- 4:24Speaker 2: Let's set the world ablaze.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Wow, this is oh, I got a famous woman here y'all.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I'm so excited to have you here.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It's just really.
- 4:36Speaker 2: It just really is something that collaborating is such a key to success, no matter where you are in the world, and that's always been my model, and that's why I created WD Pearson Associates because I said collaboration with entrepreneurs.
- 4:46Speaker 2: We have to get together to be able to connect right.
- 4:50Speaker 2: So connecting with one another, it makes a really big difference to help one another, right.
- 4:56Speaker 2: So, allison, without further ado, let me get you to tell a little bit about yourself.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I'm going to ask you a few questions, sure.
- 5:03Speaker 3: As you said before earlier, my bio kind of covers the whole story.
- 5:06Speaker 3: I'm originally from Trinidad and Tobago, moved to Toronto, Canada, and traveled to Haiti after the earthquake the devastating earthquake in Haiti 2010, which there is still ripple effect Currently.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Right now in Haiti is on the civil unrest, so the situation has not gotten better, Sad to say, in 14 years.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Wow.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Why ask people to remember Haiti?
- 5:32Speaker 3: Pray for Haiti, stand in solidarity, because it's people people and children, a lot of children in Haiti that needs our prayers.
- 5:41Speaker 3: They need our support wherever you can.
- 5:43Speaker 3: It's not shown on mainstream media and so that it gets swept under the rug a lot and people forget.
- 5:51Speaker 3: They go about their lives, but I keep on talking about Haiti Anything I do everybody I talk to.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I want them to remember Haiti, just for the memory.
- 6:00Speaker 3: And I started Women on Fire because of Haiti.
- 6:03Speaker 3: That's how we got started to raise funds to help women and children in Haiti, and at that time it was supposed to be a one-time luncheon.
- 6:11Speaker 3: It transcended to 12 years later, so this is our 12th anniversary of doing Women on Fire, bringing women together.
- 6:20Speaker 3: That started with literally a handful of women who wanted to help some children and women in Haiti, and today I'm so proud to say we still do.
- 6:30Speaker 3: There are a lot of things happening.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I can't talk about them right now, but there are a lot of things happening and people are going to hear about it.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Maybe you'll bring me back on later on in the year to talk about what we're doing to create change in Haiti for women and children.
- 6:48Speaker 3: And all of it came because of Women on Fire, because of Women on Fire, if it wasn't for this platform I am the founder, I'm the CEO, I'm the person who gets to talk to the people behind the scenes, and I've collaborated.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I've connected with so many incredible giving, supportive women over the years that continue to give, continue to connect and new women coming in, wanting to be part of woman, wanting.
- 7:18Speaker 3: How can I help?
- 7:19Speaker 3: How, what can I do?
- 7:20Speaker 3: What do you need?
- 7:21Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And so the platform, if you're looking for people who want to connect, who want to do things, not just about taking an award and running away, but to be interactive, to create relationships that are long lasting.
- 7:36Speaker 3: That transcends just the event that I always say.
- 7:40Speaker 3: The event is always the beginning.
- 7:41Speaker 3: It's the place where we get to meet in person, to hug and to take photos and to do all of that, but the actual connection starts after.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Now you've met the person, what do we do?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Let's meet for a Zoom meet.
- 7:55Speaker 3: You could be anywhere.
- 7:56Speaker 3: You could be in Canada, you could be in the States, you could be in Jamaica, you could be in Nigeria, you could be in Ireland, you could be in any country of the world, as long as you have an internet connection.
- 8:07Speaker 2: That's right.
- 8:09Speaker 3: We can get connected, you can collaborate, you can share.
- 8:12Speaker 3: The reason I got to Atlanta is because of collaboration.
- 8:17Speaker 2: A hundred percent.
- 8:19Speaker 3: One hundred percent.
- 8:20Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 8:21Speaker 3: So people don't realize the power of coming together with someone.
- 8:25Speaker 3: You know what they say when two are guarded, it's a mastermind.
- 8:28Speaker 3: When two are gathered, it's a mastermind.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Your idea and my idea.
- 8:32Speaker 3: What do we come up with?
- 8:33Speaker 3: And go from there, and I love what I do.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I'm always excited.
- 8:38Speaker 3: People say you don't get tired.
- 8:39Speaker 3: It's been 12 years.
- 8:41Speaker 3: I'm like no.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Every every year the new year for me, new influx of women from all over diverse background, diverse ages, diverse experience, industries, nationalities.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Diversity makes the world a beautiful place and I just it sure does, and I really have to say and I'm going to ask you a question in a minute I have to say I met and how we got together.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Uh, allison found me on um Facebook and she actually nominated me to be a woman on fire and I was one of the honorees last year and I'm excited to be able to go to the woman on fire here in Atlanta Now.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I missed it last year, allison, but I was there on Zoom.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you were there, that's right, on Zoom.
