- 0:10Well, I hope that Spotify will allow me to play this just once.
- 0:15I I like to dig of it. It kind of reminds me of it,
- 0:17like punk sort of new wave stuff back in the 70s.
- 0:21Welcome to the latest edition of the Rancho Radio Podcast.
- 0:25Yeah, it's me, Jim Watkins. I hope you had a great week, and
- 0:28I hope you were able to celebrate Michael's birthday on
- 0:30the 21st, as we all did. I think I did a podcast where we
- 0:35got to talk a little bit about that.
- 0:37And the numbers keep growing on numbers of listeners.
- 0:40And I'm really thrilled because frankly, we are, I think,
- 0:44starting to head into a different period of humanity and
- 0:49it seems to be more and more evident.
- 0:50I, I could have decided that maybe the COVID # pandemic was a
- 0:56bit of a one off, you know, one of those periodic exclamation
- 1:01points on the pages of human history and that it could go
- 1:04away. But it's actually created its
- 1:07own new set of problems. One it is, it has struck a
- 1:12dagger into the global community.
- 1:16It have you ever like as an example, like if you
- 1:19accidentally step on an anthill and everything goes scattering,
- 1:23all the ants just scatter, right?
- 1:26And that's what sort of happened with the pandemic and, and the
- 1:29way the different countries were exercising their, their ability
- 1:35to govern. But it's also sort of spawned
- 1:38its own animal. And that is the, that these
- 1:41large corporations are really start starting to put an
- 1:46emphasis on controlling the narrative.
- 1:50And you know, these stockbrokers from these major companies, they
- 1:54never want to admit when they make mistakes, just like
- 1:57government officials don't want to admit when they make
- 2:00mistakes. But my goodness, if you look
- 2:03around at all the, the, the stuff that's going on in big
- 2:07cities, particularly with homelessness, and particularly
- 2:11with the way that people in, in these cities are, are turning
- 2:15into zombies before our eyes. It's strange.
- 2:18And it's unsettling really. And I want to explore a couple
- 2:25of things this time. I don't think we're going to
- 2:27read from any particular paper except for this.
- 2:30I, I want to, I lifted this clip and it's from page.
- 2:36Is it paper 190? It's the one-on-one O 7 or one
- 2:42of those on the social problems of religion.
- 2:45And I've read that section probably a dozen times in my
- 2:49life and, and every time I read from it, it's great.
- 2:53But it has some pointers as to why religion, in particular
- 2:59Christianity is, is challenged right now.
- 3:02It's challenged on a couple of different fronts. 1 is that you
- 3:07have a great population and governments that absolutely
- 3:13despise religion for a whole host of reasons.
- 3:17Some of it is just reaction through the Enlightenment and
- 3:20the age of so-called reason. And we've talked about science
- 3:25and how science is asserting itself as the final arbiter of
- 3:29truth and how it's become quite dogmatic.
- 3:33In fact, I make the argument in my pot on my book, which you can
- 3:38buy on Amazon if you go to my web page, which is your
- 3:41rancherradio.net and you can see it.
- 3:44It's called godlessness, how secularism is destroying
- 3:50civilization or society. And it's a quick read.
- 3:52It's maybe 60 pages, but it goes into depth about what's happened
- 3:59and a lot of it. If you're a Urantia book reader,
- 4:01you would really appreciate it because much of the motivation
- 4:05to writing that short book is based on paper 195 of the
- 4:11Urantia book and, and that period that we're going through
- 4:15in this post Christian era. And you can attach all kinds of
- 4:20things to it. You know, you know, it's hard
- 4:23not to get lost in the morass because there are a lot of
- 4:26Christians right now who, and I interview a lot of them and they
- 4:32talk about these for the end times.
- 4:34And what's happening in Israel is, is you know, they somebody
- 4:38told me go to Ezekiel 33 and to 38 and I did.
- 4:43And it talks about how Israel is being surrounded on all sides
- 4:47and how its destruction seems eminent.
- 4:51And Ezekiel is given this, this great vision of, of what's to
- 4:54come. But again, like a lot of things,
- 4:57especially Revelation, there are so many symbols and metaphors.
- 5:01It's really hard to extrapolate anything concrete.
