- 0:00Sean McAllister: Welcome to Vegas Revealed, episode 52.
- 0:03Dayna Roselli: Magic legend Siegfried Fischbacher passed away this week.
- 0:07Dayna Roselli: We talked to entertainment columnist John Castlomedes about the impact Siegfried and Roy's spectacular show had on Las Vegas.
- 0:15Sean McAllister: We also get an update on what's happening on the strip and off in Las Vegas when it comes to entertainment.
- 0:22Dayna Roselli: And the consumer electronic show known as CES carried on virtually this year, some of the cool products featured, and plans to bring it back to Las Vegas next year.
- 0:31Sean McAllister: All that and more right now on Vegas Revealed Hey there everyone.
- 0:59Sean McAllister: And I'm Sean McAllister, and I also wish that these warm temperatures were gonna stick around, but unfortunately it looks like it's just a a flash in the pan.
- 1:08Sean McAllister: We get teased with that nice spring weather, and then we dip right back down into the 50s and 40s.
- 1:16Sean McAllister: But you know what?
- 1:17Sean McAllister: If you're listening outside of Las Vegas, that probably still sounds like warm weather.
- 1:22Sean McAllister: So we shouldn't complain too much, but a taste of the 70s really is nice.
- 1:27Dayna Roselli: It's beautiful outside, I must say, and it makes, you know, living this kind of quarantined life a little bit easier when you can step outside the sun's shining and it's 70 degrees.
- 1:36Dayna Roselli: So we'll take it.
- 1:37Dayna Roselli: And you know, I feel for all the Bills fans because they don't know what that's like.
- 1:41Dayna Roselli: They live in Buffalo, New York, right?
- 1:42Dayna Roselli: And you and I were talking Buffalo Bills, because that's where we're both from.
- 1:45Dayna Roselli: We're from Rochester, New York, and we followed the Bills for many, many years, gone to Bills games.
- 1:50Dayna Roselli: I went to Fredonia, which was a summer camp for the Bills.
- 1:54Sean McAllister: Yeah, right there in Bills Territory.
- 1:56Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 1:56Sean McAllister: My sister went to school in Fredonia also.
- 1:59Sean McAllister: So we would go and and watch the training camps some years, and it really is fun.
- 2:06Sean McAllister: Western New York really is solid Bill's territory, and there's nothing like going and tailgating in the snow.
- 2:14Sean McAllister: In the snow.
- 2:15Sean McAllister: In those, it's just those wide open, flat parking lots outside of the stadium.
- 2:19Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I mean, and and we bring it up because uh, you know, it's been a while we've been able to really cheer for the Bills this far into it.
- 2:26Dayna Roselli: They are doing so well.
- 2:28Dayna Roselli: It's really brought up the energy, and we're seeing it all over Facebook and and Twitter and talking to our family and friends back home.
- 2:36Dayna Roselli: And and we weren't sure if everyone knew that, you know, Sean and I were from there, and we thought it's really cool to see, and you know, a couple places here in town as well that support the Bills.
- 2:45Dayna Roselli: Naked City is a great uh pizza place here in Las Vegas, and they also are from Buffalo, New York, and have been watching their Instagram feed and them saying, you know, they're doing doing events outdoors and they're they've got a tent up and everyone's watching the Bills game, so it's fun to see and follow.
- 3:03Sean McAllister: It is, and it's exciting to see the Bills get this far in the NFL because uh I know growing up when when it was Jim Kelly and Doug Flutie, like those were the glory days of the Buffalo Bills, and and we got so close, so close to winning the Super Bowl.
- 3:22Sean McAllister: And I think in Miami, the Miami Dolphins were always you know the arch rivals.
- 3:27Sean McAllister: Um, but it was Dan Marino, right?
- 3:29Sean McAllister: Was that with Dan Marino putting my chest?
- 3:33Sean McAllister: Way to fish is what we would always chant.
- 3:35Sean McAllister: Um, but it is, it's nice.
- 3:37Sean McAllister: I know everybody who is a Bills fan finally has this feeling of victory and like, oh my gosh, this could be the year that we do it.
- 3:46Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 3:46Dayna Roselli: It really is exciting.
- 3:47Dayna Roselli: And when we talk about, even when we talk about Jim Kelly and Doug Flutie, that was like a long time ago.
- 3:52Dayna Roselli: There's been plenty of other cat quarterbacks in between.
- 3:55Sean McAllister: There have.
- 3:56Dayna Roselli: But um, and yeah, I used to work for my first TV job.
- 4:00Dayna Roselli: I would go to the Bills Game locker room, and I was the camera, because I did the camera as well, for the quarterback press conference after the game.
- 4:10Dayna Roselli: Wow.
- 4:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I would go with two guys in the sports team and they would always say, We need a third hand, you know.
- 4:15Dayna Roselli: Can we get someone?
- 4:16Dayna Roselli: And so I was an anchor and reporter at the time.
- 4:17Dayna Roselli: I said, Well, I'll go.
- 4:18Dayna Roselli: So I would do the camera for Doug Flutie.
- 4:21Dayna Roselli: And so I have a little soft spot for Doug Flutie.
- 4:23Dayna Roselli: Um, because I was always at the because they they had to go in the locker room.
- 4:26Dayna Roselli: I couldn't go in the the football player locker room because I was a girl.
- 4:30Dayna Roselli: So anyway, but you know, I remember Doug Flutie, and he was always just such a great part of the Bills and so humble, and you know, the whole Hail Mary and just everything.
- 4:39Dayna Roselli: And and Jim Kelly days were amazing.
- 4:41Sean McAllister: Well, and I know that our listeners in Canada are are you know, they're very familiar with the name Doug Flutie because he came to the Buffalo Bills out of the Canadian Football League.
- 4:50Sean McAllister: So, you know, Doug Flutie is a a name that's known, you know, for for Bills fans and uh for football fans up in up in Canada.
- 5:00Sean McAllister: And you know, Dana, I was just looking because uh you mentioned the snow during Bills games in Orchard Park.
- 5:08Sean McAllister: That's where um the Buffalo Bills Stadium is.
- 5:11Sean McAllister: The snowiest game that the Buffalo Bills played, it was back in 2017.
- 5:17Sean McAllister: They were playing the Indianapolis Colts.
- 5:20Sean McAllister: Just guess how much snow fell during the game.
- 5:23Dayna Roselli: I remember images, but I have no idea.
- 5:25Sean McAllister: So it was between eight and nine inches of snow fell during the game alone for that what a three-hour span of time.
- 5:34Sean McAllister: Ultimately, that storm dumped about 16 inches of snow.
- 5:40Sean McAllister: My gosh.
- 5:40Sean McAllister: Do you miss it?
- 5:41Dayna Roselli: No, I really, really don't.
- 5:43Dayna Roselli: And everyone's like, oh, it's fun.
- 5:45Dayna Roselli: It's the whole part of it.
- 5:46Dayna Roselli: I hated it.
- 5:47Dayna Roselli: It just, you know, I didn't mind it when I was a kid, but you know, as I got older and older, I'm like, I'm over this.
