- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It. All starts right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the three O take presented by Sea Cake.
- 0:17This episode 489 I'll be your host Kyle Cordon.
- 0:20I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:24Nate. Heyo, heyo, heyo.
- 0:30Happy Monday, folks. Welcome back.
- 0:33Welcome back. We've got we've got good stuff
- 0:37so far. It's offseason.
- 0:39Good stuff. I think good stuff today, good
- 0:42stuff so far this offseason. Like there was maybe 1 AP one
- 0:46episode that was that a little bit of a low overall I'm I'm
- 0:51delightfully surprised with our offseason.
- 0:54And I think it's only going to get better because I think if
- 0:56there's any truth to what you and I were talking about maybe a
- 1:01week or two ago where we were saying that we had a feeling
- 1:04that some of these, sure, you're going to have your smaller names
- 1:07getting signed, getting traded, so on and so forth.
- 1:10But I think you and I and I, I would venture, say a lot of
- 1:14people out there are optimistic that some of these bigger name
- 1:17deals are going to get done closer to like maybe by the end
- 1:21of the year given the way last offseason went.
- 1:23Like nobody wants a repeat of that.
- 1:25Nobody wants that. I think people are going to have
- 1:27some Christmas gifts that they're very, very excited
- 1:30about. I hope so.
- 1:36I mean, the biggest Christmas gift of them all.
- 1:38I think we can just go ahead and.
- 1:40Say yeah, yeah. Possibly the biggest one we're
- 1:44going to see maybe in the next decade.
- 1:51It's happening right now, folks. Juan Soto.
- 1:53Juan Soto. The sweepstakes continue.
- 1:57The latest we have as baseball fans reported is that the Mets.
- 2:06It was reported that the Mets of the there was four teams that he
- 2:11was meeting with. It was the Red Sox, the Blue
- 2:13Jays, the Mets and the Yankees, and the Mets are the only team
- 2:19that we have heard a report on in terms of a number, and it
- 2:23was, again, cannot stress this enough, reported $660 million.
- 2:33Nate thoughts? We, we, we knew this was
- 2:37happening. We knew that the Mets were going
- 2:40to offer whatever he wanted. We knew that this is, if you're
- 2:45a Mets fan, you are. This is the dream scenario.
- 2:50This is more of a dream scenario than when Steve Cohen officially
- 2:54bought the team and had his first offseason.
- 2:57Like, this is a payroll that is what they have 170 + 1,000,000
- 3:04dollars of room compared to 2024's payroll.
- 3:09And we know that Steve Cohen has come out and said multiple times
- 3:12every year that it doesn't matter.
- 3:14He's willing to pay to win, so he could very well go over
- 3:182024's #170 mil of room left. There's plenty that they can do.
- 3:29So much came off the books. I think it's ideal that I think
- 3:37it's ideal for baseball that this is a top three player in
- 3:44the game. Can we say that?
- 3:48Can we, can we talk about this a little bit?
- 3:50I'm glad you brought that up. And I'm not, I'm not necessarily
- 3:53disputing that because I've, I've offered more than my fair
- 3:57share of, of Soto praise and rightfully so generational
- 4:02talent. There's people that scoff at
- 4:03that, which I think is silly because if you look at what he's
- 4:07done. To.
- 4:08This point in his career and what he's capable of doing he is
- 4:15I mean, and we'll even touch on a little later with the Hall of
- 4:18Fame ballot pretty much go ahead and chalk him up as a Hall of
- 4:21Famer. We can just go ahead and and and
- 4:23assume that's going to be the case.
- 4:27But can we, can we talk for just like a second about this $660
- 4:31million Because look, the reality is we're.
- 4:34Doing it a bit. The React.
- 4:36Let's say that again. We overdoing it a bit, you
- 4:38think? I mean, we're pushing Ohtani
- 4:42money for a guy that I mean, let's just call a spade a spade
- 4:46is for all intents and purposes a league average outfielder.
- 4:51Big picture wise, sure, you can look at the Super ultra advanced
- 4:56analytics to to maybe stay make a case otherwise, but just you
- 5:00know on paper is not going to not going to blow you away with
- 5:05this defense does not have speed He's there's.
- 5:10Tools. There's tools missing.
- 5:12There's tools missing. He can't pitch.
- 5:15He's not going to have the same international draws.
- 5:17Otani as as as electric as that region of the world is with
- 5:23baseball, the it's just a matter of fact that he is not going to
- 5:28have the same type of pull internationally as Shohei Otani
- 5:32does. And you have to take into
- 5:34account the fact that he's not going to be, he's not even going
- 5:37to be sniffing the revenue that Otani brings in.
- 5:41And we're talking about a $660 million offer.
- 5:45Reported, Yeah. And let me let me let me further
- 5:49clarify or further support where you stand for anybody that's new
- 5:54to listening. Kyle is in the DC area.
- 5:57Kyle has been able to be right down the street from the for the
- 6:01first half of Soto's career and gotten a witness first hand how
- 6:06special he is. So whatever we say today is not
- 6:11from a position of not liking Soto.
