Amy: I just was in a heartbeat. I've actually never told this story in detail detail even to my family members.
• 0:05
Whitney: And he goes, oh my gosh, is someone bleeding? And there was blood drops all along my floor. Why is this not working? Working? Like, why am I not pregnant?
• 0:14
I panicked, called 911. The second the door opened, all the paramedics came in, I just started crying. I faked it in the video. I faked not knowing.
• 0:23
Lauren: We're here, guys. We finally made it.
• 0:25
  Whitney: I know.
• 0:25
Amy: I actually can't believe this is happening. I'm We've all started from, like, an idea, and now we're literally sitting here. It is kinda bizarre. I know.
• 0:33
Whitney: I mean, like, how long ago was the idea? Like, two
• 0:35
Amy: months ago when we just made it happen. Yeah.
• 0:37
Whitney: No. The idea was longer.
• 0:40
Amy: Oh, yeah. You're right. The idea was that your idea made it all happen in the
• 0:43
Whitney: last It was all blank and I was like, okay. We're not gonna do that. And then we were like, wait. That's a good idea. Mhmm.
• 0:50
Maybe we should. And then we just... It just kept morphing and then we're like, okay. Let's get the equipment and the set.
• 0:55
Amy: Yeah. So was thinking we just start by introducing ourselves and then we'll go into like how we met Yeah. And everything. I love it. My name is Amy Mesado.
• 1:03
I am a content creator. I started YouTube thirteen years ago. I have one four year old boy. I'm pregnant with a girl. And should we get into, like, how I started YouTube a little bit?
• 1:13
Yeah. I wanna be long winded. But I just randomly wanted to start YouTube one day, and I remember kinda telling a couple people in my life, and they all sort of laughed at me. Literally all laughed at me. But then I told my husband who was my boyfriend at the time and he was like, so do it.
• 1:29
Like you should just do it. Yeah. And just to have somebody just like say with such confidence that it wasn't a big deal and that I should just totally do it, just really gave me that confidence. I think he even started my Gmail because you needed like a Gmail to connect to YouTube. So he like did that for me and it just like kind of gave me the push that I needed.
• 1:44
So yeah it's just I've just been a content creator since then. I do Instagram and TikTok now too. And yeah. That's been like your sole job? Yeah that's been my sole job.
• 1:54
I haven't worked like a typical nine to five since what twenty sixteen twenty fifteen.
• 2:03
Whitney: So when did you realize that you could become a content creator full time? Like
• 2:09
Amy: Yeah. What was, like, the biggest moment for me? And I think I think I might have told this to you, but I don't think I've never told you this, Whitney. Yeah. Think so.
• 2:16
I used to... So I worked at this depart... Not department store. What's it called?
• 2:21
  Whitney: A convenience store.
• 2:22
Amy: Well, not a convenience store. Like a CVS, but in Canada,
• 2:25
Whitney: it's called Shoppers Drug Mart. Oh, like the pharmacy?
• 2:27
Amy: Yes. Pharmacy type of Uh-huh. So I worked in the beauty counter. And there was this guy there, and he went and told the manager that I was on my phone all the time. And so I got in trouble.
• 2:36
But funny enough, I was on my phone all the time because I'm answering emails, and I'm getting these deals that are paying me, like, way more than I'm obviously making at my job. Mhmm. So when I'm getting in trouble for that, I'm like, okay. Maybe this is, like, not making sense for me to even be here. But I was, like, really scared to quit.
• 2:52
Like, I remember being so scared. I remember my family telling me that I was crazy.
• 2:57
  Whitney: Oh, yeah.
• 2:57
Amy: Yeah. My dad was like, you're insane. Like, you never quit your job. Like, just to do, like, what on the Internet? Steady.
• 3:04
  Yeah.
• 3:04
Whitney: That was, like, before your time too, though. Like, making something like that a full time position Mhmm. For you to have income. Yeah. I mean, it's so popular now because it's such a nice revenue for people.
• 3:16
But back then, that wasn't something you heard of every day.
• 3:19
Amy: No. It wasn't. Like, people would...
• 3:21
Whitney: It's a big leap. Yeah.
• 3:22
Amy: Yeah. It was weird telling people that I did it because they would ask so many questions and, like, it was just weird. But, like, nowadays, like, people just know. Mhmm. Yeah.
• 3:29
  You know? It's just different.
• 3:30
Whitney: You see someone walking down the street with their phone out, you're like, oh, yep. Influencer.
• 3:33
Amy: Yeah. Exactly. It's just such a normal thing.
• 3:35
Whitney: And you said after you quit your job, you like got your own place too.
• 3:39
Amy: So then I quit my job, which my husband again was the one who like believed in me. Mhmm. And he was the one who sort of said like, you totally can quit. Like you can see. Like, let's look at the map.
• 3:50
We're good here, you know? But it was just like, my parents were like, you're insane. Yeah. But then I moved out and then they thought I was insane for that too because I was like 21 and they're like, you're quitting your job. You're moving out with your boyfriend.
• 4:03
  She's insane.
• 4:04
Whitney: They're like, where do we actually put her in a facility?
• 4:07
Amy: I know. She's like, I actually think something's wrong with our youngest daughter. But, anyways... Yeah. And then my son goes to school three days a week.
• 4:15
So I'm home with him two days of the week, and then he goes to school the other three days. But
• 4:19
Whitney: Yeah. What's your schedule like with work? Like, do you, like... What are the days that you work, and do you just make a bunch of it? Like, how does it work?
• 4:26
Amy: I usually bulk film. And then, yeah, I'll just do all of my work in those three days that he is in school and then the other two days I really try my best not always but I do try my best to just be full stay at home mom mode.
• 4:38
Whitney: And then do you give yourself a weekend? Yeah 100. Oh yeah. That's so
• 4:41
Amy: good. Don't play but my weekend. Was like mom don't play on a weekend.
• 4:45
Whitney: I mean that's only five
• 4:46
Amy: days. We're the only two days. Yeah. But... Yeah.
• 4:50
So do want... What about you, Lauren?
• 4:51
Whitney: Yeah. My name is Lauren. I I own a seltzer company out here in Tennessee. It's made with Tennessee vodka and sweetened with Tennessee honey. So that's been a really fun adventure.
• 5:05
And before that, I helped family with bookkeeping and investments and all that fun stuff. I'm a mom of two girls, and they go to school... Well, my oldest goes to school five days a week, and then my youngest goes two days a week. And then I have help that comes to watch my youngest while I'm out and about working. So I get to make my own schedule, but it's also my job is very taxing and really needs me places.
• 5:31
So, you know, battling the mom guilt of having to go get pulled to work and, also wanting to be with the kids, but then also wanting that I... You know you know how it is.
• 5:42
Amy: Yeah. And you're really like... I feel like it's... Sounds glamorous when you say like own a seltzer company but you're like you're out there doing Oh, yeah. Doing the work.
• 5:52
You're like downtown Oh, yeah. Lifting boxes if you need to.
• 5:55
Whitney: You do not have standard office hours. And like I think people think that you can like assign that to yourself and be like, oh, I'm gonna only work this time to this time but like that's just not true for you.
• 6:04
  Amy: It's not true.
• 6:05
Whitney: You are always Yeah. Go go go. Go go go. And I'll never forget, like, specifically, we were at ACM. Yes.
• 6:13
And, it's this beautiful glamorous event with all these, like, celebrities. It's just amazing. Mhmm. I The coolest day of my life. Yeah.
• 6:22
And me. So fun. I had such impostor syndrome. Then I whisper over to Blake and I go back at the liquor stores tomorrow. Yeah.
• 6:29
You know, like that's Yeah. The non glamorous part. And, you know, it's been fun though. I'm blessed. But, yeah, it's a lot of work especially starting it when you have little kids.
• 6:40
Yeah. Well, you started it from the literal ground up.
• 6:42
  Amy: Yeah. I know.
• 6:43
Whitney: In April, it's been what? Five months? Yeah. Six
• 6:46
Amy: months? I always say it amazes me that you you had your regular job. You have two girls, and then you started this company, like, from the ground up doing all the research. Like, it's just... It blows my mind.
• 6:59
  I actually
• 7:00
Whitney: just don't know how I did it. Like, just believe you just you just did it. You just did it. Just do it. Yeah.
• 7:04
And you only recently started scaling back with working with your family. Yeah. I was doing that on top of 10 pop, and it was to the point where I was like, I actually can't do it. Yeah. Yeah.
• 7:16
Amy: And the girls were only going to school half day at that point. So I I remember literally being like, I don't know how she has the girls in school half day. Yeah. Because I don't do, like, half of what you do, and I could not. Oh my goodness.
• 7:31
  Yeah. I don't
• 7:31
Whitney: know how you found the hours in the day. We have the same twenty four hours, and I'm like, our twenty four hours are not the same.
• 7:36
Amy: They're not the same. I will tell
• 7:37
Whitney: you that right now. I'm like, you must have actually twenty eight hours in a day because I have the same twenty four and it's... I feel like I'm like, I need more time. Like, how do... I have no idea.
• 7:48
I don't know. And I was still managing, like, when we first started to work out, and that is completely gone. I don't work out, and I don't eat now. Now it's a lot of fast food, which you know me, and I care about what goes in my body. But, like Yeah.
• 7:59
  Amy: It's just Lot of
• 8:00
Whitney: fresh. Gotta give. Yeah. So we're hoping that the health holds out for a little bit longer, and that intermittent fasting is actually, you know, longevity. It would be unintentional intermittent fasting.
• 8:11
Yeah. The unintentional. I'm gonna live forever, y'all.
• 8:13
Amy: Yeah. No. Absolutely. And then what about you, Whitney?
• 8:16
Whitney: Hi. My name is Whitney. I am a stay at home mom to two boys. Mhmm. And my husband is a firefighter, so I couldn't even begin to tell you what a schedule looks like because every every day is slightly different variation of it.
• 8:36
Know, one day my husband is home, you know, he could be gone for three days, he could be gone for two days, he could be gone for one day. Sometimes he's even gone for a partial which just really, it's predictable in the sense that we have his schedule for the year but it can be just ever evolving especially when he does a lot within his department that does change you know his working demands and going in and teaching EMS on a Friday it's just there's never been a week that our schedule looks the same ever. It's intense. Yeah it's intense but in the same breath like it's all I know you know it's not like this is anything new to me. We were married before, we had kids but Derek was always a fireman.
• 9:25
We got married when... Oh goodness we were so young.
• 9:30
Amy: So young. How old were you when you got married? Derek was
• 9:36
Whitney: 21 Wow. And 20 Yeah so young and he was going through the fire academy in, college at that time so genuinely from our marriage until now this is the only lifestyle we've known so I find that a big blessing because I don't really have anything to compare it to it's like this is what we do. Yeah. This is what we do. Yeah.
