- 1:19sure you're going to enjoy it.
- 1:21All right, so let's kick this off.
- 1:23Welcome to Inspirations for Your Life podcast.
- 1:26It's Friday and we're all about growth, money,
- 1:29and career mastery.
- 1:33We'll be talking about skills, income, and long
- 1:36-term vision, and how one small strategic move
- 1:39at a time can make the difference.
- 1:43Hello, everyone, and welcome back to Inspirations for
- 1:46Your Life, the daily motivational show designed to
- 1:50help you unlock your full potential and elevate
- 1:53your career.
- 1:55Hey, who am I?
- 1:55I'm John Seymourley, serial entrepreneur, if you didn't
- 1:59know who I am.
- 2:01Not only am I that, but I am
- 2:02also an engineer, marketing specialist, video producer, podcast
- 2:07host, coach, student, video producer, and, of course,
- 2:13a passionate lifelong learner, and yes, somebody that
- 2:16loves to help others grow.
- 2:18Today, we're focusing on how your career, your
- 2:21income, and your long-term vision can grow
- 2:23one small strategic move at a time.
- 2:27Every action matters, guys, and even tiny steps
- 2:30compound into massive results.
- 2:33So I think that's important to realize, all
- 2:35right?
- 2:35Number one, learn a tiny skill your future
- 2:39self could monetize.
- 2:41Each small skill is an investment in your
- 2:44career.
- 2:47Read one page about money today.
- 2:51Financial literacy builds confidence and long-term security.
- 2:56Why not start doing it?
- 2:57Number three, send one message that could open
- 3:01a door.
- 3:02Networking is about small, bold actions.
- 3:05So why not take some?
- 3:07Because if you take some, you might just,
- 3:10well, wind up in success, and that would
- 3:13be pretty awesome, wouldn't it?
- 3:16Number four, guys, show up to give in
- 3:20your network, not just to ask.
- 3:24Generosity builds trust and lasting connections, and I
- 3:27think a lot of people are always about
- 3:30the take, take, take, but we've got to
- 3:32be about the give, give, give.
- 3:33I mean, that's just a no-brainer, okay?
- 3:37You've got to be about the giving, not
- 3:40just about the taking, all right?
- 3:42That's a really important point that I want
- 3:47to bring home to everyone here today.
- 3:50Number five, track your wins.
- 3:56Like their invoices.
- 3:59Document your progress and prove your value to
- 4:03yourself and others.
- 4:05Number six, ask, what problem do I solve
- 4:11better than most people I know?
- 4:14Now, this defines your unique professional edge, and
- 4:18I think sometimes in life, we are snowbounded
- 4:23by things that are happening to us or
- 4:26why things are happening to us, and I
- 4:29think that's a very important thing to realize,
- 4:31again, is what perspective are we tuning into
- 4:35or are we tuning out?
- 4:37And I think sometimes in life, when a
- 4:40perspective hits us a certain way, it's like
- 4:43we don't necessarily know how to respond.
- 4:46We don't know what to do.
- 4:47It's not about being scared.
- 4:50It's about something that's a little bit different,
- 4:52okay?
- 4:53And I've said before, guys, uncomfortability happens.
- 4:58And so that's where success starts, when we're
- 5:01getting uncomfortable.
- 5:02It doesn't happen, you know, when everything is
- 5:05running easy or running smooth.
- 5:07I think that's a very, very important thing
- 5:10to understand.
- 5:11If you can understand that, then I know
- 5:14it will make a big difference for you.
- 5:19And so that's key.
- 5:21That's key in your life.
- 5:22It's key in my life.
- 5:23So let's plunge forward with this next one,
- 5:26number seven.
- 5:27It's okay, guys, to want more income without
- 5:31feeling greedy.
- 5:33Nothing wrong with that.
- 5:35Ambition is strategic, not selfish.
- 5:39Yeah.
- 5:39Number eight, save a small fixed amount consistently.
- 5:45Micro habits beat one-time sacrifices.
- 5:50It's like, you know, if you ever worked
- 5:53out, and maybe you keep working out.