- 6:13I think you and I are very much in the Soto camp.
- 6:18I just said I think he's the top three player in the game.
- 6:21So and I would agree. Moving forward, I agree dude, I
- 6:26agree. I think we got to assume that
- 6:30the very least this is a 12 year deal.
- 6:33Whatever he gets is a 12 year. At the very, very least,
- 6:36probably 13 or 14 years. And I'd say at least half of
- 6:41those years are going to be spent as a full time DH.
- 6:47Yeah, when you had to consider that, yeah.
- 6:50Defensively, DC is a big outfield.
- 6:56San Diego and Yankee Stadium are very much some of the smallest
- 7:00right fields you can play and it was still average at best to
- 7:06below average. City Field is a big outfield.
- 7:13Wow. We're just, we're just making
- 7:15hints at at later topics all throughout this thing in the
- 7:17early going, aren't we? We kind of are just.
- 7:19Talking about big out, talking about big outfields a little bit
- 7:22later. Big right field.
- 7:24It's a big right field. Now.
- 7:28Are they willing to make changes?
- 7:29Probably they have before. Do they?
- 7:31Do they make adjustments and say let's make this more of a
- 7:35hiddenly hit hitter friendly side for our brand new lefty
- 7:40that we're getting like maybe I don't know.
- 7:42But either way, defensively, that's a big outfield to to
- 7:45manhandle and I think he's going to be a full time DH and.
- 7:53To clarify, you're saying like back like back?
- 7:56I would say post 30 years old at the very at the very latest, I
- 8:01think he's going to be a full time DH because look at like a
- 8:08Giancarlo Stanton. Like we watched really solid
- 8:13defense in right field in Miami. He looked pretty good.
- 8:17Didn't he win a Gold Glove? I think he did really well in
- 8:22right field. And now we've now injury wise,
- 8:26I'm not saying that like athletically they're on the same
- 8:29level, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend that Soto's
- 8:33going to get better at right field.
- 8:35I'm not going to sit here and pretend that he's going to get
- 8:37faster and more athletic. I'm not going to pretend that
- 8:41the arm is going to get stronger.
- 8:44You know what I mean? So that's something to consider
- 8:49when you talk about plugging up ADH in a game where I think it's
- 8:55trended more towards DH being used as 1/2 day off or you know,
- 9:02not having a full time DH has created some flexibility with a
- 9:06lot of line UPS. So it's it is an interesting
- 9:10argument. I do feel you there.
- 9:15But again, just going back to the Mets and in their position
- 9:18right now, there's there's never a better I, I can't remember in
- 9:25my lifetime a better time for the Mets to push all chips to
- 9:29the middle of the table. And and let me just circle back
- 9:35on my point earlier. This is not in me maybe balking
- 9:40at the 660 mark. That's that's not a reflection
- 9:44of who I think Sotowiz is a player, what I think he
- 9:47deserves. It's more about.
- 9:50When you draw the line. Like when, when you compare and
- 9:54and I know it, it's we're not talking about Otani here, but
- 9:57given that that deal basically just happened like we're not
- 10:01even what a year removed from, from that being from, from that
- 10:06going down. Sure.
- 10:07But even then it's deferred. So it's like, I don't know if
- 10:09we're. No, I understand.
- 10:11This is worse. Yeah, that's another element to
- 10:14this whole thing, because you just know, yeah, I, I, there's
- 10:22no situation where I can convince myself that Juan Soto's
- 10:25taking a single dime of deferred money.
- 10:28I just, I'm, I'm trying. I I just can't, I can't bring
- 10:31myself to say that. But at the end of the day,
- 10:35though, because this again, report is coming from the the
- 10:41direction of the Mets, it's very it's quite possible that Cohen
- 10:46doesn't necessarily view Soto as a player worth that much.
- 10:50Maybe he's looking at the numbers and saying, you know,
- 10:53we're talking revenue here. He's not bringing in Otani
- 10:56revenue, but let's just blow everybody else out of the water.
- 10:59So it's not even a a choice that he has to make.
- 11:02If that's the case, then so be it.
- 11:04But it if we're going to get into this bidding war because we
- 11:07actually, and when I say we, I'm talking about these teams that
- 11:10are reportedly in the mix again, Mets, Red Sox, Yankees, Blue
- 11:16Jays, throw the blue, throw the Dodgers in there, the Blue Jays.
- 11:20If we're going to start getting into this bidding war, because
- 11:23we think that like you're going to get a similar return, I would
- 11:27just caution you to maybe look yourself in the mirror and say,
- 11:31again, going back to a point we made, just an episode or a point
- 11:35we made an episode or two ago is like if it gets, if it gets much
- 11:41higher than that, maybe think about how else you could
- 11:46allocate that money because that is a lot of.
- 11:49Money, yeah, I get and and, you know.
- 11:53Do I want want Soto? Yes, that's.
- 11:55Right, that's. Ultimately, that's the.
