his performance, that number is
- 37:49going to go up a little bit. So good for him defensively
- 37:54though, brother, figure it out and like clean it up.
- 37:57Like you've had some rough moments.
- 38:00And again, I mentioned that double play flip that like
- 38:04that's just a standard, just a standard.
- 38:09One of these guys, just a little thumb down shovel pass.
- 38:12That cannot happen. Cannot mess up the rhythm,
- 38:16rhythm of the shortstop coming across that way.
- 38:18So anyways, what else we got? What else we got Max Muncie,
- 38:24brother, what's going on there, man?
- 38:28Guy was lights out for most of the postseason.
- 38:33Really, really struggled. I don't think he has.
- 38:35Were they saying he hasn't had a knock yet in the World Series?
- 38:41He's hitting 178 this postseason.
- 38:47Honestly, I hadn't been. I mean, I've been admittedly a.
- 38:50Little like fixated streak, right?
- 38:52Right. For a while, but.
- 38:54I've admittedly been a little little fixated on on judges lack
- 38:58of production 'cause that's just it.
- 39:00It's just mind blowing to me, but I haven't been keeping as
- 39:05much up to date with with Muncie.
- 39:07What's is that what they said The Yeah, really the whole
- 39:10series? Yeah, yeah.
- 39:12Talk about a guy though, that could like, you're used to
- 39:15seeing that number. You're used to seeing Max Muncie
- 39:19hit, you know, under 250. But talk about a guy that could
- 39:25very much get it going at any point.
- 39:27He's like a he's like a Kyle Schwarber in a way.
- 39:30Like when when it comes, it comes in bunches and like, oh,
- 39:34look out when it does. So the fact that they've kept
- 39:37him at Bay. Trying to think Tay Oscar looked
- 39:47a little frustrated tonight. I mean, there's a few Dodgers
- 39:51that look frustrated, but like, overall it's been it's.
- 40:00I think you can use tonight as like something to work off of
- 40:04and and something to like build off of on the the approach
- 40:08towards the Dodgers lineup and the way you can attack them.
- 40:13Yeah, I mean, I, I to you to your point, I think they
- 40:16frustrated the Dodgers lineup a little bit tonight, but I don't
- 40:20think I don't think it's anything that's going to
- 40:22necessarily keep this. I don't like, I don't think the
- 40:24Dodgers are going going into the clubhouse tonight, going back to
- 40:28their hotel being like guys, but how do we come back from this?
- 40:32Like they they just, you know, I mean, you, you put up four runs.
- 40:35It's not it's not going to necessarily win you a ball game
- 40:38and it it certainly didn't tonight.
- 40:39But with the way that they really you zoom Outlook beyond
- 40:46just as crazy you have. This conversation right now, by
- 40:48the way, the fact that they've averaged six runs a game, right?
- 40:51And they put up four and we're like, they really kind of held
- 40:55them. That's.
- 40:56What? That's exactly what I'm saying.
- 40:57You zoom out, you look at the you look at the length of the
- 41:00postseason and just with the way they've been churning out runs
- 41:03in their sleep. I'm, I'm not worried about this
- 41:06whatsoever. I, I, I hope for the sake of the
- 41:10series and for entertainment value that both team like the
- 41:14Yankees can, you know, maybe build off this, the Dodgers can
- 41:17come out, you know, maybe bounce back, punch back a little bit
- 41:21in, in Game 5. But I, in terms of the Dodgers
- 41:24lineup specifically, I, I have 0 concerns, 0 concerns.
- 41:30It would be nice if if, you know, Shohei would would tap in
- 41:33a little bit. But if if we're at a point now
- 41:36where you just kind of have to maybe chalk that up.
- 41:40Yeah, I mean it. Makes me sad and.
- 41:43Yeah, I mean, it's, it's certainly not you, you don't
- 41:45like to you you don't love to see it necessarily.
- 41:47But you know, the, the, the reality of it is, is that it,
- 41:54it, if you're going to chalk it up as an L, I'm, I'm, I'm not
- 41:58saying you're expecting nothing out of him.
- 42:00But if, if you want to play it safe and say that you're, you're
- 42:04counting on nothing, then you can maybe adjust accordingly
- 42:07and, and lean into some of these other guys.
- 42:09Bounce back. Hey, Oscar being a name, for
- 42:11example, of like, OK, you've shown you've had some moments
- 42:14this this series. Let's.
- 42:17Let's let's build on that. Let's let's take it up a notch
- 42:20and then you can kind of account for that lack of production out
- 42:22of show, hey? There's there is one guy that I
- 42:25don't think is going to recover and that's that Brent Honeywell
- 42:27guy. That poor guy really took one on
- 42:31the chin for the Dodgers tonight, man.
- 42:34They just let him. They just let him drown out
- 42:37there. Well, you.
- 42:39You. Heard screaming into his glove.
- 42:41I'm like, fam, it's done. This game is all done when?
- 42:46They losing it when they interviewed Dave Roberts.
