- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: And we're back.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: I'm Truman.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: And I'm Dizzy.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: And this is Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: On today's episode, we watched two episodes of Dragon Ball.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: Episode 127 and 128 in particular, titled Quicker Than Lightning and Secret of the Woods.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Quicker Than Lightning came out in Japan on September 21st, 1988, and October 14th, 2003.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Whereas uh the Secret of the Woods came out September 28th, 1988, and October 15th, 2003.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Some differences from manga and trivia is number one, for the first episode, the entire events of this episode are exclusive to the anime.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Um and trivia, Pippy the Bird is a fem is female in the Blue Water dub with a male in the Funimation dub.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Um in the Blue Water dub, Chu Lee has her name changed to Julie.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: And then in one of the games, um one of the games, I think is Dragon.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: It says Dragon Ball Z Dokan Battle.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Popo has an attack called Faster Than Lightning, which is a direct translation of this episode's Japanese name.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: So that's just some fun trivia.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Uh jumping into the second episode, differences and trivia.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Wholly exclusive to the anime.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: I think we could both kind of tell a bit on that, but um Yao Chun had a voice filter effect in the Engl original English version, but the remaster removed the filter.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Honestly, probably a good idea.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: And in the Japanese version, Roshi tells them that he'll they'll never reach Goku's level and yells at them for doing the same training routine together each day.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Unlike Goku, who continued his journey alone.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: In the English, um he just tells them about an unrelated story about a girl when he was young, kinda rambles and doesn't ever actually tell them anything.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Um, but that's all we have as far as trivia and differences.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Like there really isn't much in these episodes, but that's beside the case, because previously on Dragon Ball, Goku is continuing his training, or starting his training, matter how you look at it, uh, back up on the top of the lookout.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Popo is teaching him to set still and breathe and listen a bit, and he's able to avoid a walnut after a little bit of practice, and then he's able to fail at catching a cat bell because he's not able to see them, but also not able to hear them.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: And then Mr.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Popo's like, hmm, or Goku's like, hey, didn't you say he trained you a different way?
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Can we train that way?
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: And Mr.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Popo's like, hmm, I guess we could try that.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And so he gets sent back, or he gets sent to a different area, um, has to climb a tower to put on a crown, which then makes lightning come at him, and he's trying to learn to be quicker than lightning.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Then the second episode, he goes into the woods and is supposed to learn the secret of the woods, and meets a family of dessert-themed characters, goes and fights somebody who's not really that strong, and then sits and relaxes a bit.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, like Mr.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Popo and Kamehair, or Kamehare just kind of watching, like, is he is anything is he gonna learn the lesson, basically?
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, though, in the B plot, uh, we have R uh Roshi and uh Oolong Perv moment in the first episode, followed by some training and some discouraging talk from Mouse to Roshi in the second episode.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: And that's what you missed on Dragon Ball, Jesse, go for it.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: I'm not tired like nor do I like the boo doo boo-do-b- Now that I think about it, as as I can't remember how to speak English, uh now that I think about it, it's pretty obvious that these are filler episodes.
- 3:46SPEAKER_05: I even brought it up like right before we press record that this is the first two episodes so far of this arc that we haven't flashed back to Piccolo Jr., and that might be because these are all filler, they had no reason to flash back to them.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Well, also remember a lot of times when we flash back to Piccolo, they even said like this is new, or this was added or changed drastically.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Like, is it it's almost as if like Piccolo Jr.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: in these little areas also has been added.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, since we're adding, we can't add on top of an addition, so let's just add the original, or let's just add our our main character, but let's not do anything with the side with the villain, yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_05: Uh but for Austin's purposes, these are fun episodes, they're enjoyable.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: They're kind of uh I I tie them up to the training arc before the TN saga.
- 4:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, which was if you remember, I'm pretty sure all of those episodes were filler as well.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Pretty much I think they at one point they said that they were there were I think the last one, the one with the cat and everything, they said that one wasn't complete filler, there were parts of it that were connected, but very loosely kind of.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: But yeah, the rest of them were all fully filler.