- 11:56We've had this conversation a few episodes ago where you'd be,
- 12:01you'd be crazy to say out loud that you would, you would rather
- 12:05go a different direction. But the truth is if we did the
- 12:10660 / 14 years, it's a little over $47 million a year.
- 12:16Now, again, more to the reason as to why the Mets, everything
- 12:23is is turning up Mets right now. All the payroll that just came
- 12:27off the books, the vibes of of how well 2024 went, him already
- 12:35being in New York and kind of feeling that out it, it's all
- 12:39there. But it can't be that.
- 12:41Easy, right? There's room for it.
- 12:44By the way, just a frame of reference.
- 12:46I, I, I forget and I want to just look it up and read it out
- 12:51loud because it's still insane when you see it.
- 12:56Johe gets the deferred money is 10 years of $68,000,000 a year
- 13:02starting in 2034. So just just just throw that
- 13:10back out there for everybody. He's making a dollar a month
- 13:13right now and then he's going to be rolling deep in it.
- 13:17But you, you know, with inflation and all that, I mean,
- 13:20what does it really come down to still?
- 13:22It's going to be, he's going to be in Japan.
- 13:24It's not going to matter. It's going to.
- 13:25Be nice to want. To have to deal with the income
- 13:28tax of California when he's when he's done.
- 13:30Nice to know that you he won't be playing baseball and he'll
- 13:33still be having that kind of payday, yeah.
- 13:39But let's, I mean, let's say again, I'm just kind of
- 13:43subtracting that 170 number. I think it was 174 is what I
- 13:47read of what came off the books. And if they were to match 2024's
- 13:51payroll, it's $174 million to play with this offseason.
- 13:59Let's just take a nice round Number and take 45 off of that
- 14:03for Soto. Maybe if you want to round up to
- 14:0550, you bring it down to that 120 range.
- 14:10They still have so much that they can do.
- 14:13You can bring back Pete Alonso. You can fill out the rest of
- 14:17that rotation. You can go get some of these
- 14:22rather expensive relievers that I don't think there's too many
- 14:26teams in the in the league that are willing to fork over the
- 14:30money for a Tanner Scott. You can go get them.
- 14:35You can do a lot with this. Yeah, it's going to be an
- 14:41offseason. I mean, if things go that
- 14:43direction, we could possibly be looking at an offseason
- 14:46equivalent of what we saw at the trade deadline where you're
- 14:48going to have these some of these guys playing some of these
- 14:52positions that maybe 9 times out of 10 wouldn't warrant X amount
- 14:57of dollars or X like a certain package.
- 15:00But if if we're just going to continue this trend of, of just
- 15:05trying to blow other teams out of the water with packages and
- 15:08it not even really being much of A bidding war anymore, it's just
- 15:11like, let's just throw everything we can at the wall,
- 15:14see what sticks then. Yeah, Like we're, we're only
- 15:16going to really see a handful of teams going out and and plucking
- 15:19these these names and whether it be again, via trade, via
- 15:25signing, whatever, because they have the resources to do it.
- 15:29So I don't, I don't think it's insane to say that the Mets
- 15:32could get Soto Burns. You could get three out of the
- 15:35four between Soto Burns, Pete, Alonzo, Tanner Scott and and
- 15:42plug holes in your roster. I don't think that's crazy.
- 15:51That's just, it's silly. I mean, it's not, but it it's
- 15:54just, it's silly. It's absolutely silly.
- 15:57And still have money to play with too.
- 15:59But that just goes. If you get all four of those
- 16:02guys, that's probably a hundred, 120.
- 16:06But that just goes back to my question, though.
- 16:07It's like it, it can't be this, this obvious, right?
- 16:10So do to the Mets, like we just went through this with Otani.
- 16:14It was clear as day he was going to LA.
- 16:16We just went through this with Yamamamoto.
- 16:18We knew he was going to LA like it.
- 16:22We can't have another, another situation like this, right?
- 16:25Like, can we, can we maybe have a little bit of a surprise hit
- 16:31us before Christmas? I don't know, man.
- 16:36Like I think the comments from how Stein Brenner are scary to
- 16:44where the Yankees don't want to act like the Yankees
- 16:47financially. And if you're Soda, if you're
- 16:51Boris and you're hearing that like that, that gives you
- 16:54concern because you just played for a team that wasn't good
- 16:59enough to win the World Series, that bringing you back isn't
- 17:02enough to get over that hump. They need to do more.
- 17:07But you're also not willing to take a pay cut.
- 17:10How good of a presentation do you think the Yankees are really
- 17:12going to be able to have outside of history and Monument Park and
- 17:22Number retired? Like eventually that's wearing
- 17:25off. That's wearing off because it's
- 17:26been so long since you've been the cream of the crop, since
- 17:32you've been at the top of the mountain.
- 17:34It's hard to continue to have that conversation.
- 17:37It's hard to, it's hard for the Yankees to sit here and say we
- 17:41have the best facilities and the, and the best resources and
- 17:47the best city because in reality, the Mets have just as
- 17:53much, if not more money to play with to give you all of those
- 17:56things. And again, we've talked about in
- 17:59past episodes like there's no shadows, no offense, but like
- 18:06Keith Hernandez, that's that's the legend that you're going up
- 18:11against. I will say there was some, there
- 18:16was some kickback and I have seen kickback elsewhere.