• 9:59
So, it's been great. I love it. I know it's not meant for everybody but it does really work for us in that regard. Do you get a break with the boys? Like, what's their school schedule?
• 10:10
Do they have a school schedule? So my oldest, he's the only one that's in school. He's four, and then I have a two year old. And he goes to school, the oldest. He only goes three days and he does half days so he only goes for two and a half hours which Wow.
• 10:26
Wish it was longer. That's your break. Crazy. Yeah. That's my break.
• 10:31
We don't really have much family to help on a daily basis where we live, which also I don't live in Tennessee. Yeah.
• 10:39
  Amy: I was just gonna
• 10:40
  Whitney: say... Pause. Yeah.
• 10:41
Amy: I was just gonna say, we need to give a huge shout out to the fact that Whitney literally flew here
• 10:46
  Whitney: I did.
• 10:47
Amy: Last night from Vegas. I did. To film this podcast. Seriously. The commitment.
• 10:51
Whitney: Yes. The commitment. The dedication. The boss. The ambition.
• 10:54
Literally. It's there. It's there. Yes. I hopped on a flight.
• 10:59
Not at LA. I hopped on a flight. I came here. My husband is holding it down with the boys right now, which thank goodness to him. He's a rock star.
• 11:10
  Yeah.
• 11:10
Amy: And This is just a part of being, like, a working mom. Yeah.
• 11:13
Whitney: It's crazy. And having the partner to be able to stay back and be like go babe and like Sam like it's super important like you had Lorenzo, you have Derek, I've got Blake. It's really nice to have that support because we need it. And you
• 11:25
Amy: also started content creation now which is exciting. Yeah. So exciting. She's killing it by the We're getting our
• 11:30
Whitney: toes wet into this content creating. She is killing it. Yes. She's so sweet.
• 11:34
  Amy: She
• 11:34
Whitney: is. Coming from the queen herself. I'll take it. I'll be like, no. Amy said I'm doing great sounding.
• 11:39
Amy: No. I remember telling you months ago. Was like, you need to do this. Like, I just... I already saw it in her.
• 11:44
I was like, you totally could be a content creator.
• 11:47
  Whitney: Can see it.
• 11:47
Amy: You have the aesthetic for it. You just have, like, the attention to detail. Mhmm. I was like, you'll kill it. I knew I knew you'd kill it.
• 11:53
Whitney: Yeah. You're so sweet. Thank you, guys. It was literally a combo of just similar to you, Amy. So many people being like, Whitney, why are you not actively pursuing this?
• 12:02
Why are you not doing this? Yeah. And I was like, you know what? Like, why am I not doing this? You know, I'm a stay at home mom.
• 12:10
I would love to have something kind of just for myself. Yes. Yeah. And it's so fun. Mhmm.
• 12:16
Like, even even if it becomes nothing, I'd still love it. Yeah. There's videos that I've made that I truly will just cherish, and I wouldn't have set up my phone and captured that moment without it.
• 12:28
Amy: Yeah. It... There's such a beauty to the convention. It's not like all vanity.
• 12:31
Whitney: For your Sunday vlogs. I'm like Oh my god. It's exciting on us. Yeah. Like, I get excited to get on the SendPop phone because that's the only place I have TikTok on.
• 12:40
  Amy: Thank
• 12:41
Whitney: you. And I'm like, oh, what's she up to on Sunday? Yeah.
• 12:44
  Amy: What did she
• 12:44
Whitney: wear at church? That's how I was just gonna say, you know what I'm up to? I'm going to church.
• 12:47
Amy: Yeah. So I also wanted to get into how we all met because I've Yeah. Obviously, people don't know that, and I feel like it's just such a... Especially yours and Whitney's story is very interesting. Yeah.
• 12:56
  It's kind of crazy.
• 12:57
Whitney: Yeah. It's so So divine for sure. You should start it because she actually wasn't there. Origin. I wasn't there when we met.
• 13:05
She didn't actually meet Whitney. Oh my goodness. Yes. Okay, so I'll just start the story. So my oldest daughter had a febrile seizure, I'd never experienced it before.
• 13:18
She got too hot too fast and was shaking. I panicked and called 911. And, the second the door opened, all the paramedics came in, and I just started crying. And Derek, Whitney's husband, was the one that led the entire thing. And he took the blanket that I put on my child who had a fever off.
• 13:39
He's like, we're just gonna take that off. Aw. And was just walking me through it and calmed me down and was like, okay. We're gonna get into the ambulance, and we're just gonna take you. Like, she's good, but let's just go in.
• 13:51
So we get in the ambulance, and it's just me Derek in the back. And he's just talking to me while I'm pregnant with my second, and I've got my oldest on me. And he's just kinda, like, talking me off and just like
• 14:04
  Amy: Yeah.
• 14:05
Whitney: So what... Like, how... Like, are... Oh, you're pregnant. When are you due?
• 14:09
You know? Oh, my wife, this is my son. She showed me a picture. And I was like, oh my goodness. Your wife's so beautiful.
• 14:14
And he's like, oh, yeah. You guys would love each other. And then I don't even know, like obviously it was so long ago at this point, but he was like, yeah, you guys would love each other. I'll give your wife my number. I don't remember if it was in in the ambulance or if it was at the hospital.
• 14:29
And then he saw Blake's lightning, Blake was trying to get ahold of me, poor buddy, I was in the back of... I was just talking to Derek. Blake's like, oh my goodness, what's going on? Is my child okay? Anyways, we get to the hospital, Blake shows up, Derek and him bro out, not realizing that they were gonna become best friends.
• 14:45
Bro, man. Derek actually, like, pimping me out also. Yeah. Totally.
• 14:48
  Amy: I know.
• 14:48
Whitney: Like, he literally is pimping me out and being like, yeah. My wife, she needs friends. Let me just, like, add anyone and all the patients are just getting my number now.
• 14:55
  Amy: It was great.
• 14:55
Whitney: It was really better not. It's not special. No.
• 14:58
Amy: We're gonna have to have a talk.
• 15:00
Whitney: How many how many girls' numbers are
• 15:02
  Amy: you gonna...
• 15:02
Whitney: No. I didn't wanna tell you this. Then, we start texting. I think you gave me a couple days before you reach out, and then you text me. And we will text and then not speak for, like, a couple weeks, and then we would, like, be like, yeah.
• 15:18
Let's get together. And it was just going in blind. Like, how was it when Derek told you? Oh my gosh. No.
• 15:24
It was the weirdest thing. Honestly, I was like... I I remember him calling me before he gave the phone number out. He goes, hey, babe. So would you be okay if I gave this girl your number?
• 15:39
I think you guys would be really good friends. You. Okay. I texted you. Yeah.
• 15:42
And so I was like, I'm sorry. What?
• 15:45
  Amy: That's so funny. What?
• 15:46
Whitney: What? And he's like, no. Like, I really... Like, she's like, you're so... Like, your your vibe, like, your aesthetic, like, all these things.
• 15:53
Like, he's like, I just think, like, you guys would be really good friends. And I was like, okay. Mind you, Derek and I had just moved to Vegas. So, like, I think he truly was just trying to be so kind and, like, get me friends. So He's so sweet.
• 16:06
Yeah. It was really sweet. And I was like, okay. Sure. Okay.
• 16:11
Then I And so then he tech... No. This is the... I don't think I ever told you this part. He told me, like, your name and your last name.
• 16:17
You didn't have social media at the time. So I was like, Derek just gave my number out to this nobody. Person? This random person. I have no idea who this is.
• 16:27
  That's hilarious.
• 16:28
Amy: And I'm I would have been mortified.
• 16:30
Whitney: Do... No. Literally, what is he doing? What is this man doing? And so I...
• 16:35
You texted me. We talked, and then radio silence for not weeks. I had a baby before. Had a baby. I literally, like, went through my, like, nobody talked to me.
• 16:44
I'm not hanging out with anybody phase Yes. Until August. Yeah. And then you texted me randomly, hey. Would you guys wanna go to a concert?
• 16:51
  A Drake concert.
• 16:53
Amy: A Drake concert. That's so random. Listen.
• 16:56
Whitney: Yeah. That is so random. Yeah. For sure. Derek pep talks her.
• 17:00
Before you get No. We're in the car. Alright, babe. So I've only met these people one time. So if they're weird, like, I'm really sorry, and I'm like, okay.
• 17:09
Awesome. So weird. Literally awesome. We are about to go into a concert. And, like, a concert is kind of like a weird, like, first meeting ground anyways to begin with.
• 17:17
And so you're like, I don't know how this is going to... We're meeting at their house too. Yeah. We walked in I'm putting my youngest down when they're in the house talking to Blake. We text him like, hey.
• 17:26
We're here. And you guys are like, oh, just come through the garage. I'm like, I've never met you. I'm walking into
• 17:29
Amy: your house by the way though to totally just like randomly go to a concert with someone she doesn't know.
• 17:35
Whitney: And so then we walk in the... Into the room. Lauren's not there. It's just Blake in the kitchen. Funny.
• 17:42
And I'm like, hi. I'm Whitney. And then they're like, hey, brother. Nice to see you again. Hey, Whitney.
• 17:46
I'm Blake. And then Lauren comes in, like, putting her earring in, like, hi. Hi, Nice to
• 17:51
Amy: meet you. Yep. That checks. Yeah. And then we literally go
• 17:54
Whitney: to a Drake concert, and it's Aw.
• 17:56
  Amy: I love that.
• 17:57
  Whitney: Rest of history.
• 17:58
Amy: That feels like fate, the fact that that happened to her, and then, you know, he was the firefighter on call, and then,
• 18:04
Whitney: I like literally have chills in, like, the fact that it was a happy ending. Like, Henley was completely fine. Yes. Yeah. Like It seriously feels divine.
• 18:12
It feels like a god was like, well, you guys are... Your paths aren't crossing. Okay? So I'm not going to interfere. We're gonna do this.
• 18:17
It was also crazy too because you actually originally had texted me, hey. Would you guys want to go to Blake or Ed Sheeran? Randomly, we picked Blake.
• 18:26
Amy: Neither of us. Randomly, we picked Drake. Sorry, y'all. So funny.
• 18:34
Whitney: Went to Blake's sponsor. Canceled. And so then if we had picked Ed Sheeran, we wouldn't have ever gone.
• 18:40
Amy: Oh, you wouldn't have ever... And you probably wouldn't have maybe made up for that.
• 18:42
Whitney: Yeah. Probably would have been, like, it's fine, like, whatever we tried. So, like, for us to pick Drake of... Between the two, I mean, my wedding song was Ed Sheeran. Why I didn't pick Ed Sheeran?
• 18:53
  I don't know.
• 18:54
Amy: Yeah. That is so good. Yeah.
• 18:57
Whitney: Were like, you know what? Drake's gonna be, like, less, like, you know. Yeah. I was gonna be more like the vibes. Yeah.