- 4:53SPEAKER_05: So we're in for a couple more episodes of fill through, I'm presuming.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: I'm guessing, like, just because of the way manga is written, that they they just don't have time to relax in the in this moment.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Like the deadlines are deadlining, and you gotta get this stuff out because you already have plans for your next book that's coming out soon.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: And so you gotta, you just gotta jump through and get to the next part.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: It's almost like he goes up to the top of the tower, he says that they say he's gonna be training there for three years, the next book comes out, and three years have passed is kind of the and three years have passed, and you might flash through like a scene here or there of like I learned this and I learned that.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:36SPEAKER_05: But now when you have an anime for him, and there's not as hard of deadlines, and it's it's easier to explore possible training arcs.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel like animation studios are a little, especially in the 80s and the 90s, were a little more lenient to allow you to have these like one-off type of episodes where it's like you're allowed to breathe a little bit.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: And so these episodes are good.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: They're they and they like they're not great.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: They're not like, oh my gosh, every time I'm watching Dragon Ball, I gotta go back and watch Quicker Than Lightning.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: That's maybe my favorite episode.
- 6:08SPEAKER_05: They're no one's favorite episode, but they're they're a fun first, like one-time watch, figure it out, you're good.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: And if you're binging it, they're not ones that you're like, oh, they're not, oh okay, well, we can skip, we can turn off, we can jump 20 minutes.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Or like you're dreading it.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_05: Like some of the episodes like this that we've talked about previously.
- 6:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:26SPEAKER_05: It's fun.
- 6:27SPEAKER_05: You had fun watching it.
- 6:28SPEAKER_05: It was awesome.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're they're pretty good episodes.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Uh again, they're not blowing anybody's brains off.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: But, anyways, Jesse, if you want to jump into these episodes, uh, we could go B plot first or A plot first.
- 6:40SPEAKER_05: Uh, let's just get Roshi and them out of the way.
- 6:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:42SPEAKER_05: Because they're what, maybe three minutes total.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Almost completely unmemorable.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Um, Roshiperv moment.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Uh the the when I said that in the recap, what I was pointing to was Pu'ar was supposed to be putting Sunblock on uh Bulma, but Oolong knocks knocks Puar out of the way to do it, and then Roshi knocks Oolong out of the way to do it.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: And then Long gets angry and starts shooting Roshi.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: And that's basically it.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: We also get a look, like a look over at the boys they're all training.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're training.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: And they're sparring it together and everything.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: And that's it.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Second episode, uh, we jump back to them again training, and they're like, man, we're getting strong.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: We'll be able to catch up with them in no time.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: And Roshi's like, and what and your dreams.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: The Dragon Balls couldn't give you the boost to catch up to it.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: What are you talking about?
- 7:28SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna be real honest with you, boys.
- 7:30SPEAKER_05: Y'all are good.
- 7:31SPEAKER_05: It's Goku versus someone else who shows up as strong as Goku.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: And honestly, because I don't think either none of us know who Piccolo Jr.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: is, Roshi really doesn't think Goku's not gonna win this tournament.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's like, this is pretty much guaranteed that Goku's gonna win this tournament.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Like, I like your guys' enthusiasm.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: But you look you'll be the first to die.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: You're all playing for th second to third place.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_05: This is it's uh like that video game quote, like what when the when the bad guy starts screaming as I'm walking up to the base, it's like, I like your enthusiasm, I'll shoot you last.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: It's like it really is that yeah, you guys you guys are really lining up to see who comes second.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: And that that is kind of and then they're like, well, you know what?
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Screw you, Master Roshi.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: We're gonna train the same way, but even harder.
- 8:19SPEAKER_05: And he's like, you know, I once you know tried to date a girl in a book club before.
- 8:24SPEAKER_05: Thanks, Roshi, that means nothing.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: That that's so helpful while metal.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: What a you know, what an uplifting story.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: Anyways, get off your lazy butt and train these kids.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:42SPEAKER_05: It really like what's what I find so funny about when they flashback to like Roshi and them is episode one, it's like, oh, we gotta, we gotta get a perv moment.