- 9:24Speaker 2: So Zoom, I don't know what we would do without Zoom.
- 9:27Speaker 2: So being there on Zoom was awesome.
- 9:30Speaker 2: And then we said I'm coming to Atlanta.
- 9:31Speaker 2: What would we do without Zoom?
- 9:31Speaker 2: So being there on Zoom was awesome.
- 9:32Speaker 2: And then we said I'm coming to Atlanta.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I said, okay, I can't miss it Coming to Atlanta.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Then I found out I have a convention the same weekend.
- 9:35Speaker 2: But I made it work out that I told my husband I'm coming home early.
- 9:38Speaker 2: You can stay there a day later, but I'm coming home early because I can't miss this.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I told these ladies in Canada I'm coming, I'm going to be there.
- 9:46Speaker 2: So I am going to be at this Woman on Fire gala this year in Atlanta.
- 9:51Speaker 2: It's probably going to air afterwards, but definitely let's connect and get some other people in here to do this Woman on Fire, because you know what Allison we are all Woman on Fire because we are doing it, and the good thing about it is that by March, being International Women's Month, we're honoring each other.
- 10:07Speaker 2: So I appreciate that.
- 10:09Speaker 2: But let me get back.
- 10:10Speaker 2: In fact, you already probably answered some of the questions that I was going to ask you.
- 10:13Speaker 2: But how important do you think networking is for collaboration and why?
- 10:20Speaker 3: Networking is important because it expands your network.
- 10:24Speaker 3: It expands your network.
- 10:26Speaker 3: The more networking you do, the more people.
- 10:29Speaker 3: You may not need somebody today, and I always tell people, don't discount people, you just learn about them.
- 10:35Speaker 3: When somebody says to me, oh, I do this, I always ask what else do you do?
- 10:39Speaker 3: Because you'll be surprised at the what else you get.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I get so much traction from what else people do.
- 10:47Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Sometimes it's not the thing that they showcase, it's not the thing that they talk about all the time.
- 10:52Speaker 3: All of a sudden you'll find out somebody has a passion for baking cakes, or they have a passion for comedy.
- 10:59Speaker 3: They host comedy shows, yeah, but it's nowhere out there.
- 11:03Speaker 3: They do this because the love of what they do.
- 11:06Speaker 3: And so when you start to really network, networking is not about giving a card and taking a card.
- 11:13Speaker 3: It really is not.
- 11:14Speaker 3: It's about creating relationships, rapport, learning about the person over a period of time.
- 11:22Speaker 3: It has to be massaged, not just grab and go.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Networking, building a network is creating a lead for your business to stand on.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Absolutely you need somebody to reach out to, to create those collaborations.
- 11:37Speaker 3: And we talk about collaboration.
- 11:38Speaker 3: What about the friendships that come out Because you're working together?
- 11:42Speaker 3: Collab means to come together.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 11:45Speaker 3: We're collaborating.
- 11:46Speaker 3: We make great friends along the way.
- 11:48Speaker 3: So after the business is done, you could have a great friend, a sister friend, right that you met?
- 11:55Speaker 3: Through what Collaboration?
- 11:57Speaker 3: Yes, the extended network.
- 12:00Speaker 3: What about those people who connect you because they know you?
- 12:04Speaker 3: I know Wanda is in Atlanta.
- 12:07Speaker 3: I know Wanda is with LegalShield.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Let me connect her to Marcia, who's looking for a LegalShield person.
- 12:13Speaker 3: But you don't even know Marcia.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Marcia will say oh, alison sent me to you.
- 12:19Speaker 3: She said you're a good person, you're a woman on fire.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I was a woman on fire two years ago.
- 12:23Speaker 3: It's all about the network.
- 12:25Speaker 3: But then when you meet Marcia, marcia says you know what?
- 12:29Speaker 3: I have a workshop where we're talking how to protect your business and all this stuff.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Would you be interested?
- 12:35Speaker 3: Could you be part of it?
- 12:36Speaker 2: Collaboration, how it happens, and that's the key to success.
- 12:40Speaker 2: That is so true.
- 12:40Speaker 2: That is so true, so let me ask you another question here.
- 12:44Speaker 2: So can you share an example and I think you already shared it A successful collaboration that emerged from networking connections?
- 12:51Speaker 3: Holy word.
- 12:53Speaker 2: A lot huh.
- 12:54Speaker 3: A lot Because I'm a networker.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I'm a true blue networker.
