- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to the Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:05to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:08I'm your host, Andrew McGivern for September 30th.
- 0:12Today is International Podcast Day, and I have to say, there's
- 0:16something wonderfully meta about celebrating this holiday on a
- 0:19podcast. International Podcast Day was
- 0:23created in 2014 by Steve Lee, who was inspired after hearing
- 0:28about National Senior Citizens Day on the radio, and he
- 0:32wondered why it wasn't there a day celebrating podcasts.
- 0:36What started as National Podcast Day in the United States quickly
- 0:41went global, becoming International Podcast Day in
- 0:452015. Since then, September 30th has
- 0:47become a worldwide celebration featuring hundreds of podcasters
- 0:51from nearly 100 countries with live stream special episodes in
- 0:56events honoring this transformative medium.
- 1:00Podcasts have revolutionized how we consume audio content.
- 1:04Unlike traditional radio, podcasts are on demand, allowing
- 1:09us to learn, laugh, and connect with voices from around the
- 1:11world, whenever and wherever we choose.
- 1:16From true crime to comedy, from science to storytelling,
- 1:21podcasts have democratized broadcasting and given voice
- 1:25perspectives that might never have found their way onto
- 1:28traditional airwaves. Which brings me to today's quote
- 1:32from Brené Brown, who once said stories are just data with the
- 1:38soul. Brown's observation captures
- 1:42exactly what makes podcasts so powerful and why International
- 1:46Podcast Day is worth celebrating.
- 1:49In our data saturated world, we're drowning in information
- 1:52but often starving for connection.
- 1:55Podcasts bridge that gap by wrapping information and story
- 1:59context and authentic human voice.
- 2:03Now I know there are AI podcast voices now, but who wants to
- 2:07listen to that? I suppose there are some edge
- 2:10cases, like if someone loses the ability to speak in a clone
- 2:15voice and allow them to keep going.
- 2:18But think about why you listen to podcasts.
- 2:22It's rarely just for the facts. You could read those faster in
- 2:25an article. What draws us to podcasts is the
- 2:29soul that comes through. The passion in someone's voice
- 2:32when they're talking about their expertise, the vulnerability
- 2:36when they share a personal story, the laughter that makes
- 2:40information feel like conversation with a friend.
- 2:43Podcasts succeed where other media sometimes fail because
- 2:47they create intimate connections.
- 2:50When you regularly listen to a podcast, you feel like you know
- 2:54the host. Their voice becomes familiar,
- 2:57trusted, part of your routine. They're not just delivering
- 3:01data. They're sharing their humanity,
- 3:04their perspective, their soul. We lost one of podcasting's
- 3:11greats a couple weeks ago. Hall of Fame podcaster Todd
- 3:15Cochran, founder of Bravois Blueberry podcast hosting
- 3:20company, host of Geek News Central and Co host of the New
- 3:23Media Show. I didn't know Todd personally.
- 3:28I interacted with him on social media and e-mail maybe a few
- 3:32times over the years. He didn't know me, but I must
- 3:37have listened to his voice for hundreds of hours.
- 3:41I did feel like I knew Todd and I relied on his opinion and
- 3:45appreciated what he was doing for the industry.
- 3:49Rest in peace, Todd Brown understood that information
- 3:55without emotion, facts without context, data without story,
- 4:01these things don't move us or change us.
- 4:04But when you add soul, something an AI voice can't have, when you
- 4:09connect information to human experience, that's when real
- 4:13understanding and transformation happen.
- 4:17I discovered podcasting in 2008 and immediately started one,
- 4:22then another, and another. And once I discovered
- 4:27podcasting, I started listening to podcasts.
- 4:30And suddenly that commute wasn't wasted time anymore.
- 4:33It became education, time, entertainment, connection to
- 4:38ideas and people who I'd never encounter otherwise.
- 4:42So today, think about Brown's wisdom and the power of stories
- 4:45to give soul to information. Whether you're a podcast
- 4:48listener, creator, or a boat, consider how you can honor the
- 4:53spirit of International Podcast Day.
- 4:56Maybe it's finally starting that podcast you've been thinking
- 4:58about creating. Maybe it's supporting your
- 5:01favorite podcast by leaving a review or sharing it with
- 5:04somebody. Reviews and comments really do
- 5:08matter. Not for any magic algorithm
- 5:10thing, but it fills up the emotional gas tank of the
- 5:13podcaster. It reminds them why they are
- 5:16doing what they do. If you're not a podcaster, maybe
- 5:20use this day as a reminder to approach your own
- 5:23communications, whether it's a work presentation or a
- 5:26conversation with a friend. With more story, more
- 5:31authenticity, more soul. Podcasting revolution happened
- 5:36because people realize that everyone has a story worth
- 5:40telling and everyone deserves access to stories worth hearing.
- 5:45That's something worth celebrating.
- 5:48That's going to do it for today. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off
- 5:51for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 5:57Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