- 8:52SPEAKER_05: And then episode two is we have to meet our quota of having them on screen for at least a minute and a half.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like Roshi's been back at this point, like as far as I'm so excited to see them on the screen.
- 9:05SPEAKER_05: We have to at least show them sometimes.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's like for me, it's like Roshi has been like when the first episode perv moment happens, Roshi has been seen on screen less than four minutes and has made two perv attempts in four minutes.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's pretty good time, pretty good time for him, like pretty good like uh r uh ratio there.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: He's getting that quota up.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: He's like, I've been deaf for ten episodes.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: I gotta get my numbers up.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: It's murky numbers.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: No more rookie numbers, you gotta pump them things up.
- 9:33SPEAKER_05: But if there's any parts of these episodes that are just like you can just fast forward.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: Well, you don't even have to fast forward them.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: You can just go grab something out of the fridge, which I think you did both times, they popped up on screen.
- 9:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I went to grab like a water bottle or something.
- 9:49SPEAKER_05: Incidentally, like I started to do it and then they popped up on screen, and I got back like after as the like scene is changing.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it it literally didn't miss anything.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: The only thing I have of note from it is, of course, uh Roshi Perve moment.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: And then I had to I had to pause and go back because there was a screw there was a uh a spot where right as uh launch is trying to starting to shoot at Roshi where his eyes, like his full eyes, are able to be seen through his son.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:17SPEAKER_05: And like they're like freaking out because he's about to try to kill him.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: But that's that's literally pretty much it as far as the B plot.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: So we can move on to the A plot.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: And Jesse, let's let you start the recap a bit, and let's let you talk through us play by play, what you want to talk about.
- 10:33SPEAKER_05: So, yeah, I mean the A-plot is is fun.
- 10:36SPEAKER_05: Like it's the reason to watch these episodes is watching Goku and Popo, especially in the first episode, really interact with each other.
- 10:44SPEAKER_05: You know, Goku's trying to learn how to be a rock, but he sucks at being a rock because he's not a rock.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Goku's final challenge is like the the worst test for him.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Sitting still.
- 10:55SPEAKER_05: Setting still and not talking.
- 10:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Set down and shut up the episode.
- 11:01SPEAKER_05: Like it's like Goku has ADHD because he he's not shutting up.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: He's like, how about uh he's like, well, at least like rocks have plenty of time to think, so let me think real quick.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: It's like I'm not supposed to think, oh no, what am I supposed to do?
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: I wonder what the color of the sky is on other planets.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: I oh, I wonder if Krillin and them are back.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: I hope they are.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: I wonder if TN's getting stronger.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then he just gets hit and he's like, ow!
- 11:28SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, rocks aren't supposed to think.
- 11:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:31SPEAKER_04: This is really boring like complaining about it.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: But then he does get it for a second.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: He's able to like sense through the air without like thinking and just move out of the way of the Popo's like, mmm.
- 11:43SPEAKER_05: And he kind of raises his eyebrows, like, oh hey, you're figuring it out.
- 11:47SPEAKER_05: He's like, you know what we're gonna do now?
- 11:48SPEAKER_05: You're gonna chase this cat with a bell on its tail, but you're gonna chase it with a blindfold on.
- 11:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, Popo has a second bell.
- 11:56SPEAKER_05: He's ringing it, and oh, there it goes.
- 11:58SPEAKER_05: Goku's confused again.
- 12:00SPEAKER_05: And then he accuses Popo of cheating once he figures it out.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is like, I mean, yeah, technically from the task given, he is cheating, but just but it's uh it's almost like there's no rule that says a dog can't play basketball.
- 12:12SPEAKER_05: It's also almost like the fact that he's ringing another bell is what you're supposed to be learning about and learning from.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: But like it like from it's Goku.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: In Goku's in Goku's I d uh brain, it is the the point is I'm supposed to catch the cat with the bell.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: If you ring another bell, it makes the catching the cat not able to happen, therefore you've broken the rules of the game.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: But for Mr.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: Popo, he's like, that's the whole point, you freaking idiot child.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Also, I never said I wasn't gonna ring a bell.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: I just said the cat was gonna have a bell, and there's no rules that says I can't have a bell.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: So I didn't cheat, you stupid child.
