Latest / Gil I Am / Trump takes over DC police. Is this right?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, what's up, everybody. This is Gil and I'm
- 0:02Speaker 1: gonna start putting things out again. So I found the
- 0:05Speaker 1: video Donald Trump talking about the national takeover of the
- 0:10Speaker 1: city police in DC. I don't know what his priorities
- 0:17Speaker 1: are or what the purpose of that is. DC has
- 0:21Speaker 1: been a shithold for years, but all of a sudden
- 0:23Speaker 1: he's worried about it.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I don't understand.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I do know that the leadership the mayor in DC
- 0:32Speaker 1: is a piece of shit. I know that the police
- 0:35Speaker 1: department lead head is a piece of shit, the police chief.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I do know that they do not take crime seriously
- 0:43Speaker 1: in those cities.
- 0:44Speaker 2: So we're gonna listen to what he has to say
- 0:46Speaker 2: and then we'll go from there.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Then here you see President Trump walking up to the podium.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Let's listen.
- 0:53Speaker 5: I've been up here a lot. I've never seen a
- 0:55Speaker 5: crowd like this.
- 0:56Speaker 6: I think we need a ballroom, and that's happening.
- 1:00Speaker 5: It's going to be a beautiful ballroom.
- 1:01Speaker 6: This is really a lot of people most have ever
- 1:04Speaker 6: seen in this room, and we're here for a very
- 1:08Speaker 6: serious purpose, very serious purpose. Something's out of control, but
- 1:12Speaker 6: we're gonna put it in control very quickly, like we
- 1:15Speaker 6: did on the southern border.
- 1:17Speaker 5: I'm announcing a historic action to.
- 1:20Speaker 6: Rescue our nation's capital from crime, bloodshed, bedlam, and squalor
- 1:26Speaker 6: and worse.
- 1:28Speaker 1: This is okay, Before we go any further, I'm trying
- 1:31Speaker 1: to picture myself.
- 1:32Speaker 2: As the president.
- 1:32Speaker 1: What would I do in order to stop the crime.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Let's start with the crime first. Let's not start with this.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Let's not say anything about the squalor, about the homelessness.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Let's start with crime first. How on earth do you
- 1:45Speaker 1: stop crime? So you take over the city police, do
- 1:51Speaker 1: you put?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:52Speaker 1: What I would do is, I would put out posts
- 1:54Speaker 1: in each in those communities that are hard is hit
- 1:57Speaker 1: by crime. I would put mobile units out in those
- 2:03Speaker 1: areas to deter crime. I'd also put semi permanent structures
- 2:07Speaker 1: in those areas that would deter crime. And so there
- 2:13Speaker 1: is a faster response and immediate response to crime and
- 2:16Speaker 1: what's happening in those communities. Now you have all these
- 2:18Speaker 1: DC leaders who are fighting against this, even though they
- 2:22Speaker 1: don't want to acknowledge the fact that there's hundreds of
- 2:25Speaker 1: people killed a year in the Washington, DC area. I
- 2:30Speaker 1: think it was four hundred some odd murders in the
- 2:32Speaker 1: last year.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Their talking point is that.
- 2:36Speaker 1: The murders have gone down, but it's still the highest
- 2:39Speaker 1: in the industrialized world. So I just don't know if
- 2:46Speaker 1: this is the right thing that the President's doing. I
- 2:49Speaker 1: don't know if it's the wrong thing. I think that
- 2:51Speaker 1: something has to be done. But why now, That's the
- 2:54Speaker 1: question for me, is why now?
- 2:56Speaker 6: Liberation Day in DC and we're kind of take our
- 3:00Speaker 6: capital back. We're taking it back under the authorities vested
- 3:05Speaker 6: in me as the President of the United States. I'm
- 3:07Speaker 6: officially invoking Section seventy forty of the District of Columbia
- 3:11Speaker 6: Home Rule Act, you know what that is, and placing
- 3:15Speaker 6: the DC Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control. And
- 3:20Speaker 6: you'll be meeting the people that will be directly involved
- 3:24Speaker 6: with that. Very good people, but they're tough and they
- 3:31Speaker 6: know what's happening, and they've done it before. In addition,
- 3:35Speaker 6: I'm deploying the National Guard to help re establish law
- 3:39Speaker 6: order of public safety in Washington, d C. And they're
- 3:43Speaker 6: going to be allowed to do their job properly. And
- 3:46Speaker 6: you people are victims.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Of it too.