- 5:52Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's pretty to look at from the window, but well, that's why we live in Las Vegas now, and we tell people you don't have to shovel sunshine.
- 5:59Dayna Roselli: And you know who else lives in Las Vegas is OJ Simpson, and sometimes he goes out to watch the Bills games being a former Bills player.
- 6:07Dayna Roselli: Um, but you know, mentioning OJ too much is kind of maybe a waste of time, but just heads up everyone.
- 6:14Sean McAllister: The juice is loose again right here in Las Vegas.
- 6:16Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 6:16Dayna Roselli: And he has plenty to say on his Twitter account if you want to follow OJ.
- 6:19Dayna Roselli: He usually does a little uh football analysis on there.
- 6:22Dayna Roselli: I don't follow, but I'll admit every every now and then I have I go sneak a peek and listen because it's you know, what do you call that?
- 6:30Dayna Roselli: When it's it's so bad it's good.
- 6:31Sean McAllister: It's like a train wreck.
- 6:32Sean McAllister: Yeah, I mean, we'll just like when you pass a car crash, you're shocked you can't help but look.
- 6:36Dayna Roselli: Yeah, you're shocked they're speaking and giving their two cents on a bunch of different subjects, but then you can't put it down.
- 6:42Dayna Roselli: So uh yes, the juice lives in Las Vegas and and he's he's a big fan of the Bills.
- 6:47Sean McAllister: And so uh some sports figures we are proud of here in Las Vegas are the Vegas Golden Knights.
- 6:52Sean McAllister: NHL Action is back on the ice.
- 6:55Sean McAllister: Our Vegas Golden Knights uh they're back at it.
- 6:58Sean McAllister: They won their first game against uh the Anaheim Ducks.
- 7:03Sean McAllister: Okay, and uh now they're on to play uh the Coyotes this week down in Arizona for a four-game stand.
- 7:12Dayna Roselli: That's exciting.
- 7:13Dayna Roselli: There were what 55 games left, I think they said now.
- 7:15Dayna Roselli: We've officially kicked off.
- 7:16Dayna Roselli: And yeah, and when you and I were just chatting about Arizona, they let fans in the arena, right?
- 7:21Sean McAllister: Yeah, and actually I I misspoke.
- 7:24Sean McAllister: It's four games against the coyotes, but the first two are down in Arizona, the second two games are here in Las Vegas.
- 7:31Sean McAllister: But if Vegas fans want to go down, they can.
- 7:33Sean McAllister: There are tickets available down there in uh in Phoenix.
- 7:39Sean McAllister: You know, I think they're allowing 3,500 fans inside of the arena there.
- 7:44Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 7:45Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's a great road trip, it's close by.
- 7:48Dayna Roselli: If you're looking to get out of town and you do it safely, why not, right?
- 7:52Dayna Roselli: Go support the team.
- 7:53Dayna Roselli: I have a feeling a lot of people are gonna head there from Las Vegas.
- 7:56Sean McAllister: It wouldn't surprise me.
- 7:57Sean McAllister: No, not at all.
- 7:58Sean McAllister: And I know, oh, I was so disappointed after about I don't know, a few hours before the first game here in Las Vegas.
- 8:09Sean McAllister: This was, you know, last week, the Golden Knights were playing, and the team put out a tweet saying, hey, if you're at home and you're making and if you can make a sign and drop it off at the arena before 1 30 on game day, we'll try and put up as many signs as we can up against the glass.
- 8:30Sean McAllister: And I I didn't see any signs ultimately up against the glass during the broadcast, so I'm guessing that not many people were able to get their signs down there by the deadline.
- 8:39Sean McAllister: But it it makes me wonder if that's something that they're going to be doing on a regular basis now.
- 8:44Dayna Roselli: I bet.
- 8:45Sean McAllister: So if fans want to make their sign, go drop it off inside the the front doors of the arena.
- 8:50Dayna Roselli: Listen, they're a fabulous organization.
- 8:52Dayna Roselli: They always find ways to get the fans involved.
- 8:56Dayna Roselli: I think, you know, I'm gonna say better better than any other team out there, but you know, their social media is on point, and I think during these times to keep the fans engaged, keep the fans interested, have the players feel the support, they're gonna need to do things like that.
- 9:10Dayna Roselli: I think it's a great idea.
- 9:12Sean McAllister: And they're also, in addition to uh the games being televised on AT ⁇ T net here in Las Vegas, um, they're also doing a Facebook simulcast so that when the game goes to commercial breaks, they have Mark Chinook, who's the the in arena host when you're there at the games, he's hosting the um uh kind of the festivities during period breaks and during commercial breaks from there inside the arena.
- 9:43Sean McAllister: So they're doing this multi-screen broadcast for the Golden Knights games, which is such a great idea.
- 9:49Dayna Roselli: So fun, yeah.
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: It keeps everyone engaged.
- 9:51Dayna Roselli: And and now we have a okay, so I didn't get this part, Sean.
- 9:54Dayna Roselli: I follow the Knights, I I see as many games as I can.
- 9:56Dayna Roselli: I love you know the team.
- 9:59Dayna Roselli: And the one thing that confused me a little and I didn't look into the other day they said that Mark Stone is the first captain.
- 10:05Dayna Roselli: So did we not have a captain before?
- 10:07Sean McAllister: We did not.
- 10:08Dayna Roselli: Okay, that that makes sense.
- 10:09Dayna Roselli: That's what I assumed, but I didn't know if there was more to that.
- 10:11Sean McAllister: Yeah, so no, we never had um a a captain under Girard Gallant, the the former head coach of the Golden Knights.
- 10:20Sean McAllister: I think was it midway through last season when Pete De Boer came in?
- 10:24Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 10:25Sean McAllister: From San Jose.
- 10:27Sean McAllister: It was like forever ago.
- 10:28Sean McAllister: I know.
- 10:28Sean McAllister: I the timeline of things is.
- 10:30Sean McAllister: Was it last season or the season before?
- 10:31Sean McAllister: I don't know.
- 10:34Sean McAllister: Because of COVID.
- 10:35Sean McAllister: And I I honestly don't remember what the timeline was, but um that was something it was a holdover from the inaugural season when there wasn't a team captain.
- 10:47Sean McAllister: There were certainly notable faces and there were veteran players who were pushed to the forefront, but um there was no designated captain that has changed this season, as you mentioned.
- 10:58Dayna Roselli: Okay, I love that.
- 10:59Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 11:00Dayna Roselli: Congratulations to Mark Stone.
- 11:01Dayna Roselli: It's always good to have a leader on the team.
- 11:03Dayna Roselli: So we look forward to more Golden Knights games.
- 11:06Dayna Roselli: Gonna keep us busy, able to watch them on TV, and like you said, the Facebook shows will be cool too.
- 11:10Dayna Roselli: So speaking of uh Facebook, virtual, you know, behind the scenes things, uh CES back this year, but not back in Las Vegas, it was a big virtual event, which seems appropriate since it's the consumer electronics show.
- 11:24Dayna Roselli: It does.
- 11:24Sean McAllister: I was thinking the exact same thing.