- 18:19Who of of folks who feel that the Francisco Lindor not being.
- 18:26Like. Yeah, no, for sure.
- 18:29But they there, there are folks that are hesitant to to agree
- 18:35with the sentiment that Juan Soto going to the Mets would
- 18:39equate or would equal it being his team.
- 18:45Because you have Francisco Lindor there.
- 18:48And for the record, I'm with there.
- 18:49May be a few years. There may be a few years.
- 18:51But how old is Lindor? Not 25.
- 18:55Not. Is Lindor a surefire Hall of
- 18:59Famer? Probably not.
- 19:02He may, he may, you make it in. He'll he'll end up there.
- 19:06But like, is he a generational no record-breaking in multiple
- 19:13category type offensive player? No, so you can you're that
- 19:18argument is recency bias of 2024.
- 19:25If we go back to May of this year and and further back like
- 19:30you're not none of these fans are talking this way about
- 19:33Lindor. You're telling me 3/4 of a
- 19:36season has suddenly made the Mets Lindor's team?
- 19:43This is move over. I'm sorry.
- 19:46Juan Soto will be the guy when he's there.
- 19:50He will be the guy. There will be if, if he does
- 19:54what he is supposed to do and he's there for the length of
- 19:57this contract, he will have a statue outside of that stadium
- 20:01and he will be the Met. Move over David Wright, move
- 20:08over Keith Hernandez. This will be the guy.
- 20:15Tell me I'm wrong if you're in the chat and you genuinely are
- 20:20going to sit there and tell me that 3/4 of a solid top five MVP
- 20:26voting season out of Lindor means that it's his franchise.
- 20:31It's ridiculous. Well.
- 20:34Yes and no. Like I think it's, it's more
- 20:36than just 2024 that you have to take into account.
- 20:39And I know that like he I think. He's kind of been somewhat of a
- 20:42let down outside of this year. I'm leaving that I'm, I'm going
- 20:48to leave you to defend that elsewhere, whether it be in the
- 20:54chat, in the comments or so on and so forth.
- 20:56But I have, I have, I have no interest in in opening that can
- 21:02of worms. But Speaking of a shortstop,
- 21:07let's switch gears here, Willy Adamus.
- 21:11Market's eating up a little bit. I saw recently, either today or
- 21:14yesterday, that the Astros are reportedly becoming more serious
- 21:20in their pursuit. Possibly.
- 21:24No, no, no, not pursuit. I'll say interest.
- 21:26Did you buy that? No, Guys never played either.
- 21:30Guys never played third base in his life.
- 21:32I don't buy. I think it's to bring the price
- 21:34down on Bregman, whatever the asking price for Bregman is.
- 21:38I think they're bringing it down, saying, Oh well, you know,
- 21:41if you move on, we can go get somebody else.
- 21:46Yeah, if if you're the Astros and you let Alex Bregman walk,
- 21:54there's probably a couple other options.
- 21:56And again, I'm no businessman, I'm no front office executive.
- 22:00But you would have to think that there's probably a couple other
- 22:04options that you would explore before slotting in a guy who,
- 22:07again, has never played third base in his life over third
- 22:12base. We we talked about it last week.
- 22:15Alec Boehm is a possible option. If if, if arnotto trade market
- 22:19is is serious Arnotto, you go get Arnotto Willie.
- 22:25If I'm Willie Adamas, I don't know if I'm at a point in my
- 22:27career like sure, I'm going to. I'm probably going to say what
- 22:31you know needs to be said just to come across as a team player.
- 22:34And I'm sure I'm sure he's a good dude and I'm sure he would
- 22:37play third base. If that's what if the if the
- 22:39team acquiring him told him he had to do, I'm sure he'd do it.
- 22:42But you got to think there's probably an element to his game
- 22:46where he's like I'm fully capable of of staying put where
- 22:48I'm at. I want to go to a team where I
- 22:50can be a short me and be myself. Especially coming off, I would
- 22:55say his best, his best year of his career.
- 22:58Oh, I had a yeah, I had a great year.
- 23:02But yeah, I the the Houston I I just don't know.
- 23:07It just doesn't make sense. And to your point, yeah, coming
- 23:10off a great year, 3232 bombs 100 and 212 RB is 21 stolen bases
- 23:17794 RPS, 3.1 war. Solid and I don't have we heard
- 23:27from him or his camp that he's willing to play another position
- 23:31that that. Is the thing I've not heard
- 23:33usually. Hear about The only thing about
- 23:35third base that I've heard about Willie Domas is what the Astros
- 23:39are interested in. Yep, and usually when when a
- 23:42guy's market starts to heat up, you usually start getting some
- 23:45sound bites out of the player in questions camp And I unless
- 23:51somebody else has heard it, I in digging around I have not heard
- 23:56anything from Adamus and for that reason I just, I don't
- 24:01think it's a good fit. Yeah, I don't see it.