- 5:05I mean, everything is up for interpretation.
- 5:07You can open up Revelation, Revelations and read all of it.
- 5:11And it's some of it seems like, Oh my God, that's happening
- 5:15right now. Oh, yeah, this is it.
- 5:18But then it's not concrete. At least the Urantia book
- 5:24provides a little bit of clarity.
- 5:25And it doesn't say that the Second Coming is right around
- 5:29the corner. It doesn't say that Jerusalem is
- 5:32going to come down. It doesn't.
- 5:34It may tends to lend itself to the idea that at any day
- 5:39Melchizedek could come or Jesus could come, or Adam and Eve may
- 5:44one day return. It's speculative, but I don't I,
- 5:49I think we're far, far away from that.
- 5:52The problems that we have today are problems that we kind of
- 5:55have to work out for, for ourselves.
- 6:00And this is what this particular section on that social problems
- 6:04of religion, I think it's paper one O 9, but let me read it to
- 6:09you and then we can discuss. Man's greatest spiritual
- 6:13jeopardy consists in partial progress, the predicament of
- 6:18unfinished growth, forsaking the evolutionary religions of fear
- 6:23without immediately grasping the revelatory religion of love.
- 6:28Modern science, particularly psychology, has weakened only
- 6:33those religions which are so largely dependent upon fear,
- 6:38superstition, and emotion. OK, so let's take a look at
- 6:43that. So the first section, the man's
- 6:45greatest spiritual jeopardy, consists in partial progress.
- 6:48What do they mean? OK, so when the Enlightenment
- 6:52period came, it suddenly released mankind from the chains
- 6:57of a very dogmatic religious institution, mainly the
- 7:01Christian or Catholic Church. They had control over everything
- 7:07that was going on. They controlled the kings
- 7:10because they did it mostly through fear.
- 7:13And these, these priests were very powerful and they were very
- 7:16frightening and they could cancel you in their own way by
- 7:22sending your ass off to purgatory, you know, or even
- 7:24worse, not being able to receive grace or salvation.
- 7:29This was what gave the church its power.
- 7:31So when science came along and started poking holes and
- 7:36explaining through the experimental method and
- 7:39scientific method why certain things happened, well, it
- 7:43started to eliminate the superstition and the fear that
- 7:49gave religion its strength. And that's the Enlightenment.
- 7:53And it even talks about how secularism in Paper 195 again,
- 7:58was a way of freeing man from the dogmatic control of
- 8:02religion. Now, what's happened today is
- 8:07that we've thrown out the baby with the bathwater.
- 8:09And I think that's what they mean, is that while we've been
- 8:13forsaking the evolutionary religions of time, the ones that
- 8:17are based on fear, the danger is the predicament of unfinished
- 8:23growth. So we've thrown out the religion
- 8:27of fear, but we have not captured the revelatory religion
- 8:32of love, which is that this is a grand universe.
- 8:36God is a real person, as Jesus tried to illustrate in his
- 8:41teachings and in his life, and that we we haven't grasped on to
- 8:48that next, you know, like when you're swinging through the
- 8:50jungle and you have a vine, We haven't grabbed on to that next
- 8:54forward evolutionary vine, that vine being the religion of love
- 9:00that would inspire us to treat each other like brothers.
- 9:04And in the Oranget book says, and so does the Bible, that
- 9:06there's you can't have brotherhood without fatherhood.
- 9:11All right. So it goes on to say the
- 9:13transition is always accompanied by confusion.
- 9:16And there will be a little, there'll be little tranquility
- 9:18in the religious world until the great struggle between the three
- 9:23contending philosophies of religion is ended.
- 9:27OK, so right now at play are three different ideologies.
- 9:32What are they? And they, they spell it out
- 9:34right here #1 the spiritistic belief in a providential deity
- 9:40of many religions and includes the many different factions of
- 9:45the Christian Church and the Catholic Church and all kinds of
- 9:49religions that all have a providential deity, Islam.