- 11:26Sean McAllister: I was like, if if any convention is going to go virtual, it may as well be CES because they kind of already do that even while the convention is happening here in Las Vegas under normal circumstances.
- 11:41Dayna Roselli: And this year they did introduce some really cool products.
- 11:44Dayna Roselli: So a couple, well, I should say a few.
- 11:47Dayna Roselli: There's a good three that Sean and I really loved and wanted to share with you.
- 11:52Dayna Roselli: And one was this LG and TCL rollable smartphone.
- 11:57Dayna Roselli: So I was like, what does that mean?
- 11:58Dayna Roselli: But it's you pull out the screen to make it bigger from your phone, because you know, sometimes it's just not enough on the small screen.
- 12:04Sean McAllister: Right.
- 12:05Sean McAllister: So I mean, I there has been talk about um a phone with a rollable screen over the past couple years.
- 12:13Sean McAllister: I know that you and I, Dana, were both over on the convention floor at CES last year.
- 12:19Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 12:20Sean McAllister: Um, and there were TVs that have the rollable screen that they roll either up or down, either up out of a cabinet or down out of a rolling unit.
- 12:31Sean McAllister: Um it's really thin.
- 12:33Sean McAllister: I don't know what material it's made out of.
- 12:35Sean McAllister: That's way over my head.
- 12:37Dayna Roselli: Leave that up to them.
- 12:38Sean McAllister: But it really is, I mean, such a crisp, clear picture.
- 12:42Sean McAllister: And um people are wondering how the technology will ultimately work in a phone setting.
- 12:52Sean McAllister: Right.
- 12:52Sean McAllister: I guess.
- 12:52Sean McAllister: I don't even know how to say that.
- 12:54Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 12:54Sean McAllister: Phone application, I guess.
- 12:56Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 12:56Dayna Roselli: Well, and you know, CES is usually it it's where they debut products that will usually come out soon.
- 13:02Dayna Roselli: Sometimes there's some that are already out there, but usually looking ahead, so sometimes there's little tweaks that can still be made and they introduce it and see if there's, you know, uh, you know, a reason that people definitely w want this, and then you know, they go to market.
- 13:16Dayna Roselli: But but it's great to see all the new technology, and that definitely seems like something that could be used, especially for business people that are on the go, they're traveling a lot.
- 13:26Dayna Roselli: Because then you gotta bring you've got to bring the the iPad, you've got to bring the phone, you gotta bring the laptop, and sometimes it can get a lot, but you just pull your screen out and make it bigger, even better.
- 13:34Sean McAllister: It would be nice for travel for sure.
- 13:36Sean McAllister: Um, one of the other products that that caught our eye was the Samsung Bot Handy.
- 13:43Sean McAllister: So this is a household robot that kind of helps you with your day-to-day chores.
- 13:48Sean McAllister: It'll go around the house and it'll pick up your laundry.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Love that.
- 13:53Sean McAllister: Help you make the bed, it can uh help put dishes in the dishwasher.
- 13:57Sean McAllister: But Dana, the one thing that impressed me the most about bot handy is that it can pour you a glass of wine.
- 14:09Dayna Roselli: That is the best.
- 14:10Dayna Roselli: I mean, can you imagine?
- 14:12Dayna Roselli: And especially if it's like programmed to do it, I don't know if it feels you out or it's got like a certain time that it pours the wine.
- 14:18Dayna Roselli: Like you come home at five o'clock, the wine gets poured by 520.
- 14:21Dayna Roselli: I don't know how that works.
- 14:22Sean McAllister: Well, I'm sure that it can work however you want it to.
- 14:25Sean McAllister: Right.
- 14:26Sean McAllister: This robot is there to serve.
- 14:28Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh, I love it.
- 14:29Dayna Roselli: So, yeah, the bot handy is still in development, apparently, no definitive price or sales date at the moment, because like we said, they introduce a lot of products there.
- 14:37Dayna Roselli: So hopefully this will come to fruition because I think a lot of people that probably have some money would appreciate having the bot around the house instead of a stranger coming in to clean the house and do chores, right?
- 14:50Sean McAllister: It would be great.
- 14:51Sean McAllister: And and by the way, go to our Vegas Revealed YouTube channel in our uh rapid update.
- 14:58Sean McAllister: We have some video to show you um what some of these products look like in action.
- 15:05Sean McAllister: Um, one of the other things that that caught our eye, not only is it, you know, cars and health devices and robots to help with chores and all this technology stuff, lifestyle technology has really become a main focus at CES.
- 15:23Sean McAllister: And among the lifestyle products that we're seeing this year are smart refrigerators.
- 15:29Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh.
- 15:30Dayna Roselli: So I was like, what does that mean?
- 15:32Dayna Roselli: Like how?
- 15:33Dayna Roselli: Like, how can a refrigerator be smart, right?
- 15:36Dayna Roselli: So then we looked into it, and it's this LG InstaView Thin Q refrigerator with voice recognition.
- 15:45Dayna Roselli: So apparently, you know, you can tell it what to do, like to open the refrigerator door.
- 15:49Dayna Roselli: Like you come in with all your bags, and usually you've got to put them down, walk over to the door, open the door, it's a whole process.
- 15:55Dayna Roselli: Well, now you can just have the bags in your hand, tell the refrigerator door to open, and you can just put them right in.
- 16:00Sean McAllister: I mean, it that's pretty cool.
- 16:01Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 16:02Sean McAllister: It's kind of like uh the back tailgate on a lot of vehicles now, on some SUVs.
- 16:09Sean McAllister: You know, when when those first came out, people were like, Do we really need a tailgate that opens on its own?
- 16:15Sean McAllister: Right.
- 16:16Sean McAllister: But in practice, in in actual real life use, it actually does come in really handy.
- 16:22Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I was noticing it can do create this shopping list for you when apparently your common items, like the ones that you normally get, start to get low, so it can let you know.
- 16:31Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 16:31Dayna Roselli: I mean, but we don't have to think at all anymore.
- 16:33Sean McAllister: We don't.
- 16:35Sean McAllister: And it's so great.
- 16:36Sean McAllister: I love it.
- 16:37Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 16:38Dayna Roselli: Well, listen, the good news is as well, is that uh CES is going to be back in Las Vegas for 2022.
- 16:45Dayna Roselli: So we definitely are excited about that.
- 16:48Dayna Roselli: We love when CES comes to Las Vegas because everyone comes into town and they go to shows and they gamble and they eat out of the restaurants and they go to the convention.
- 16:57Dayna Roselli: So again, it will return to Las Vegas in 2022.
- 17:02Sean McAllister: This week we got the sad news here in Las Vegas that longtime entertainer Siegfried Fischbacher of the famous illusion duo Siegfried and Roy passed away.
- 17:13Sean McAllister: And really, sad news, especially since it comes in such close proximity to losing Roy Horn.
- 17:20Dayna Roselli: That's right, and we've got John Castlemedes from the Review Journal with us today.
- 17:24Dayna Roselli: Because, you know, when we heard the news, we thought, who has the most background information on Siegfried and Roy that we know?