- 12:49SPEAKER_05: Is like it really is so obvious, like Goku asking to train like how Popo was trained by uh Kami is the moment where Goku can actually start to learn things.
- 13:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 13:02SPEAKER_05: Because the way because then they go in and they go train with Kami.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Well, before we get there, because the the main reason is that Mr.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Popo has gives them half answers.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: And like in a like in a matter of speaking type answers to the questions that he's asking.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: And it's like, you can't be roundabout with Goku.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: He doesn't have to be very direct.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: He is a very he's a straight line when it comes to thinking.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: If you are like, yeah, some and he's gonna he's not gonna figure it out.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: It's like you should know this you saw when he was training with Corrin.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Like when he when he he when Corrin told him how to figure it out or told him what to do, he's like, that doesn't make any sense.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: But then he hears Roshi explain it in a different way.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: He's like, oh, that makes perfect sense, you know.
- 13:43SPEAKER_05: Like Roche is every master Goku's had so far in the show, you bring up a great point, has had to go through an arc of realizing I can't be too intellectual with this kid.
- 13:55SPEAKER_05: I have to dumb, I have to explain it like he's five.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Because as far as we know, he basically like if you take out the years before meeting Bulma out, because it doesn't seem like he learned much of anything.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Barely enough to like to survive and to fight a little bit.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Outside of that, he didn't really learn anything.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: It doesn't seem like Grandpa Gohan was like teaching him anything, really.
- 14:15SPEAKER_05: And also who knows how long he'd been dead since when Bulma found him.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: But if you take those out, it's been about five years since he was found by Bulma originally at this point.
- 14:24SPEAKER_05: So on the theoretical side, he's maybe six or seven at most.
- 14:28SPEAKER_05: I know everybody, everybody, dude would be me.
- 14:32SPEAKER_05: But it's like, so of course you have to be very simple with him.
- 14:38SPEAKER_05: But it's just like it I I do know for a fact that like he doesn't really get much smarter.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: But like for the thing with it is that po like, yes, but also like Popo is Popo get is getting frustrated with him, and like, you know, a couple episodes ago, like straight up was like, Leave, you're not smart enough to understand this.
- 14:58SPEAKER_05: Like you're too stupid, I can't train you.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's like it feels like it feels like Mr.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Popo is also like, This is this kid's an idiot.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Why are we why are we gonna entrust the the guardianship of the entire planet to this dummy?
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: And Kami can see through it, Kami can understand.
- 15:14SPEAKER_05: Like, he he understands, like, no, this kid's like a prodigy.
- 15:19SPEAKER_05: He is built to do everything we want him to do.
- 15:22SPEAKER_05: The problem is how we are teaching it.
- 15:24SPEAKER_05: He's a very literal person.
- 15:25SPEAKER_05: So what do you do with a literal person?
- 15:27SPEAKER_05: You give them hands-on training.
- 15:29SPEAKER_05: So that's what they're doing.
- 15:30SPEAKER_05: Like, like he figures out the lightning strike thing.
- 15:33SPEAKER_05: He also, you know, is still a kid and he celebrates and then gets struck by lightning.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: But he basically he by the end of the first episode, he is quicker than lightning.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Just because he had one interaction with a child who was able to explain it to him in a way that he could understand.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: In a child-like way.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I can just I can sense the flapping, or I can hear the chirping from a really long ways away.
- 15:52SPEAKER_05: It's like I focus, I'm so focused on getting the bird bag.
- 15:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 15:56SPEAKER_05: Which we're skipping a lot of plot relevance.
- 15:59SPEAKER_05: But like that, that's the whole thing, is it's like he needs he needs that like it it's it's insulting to say because Popo does seem like a genuinely like good teacher for anyone that's not named and whose brain works like Goku.
- 16:13SPEAKER_05: Like if your brain works like Goku, Popo is maybe like the worst.