- 9:54OK, so now that that's the chief spiritual ideology providential
- 10:00the the variations of the same, but that they all have in common
- 10:04a providential deity #2 is an ideology that's now taking
- 10:10control, which is the humanistic and idealistic belief of many
- 10:14philosophies. And I would, I would term these
- 10:17like new age religions sort of fall into this group beliefs in,
- 10:22in, in alien life forms or some sort of, you know, we're not
- 10:26alone and we're going, we're, you know, and that's kind of
- 10:29similar to the Urantia book because the Urantia book very
- 10:31clearly states that we are for as a, for example, we're where
- 10:36your ranch is six O 6, which means in our system, there are
- 10:40605 worlds that evolved before we got here, out there somewhere
- 10:48in our local region of space. And we just haven't come in come
- 10:50into contact with them. But they're on an evolutionary
- 10:53path just as we are. They just might be further along
- 10:57than we are. All right.
- 10:59So that kind of falls into the humanistic or the idealistic
- 11:03belief of many philosophies. Gaia is another philosophy that
- 11:08is sort of dominated the New Age area.
- 11:13And then there's, of course, you know, you have to give it some
- 11:17nod that the whole transgender LGBTQ movement is its own sort
- 11:23of humanistic religion, and everything is around the
- 11:27centeredness of the human identity.
- 11:30Identity now is being fetishized, and it's become a
- 11:34religion of its own. And then, of course, there's the
- 11:37third, which is the mechanistic and naturalistic conceptions of
- 11:41many sciences. So therein lies the secularistic
- 11:44viewpoint, which is this is a mechanical universe.
- 11:48There was a Big Bang, and we're all here sort of on accident.
- 11:52There's no great purpose to it other than the fact of what we
- 11:55get out of it. And that's sort of the natural
- 11:57Law Group and the scientist, the nihilistic scientist.
- 12:02OK, so those are three ideologies that are all at
- 12:05battle with each other. They're fighting each other
- 12:07right now for dominance and in a in a country like China, they
- 12:12have adopted the third, the mechanistic and naturalistic
- 12:16conceptions, which is that the governments can do.
- 12:20It's governments are their job is to be the God of society to
- 12:26keep control. It's a very humanistic belief
- 12:30because it it erases any notion of there being an afterlife or
- 12:34anything like that. So these three sort of
- 12:38ideologies are are fighting each other.
- 12:41This is what the Urantia book says about this.
- 12:45And these three partial approaches to the reality of the
- 12:48cosmos must eventually become harmonized by the revelatory
- 12:53presentation of religion, philosophy, and cosmology, one
- 12:59that will portray the triune existence of spirit, mind, and
- 13:04energy proceeding from the Trinity of Paradise.
- 13:08Now, what does the Urantia Book teach?
- 13:10The Urantia Book teaches that religion is not concerned with
- 13:14science. Religion and science are not
- 13:17really at odds. Religion's only concern is the
- 13:20scientist, the enduring permeability of the human soul
- 13:25which has eternal ascension potential.
- 13:30Science can't prove why we would translate into a spirit form,
- 13:36but spirit drives mind. Mind is to spirit what
- 13:40materialism is to mind. Mind is a non material energy
- 13:46form. We don't know what makes mind
- 13:48work. I'll give you a fun example is
- 13:51this. I've got a dog and a cat, and
- 13:54often times they'll sit in the living room and they'll look at
- 13:56each other, but they don't even communicate.
- 13:59And I think that they're barely even recognizing the fact that
- 14:02the other exists. So their minds are not connected
- 14:06at all. But ours, our you're hearing my
- 14:10voice. I'm translating my thoughts into
- 14:13a language that you understand, and you're able to interpret
- 14:16that same language and it becomes your thoughts.
- 14:19And it even spurs you to have original spontaneous reactions
- 14:24to what I'm saying. So if I say to you, drop the red
- 14:28ball, boom, you already know that you can envision a red ball
- 14:32dropping. And that's the magic of mind.
- 14:35And that mind is the conjoint actor in in motion.
- 14:39The mind was, if you know the third person of deity, the
- 14:42conjoint actor. The infinite spirit is the same
- 14:46divine mind that permeates throughout the universe and
- 14:49makes it possible for all of us minded beings to be able to
- 14:53communicate with each other. And when Andon and Fonta were
- 15:00able to communicate with each other, that's when they were
- 15:02bestowed the spirit because at once the mind was able to
- 15:07connect with another human being.
- 15:09And they were. And not all animals can do that,
- 15:12but we did. That's what made U.S. special.