- 24:08So if you want to keep him at shortstop, what are you
- 24:10thinking? Well, John Morosi, who I believe
- 24:17was the one that came out with the Astros report initially also
- 24:21included the Braves, the Red Sox, the Blue Jays as possible
- 24:29options to to go get him. Personally, I like the Braves as
- 24:33a fit. I'm I could not be more over
- 24:36Arcia. Yeah, just.
- 24:39Yeah, beginning new at the six hole and just.
- 24:44Man, I do like that fit too. I, I just sure there's some,
- 24:49some bias at play there, but I, I mean, if you're going to go
- 24:51from RCA to Adamus, who's who's complaining?
- 24:56Man, they got room to do it. They always do.
- 25:01And look, I know the Braves, I know Braves fans love to, to, to
- 25:05give off this vibe that they're, they're loyal fans and they are.
- 25:09And I'm not knocking them for that, but look what happened
- 25:12when when Freddie left. Look what happened when Matt
- 25:15Olson came into town. They fell in love with Matt
- 25:18Olson. So and and we're not we're
- 25:21talking about Orlando Arcea. Like this isn't a brave star by
- 25:26any stretch. So if he was to take a back seat
- 25:29or be shipped out, whatever. And you brought in Willie Adamas
- 25:32to be your guy for the the foreseeable future.
- 25:35Who's Hussein? Boo to that.
- 25:37Yeah, I agree. I do concur, trying to think of
- 25:44like some surprise teams. Did I overhear I don't know that
- 25:50they would ever be in the market?
- 25:52Did I overhear that the Pirates have officially moved O'Neill
- 25:57Cruz the outfield? Did I see that somewhere
- 26:00correctly after an abysmal let? Me confirm.
- 26:08Yep, center field. So Brian Reynolds moves to left
- 26:13full time. Did this happen over the summer?
- 26:18I don't I vague, I barely remember this.
- 26:21Feel like they snuck it in in like August and.
- 26:23Yeah, except like looks. Yeah, start of September.
- 26:26So he wasn't out there for very long.
- 26:27But yeah, I guess he, I guess he was out there.
- 26:30But I mean, at that point the pirate story I think had fizzled
- 26:33out. So I don't know how many
- 26:34eyeballs admittedly were on the Pirates, but that.
- 26:37'D be neat, that's. That's a good point, but it's
- 26:41always a matter of. Like about money?
- 26:43Do you want to trade it within the OR not trade, but you know,
- 26:46do you want to, do you want to work within the division?
- 26:51Yeah, trying to think Seattle is the is the JP Crawford story
- 27:02dried up? Is that all done?
- 27:06I would might even be a free Asian, isn't he?
- 27:09I wouldn't. I don't.
- 27:11I'm not hanging on to that. No, I don't think he's a free
- 27:14agent. I'm not.
- 27:16I'm not too interested If I'm a Mariner fan.
- 27:18I don't. I think I'm all done there.
- 27:20I mean, sure, now he's a free agent in 2027, so he's got two
- 27:25years left. And that might be true for a lot
- 27:28of Mariners fans. But if you're the Mariners front
- 27:30office, I don't know if if if you're washed up or if you're
- 27:33you're over it to the point of having to shake up that whole
- 27:36deal for a guy like William Thomas.
- 27:39I don't. I think A-Team, like the Braves,
- 27:42should be a much better. Fit Cleveland, maybe.
- 27:47I do like the Braves now that you.
- 27:49I mean, when you put it out there, didn't really come to
- 27:52mind for me until that. But man, I like it.
- 27:57I like that fit a lot. You know what I like Nate.
- 28:00Damn it he would. He would hit like he would hit
- 28:02like 6th. Isn't that crazy?
- 28:09What else do you like? I like Paul Skeen's rookie card
- 28:22being out there somewhere in the wild.
- 28:24And boy, when it gets found, can we talk about this Hall that
- 28:32it's about the pull, the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 28:34I know it's been a a couple days at this point, but in case you
- 28:37haven't heard, which I don't know how you haven't at this
- 28:39point because it seems like everybody's getting in on this.
- 28:43The Pittsburgh Pirates have offered in exchange for someone
- 28:47finding Paul Skean's debut patch autographed card, which is, by
- 28:52the way, obviously one of one. The Pirates have offered two
- 28:56Pirate season tickets behind home plate for the next 30
- 29:00years. What?
- 29:0430 years a meet and greet with Paul Skeens 2 Paul Skeens
- 29:11autographed jerseys a softball game for 30.
- 29:15They're really, really tapping into this. 30 bit softball game
- 29:20for 30 at PNC Park with coaching from Pirates alumni.
- 29:23Private tour of Pirate City and is that Lecom Park as well as
- 29:30other unique experiences. Not to mention Livi Dunn got in
- 29:35on the action. She said let's she tweeted out,
- 29:37let's raise the stakes. The person who finds the card
- 29:39can sit with me at a Pirates game in my suite.
- 29:42Seth Meyers on top of that said you can join me.
