- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome the Bears Smoke CAUs Barbecue for our first Yukon
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hockey Coaches Show twenty twenty five. I feel so far
- 0:07Speaker 1: disconnected from your team, Thank goodness.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I've watched them a few times on TV. The last time.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I saw you was at Bob Joyce by the way
- 0:14Speaker 1: with Mike Cavanaugh Adam Jardino. Let's get that out of
- 0:17Speaker 1: the way first as we welcome you to another coaches show.
- 0:19Speaker 1: But the last time I saw you was at Gamble
- 0:22Speaker 1: for Gino's record setting win right after the BC win
- 0:26Speaker 1: at home.
- 0:27Speaker 2: But so far pretty good.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I mean, game over five hundred great, went over Harvard
- 0:32Speaker 1: on Saturday night, where you scored five in the third
- 0:35Speaker 1: first time since twenty eleven that's happened for amount of
- 0:37Speaker 1: goals in a third period.
- 0:38Speaker 2: For that, and planned some pretty good hockey.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And despite the fact that you've had to deal with
- 0:43Speaker 1: the little illness team wise too when you were out
- 0:45Speaker 1: in Milwaukee.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, the Harvard win was good.
- 0:48Speaker 4: It was not the auspicious start we won, but the
- 0:53Speaker 4: way we finished the game and the way we responded.
- 0:55Speaker 4: I thought I was pretty proud of the team. But
- 0:59Speaker 4: you know, someone was asking me. My mother called me today,
- 1:02Speaker 4: she wanted to know all about the Harvard game. I said,
- 1:04Speaker 4: I've moved on now because thirteen of our next sixteen
- 1:08Speaker 4: games are against top twenty five teams. So that's in
- 1:11Speaker 4: the rearview mirror, and we've got New Hampshire staring us
- 1:14Speaker 4: straight in the face. Who's I think eleven in the
- 1:16Speaker 4: pairwise right now and playing great hockey?
- 1:19Speaker 5: When you think about that, that Harvard game, and we're
- 1:21Speaker 5: allowed to ask, right, your mom's not allowed to ask,
- 1:23Speaker 5: but are we allowed to ask about So the Harvard game,
- 1:27Speaker 5: you give up those two early goals, fall behind two nothing.
- 1:29Speaker 5: Do you see the immediate recovery by the team or
- 1:32Speaker 5: did it take a little bit through the first period
- 1:34Speaker 5: to finally get to a point where you thought, okay,
- 1:36Speaker 5: we're back in this.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I thought towards the end of the first period we
- 1:38Speaker 4: started to play a little better. That power play we had,
- 1:40Speaker 4: we had one real good chance on that, and I
- 1:44Speaker 4: think that's been a bright spot lately. I think our
- 1:46Speaker 4: power play has scored. I want to say, have they
- 1:49Speaker 4: scored in the last three games? Maybe, so that's something
- 1:54Speaker 4: that's been We've had three goals in the last three games,
- 1:57Speaker 4: so that's something that's been a positive for us, certainly
- 2:02Speaker 4: since coming back from the break. But I did like
- 2:05Speaker 4: the way we were playing at the end of the
- 2:06Speaker 4: first and we came out in the second and we're
- 2:09Speaker 4: really strong, and it was unfortunate we gave up. You know,
- 2:13Speaker 4: their power play goal made it three to two. But
- 2:15Speaker 4: I still felt good about how we were playing at
- 2:17Speaker 4: that point.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Right the power play goal came thirty seconds into the
- 2:20Speaker 1: third period, or thirty three seconds technically, Yeah, that tie
- 2:23Speaker 1: the game. Joey Muldowney, who scored that goal, as one
- 2:25Speaker 1: of our guests coming up to now on the coach
- 2:28Speaker 1: is shown. He hinted it something new new play, a
- 2:31Speaker 1: new system a little bit, I guess on the power play, that's.
- 2:34Speaker 2: A little that goal.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Joey's one of the guests today. Yes, fervent Bills fan,
- 2:38Speaker 4: you know.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh, I know the Bills flags.
- 2:41Speaker 4: The mcques out here in the audience too, some more
- 2:44Speaker 4: Bills fans.
- 2:46Speaker 3: They couldn't beat my pay.
- 2:47Speaker 5: I just wanted them to do, is beat the people
- 2:49Speaker 5: one time at one time, once needed them.
- 2:51Speaker 3: For the Bills and it can't come through for me.
- 2:54Speaker 4: But no, Joey's goal was a big goal for us.
- 2:57Speaker 4: It certainly ignited our band, and then we scored on
- 3:01Speaker 4: the next shift, and then.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Again right after that. I think we had three goals
- 3:05Speaker 3: in two minutes.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and Joey got the book ends.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Right, So it was a great start to the third period.
- 3:11Speaker 3: And then we wound up getting two more.
- 3:13Speaker 4: And you informed me today that that was the first
- 3:16Speaker 4: time we've scored five goals in a period since twenty eleven.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's funny. I texted Colin, I said,
- 3:22Speaker 1: when's the last time. I said, he's busy, let me
- 3:24Speaker 1: do that, and I just kind of shuffled through. It's like,
- 3:26Speaker 1: all right, some of the high scoring games, I saw
- 3:28Speaker 1: four a couple of times. But yeah, you got to
- 3:30Speaker 1: go back to twenty eleven against Sacred Heart early at well,
- 3:35Speaker 1: now it's the volleyball facility at Fretis where they scored
- 3:38Speaker 1: five in the second period.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So yeah, it's that's pretty wild they've done.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I mean, obviously that shouldn't happen off in getting a
- 3:44Speaker 1: five goals.