- 3:47Speaker 6: You know your reporters, and I understand a lot of
- 3:49Speaker 6: you tend to be on the liberal side, but you
- 3:52Speaker 6: don't want to get you don't want to get mugged
- 3:55Speaker 6: and raped and shot and killed.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So recently, there've been two congressional aids that have been
- 4:03Speaker 1: murdered in Washington, DC. One was shot by a stray bullet,
- 4:07Speaker 1: the other one was stabbed in acts of criminal intent.
- 4:14Speaker 1: There was the one straight bullet that was meant for
- 4:17Speaker 1: someone else, but I think he got shot twice. And
- 4:19Speaker 1: then a guy who got stabbed, he was a victim,
- 4:22Speaker 1: but he wasn't attacked because he was in Congress. He
- 4:24Speaker 1: was attacked because they were trying to steal stuff from him.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So he's right in the sense that the reporters need
- 4:31Speaker 1: to be concerned, but they're not. They feel that this
- 4:35Speaker 1: is a guesstopo tactic, that Trump is just overreaching.
- 4:40Speaker 2: And I'm on the fence here.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I do believe that some of these cities, the crime
- 4:45Speaker 1: in these cities has become rampant to the point where
- 4:48Speaker 1: someone has to step in. But isn't the president's responsibility,
- 4:53Speaker 1: And I would say DC is probably more his responsibility
- 4:57Speaker 1: than any other city in America.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I just don't know.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I mean, this is something that just affects me tremendously
- 5:05Speaker 1: because I believe in Donald Trump.
- 5:07Speaker 2: But there's something just not right about this. It just
- 5:10Speaker 2: doesn't sit right with me.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I wish maybe he could have found a way to
- 5:15Speaker 1: motivate the local police department and the mayor to do
- 5:18Speaker 1: it more on their level. But desperation is another thing
- 5:23Speaker 1: that you just can't take into account at this point.
- 5:25Speaker 6: You all know people and friends of yours that happened,
- 5:28Speaker 6: and so you can be any anything you want, but
- 5:32Speaker 6: you want to have safety in the streets. You want
- 5:33Speaker 6: to be able to leave your apartment or your house
- 5:36Speaker 6: where you live and feel safe and go into a
- 5:39Speaker 6: store to buy a newspaper.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Or buy something, and you don't have that now.
- 5:44Speaker 6: The murder rate in Washington today is higher than that
- 5:47Speaker 6: of Bogata.
- 5:48Speaker 5: Columbia, Mexico City.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Some of the places that you hear about as being
- 5:55Speaker 6: the worst place.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Is okay, So that statistic or that chart that you
- 6:04Speaker 1: see on the on earth much higher is all that
- 6:07Speaker 1: violent crime is much higher down.
- 6:09Speaker 6: The number of karthevs has doubled over the past it's
- 6:12Speaker 6: going down five years, and the number of car jackings
- 6:15Speaker 6: has more than tripled murders, and twenty twenty three reached
- 6:20Speaker 6: the highest rate probably ever. They say twenty five years,
- 6:23Speaker 6: but they don't know what that means because it just
- 6:25Speaker 6: goes back twenty five years.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Can't be worse.
- 6:28Speaker 6: Our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs and
- 6:31Speaker 6: bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged out maniacs,
- 6:36Speaker 6: and homeless people.
- 6:38Speaker 5: And we're not going to let it happen anymore.
- 6:40Speaker 6: We're not going to take it. Just like we did
- 6:45Speaker 6: on our southern border. Nobody comes to our southern border,
- 6:47Speaker 6: and with three months in a.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Row, we had zero.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So that's another thing about the southern border. The southern
- 6:52Speaker 1: border has practically been shut down. And that's all through
- 6:55Speaker 1: legislation and intent. Okay, the intent is that you come
- 6:59Speaker 1: across the southern border, gonna arrest you and deport you.
