- 0:01Speaker 1: A Smalls show, A Smiley show.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Here we go, so he'll constantly be on the wings.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Second guests more than a design, it's welcome next, It's meant.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We're on the countdown to the start of the World Cup.
- 0:17Speaker 1: The twenty twenty six b for World Cup is going
- 0:20Speaker 1: to be on SBS and SBS on demand here in Australia.
- 0:23Speaker 1: The world game football. You are leading the World Cup
- 0:27Speaker 1: Watches Rights Association. It's a national body dedicated to proudly
- 0:31Speaker 1: advocating for fans rights to watch the world's largest sporting
- 0:34Speaker 1: event on work time. And I feel like if there
- 0:36Speaker 1: is a man who was born for that job, it
- 0:39Speaker 1: was user.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Oh I fit.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Look, I think you know, the World Cup doesn't come
- 0:43Speaker 3: around all the time, and I just think, you know,
- 0:46Speaker 3: nothing unites us as well as countries, but as you know,
- 0:49Speaker 3: as a whole planet, right and something like the World Cup.
- 0:51Speaker 3: And yes, obviously the SBS World Cup Watches Rights Association
- 0:56Speaker 3: is sort of dedicated to encouraging bosses well around Australia
- 1:01Speaker 3: to encouraging their employees to be able to watch football
- 1:04Speaker 3: during work hours because of course with the time difference,
- 1:07Speaker 3: you know that that is when it's going to be
- 1:08Speaker 3: on and so yeah, Look, I have such a kind
- 1:12Speaker 3: of a strange relationship with football because I was never
- 1:15Speaker 3: really massively into it as a kid.
- 1:16Speaker 2: My dad was hugely into it. But then three, you.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Know, as I kind of grew up, and certainly as
- 1:22Speaker 3: a result of being involved in shows like ted Lasso
- 1:24Speaker 3: and so on, I've kind of become increasingly fond of it,
- 1:28Speaker 3: and particularly the World Cup. Actually, there's something incredibly hearty
- 1:30Speaker 3: about sort of getting behind you your nation.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Did you did you learn any when you were were
- 1:35Speaker 1: doing ted Lasso? Did you learn anything? Was that all
- 1:38Speaker 1: act like obviously, but did you learn anything about football
- 1:41Speaker 1: that you didn't know?
- 1:43Speaker 2: In terms of ted Lasso?
- 1:44Speaker 3: Look, yeah, I couldn't help but be I guess inspired
- 1:48Speaker 3: really by it because you know, so many of the
- 1:51Speaker 3: you know, the people involved in that show, and particularly
- 1:52Speaker 3: the creators, they're mad for it. And you know, all
- 1:55Speaker 3: the guys playing footballers, I mean they were all I
- 1:58Speaker 3: mean some of which were semi ro players. I mean Chrysto,
- 2:01Speaker 3: who plays Danny ro has has become pro now and.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Like so it's sort of it's mad. You can't help
- 2:07Speaker 2: but be infected by that.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Sort of passion for the sport and just sort of
- 2:11Speaker 3: appreciating how much of a team sport it is. And
- 2:14Speaker 3: you know, not saying for a second that pretending to
- 2:17Speaker 3: be a coach, you know, you know makes you like
- 2:19Speaker 3: a coach of a football team by any means.
- 2:21Speaker 1: No, it does. No, I think it does. I think
- 2:22Speaker 1: it's very good. Yeah, don't particularly particularly if you're method.
- 2:25Speaker 1: If your method, I mean totally and you come across
- 2:28Speaker 1: as a method to me, so you know you totally.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I believe I was the coach of west Ham for
- 2:33Speaker 2: a good year.
