- 0:03Speaker 1: My father taught me many things.
- 0:05Speaker 2: You know what they say. He taught me, keep your
- 0:08Speaker 2: friends close, but your enemies close. Time to check in
- 0:12Speaker 2: on the team down south. They have done absolutely nothing wrong,
- 0:16Speaker 2: but they're blue. This is the Red and Blue on
- 0:18Speaker 2: the Sean O'Connell Show and Utah's number one sports talk,
- 0:22Speaker 2: ESPN 792.1 FM.
- 0:23Speaker 3: You are my enemy. You are my enemy.
- 0:24Speaker 2: You are my enemy.
- 0:26Speaker 4: This ends now. Time for a little red and blue
- 0:36Speaker 4: here on the Sean O'Connell Show. We check in on
- 0:39Speaker 4: the team down south with our good friend Jerem Jordan.
- 0:42Speaker 4: This conversation brought to you every week by Murdoch Ford
- 0:45Speaker 4: Santa Quinn. They've got some good things going on down
- 0:48Speaker 4: there right now, including $ 8, 000 off MSRP on the 2026
- 0:53Speaker 4: Super Duty trucks. If you're looking for an F-150 Lariat,
- 0:58Speaker 4: up to $ 10, 000 off.
- 1:00Speaker 2: MSRP.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Tell them OC sent you when you head down to
- 1:03Speaker 4: 985 West Summit Ridge Parkway in Santa Quinn. It is
- 1:07Speaker 4: worth the trip for that kind of savings. Jerem Jordan,
- 1:11Speaker 4: welcome to the show.
- 1:12Speaker 2: How are you, sir?
- 1:14Speaker 3: FCS wins are boring. On to the next ones. Very
- 1:19Speaker 3: excited about it. But it was good to be back
- 1:21Speaker 3: with 60,000 of my closest friends Saturday. So, yeah, I
- 1:24Speaker 3: can't wait. Utah's got a big game with the Razorbacks.
- 1:27Speaker 3: And Joey starts conference play with Arizona out of the gate.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 1:31Speaker 2: You know what makes FCS wins a lot more interesting?
- 1:34Speaker 4: When certain contingents of certain fan bases get into very
- 1:39Speaker 4: heated arguments about which FCS win is more impressive. I
- 1:46Speaker 4: am encouraged by the fact that rivalry talk is already
- 1:50Speaker 4: in full swing, and we're only in week one.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and we're going to have plenty of it leading
- 1:55Speaker 3: up to November 7th, which is great, so... Can't wait, man. Yeah,
- 1:59Speaker 3: I think everyone should be excited about everything. I mean,
- 2:02Speaker 3: it's great. High school football going. My 8-year-old's playing tackle
- 2:05Speaker 3: football for the first year. I'm the OC. We put
- 2:08Speaker 3: up four touchdowns, a season high on Saturday, and a
- 2:10Speaker 3: loss to Mountain View, you know, for a second-grade team. But, hey,
- 2:13Speaker 3: Daniel Sorensen's kid was on the other side. I was like, yeah,
- 2:15Speaker 3: I don't know if we can hang with those genetics. But, yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 3: I'm glad football's back, man. Seahawks play tomorrow. Niners play on, what, Friday, Thursday, whatever.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Who knows in Australia, but can't wait, man.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Let's talk about the positive and negative takeaways, if there
- 2:33Speaker 4: are any negatives, from a 63-7 victory for BYU. Bear Bachmeier,
- 2:39Speaker 4: clean game for him, 16-20, almost 200 yards, three touchdowns,
- 2:43Speaker 4: no interceptions. BYU ran the ball very effectively, 308 yards
- 2:49Speaker 4: on the ground, 213 yards through the air. What did
- 2:53Speaker 4: you like best out of what you saw?
- 2:56Speaker 3: Loved, yeah, how clean BYU was. Loved Legend Glasker. Scored
- 3:02Speaker 3: two touchdowns in the first two touches. Five touches, 18
- 3:05Speaker 3: a touch, three touchdowns among the five.