- 17:30Dayna Roselli: And immediately we thought of cats.
- 17:32Dayna Roselli: Cats, when did you find out?
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Uh early this morning.
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: You know, early this morning.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: The news originally broke in an interesting way.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: Uh in uh build uh publication in Germany.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: And that's uh that's a publication that um covers Siegfried and Roy.
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: Uh the reporters there are no uh Siegfried's sister who's a nun in that region.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: And Siegfried's sister's sister Dolora has talked to all the guys with talked to Siegfried over the years.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: And every time he talks to Siegfried, he turns around and talks to Bild.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: And Bild writes a story in German.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: And we take the story and translate it from German to English and see if there's anything to it, and then we confirm it independently.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: That's what happened here.
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: That's what happened with the story.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: So it goes from uh little Bavaria in Las Vegas, Nevada to overseas to Germany.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: Bavaria Las Vegas.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: He had been recovering from pancreatic cancer uh for uh since at least December.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: Or on uh I should say on uh Wednesday night uh at about 11 30 p.m.
- 18:57Sean McAllister: That is quite the chain of events for us to get the news here in the States.
- 19:03Sean McAllister: Um I'm wondering, Kat, was it widely known that Siegfried had pancreatic cancer?
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: No, he was very private about this.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: It only broke uh last week.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: I think it was uh you know, probably it was out there probably about four or three or four days before he passed, so it was pretty quickly and he had been retreated, and then he had undergone uh surgery to remove a tumor, and then after that surgery he was uh released in hospice care at their stage here in Las Vegas.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: It happened for the time because pretty quick after he learned about cancer treatment.
- 19:41Dayna Roselli: And Ficry and Roy, they've always been such private people, obviously, you know, out there in front of the world when they were performing on stage and at events, but when it came to their personal life, I always felt like they really had the privacy down.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know what it was?
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Looking back on them, they were very uh in a certain way, they were public and in the spotlight all the time when they were public.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: When they were in public, they were available, accessible, they were stars, they understood that.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: But when they were not, it was it was very uh very private life they led to even after Roy and halfway world, you know.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: That was the only time we were in public reading for the public after Roy died in May 8.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: So they were a lot of mystique there.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: A lot of mystique.
- 20:45Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and you know, we were writing up a post for Instagram.
- 20:47Dayna Roselli: Uh obviously we've seen him around town many, many times.
- 20:50Dayna Roselli: Sean had a great picture with uh Siegfried and Roy.
- 20:53Dayna Roselli: We were looking to post it and going, okay, what do we write?
- 20:55Dayna Roselli: How do we how do we describe Siegfried and Roy?
- 20:58Dayna Roselli: And we thought, you know, they really put magic on the map in Las Vegas.
- 21:02Dayna Roselli: Would you agree?
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think that they advanced magic.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: Magic existed primarily as a side act in Las Vegas.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Um and as a live and live shows probably everywhere.
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: Uh you know, as part of a larger show, as part of a variety show, and in Las Vegas as part of the adult introduction.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: You know, things like uh Legal Fruiture and Lego D3, and you know, later on uh with Jubilee.
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: Magicians had about a 10 or 15 minute, maybe 20 minute slot in the context of that show.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: So you'd have musical numbers, and then you'd have a side act, and then you have another musical number, and then you'd have a secret roid, and then another musical number, then you'd have a you know a last side, and four side act that would split up into a larger production, which read roid it would threw that from that uh format into uh their own big show.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: That was uh beyond belief at the frontier that was in nineteen eighty one.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: Before that, live magic had uh Large scale in and of itself for you know an hour and a half was a pretty rare concept.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: You know, it had not been done in Las Vegas as a residency show ever.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: So they that's what they established.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: And when they did that, uh magicians came from everywhere.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: Magicians Las Vegas became the magic mecca.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: You know, we had all kinds of magicians come to town because they saw the kind of success that Siegfried and Roy were having.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: But um, you know, I think what really set them apart was their use of animals.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: You know, that nobody could use the the exotic animals the way they did.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: And uh that really set them apart.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: That was the only place you could really get a large-scale show with exotic big cats was Siegfried and Roy in Las Vegas.
- 22:42Sean McAllister: And even after their show closed following that onstage tiger attack, uh Siegfried and Roy really remained fierce advocates for the cats, didn't they?
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they were um, you know, they were very much uh they promoted the care of those rare animals.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: I know that.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: You know, they they uh they wanted to show the public that these were special creatures, and uh and that's why they used them in the way they did.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: And and the later years uh at the uh secret garden habitat, uh it was really apparent there.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: Roy was really the one who introduced exotic animals into the into the format, into the the duo originally.
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: He had a cheetah on the ship that they worked on.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: Somehow he commandeered a cheetah and brought it on the ship when they were working as uh in a restaurant as servers and they both knew how to do magic, but uh uh Siegfried was working with birds, you know, and uh Roy said, Well, I have an uh animal also, and he took him into his uh his cabin and he had a cheetah in there, and they started working with that animal, and that was how the animals started in the in the act.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: But you think about the odds of these guys finding each other in life.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: You know, it's it's really amazing that these two people met each other.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: You know, this is the days before there was any kind of network where two guys with like interests that are so specific and so unique would ever pair up.
- 24:08unknown: Right.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: These guys happened to find each other out there in the universe.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: Germans, same interest, same drive, uh, you know, same personality type.
- 24:16SPEAKER_03: And uh it was it's some pretty incredible uh uh story, just and a great story of uh of immigrants, you know.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: Las Vegas, United States, too.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: There's that angle also.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: It's a story for all time.
- 24:31Dayna Roselli: Well, and they were, you know, partners on stage, partners in life, best friends, really inseparable.
- 24:38Dayna Roselli: And, you know, when I heard the news this morning about Siegfried, I thought, I don't know if I'm surprised because I really felt when Roy passed away that it wouldn't be much longer and that Siegfried wouldn't be able to go on.
- 24:50Dayna Roselli: Obviously, he had cancer.
- 24:52Dayna Roselli: But, you know, they just really needed to function together.
- 24:55Dayna Roselli: They were such a team.
- 24:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh, in my conversation the last time I talked to Siegfried at the sign uh dedication, it was very apparent that he was so sorrowful that um not only that Roy was not with him, but the way that Roy wasn't able to kind of um initiate or orchestrate or control his his final days, they had to take him out of Little Bavaria and had to have him in ICU to treat him for COVID.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: And he really didn't like that.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: Siegfried didn't.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: And uh he was he was very, you know.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: Uh the last time he talked to Roy, the last words Roy said to Siegfried were, Don't let them take me.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: Because they were checking they were bringing him out of the Little Bavaria estate uh in an in a in an ambulance.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: So I think that the fact that he was able to stay there and pass away in his own way was sort of a you know uh inspired by the way uh Roy went out.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: But and and talking to um Bernie Human today, you know, we know Bernie is their longtime editor, he he did reiterate that he goes, there was no uh they had to be one.
- 25:55SPEAKER_03: There was no other alternative.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: There was never a Siegfried and Roy uh there was never a Siegfried act away from Siegfried and Roy.