- 7:01Speaker 1: So you saw this massive influx of illegal aliens because
- 7:06Speaker 1: the intent to prosecute and deport was not there under
- 7:10Speaker 1: the Biden administration. So now, just a simple policy, you
- 7:14Speaker 1: don't have to build a wall. He's proven that you
- 7:16Speaker 1: don't have to build a wall. He's proven that the
- 7:18Speaker 1: wall is just more of a symbolic thing. The wall
- 7:24Speaker 1: doesn't matter. The intent behind illegal immigration and the detention
- 7:31Speaker 1: and export of illegal aliens. The intent behind what you're
- 7:36Speaker 1: doing is the most important thing, because now it's practically
- 7:40Speaker 1: down to nothing.
- 7:41Speaker 2: It's incredible.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So I think that with the policy on the elite,
- 7:45Speaker 1: the on the border, in the southern border, if you
- 7:48Speaker 1: could have the intention and people believe that the intent
- 7:52Speaker 1: is to arrest and prosecute, I think that we would
- 7:55Speaker 1: have a difference in crime statistics almost immediately. But we'll
- 8:00Speaker 1: know in thirty days, because he has exactly thirty days
- 8:03Speaker 1: before Congress has to step in, so we'll see what happened.
- 8:05Speaker 7: Bro.
- 8:06Speaker 6: I don't know if that's right, but the people that
- 8:08Speaker 6: do the work, it's a very liberal group of people actually,
- 8:12Speaker 6: and they actually said zero for the last three months,
- 8:14Speaker 6: nobody thought a thing like that was possible. And you
- 8:19Speaker 6: know when you say, take a look at numbers. I
- 8:21Speaker 6: just saw some charts. These are different cities throughout the world.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Red is.
- 8:29Speaker 6: Okay, the red is place. Go in Washington, DC. Look
- 8:33Speaker 6: at these.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Baghdad is.
- 8:38Speaker 6: We doubled up on Baghdad, Panama City, Brasilia, San Jose,
- 8:46Speaker 6: Costa Rica, Bogata, Columbia, heavy drugs, Mexico City, I mentioned Lima, Peru.
- 8:55Speaker 5: All double and triple.
- 8:58Speaker 6: What they are said, do you want to live them
- 9:00Speaker 6: places like that? I don't think so. I don't think so,
- 9:03Speaker 6: and I think the people in this room if you
- 9:06Speaker 6: wrote correctly, you'd see Look at the kind of numbers
- 9:08Speaker 6: we have. DC forty one per one hundred thousand, number
- 9:14Speaker 6: one that we can find anywhere in the world. Other
- 9:17Speaker 6: cities are number one, pretty bad, but then other as
- 9:19Speaker 6: bad as that.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Okay, So you have third world countries where the murder
- 9:24Speaker 1: rate per one hundred thousand people is less than Washington DC. Washington, DC,
- 9:28Speaker 1: according to this year statistic, is the highest murder rate
- 9:32Speaker 1: per one hundred thousand people in the world.
- 9:35Speaker 2: And you have liberals.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Complaining, you have black people complaining. Black fatigue is real.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I'm black, and I'm tired of black people. I'm tired
- 9:46Speaker 1: of the black agenda. I'm tired. I'm so tired of
- 9:50Speaker 1: hearing this shit. It should be about human beings and
- 9:53Speaker 1: about what's human and what's right and what's wrong. What's
- 9:57Speaker 1: wrong is these people living like fucking animals and allowing
- 10:03Speaker 1: other people to kill, rape, pillage steel. Black culture in
- 10:08Speaker 1: America is disgusting. It is downright disgusting, and I'm so tired.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm so tired of blackness. I'm so tired.
- 10:21Speaker 6: That where you want to live the reporters of the
- 10:24Speaker 6: world juvenile offenders and crimes against persons, as they say,
- 10:32Speaker 6: it's getting worse, not getting better, It's getting worse. And
- 10:37Speaker 6: we had a recent indication and there was a story
- 10:43Speaker 6: about a man who was that just left. He quit
- 10:47Speaker 6: because he was asked to do phony numbers on crime.