- 16:19SPEAKER_05: But for anyone with like Yeah, monicum of intelligence.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: You drop Krillin up there, Krillin, Tien, Yamsha, any of the things.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Even Chiatsu.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like and Chiatsu's pretty Chelsea's pretty dumb too, but I feel like Chiyatsu would understand the the point.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Chiatsu might have to do it, but Chiatsu would be able to understand what he's supposed to be doing.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: He would just fail at it.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like you drop Roshi up there, Roshi's gonna be able to figure it out.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Like any of the other characters that we know, basically, you could drop up there, and they'd be like, Oh yeah, I get what you're trying to teach me.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: I I might not be able to master this this concept or very quickly it matters, but like I can understand the concept.
- 16:55SPEAKER_05: I know what I need to do.
- 16:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I can also I also have the intelligence to understand that it's impossible for me at my physical capabilities.
- 17:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it's just like Goku has the capabilities, and that's why that's why like when when when he asks to do it the way like because after the everything the cat bell fails, he brings up like, hey, didn't you say Kami taught you differently?
- 17:14SPEAKER_05: Can we do it his way?
- 17:16SPEAKER_05: And Popo's like, I don't know, it's gonna hurt a lot, it's gonna suck, you know, it's gonna it's gonna hurt more than dying.
- 17:22SPEAKER_05: And Goku's like, oh, I'll do it anyways.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: It's like it's better than not getting it.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: That's kind of where Goku's at.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Like Goku doesn't say it, but it's almost like I'm obvious- he it's almost like he can realize he's like, I'm not getting it from you.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Maybe if I try a different way, I might be able to learn what the heck you're doing.
- 17:38SPEAKER_05: Maybe maybe the way Kami teaches is better.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe Kami can teach me better.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe you just suck as a teacher for me.
- 17:44SPEAKER_05: Like, no disrespect, you're great, but like Popo, Popo, awesome character, love the guy.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he is horrible at teaching Goku.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he is the worst teacher in particular for Goku.
- 17:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 17:56SPEAKER_05: Proud Goku's brain works, it just doesn't work.
- 17:58SPEAKER_05: And so, you know, they end up gonna go in, and they're like, This is a teleporter.
- 18:02SPEAKER_05: We're gonna teleport you to this place, and you're gonna climb a mountain, and then at the top of the mountain there's a crown, and you're gonna put the crown on.
- 18:07SPEAKER_05: And Goku's like, that seems really easy.
- 18:09SPEAKER_05: And then as and then like he gets there, he climbs the mountain.
- 18:12SPEAKER_05: He meets the girl with the bird, she's trying to find the bird, the bird's gone.
- 18:15SPEAKER_05: She's like, ah, Goku.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: He points her.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Or she points him to the mountain.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: He's like, Oh, great, easy.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Let's climb the mountain.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, there's no monsters up here.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Gets to the top.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Well, this is even easier than I thought.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: There are no monsters.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Puts it on, it gets stuck to his head.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: And then he has to run from lightning.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: But obviously, the first time he tries it, he completely fails because he doesn't understand how to do it.
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: And he falls off the mountain, and the girl finds him, takes him home, nurses him up to health.
- 18:41SPEAKER_05: That's what he learned.
- 18:42SPEAKER_05: Classic Goku.
- 18:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, classic Goku thing.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: He almost dies, girl finds him, nurses him back, they fall in love, then he leaves to go finish his work.
- 18:50SPEAKER_05: She teaches him the lesson he's been trying to learn the entire episode about well, you have you know you have to focus on and like feel it coming.
- 18:57SPEAKER_05: You can't just focus on one sense.
- 18:59SPEAKER_05: You have to use all your senses at the same time to really focus on getting this thing.
- 19:04SPEAKER_05: And he's like, oh, that makes sense.
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: And he goes up there and he dodges the lightning bolt, and then he celebrates, and another lightning bolt gets him and knocks him out.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he's out for five days.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Three days.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Three days, sorry.
- 19:13SPEAKER_05: He's out for three days because he wakes back up and Popo's standing over him in the next episode.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: He's like, Oh, you're awake.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: And then Popo's like, gone for three days.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: You've been asleep for three days.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: You gave us quite a scare.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Anyways, can I do more?