- 26:02SPEAKER_03: There was never a Roy without Siegfried.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: And you think about how long it was after Roy was taken out of uh entertainment, and Siegfried was still capable of putting on live shows for sure.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: And there was never an idea to split that brand and and do that.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: They never performed a ticketed show apart from each other, which is pretty remarkable since the 19 since they got here in 1967.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: And uh so that's uh that's a commitment to a person and a commitment to a legacy and a commitment to a brand and a production.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: And uh it's it it doesn't happen anymore.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: All you look at all these duos over the years, at some point somebody did something solo, you know.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: They all did, you know, everybody has.
- 26:46Sean McAllister: And that's so interesting.
- 26:47Sean McAllister: I was just thinking about legacy.
- 26:50Sean McAllister: And when you have entertainers of the stature of Siegfried and Roy, you would think that each individual entertainer would then carry their own legacy, but that's not the case.
- 27:01Sean McAllister: They they pretty much have a combined legacy.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you'd look at uh, you know, uh you look at something like Penn and Teller, for example, you know, their you know, a magic duo.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: They've been they've had that brand together and they are they do what they do.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: It's a lot different than Siegfried and Roy.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: But they've also had their independent, you know, uh Penn's written books, and Teller had the Tempest here in Las Vegas that he produced.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: It was kind of, you know, Teller uh Teller had the Tempest that he produced, and Penn supported it, but it was really a Teller project.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: They've done things independently.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: Uh Siegfried and Roy, there was no Siegfried autobiography, there was no Siegfried TV special, there was never a Siegfried uh magic book, you know, any other any product, magic kit.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: Uh and uh and I know that this is true.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: This is not just these guys, they just wanted to enforce a brand.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: They were definitely an interlocked couple, team, pair, whatever you want to say about them, confidant.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, I told the story, and I'm telling it to my phone, it's coming out tomorrow, about seeing them at Las Vegas Athletic Club.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: Um, I used to see them, and they would bring Roy in, and uh the woman, um, the care the caregiver named Melody, who would was always with them too, and sometimes Lynette, but uh Annette Chappelle, but Siegfried was always there, and he would roll in with Roy in his sweats, and they'd come through the locker room, and they were just they would go get into the VIP area and dress down and come back out, and they'd go to the treadmill and work out.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: And there was no audience for this.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: There was no other reason for Siegfried to be involved other than to motivate Roy in his rehabilitation.
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: And uh, you know, I mean that's a real thing.
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: That's real friendship.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: You know, there was no ticket to be sold, no money to be made, no TV show, no cameras following them around at this point.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: It was just those guys.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: And uh, I remember seeing them at uh one time I was I was getting up from a bench to to go out and work out.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: I was just standing up and I stood up, and these guys came around the corner and I went, I've we've met Siegfried face to face in the gym, you know.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: I'm like, whoa! I go, what are you doing here?
- 29:14SPEAKER_03: And he goes, You are stucking us.
- 29:16SPEAKER_03: I go, I go, I'm not that dedicated.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: Are you kidding me?
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: He's like he yells it, and the whole gym turns around, you know.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: Like, you guys are killing me if you think I'm following you to this gym.
- 29:31Dayna Roselli: Well, I guess at least you know where you needed to go if you needed a soundbite, right?
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: He was so funny because he was always Siegfried, uh, especially was always put upon.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: You always pretend to be put upon by, you know, I want to interview him, and I would, you know, I'd be in an interview with him.
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: I say, hey, I want to get a few uh uh moments for uh from you about the biopic, or I want to ask you about you know whatever they had going on.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: And uh I say, so what's going on?
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: What's the latest script?
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: Always with the questions, always, always.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: I go, that's what I do.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: You knew I was gonna ask you about this, and you pretend to be so put upon, you know.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: And I go, if you didn't want to be famous, he shouldn't have been famous, all right?
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: But he was a star, man.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm writing about for tomorrow.
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: You saw this guy walk across a room, and I think Danny, you both you guys have seen this, where you he walked across a room at a gala, you knew this man was somebody.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: It looks like the light was following him, right?
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Yep, it's true.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: Straight up his hand on his belt, walking through, waving at people.
- 30:28Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 30:30Sean McAllister: Well, and and I don't know if it's ironic or fitting that we've lost arguably two of the biggest global entertainers that are tied to Vegas at a time when entertainment has in some ways died here in Las Vegas.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're definitely in a on a, you know, and I think I was thinking about this today, too, with all the the changes we've had anyway, you know, and it and uh Siegfried passing away and a lot of uh you know an entertainment being come almost totally an an idol right now.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: And uh, you know, we and we lost uh you know the uh Sheldon Adelson, one of the uh groundbreaking resort pioneers in our city and philanthropic figures, and so, so connected to Las Vegas and Siegfried and Roy, this huge international brand.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm thinking about this, yeah.
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: It's it's like we're, you know, and I've got I'm getting texts from our friends that are saying, you know, God, old Vegas is dying out.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, I'm thinking, well, we're at a pause right now anyway.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: It's time for us to really understand something here in the city, and that is that there's there's a new era of Las Vegas that's going to be coming in, whether we've planned for it or not.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: There's gonna be a next generation of Las Vegas when this is all over with, and it won't be the next Siegfried and Roy, maybe.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: It'll we will learn from that and we'll we'll own it.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: But we're going into a territory now where we recover, where we take advantage of uh of the opportunity to restart the city and create a new version of Las Vegas.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: And I think this is all happening uh leading into that, you know, uh as sad as everything can be.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: I think that that was that's what we're seeing right now.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: I think that there's a new version of the city, a new incarnation of Las Vegas where it matures a little bit, where it's not the same as it was before uh COVID, and uh where there's new faces, new figures, new energy, you know, new ideas, new concepts about what the city can be.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: But I I do think that Las Vegas is going to maintain its position as an international tourism destination.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: And we have Siegfried and Roy uh to credit for all for starting that, you know.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: Their showman ships help put Las Vegas, set it apart as a as a very glitzy and glamorous place.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: So we just build on it, you know?
- 32:41Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I think that's so true.
- 32:42Dayna Roselli: I mean, I feel like at this point that we're at now, we really have no idea what the future does hold for Las Vegas or what way it's gonna go.
- 32:51Dayna Roselli: You know, it's all seemed at first like we were gonna just get back and get going and things would be exactly the same.