- 3:08Speaker 1: That was nice. He did it in different ways.
- 3:11Speaker 3: A jet sweep, a bubble screen, and then a deep ball.
- 3:14Speaker 1: And the dude can play, man.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Bessie Satake said in spring, hey, Legend's good. And we
- 3:18Speaker 3: were like, whoa, he's saying this about a true freshman.
- 3:21Speaker 3: I don't know how he was a three-star.
- 3:22Speaker 1: That's my biggest thing.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I was like, how is he a three-star? Like, this
- 3:25Speaker 3: dude plays like a four or five star. So, yeah, 6'1,
- 3:28Speaker 3: like 175, kind of fly guy, Isaiah Glasker's cousin.
- 3:31Speaker 1: He was awesome.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Very defensively, gets a pick on the first defensive snap
- 3:35Speaker 3: of the season. Trey Alexander, Evan Johnson had a pick. Later,
- 3:38Speaker 3: Matthias Leach, backup corner.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Had a pick.
- 3:41Speaker 3: So that was great. Like, LJ didn't find the end zone,
- 3:44Speaker 3: but he was almost eight yards per carry.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But one of the big.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Stories coming out was, you know, two injuries of notes.
- 3:50Speaker 3: In case you missed it, Raider Damuni got hurt, and
- 3:53Speaker 3: so did Sione Moa. Luckily, neither are as long as
- 3:57Speaker 3: maybe they thought, especially with Raider. They thought it might
- 4:00Speaker 3: be season-ending. Kelly Poppinga yesterday, BYU's defensive coordinator, said, hey,
- 4:04Speaker 3: maybe buy the Notre Dame game. So kind of giving
- 4:06Speaker 3: like a four- to six-week timeline there without the six
- 4:09Speaker 3: of the injury. Lower body, I guess. What is this, hockey?
- 4:12Speaker 3: And then Sione Moa, BYU's RB2, came out with an
- 4:15Speaker 3: apparent knee injury and Sounds like it's not as serious
- 4:18Speaker 3: with him, too. So maybe four to six weeks there,
- 4:21Speaker 3: it sounds like, potentially. So hopefully these guys can get
- 4:24Speaker 3: back as soon as humanly possible. Because Bureau does have
- 4:27Speaker 3: decent backups behind them. But you go into the season thinking, hey, Raiders,
- 4:31Speaker 3: you're starting strong safety there. And then Fiona Moas, Kenny Arby, too.
- 4:35Speaker 1: You're 1B.
- 4:36Speaker 3: So Fiona's been banged up each of the three years
- 4:39Speaker 3: she's been here.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So that's a bummer.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You can check. What do you expect against Arizona?
- 4:45Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:45Speaker 4: You hit the ground running now with a really important game.
- 4:49Speaker 4: I mean, Utah has got a much tougher matchup coming
- 4:52Speaker 4: off an FCS win than they had last week in Arkansas.
- 4:56Speaker 4: I think Arizona is a better team than Arkansas is.
- 4:59Speaker 4: And also this one means something. This one is a
- 5:02Speaker 4: conference game. This is what is against a conference opponent.
- 5:05Speaker 4: So it's, it's a big leap in week two. What
- 5:08Speaker 4: do you think it looks like for BYU?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's the third toughest game on BYU's
- 5:13Speaker 3: schedule to me. I'm seeing Notre Dame, I'm seeing that Utah,
- 5:16Speaker 3: and then I'm seeing Arizona. It's tough because, one, Arizona's good,
- 5:19Speaker 3: 9-1 team last year. They've turned the first team all
- 5:21Speaker 3: Big 12 quarterback, no FIDA. And then, two, it's a
- 5:24Speaker 3: conference game in week two, so the stakes are high. Frankly,
- 5:28Speaker 3: whoever loses this game probably won't make the Big 12
- 5:30Speaker 3: title game. because I believe that the two teams that
- 5:33Speaker 3: match up there will either be undefeated or have max
- 5:36Speaker 3: one loss. I don't think we'll have a two-loss team there.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Maybe we will.