- 10:51Speaker 6: And we're going to look into that. I think Bam
- 10:53Speaker 6: is going to be looking into that, but he was
- 10:56Speaker 6: asked by the city. I guess we don't want to
- 10:59Speaker 6: show the real numbers. Let me do numbers. So it
- 11:01Speaker 6: looks like it's going down, not going down. And under
- 11:04Speaker 6: Biden it was a disaster and nobody did anything about it.
- 11:07Speaker 5: We're going to do things about it like you wouldn't believe.
- 11:10Speaker 5: It's time for dramatic action. We're gonna do the same
- 11:13Speaker 5: thing all me.
- 11:13Speaker 6: It's going to be a very safe city, very So
- 11:15Speaker 6: we're not looking to just take years because a lot of.
- 11:18Speaker 5: People die in years.
- 11:19Speaker 6: And we've got incredible people in this country, except we
- 11:23Speaker 6: have to allow them to do their job, and that
- 11:29Speaker 6: we will deliver like nobody's ever delivered before. I actually
- 11:35Speaker 6: think it's easy, you know, if you're competent, it's easy.
- 11:38Speaker 5: If you're incompetent, it's impossible.
- 11:40Speaker 1: That's true. But I'm going to give you an example
- 11:43Speaker 1: of what he means. I owned the restaurant for a while,
- 11:47Speaker 1: a few years, probably three years, I think it was
- 11:49Speaker 1: three years. We owned the restaurant downtown, and I would
- 11:52Speaker 1: have these people come, these liberal organizations come, and it
- 11:57Speaker 1: would take literally a year year of planning and dictating
- 12:04Speaker 1: whose responsibility is what before it even had anything going.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And then you take business owners like myself and my
- 12:10Speaker 1: wife and we decide tomorrow we're going into the sewage business.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Well guess what. In a month, we're in the sewage
- 12:16Speaker 1: business like we just don't. There's a difference, right, And
- 12:20Speaker 1: there's a difference in politics, There's a difference in the
- 12:25Speaker 1: liberal establishment.
- 12:26Speaker 2: There's a difference in government running of things.
- 12:31Speaker 1: You will find people like Donald Trump or myself are
- 12:35Speaker 1: other entrepreneurs where we we're not waiting like we're making
- 12:40Speaker 1: a move. The move is going to be made today.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I'm ready to go. My wife's even faster than I am.
- 12:46Speaker 1: She's ready to go. If we make a decision, we're
- 12:49Speaker 1: going get the fuck out the way we're going.
- 12:51Speaker 2: But I find that when there's this.
- 12:55Speaker 1: On the liberal perspective, it's that they have a study,
- 12:58Speaker 1: they have to study it, they have to.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Have meeting after meeting after meeting. No, here's the problem.
- 13:05Speaker 2: What is the solution. This is the solution.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Boom.
- 13:08Speaker 2: By next week I would.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Have Okay, so the problem is crime in lower income areas.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So by the end of the week, I would have
- 13:17Speaker 1: mobile trailers with the biggest police department logo on it,
- 13:22Speaker 1: sitting in each one of these communities, with three police
- 13:24Speaker 1: cars and every three blocks, I would have those as
- 13:28Speaker 1: mobile stations every three blocks. I'd do that immediately. I
- 13:32Speaker 1: could have that done today is Tuesday. I could have
- 13:35Speaker 1: that done by Friday. There's no study.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Needs to be done. All the statistics are there. Get
- 13:41Speaker 2: it done precompetent.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Last week, my administration searched five hundred federal agents into
- 13:49Speaker 6: the district, including from the FBI atf DEEA Park Police,
- 13:56Speaker 6: to US Marshall Service, the Secret Service, and the Department
- 14:00Speaker 6: of Homeland Security.
- 14:02Speaker 5: You know a lot of nations.
- 14:04Speaker 2: They don't have anything like that.
- 14:06Speaker 5: They got some police, and they're rough police.
- 14:11Speaker 6: They don't have the eaatf FBI Park Police, US Martial Service,
- 14:16Speaker 6: Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security. They got some police,
- 14:23Speaker 6: but they're rough police and they do their job.