- 32:56Dayna Roselli: We were in this short pause, but now that it goes on longer and longer, I think it's hard to visualize what Las Vegas will be in the next, you know, year or so.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think I think part of it is as we talk about something like a Siegfried and Roy, we won't have uh at least, you know, in the in the next generation of Las Vegas, that a Siegfried and Roy type residency show.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: You know, those days are in the past.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: We're gonna it's gonna be a new uh kind of entertainment that's gonna be, you know, probably uh smaller, you know, it's gonna be more uh you know, close up, intimate, whatever term you want to use.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: Or inexpensive.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, less expensive, more, you know, and more, you know, and more fluid.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's uh it's some of the ideas we've had, the projects and concepts around have been, you know, you stay for 45 minutes and then you go off to dinner, you go to dinner and go to see something for a short period of time and then go off to the next big thing.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: You know, I I use the term ninja.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: Las Vegas has to be ninja when it comes out of this.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: We can't just be this giant aircraft carrier of a city, this behemoth, with, you know, we're gonna have these giant shows everywhere.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: You know, it's gonna be more um, you know, more targeted, you know, more nuanced, a little bit, you know, uh, you know, more inventive.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: And I think that I think people are gonna be entertaining each other in Las Vegas when this is over with.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: There's no question about that.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: There they will find a way to do that.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: Um, and you if you you know, it's funny, we were talking about this whole thing with spectacle and scope and everything.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: The last thing that that uh Siegfried ever did as a performance at all to entertain human beings was this little coin trick that he did would do, where he'd grab your forearm and all of a sudden he'd make a coin disappear out of your arm, one of those little Siegfried and Roy tokens.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: He would do that at the secret garden, you know, and just do that with kids or tourists, you know.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: That was his odd little audience.
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: Of all this stuff that they did, these million dollar, billion-dollar, you know, productions over the years, that was how he uh he ended up entertaining people at the end.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: So, you know, he found a way to do it.
- 35:04Sean McAllister: And John, while we have you, I want to switch gears and talk about entertainment overall and how the entertainment scene is looking as we look at a city that's kind of struggling to crawl back to some kind of normal here.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, that's uh well, I can tell you, and uh I've been having a lot of conversations, uh, as I always do with with people in the industry.
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, I will tell you that generally speaking, we what needs to happen for entertainment to c start coming back to any significant degree is to have the um public gathering restrictions expanded again to 250 like they were before.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: You know, and I know that's a very tough thing for people to to you know endorse maybe right now because of the COVID numbers that we're looking at.
- 35:50SPEAKER_03: But um there's a way producers are telling me, entertainers are telling me there's a way to do this safely.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: There's a way to get 250 people into a room and watch a show safely that is in uh that is consistent with the other protocols that the state has allowed in casinos and and uh in other, you know, in other public places and and even outdoors like on Fremont Street Experience, in airplanes, that kind of thing.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: But until that happens, if we stay at 50, we're gonna be just almost latent or almost where we are.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: Uh it's very difficult for 50 people to um for for a show to play to 50 people, especially with the distance directives, the 25-foot distance I've been harping on for a while now between the stage and the audience.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: Um so given that, until that can happen, um, we do have a little bit of activity.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: And a lot of it is uh there's a lot of it off the off the strip.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: You know, there's a there's a little there's a there's kind of an an off-Broadway style cabaret club called Cork and Thorn.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: I've been hitting a little bit lately.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: Uh small place at downtown Las Vegas on Imperial Avenue, just off of uh uh between Maine and Commerce.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: It's like a service alley between those streets.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: You go in there and it's really cool.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: It's very cool.
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: And they've got a killer band set up there, and Sky Miles has been singing on Wednesdays.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: That's going on.
- 37:13SPEAKER_03: That's the kind of thing you see.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: The Vegas room and the commercial center where we've we've uh uh been.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: They're expanding their uh programming and they're gonna be uh and Jason Allen, our friend, is gonna be uh the entertainment director there from uh Mayfair Separate Club.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: So he's bringing in a lot of uh uh a lot of talent.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: Jamie Hosner, people like that are coming in.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: This guy again is gonna be in there, Philip Officer is uh is gonna be in there.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: They're doing brunch.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: And on the strip, I will tell you that uh Thunder from Down Under is opening again this weekend with 50 to 50 people with a uh mail review at Excalibur.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: That's happening, and they're gonna be doing uh I think eight shows a week uh at Thunderland.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: Uh that's at Adam Steck's Spy Entertainment.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: So they're back.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: Uh Brad Garrett's Comedy Club uh has returned um a couple of weeks ago at MGM Grand.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: He's putting comics to work in the underground at MGM Grand, his original club.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: Uh X Burlesque has reopened what they call uh it's a private show.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: It's a private show for uh an audience of 30, uh 15 uh cocktail tables, bank uh banquet, no cocktail tables, I should say.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: Uh two people per table, and they're running their full show like they did before, except everybody's in masks, and that includes comedian Nancy Ryan.
- 38:30SPEAKER_03: So they've returned.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: I just wrote a column about that.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: That was uh a noble performance.
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: It was it was bold, and uh, but it was great.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: We had a great time, and that at you know the holdovers include Tape Face is still at Harris Showroom, um X Country is still at um at the Harris Cabaret, and uh a lot of lounge act some lounge activity.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: The uh Les Cabaret at Paris, Las Vegas is activated on the weekends, as is Indigo at Bally's and Napoleon's uh uh dueling pianos.
- 39:03SPEAKER_03: So those that's where your entertainment is right now.
- 39:05SPEAKER_03: Notoriety, Ken Henderson's place is still going at the yeah, and uh and there's also programming at Alexis Park, by the way.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: Full shows, uh Motown Tribute, uh burlesque show that's opening, that has opened this weekend, uh, that uh Pete Housley's producing.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: That's uh those are those are also new shows.
- 39:21Dayna Roselli: All the scantily clad shows are coming back, go figure.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, and Ozzy, well there's a there's an adult show at Alexis Park, and Ozzie Heat is still at uh at Mosaic.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: Uh it's not a it's a it's a standalone place, but uh yeah, you can dance yeah, you can dance with a mask on and be distant and still uh entertained.
- 39:41SPEAKER_03: So even at strip clubs?
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't know.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: I don't think there's any well I shouldn't say that.
- 39:48SPEAKER_03: I shouldn't say that because uh Jen Romus's uh sexy show has been performing at um Larry Flints Larry Flint's Hustler Club.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: Uh Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
- 39:57SPEAKER_03: And I've been to that show.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: I'll tell you what, guys, man, it is fun.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: It is, they work out that room.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: It's like holy mackerel.
- 40:07SPEAKER_03: I said obviously, it should be obvious, but I will reiterate that room was built for that kind of content.
- 40:13Sean McAllister: Yeah, it was literally built for it.
- 40:16Sean McAllister: There's a pole in play.
- 40:18Dayna Roselli: Yeah, putting the sin back in Sin City, that's for sure.
- 40:22Dayna Roselli: But listen, you running down that huge long list of things that there are to do, I think when we think of Las Vegas right now, we feel like, well, there's gaming and there's restaurants, but nothing else.
- 40:32Dayna Roselli: But there are things to do if you're a local or if you're visiting Las Vegas, you just need to seek it out.
- 40:37SPEAKER_03: You do.
- 40:37SPEAKER_03: You have to, yeah, you have to do your homework.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: And I'll tell you, there's some really cool stuff.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: I bring up Cork and Thorne, I bring up the Vegas room.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: Um, we have Broadway talent in the the Vegas room.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: Like Randall Keith has been performing in there, you know.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's like uh Michelle Johnson.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: I go on and on about Ruby Lewis.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, these are very, you know, they maybe aren't superstar headliners, but they're super talented.