- 5:55If you don't work out, it's like you
- 5:56feel like you didn't do something right that
- 5:59day, and you have to finish it before
- 6:01you can go on.
- 6:02So that's what we get to when we
- 6:04think about that.
- 6:05Number nine, guys, invest in skills that will
- 6:10matter five-plus years from now.
- 6:14And I think it's important to know that
- 6:19what you're learning should also be fun.
- 6:22It shouldn't be something you have to do.
- 6:24It should be something you enjoy and want
- 6:26to do, okay?
- 6:28The future proof of your career.
- 6:32Number 10, guys, learn to monetize one passion
- 6:39strategically.
- 6:42Focus on what aligns with your own inner
- 6:45vision, which is based from your core values,
- 6:48and create that income.
- 6:51See, a lot of people I know want
- 6:54to gain income, but they do it on
- 6:55things that they don't enjoy, and they're like,
- 6:57oh, I hate doing this, but I know
- 6:59I want to make money, right?
- 7:00You've heard of those things before.
- 7:03So if you love what you do, you
- 7:06never will have to work.
- 7:10You'll just always enjoy everything you're doing.
- 7:13That's a very powerful and a very important
- 7:16thing.
- 7:18Love what you do, and you won't work.
- 7:20I always tell people I play every day,
- 7:22and I love playing.
- 7:24I love playing, and I love getting checks
- 7:26to play.
- 7:27That's fun.
- 7:29So I tell people the only time I
- 7:30work is basically I think that day or
- 7:32two before taxes, and the accountant asks me
- 7:34some questions.
- 7:35That's the only really day I consider that
- 7:37I'm working.
- 7:38The rest of the time, I'm just enjoying
- 7:40myself and loving to help clients every day.
- 7:45Number 11, guys, clarity beats the hustle.
- 7:51When we're clear, we don't have to repeat
- 7:54things over and over again.
- 7:56We don't have to start over, right?
- 7:58Because what we've done actually makes sense.
- 8:02Define what success means to you, not anyone
- 8:06else.
- 8:07Remember I said this before, guys.
- 8:09We're not in a comparison game.
- 8:11We are in a strategic play where we
- 8:15need to figure out how to become better
- 8:18every single day.
- 8:22Number 12, guys, ask for feedback.
- 8:28Ask for feedback from someone who's where you
- 8:31want to be.
- 8:32Maybe you're looking to be a great baseball
- 8:34player.
- 8:35Well, then talk to some great baseball players.
- 8:38If you're lucky, maybe talk to some people
- 8:41that are actually professional baseball players.
- 8:45And what you're going to learn from them
- 8:47is what we call mentor and mentoring.
- 8:50What you learn from these people is not
- 8:53something you're going to learn in college.
- 8:56You're going to learn from them what might
- 8:59have taken you 10 or 12 or more
- 9:01years to learn.
- 9:02So that's actually priceless because we all know
- 9:04time is priceless.
- 9:06So if we can learn in less time,
- 9:09well, that's pretty amazing.
- 9:13Learn from their experience.
- 9:15Adapt that.
- 9:16And when you adapt, you're like, oh, wow,
- 9:19this is pretty cool.
- 9:20Like I didn't know that I could do
- 9:21it this way.
- 9:23And you actually can.
- 9:25Number 13, guys.
- 9:28Update one line on your resume.
- 9:31Portfolio or maybe your profile.
- 9:34Today.
- 9:34Don't wait until tomorrow.
- 9:36These small updates, they matter.
- 9:39Your job title isn't your full identity, guys.
- 9:42Growth goes beyond a label.
- 9:47Number 15.
- 9:49I want you to block 20 minutes daily
- 9:51for learning.
- 9:55Podcasts or more like we're doing.
- 9:57Articles or even courses.
- 10:00Consistency will compound.
- 10:02But it takes time.
- 10:03It's not going to just be handed to
- 10:05you like a plate.
- 10:06You've got to understand what this means.