- 5:39Speaker 3: You know, tiebreakers, who knows, but probably not. So you're
- 5:42Speaker 3: behind the eight ball out of the gate, and this
- 5:45Speaker 3: is a matchup that last year went to double OT.
- 5:47Speaker 3: BYU was down 10 with five minutes left and won
- 5:51Speaker 3: that game in double OT. That was miraculous. BYU had
- 5:53Speaker 3: to have some real good plays to come back in
- 5:57Speaker 3: that one. In fact, Bear Bachmar fumbled inside the 10
- 5:59Speaker 3: last year late in the game, And one of BYU's
- 6:02Speaker 3: offensive linemen, Kyle Soparcho, jumped on it. That was a
- 6:05Speaker 3: massive moment to save what ended up being a great
- 6:08Speaker 3: season for BYU. And so, yeah, it's huge. Arizona lost
- 6:14Speaker 3: four dudes to the NFL, three picks, from the secondary.
- 6:18Speaker 3: So Danny Gonzalez has those boys playing good defense. They
- 6:21Speaker 3: feel like they've replaced some of them. They got some
- 6:23Speaker 3: good portal dudes.
- 6:24Speaker 1: They've got a good.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Offense for you to get the ball out super quick.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Chris Hunter, Trey Spivey are some of the best wide
- 6:29Speaker 3: receivers in the league. So I, it's a very intriguing matchup.
- 6:32Speaker 3: It's the same thing it was two years ago. It's
- 6:34Speaker 3: on Fox middle of the afternoon. And yeah, I, I,
- 6:39Speaker 3: I can't wait for this. I think it's just a
- 6:40Speaker 3: huge game. Brett Brennan said some interesting comments yesterday about, Hey, yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Like what's, what's in 24 BYU did not, that crowd
- 6:50Speaker 3: did not affect us a ton. And so the BYU
- 6:52Speaker 3: fans are kind.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Of taken out personally.
- 6:54Speaker 3: So I think it'll be even louder than it normally is,
- 6:57Speaker 3: which is fun.
- 6:57Speaker 1: But Brett Brennan is a good dude.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Like he he's not like passive aggressive. I really enjoy
- 7:01Speaker 3: him and respect him. So I think it's going to
- 7:03Speaker 3: be a really good matchup and I think it could
- 7:05Speaker 3: be high scoring, but I do feel very confident in
- 7:07Speaker 3: BYU defense. I just think Cougars are going to be
- 7:10Speaker 3: able to run the ball, and they're going to pick
- 7:12Speaker 3: off Noah Fita. They'll get some fumbles. So I have
- 7:15Speaker 3: BYU winning by double digits in this one.
- 7:17Speaker 4: So I was going to ask you about the defense,
- 7:20Speaker 4: because obviously that is the big change for a team
- 7:23Speaker 4: that otherwise stayed relatively constant over the offseason.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Jay Hill is now in Michigan.
- 7:28Speaker 4: We'll get to that conversation in just a second. But
- 7:31Speaker 4: it's hard to judge, I think, even more what your
- 7:34Speaker 4: defense is against a Utah Tech than to judge what
- 7:37Speaker 4: your offense is, right? Because you can look and say,
- 7:39Speaker 4: all right, that's a clean execution of an orchestrated play
- 7:43Speaker 4: by an offense, and maybe it will be cleaner or
- 7:47Speaker 4: less clean if the competition is bigger, stronger, faster. But,
- 7:51Speaker 4: all right, we know what the offense is supposed to
- 7:54Speaker 4: look like. Defense, it's like... I mean, it's really hard
- 7:58Speaker 4: to figure out. We come away from Utah beating Idaho,
- 8:01Speaker 4: and a lot of folks are like, well, hold on
- 8:02Speaker 4: a minute. Idaho put a drive together, so that stinks.