- 19:28SPEAKER_05: And we're like, okay.
- 19:29SPEAKER_05: And then he sends them to the woods in the second episode.
- 19:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:33SPEAKER_05: Where he's supposed to meet someone in the woods.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's all that they've said.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: He's like, is it somebody I'm about to fight?
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Is it and they're like, I can't tell you anymore.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Which is honestly, it's probably for the best because if Goku knew that he's just supposed to meet an old man that's gonna teach him something, he would have not learned the lesson.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: He had to be he had to win but not win to learn the lesson that he needed to learn.
- 19:57SPEAKER_05: He's too boneheaded.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's like, obviously, I'm training to get stronger.
- 20:05SPEAKER_05: That's also a thing with Goku, yeah, is like he's really good at accidentally learning something because of his mannerisms and attitude and just how nice and genuine of a person he is.
- 20:17SPEAKER_05: He's really good at making connections.
- 20:19SPEAKER_05: And what he needed to learn was getting a connection and making a connection with this older guy.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: But we'll get there in a little bit.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: So he goes through the woods and he falls in some mud immediately and has to like a muddy, swampy, pompy pond thing.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: And the reason this is important is because he has to command man out of it, which then drains a lot of his energy, so he is hungry.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: We can also presume he hasn't eaten at least three days because we didn't see him eat any food before he went in there.
- 20:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we did we also didn't see some sort of like, you know, like food, yeah, food delivery tube.
- 20:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Um so he's like, man, I'm really hungry.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: And so he like stumbles around and falls into a like a trap that this uh man has set trying to grab the steak or whatever.
- 21:06SPEAKER_05: Well, we should create he's also his naked because he's blocked off in upstream or whatever.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: I also wrote that down.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: It wouldn't be a Goku training arc without a naked Goku.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: See, I think we're three for three on Goku training arcs where he ends up naked at the end.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: For at least another couple minutes or something.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:22SPEAKER_05: Well, this one this one kind of, you know, he cleaned his clothes off and himself.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: But he could have put his clothes back on.
- 21:27SPEAKER_05: He could have waited to try the clothes off.
- 21:29SPEAKER_05: But he's so hungry he couldn't wait.
- 21:31SPEAKER_05: Because I think like the what they're trying to point they're trying to make or whatever.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so he stumbles along and smells food, runs over, gets in gets stuck in like a an animal trap, and then breaks out of it almost immediately.
- 21:43SPEAKER_05: And tells the dude, tells like the hunter that like that was rude.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: I just wanted the food.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: And then he goes inside and gets food.
- 21:50SPEAKER_05: And we meet the dessert family, as I'm lovingly calling them.
- 21:53SPEAKER_05: The desserts I didn't write all their names down.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: But it was like cupcake, cookie, well, there's like eight kids.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: I know uh Jelly Jam.
- 22:02SPEAKER_05: I forget the guy's name.
- 22:04SPEAKER_05: Oh, the guy's name, the the dad's name is Moose.
- 22:06SPEAKER_05: Mom's name is Eclair.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: You had cupcake, cookie, I think muffin, cocoa, cocoa, jelly, jelly and jam.
- 22:14SPEAKER_05: Worked with twin girls.
- 22:16SPEAKER_05: Crepe.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Crepe, yeah.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: Donut.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: Donut.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: And then there was the one that we had to search because it was like, this is this is too on the nose for it not to be something.
- 22:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Caranton or Caranton.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to look it up.
- 22:29SPEAKER_05: It's some, which is a Japanese dessert dish.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: It kind of looked like a pretzel stick, but it obviously wasn't a pretzel stick because it wasn't anything else.
- 22:38SPEAKER_05: Never thing of maybe trying to fix it one of these things if we find a recipe.
- 22:40SPEAKER_05: Because it doesn't seem like it'd be hard to make.
- 22:43SPEAKER_05: You just need the sweet stuff and then you put the it's kind of it looks like it's probably kind of like a fried.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: It's almost like a crate from the way they were explaining it in a way.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Like obviously different, but in the same classification in my brain as you coat it with different things.