- 14:25Speaker 2: They don't have crime. We're not gonna have crime either.
- 14:30Speaker 5: They made dozens of arrests, and that's.
- 14:33Speaker 6: What that's what starts to happen again, cashless bail.
- 14:40Speaker 5: Watch what we do with that.
- 14:41Speaker 6: Today we're formally declaring a public safety emergency.
- 14:45Speaker 5: This is an emergency. This is a tragic emergency.
- 14:49Speaker 6: And it's embarrassing for me to be up here.
- 14:51Speaker 5: You know, I'm going to see Putin. I'm going to
- 14:53Speaker 5: Russia on Friday.
- 14:56Speaker 6: I don't like being up here talking about how unsafe
- 14:58Speaker 6: and how dirty and discuss once beautiful capital was with
- 15:04Speaker 6: graffiti all over the walls.
- 15:06Speaker 5: It's another part.
- 15:06Speaker 6: Of it, by the way, because we're talking about safety,
- 15:09Speaker 6: we're also talking about beautification. We're the most beautiful, potentially
- 15:13Speaker 6: capital in the world.
- 15:14Speaker 5: We always had.
- 15:16Speaker 6: But people come from Iowa, they come from Indiana, they
- 15:19Speaker 6: come and then they get mugged.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Not going to happen.
- 15:21Speaker 6: Keep coming because within by the time you get your
- 15:24Speaker 6: trip set, it's going to be safe again, and it's
- 15:27Speaker 6: going to be cleaned very quickly. We're going to replace
- 15:29Speaker 6: the medians that are falling down all over the roads.
- 15:32Speaker 5: We're going to replace the potholes.
- 15:33Speaker 6: We're going to put a nice new coat of asphalt
- 15:35Speaker 6: over the top, knowing we don't have to rip the
- 15:38Speaker 6: road out and spend seven years building a new road
- 15:41Speaker 6: because they cut everything that because some designers said, well
- 15:44Speaker 6: we need a quarter of an inch more turn for
- 15:47Speaker 6: safety reasons.
- 15:49Speaker 5: We're going to do it right. We're going to get
- 15:51Speaker 5: it done quickly.
- 15:53Speaker 6: So today we're declaring public safety emergency in the District
- 15:58Speaker 6: of Columbia. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who's fantastic, is taking
- 16:03Speaker 6: command of the Metropolitan Police Department as of this moment,
- 16:09Speaker 6: and I'll be making the appropriate notifications to.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Congress and old to the mayor. Our new dea administrator
- 16:15Speaker 5: who's one of the top in the country. Look, he
- 16:18Speaker 5: better be, Terry, if you're not going to get rid
- 16:20Speaker 5: of you.
- 16:20Speaker 6: So fast, Terry Cole, Terry, thanks very good. We just
- 16:25Speaker 6: just got the most highly recommended person. And you'll be
- 16:30Speaker 6: designated as the interim Federal Commissioner of the.
- 16:35Speaker 5: Metropolitan Police Department. Okay, and you run them tough. They're good.
- 16:39Speaker 6: You have a lot of good people you have people
- 16:41Speaker 6: that shouldn't be there, you also have people that shouldn't.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Be That's the crazy part about this.
- 16:45Speaker 1: There's some police departments, there are people out there that
- 16:48Speaker 1: want to do their job, not some police departments. Every
- 16:51Speaker 1: police department has police officers that want to do their job.
- 16:55Speaker 1: But we've had such an influx of social warrior. Are
- 17:00Speaker 1: social justice warriors in all levels of government, education, authority, planning, administration, permitting.
- 17:11Speaker 1: These social justice warriors who refuse to do their job,
- 17:16Speaker 1: they just have social justice in their DNA, and it's
- 17:22Speaker 1: fucking disgusting. I don't give a shit about your social justice.
- 17:28Speaker 1: The same things that apply to me should apply to you,
- 17:31Speaker 1: regardless of if you're black, white, yellow, green, Asian Korean.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I don't give a fat baby's dick what you are,
- 17:39Speaker 1: who you think you are.
- 17:41Speaker 2: We are all the same.