- 8:06Speaker 4: But also, it didn't change the outcome of the game
- 8:09Speaker 4: in any way.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Also, what's this? Only one sack. And you're like, well, yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:14Speaker 4: You should have more sacks against an offensive line like that,
- 8:18Speaker 4: but neither BYU or Utah is able to do it.
- 8:20Speaker 4: So how are we grading out and judging these defensive
- 8:23Speaker 4: performances against you know, the inferior competition?
- 8:28Speaker 3: I think in modern football, especially with sacks, the ball
- 8:30Speaker 3: just comes out quick. Teams are just like, they're not
- 8:33Speaker 3: just five steps, seven step drop, giving you a chance
- 8:36Speaker 3: to really get out to the quarterback. And frankly, sometimes
- 8:40Speaker 3: that ball comes out, you don't get a sack and
- 8:42Speaker 3: then you pick off a pass. You had three picks.
- 8:44Speaker 3: I would say that was pretty good. And then they
- 8:46Speaker 3: forced the fumble as well and got one. So four
- 8:48Speaker 3: takeaways and less than 200 yards. That was the first
- 8:51Speaker 3: time since 96. BYU had one of those games. That's crazy.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Think of all the games, 30 years, under 200 yards,
- 8:59Speaker 3: four takeaways.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That was good.
- 9:01Speaker 3: So I thought it was very good. Yeah, like both
- 9:04Speaker 3: teams gave up on drive. Whatever, you got your two
- 9:06Speaker 3: and threes, and it's not big, doesn't it?
- 9:10Speaker 4: I was asking this question through the Utah lens relative
- 9:14Speaker 4: to what happened with Michigan. If you could get a mulligan,
- 9:17Speaker 4: you get one second back, you get to do a
- 9:19Speaker 4: game-deciding play over.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Any play in BYU football history.
- 9:25Speaker 4: We got some great responses from the listeners on the
- 9:28Speaker 4: Utah front.
- 9:29Speaker 2: What would that play be for BYU?
- 9:31Speaker 1: 2016 at Utah, two-point conversion.
- 9:35Speaker 3: So Jamal Williams gets hurt, and he's not in on
- 9:38Speaker 3: the play, and that really affected things. Just the fake
- 9:42Speaker 3: to whoever it was that was in for him, just
- 9:44Speaker 3: no one bit. And so just take some.
- 9:47Speaker 1: You know, one on two.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Would have loved sort of a different scenario there. Because, yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 3: and going for it, that was pretty aggressive. It's Kalani
- 9:55Speaker 3: Sitake's first season. It's on the road. It's early in
- 9:57Speaker 3: the year. What a love, like a better play call.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Don't hate, I guess the call. I just would take
- 10:03Speaker 3: some Hill would love to like get him in a
- 10:05Speaker 3: little more space there and opportunity.
- 10:06Speaker 1: To kind of get up and go.
- 10:07Speaker 3: But yeah, that's one that, you know, you can pick your,
- 10:10Speaker 3: pick your field goal.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Miss, I guess what 10 and 12 as well.
- 10:14Speaker 3: So Yeah, there are a few moments there. And there
- 10:20Speaker 3: are a few I would actually want to watch again.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I love the question I see. Different movie stars are like,
- 10:28Speaker 3: what movie do you wish you could watch for the
- 10:30Speaker 3: first time again? There are all kinds of plays on
- 10:33Speaker 3: both sides of this rivalry where you're like, oh, could
- 10:36Speaker 3: I watch that play for the first time again? I mean,
- 10:38Speaker 3: that was amazing.
- 10:39Speaker 4: It's interesting because you can find where a Utah fan's
- 10:44Speaker 4: priorities lie, whether they respond with something related to the
- 10:48Speaker 4: BYU rivalry or or something like a Rose Bowl or
- 10:51Speaker 4: a Pac-12 championship type play, right?
- 10:54Speaker 2: Because there's both of those on the Utah side of things.