- 12:57Speaker 3: I believe in network all over the place.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I'm even inviting people to Trinidad to do Woman on Fire, a five-day retreat with the gala on the weekend.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Wow.
- 13:10Speaker 3: And this is a collaboration and it's happening in Trinidad and people are telling me yes, I want to come.
- 13:15Speaker 3: They're already putting up their hand.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Collaboration, you know what I mean.
- 13:19Speaker 3: But I'll tell you one that really was went beyond the box.
- 13:26Speaker 3: So I got invited to do Woman on Fire in Atlanta and at the time I had never been to Atlanta, never been, didn't know anybody in Atlanta.
- 13:36Speaker 3: And this girl sends me an email and said I love what you're doing.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Where in the States are you?
- 13:42Speaker 3: And I'm like I'm in Canada.
- 13:43Speaker 3: And she said we would love to have you in Atlanta.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I said but I don't know Atlanta, I've never even been like riddled with Atlanta, never done anything and I don't know about it.
- 13:55Speaker 3: She says I will help there.
- 13:57Speaker 3: So, and I do want to say Alison, just knowing Alison, and when I was honorary she actually came to my book launch.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I was so excited to have her come to my book launch when I launched my book in October.
- 14:23Speaker 2: For her to be here that meant so much to me and for her to actually say some of the things about me that just touched my heart.
- 14:30Speaker 2: So I appreciate that and that's what relationships come into play right Having a successful relationship and friendship.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So, wanda, we can't help it.
- 14:41Speaker 3: How's your family?
- 14:42Speaker 3: How's you going through this?
- 14:43Speaker 3: How is that?
- 14:44Speaker 3: We care?
- 14:45Speaker 3: I think the key factor in small businesses and building strong networks is the care factor.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Outside of the business is the care factor, and that's where even referrals come in, because as you get to know the person gets to know you, a friendship develops and know that person is even more in tune to you and what they can do to help you.
- 15:07Speaker 3: So from the time you hear something and say, oh, let me think about Wanda, let me think about Alison.
- 15:13Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I have people 10 years after Woman on Fire calling me, five years after calling me, it is because of the care.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that is shown during the exercise, whatever it was the care that was shown during that time.
- 15:29Speaker 3: I had a Zoom before and I was five minutes late for the Zoom and the lady said, oh, I've been waiting.
- 15:35Speaker 3: And I said you know what, I couldn't just put the person off the phone.
- 15:38Speaker 3: I told him I had another call but I had to tie it up.
- 15:41Speaker 3: So when I go I always leave 15 minutes.
- 15:44Speaker 3: So if you say two o'clock, I come on at five to two, but I'll give you 15 minutes grace, because I understand that the call before could have gone a little bit over, and it's okay.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Let us uphold each other, let us support each other.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Let us give each other grace.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Grace, exactly, and that happens to me all the time.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I guess I'm walking out the door, then I get a phone call.
- 16:08Speaker 3: It happens, are you running a little bit late.
- 16:11Speaker 3: You don't want to kick somebody off the phone, that's rude.
- 16:13Speaker 3: People come to you because they care.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Because I was talking to the girl and she said it's a little tough right now.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Money is tight and things like that, and I was just giving her a little bit of encouragement.
- 16:24Speaker 3: You know what I mean, so I couldn't listen.
- 16:25Speaker 3: But he tells you things are a little bit tough, you don't run off, we talk about mental health?
- 16:31Speaker 2: Why?
- 16:31Speaker 3: do?
- 16:31Speaker 3: I get testy with these things?
- 16:32Speaker 3: Because we talk it but we don't walk it.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 16:36Speaker 2: You're so right.
- 16:37Speaker 2: You're so right.
- 16:38Speaker 2: We're going to have to start rounding this down, girl, because I wanted to have you back on my show podcast, because we've got so much to talk about here.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Talk about, yes, definitely, but you actually have provided some great tips.
- 16:49Speaker 2: So I want to my last question to you and then we're going to talk about you and then your event Can you provide some tips for effective communication and relationship building within the professional networks, any kind of tips you may give?
- 17:00Speaker 2: A couple of?
- 17:01Speaker 3: A couple of tips for professional use.
- 17:03Speaker 3: I would say ask for help.
- 17:05Speaker 3: There are tools out there that can help people that other people know about.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Don't keep it to yourself share.
- 17:14Speaker 3: If you find something that works for you, share.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Like I was telling someone about chat gpt, use it, I use it yeah you don't know, learn.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Go on to youtube.
- 17:24Speaker 3: You let youtube.
- 17:26Speaker 3: This is one of the best tips I can give anybody.
- 17:27Speaker 3: You can plug just about anything into YouTube and it will change you.
- 17:34Speaker 3: You want to learn how to use Instagram?
