- 0:00Hey, it's Sarah. If you're feeling heavy tonight,
- 0:06or lonely, or sad, or anything that's just too hard to handle
- 0:12by yourself right now, then this is for you.
- 0:15And I want you to think of my voice as a Lantern in the dark,
- 0:19shining just a little bit of light ahead so that you're not
- 0:23quite so alone now. I'm not here to fix anything.
- 0:27I just want to sit with you for a few minutes and whatever it is
- 0:30that you're carrying. And I want to talk to the
- 0:33version of you that loved so hard.
- 0:35The one who gave more than was asked.
- 0:37More than was returned more than was probably wise.
- 0:42The one who saw a potential in someone and decided that
- 0:44potential was worth pouring yourself into even when the
- 0:47evidence kept suggesting otherwise.
- 0:52The one who stayed a little longer than made sense.
- 0:55The one who explained themselves one more time, hoping that this
- 0:58time it would land differently. The one who made themselves
- 1:02smaller or more available, more understanding, more patient.
- 1:06Not because they were asked to, but because they were trying to
- 1:09make the thing work through sheer force of loving.
- 1:14I know that version of you. I know it well.
- 1:17And I want you to hear something that nobody probably said to you
- 1:20when it was falling apart. That wasn't a character flaw.
- 1:25That was a heart that hadn't yet learned to protect itself
- 1:28without closing. That was a person who believed,
- 1:31genuinely believed, that if you loved hard enough, clearly
- 1:35enough, consistently enough, it would eventually land and it
- 1:40would eventually be enough. They would eventually see it and
- 1:43rise to meet it. And that's not stupidity, and
- 1:47that is not weakness. That's not you being naive or
- 1:51blind or foolish. That's someone who still
- 1:53believed in the transformative power of love at a time when
- 1:58that belief was costing them everything.
- 2:01And there is something quietly courageous about that, even when
- 2:05it ends badly. But here's what I need you to
- 2:09sit with tonight. The love was real.
- 2:12No one can take that from you. What you felt was real.
- 2:17What you gave was real. The connection, however
- 2:21complicated it became, however much it hurt on the way out, it
- 2:25was real. Don't let anyone, including
- 2:28yourself, minimize that into a mistake you made.
- 2:33And it still wasn't the right place to put all of it.
- 2:36Not because you were wrong to love, but because you were
- 2:39loving a potential instead of a person.
- 2:42A version of someone that existed just enough to be
- 2:45believable, but never quite enough to be sustainable.
- 2:50And you kept showing up for the version you could see was
- 2:52possible. The one you caught glimpses of
- 2:55on the good days, in the quiet moments, in the version of them
- 2:58that showed up when things were easy, while the version that was
- 3:03actually there kept falling short of it when it mattered.
- 3:07And that gap between who they were and who you believed they
- 3:10could be? That gap cost you something.
- 3:14It cost you time. It cost you energy.
- 3:17It cost you some of your own clarity, the moments when you
- 3:21second guessed what you were seeing because you didn't want
- 3:24it to be true. It probably cost you some of
- 3:27your own identity as well, the things that you set aside or
- 3:31didn't pursue because you were so focused on holding space for
- 3:34them. And here's the part that's hard
- 3:38to say and harder to hear. They couldn't receive what you
- 3:42were giving, not because it wasn't good enough and not
- 3:45because you weren't enough, but because a person who hasn't done
- 3:49their own work doesn't have the capacity to receive real love
- 3:53without flinching away from it or trying to manage it or
- 3:58eventually retreating from it entirely.
- 4:01You weren't rejected. You were too much for where they
- 4:05were, and that's a different thing entirely.
- 4:09And I want to stay with that for a second, because I think it
- 4:11matters. There is a version of this story
- 4:14where you walk away believing you love wrong.
- 4:18That you love too intensely, too deeply, too hopefully, that you
- 4:22should have known better, that you should have pulled back
- 4:25sooner, that you should have been less.
- 4:29That version of the story is a lie.
- 4:32The truth is, you love exactly right.
- 4:36You love with your whole self, with presence and consistency
- 4:40and genuine belief in the people you choose.
- 4:44And that is not a problem. That is not something to be
- 4:47managed or dialed down or apologized for.
- 4:51It just needs a different home. It needs to be pointed somewhere
- 4:55that can actually receive it. Someone who doesn't need you to
- 5:00love them into figuring out who they are.
- 5:04Someone who is already doing the work the work on themselves, who
- 5:09has already looked at their own patterns, sat with their own
- 5:13wounds, chosen their own growth, and wants you beside them while
- 5:18they continue. Not someone you're carrying.
- 5:22Not someone replaying and reliving old patterns.
- 5:26Someone walking next to you. A partnership, a team.
- 5:33You were not too much. You never were.
- 5:36You were just in the wrong place with all of that love.
- 5:39And the wrong place will always make the right thing feel like a
- 5:43problem. It will make your depth feel
- 5:46like pressure, your consistency feel like expectation, your hope
- 5:52feel like demand. Not because those things are
- 5:55problems, but because the wrong container cannot hold them.
- 5:59The right container, it won't flinch.
- 6:02The right container will feel like finally being able to
- 6:05breathe. The right container will feel
- 6:08like coming home. So tonight, if you're sitting
- 6:13with the grief of having love too hard in the wrong direction,
- 6:17I just want you to know that the love itself was never the
- 6:20mistake. The love is the best thing about
- 6:23you. It just deserves somewhere and
- 6:26someone worthy of it. And you, you are allowed to wait
- 6:30for that. You are allowed to stop pouring
- 6:33yourself into places that cannot hold you, that cannot contain
- 6:38you. You are allowed to be selective
- 6:42with something that precious. You earned that right the hard
- 6:47way. So I'm going to leave the
- 6:50Lantern right here next to you tonight.
- 6:52Not so you can see where you went wrong, but so you can see
- 6:56how much you still have, how full you still are, how much of
- 7:01you is still here, still whole, still open, still capable of
- 7:06exactly the kind of love that felt like it broke you.
- 7:10It didn't break you. It taught you where not to put
- 7:14it next time. And that is not a small thing.