- 10:58Speaker 4: I think that most BYU fans, it would primarily be
- 11:01Speaker 4: rivalry stuff.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I would think so. You know, there have been a
- 11:05Speaker 3: few moments there. You know, BYU-Notre Dame in 22, there
- 11:08Speaker 3: are a couple plays there where you feel like, hey,
- 11:10Speaker 3: it may go a different way, and it.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Could have been a different way. It came to me.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Okay, when BYU 2012 played at Notre Dame, that's the
- 11:17Speaker 3: big man title year. They're undefeated. There was a fourth
- 11:20Speaker 3: down where Riley Nelson has Cody hopping over the middle and.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Just doesn't see him.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Wide open. Wide open.
- 11:26Speaker 2: That's real tough.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Riley's my boy.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I love Riley. He's great.
- 11:29Speaker 3: But that one was tough. Like, if BYU had blown
- 11:34Speaker 3: up Notre Dame's season, that would have been one of
- 11:35Speaker 3: the biggest wins in program history. That would have been massive. So, yeah,
- 11:38Speaker 3: that's one, too, that I'm like, mm, that play.
- 11:41Speaker 4: I was at that game, and I grew up a
- 11:45Speaker 4: Notre Dame fan, and I'm in the press box biting
- 11:48Speaker 4: my tongue on everything because it was a lot closer
- 11:50Speaker 4: than it needed to be. And that play absolutely was,
- 11:55Speaker 4: if he hits that pass, game decider.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a big moment.
- 12:01Speaker 3: That was an interesting time, too, for BYU. It's like
- 12:05Speaker 3: second year of independents. trying to carve out, like, what
- 12:08Speaker 3: is this?
- 12:09Speaker 1: How does this work?
- 12:10Speaker 3: They get Notre Dame. They're there, and they compete really well.
- 12:14Speaker 3: There's a lot of NFL talent on that 12 team
- 12:16Speaker 3: for BYU. Taysom Hall, Jamal Williams, you know, a bunch
- 12:20Speaker 3: of guys on defense. Kyle Vannoy, Daniel Sorensen, and so
- 12:24Speaker 3: on and so forth, a bunch of backers.
- 12:26Speaker 1: They were right there.
- 12:27Speaker 3: That would have helped kind of validate, like, independence can
- 12:29Speaker 3: kind of work here, you know, and BYU never really
- 12:32Speaker 3: had that one year where it was like, Hey, they
- 12:34Speaker 3: did it. 2014 was kind of going to be that year,
- 12:36Speaker 3: but it didn't end up being it. And luckily, BYU
- 12:39Speaker 3: joined the Big 12 four years ago.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Let's talk about the national landscape.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Let's talk about one of the wildest, most controversial, most
- 12:48Speaker 4: insane things we have seen in recent history that obviously
- 12:52Speaker 4: has a lot of Utah ties. Western Michigan deserves to
- 12:57Speaker 4: win a game at the Big House against Michigan. It
- 13:00Speaker 4: would have been nearly on par with with an Appalachian
- 13:03Speaker 4: State upset, even though Western Michigan is a far better
- 13:07Speaker 4: team than App State and a far better program than
- 13:10Speaker 4: App State. But just the stage was set, and it
- 13:14Speaker 4: looked like time expired. And even if it hadn't expired,
- 13:19Speaker 4: that was, I mean, the final play of the game,
- 13:22Speaker 4: Bryce Underwood, who's supposed to be Mr. All-Everything, chucking that
- 13:25Speaker 4: one out of the back of the end zone was
- 13:26Speaker 4: just like, oh, my gosh. And then they review, and
- 13:29Speaker 4: they say, just kidding. The clock you see on TV
- 13:32Speaker 4: and in the stadium is not the real clock.
- 13:34Speaker 2: There's a second left. Let's do this again. What was
- 13:37Speaker 2: your reaction to that?