- 41:01unknown: Yes.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: And uh the comics that are on stage are are are very good.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: The ones that are they've been performing at the Notoriety, the LA Comedy Club has been bringing people in too, I should say, at the uh stratosphere.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: Strat.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: Uh we have quite a bit more than people really appreciate.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: But the pr the thing about Las Vegas is as you know, when you have more than a hundred shows going, or upwards of 150 shows going every night, you know, uh forever each week, it seems like when you take all you know most of them off the stage, they're all gone.
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: But there's still a you know quite a bit of stuff going on when you compare it that way.
- 41:35Dayna Roselli: So and I wanted to ask you, what about Rose Rabbit Lie at the Cosmopolitan?
- 41:40Dayna Roselli: It's a restaurant, it's got entertainment, and I saw you post recently that they're taking a pause.
- 41:45Dayna Roselli: And I wasn't sure.
- 41:46Dayna Roselli: I'm hoping it's just a pause.
- 41:48Dayna Roselli: Do they plan on coming back?
- 41:49SPEAKER_03: I yeah, we love it.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: Um I learned when I made that post, I wrote a column about it, and then I made the post, I think it was on Instagram.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: It might have even been in the Twitter post as well.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: I used the term indefinite, they're indefinite pausing indefinitely.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: The word indefinite, I think people saw that and said that I meant forever, which is not the definition of indefinite, but I'd had to change the word because so many people were confused by it.
- 42:15SPEAKER_03: It's on temporary pause.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: It's a it's on pause.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: What they need that was I said before about the 250.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: Rose Rabbit lies that kind of room.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: It's it just can't, it can't perform to 50 people uh at a time, like as things are going on right now.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: They just need a they need more diners in there, they need more people in there, and they uh they're saying that once that those restrictions are are relaxed, they're gonna be able to fill that place and and uh have it run as normal.
- 42:43SPEAKER_03: But they they took it down a couple weeks ago, and uh they are saying that you know everybody's costumes, everybody's stuff is still in there.
- 42:51SPEAKER_03: They just they just uh it's a financial move based on current times.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: They I think the hotel needs that that place to be what it is, and uh so you know that's where we are right now.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: Uh conversely, Mayfair Supper Club, which is it's kind of the show that's most like it, is still running.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: So over at Bellagio.
- 43:08Sean McAllister: So they're still going, but Rose Rabbit isn't, and it's it's an on by eight isn't hope that it's a short temporary pause and not a long temporary pause, so that our entertainers can get back up on the stage where they're supposed to be, and visitors can get back in the seats where they're supposed to be, and Johnny Katz can get back all around town where he's supposed to be.
- 43:32Dayna Roselli: Katz, thanks so much for joining us.
- 43:34Dayna Roselli: Always great to hear your perspective on things.
- 43:37Dayna Roselli: Katz is busy covering everything Las Vegas Entertainment.

- 43:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: And I congratulate you guys on your on this project you've got going.

- 43:52SPEAKER_03: I'm really, really happy for you guys that you've revealed and all that.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: And uh it's it's a super thing.

- 45:43Dayna Roselli: Welcome back.
- 45:44Dayna Roselli: It's time for Sean and Dana's tips.
- 45:46Dayna Roselli: And you know what?
- 45:47Dayna Roselli: The other day I saw Sean tweet that he was at a restaurant.
- 45:50Dayna Roselli: And I thought, you know, it's rare.
- 45:51Dayna Roselli: Sean and I actually have scaled back.
- 45:53Dayna Roselli: We actually don't go out as much as we used to because we're trying to be safer and more aware.
- 45:58Dayna Roselli: And, you know, restaurants book up with just the 25 capacity that we have, 25% capacity, I should say.
- 46:04Dayna Roselli: So I asked Sean, I said, Where did you go the other night?
- 46:07Dayna Roselli: You know?
- 46:08Dayna Roselli: And you were like, Well, it was tequila Tuesday.
- 46:10Dayna Roselli: And I'm like, wait, what?
- 46:11Dayna Roselli: And so he was telling me about this, and I was like, this has to be a tip, because what a deal.
- 46:16Sean McAllister: Oh my god, and it's such an incredible deal.
- 46:18Sean McAllister: And it's something that um my husband Shane and I just kind of stumbled upon.
- 46:22Sean McAllister: Uh Green Valley.
- 46:23Dayna Roselli: Yeah, yeah, sure you did.
- 46:25Sean McAllister: Green Valley Ranch Resort.
- 46:27Sean McAllister: I've actually kept this secret for a few weeks.
- 46:29Dayna Roselli: I know you were a little nervous to do this tip because you said you don't want a lot of people to know about it, which I thought was funny.
- 46:33Sean McAllister: Well, because restaurants do book up so quickly, and I I selfishly want to be able to still go.
- 46:40Sean McAllister: I know.
- 46:41Sean McAllister: Um, but we're here to spread the wealth this week on Vegas Revealed.
- 46:46Sean McAllister: Uh, this is at Green Valley Ranch Resort, which is about a 12-minute drive uh off of the Las Vegas Strip.
- 46:53Sean McAllister: If you um go out the 215 in the Green Valley neighborhood of Henderson, uh, which is a suburb of Las Vegas, uh the Green Valley Ranch Resort has this restaurant, cantina, called Barracha.
- 47:08Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 47:09Sean McAllister: And every Tuesday they have tequila and tacos Tuesday.
- 47:14Sean McAllister: It's$24 per person.
- 47:17Sean McAllister: All you can eat, street tacos and tequila.
- 47:21Sean McAllister: So that includes margarita and tequila shots.
- 47:24Sean McAllister: Really?
- 47:24Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 47:25Dayna Roselli: Well, so 24 bucks, and then like how does the tequila work?
- 47:28Dayna Roselli: Like you just keep saying, order it up.
- 47:30Sean McAllister: Like when we ordered unlimited our uh margaritas, we say, hey, you know, I'll have a margarita on the rocks with salt, and I'll take a tequila shot too.
- 47:40Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 47:40Sean McAllister: So every time the waiter comes back to check on you, you can order another margarita, another shot, both, however you want to do it.
- 47:48Dayna Roselli: And unlimited tacos?
- 47:49Sean McAllister: Unlimited uh street tacos.
- 47:51Sean McAllister: You can get chicken tacos or beef tacos.
- 47:54Sean McAllister: They bring them to you on a plate.
- 47:55Sean McAllister: You get three of each each round.
- 47:58Sean McAllister: Um, and it's for$48 combined with all you can eat tacos, all you can drink margaritas and tequila shots, but that is an incredible deal.
- 48:11Sean McAllister: You will not find anything like that anywhere else.
- 48:14Sean McAllister: I guarantee it.
- 48:15Sean McAllister: And another secret tip is that um I probably shouldn't say this, but I'm gonna.
- 48:20Sean McAllister: The last round, we always make sure that we order more tacos than we can eat because you can take them home in a doggy bag.
- 48:27Dayna Roselli: Oh, perfect.
- 48:28Dayna Roselli: And it's lunch for the next day.