- 10:09And when you understand what it means, then
- 10:11and only then can you appreciate the growth.
- 10:25The growth.
- 10:26The growth that you're making.
- 10:28The growth that you're pushing forward on.
- 10:31Those are pretty powerful things.
- 10:36But a lot of times we get stuck
- 10:40because, well, we don't know the next path.
- 10:44I'm going to give you an example.
- 10:45So many of you know that I'm a
- 10:46Toastmaster and I'm also a keynote speaker and
- 10:49lots of other great things.
- 10:50But when I was doing my Toastmasters many,
- 10:53many years ago, what I learned was that
- 10:58there was a spot I got to.
- 11:00And then it was like I got stuck.
- 11:04Now, it wasn't because I didn't know how
- 11:06to do it.
- 11:07It was because I got out of focus
- 11:14to what the real process is.
- 11:18So I knew how to do things.
- 11:21But because I got out of tune, I
- 11:25find myself saying that I'm lost.
- 11:29When I wasn't lost, I just needed to
- 11:31refine the focus.
- 11:34And this was in completing something for another
- 11:37level.
- 11:38And it was because they changed some book
- 11:40and some requirements.
- 11:42And I allowed that to cause me to
- 11:46procrastinate.
- 11:48So what did I do?
- 11:49I reached out to a team member and
- 11:51I said, hey, you're a such and such.
- 11:53I'd like to be this.
- 11:55What do I need to do?
- 11:56This changed.
- 11:56And it helped me.
- 11:58And I actually got there.
- 12:01Number 16, guys, say no to distractions.
- 12:06So you can say yes to your future.
- 12:09Protect your focus daily.
- 12:11Track what energizes you at work.
- 12:15Growth follows passion and engagement.
- 12:20Those are important things, guys.
- 12:22Number 18, ask what would 1% braver
- 12:28look like today?
- 12:30Courage is incremental, guys.
- 12:32It's not something that happens overnight.
- 12:36It's not something you're just going to walk
- 12:37into.
- 12:39Courage is going to take you time.
- 12:40I want to tell you that right now.
- 12:42And if you respect that somebody is going
- 12:44to take you time, then you're going to
- 12:46know that you can grow.
- 12:49But we all get stuck on these pathways.
- 12:55We all get stuck on them.
- 12:57So we need to understand how to navigate
- 12:59them.
- 13:01Or you've ever been in a car and
- 13:02maybe you're stuck because the GPS system gets
- 13:06lost.
- 13:07It doesn't know what to tell you.
- 13:10So you ask for help, but the GPS
- 13:16doesn't know how to navigate you.
- 13:21It'll say something like unable to calculate route.
- 13:26Or road not in system.
- 13:30Now what?
- 13:32It'll say something like please make a legal
- 13:34U-turn as soon as possible.
- 13:36Unable to calculate route.
- 13:38Please make a legal U-turn as soon
- 13:40as possible.
- 13:41That's really going to help you, right?
- 13:44Number 19, outgrow roles that no longer fit
- 13:49you.
- 13:50Progress sometimes means moving on, guys.
- 13:54Number 20, schedule one tiny step toward a
- 13:58big dream.
- 13:59A project.
- 14:01Even if no one knows.
- 14:04Momentum will start quickly, right?
- 14:07We all know how long it takes for
- 14:08a snowball to gain its speed after it
- 14:11rolls down a mountain and becomes this big,
- 14:13gigantic boulder.
- 14:14So momentum does gain speed quickly once you
- 14:21get going.
- 14:22So once you take small steps, you really
- 14:26will start moving.
- 14:28But many people get stuck in this phase.
- 14:32Number 21, financial literacy is a form of
- 14:36self-protection, okay?
- 14:42Knowledge shields you from mistakes.
- 14:48And admitting that you don't know something, that
- 14:50you have to learn, I think it's a
- 14:52very big gift that we have to treasure
- 14:55in life.
- 14:57Number 22, guys, networking is just human curiosity.
- 15:02Listen, learn, and connect authentically.
- 15:08Don't do it because you have an agenda
- 15:10in mind.