• 19:01
The vibes. I was like, yeah. Like, no one wants to hear me, like, do
• 19:04
Amy: my own If you're meeting someone for
• 19:06
Whitney: the first time, you probably don't wanna listen to anybody. Yeah. I'm like, you guys don't understand. This is my winning song. I'm emotional.
• 19:11
And they're like, is she crying? Oh my Yeah. And it was it was... Yeah. I'm so happy.
• 19:16
I feel so blessed. It's so crazy. And then Blake and Derek became besties. Like, they No. And they get confused.
• 19:22
  Amy: Of us. Yeah.
• 19:23
Whitney: Yeah. They get confused for brothers too. Oh, yeah. That's always just so funny. Like, they genuinely are just we're, like, all twin flames in
• 19:31
  Amy: that way Mhmm.
• 19:32
Whitney: Where Blake and Derek are just immediate best, like, best friends and then you and I obviously best friends. Mhmm. And, yeah, like, if anything were to ever happen, like, I don't know how the divorce of couples would go. Oh, goodness. Like, who's getting who?
• 19:47
I don't know. Who's getting who? I'm sorry. I... Like, the custody battle will be real.
• 19:51
Would be real. I mean, obviously, no one's getting divorced. No. No. No.
• 19:53
But it would be. That would be funny. That would be a conversation.
• 19:56
Amy: And then obviously, I met Whitney through you.
• 19:58
  Whitney: Yes.
• 19:59
Amy: And Which I don't even remember the... Like, where we met for the first time, I do remember it was July... Was it July last year or the year before that? The year before that. But it was maybe here at the house or something.
• 20:11
  Here. I don't remember but I do
• 20:14
  Whitney: That's such a good point, I don't know.
• 20:15
Amy: Yeah but I do remember you saying, you're like you need to meet my best friend Whitney. You're like you're going to love her, they're incredible. One thing I can appreciate
• 20:23
Whitney: One I too is when they came the first time, we had only hung out a handful of times. When they came the first time, they stayed with us. Yes. Within like
• 20:31
  Amy: a week.
• 20:32
Whitney: Yes. And so we actually... Our relationship really deepened during that week. Which again, another leap of faith. We knew we loved each other, but it just got deeper because we were like
• 20:43
Amy: Yeah to fly all the way from Vegas to come here so it's like
• 20:46
Whitney: I think when you in your adulthood it's so hard to make friends so when you meet incredible friends, especially as a mom, being a mom in your adult years and making new friends, you just really make the priority and you can immediately tell when it's gonna be a truly deep beautiful friendship Mhmm. And when it's like, oh maybe this isn't it because you don't have time as a mom to invest in things that aren't going to serve you. Quality over quantity all day.
• 21:18
Amy: All day. And then I met Lauren. So we first moved to the neighborhood that... So we used to live in the same neighborhood. Actually fun fact, me and Lauren live together.
• 21:29
Yay. Which people don't know that. Yes.
• 21:31
  Whitney: So I feel like
• 21:32
Amy: that's really fun. And it
• 21:33
Whitney: is roomy compound. I'm actually gonna be moving in two. You're gonna be funny. Right? Like, Lauren, you don't know, but I'm moving too.
• 21:39
Amy: Come on. But... So we purchased a home, and it's not gonna be built for a couple months. So Lauren was obviously incredible to offer us to live with her. And I was like, wait.
• 21:48
What? That's actually amazing. It's because the kids get to be together. We get to help each other. It's just...
• 21:53
It's honestly been incredible. And there's obviously reservations when you live with someone else because it's like, you just know how it's gonna go.
• 22:00
  Whitney: Yeah. You just
• 22:01
Amy: And I remember being worried about, like, our friendship because I was like, I just... I don't... Like, what if we start to, like, annoy each other? And then, like, you know, you get, like... They just don't wanna, like...
• 22:09
You know, I don't know. I just... You hear horror
• 22:11
Whitney: stories of, like, friends that are, like, this is gonna be the dream. Yes. I mean, obviously, I think that's, like, when you're, like, maybe in, like, your twenties and you still don't know who you are as a person that you're, like, living with someone and you... No one knows who they are to their core. Yeah.
• 22:23
  It can be really risky.
• 22:24
Amy: 100%. And that's why I was, like, really worried about that. But what I love about our friendship, was we're so, like, open in communication. And I remember mentioning that to you so many times. Like, I was worried about that.
• 22:33
Whitney: So I think just, like, we just
• 22:35
Amy: had such open communication, and it's just been honestly, like, zero issues. Literally, it's been amazing. Like, I love it. It's to the point now where I don't really wanna live on my own anymore. I'm like, wait I have to actually move out into my own home?
• 22:48
  That's boring.
• 22:48
Whitney: I know. Like, Lorenzo, cancel the bill. It's been so like just like a little like insight into it. Like she'll make dinner some nights. I'll make dinner some nights.
• 22:58
It's just like we see each other.
• 23:00
Amy: Yeah. We're like the husbands. Yeah. It gives you the it gives you the insight of what it's like to like really have a village because we don't... That's not really a thing nowadays.
• 23:08
Whitney: Oh my gosh. It's like all isolation and have your own home. And so it's just really nice. I feel like my anxiety is lower. Like, I'll be out in the field all day, and you'll be like, hey.
• 23:17
I made dinner. Yeah. And I'm just like, oh, so nice. It's Yeah. It's been magical.
• 23:21
Amy: Yeah. It's honestly been amazing. That is amazing. So the way we met, we used to live in the same neighborhood when I first moved to Tennessee. And I remember me and Kyla, my husband, were going for a walk.
• 23:32
And he was sick. But then he came up to me and he goes, mommy, I think that little girl wants to play with me. And Henley was on the other side of the street. And she said, I don't remember what did she say? I was playing...
• 23:44
  Well, we
• 23:45
Whitney: were playing outside with a big water bottle Yeah. With a big jug because... You know? And she was like, oh, there's... Because there wasn't a lot of kids in the neighborhood at that time.
• 23:53
Amy: Mhmm. I remember telling her.
• 23:55
Whitney: And she wanted... I think she said, like, do you wanna play? Yes. And you're like, he's sick. I was like, okay.
• 23:59
  That girl hates me.
• 24:01
Amy: No. Stop. He was really sick with this nasty cough, and I didn't know what
• 24:08
Whitney: the protocol was. Don't wanna give this girl. The first time you saw him.
• 24:11
Amy: But I felt so bad because Kylo was really excited too. He's a very social kid, so he really wanted to play with her. And I was like, oh, he's really sick right now, but maybe next time, like, we can play. And then we came across each other at the park, in the neighborhood park.
• 24:23
  Whitney: And then
• 24:23
Amy: from there, we just kind of, like, kept running into each other at the park, exchanged numbers, and it just sort
• 24:29
Whitney: of took off from there. And I would say ours got deeper too when I moved. Yes. Yeah. Because then they would come over and hang out for a long period of time.
• 24:37
Because when you live next to each other, it's like,
• 24:39
Lauren: oh, hey. Yeah. Meet at the park. Okay. Bye.
• 24:40
  We're celebrating.
• 24:40
Amy: Exactly. And when you said you were moving, I remember being really kinda upset. Yeah. So I was like, oh, man. I actually really like this girl.
• 24:47
  Whitney: Like, I
• 24:47
Amy: really click with her. I actually feel comfortable with her. Mhmm. And that's kinda difficult for me to, like, click with someone and just feel comfortable with them. Mhmm.
• 24:54
So I was like, that really stinks. She's, like, leaving. But then you were like, no. We're going to, like, still hang out. And I was like, okay.
• 25:01
That's, like, reassuring. Yeah. And then I remember when you moved, I was like, let me just ask her if she needs help with, like, moving. I wanted to just, like, keep the relationship. You know?
• 25:08
It was I really didn't want it to just, like, stop seeing each other because you moved.
• 25:12
Whitney: Did feel special like you said. Like it's like when you know that it's like a deep like Yeah. You just don't wanna let it go.
• 25:18
  Amy: And you
• 25:18
Whitney: have You have to be intentional. Like Uh-huh. Genuinely, I heard this saying and it said that friendships are inconvenient and
• 25:25
Amy: they are. They are, yeah they
• 25:27
Whitney: take work. You have to put in time, have to put in work and you need to be intentional and when you're a mom it's hard to honestly find the spare time to do that so then when you do because you do need support you're like latching onto it. Like you're not going nowhere. You're with your I'll find you. Yes.
• 25:43
  And you
• 25:43
Amy: have to tell the story of, of when you didn't know like what I did for work. Was so suspicious. I'm so excited.
• 25:50
Whitney: I was waiting for it. Was like, so when we saw we saw Lorenzo at the park after.
• 25:54
Amy: Yes. He took Kyle by himself.
• 25:56
Whitney: Y'all were on the walk and then we went to the park and we saw Lorenzo and started talking to him. Mhmm. Like, oh, you know, hi, small talk. What do you guys... What do you do for work?
• 26:05
And he goes, you know, I don't usually like to talk about it, but, you know, she does, like, online stuff. Online was just like, oh, okay. And we just kept talking, finished the conversation. Okay. Bye.
• 26:15
We're walking, and I go, do you think she does OnlyFans? The Blade.
• 26:18
Amy: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Because we get so awkward about telling people, like, what what I do.
• 26:24
Whitney: You know? So awkward the way he did it.
• 26:26
Amy: I know. Like register that. But, honestly, it's a really good not for you stuff. Like, someone was
• 26:32
Whitney: just, yeah. Do online stuff. Would have been like, like, that's Like, I need to define. Yeah. That's Can you use it in a sentence?
• 26:39
  Like, what kind
• 26:39
Amy: of But can I just say he's, like, the worst, like, liar? That's obviously not lying, but, like, he's the worst at, like, hiding things.
• 26:45
Whitney: Well, yeah. I don't usually to talk about it.
• 26:46
Amy: Because we don't usually like to tell people. You're like, why? People just get weird when you tell them you do social media.
• 26:51
Whitney: No. Yeah. And they're like, like, pretty girl.
• 26:54
  Amy: Blue tier. I know.
• 26:55
Whitney: You know, I'm like, I'm Online stuff. Yeah. Like That's hilarious.
• 26:59
Amy: We're gonna have to work on your answer. Maybe online marketing
• 27:04
Whitney: would have been no. But then are you
• 27:06
Lauren: marketing yourself? After that you
• 27:08
Amy: just stop asking questions. Just stop, don't keep it quiet. Shut your mouth.
• 27:12
Whitney: Shut your mouth. Nice. Content creator, isn't that is that not what... No.
• 27:16
Amy: Like, I just didn't wanna... I don't like to tell people something. Like, now I... Yeah. I know.