- 29:46He said if you let me see it, I just want to be able to look at
- 29:49it and then you can join that. You can join us at late night on
- 29:56set for a live taping of the show, which whatever, I don't.
- 30:01What am I going to do with that? But still cool that people are
- 30:03getting in on it, you know, like this is, this is becoming a huge
- 30:06thing. How?
- 30:11What is it worth? I saw today that it was
- 30:15estimated at $500,000. So you, you get this card.
- 30:26What's your net? Your net worth grows 1/2 a
- 30:29million and then all of these offers come raining down on you.
- 30:36Do you keep the card? Do the pirates want it back?
- 30:39I'm confused. What do you mean?
- 30:43If you find it and they just give you all those things, what,
- 30:46what are you giving it? What are you?
- 30:48What are you giving up in return?
- 30:49The card. You're giving them the card
- 30:51because I believe the the pirates want the card.
- 30:55So I read so that they can I guess keep it at PNC for the
- 30:59fans. So it can be it kind of it can
- 31:02kind of stay within the family if you will.
- 31:04But I guess if you were to sell it out right I'm sure it would
- 31:07fetch more than 500 at this point given just the hype around
- 31:10it and and assuming schemes career just continues to trend
- 31:15upwards, probably earn more than a or probably fetch a little
- 31:18more than 500K. I'm selling that thing right
- 31:23away. Thanks, Seth.
- 31:28Thanks, Livi. Thanks Pirates.
- 31:31That's another thing, too. Like I'm selling that thing.
- 31:33What are you going to do with Livy?
- 31:35What are you right? What are you going to?
- 31:36You're going to flirt with his. Girlfriend, you're a single
- 31:39that's even that's even a better point.
- 31:41I hadn't even really considered that I in my head I'm thinking,
- 31:44well, a married man, certainly not going to do that.
- 31:46But then I but then to your point, not even a single man's
- 31:48going to be smart and you're not going to do anything there
- 31:51because that's the whole reason she's there.
- 31:53You're. Going to somehow steal Livy from
- 31:55Paul Skeens. What do you think that?
- 31:58Would be the. Sweet.
- 31:59That would be the the theft of the century.
- 32:00Like you, you, you find this card and then you're nowhere to
- 32:05be found with Libby Dunn running off into the sunset in Cancun or
- 32:09something that now that would be a story.
- 32:13Now I'm not, I of course she would do that willingly.
- 32:16I'm not, I'm not, I'm not suggesting or promoting like
- 32:19kidnapping. I'm just saying.
- 32:20Run that back a little bit. Yeah.
- 32:22Just saying that I'm in. Some fine print, yeah.
- 32:24So you're selling it? If you find it selling that
- 32:27thing right away, we'll look. Look, I like Paul skins.
- 32:31We never know. You never know.
- 32:37You never know. Sometimes the hype gets a little
- 32:41too big for some britches. OK, I think he's going to be
- 32:45great. I think he's going to be
- 32:46excellent. But do I hang on to that puppy?
- 32:51No. Give me the 500 K right now.
- 32:53I'm buying a house. I mean what?
- 32:55Get some land, turn in a baseball.
- 32:58Get some land buying a goat. That's it.
- 33:02Never to be heard. Some chickens.
- 33:06Never to be heard from again. Those.
- 33:08Sunken in trampolines. Just ground level trampolines.
- 33:12In ground trampoline. Now I can get behind that.
- 33:15See cooking it's I mean end of the day you got to ask the
- 33:21question, how much are pirate season tickets worth at this
- 33:24point? That's what I'm saying.
- 33:25It's 30 years. Yeah, you.
- 33:27Extrapolated over 30 years but still.
- 33:30I don't. I don't even know.
- 33:31I would just take the 500 tick. Oh my God, we don't have time
- 33:34for this. No, I do, I do, I do Pirates
- 33:39season tickets. Let's see what they see, what
- 33:43they run. I'm.
- 33:44Really glad I got out in front of that kidnapping pit.
- 33:46I. I I am too.
- 33:48I'm just glad. I'm just glad nobody was able to
- 33:52make connect those dots, that I was somehow suggesting that
- 33:55somehow or that someone should kidnap Olivia Dunn.
- 33:59It's not what I'm suggesting. Just what are these?
- 34:03Plans tell me the tell me the price.
- 34:06You're not going to. You're going to have to call the
- 34:08pirates to figure that out. And that we don't have time for.
- 34:15Also, I'm sure you probably got to get on a waiting.
- 34:16Well, maybe not for the pirates. Probably don't have a waiting
- 34:18list for pirates. Probably not much of A waiting
- 34:20list, yeah. But you're probably not going to
- 34:23find that information online. What do?
- 34:26What do you think is a realistic number?
- 34:32I, I don't know, Grand. Even if it was 50 grand, what's
- 34:35I mean? 30 years. 50 * 30 Nope, that's
- 34:42not what I'm looking for. Carry the one.
- 34:45Yep, OK, the one even if it was $50,000 over the next 30.
- 34:49Years. That's not that's that's.