- 15:11Do it because you know that you can
- 15:14make an absolute difference.
- 15:21That's important, guys.
- 15:23I'm telling you, that's extremely, extremely important.
- 15:30So focus on that.
- 15:33And when you focus on it, you're like,
- 15:35oh, wow, this is pretty amazing.
- 15:36Like, I got here.
- 15:39Okay?
- 15:41And you will be very, very surprised at
- 15:43how easy this stuff is for you once
- 15:48you've gained some momentum.
- 15:50Number 23, guys, focus on your next aligned
- 15:56move.
- 15:57Not a five-year plan.
- 16:01Small intentional steps create big results.
- 16:11Number 24, document progress to stop feeling behind.
- 16:19Proof of growth motivates action every single day.
- 16:27When our mind and body see action, it's
- 16:29like, oh, wow, I could do more of
- 16:32this.
- 16:32I actually did this.
- 16:33Yes, you did.
- 16:35Okay?
- 16:36You could do a lot more, do a
- 16:39lot more.
- 16:42Number 25, ask, where am I undercharging or
- 16:48underselling my value?
- 16:51Increase your intentionality.
- 16:54Sometimes, you know, we want to be the
- 16:56good guy and we want to give away
- 16:57time.
- 16:58But we've got to make sure that we
- 17:01don't give away more than what we should.
- 17:10Remember I said just because we can doesn't
- 17:12mean we should?
- 17:12It also means a giving.
- 17:14Just because we give something doesn't mean we
- 17:17should.
- 17:18Some people might not warrant it.
- 17:21Maybe you'll find that by doing something, you're
- 17:25going to get off track.
- 17:28Maybe.
- 17:29Maybe you'll discover that if you keep doing
- 17:34this, people will take your kindness for weakness.
- 17:38And I say this to a lot of
- 17:39people.
- 17:40Please don't take my kindness for weakness or
- 17:43you will be sorry.
- 17:48That's not a threat.
- 17:50That's saying, don't play games with me.
- 17:55Do not play games with me.
- 17:58You will be sorry for playing around with
- 18:02me.
- 18:06I think people don't mean to play games,
- 18:11but they try to see what they can
- 18:14get.
- 18:17And that's not very altruistic.
- 18:18It's also not very authentic.
- 18:21It's the me first personality.
- 18:23You know the one I mean.
- 18:26I said that we need to take care
- 18:27of ourselves first.
- 18:28I did say that.
- 18:29We need to keep our cup full.
- 18:31But we also need to help others.
- 18:34Once we have our cup full, then we
- 18:36need to share.
- 18:38But always make sure there's enough in that
- 18:39cup so you can do what you need
- 18:40to do.
- 18:43If your cup is empty, you can't help
- 18:46yourself.
- 18:50We've all seen the type, right?
- 18:51The people that make the big productions, the
- 18:57big scenes.
- 18:59But when you need help, it's like, I
- 19:04don't know.
- 19:07They're busy with something else.
- 19:14They always have to prove that they're better
- 19:15than you.
- 19:19Those are the kind of people you want
- 19:20in your life.
- 19:20I don't think you do.
- 19:23So think about this from a real important
- 19:26perspective.
- 19:26And that is your worth intentionally.
- 19:32Now, when we talk about worth, we usually
- 19:34talk about dollars and cents, right?
- 19:37But your worth is more than dollars and
- 19:39cents.
- 19:41Your worth is you as a person.
- 19:45Your worth is your capabilities.
- 19:46And let's forget about numbers for a while,
- 19:48right, or money.
- 19:50Let's think about your value to someone, the
- 19:52fact that you're priceless.
- 19:56That could be the way you help somebody,
- 20:00the way you mentor someone.
- 20:03Or it could just be the way you
- 20:08listen to people.
- 20:11Those are important things, guys, very important things.
- 20:15Number 26, decide right now who you refuse
- 20:20to be professionally next week.
- 20:26Decide that.
- 20:27I think a lot of people, it's almost
- 20:32like going to a courtroom.