- 17:43Speaker 1: That all this bullshit about racism and recidivism and taking
- 17:49Speaker 1: away having cash lists, bail and all this other stuff
- 17:54Speaker 1: is bullshit.
- 17:56Speaker 2: There has to be a punishment for wrongdoing.
- 18:00Speaker 1: If you raise your children the way that they treat criminals,
- 18:03Speaker 1: you're asking for trouble. There has to be consequences to
- 18:08Speaker 1: bad behavior, and right now in America there is no
- 18:13Speaker 1: consequence for bad behavior in Democrat and liberal runs states
- 18:17Speaker 1: and cities.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Absolutely none.
- 18:20Speaker 5: There. They got in there because of woke.
- 18:23Speaker 6: But you have a lot of great police and those
- 18:26Speaker 6: people are the ones that want to help you out.
- 18:28Speaker 7: Pamela, it was more than an hour and he started
- 18:30Speaker 7: this news conference and it's been going on and on,
- 18:33Speaker 7: answering a bunch of questions.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah, and this is significant because what he announced.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Today is a federal takeover of DC police and deploying
- 18:41Speaker 4: the National Guard.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I mean, this is, as far as I know, unprecedented
- 18:45Speaker 3: to hear a.
- 18:46Speaker 7: National Guard and potentially other US military troops down.
- 18:49Speaker 2: The road exactly.
- 18:51Speaker 1: So it's unprecedented, but it's legal and it's lawful. Don't
- 18:55Speaker 1: forget that it's legal and it's lawful.
- 18:58Speaker 3: He made it clear that this could just be the beginning,
- 19:01Speaker 3: that it might not just be DC, and I think
- 19:04Speaker 3: that that is significant as well. And of course this
- 19:06Speaker 3: is an extraordinary move by the President. I want to
- 19:09Speaker 3: bring in our Brian Todd here. Brian, we're already getting
- 19:12Speaker 3: reaction from DC Council members.
- 19:13Speaker 5: We are, Pamela and Wolf.
- 19:15Speaker 8: This coming into CNN from Council member Charles Allen of
- 19:19Speaker 8: the sixth ward in DC. His post is quote the
- 19:22Speaker 8: President taking over local control of MPD and putting the
- 19:26Speaker 8: US military onto the streets of DC under the guise
- 19:28Speaker 8: of public safety is wrong. It's an extreme, outrageous and
- 19:32Speaker 8: dangerous move for our city and the safety of all
- 19:34Speaker 8: of our residents. He's the first.
- 19:37Speaker 1: How is it dangerous for the safety of the residents? Please,
- 19:42Speaker 1: one of y'all watching this, please explain to me how
- 19:45Speaker 1: this is dangerous for the citizens of the city. How
- 19:50Speaker 1: is it dangerous? This is black fatigue speaking. These people
- 19:58Speaker 1: are sick and disgusting.
- 20:00Speaker 8: City council member to react to this whole thing. None
- 20:04Speaker 8: of them had reacted really last week to this in
- 20:07Speaker 8: any real measure. This is the first time a city
- 20:09Speaker 8: council member has reacted and come out strongly on this.
- 20:11Speaker 8: We're also reaching out to Mayor Muriel Bowser's office in
- 20:14Speaker 8: the office of the Metropolitan Washington Police Department for their response.
- 20:18Speaker 8: We started to reach out to them while this news
- 20:20Speaker 8: conference was going on.
- 20:21Speaker 2: No word back from them yet.
- 20:22Speaker 8: The mayor has been fairly muted in her comments on this.
- 20:26Speaker 8: She did speak out yesterday in an interview, but did
- 20:28Speaker 8: not openly criticize the President. For this, it's an extraordinary move.
- 20:32Speaker 8: We have to point out, never before in American history
- 20:35Speaker 8: has the US president taken over control of the Metropolitan Washington,
- 20:38Speaker 8: DC Police department. How is this going to work on
- 20:41Speaker 8: the streets? How is it going to work from a
- 20:43Speaker 8: command and control standpoint? That is a huge, huge question.
- 20:47Speaker 8: And of course his threat to do this in other cities.