- 15:15And the Urantia book is telling us that we were endowed with
- 15:18mind once the physical apparatus was, and I use the analogy a lot
- 15:23of, of computers, you know, it's when you, when you look at the
- 15:27old Macs, they can't perform all the functions of today's Macs
- 15:32because they're in their infancy and they're not prepared to
- 15:36handle the, the more advanced methods and software that they
- 15:42have to run. So it's a slow, incremental
- 15:46evolutionary development of the mind where it finally reaches
- 15:50that threshold where it has spirit capacity.
- 15:55Now when Jesus taught us, and I'll, I'll kind of conclude it
- 15:59with this because I think with the social problems of religion,
- 16:03let me finish this thought. Jesus taught us that God was a
- 16:06person, that he was a loving person, that he was a loving
- 16:11father. Jesus believed that with his
- 16:14entire heart and he spent his entire life teaching people not
- 16:19about the anger God or not about this deity that sits on high and
- 16:24judges all of us for our moral misgivings.
- 16:27He pushed all that away. A lot of religions today, they
- 16:31still hang on to all of this stuff.
- 16:33They still hang on to original sin and and modern people are
- 16:38not going to accept it. They are no longer unless they
- 16:44just need the emotional support and they need to know that, you
- 16:48know, they, those things make them feel good.
- 16:50The emotion of religion, which is the feeling of, of receiving
- 16:54grace, for example. But you know, a lot of people,
- 16:58they don't get that they don't have, they don't know what that
- 17:00means. And not until they're in their
- 17:03darkest, most dire moment where they do, they come to that
- 17:07realization, which is sad because to me and to others, new
- 17:11religion to me is a philosophy of life of living in the moment.
- 17:15But knowing that that moment is part of a lot of different
- 17:19moments and they continue on and religion has has little appeal
- 17:26to people who don't like the shackles of fear and
- 17:30superstition and believing in miracles.
- 17:34I know atheists who many of the reasons they don't believe in
- 17:37the Christian Church because they don't believe in virgin
- 17:39birth. It's like you want me to believe
- 17:42in something that's against natural law in order to believe
- 17:47in something that's supposed to give me salvation.
- 17:50And let me tell you something that's a hard argument to make.
- 17:54The Urantia book writers specifically addressed this
- 17:57issue, saying that we we need to find the religion of love.
- 18:02What what is going to connect our species together And I
- 18:08believe that the answer is in my next topic, which I want to get
- 18:12into here. If you're still with me on this,
- 18:14and this has to do with what I call is new Christian thought.
- 18:20And I and I would I would I would say that in my thoughts
- 18:23about this, the Urantia book is 1/3 Testament.
- 18:30OK, and when I what do I mean by that 1/3 Testament?
- 18:36So the Old Testament followed by the New Testament.
- 18:42The the New Testament substantiated it.
- 18:45It concluded the journey of the Old Testament, the Old Testament
- 18:50containing Genesis and Exodus. You know, the early searchers of
- 18:55God, the prophets, the ones who held on to the message that the
- 19:01Urantia book tells us goes back to the first revelation, which
- 19:06was the arrival of the Nodites and the early beginnings of
- 19:12civilization before the Lucifer rebellion took everything out.
- 19:17So there was a period of early human history where man was
- 19:20given basic truths and basic instructions.
- 19:24And the people that lived in those eras that wrote things
- 19:28down, they were part of the Old Testament and it be and it
- 19:32became the foundation for the Hebrew faith.
- 19:36And the Hebrew faith carried the morsels of truth forward from
- 19:41the days of of the mighty men of old, the days that are in the
- 19:45fragmented pieces of the stories of Adam and Eve.
- 19:49Adam and Eve were the second revelation and it was included
- 19:54in the Old Testament. And that's when Adam and Eve
- 19:58learned that the Son of Man, the Creator's son, was going to be
- 20:02making a visit. And So what did Adam and Eve do
- 20:06is they perpetuated the story and it was carried down through
- 20:10all of the olden prophets. And they that made-up the the
- 20:15bulk of the Hebrew theology carried the truths that there
- 20:18would one day be a deliverer. And so they prophesied or
- 20:23prophesied that Jesus or the Son of man, the Son of God would
- 20:27come. And they got this information
- 20:30from Adam and Eve. And Adam and Eve were told in
- 20:32the Urantia book, it explains that Adam and Eve were informed
- 20:36that Christ had decided that this was going to be the world
- 20:39of his final bestowal. And so in the New Testament
- 20:47becomes the conclusion, the fulfillment of of what they had
- 20:52hoped for and what they were seeking in the Old Testament.