- 20:34They go to the courtroom, but they have
- 20:36no plan.
- 20:38They don't know whether they should start at
- 20:42A, L, or go right to Z.
- 20:48The most seasoned lawyers always have a plan.
- 20:53The most seasoned speakers have a plan.
- 20:55And even though I speak off the cuff,
- 21:00I always have a plan before I go
- 21:02somewhere.
- 21:04I know what my core values are, my
- 21:06core messages are.
- 21:09And make sure, guys, that you set boundaries
- 21:11for growth.
- 21:15Don't allow people to put you in positions
- 21:19that are going to sacrifice your own boundaries,
- 21:23that are going to zap your energy.
- 21:28It's the choices we make that allow us
- 21:32to be successful, that allow us to transcend,
- 21:36to grow.
- 21:39It's important, guys.
- 21:40Number 27, the smallest aligned action today can
- 21:47compound into a very different 2027.
- 21:51You see, guys, every step counts.
- 21:54And the more that we realize that, the
- 21:59more we see and experience how powerful we
- 22:01are.
- 22:02It's that we take these steps sometimes, and
- 22:04they don't go anywhere, so we figure that
- 22:06we don't have power.
- 22:11It's not that we don't have power.
- 22:14It's that we haven't aligned ourselves with what
- 22:17can bring the joy, the bliss.
- 22:24Life is all about experiences.
- 22:27It's all about helping yourself.
- 22:30It's about helping others.
- 22:33When I say every step counts, I'm not
- 22:39just talking about the steps you take physically
- 22:42with your feet.
- 22:43I'm talking about the mental steps you take
- 22:46with your mind, the physical steps you take
- 22:49with your body, the steps you take with
- 22:52your mouth and what you say.
- 22:55Of course, the body language you exert, right?
- 23:01Big difference from this to being a lot
- 23:04more open or having my hands open.
- 23:08I don't think anybody really wants to be
- 23:14out of alignment, but they do.
- 23:19It can happen because of stress.
- 23:21It can happen because of miscommunication.
- 23:24It can happen with little kids.
- 23:27It can happen with teens.
- 23:31It can even happen with adults.
- 23:38I think now that we can acknowledge that,
- 23:41we can say, how can I make this
- 23:44world better?
- 23:48What small strategic move can I make now
- 23:52or can I make tomorrow to help me
- 23:57align with the energies, the people, and the
- 24:02resources to help me get the future that
- 24:05I've always wanted?
- 24:07I know so many people that wish.
- 24:10Although wishing is good, wishing does not translate
- 24:13into anything.
- 24:14You need to take a concrete action.
- 24:18Thinking is good, relaxing is good, meditating is
- 24:23good, but you have to take the action
- 24:26that your body tells you to do, that
- 24:28inspired action.
- 24:31Those inspired actions make the difference between whether
- 24:36you're going to be a success or you're
- 24:40not going to be a success.
- 24:46Many people keep repeating the same lesson over
- 24:48and over again.
- 24:49You know why?
- 24:50They just don't get it.
- 24:52The universe keeps repeating that lesson over and
- 24:56over and over and over again, hoping that
- 25:00eventually you will understand the lesson.
- 25:06The lesson that has the power to transform
- 25:10you to new heights, to greater expectations.
- 25:23Maybe that doesn't happen to many people because
- 25:25they're not really thinking about the moment.
- 25:31They're not thinking about how their value affects.
- 25:35The other day I was somewhere having lunch,
- 25:38and I had a thought that came to
- 25:44my mind.
- 25:47The old John would have said, oh, no,
- 25:48I can't do that.
- 25:49That's not possible.
- 25:50The new one said, oh, sure I can.
- 25:53What would it look like talking to him
- 25:57about this potential opportunity?
- 26:00It was about a particular partnership for an
- 26:04event I wanted to do, but it wouldn't
- 26:06cost him any money.
- 26:08It would actually make him money.
- 26:11You know what?
- 26:12He liked the idea, and we're working on
- 26:15a plan.