- 34:52One in a let's see commas. Yep, what's 1 1/2 mil?
- 34:57But it's you're right. That's I mean, that's way of an
- 34:59exaggeration. And that's only three times what
- 35:02you'd be getting if you sold it right away.
- 35:07I'm not doing it. I just wouldn't do it.
- 35:10I'm selling that thing out right?
- 35:16I'll bump it up to 750. Give me 3/4 of $1,000,000 for
- 35:20finding a freaking card of another human.
- 35:23If if another. Human being that puts his pants
- 35:27on the same way. If you drop the season ticket
- 35:31cost estimate down to 25,000, it would be 750,000.
- 35:37Which I think 25 K season tickets, it's still overshooting
- 35:42it for sure. That's a very, very big
- 35:45estimate. Yeah, selling that thing.
- 35:48Selling that thing are we buying or sell Speaking of selling are
- 35:54we buying or selling the fact that there's going to be more
- 35:58than two inductees in the Hall of Fame ballot just dropped
- 36:06today you're. Putting the number at 2:00, run
- 36:12me through some names, what do you got?
- 36:14Some first time candidates that we've got.
- 36:16You've got Carlos Gonzalez, Curtis Granderson, Felix
- 36:19Hernandez, Adam Jones, Ian Kinsler, Russell Martin, Brian
- 36:23McCann, Dustin Pedroia, Hanley Ramirez, Fernando Rodney, CC
- 36:27Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Troy Tulowitzki and Ben Zoeberst.
- 36:32I'm seeing Suzuki, Sabathia and Hernandez is all like in the
- 36:42mix. Everybody else, thanks for
- 36:45coming out at least this year. Yeah.
- 36:48And again, that's just for the first time candidates.
- 36:50Obviously you've got the the guys that are returning.
- 36:52But I, I should have, I should have clarified when I asked over
- 36:56or or more than two candidates. I should have said first time
- 36:59candidates because again you've got you've got some returning
- 37:03members who borderline but of the 1st.
- 37:12Time coming from a Red Sox fan too.
- 37:13I mean I look I I respect Dustin Pedroia.
- 37:17I have I have respect for that man the way he played the game
- 37:22big time respect first ballot Hall of Famer.
- 37:27I don't think so. I just can't get there.
- 37:31I just can't get there. No, I think it's each your own
- 37:34And and I think CC, I think CC, I think.
- 37:41And and by me including Felix in the mix, I'm not necessarily
- 37:44saying that I think he's going to be in the first ballot
- 37:46because you just, I mean you in. Felix is.
- 37:49That what I said. You think Felix is going to be
- 37:52honor or CC? No, I think CC and Ichiro are
- 37:55the two of this of these first time candidates.
- 38:00But Felix, you just I mean, you look at the numbers and I know,
- 38:04I know war gets thrown around a lot and people have different
- 38:08feelings about war, but it I feel like it's a metric you can
- 38:12use when talking about the Hall of Fame and specifically with
- 38:16with these pictures. If you look at his, let me pull
- 38:20it up here. I had the tab up earlier.
- 38:22What happened to it? If you pull up here we go.
- 38:36If you pull up the war numbers for for the WAR 7, which is your
- 38:41best 7 WAR seasons again, do not have to be in a row.
- 38:45He ranks Felix Hernandez ranks a hundred, 110th, 110th.
- 38:59Where's the ranking strike? Johann Santana, 63rd and is not
- 39:04in the Hall of Fame. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:07I just don't see it. But numbers, I mean, look, those
- 39:16milestone numbers are are changing.
- 39:19You know, there's certain things that we look at as far as
- 39:24secured staples. You know, like I think 500 home
- 39:30runs is like the number, I think 3000 strikeouts is the number.
- 39:44Just kind of like a you're, you're, it's almost a shoe in.
- 39:48I feel like those numbers are just slowly coming down a little
- 39:52bit. Oh yeah, the 3000.
- 39:53I mean, that's. That's not going to.
- 39:55That's not going to happen again, really.
- 39:57Consider that a thing of the past.
- 39:59Yeah, I don't. I just, I'm wondering where the
- 40:04shift is happening, you know what I mean?
- 40:05Like where are we? When are we going to start
- 40:07shifting our our minds to lowering the standard
- 40:13qualifications? Speaking of shifting and
- 40:16lowering, let's talk about this Orioles left field wall.
- 40:21Waltimore as it well, I can't really say lovingly, was called
- 40:27because people hated it. People hated it.
- 40:32Orioles have decided to do a little reversal there of the the
- 40:41mile long left field wall. I have mad respect for this, I'm
- 40:47not going to lie. I do too.
- 40:49This is. Big brownie points in the
- 40:52self-awareness. Box self-awareness You you, you
- 40:56behaved like an adult. There was a clearly adults in
- 40:59the room. They said, you know what?
- 41:01You made hand up accountability from the Baltimore memorials
- 41:03right there. They said we made a mistake and
- 41:06people hate it, so let's let's get back in the good graces.