- 22:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_05: Traditionally it was brown sugar.
- 22:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: But you can also put like you could also make like a powdered donut on it.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: You can dip it into some chocolate.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean is it's like an open, it's a it's an open vessel.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: It's a sweet treat.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: It's a sweet treat that you can put anything on.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: A canvas, basically, which is what crepes are.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: It's honestly kind of what donuts are.
- 23:20SPEAKER_05: Like it's in it's it's a Japanese dessert as well.
- 23:22SPEAKER_05: We didn't recognize it immediately.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: But uh as soon as I heard it, Jesse was like, oh, of course his name doesn't go in the skin.
- 23:28SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, Jesse, and then like as I said that, I started a Google it, so like actually it probably is something.
- 23:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 23:34SPEAKER_05: And then you you pulled the Google Google up before I did.
- 23:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like, yep, yeah, it is a thing.
- 23:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 23:40SPEAKER_05: Japanese, which makes sense, you know, you're watching a Japanese show, of course, they're gonna have someone named after a Japanese delegate.
- 23:44SPEAKER_05: Because at first when I heard Moose and Eclair, I was like, is this gonna be like a French dessert family?
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:48SPEAKER_05: And then they came out and was like, the first one was like donut or something.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Well, you see, the thing that gave that keyed me off was that they did not talk with the French accent.
- 23:57SPEAKER_05: Uh she just had they just happened to have Moose and Eclair first.
- 24:00SPEAKER_05: Now I I'm assuming I don't think I don't know if Moose is uh I don't know.
- 24:04SPEAKER_05: I don't know cooking that well, so Moose probably isn't a French.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: I think the name Moose comes from French.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know if the dish itself does that.
- 24:13SPEAKER_05: Well apparently when I was looking at I was on the Wikipedia, we're talking about carry like desserts a lot.
- 24:17SPEAKER_05: But uh Carrington, I found Carintos.
- 24:20SPEAKER_05: I always want to say Carrington.
- 24:21SPEAKER_05: Uh Carento, uh on the wiki it seemed like like a Wikipedia page for it on the history tab.
- 24:28SPEAKER_05: It was like it was based off of a dessert that came from like Portuguese settlers in like 1843 or something like that.
- 24:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, and they brought it over and then and then they evolved it into like what it is now, uh with Japanese cooking techniques.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: That's the crazy thing about food is that like food like food can be like people always installed American food for not being truly American.
- 24:53SPEAKER_05: I'm like a hamburger in the way that you would order it from a restaurant is American.
- 24:59SPEAKER_05: There is the hamburger steak, which was made in hamburg, Germany.
- 25:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 25:02SPEAKER_05: But the hamburger as an invention is American.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: But it's like no food uh like no food is unique.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: Every everyone that you've ever ate is came from somebody else.
- 25:13SPEAKER_05: Like like southern fried chicken mixed like like multiple different chicken frying methods with spices you could find in certain areas and in the southern United States to create a dish that is fully blended in cultures but built from s like all those cultures in the southern cauldron of America.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Tex Mex is another one where it's like it's Mexican food, but it's mixed with like settler food put together.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Like nothing is made in a vacuum, everything is built off of itself.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: You can't say that American food isn't American because it is uniquely American, but it's also very uniquely.
- 25:48SPEAKER_05: It's always my favorite, my favorite thing to laugh about when like British, like they have like those British high school British people trying American food for the first time, and they get a hamburger, it's like, well, this isn't American.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: It's like, no, shut up.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: First of all, go eat your mushy peas on toast, you dumb freaking.
- 26:06SPEAKER_05: Go eat your jacket potato with freaking tuna and baked beans.
- 26:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:11SPEAKER_05: And then the potatoes aren't hot enough to melt the cheese.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: That's what happens when you try to make up your own food, is you become England.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: I don't care if we have any English viewers out of it, because you won't email us.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: I've never been hearing from you.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: So, oh man, we lost one dome.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: They're not gonna email us, they're not gonna go here.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: My favorite saying about Britain is like, ah, Britain, where the taste of their food and the look of their woman made them the greatest sailors in the world.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: No wonder they're conquered conquered half the world for spices, refuses to put them in their food, and doesn't elaborate.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Sorry, that's quite a tangent.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: But it's making fun of British people.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: We love British culture, but it's so funny to make fun of British people.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Without them, we wouldn't have football or footy.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: Um, we probably would have football, but we wouldn't have footy.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but anyways, that's beside the point.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Back to the dessert family.