- 13:39Speaker 3: It made me upset for Western Michigan, honestly, because they
- 13:43Speaker 3: were robbed. We all know it. So we learned a
- 13:46Speaker 3: few things here. One, the officials in the stadium weren't
- 13:48Speaker 3: the one that made that decision. It was the replay center.
- 13:51Speaker 3: And then Mike Ferreira-Fox said, Hey, they said if anything's
- 13:55Speaker 3: in doubt, you've got to lean on the TV broadcast. Now,
- 13:58Speaker 3: let me give you a peek behind the curtain working
- 14:01Speaker 3: in television. That clock that they showed on TV in
- 14:04Speaker 3: the lower left, they put a camera pregame on the
- 14:08Speaker 3: scoreboard just in case the digital connection of their, like,
- 14:12Speaker 3: Fox scoreboard goes out. Every TV production does this.
- 14:16Speaker 1: It's a backup.
- 14:17Speaker 3: And you use that because you want to see what's
- 14:19Speaker 3: in the stadium. So that when they said, Oh, that
- 14:21Speaker 3: was not, that was the TV one.
- 14:23Speaker 1: No, it was not.
- 14:23Speaker 3: That was in the stadium. Like that's not correct. That
- 14:26Speaker 3: was in the stadium. So what they need to do
- 14:29Speaker 3: is put tents on there. Like we have in basketball.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Because I've seen multiple people record the video and time it.
- 14:36Speaker 3: And there would have been something like 0.6 seconds left. Well, okay.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Then we go, Oh yeah, that's 0.6 when he touched
- 14:42Speaker 3: it or whatever. We've seen multiple angles where it looked
- 14:44Speaker 3: like it was triple zeros, whatever. But if we had tense,
- 14:47Speaker 3: I think that would help. But yeah, just, it made
- 14:49Speaker 3: me really bothered that Western Michigan just got robbed by that.
- 14:53Speaker 3: They also could have defended that another hail Mary better.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Like that was up to them, but yeah, like Michigan
- 14:59Speaker 3: gets away with it and they dropped out of the
- 15:01Speaker 3: top 25. I think people acknowledge that it kind of
- 15:04Speaker 3: got something they didn't deserve there. So yeah, turmoil out
- 15:07Speaker 3: of the gates, you know, with all the Utah connected
- 15:10Speaker 3: guys and, You know, the Underwood A's are started, but
- 15:13Speaker 3: it's not infinite. It's like Utah fans have been here
- 15:15Speaker 3: before with the quarterback, right? So, yeah, it's all pretty
- 15:19Speaker 3: interesting to watch from a distance.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Is there any value from a conference perspective?
- 15:24Speaker 4: Like, Smith-Snowden was probably Michigan's best defensive player in that game,
- 15:29Speaker 4: which maybe wasn't saying much.
- 15:31Speaker 3: J.J.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Buchanan was definitely their best offensive player. In that game.
- 15:36Speaker 4: And as a conference, certainly for the University of Utah,
- 15:39Speaker 4: there's this insecurity. But as a conference, there's this insecurity like, oh,
- 15:43Speaker 4: our guys couldn't be as good at that level.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I looked at the most recent.
- 15:49Speaker 4: NFL mock draft has zero big 12 guys in the
- 15:52Speaker 4: first round.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And I don't think that's how it's going to play out, but.
- 15:55Speaker 4: There's this sort of like persistent disrespect for the level
- 15:58Speaker 4: of talent out here. And then you take those same
- 16:01Speaker 4: human beings, you put them in Michigan uniforms and they're
- 16:04Speaker 4: the best ones on that Michigan team. At least one
- 16:06Speaker 4: bad game by Michigan. Can we infer anything from that?
- 16:11Speaker 4: Should it be talked about someday? Cause it's not going
- 16:13Speaker 4: to be on the tails of that controversy.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think so. You know, when it's early
- 16:19Speaker 3: for the marks and whatnot, a lot can happen. No, yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 3: everyone's trying to, everyone's love language is somewhat of validation, right?