• 27:20
  But he doesn't, like,
• 27:21
Whitney: he didn't wanna, like, tell. You're like, because then people are thinking I'm doing OnlyFans. You've tried
• 27:26
Amy: to make it less gay. Well, what's funny is ever since then, I just straight up tell people no. I just hate creation.
• 27:32
  Whitney: We can't like... You're like, I know. I'm like, I can't
• 27:34
Amy: be letting people think I'm out here and these sheets doing OnlyFans right now. Okay? I know. But I'm dying. Yeah.
• 27:39
  So It became
• 27:40
Whitney: a a beautiful friendship. I'm so blessed to have both of you guys. Like, it's it's wild the way it all worked out for all of us. Like, the fact that you lived in another country.
• 27:49
Amy: I know. And so, like, we always talk about this. I lived in another country. You lived in an entirely different state. We both decided at the same time ish because you had recently
• 27:58
  Whitney: moved months before. Yeah.
• 28:00
Amy: We both decided at the same time ish to move to the Nashville area Mhmm. In the same neighborhood and happened to be outside at the same time. Mhmm. And if Henley didn't say anything, we we would have both just, like, literally crossed paths. Yeah.
• 28:14
It's just crazy. Like, how It
• 28:16
  Whitney: really is.
• 28:16
  Amy: How it really works.
• 28:17
Whitney: And it just feels all, like, so meant to be.
• 28:19
Amy: Yeah. 100%. But... So we want... For today, we really wanted to get into, like, how we became moms.
• 28:25
So did you always wanna be a mom? What's your story like to becoming a mom? Were you trying to conceive? Was it a... Like, how...
• 28:32
What are our stories around that?
• 28:34
Whitney: I'm curious. Wanted to be a mama. It was my calling for sure. And trying... Well, Henley was a surprise.
• 28:44
We were engaged, but we were like, oh, okay. Hi. Yeah. Surprise. And it was fun.
• 28:51
And it was during the COVID times, there wasn't But much to we kept ourselves occupied. That's so funny. And yeah,
• 29:01
  Amy: it was That's hilarious.
• 29:02
  Whitney: We kept ourselves occupied.
• 29:04
Amy: How? No. Like, could you go into details on what I could use?
• 29:08
Whitney: Tell me more. Yeah. Sure, dad.
• 29:09
  Amy: Did you
• 29:09
  Whitney: guys do word names?
• 29:11
Amy: Dad, now would be the time to, if you could just click off.
• 29:13
Whitney: Click on. Eat right about now. But... And then the second, for our youngest, we we tried, and it was, we tried for, like, the first try and didn't get pregnant. And I was like, oh, that's weird.
• 29:25
And then the second time we tried, I was pregnant. So, very just vanilla type of I love that though. It was... We're... Yeah.
• 29:37
  Yeah. Cut. Stop.
• 29:41
  Amy: Like, can you put
• 29:42
Whitney: that right on the vanilla? Right on the vanilla. You just keep lining me up. Okay. I'm so sorry.
• 29:47
But but, yeah, always wanted to be a mom. Definitely like my calling, and I feel so blessed to be a mom. This is exactly who I wanted to be and... Yeah. What about you, Whitney?
• 29:59
Yeah. No. So I similarly just always knew I wanted to be a mom. I grew up with... This is so embarrassing.
• 30:08
I mean, like, it is not that embarrassing, but Tell us. We wanna hear all the truth. Okay. So as a little girl, I had this baby doll, Lucy, and Lucy went everywhere.
• 30:17
Amy: Shout out to Lucy. Shout out to Lucy.
• 30:19
Whitney: Lucy, where you at? She... My mom still has
• 30:21
  Amy: her. No. She does.
• 30:22
Whitney: My mom will not get rid of her.
• 30:24
  Amy: Oh my goodness.
• 30:25
Whitney: Because where I went, Lucy went. Lucy had a car seat, y'all. Oh my. What? That is so sweet.
• 30:32
My family gifted Lucy. Like, people are gonna be like, is she okay?
• 30:35
  Amy: Oh my goodness.
• 30:36
Whitney: That's crazy. But, like, genuinely, I just always... Like, if there was a kid, I'm like, can I play with the k b? Like, I love kids so much. Aw.
• 30:44
And so I think that also stemmed from, like, I always, like, wanted siblings. And fun fact about me is that me and... I'm one of four. Okay. Me and my closest sibling are 13 apart.
• 30:55
So I grew up essentially an only child. And so I did
• 30:58
Amy: not know that. How did I not know that about you?
• 31:00
Whitney: It's... Because, I mean, I talk about my siblings, and it's like they're all older now. But, yeah, my brother just turned 18, and then my other sister is 16. And then... And my youngest sister is...
• 31:13
How old is she? We're eighteen years apart. Math is not mathing right now. That's so funny. I'm so sorry.
• 31:20
I love you so much but... She loves you. Well, she's... Yeah. There's a lot
• 31:26
  Amy: of her...
• 31:26
  Whitney: There's a lot of ages. 2013. So she's 13? Oh, yeah. She's 12 or 13.
• 31:33
Widdle thing. Yeah. So, anyhum... But I always just wanted to be a mom. Beyond that, though, like, it was never, like, I wanted to be a stay at home mom.
• 31:41
It was just I'm gonna be a mom. Yeah. Like, that was my time of thought. It didn't go beyond that. And so it's really kind of crazy that I am in that role now because I don't think it was ever, like, my goal or intention.
• 31:52
It's just kind of how the cards relate. Yeah. And so when we... Me and my husband were married for four years before we even, like, contemplated having kids because, again, we got married so young that we really had to live. We needed to get our kind of life in order.
• 32:08
We didn't know where we were going to be. And the trying process... And I do account this to becoming a product of watching 16 and Pregnant, like that was our generation's disease.
• 32:20
  Amy: Oh my goodness. Yes.
• 32:21
Whitney: Looked at a boy, you got pregnant. I did. I actually thought you could get pregnant at any point. No. Literally.
• 32:25
And I genuinely think it was because 16 and Pregnant, so many of the girls would be like, yeah. And I thought I got pregnant, when I lost my virginity, I'm like, okay. Don't... Like, a boy, don't look at me. Don't touch me.
• 32:33
Like, stay far away from me. And so I had no idea the whole conception process. So when it came down to us actively trying, it took months basically of just shooting blind, if you will. Yeah. So you didn't even do it on ovulation?
• 32:50
No. I didn't know about ovulation. Oh, my word. You know what? I didn't either.
• 32:54
Mine either. I didn't either. No. I I I don't think anyone does. Like, whenever I talk to another mom, it's not until you're actively trying that you figure out how that process even works.
• 33:05
Mhmm. And then when you dial it down to, like, you only have so many opportunities, it really is kind of nerve wracking that within a year span, you have very limited time frames to conceive and you don't. Yeah. Well, you have, like, your peak, and then you can also get pregnant when you're... Like, right before your peak and a little bit after your peak, maybe one to three days every month.
• 33:29
If you're naturally ovulating on your own and your cycle is
• 33:36
Amy: if it is, on because we assume it is and then sometimes it's not.
• 33:40
Whitney: My sister had issues with ovulation too.
• 33:43
Amy: I think the egg only lasts like what twenty four hours?
• 33:46
Whitney: I think so yeah. Like if it's twenty five to twenty four? Yes. I don't mean I'm far from a
• 33:52
  Amy: health expert.
• 33:54
Whitney: So when it came down to the trying, it was, like, months of just negatives. And I was like, what's going on? Like, I thought, like, again, I thought that my husband just needed to look at me and I was going to get pregnant.
• 34:04
  Amy: Yeah. Yeah.
• 34:05
Whitney: And so then I come to find out the ovulation strips and all of the tracking that goes into it. And I found out that I actually ovulate a week after a normal woman. Okay. Like, little later.
• 34:19
Amy: Like, day twenty one or something? Exactly.
• 34:21
Whitney: Yeah. Was around day twenty one and day twenty two was the day that I was ovulating, which is I don't know if that's normal but that's that's what was happening. Mark then. Yeah. But I we were...
• 34:31
I wasn't even tracking my cycle. Like, I've never tracked my cycle.
• 34:34
  Amy: So
• 34:34
Whitney: It was really crazy cycle and Blake was like, do you think you're good? I up, like, yeah. Never been pregnant before. Like, shout out to the kid. Yeah.
• 34:41
Right? Like, shout out to the flow app. Like, I was, having flow app when I, like, knew I was going to be trying. So I had that, and I was like, why is this not working? Yeah.
• 34:50
Like, why am I not pregnant? And I didn't realize too, like, how you expect to, like, try for a couple months, but it doesn't negate, like, how sad you are when the negative comes in. Oh, yeah. Because then you're like, oh, well, I guess we're gonna try again next month. And it's just like it keeps Yeah.
• 35:05
Pushing back the future you're so desperately wanting. And so when I finally learned about ovulation and all of the fun things that go into being a woman In your twenties. Yeah. Literally. In my twenties I was 26.
• 35:21
So genuinely I'm like what did I learn in health class? I have no idea.
• 35:25
Amy: I remember telling my sister Jessica, and I said to her one day, I can't remember how it came up, but I told her I was like, yeah. You know, it's like you only ovulate one day of the month and you can only get pregnant technically that one day. Like, the egg is only viable for whatever. And she was like, no. It's not.
• 35:41
I was like, yes. It is. Yeah. Actually, I actually just recently learned this. And then she's like, no.
• 35:47
It's not. That's actually crazy, Amy. I'm like, I think you need to utilize Google right now. Is actually Google is free. But that's how a lot of us think.
• 35:57
Like, it's insane when you think of, like, a thirty day cycle.
• 36:00
  Whitney: Mhmm. How
• 36:00
  Amy: sad in one day.
• 36:02
Whitney: How sad though that none of us... We all did not know. Yeah. No. Know.
• 36:06
It's crazy. When I... I'm not kidding. I had so many friends and, like, all of us were going through this process of, like, family planning. It was my friends teaching me Mhmm.
• 36:17
To be honest. Like, was them telling me, Whitney, get these drips. Whitney, download this app. It'll tell you when you're, like, peaking and all of these things. And so the first month that we actively tried with the, ovulation strips, I was able to conceive.
• 36:31
But another thing that happened was I... On... I remember this distinctly on Saint Patrick's Day, of 2020. I was really hoping that we were pregnant, and I went in and I, was getting ready for a Saint Patrick's Day party with my husband. We were about to go with our friends.
• 36:53
Our friend came to come pick us up for the, like, little get together, and he goes, oh my gosh. Is someone bleeding? And there was blood drops all along my floor. And so I didn't know in that moment there I was really sad I was like really heartbroken we had been trying for I think four or five months at that point.
• 37:15
  Amy: And
• 37:21
Whitney: I saw the blood. I ran to the bathroom because I knew it was me. Yeah. And I didn't know if I was miscarrying or if my period just decided to come at a random time. And I was, again, like, this is their first month tracking it.