- 42:49He I don't even it was early. It was probably, well, I guess
- 42:56it would have been after the Volpe Grand Slam.
- 42:57So we're we're talking like probably 4th inning, I guess
- 43:00interviewed him and. It was probably like A52 at that
- 43:03point. Yeah, and they're asking him
- 43:05about his approach for the rest of the game.
- 43:07He's like, yeah, we're just going to, you know, we're we're
- 43:09just going to try to chew up some minions.
- 43:11I'm like, this dude's already punting.
- 43:12It's exactly what I said last night.
- 43:13They did that against the Mets. They punted.
- 43:16Like set your like. Mets put up 10 I think.
- 43:18Yeah, take the Li mean it's I'm not I'm not like faulting the
- 43:22guy like the the strategy has worked clearly for them.
- 43:26You just take the L you, you reset, you recollect, like you
- 43:29collect yourself, your staff, your rotation, your pen, you get
- 43:33everybody right for game 5I I understand that.
- 43:37But the fact that he went on TV and was like, yeah, you know,
- 43:40we're just trying to chew up some minions.
- 43:41Like homie, homie came into the game.
- 43:43Forget the Volpe Grand Slam. Dave Roberts came into this game
- 43:46prepared to fully punt. He he he was just hoping that he
- 43:51could maybe catch catch lightning in a bottle again with
- 43:53another bullpen game. Didn't happen.
- 43:56But. I mean, just wild to, you know.
- 43:59Just and Landon Knack really gave him that chance to like he
- 44:03he did. He did pretty well.
- 44:04And I think, you know, all things considered, Landon Knack
- 44:07chewed up exactly what he was supposed to do.
- 44:09But the Game 5 to me is for obvious reasons, like it's the
- 44:23most important game for the Yankees.
- 44:25But I think it's one that like if the Yankees have any shot
- 44:29whatsoever, this is the way it has to happen.
- 44:33You get another attempt at Game 1, you get an attempt at that of
- 44:38Flaherty and a full throttle bullpen with an off day coming
- 44:44on Thursday, Yes. On Friday.
- 44:49What day is it? Thursday, Tuesday, yeah, off day
- 44:53Thursday, something that I think was very you talk about that the
- 44:57pen being in in OK shape. Something I think that was
- 45:02actually pretty significant that happened that probably isn't
- 45:04going to get talked about in in in the the main storylines is
- 45:09the fact that the Yankees were able to put up enough runs late
- 45:12to where Luke Weaver did not have to come back out for the
- 45:15night like that was. That was massive.
- 45:18Huge. Huge.
- 45:19That was massive because it it's not just, it's not just the fact
- 45:26that he would have to come out for another inning and add to
- 45:29his his body, his body of work, the fact.
- 45:31He's out tomorrow, yeah. Well, yeah, that, but you're
- 45:35you're now asking a guy to come out he he's going to be on the
- 45:38mound for what, the third consecutive inning?
- 45:41Because he went an inning, I think he logged an inning and a
- 45:43third on the night. Is that it would have been two
- 45:45and a third if he came back out. Right.
- 45:48So he would have been on the mound for three consecutive over
- 45:51the course of over the span of three innings.
- 45:53And they talked about tonight, they said, I think they said
- 45:55that would have been the longest save in in World Series history.
- 45:58Yeah, in Yankee world. Series or Yankee World Series?
- 46:02Oh yeah, that's what I want as a Yankee.
- 46:04But I think, and they did mention it tonight, like what
- 46:08people need to remember is that like he's not this this
- 46:12journeyman closer, like he he hasn't been in this role his
- 46:15entire career. And I think that that plays a
- 46:19big role in this. Like it plays a big part in the
- 46:21fact that he was a starter. He understands the up and down.
- 46:26Even then he was kind of a a long man middle relief.
- 46:30And he's just found his way into this role.
- 46:34And I think that's what makes it like I've I've been upset with
- 46:38how often Boone has gone to him for five, four or five out
- 46:43saves. But we just got to remember that
- 46:46like he's not the ordinary closer.
- 46:48He's not the typical guy that may be scared of doing that or
- 46:54doesn't have experience doing that.
- 46:55He's done that throughout his career.
- 46:58So he's awesome, man. He is, He's, he's like, he's
- 47:05lanky and like skinny and just, you know, just come right at you
- 47:09like, it's, it's pretty sweet. Yeah.
- 47:12It's quirky, dude. Yeah.
- 47:15All right. Looking ahead to Game 5, how do
- 47:20you, I mean you, you sort of touched on already, how do we,
- 47:23how do we feel about a Jack Flaherty, Gerrit Cole match up?
- 47:29You're not getting too pitcher pitchers duels between the same
- 47:32match up in the same series. Like I'm sorry, it's not going
- 47:35to happen. It's not going.
- 47:38To happen. It's October.
- 47:39Anything can happen, Anything can happen.
- 47:45Cole needs to be the best he's been all year.
- 47:51This is a must win thing. And I was saying last night I
- 47:54was like, you know, I kind of wish that he'll would have
- 47:58piggybacked off of Schmidt in game three.