- 20:50Speaker 8: We'll see how that plays out. I think you've got
- 20:52Speaker 8: to see how it really plays out here first, right,
- 20:54Speaker 8: And we should.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Also note that he talked about moving the homeless population
- 20:58Speaker 4: and see thousands of people far away without offering those specifics.
- 21:02Speaker 2: He didn't say where they were going.
- 21:04Speaker 7: I want to bring in our senior White House reporter,
- 21:06Speaker 7: Kevin Liptek. Kevin, you've been monitoring this very very closely.
- 21:09Speaker 7: What jumps outed you?
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:12Speaker 9: And I think the president's steps here to federalize the
- 21:15Speaker 9: DC police for certainly very significant. What we didn't hear
- 21:19Speaker 9: from the President was how long that would last? You know,
- 21:22Speaker 9: the statute that he's using the DC Home Rule Act
- 21:26Speaker 9: allows for initial federalization for forty eight hours before notifying Congress.
- 21:30Speaker 9: He said that he was doing that, So beyond that,
- 21:32Speaker 9: we don't know exactly how long it would last. The
- 21:35Speaker 9: other thing that stuck out was the President raising open
- 21:38Speaker 9: the possibility that he would use active duty troops as
- 21:41Speaker 9: part of this effort, saying that they would be ready
- 21:44Speaker 9: as needed to join the federal our National Guard to
- 21:48Speaker 9: help support law enforcement in the city. And you really
- 21:51Speaker 9: did hear the President paint quite a dystopian picture of Washington,
- 21:55Speaker 9: d C. Saying that it was overtaken by violent gangs,
- 21:58Speaker 9: by bloodthirsty criminals. Using this imagery that doesn't necessarily comport
- 22:03Speaker 9: with a lot of people's experience in this city, but
- 22:05Speaker 9: also with what the actual number show.
- 22:07Speaker 1: You know, you see how they the framing this. This
- 22:12Speaker 1: is not the experience that most of us have experience. Well,
- 22:16Speaker 1: it's experience enough for the poor people that there needs
- 22:19Speaker 1: to be a change. What kind of I don't understand
- 22:23Speaker 1: the liberal bs. I just don't get it. It is disgusting,
- 22:30Speaker 1: Like disgusting.
- 22:31Speaker 9: Statistics do show. Yet violent crime in Washington is falling
- 22:36Speaker 9: since reaching a peak in twenty twenty three. The President's
- 22:40Speaker 9: age dispute some of those figures.
- 22:42Speaker 1: You heard the.
- 22:42Speaker 9: President come out saying that some of those statistics might
- 22:45Speaker 9: have been cooked. But really, when you look at the numbers.
- 22:48Speaker 9: What the president is painting is an image that doesn't
- 22:51Speaker 9: necessarily match up, oh with what the figure show, but
- 22:54Speaker 9: also with what a lot of people's experience in the
- 22:57Speaker 9: city is. And so a significant step by the president
- 23:00Speaker 9: certainly today.
- 23:02Speaker 7: All right, Kevin, looktak at the White House for us. Kevin,
- 23:05Speaker 7: thank you very very much.
- 23:06Speaker 9: I have some payments on my credit report that were fault.
- 23:09Speaker 1: It was more of a frustration and a disappointment. All right,
- 23:14Speaker 1: So that's the end of it. Please let me know
- 23:16Speaker 1: what you think. I believe that I'm on the fence.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I think that something needs to be done. Is it
- 23:22Speaker 1: his responsibility? Is it his job to do it? I
- 23:25Speaker 1: really don't know, but something needs to be done in
- 23:28Speaker 1: many liberal Democrat run cities. The black population of America
- 23:35Speaker 1: is disproportionately suffering, and blacks can't manage themselves. So put
- 23:41Speaker 1: more police force in their communities. I don't know if
- 23:45Speaker 1: that's the right move. I don't see it as a
- 23:47Speaker 1: horrible move, but I steal them on the fence. I
- 23:50Speaker 1: just don't know, but something does need to be done.
- 23:53Speaker 1: So this is gil Please like, subscribe, share, and comment.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Thank you for watching. I'll have something for you again. Tomorrow,