- 17:36Speaker 3: Go on YouTube.
- 17:37Speaker 3: You want to post a photo?
- 17:38Speaker 3: Go to YouTube, just anything.
- 17:41Speaker 3: You want to use Hootsuite, you want to use AI?
- 17:43Speaker 3: So this is the tip Go to YouTube.
- 17:47Speaker 3: It's free, you can pause, you can go back to the beginning, you can start again.
- 17:51Speaker 3: You can pause, you can go back to the beginning, you can start again.
- 17:54Speaker 3: You can listen to that stuff a million times.
- 17:57Speaker 3: People don't talk about it, but I tell them.
- 17:59Speaker 3: If you want to learn something, instead of calling me 10 times, go to YouTube, put it.
- 18:04Speaker 3: How do I do a Zoom?
- 18:06Speaker 3: How do I save a Zoom?
- 18:07Speaker 3: How do I record a Zoom?
- 18:09Speaker 3: How do I upload a Zoom?
- 18:10Speaker 3: You can do all on YouTube without bugging anybody and the beautiful part without spending a penny.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I love that because that's a great tip.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I do that all the time I go on YouTube.
- 18:22Speaker 2: How do you do this?
- 18:23Speaker 2: I put a whole sentence in there.
- 18:25Speaker 2: How do you do this here?
- 18:25Speaker 2: But, speaking of YouTube, this is going to be on YouTube as well.
- 18:29Speaker 2: The podcast is going to be audio, and then our interview is going to be on YouTube too.
- 18:33Speaker 2: So make sure you go to YouTube to search for the podcast Ready set collaborate.
- 18:41Speaker 2: It's under WD, pearson, wdp, and they're going to be all on YouTube.
- 18:45Speaker 2: All of my podcasts live.
- 18:47Speaker 2: So that's why I like to do the live in audio, because audio people can listen to it when they're in the car, too.
- 18:52Speaker 2: You can look at it, then you can stop, and then let me go back to the one that Allison was talking about.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Let me go back to the one that Wanda was talking about.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So it's so important, but no, but thank you for that.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
- 19:01Speaker 2: That's the great tip, exactly.
- 19:03Speaker 2: So listen, tell us how people can get in touch with you.
- 19:09Speaker 3: They can always find me.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Women on Fire, atlanta Send me, there's a contact.
- 19:14Speaker 3: You just send me a message and I'm good.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I know a lot of people don't check, but I do.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Or you can catch me on Facebook.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I'm active on Facebook Women on Fire, not Women on Fire, actually under the Networking Diva.
- 19:26Speaker 3: So if you do facebookcom forward, slash the Networking Diva.
- 19:30Speaker 3: You'll find me on Facebook.
- 19:32Speaker 3: I'm on IG as well.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Woman on underscore fire.
- 19:36Speaker 3: So woman singular, w-o-m-n on O-N, all together underscore fire.
- 19:43Speaker 3: That's my IG as well.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Okay, that's great.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And if you can actually send me that too, when I, when this, comes live, I'm going to make sure I put all of that in there so people don't, because you know you can put, you can say something, then they put in other things.

- 20:12Speaker 2: But tell us a little bit about your gala that you have every year.
- 20:16Speaker 3: So the annual gala is where we recognize and honor females in business from anywhere on the globe, because we have a virtual platform attached to the live event.
- 20:28Speaker 3: And you know what I started last year because of Zoom to the live event.
- 20:32Speaker 3: And you know what I started last year because of Zoom.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Zoom allows us to get into any area where there's an internet connection and you have a Zoom link.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Those two things boom, you're in and you could be in Africa, you could be on any of the seven continents and you could be in the room.
- 20:43Speaker 3: And people came on to the Zoom and they stayed for hours.
- 20:47Speaker 3: I was impressed because I thought people would come on for half an hour and leave, but people loved it, they enjoyed it, they enjoyed listening to all the people talking and so on.
- 20:59Speaker 3: So the virtual platform has come to stay with Women on Fire.
- 21:01Speaker 3: My goal in the next eight years is to have one woman represented from every country in the world.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Wouldn't that be great?

- 21:09Speaker 3: That would be amazing.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yes, and that's global.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Global.
- 21:14Speaker 3: That's what we're talking about.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Global.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Wouldn't you love to meet a woman from Sierra Leone?
- 21:18Speaker 3: Yeah, a woman from Greece who has a business.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Yes, why not To exchange ideas to come from a different country.
- 21:27Speaker 3: That would be freaking amazing.
- 21:29Speaker 3: That's where our big vision is in the next eight years.
- 21:32Speaker 3: That people, not just one or two years eight years down the road, I'm already making all these plans.