- 16:26Speaker 3: We all always, we all want to feel validated. Not really.
- 16:30Speaker 3: I mean, granted, like when Keelan Marion went to Miami,
- 16:33Speaker 3: we were like happy for him. Like, hey, that's awesome, man.
- 16:35Speaker 3: You had a great season, went to the national championship game.
- 16:38Speaker 3: That's great. But yeah, I am tired of the, oh yeah,
- 16:40Speaker 3: you just, they have certain colors and certain logos. Therefore
- 16:43Speaker 3: they're suddenly better. It's like, no, they're pretty similar player.
- 16:46Speaker 3: They just get a kind of a bigger spotlight.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Certainly.
- 16:49Speaker 3: But as it pertains to the NFL and the NFL draft,
- 16:53Speaker 3: that talent can come from just about anywhere. Does it
- 16:55Speaker 3: typically come more from the SEC and then the big 10? Well, sure.
- 16:58Speaker 3: But yeah, you gotta, you gotta just play well in
- 17:02Speaker 3: that spot and it can be kind of annoying. I'd
- 17:04Speaker 3: be why it feels like they get the disrespect and
- 17:06Speaker 3: recruiting rankings with that sometimes. So yeah, ultimately just, Recruit
- 17:12Speaker 3: guys that fit your program, win, and then everyone gets
- 17:15Speaker 3: rewarded in some way.
- 17:17Speaker 4: I think we finally– the AP has given us a
- 17:20Speaker 4: judgment on which FCS win was more impressive because Utah
- 17:25Speaker 4: moved up in the rankings and BYU moved down in
- 17:28Speaker 4: the rankings.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Therefore, yeah.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Spencer and I talked about this on BYU Sports Nation.
- 17:34Speaker 3: They were like, where do we think BYU is going
- 17:36Speaker 3: to be? And we both said– they're going to be 15.
- 17:39Speaker 3: They're going to reward USC for playing two games and
- 17:41Speaker 3: two group five, a group six team. So it's all good.
- 17:45Speaker 3: They're at 15, like keep winning. You'll be in a
- 17:47Speaker 3: decent position. If Arizona beats BYU, they should climb in
- 17:51Speaker 3: the top 25, but I do feel like, you know,
- 17:53Speaker 3: BYU is going to be there and, and Utah, you know,
- 17:57Speaker 3: up a spot, Houston up a spot, which I was
- 17:59Speaker 3: a little surprised by. They didn't look great against Oregon state.
- 18:03Speaker 3: And then Texas tech kind of hold serve. So, Yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 3: right there. So, yeah, LSU looked really good. I liked
- 18:11Speaker 3: Ole Miss getting the only ranked win in college football
- 18:13Speaker 3: so far. So, not a lot of movers and shakers.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Oregon penalized heavily for playing closely with Boise State. They
- 18:19Speaker 3: dropped four spots.
- 18:20Speaker 1: So, it's early.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I think it should be volatile early, honestly. Like, everything
- 18:25Speaker 3: should swing wildly early, and then as you get more
- 18:28Speaker 3: data points, you can kind of level that out.
- 18:30Speaker 2: 100%, because the initial rankings are– Pure guesses.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Yes.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Absolutely, we should get a lot of variance in these
- 18:39Speaker 2: first few weeks.
- 18:40Speaker 4: But just for all you Utah fans out there, the
- 18:43Speaker 4: tribe has spoken, and your win was better than BYU's win.
- 18:46Speaker 2: All right?
- 18:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and ignore the coach's focus. Who cares about that?
- 18:51Speaker 2: Jeremy, you're the man.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Enjoy this Arizona game. I'm looking forward to it myself,
- 18:55Speaker 4: and we'll chat again next week.
- 18:56Speaker 3: It's going to be a ton of fun. Yeah, and
- 18:58Speaker 3: Utah Arkansas will keep an eye on that as well. Thanks, Sean.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Appreciate it, man.
- 19:02Speaker 2: That's Jeremy Jordan.