• 37:34
So I like, it's either, like, my period is just now all of a sudden out of whack because I know I'm not supposed to have my period.
• 37:39
  Amy: Mhmm.
• 37:41
Whitney: Or I'm miscarrying because I was supposed to be, like, finding out if I was pregnant within, like, a week. Yeah. And so something I also didn't know about was implantation bleeding, and that's what it was. Aw. And when I looked up implantation bleeding, a lot of times, I think it's been so long, but I...
• 38:01
It said, like, within, like, two to three days of, like, conception, this was not it. It was about five days. So I was like, I must be, like, early signs of a miscarriage. I don't know. Like, I have no idea.
• 38:15
It ended up being that I was pregnant with my eldest, and so everything was fine. But it was just delayed implantation bleeding that I had. I had no idea about that. Implantation bleeding is, like, heavy bleeding. It depends.
• 38:30
  Yeah. Depends on
• 38:31
Amy: the heavy but it can be a decent amount I think.
• 38:34
Whitney: Yeah. I mean like I had full droplets like a trail of blood following me and I thought that I was on my period and so like I went to the party and I went and I was like telling my friends I was crying. I was like yeah I don't know what's going on I'm like bleeding right now my period's not due for another two weeks like I have no idea what's going on.
• 38:51
  Amy: Mhmm.
• 38:51
Whitney: And again like I the whole trying process I was like so unfamiliar with. I had no idea anything about what was going on. But it all worked out and it's my oldest and everything was great but it's just kind of crazy.
• 39:06
Amy: Was it with your youngest?
• 39:08
Whitney: My gosh. I remember you guys talking about trying and you were like, oh yeah we we just just tried or something, and I was like, For sure.
• 39:19
  Amy: We were
• 39:20
Whitney: in the fire when we were at the firehouse, we went Oh, literally. Kids were playing on the fire rig, and I looked at you, and you were like... I was like, so you, like, wins number two? And you're like, well, we actually just tried.
• 39:30
Amy: Yeah. So funny. No. It's so crazy. The terms of literally right before you got there, you just tried.
• 39:35
Whitney: I know. Right. Like, what are we talking Literally. I'm like, okay. Here we go.
• 39:40
So grandpa and grandma turn out. No. So it was so crazy. I went in, and I... My birth control, I had removed.
• 39:50
And, the next day, was pregnant. That is actually insane. To be here. Yes. He was very much meant to be here.
• 39:59
We cannot picture our world without that little dude.
• 40:00
Amy: He is, like, seriously the best thing.
• 40:02
Whitney: So squishy. So fun. Honestly.
• 40:05
Amy: He's so squishy and cute, and he's just, like... I just don't even know to explain it.
• 40:08
Whitney: My girl's alone. Like, he's crazy, but in the same... Like, a Sour Patch kid is, like, genuinely mine.
• 40:15
  Amy: Dude, it's
• 40:15
Whitney: the second kid. They're gonna say
• 40:17
Amy: They've got so much personality. Right?
• 40:19
Whitney: So much personality. I remember just saying, just wait.
• 40:22
  Amy: I know.
• 40:22
Whitney: I'm looking hard for you. So fun. It's so fun. And you're gonna have a different dynamic because we both have two boys, and you... Or I have two boys, and you
• 40:29
Amy: have two girls. And you're gonna
• 40:30
Whitney: have one of each, so it's gonna be so... It's so cool.
• 40:33
Amy: You'll... Excuse me. But I feel
• 40:35
  Whitney: like we
• 40:35
Amy: need to do a whole episode on that. It's, like, having your second, what that's like, how to transition that, the whole gender thing. Like, did you guys want a boy or a girl? Yeah. Yeah.
• 40:45
Like, I... We should definitely do a whole episode.
• 40:47
Whitney: I love this. I have so many thoughts on the transition from one to two versus zero
• 40:53
  Amy: to one. Oh, yeah.
• 40:54
Whitney: Me Yeah. Two. Yeah yeah thoughts. We're no. Are being literally I'm like whoever said zero to one was harder lied.
• 41:04
Seriously the biggest liar ever. I remember holding my second and being like how does everybody do this? Yeah. Yeah. With a migraine.
• 41:12
Anyways, that's a that's a whole episode we should talk about.
• 41:15
  Amy: Yeah. For sure.
• 41:16
Whitney: Unreal. But, yeah, that was how my youngest was. I remember going to my OB, and she was, like, looking at the chart, and she goes, Whitney, didn't I just see you? And I go
• 41:26
  Amy: That's so funny. And
• 41:27
Whitney: and she goes, got right on out. You're really fertile.
• 41:30
Amy: We go That's hilarious. Yes. I love that for you because your first time, you kinda struggled a little bit more.
• 41:35
Whitney: Yes. It was a roller coaster attraction for sure. You thought you had more time, and then I thought I had way more time. Because you do. Like, once you, like, go in from, like, knowing, okay.
• 41:44
You know, sometimes it's gonna happen. Sometimes it's not. It's, like, such a, like, shot in the dark and then praying for the best outcome. And so when I remember I took the test for my youngest, and it wasn't even that I was planning to take a pregnancy test. I just ordered...
• 42:02
Literally ordered the ovulation strips again knowing, like, okay. I know what I'm doing this time. Yeah. And they come with a pregnancy test and an ovulation test.
• 42:09
  Amy: And I was
• 42:09
Whitney: like, whatever. We'll just try. Like, what... See what's happening. I left it all day.
• 42:14
I didn't even check it until, like, 09:00 at night. What? Yeah. And Derek was gone. Derek was gone both times that I took a pregnancy test.
• 42:23
And so then I remember when he came home and I took the pregnancy test for the second one because we had agreed. I was like, I really wanna do it together. And then I took that one completely expecting it to be, like, negative. Yeah. Because you had just gotten my...
• 42:38
Yeah. I'd just gotten it removed. And... No. And so then I vaped it in the video.
• 42:45
  Amy: Wild. I
• 42:45
Whitney: know. Not knowing. Stop. Yeah. I took a pregnancy test, and I was like, okay.
• 42:49
Like, let's go take a pregnancy test. Stop. And the whole time and then the guilt was eating me alive and I looked at him and was like, actually, I took one already. I'm sorry. Already knew.
• 42:57
  I was like, you did?
• 42:58
Amy: And I go, yeah. I didn't know Yeah. Literally.
• 43:00
Whitney: That's so funny. That is hilarious. Yeah. He is a trooper about it because I felt so bad. I was like, I'm so sorry.
• 43:06
That's so funny. What about, what about you, Amy?
• 43:09
Amy: So for me, I always wanted to be a mom. And I actually have this, like, I have this story that I've I've always think of. And this is such a core memory in my brain. I actually don't think I've ever told you this, But this is such a core memory in my brain. I don't know why it's, like, burned in there.
• 43:24
I'll remember it forever. But I think I must have been... I don't remember my exact age, but I must have been maybe 10, 11, something around there. And I was at my aunt's cottage, and
• 43:33
Whitney: she asked me, what do
• 43:34
Amy: you wanna be when you grow up? And I said, a stay at home mom. Aw. And I don't know why that's burned into my brain, but I'll just always remember that because it's such a true... Like, it's just...
• 43:44
It's my core. I'm literally a 10 year old. Like, what 10 year old says that?
• 43:47
Whitney: Best mama. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you.
• 43:49
Amy: But what 10 year old says that? I remember saying, yeah. I wanna be a stay at home mom. And she said, you'll have to marry a rich man to be able to stay home. And fast forward now, I am the rich man.
• 43:59
Oh. That's always burning my brain that she said that you have to find a rich man in order to do that. And
• 44:03
  Whitney: I'm like,
• 44:04
Amy: I actually made it happen for myself. But, yeah, I've always wanted to be a mom. Mhmm. Always. And then, yeah, I...
• 44:10
We got... So I've been with my husband since I was 17.
• 44:13
Whitney: Babies. You guys both Yeah. Was babies.
• 44:15
Amy: Yeah. I was 17. We got married when I was... I actually don't even remember. Did I get married when I was 25?
• 44:20
Whitney: I don't remember. Really? Yeah. Because you guys were together for a long time. Yes.
• 44:24
Yeah. Was 17. You got married in 2020. Yes. Same as me.
• 44:27
  So whatever that
• 44:28
Amy: is, whatever the math is on that. But then, we knew we want... Like, we always knew we wanted kids. And so we started trying, I think, within a year of us getting married. And it was sort of picture perfect at first because I got pregnant my second month of trying.
• 44:45
I remember the first month, I thought I would get pregnant right away, and I didn't. And I was like, maybe I should actually use ovulation tests. Mhmm. So then I did, and I got pregnant my second month of trying. And I remember just being, like, on cloud nine just so excited.
• 44:58
And then about... I don't remember how long it was, but it was really early. I think it was, like, maybe a week or two after that. You know when you get your HCG tested? Mhmm.
• 45:09
My heart's, like, kinda racing a little bit as I Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I actually have never... I've told you, but I've never told you in detail, so this is gonna be interesting.
• 45:15
But you know when you get your HCG tested to see if it's rising? Mhmm. So I had my HCG tested, and I'm... By the way, I'm like a total noob to this. Like, imagine, like Yeah.
• 45:26
In my mind time. First time.
• 45:28
  Whitney: You're like Total noob.
• 45:29
Amy: Yeah. I'm like, this is all magical. I'm getting my blood work. Everything's gonna be perfect. Yeah.
• 45:34
And it... My blood work was fine at first, and then you get that repeated after forty eight hours HCG test. And then I got a call from my doctor, and she was like, so your h c d... HCG did not rise. And I was like, what do mean?
• 45:46
  Sorry. I'm gonna get emotional.
• 45:47
  Whitney: It's okay.
• 45:48
Amy: But I was like, what do you mean? Like, what does that mean? Sorry. I'm gonna try to get through this.
• 45:53
  Whitney: No. It's
• 45:53
Amy: okay. I actually don't tell this story in detail very often late. But, anyways, fun fact, I actually never told my family or anything but they know now because I obviously don't want them to find out publicly bug. She said, your HDD didn't rise and I remember being like, what does that mean? There's no way that...
• 46:15
Like, I remember still at that time thinking it must still be fine. Maybe maybe there's a reasoning for it or maybe it's still fine to remember googling like crazy. And I basically... It was like, no. It has to rise.
• 46:27
If it doesn't rise, it's something bad. So I kinda knew it was downhill after that. And then I had an ultrasound, and they found out that the sac was actually empty. There was never really ever anything that actually developed. Mhmm.
• 46:41
Didn't actually think I was gonna cry. I didn't think I was gonna cry during this one. Yeah. This part? But, I think was And it brings you and it brings
• 46:49
Whitney: you back to the feeling too.
• 46:52
Amy: I think so. Yeah. Yeah. I've actually never told the story in detailed detail even to my family members. I've never told it in detail.