- 48:30Dayna Roselli: That is a great idea.
- 48:31Dayna Roselli: I'm all for that idea.
- 48:33Dayna Roselli: I love that.
- 48:34Dayna Roselli: And you get free ice water to sober up.
- 48:38Sean McAllister: You do, and it's perfect.
- 48:39Sean McAllister: And the casino is just two steps outside the restaurant, so you can stay and play for a little bit too.
- 48:46Dayna Roselli: Get drunk and then go out and blow your money.
- 48:48Sean McAllister: This sounds like a way the best decisions are made.
- 48:51Dayna Roselli: Well, it is a time of uh COVID, so you know.
- 48:54Sean McAllister: The tequila kills everything, right?
- 48:56Dayna Roselli: That's true, that's true.
- 48:57Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 48:58Dayna Roselli: Okay, great tip from Sean.
- 48:59Dayna Roselli: Uh, another tip that I had is kind of somewhat in the same area.
- 49:04Dayna Roselli: It's Sunset Park, so it's down toward Henderson.
- 49:06Dayna Roselli: And recently, uh Sean's house is kind of our home office.
- 49:09Dayna Roselli: So I was heading home and I thought, well, where can I like go take a walk?
- 49:13Dayna Roselli: And I forgot.
- 49:14Dayna Roselli: Like, Sunset Park is this amazing park in I don't know, is it Henderson?
- 49:19Dayna Roselli: I'm trying to think.
- 49:20Dayna Roselli: It's in between Henderson and Las Vegas.
- 49:22Sean McAllister: On the border.
- 49:22Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 49:23Sean McAllister: It might be Las Vegas, but I think I think it's Henderson.
- 49:26Sean McAllister: I think it's Henderson.
- 49:27Dayna Roselli: But I wanted to let people know about it.
- 49:28Dayna Roselli: Because listen, if you are like, say you're even in town, like on the strip, and you just want to get off, see some wildlife, take a take a walk, it's not a far drive at all.
- 49:38Dayna Roselli: It's minutes, and it's this big oasis.
- 49:40Dayna Roselli: They have lots of different areas of Sunset Park.
- 49:43Dayna Roselli: I did this one little walking track area, and I saw these rabbits that I was sending Sean's video videos, and it's on my Instagram as well.
- 49:50Dayna Roselli: I was like, I is this a rabbit or like a kangaroo?
- 49:53Dayna Roselli: What is this thing?
- 49:55Dayna Roselli: And you were saying, yeah, that park has the hugest ginormous uh rabbits.
- 50:01Sean McAllister: They are giant.
- 50:02Sean McAllister: Giant! They're like the size of small dogs.
- 50:05Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh.
- 50:06Dayna Roselli: I don't know how, or like, like what do they and ever somebody wrote on my Instagram, what do they eat?
- 50:10Dayna Roselli: That's the scary part to stay because they're so big.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: That is true.
- 50:14Dayna Roselli: But listen, they're beautiful to watch, and Sunset Park has a little lake, and they have beautiful trees and different sorts of nature depending on where you go, in great big parking lots where you can park and walk in.
- 50:28Dayna Roselli: And it just I wanted to let people know.
- 50:30Dayna Roselli: Obviously, locals mostly know about Sunset Park, um, but also tourists and people that visit, if you just want to get some exercise in, take a quick Uber or a taxi, or if you're renting a car and drive over there, and it's a really great place to go for a couple hours.
- 50:46Sean McAllister: Yeah, and uh used, I mean the running trails over there are great.
- 50:50Sean McAllister: Um there's sand volleyball courts, people are always over there playing volleyball, great picnic areas, so it is, it's a good spot.
- 50:59Sean McAllister: I was just looking up.
- 51:01Dayna Roselli: Does the sand volleyball court come with Tom Cruise?
- 51:03Sean McAllister: And no, but in the in the warmer weather, you will find um similar-looking guys out there shirtless, which I know is what the point you were getting at.
- 51:15Dayna Roselli: Yeah, the volleyball scene from Top Gun.
- 51:17Dayna Roselli: Um and Tom Cruise, wow, he flew off the lid.
- 51:20Dayna Roselli: We'll talk about that in other podcasts, but we didn't discuss that yet.
- 51:24Sean McAllister: We haven't.
- 51:25Dayna Roselli: Maybe for good reason.
- 51:29Sean McAllister: And Dana, while you were reminiscing about Tom Cruise and you know his recent shenanigans, I was looking something up.
- 51:35Sean McAllister: Um you mentioned that there's a a lake over at Sunset Park.
- 51:39Sean McAllister: Right.
- 51:40Sean McAllister: And in the middle on one of the islands, um, there's a giant stone tiki head.
- 51:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, I missed it.
- 51:46Sean McAllister: It used to be housed at the Aku Aku bar and restaurant at the old Stardust Hotel and Casino.
- 51:54Dayna Roselli: Oh, that's cool.
- 51:55Sean McAllister: So there's a piece of Vegas history that a lot of people don't realize the origins of.
- 52:00Sean McAllister: Uh so make sure that when you're over there, over at the lake at Sunset Park, you look for the island with a giant tiki head, and that used to be at the Stardust.
- 52:10Dayna Roselli: Oh, I love that.
- 52:11Dayna Roselli: See?
- 52:12Dayna Roselli: Even more reason to go.
- 52:13Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's a really great park.
- 52:14Dayna Roselli: So again, Sunset Park.
- 52:16Dayna Roselli: It is to the east of the Las Vegas Strip.
- 52:19Dayna Roselli: And then, of course, uh Tuesday tequila night over at Green Valley Ranch.
- 52:25Sean McAllister: I'm all of a sudden thirsty and hungry.
- 52:28Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 52:29Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 52:29Dayna Roselli: Speaking of, we're gonna head out.
- 52:30Dayna Roselli: But listen, we thank you so much for joining us this week for episode 52.
- 52:35Dayna Roselli: Make sure that you get on to all the podcast apps and rate and review us.
- 52:39Dayna Roselli: It helps us so much.
- 52:40Dayna Roselli: We appreciate it.
- 52:41Dayna Roselli: We just found out today we looked at this site called Listen Notes that we are ranked in the top 2.5% of the 1.9 million podcasts that are made available to the public.
- 52:54Dayna Roselli: Wow.
- 52:54Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 52:55Dayna Roselli: We were like jumping up and down.
- 52:56Dayna Roselli: We're going, what?
- 52:57Dayna Roselli: But we have a popularity score that's pretty high, which we are thankful for, and it's because of all of you.
- 53:02Sean McAllister: Yes, so thank you very much for listening week after week.
- 53:06Sean McAllister: We are working on some good stuff for you in the weeks to come, and as Las Vegas begins to open up and welcome back tourists, hopefully coming up this summer, we'll have even better stuff for you on the entertainment front.
- 53:21Dayna Roselli: That's for sure.
- 53:22Dayna Roselli: Have a great week, everyone.
- 53:24SPEAKER_02: Let's go bag later.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: Let's go bag.
- 53:30SPEAKER_02: Let's go do it.