- 2:35Speaker 3: But but you know, because we genuinely got to film
- 2:37Speaker 3: at like London Stadium and Wen'by Stadium and things like that,
- 2:39Speaker 3: it did feel like you know, you do suddenly you
- 2:42Speaker 3: go into these places and you know, you walk down
- 2:43Speaker 3: a tun and it's like an arena and you can't
- 2:45Speaker 3: help but you know, be inspired by that.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Of course the crowd's not there, but yeah, it was.
- 2:50Speaker 3: It was kind of magical that really, and it definitely
- 2:52Speaker 3: did it did it sort of reignited something.
- 2:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Nick Muhammad is on the air with us now. Man,
- 2:59Speaker 1: it's so good to have you on. Obviously, Ted Lasso
- 3:02Speaker 1: has such a cult following and a huge fan base
- 3:04Speaker 1: here in Australia. I'm sure it's blown you away since
- 3:07Speaker 1: season one came out.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think, yeah, certainly Australia.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I mean, obviously it came out during the pandemic, so
- 3:14Speaker 3: it was such an uncanny thing to kind of go
- 3:17Speaker 3: from coming out of lockdown and then realizing I remember
- 3:19Speaker 3: the first time I went to America and realizing that
- 3:22Speaker 3: it was it was such a hit show and not
- 3:24Speaker 3: really appreciating. I think I went to a really I
- 3:27Speaker 3: was filming a film in Albuquerque and I went to
- 3:30Speaker 3: just a really niche hot air balloon festival sort of
- 3:33Speaker 3: this sort of around the corner from where I was saying,
- 3:35Speaker 3: and like everyone's like, hey, it's Nate and I was
- 3:38Speaker 3: like what.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I love I love I love that. Now let me
- 3:43Speaker 1: hit you with the Apparently one third of Ossie workers
- 3:46Speaker 1: have booked a meeting specifically to watch the World Cup,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and one in ten OSSI's have admitted that they're going
- 3:52Speaker 1: to hide under their desk to watch sports secretly. As
- 3:55Speaker 1: you know, we are a sports loving country. Quite yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 1: to our detriment, one would say sometimes like we spent
- 4:01Speaker 1: a lot if we put as much effort into sport
- 4:04Speaker 1: as we did to other things. We would be well
- 4:06Speaker 1: betting above our average. But we just love, we love,
- 4:09Speaker 1: we're mad for sport here.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, that's what the Watchers Association is really
- 4:13Speaker 3: all about, is you know. We don't want people necessarily
- 4:15Speaker 3: having to hide under their desks, sort of having to
- 4:16Speaker 3: watch it in secret or watch it on the slide.
- 4:18Speaker 3: We want bosses to sort of say, you know what,
- 4:20Speaker 3: come on, let's all watch it together, Let's take a
- 4:22Speaker 3: bit of time out and watch it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Absolutely, you're going to be rooting for England, I am assuming.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, can't not, can't not?
- 4:30Speaker 1: What's the shape of your team looking like at the moment.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I think it's good.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I think there were some there were some kind of controversies,
- 4:36Speaker 3: but no, I do think I do think it's good actually,
- 4:38Speaker 3: And you know, whether it's coming home or not, I
- 4:41Speaker 3: don't know.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I feel like, well, you know, from here in Australia,
- 4:45Speaker 1: we just love to get out of the group stage.
- 4:47Speaker 1: For us, we just would love to get out of
- 4:49Speaker 1: the groups. That that's what weird. It doesn't we don't
- 4:51Speaker 1: we know it's not coming home here. Trust me when
- 4:53Speaker 1: I say we know, we know it's not coming home.
- 4:55Speaker 2: We just well, that's the beauty of the sport, isn't
- 4:59Speaker 2: it. It is unpredictable. You just never know. You just never know.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Hey, mate, well, thank you for doing the God's work
- 5:07Speaker 1: and getting behind the World Cup Watchers Rights Association. You're
- 5:11Speaker 1: a busy man so that you even have time for
- 5:13Speaker 1: for such a chairmanship. I'm just I'm impressed.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I will get I will thank you very much.