- 3:45Speaker 2: In a period. No, no, but yeah, it's just one
- 3:47Speaker 2: of those things.
- 3:48Speaker 3: John to score five in one period, No, I bet
- 3:51Speaker 3: you did five. Nothing he had all five.
- 3:57Speaker 2: That's pretty nice. A good days of work.
- 3:59Speaker 3: That's up.
- 4:00Speaker 1: That's pretty nice. One of the things that Colin did
- 4:04Speaker 1: tell me, and we were and he was thinking of
- 4:05Speaker 1: getting Taber. He slipped on the show, but we had
- 4:07Speaker 1: him on I think the first show of the season,
- 4:08Speaker 1: but apparently he played a big role after the slow
- 4:12Speaker 1: start getting the guys together on the bench and getting
- 4:15Speaker 1: them going.
- 4:16Speaker 3: He did. How did Colin know that he did?
- 4:19Speaker 2: Colin has spies. I thought you did that he did.
- 4:23Speaker 4: He was certainly someone who was a vocal presence on
- 4:27Speaker 4: that bench in the first period. But I would also
- 4:30Speaker 4: say that that line of Phillips, Sitar Taber and Mike Murtag,
- 4:36Speaker 4: they were fantastic and that's why they started the second
- 4:38Speaker 4: period because I thought they were our best line in
- 4:41Speaker 4: the first period, and they gave us a great start
- 4:43Speaker 4: to the second period and we were on our way.
- 4:46Speaker 5: When it's vocal on the bench and guys are going back,
- 4:48Speaker 5: are you listening to make sure it's the right communication
- 4:51Speaker 5: that's happening, or do you trust the guys that they're
- 4:53Speaker 5: going to sort it out, air whatever they need to
- 4:56Speaker 5: air at one another and keep it positive and moving forward.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I kind of let them go as long as
- 5:02Speaker 3: it's positive and certain aspect.
- 5:06Speaker 4: If it's you know, you got to shut it down
- 5:07Speaker 4: if it's negative, because that's not going to help anybody.
- 5:09Speaker 4: And that happens. But Tabor was more, Hey, we got
- 5:14Speaker 4: to get our butts and gear here and we got
- 5:17Speaker 4: to get going, and this isn't who we are as
- 5:20Speaker 4: a team. And he was very vocal about it, and
- 5:23Speaker 4: I think the guys responded.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Well, let's knit this in the bud.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Stephen Shane, who's sitting right and over there, tweeted about
- 5:28Speaker 1: a question for us, asked about Nick Caribin's leadership, and
- 5:31Speaker 1: he said in parentheses see my last tweet for contact.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Apparently he mentioned to his linemtes, let's get the puck
- 5:37Speaker 1: deep and start doing things.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Yeah, he met our first goal. Yeah, so I thought he.
- 5:42Speaker 4: I think it was a personal game for him, you know,
- 5:44Speaker 4: having graduated from Princeton.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Ye.
- 5:47Speaker 4: I don't think there's any love loss with Harvard for
- 5:50Speaker 4: a Princeton grad. So he really, I know, wanted that
- 5:53Speaker 4: game as well, and he played a great game. He
- 5:55Speaker 4: scored a big goal for us there to get us going.
- 5:58Speaker 5: For an individual guy like him coming in as that
- 6:01Speaker 5: grad transfer, what is he injected into the program that
- 6:05Speaker 5: maybe has been above.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And beyond what you could have hoped when you brought
- 6:07Speaker 2: him in.
- 6:08Speaker 4: You know, Adam, I think it's more experience that when
- 6:14Speaker 4: you've played a lot of college hockey and you've played
- 6:17Speaker 4: in most of the buildings that we play in, there's
- 6:21Speaker 4: a comfort factor of I'm comfortable playing here, and there's not.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Like anything else.
- 6:28Speaker 4: When you're a rookie and you haven't played in a building,
- 6:30Speaker 4: it can be overwhelming sometimes and you're not used to it.
- 6:33Speaker 4: That doesn't factor in when he is out there. He's
- 6:36Speaker 4: got a lot of confidence and a lot of experience,
- 6:38Speaker 4: and that's one of the benefits. You know, we'll miss
- 6:42Speaker 4: because after this year you won't have any more COVID transfers,
- 6:45Speaker 4: so right, but having those guys and Hugh Larkin brings
- 6:49Speaker 4: the same type of presence when he's on the ice,
- 6:51Speaker 4: so it's nice having that. But going forward, I do
- 6:56Speaker 4: think it's going to be better because it just it
- 7:00Speaker 4: really did. Having a fifty year transfer, a kid with
- 7:03Speaker 4: an extra year of eligibility. It certainly has been advantageous
- 7:08Speaker 4: for many teams.
- 7:09Speaker 1: We're just underway and one of those veterans is, of
- 7:12Speaker 1: course your captain, who has suddenly started to produce point.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Wise over the last eight or nine games. We'll get
- 7:18Speaker 2: into that with Coach Cabin.
- 7:19Speaker 1: We come back later, Joey Muldowney and Callum Tung, the
- 7:23Speaker 1: goaltender who has been spectacular since getting his first start
- 7:27Speaker 1: back in late November against U mass Lowl.
- 7:29Speaker 2: This is the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show. We're live.
- 7:31Speaker 1: It's Spare Smokehouse, Barbecue and Hartford and you're listening on
- 7:34Speaker 1: Learfield to stay with us.