• 46:59
But, the sack was basically empty, so it was something called, like, a blight... A blighted ovum, I think is what they call it. So it had never actually developed, like, fully properly. So I... As hard as that was, I was able to sort of reason with that because I was like, you know what?
• 47:17
Like, it happens. Like, miscarriages happen. Mhmm. And it was... It's your first time.
• 47:22
Like, it's never gonna happen again. Like, it's not gonna happen again. Right. So we'll just, like, kinda pretend this didn't happen and go move forward, it's
• 47:30
  Whitney: not gonna happen again.
• 47:31
Amy: Yeah. And so I remember, and this
• 47:34
Whitney: is kind of silly, but
• 47:35
Amy: I remember I didn't tell my family because I... This is silly, but I just wanted that, like, picture perfect, we're pregnant, like, announcement to my family. And if I had told them I just had a miscarriage, they would have known that we were trying. I wanted it to be a surprise, you know? So I never told anyone.
• 47:50
And really looking back, that just left me in isolation. Mhmm. Yeah. But at the time, it had actually, it made sense in my brain because I just wanted it to, like, look picture perfect and be picture perfect. I've never shared this publicly, but this is a part of, like, pulling the curtain back that I was telling you guys before.
• 48:06
Because I'm like, I just want... Like, I just... I wanna just be real. Like, I... I'm so tired of, like, everyone acting like motherhood and everything is And and like I said, I desperately wanted it to be picture perfect.
• 48:16
Yeah. And even to my family. Yeah. And they know now, obviously. And when I did tell them, they were like, why didn't you tell us?
• 48:22
Yeah. Like, they were devastated at the fact that I was so isolated. Yeah.
• 48:27
Whitney: And that's the thing is like as... Yeah. You just isolate yourself in today's day and age, you know? So having that So then Now you know that you can lean on your family.
• 48:36
Amy: But... Yeah. And that's why this time around with this pregnancy, I told you guys when I was, like, what, four weeks pregnant?
• 48:41
Whitney: Yeah. When I found out.
• 48:43
Amy: Because I was like, if if something does happen, it is what it is.
• 48:47
  Whitney: And I
• 48:47
Amy: have my girls to lean on. Only reason I told my family a little later was because they're obviously in Canada, and I really wanted to tell them in person, and they were going to fly. Yes. Yeah. They came to visit literally, like, a month and a half after...
• 48:59
Or, like, a month after I found out. So I was like, I have to just wait that month. I know. Which is probably so hard. Yeah.
• 49:05
Like But if they were... Like, I... You know, I basically... I announced way earlier and just told everyone way earlier. But, anyways, so after that, I just remember googling chances of having two miscarriage...
• 49:17
Having a miscarriage and then having another I I remember googling that, and it said one to two percent. And I was like, whew. Not gonna happen. Mhmm. Like, that's so rare.
• 49:25
So then we tried again. I didn't even get my period back. I just, ovulated two weeks after my miscarriage. Mhmm. I asked my doctor Oh, wow.
• 49:33
Yeah. I asked my doctor, could we start trying right away after, or do I have to wait to get my period and just kinda reset? She said, no. You can start trying right away if you if you ovulate. So I remember testing my ovulation, and I ovulated two weeks after my miscarriage.
• 49:49
By the way, I can... I had, like, a natural miscarriage, which was very... I was blessed for that as well. It sort of just cleared out naturally, which... Yeah.
• 49:57
About maybe a few days after my ultrasound when it... When I found that out, it cleared out actually, which I was feel... Which I was very blessed about. But, yeah. So I got pregnant two weeks after my miscarriage without a period, and I remember just feeling, like, so, so blessed because I didn't need to go through the, like...
• 50:14
With the first time, I mean, it wasn't long, but, like, I had to wait a month and then the second month. So I was like, I wonder how long it's gonna take this time. But Yeah. I didn't have to wait. I got pregnant right away, and I just remember thinking, this was so meant to be.
• 50:26
Like, everything's meant to be, and this is perfect. It's, like, the chances of it happening. And I always tell... Like, I I think I told you this. I wasn't even that nervous for the second one.
• 50:34
Yeah. I I just had had a miscarriage. Yeah. So put yourself in this mind frame. You're like one to two percent.
• 50:39
Whitney: Yeah. One to two percent. Yeah.
• 50:40
Amy: I had just had a miscarriage. You you would think I would be a wreck. Right? I actually wasn't nervous. I was so confident.
• 50:46
Because if you look at that... Those statistics, I was like, there's no way it's gonna happen again. Like, it's just not gonna happen again. So I was so overly confident. And then and then, yeah, I just remember going through, you know, the first two weeks you wait for your ultrasound.
• 51:02
The... My HTG was rising perfectly. So I remember that gave me so much peace. Yeah. Then I went for my first ultrasound, and you would think I'd be so nervous for my first ultrasound Yeah.
• 51:12
After just having the miscarriage. But I was so excited. I wasn't even nervous. Again, overly confident. I go in there, and at the time, this was, COVID times.
• 51:21
So they didn't allow my husband to come into the ultrasound, so I just went in by myself. But I'm so excited. I'm laying there. She's putting the the thing on, the the... It was a transvaginal one.
• 51:35
Yeah. Yeah. And and I just thought she was really quiet. And I was like, okay. You know, maybe they can't say much because I do remember, like, researching ahead of time that they couldn't say much.
• 51:46
I don't know if that's the same everywhere but they're they're like that in Canada and and then she said to me, I'm going to need you to wait because I have to ask the doctor if I'm allowed to let you leave or if you have to go to the emergency room. Oh. And I was like, well, okay. I already know what that means. Oh.
• 52:07
Yeah. So there's just nothing good that comes with that.
• 52:11
Whitney: Yeah. It's like you're alone.
• 52:13
Amy: Yeah. I agree. Yeah. And I was alone as well. I think it's like some sort of law law in Canada that they can't say much or whatever.
• 52:21
Those are just like, can you go in the waiting room and just wait? Because I've asked the doctor if you need to go to the emergency room. So I'm like, okay. It's kinda obvious. Yeah.
• 52:29
Like, what what it is? And she ended up coming back and just saying the doctor said you can leave. And I was like, okay.
• 52:37
  Whitney: That's it?
• 52:38
Amy: That's it. Yeah. And then I just remember getting in the car and looking at my husband. And I just remember saying to him, it's happening again. Yeah.
• 52:49
And he was like, what do you mean? Like, how do you know? And I said she... You know, I just told him what I just said, and he's like, well, you never know. Like, maybe that's what...
• 52:57
Know, we're just trying to hold you.
• 52:58
Whitney: Bless him. He was, like, being positive. Yeah.
• 53:01
Amy: I was like, no. It was happening again. Yeah. But anyways, so he was trying to be positive. Anyways, I had to wait for a call from my doctor.
• 53:09
You had to wait for a call. Like, yeah. Yeah. We got... Yeah.
• 53:12
  He's not okay.
• 53:13
Whitney: To see... That's why she had to ask the doctor. I guess they had to see
• 53:16
Amy: what the severity was, maybe how far along I was.
• 53:18
Whitney: I don't... Blah blah blah. Don't know. Eight weeks at that time?
• 53:21
Amy: No. I was... So for my blighted ovum, I was exactly five weeks.
• 53:25
  Whitney: Okay.
• 53:26
Amy: Five weeks, zero days. For this miscarriage, I was six weeks and six days.
• 53:31
Whitney: Oh, so almost seven weeks.
• 53:32
Amy: Yeah. Six weeks and six days. And then, yeah, had to wait for a call from my doctor. I got a call from my doctor, and that's when she said that there there basically wasn't a heartbeat, but the heart had developed. So this time, it was just, it hit me really hard this time because it wasn't an empty set.
• 53:48
Yeah. That there actually was a baby and that there was a heart. There just wasn't a heartbeat. Like, it stopped at some point, I guess. And, and then she just basically said to me, you can wait.
• 54:00
Like, I just remember thinking, what are the odds? This happened to me again. Yeah. And the fear, like, nobody talks about the fear of that as well. Like, k.
• 54:11
The devastation of losing a baby, one thing. Yeah. And then just imagine the fear you start having of, like, am I ever gonna be able to have kids? Because he... Like, I told you guys how badly I really wanted to be a mom.
• 54:22
It's, like, the only thing I wanted. Like, I would have given everything up. Yeah. I would have literally given up everything just for that. So the fear of, like, not knowing, like, what's going on with my body was really scary.
• 54:37
But, anyways, little old me wanted, like, the perfect little story, and, you know, I just didn't... It just wasn't like that. But... So, she told me I could wait to see if I pass it naturally. And if I don't, then I would have to
• 54:52
  Whitney: Do the d n c?
• 54:53
Amy: No. Do the d n c or I could take the pill Oh. To force it kind of thing. So I had to wait... I remember waiting a week and I just remember thinking, god, please, let me just pass this naturally.
• 55:02
You know? Just let it happen naturally. But then it didn't. So I had to... She...
• 55:08
Remember she told me you can't wait too long because if you wait too long, it could go septic or get an infection.
• 55:12
Whitney: Yeah. Like, blood, like hem... Can you hemorrhage? Because I I had a hairdresser that that happened. She almost...
• 55:18
  Yeah. Was, like, dangerous. Yeah.
• 55:19
Amy: It's that. And also, like, you can get, like, an infection. Yeah. So then I took the pill, and, you have to basically go to an abortion clinic to get the pill, which I absolutely hated. Yeah.
• 55:34
Like, at that time, I'm... Like, I lost my baby and I have to, like, walk into an abortion clinic.
• 55:39
  Whitney: Yeah.
• 55:39
Amy: Like, can my doctor not just prescribe me this?
• 55:41
  Lauren: Yeah.
• 55:41
Amy: Yeah. And it was Yeah. Worst experience in the world. Yeah. The worst experience in the world because I'm walking in there and the nurses are just, like, in my opinion, so disrespectful at the way that they referred to my situation.
• 55:57
  Whitney: Mhmm.
• 55:57
Amy: They just kept referring referring to it as an abortion. That was so disrespectful. That is. I guess from their point of view, it's, like, medically what it is. Yeah.
• 56:08
Right? But it's, like, it's actually medically This
• 56:11
Whitney: is not a choice. I don't wanna be here.
• 56:13
Amy: Remember feeling so... And it's... I'm one of those people
• 56:16
  Whitney: Did you feel judged?
• 56:17
Amy: No. I didn't feel judged. I just felt disrespected.
• 56:20
Whitney: Yeah. And I'm one of
• 56:20
Amy: those people I'm kinda hard to offend, honestly. I don't really take too many things too serious.
• 56:25
  Whitney: Mhmm.
• 56:25
Amy: But I felt... I felt so disrespected. Thank you. Please stop calling me that.
