- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic.
- 0:25Way. Hey, everybody.
- 0:28Good morning. What do you believe you're not
- 0:31good at? OK, now I'm asking this question
- 0:34for a very specific reason, because I believe I'm not great
- 0:37at cooking. I, I can do it, but I'm, I, I
- 0:41don't make things that are outstanding typically.
- 0:44Now when I say that, it's really strange because I do make
- 0:48Thanksgiving like I'm the person that does Thanksgiving, but it
- 0:51takes me 3 days of getting ready for it.
- 0:54It takes me all this time to plan for it.
- 0:59I, I get very overwhelmed by it. I have to work really hard at
- 1:03putting it all together. And it is, it is a challenge for
- 1:08me to say the least. To say the least, it's a
- 1:11challenge for me. So I whenever I have a thought
- 1:16about wanting to do something like that, like do a big meal,
- 1:20put something together, I always get to that place immediately of
- 1:24like, Oh no, Oh no, Oh no. Now this is happening live as we
- 1:29talk about it because my guys are out hiking and they're in
- 1:33the hills of like North Carolina.
- 1:36It's like out and the deal is that it was supposed to be
- 1:41spring decent weather. Well, it turns out as I see it
- 1:45on my screen as I'm watching all of this, it's very, very cold.
- 1:49So I am, you know, when by the time they get home, they're
- 1:53going to be really, really cold. So I thought, oh, wouldn't it be
- 1:57nice to come home to a nice hot meal yes, that would be lovely,
- 2:02wouldn't it? So I'm thinking I can do this.
- 2:04Then I start getting completely overwhelmed with the thought of
- 2:08like, OK, well, what would I make and what would that look
- 2:11like? And how how would I put that
- 2:13together? And what would the timing be?
- 2:15And, and my brain instantly goes to overwhelm with it.
- 2:19Like, I'm not even talking a little, I'm talking a lot
- 2:22because I have to try to quote, UN quote, figure out what would
- 2:26work. And especially with timing, you
- 2:29know, So of course I start to say, OK, I, I remember my
- 2:35grandmother always having things in a pot because having six kids
- 2:40in the house, me being one of them, and then all the other
- 2:43kids running in and out of the house all the time, she would
- 2:47always have a pot of something that was ready to go.
- 2:50It wasn't as though she was ill equipped at any point in time to
- 2:55feed anyone. At any point in time, the woman
- 2:58could just whip out stuff and have it ready.
- 3:00So I remembered, oh, she had a crock pot.
- 3:02OK, I have a crock pot and no, I don't have an insta pot.
- 3:06You know, I, I just don't have one.
- 3:08I'm, I don't even have a microwave because I hate them so
- 3:10much. So I, I'm here, I am like, OK, I
- 3:14could do this or I could do this.
- 3:15And I start thinking it through and mind you, it's pouring here.
- 3:19Thank God it's pouring here because we have a real issue
- 3:23with rain right now and not having enough of it.
- 3:25We are way behind. We are considered in an
- 3:27exceptional drought, which never thrills anybody.
- 3:30When you're in that and you can hear me in the background, I'm
- 3:33doing chores because it's in between the rain, so I can run
- 3:37outside and take care of the chickens.
- 3:39And I'm, I'm just like, Oh my gosh, OK, I I've got this crock
- 3:43pot. What am I going to do with it?
- 3:45So I start looking up recipes and there's very few recipes for
- 3:49crock pots. It's all talking insta pot.
- 3:52But I'm like, OK, doesn't matter.
- 3:54I can, I can make this work. I can do like a extended version
- 3:58of it. It doesn't have to be the way
- 4:00they're saying. I can just use it like the slow
- 4:01version. I remember my grandmother having
- 4:04things cooked for 678 hours. It's OK.
- 4:07So I'm talking myself off the ledge constantly and this got me
- 4:12really focused on look how look how crazy it can make you when
- 4:16you think you're not good at something.
- 4:18Now I'm not saying give yourself false credit where credit is not
- 4:22due because that's not my jam. I'm saying give yourself a
- 4:25chance. Tell yourself OK, it's OK, you
- 4:28can do it. Will it be perfect?
- 4:30Probably not, but that's OK. It doesn't have to be perfect,
- 4:34it just needs to be. Something.
- 4:36That they can eat when they get home.
- 4:37It does not have to be perfection.
- 4:40So I'm, I'm like, I go through, I've got all these cookbooks
- 4:44because I love cookbooks. I love the idea of the
- 4:47cookbooks. And that's what's funny about
- 4:49it. I will hand the recipes to mark
- 4:52and be like, oh, can you make this or can you make this?
- 4:56And if it's a recipe, I should be able to follow it.
- 4:59But I got so freaked out by failed things before with it
- 5:02that I just tell myself, oh, it's not my jam.
- 5:05I I don't do that well with it and it's all crap.
- 5:09It's all crap. I can do it, I should do it, and
- 5:13I'm making a decision to practice that.
- 5:15And this year I'm doing it in even a bigger way, because if
- 5:18I'm growing all these vegetables, I certainly am going
- 5:21to try to cook with these vegetables more than I normally
- 5:25do, and I'm going to make it work somehow.
- 5:27So I've got the Christopher Kimball vegetable, for those of
- 5:31you who don't know, he's a PBS guy and he has a show on there
- 5:36and he's got tons of cookbooks out and he's based out of
- 5:40Boston, which is, you know, hometown for me.
- 5:43So I'm like, OK, I want to, I love his stuff.
- 5:47And it's always, he's got a book called Cookish that's amazing.
- 5:50And I can do little things in there.
- 5:52So I'm like, wait, I'm OK with this.
- 5:53I can actually do this. So I am off to go and say I'm
- 5:58going to go pick up this meat. I'm going to make this for when
- 6:00they come home and we'll see if it's a success.
- 6:03But either way, I'm not going to allow myself to think I'm not
- 6:06good enough to do it. I'm just going to do it and
- 6:08we'll see. And if it sucks, we'll go out to
- 6:10dinner. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:12you have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 6:14Bye.