- 41:10I like that. So the wall is still going to
- 41:16begin at the 333 foot mark and it's going to move back at an
- 41:23angle to 373 feet. But what I'm reading lowered and
- 41:30what was reported is that the rest of the wall over to the
- 41:35bullpen area will be pulled in at varying distances between 9
- 41:40and 20 feet. And it's dropping down in
- 41:44height. The height of the wall will no
- 41:47longer be thirteen feet, but rather 8 in some areas and six
- 41:50feet 11 inches and others. Very good, very good.
- 41:55Robable 13 is not robable. That's insane.
- 42:02Just take an action away. I like this.
- 42:05What's going to happen with that little cut out spot next to?
- 42:10Nothing. The bull pinch is going to be.
- 42:12Empty nothing. So it what's going to be cool
- 42:16actually is they are going to give what's the guy's name, the
- 42:26Splash? What is that guy's name?
- 42:29Mr. Splash. They're giving Mr. Splash his
- 42:32own, his own platform. Let me see if I can send you
- 42:36this picture. Yeah, I'm sending this picture
- 42:40not. Really, we're really just
- 42:42rewarding lunatics at this point.
- 42:44Like the if you're crazy enough to just be the most loud and
- 42:52obnoxious fan you can be for a team, you get rewarded.
- 42:58Check out that platform. It's just going to be like a
- 43:01vacant area ultimately because I read they're not going.
- 43:08To be like a cameraman hanging out on that right.
- 43:11Possibly. Well, that's going to be for Mr.
- 43:13Splash. But then the space below it, I
- 43:17read that they're not adding seeds, they're not making any
- 43:19additions in that regard, but that they're simply just
- 43:21bringing in and lowering the wall.
- 43:24Do something fun there. Do something fun put like a big
- 43:28bird fountain. Give me something I like this
- 43:33though I do. I really like these renderings
- 43:35that I'm looking at. I like the weird cutouts in the
- 43:39angles. Huge fan.
- 43:41I love the idea of a ball just getting caught in that corner
- 43:44and left fielder just panicking because it rolls up the wall and
- 43:49we got some inside the park home runs that we we could see.
- 43:53I'm all about those angles. I like it.
- 43:57Mad respect. Job well done.
- 44:00Whoever pulled the trigger on this and said yes we need to
- 44:04correct our mistakes. I love that accountability.
- 44:07Big time accountability. And lastly here super quick
- 44:12Minute Maid Park will be no will be no more beginning January 1
- 44:18of 2025. The Astros announced today that
- 44:22they are changing the name of their ballpark to Daikin.
- 44:29That can't be. Right, Daikin, Speaking of lack
- 44:37of self-awareness, what is this? What are we doing?
- 44:39What is that company? What do they do?
- 44:41HVAC So you're going from the juice box to what?
- 44:46A lot of Astros fans are already campaigning for the ice box.
- 44:50No, no, doesn't work. Doesn't well, I mean, good on
- 44:54them for trying to make the most of it.
- 44:56I mean, what are they going to do reverse it?
- 44:59They're not going to reverse the decision decision.
- 45:01So at least like try to get creative with it.
- 45:04Yeah, Icebox, I can. I can dig it.
- 45:06Orange juice is really taking a hit this off.
- 45:08That's what I'm saying, man. We started this year with two
- 45:12operational functional baseball stadiums that were built on
- 45:19orange juice and now we have none.
- 45:21Just some random gut punches to the orange juice industry like
- 45:25this is it's it's tough to see Dakin.
- 45:33I hate field changes. I hate the names.
- 45:37I hate when when they change names.
- 45:39I mean, I'd be crazy. I hate, I hate corporate sponsor
- 45:43stadiums anyway. Yeah.
- 45:45But some of them like. They work.
- 45:48Some of them work and like if they're around.
- 45:50Long enough works Petco. Yeah, Petco works.
- 45:54Minute Maid Park just worked. It was like, you know, it's
- 45:56still a corporate sponsor, but like I'm I'm on board with this.
- 46:00But then you get somebody like this coming in.
- 46:04No, no, like the whole what, what's what I know we talk about
- 46:10all the time, the one out in Milwaukee, Great American
- 46:13family. Like that's never going to catch
- 46:14on. Like that's just not one that
- 46:16works. Oh.
- 46:18Minute Maid part Minute Maid Park just worked.
- 46:21This does not. Stick to beverages, you know, if
- 46:24it's not a beer, if it's not a juice, I don't want it.
- 46:29New rules. I agree.
- 46:31Commissioner for the day. Commissioner for the day, if
- 46:34it's not a beverage, get lost. Speaking of getting lost, let's
- 46:38get out of here. Free Sun Park that could hit
- 46:41Capri Sun Park could really hit. Someone needs to look into that.
- 46:49I I can dig it. Yeah.
- 46:53Is that it? That's it.
- 46:55We'll we'll wrap up. I know Rookie of the Year is
- 46:57happening like as we're speaking, but we'll save it.
- 47:00Let's we'll talk some awards on Thursday, but other than that.
- 47:07Curveballs. Don't chase them.
- 47:10We love you all and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 47:12baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