• 56:29
  Whitney: Because that's
• 56:30
  Amy: not what it is.
• 56:31
  Whitney: It's, like, insensitive.
• 56:32
Amy: It's so insensitive. I get that, like, by medical terms, that's probably what it is. But the... Miscarriage is also a medical term.
• 56:37
  Whitney: Yeah.
• 56:38
Amy: So maybe we could just use that word. I just felt so disrespected, but I just felt, like, filthy as well. No. Because I'm there, and it's like you're referring it to something it's not.
• 56:46
  Whitney: Yeah.
• 56:47
Amy: You know? And it took away from, like, what? Anyways. But It just added to. Yeah.
• 56:53
And it just was, like, a terrible experience going there. I'm like, can you really seriously not prescribe me this? And I can't just go pay... It's just... I don't
• 57:00
Whitney: Yeah. Like, do it at home. Like, why couldn't they give you... Do have to take the... You had to take it in the office?
• 57:05
Amy: No. I took... Had to... I took it at home. Thank goodness.
• 57:07
Okay. Which was a whole other. I've actually never told anybody this story. I think I might have told my sister this story.
• 57:14
  Whitney: Mhmm.
• 57:14
Amy: But, I... So I took it at home, and I remember, like, just mustering up the courage to take it because I had heard that it was not easy to do. Mhmm. And I just mustered up the courage one day. And I I think it was, like, a day after.
• 57:27
I didn't wait too long. And then, I took it, and it was, like, the worst experience of my life. Yeah. Like, the worst. I was vomiting profusely, and you get the most intense contractions while you're vomiting pure...
• 57:45
Profusely. And I just remember feeling, like, violently, like, ill. Quick break here to say that we did have some technical difficulties with the mic, but I thought that it was really important to continue telling my story. So you will notice a little bit of an audio difference that we don't anticipate happening in the future. Thank you guys so much for your support and patience.
• 58:03
Yeah. And it just... It was extremely painful, but at some point, I did end up passing it naturally. How'd you get through that? Where...
• 58:11
Yeah. Am. And what the reason be was. So I remember being petrified thinking, will I be able to... Like, like, is this gonna just keep happening?
• 58:19
What's the problem? And I remember my doctor saying, well, in order for us to run tests and all these things Oh. You need to have a third miscarriage. And I was like, not happening. Uh-oh.
• 58:30
I'm taking this under my audience. Mhmm. So I ended up finding this book. And I I cannot... Or for the language of the name of it.
• 58:40
I told myself to try to remember it. But we can help put it in. Yes. Let's cap it up here. I'll remember it.
• 58:45
But it's by a doctor Jordan. I will never forget her, and I'll never forget her name because she is the reason why I have Kyle Lojave. She's literally... Yeah. She's the reason why I'm a mom.
• 58:56
She wrote this book, and I read the entire book. Okay? And I'm not really book humble reader. Okay? But I read the entire book in like a day or two.
• 59:06
I I became obsessed with finding the reason of why this happened because I wasn't gonna let it. I wasn't gonna wait to have a third. I wasn't gonna let it slide. I wasn't gonna wait for the doctors, and I was gonna find out what's going on with my body. Mhmm.
• 59:20
So I read this whole book, and it was, like, the 12 different reasons of why we would have miscarriages. I'm going through and going through. I'm able to knock off a couple off the list that I know are not an issue for me, and then I'm able to just kinda narrow it down. And then I look at the back of the book, and I see she's located located in Burlington, Ontario, which I at the time had lived, what, twenty minutes away from Burlington? Oh.
• 59:44
Yeah. And I was like, this is in... Oh my god. I hear you. Yeah.
• 59:48
I hear you. Like, I was meant to literally find her. Yeah. So I called up her clinic, booked an appointment with her. Yeah.
• 59:56
I had... I did have to pay out of pocket in in Canada for those sort of things, have to pay out of pocket. Yeah. You wanna do your own health care for a naturopath. She's a naturopath, by the way.
• 1:00:04
Yeah. I booked an appointment with her. We did a bunch of blood work, like a huge... A ton of blood work. That's where we started.
• 1:00:11
And we're like, if we don't find anything there, we'll go and do other things, ultrasounds and all these other things. But let's start the blood work. And when we got my results, I basically had... I was vitamin d deficient, which panel, handed on number one, two, aren't we all? Stuff.
• 1:00:30
But, yeah, I was vitamin d deficient, which I didn't know this. But when you're deficient of vitamin d, and don't quote me and I'm not a medical doctor, I also wanna say this is not medical advice, but Right. There's some... There's like... I don't wanna misspeak, but it's something like for for every sort of blank percent...
• 1:00:46
Like, percentage that you're deficient of vitamin d increases your miscarriage rate by one percent each or something like that. Wow. Yeah. And I was predeficient. So that's not good.
• 1:00:55
Yeah. But a little deeper than that, my thyroid was off. My TSH was, I think, a 4.7. No. It was a 4.5 or a 4.7.
• 1:01:04
I don't remember. But it was flagged as normal on my blood work because they consider that normal, but it's really not normal for fertility. You really don't wanna be higher than a 2.5 because it increases your chances for miscarriage. There's been multiple studies done that show if your TSH is over a 4.5, the chance... And that was me...
• 1:01:23
When you're pregnant, your TSH naturally goes up. So the chances are when I was pregnant those times, and it was probably in a five, maybe even a six. Wow. Wow. Yeah.
• 1:01:32
So we knew that that was highly likely. And I remember the doctor saying to me, there's no way for us to ever know. Mhmm. But highly likely, this is probably why you had your miscarriage. Wow.
• 1:01:42
So I got on my thyroid medication. I had paused, tried to conceive at that point. She told me to just wait. Let's get a result. Let's get on the medication.
• 1:01:50
And then you can start back trying in, I think, June.
• 1:01:53
Lauren: Which how many months of you being on the...
• 1:01:55
Amy: I had the miscarriage in April. Okay. And then in May is when I found her. I did the test. And then she told me to wait until June because you wanted...
• 1:02:06
She wanted me to wait at least a month to be on the medication. Okay. And at least two months between my last miscarriage. So I'm waiting for my habitab cycle. Oh, so she
• 1:02:14
Whitney: didn't tell you to do it right after like
• 1:02:15
Lauren: the other doctor? Well, so
• 1:02:17
Amy: you can't... Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Was saying like because you had two, she was like, you
• 1:02:21
Lauren: should probably just wait and add her to the body. Yes. So... Oh, yeah. And you took the...
• 1:02:26
That part. I had to do this very hard. Yeah.
• 1:02:28
Amy: Yeah. So I ended up getting on thyroid medication, and I got my TSH down a little bit, I think, to at that point, like a a three, and it was on its way down to, a two. I can't remember details, but regardless, we started trying in June. And then didn't conceive. So first month didn't conceive.
• 1:02:47
Second month didn't conceive, and then I probably thinking, oh, no. Because with my miscarriages, I conceived either right away Yeah. Yeah. Or the second month. And then we tried the third time in August, and I got pregnant.
• 1:02:58
So I remember thinking, sweet baby. Yes. Thank goodness. But then... Yeah.
• 1:03:04
And and I had the most... I was very... Like, I wasn't overly confident at this point.
• 1:03:10
Whitney: So this time around time, we were like, okay.
• 1:03:12
Amy: I was a nervous wreck. Yeah. Like, nervous wreck. I didn't... Like, I wasn't nervous about anything that I did.
• 1:03:19
Going to that ultrasound was very traumatizing. I picked a different place this time. Yeah. Yeah. Because I was yeah.
• 1:03:26
I I looked up... Because I know the general rule in Canada, I don't know if it's the same in The US, was that like, they can't give information out of ultrasound. But there were some places that were a little bit like, end the rules a little bit. Yeah. Pretty terrible.
• 1:03:39
Yeah. It's horrible. So then, I found a different place. And this place I had read online, like, on Reddit, I think I looked up, and they were saying, like, oh, they're more, like, no relax, then they will tell you certain things. So I went there, and I remember when I saw that heartbeat.
• 1:03:53
I didn't even cry. I didn't even cry. It was just pure like bliss and magic. It's all I couldn't explain very well. Pure bliss magic.
• 1:04:05
Almost like I had just come to peace or something. Like, I don't know how it's been. I wasn't like in tears like, you know, you think you'd be like so ecstatic. It was like I had just come to peace in that moment. And what I had waited for had finally just happened and I was at such...
• 1:04:19
I don't know. It was like this serene magical feeling. That's the only way I can describe it. And again, my husband couldn't be there because they were still kinda strict with the Yeah. The stuff.
• 1:04:28
But the rules. But anyways, yeah. It would... I had the most easy pregnancy and that's my little high glow to this day. We buddy meant to be here.
• 1:04:38
Lauren: Yeah. Fast that you took it into your own hands. Yeah. Figured out that your thyroid Yeah. Was the issue.
• 1:04:44
Yeah. I had to. Which is wild because you spoke about always being tired growing up and always having symptoms. Always having issues with my weight.
• 1:04:52
Amy: Yeah. And then... Always wondering why why is it that when I'm, like, in a calorie deficit, I'm working out hard Yeah. And I can barely lose a pound. Yeah.
• 1:05:01
Like, I always struggled with my weight growing up. Always. And I was never the girl that you just lose weight. It took me like, I had to put in 50,000 more... More effort than everyone else to lose weight.
• 1:05:12
Yeah. And that made sense because all of those are thyroid symptoms. And you just had no idea until Sign it, please. Uh-huh. Yeah.
• 1:05:19
  Yeah. It's so wild.
• 1:05:20
Lauren: And then sweet baby Kyle, yeah, here.
• 1:05:22
Amy: He's like, yay. Fast forward, he's four years old now. And, yeah. So I will never... But then now is for my second.
• 1:05:28
Mhmm. That's... I don't wanna ramble on too much on this. No. I feel like I've been jogging for...
• 1:05:33
Thankfully, you know, I... Everything has gone so easy and good with this pregnancy. I'm very thankful for that. But the trying part was a little bit like... It could have been worse, honestly.
• 1:05:43
So I don't wanna sound ungrateful because it really could have been worse. But it took us six months to go see with her, which I was worried about because I was like, well, I conceived the second month for the first time, the second time right away without a period, and then the third time with Kylo within three months. Right. Why is it taking me six months this time? Like, I was getting worried.
• 1:06:04
And I remember being worried about that, but my thyroid at the time, long story short, I don't wanna ramble about this, but when I moved from Canada to here, I had to switch my thyroid medication Mhmm. And I had to find my right dose. Come... And with that comes with, you know, my thyroid wasn't in an optimal range. It was actually this time too low.
• 1:06:22
I had taken too much. Yeah. It's not that it's too low.
• 1:06:25
Lauren: It's not good too much. It's a compound. So there's two different thyroid medicines that you can take. There's like a compound of high different in each pharmacy. So you were having an issue adjusting.