- 48:01And then you run Cole back out for game four on three days
- 48:03rest. But the truth is, like, if the
- 48:06Yankees are going to pull this off, someone else in the
- 48:09rotation needed to do well enough for them to get the dub
- 48:12tonight. He'll did well enough.
- 48:16There's more so an offensive explosion.
- 48:18But like he did well enough. If you can follow that up with a
- 48:24dominant Cole outing, then you're going back to LA.
- 48:29Like that's got to feel the best it's felt.
- 48:33So that's that's my prediction. That's what I'm going with.
- 48:36I think I think Cole goes crazy. I think they get to Flaherty.
- 48:43But I think it's one of those games that are going to be it's
- 48:45going to tighten up towards the end.
- 48:47It's going to be, you know, what bullpen piece doesn't have it
- 48:52tonight. That's what it's that's the
- 48:54story tomorrow. It's going to come down to the
- 48:56pens. I, I hope and pray that they get
- 49:00this dub they mean in the Yankees.
- 49:03Just again to reiterate for the entertainment, because they, the
- 49:08Yankees were this close to making us look like idiots for
- 49:12hyping this World Series up this close.
- 49:15They have a chance to save it. At least get it back to LA at
- 49:22least that's the that's bare minimum.
- 49:24Just get it back to LA. It's all you got to do.
- 49:26Forget winning the thing, forget even whatever.
- 49:31Just get it back to LA. That's it.
- 49:35Time just one game at a time. That's it.
- 49:38That's all I ask. I don't, I don't necessarily
- 49:42have a prediction. I'm, I'm just going to, like I
- 49:45said, hope that this I, I, I'm not going to predict the Yankees
- 49:51win. As I've said in the past, I'm
- 49:54simply going to predict that the series gets extended another
- 49:58game. I think that that's put very
- 50:03diplomatically if you ask me. Super political answer.
- 50:07Yeah, very politician of you. Great cold start.
- 50:18Give me another Austin Wells home run.
- 50:24Give me a Judge home run. Do we think, do we think Freddie
- 50:28pushes it to seven? No, it's done.
- 50:31It ends at. You think it's done?
- 50:32OK, that's right. We're getting greedy.
- 50:34We're getting greedy there. He now holds the record.
- 50:37We don't need to extend that record.
- 50:40He doesn't need to go break his own record.
- 50:42Did you see that sign, by the way, tonight?
- 50:44It's like please stop. Freddie, stop, please.
- 50:49Just begging for mercy. So accurate.
- 50:53Hey, he said he said the thing that nobody wanted to say.
- 50:55So kudos to that guy. You know, he was saying what
- 50:59everybody was in that city. He was thinking, Oh.
- 51:03Man, you ever wonder what Freddie Freeman's arms look
- 51:07like? When was the last time we saw
- 51:09those? Homie loves the long sleeves
- 51:12man. I know, I mean right now it
- 51:14makes sense. It just just the thought any
- 51:17who's that's my that's my guess. Like I said, my prediction this
- 51:25series gets extended a game and go ahead and pencil and judge to
- 51:30the three hole. It it it doesn't that doesn't
- 51:35you know, it doesn't hit as strong now because he had like a
- 51:38couple good ABS. Whatever.
- 51:41The fact is a guy still sucks in the postseason.
- 51:43I'm not, I'm not, I'm not backing off of that stance.
- 51:46But you know, if he gets like a little RBI and garbage time and
- 51:50gets on via walk, whatever, it kind of takes away from the bit.
- 51:54But reality of it is a guy still sucks in the postseason that
- 51:58that's just that's just what it is.
- 52:01And we're going to hear, we're going to be we're going to be 50
- 52:04years old hearing about how he's on.
- 52:06He is. He is knocking on the door of
- 52:10breaking out in the postseason. He's going to be an O, He's
- 52:15going to be an O33 hitter in the postseason.
- 52:20He's going to be in the final year of his career, but he's
- 52:22going to be right there. That's my picture, that's my
- 52:28prediction. Such a hater.

- 52:35no matter the result. You have to make a we back.

- 52:54you had your Game 4 release. You got the win.
- 52:57It's under the belt. You had some positives to look
- 53:00back on tonight, but you're going to be in a good mood if
- 53:03they lose some if the Yankees lose tomorrow in Game 5.
- 53:05You know what? Shouldn't even be here.
- 53:08Shouldn't even be here. Don't stop.

- 53:28in. Cleveland, Yeah, The gauntlet.

- 53:33League Central. What a cake walk.
- 53:36What a. Shouldn't even be here.
- 53:38What a boys cake walk. The boys are here, though.
- 53:41I. Don't even think the Royals
- 53:42realized that there was games going on and then the Guardians
- 53:46just decided that they were going to embrace every quality
- 53:50of the American League Central and just decide to, you know,
- 53:52not be good, get at whatever. Shouldn't even be here.
- 53:58We back though. Oh the yeah, the ultimate
- 54:01Cinderella story the 2024 New York Yankees get.