- 20:58And now the New Testament carries us forward 2000 years
- 21:03and the teachings of Jesus are under assault.
- 21:07The teachings of Jesus. If you profess a belief in Jesus
- 21:12in many parts of the world, you will be killed in a secular
- 21:16society. In the way that some of the laws
- 21:18are being written today, they're limiting or curtailing the
- 21:24Christian method. And in fact, many people
- 21:27actually believe that wearing a cross is considered hate speech.
- 21:34So this is how far we've come. So along comes this revelation
- 21:38in the early part of the 20th century, and it has the entire
- 21:42teachings of Jesus and a sort of the preamble to that, which is
- 21:49an announcement. And what's the announcement?
- 21:53The announcement is that you are not only loved and cherished by
- 21:58a loving and personal Father, but you are part of a grand
- 22:04universe that is filled with other civilizations that also
- 22:09worship the same Father. So what is the what is the point
- 22:15of all this? A new Christian thought and this
- 22:18is what I wanted to discuss. I share in my belief in the
- 22:24divinity of Jesus Christ with other Christians.
- 22:28There are a lot of things that I don't believe in the Bible that
- 22:31that some doctrinal differences if you will, but at its essence
- 22:37I believe that Jesus Christ is divine and was the Son of God
- 22:42and is the Son of man. I share that with my friends and
- 22:47I share that with my Christian brothers and sisters.
- 22:50What I also declare to be true because the Urantia book extends
- 22:54that view out. Not only is Jesus Christ the son
- 22:58of this world, but he is the son of millions of other worlds, 10
- 23:03million to be exact. Or at least one day that will be
- 23:06true when Nebadon has can completely grown out to its
- 23:11maximum potential of 10 million worlds.
- 23:14And that's why it's so special that the Urantia book says it's
- 23:16amazing that you should consider yourself quite fortunate, you
- 23:21people that live on Urantia, because not only did the Son of
- 23:25Man come to your world, but he had, you know, millions of other
- 23:29worlds that he could have gone to.
- 23:31But he chose your world because he believed that was the best
- 23:34place to exhibit God. But many Christians,
- 23:41particularly Christians who have grown tired of the
- 23:44ecclesiastical and dogmatic authority of the Christian
- 23:47Church, they feel like I want to get to know Jesus Christ, but it
- 23:52comes with all these other conditions if I want to do it
- 23:55through the traditional church or traditional orthodoxy.
- 24:00I think today's believer that has become disenchanted with
- 24:04materialism would love to know the idea that we're we're not
- 24:08alone, that that spirituality is not confined to just one little
- 24:13world. Didn't we are part of a greater,
- 24:16greater, fantastically wonderful exercise, which is the growth of
- 24:21the grand universe. Be you perfect, even as God is
- 24:24perfect, God is expanding outward and we get to be a part
- 24:29of that process. I think that the, that's a
- 24:31philosophy that you can carry with you, with you in your life.
- 24:37You're living for today, but you're also living for tomorrow.
- 24:41You're living for the future and you get to carry forward all,
- 24:44all of your valuable human experiences.
- 24:48I, I just can't imagine anybody wouldn't be thrilled by that.
- 24:53So I'll leave it there. And I, I, I, so I, I kind of
- 24:56want to title this as the, the third testament.
- 25:01What is the third Testament? And I truly believe that the
- 25:05Oranja book is giving us an answer on how we can save
- 25:10Christianity from becoming just a, you know, something that
- 25:15those people, you know, worship. And it loses its salt, and then
- 25:22it lies dormant until some future generation.
- 25:24And in the meantime, we're living in the dark ages again,
- 25:30materialism and totalitarianism and all the other tyranny.
- 25:34Anyway, it's a dangerous world out there, and I hope that I've
- 25:36inspired you at least a little bit.