• 1:06:36
Amy: Yeah. Because I'm like, I'm at a different pharmacist now. So I think I just need to get off the compounded and stick to Armour because it's at least like a more stable dose. But so I did that. It took me a while to get out of my thyroid being suppressed of taking too much medication.
• 1:06:49
And your body really won't get pregnant if your thyroid is not in an... Is is suppressed. It just won't because it's in fight or flight mode and it just won't.
• 1:06:57
Lauren: So daddy doesn't have their... You taught me that. The... Yeah. The he doesn't have
• 1:07:00
Amy: their own thyroid burden until... Until... They start developing it at 10, but they really don't have it fully built until eighteen to twenty weeks. Yes. So they rely on yours.
• 1:07:08
Yeah. So if you're struggling with a thyroid, like, you're not going to be able to provide the baby with that. So that's when miscarriages will happen, and that's basically what happened. But... Yeah.
• 1:07:18
So I ended up after, like, three months, my thyroid finally... My TSH was another place. It was, like, 2.7 or something, which isn't optimal. Optimal is like one, but it was still pretty good. And so we tried...
• 1:07:30
Excuse me. And so we tried... I feel like those first three months were almost like a null and void because my TSH was so suppressed. After that third month, knew it was good. We continued trying and I got cracking with her on my sixth month.
• 1:07:43
So... Yeah. It wasn't totally totally easy to try with her, but my thyroid was still off. Unfortunately, it just kinda landed the timing of that.
• 1:07:50
Lauren: But... Well, you knew now that that's what you had to look at was your thyroid. You had the knowledge. Yeah. And I remember you coming to me and you were like, yeah, I'm taking...
• 1:07:59
I have to switch my dose to see what my blood test said. And it's a technically, once you got on your meds, it was like two months of trying. Right?
• 1:08:06
Amy: Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Well, I were... I...
• 1:08:08
Wait. It was three. I was on my meds for a while, but it's just like it kept taking so long for it to to adjust it because, like, we would change the dose and it still wouldn't work. And then we're like, let's just stop compound and let's just do Armour. So it ended up taking a year.
• 1:08:23
But we weren't trying for that whole year. Right? We weren't trying. We only started trying at the end of that year. So are you...
• 1:08:28
  Do you
• 1:08:29
Lauren: still take the thyroid medicine? Yes. Okay.
• 1:08:31
  Amy: Mhmm.
• 1:08:31
Lauren: Is there like... Do you have to switch to Armour or are you on compound?
• 1:08:34
Amy: I'm still on Armour. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. With During your pregnancy.
• 1:08:37
Yeah. That's not slightly controversial. I mean, lot of doctors recommend you go on Levo, but that's a whole other
• 1:08:43
Lauren: Yeah. A whole another A whole other episode. Of her sexual act and and you're talking over twenty minutes. But so wild because how many other moms could be struggling with the same thing and not looking at their thyroid? Yeah.
• 1:08:56
So... Oh, yeah. I want to
• 1:08:57
Amy: be like... I wish I just... I wish someone had just said to me, hey. Before you wanna conceive, get your thyroid panel done, and don't listen to them if they tell you that it's normal when it's above a 2.5. Because they love to say it's normal when it's a three or a four, and it's just not.
• 1:09:13
It's not optimal. Yeah. You're gonna have symptoms most likely when it's above a 2.5. So if you're trying to conceive, it should really be this, again, this is not medical advice. Ask, you know, do your own re...
• 1:09:23
I was gonna say ask your doctor, but I'm doing a lot of research. Don't But even it should really be between a point five to max of two. Yeah. Point five ish, but, yeah, really should not be above that. Because when you get pregnant, it goes up.
• 1:09:40
Whitney: So even when it's at
• 1:09:41
Amy: a 2.5, now you have no buffer. Because it's probably gonna go up to a 3.5, which is really not gonna do. So it's optimal when you're at a one because then when you get pregnant, it'll probably go up to like a two, which is still dead. You know what I mean? You get out of a buffer.
• 1:09:53
Lauren: Well, during that time of tranquility, you realized and you found out that you have Hashimoto's.
• 1:09:57
Amy: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Forgot about that. She was like...
• 1:09:59
Forgot about about the Laura. They were sure I have Hashimoto's. Yes. Yeah. Then I'll go like, well, that would probably make sense.
• 1:10:06
That waiver has it. Yeah. That would make sense. Uh-huh. Yeah.
• 1:10:09
Found that out, I think about like three months in... And now, I think your second. Yeah. Thyroid.
• 1:10:14
Lauren: Yeah. Try. Yeah. So just constantly learning about your body.
• 1:10:17
Amy: Oh my, you're thyroid. And all of my autoimmune stuff came back perfectly fine, and my antibodies for one of them for the thyroid came back perfectly fine. So she's like, you don't have an autoimmune problem. I remember her saying that to me. But I never got my thyroglobin tested with her, my thyroglobin antibodies.
• 1:10:30
Have you gone and tested? That's the one that I got tested when I was trying with this baby now.
• 1:10:35
Whitney: So looking back, Amy, do you think that you would have changed that? Would you have changed not telling your family?
• 1:10:40
Amy: It's hard to say because going back, yes. Because so I wouldn't be isolated. And at the same time, I remember being so desperate to have that... Can't see. I would have made a different decision out of that.
• 1:10:49
I remember, like, in that moment being so desperate to have that, I'm pregnant. Like, surprise notes made to my family, and that was just all I wanted. Yeah. That was like what I wanted. Was my mind was set on that.
• 1:11:01
I didn't care about anything else. And... Yeah. So that's hard to say. But 1000%, like, looking back, I should not have spent all that time being so isolated.
• 1:11:09
Yeah. You know? And so it it just... Yeah. It feels good to sort of like pull the curtain back.
• 1:11:14
And I think on my platform a lot, I talk about, like, TikTok and Instagram, I talk about hypothyroidism a lot. And a lot of people ask me, how did you find out? I've never been able to really fully say how I found out. I've always just kinda kept it simple and said, oh, you know what? I was trying to conceive Kylo, or when I was pregnant with Kylo.
• 1:11:30
But it just feels good to pull that curtain back and really be vulnerable because I want other women to just like be able to relate to it. And also, I wanna spread awareness to like check your thyroid. Yeah. If you're having like reoccurring miscarriage miscarriage problem, check your thyroid. If you're...
• 1:11:46
If you want to conceive and you've never even tried yet, you want to,
• 1:11:48
Lauren: check your thyroid. Save yourself the... I should
• 1:11:50
Amy: say for something. Trouble, I just... I actually can't even believe that my doctor never... Like, you know, it's just not... It's just that blanket health care.
• 1:11:58
It's not blanket health care. So that's why I'm like, this is why you'll hear me say a lot. It it changed me forever. This is why I I nowadays, I just do my own research. I have a hard time trusting doctors.
• 1:12:08
Lauren: And really, why could they say it's not normal?
• 1:12:10
Amy: They say other things. Yeah. I think a lot of doctors tend to go based off of text textbooks that they've learned, you know, twenty years ago. Yeah. Thirty years ago.
• 1:12:20
And they don't update. And that was one of the things I love about doctor Jordan is she's always doing, like, research studies and, like She... There's one that came out yesterday. She knows her. Yeah.
• 1:12:31
Oh, way up. Cool. Yeah. And so I love that about her, and I just... I I almost felt like...
• 1:12:36
I say that I don't trust doctor. I almost feel like I can have blindfolds on, and I trusted her. Oh, because of how much she really was so into the research. I just... I I...
• 1:12:45
Yeah. I couldn't trust other doctors to be that way because I felt like they just wanted... They just web based off of what they learned in school twenty years ago. Yeah.. So that's why I'm a little scarred nowadays.
• 1:12:56
You're gonna hear me say all the time, do your own research. I... You're not
• 1:12:58
Lauren: with you. Do you... Chat GBT by a... So we can take control and we don't just rely and then they laugh
• 1:13:06
  Amy: at you.
• 1:13:07
Lauren: I feel like they don't laugh at you as much when you go in now and you're like, this is what I think I have.
• 1:13:11
Amy: Oh, no. Now they... You're like, they know what people are
• 1:13:13
Lauren: really catching on and able to do their own research. Yeah. Yeah. You... Let me like stop googling.
• 1:13:18
But in fairness, I am a high...
• 1:13:19
Amy: And I don't hold up that that also inspires people to like to get that courage to find out for yourself. Don't wait for the doctor to tell you why you're having a miscarriage. Find out yourself. Mhmm. Google it.
• 1:13:30
Yep. You know what I mean? But what... Make sure you check your research. Yeah.
• 1:13:33
You're like, do you wanna ask to me though about medical studies? But I remember reading, like, so many medical studies. Yeah. And, like, reading that entire book in, a day and a half. Wow.
• 1:13:42
Finding that doctor, like, don't wait for a doctor to... And I think that that... If I do say so, is that what I feel like that really speaks to, like, how much I wanted to be a mom.
• 1:13:51
  Whitney: How desperate you have
• 1:13:52
Amy: to be to be, like, to read all these research studies and, read a book in the day and a half. Like, I wasn't gonna let anything stop. And, like, one of my toxic traits about me sometimes, I always say... I actually hate that this is my toxic trait, but it just is. I'm a little bit of a procrastinator.
• 1:14:04
I can be that. Mhmm. Unless there's some... Like, I have to really, like, you know, I have to have a fire for something, and that's how you know I have the fire for it. I was like, well, I wanna be a mom.
• 1:14:15
I'm gonna wait to have a third miscarriage. I wanna wait for
• 1:14:18
Lauren: the doctors to settle down. I'm not doing this down. Yeah.
• 1:14:20
  Whitney: I wasn't going. I'm just gonna
• 1:14:21
Amy: do it myself. So I think it speaks to like how badly I really wanted it. And sweet baby Kiwow.
• 1:14:25
  Whitney: Mhmm.
• 1:14:26
Amy: Yeah. So I love it. Little slow amaze... But I think this also speaks to how different journeys can meet. Yeah.
• 1:14:32
Sometimes it could be a surprise, sometimes it could be picture perfect. Sometimes it could be you're a same here. You're still trying. Yeah. Yeah.
• 1:14:39
It's just you just never... You never know what everybody's going through. And regardless of what it is, there's another moment there that can relate to you, and you're not alone. Right? Like, that's what this podcast is about.
• 1:14:50
  And...
• 1:14:51
  Lauren: Yeah. Just being
• 1:14:52
Whitney: a lifeline for other moms out there and sharing our stories and pulling back the curtain.
• 1:14:57
Amy: Yeah. Pulling back the curtain. Mhmm.
• 1:14:59
Whitney: Yeah. Welcome to the group chat, guys. We'll see you next time. Bye. Bye.
• 1:15:04
  Amy: Doctor.