- 27:08SPEAKER_05: Back to the actual story of the shn.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: They have some famous last words, which is oh, Goku, go ahead, eat as much as you like.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you can't tell it to Goku.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: You're never gonna have food again.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: He's gonna eat tomorrow's fish.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: You're gonna go up fishing, like, man, where all the fish go.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: You just see at the end of the river as he's just eating raw.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: Sucking it in like Kirby.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:32SPEAKER_05: All the water's got him too.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: But anyways, he he eats, he's married, he tells them that he's there to fight somebody, and they're like, Well, there's only one person that fights around here.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: And so he's like, Well, I'll fight him then, and they're like, Okay, we'll take you there.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: But like, first you're gonna chill out with us.
- 27:48SPEAKER_05: And Corinto is like, I'll I'll walk up there with you because I go out to fish that way anyway.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: And so he walks him up to it, walks him up to Yaochan.
- 27:55SPEAKER_05: And we walk up and they split off because he goes to the river stream and Goku continues up the mountain.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but he goes and fights Yaochan, and it's it's if you were watching the episode, it's pretty well like delegated.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: This is not the story that yet that like this is not the point of Goku coming to the forest, is not for him to beat him.
- 28:15SPEAKER_05: Especially because like he's like, uh fight me, and he's like, Really?
- 28:18SPEAKER_05: Are you sure?
- 28:19SPEAKER_05: And then Goku's like, hmm, he's leaving himself open, and then just like one taps him.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: But even before that, when he shows up and he he's like, fight, I need to fight somebody, and they're like, Well, there's only one person that fights here.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: It's like, this is this is gonna be a one-shot fight.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Like, this ain't gonna be nothing.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: Even without remembering.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Like, this is easily gonna be like a he walks up, they he picks a fight.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: This is not the reason for him being here.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: He just decides to bully somebody for a day.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so he punches him really hard, thinking it's gonna be a fight, and basically wants to find it.
- 28:49SPEAKER_05: And then Goku is sad because like I must not have been who I was supposed to meet, and then he like falls asleep on like a rock near a stream, and then he wakes up and Corinto is there talking to him and stuff.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: And he basically tells him to stop and smell the roses.
- 29:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like focus.
- 29:03SPEAKER_05: He teaches him how to f like fish with a fishing pool.
- 29:06SPEAKER_05: Which we're we're both I would like to think we're both pretty big guys on fishing.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: We don't do it often because it's I haven't gone fishing, it's annoying to like Well, I haven't gone fishing since my grandpa since our grandpa passed.
- 29:17SPEAKER_05: Like, we're kinda we're both kind of the same boat.
- 29:19SPEAKER_05: Um, but it's like we you know, I I'm always like, I would love to go out fishing, but then not you know to get your fish gain fishing license, you have to buy the poles and stuff.
- 29:26SPEAKER_05: And then by the time you do that, you're like, I don't really know where to go fishing.
- 29:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 29:30SPEAKER_05: Because like our grandpa had all the secret places we could go fishing stuff.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: And yeah, for both of us, I think that was kind of like it's not that we don't like fishing, we wouldn't go fishing.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: I almost went fishing about a month ago, but you know, I backed out of that.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: And in general, it's just like I I just don't it's a fun I like I like it, I like it, but I also don't like I I it'll be different to do it without him.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_05: It's one of those things like it's like if we're both gonna go fishing, we're probably both gonna go fishing together at some point.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:58SPEAKER_05: Uh but that also becomes a hassle because the last time we went fishing, we didn't need a a license because our grandpa had the license and we were kids, yeah.
- 30:05SPEAKER_05: So we could fish without it.
- 30:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 30:06SPEAKER_05: But like it's a fun pastime, but it is also a pastime where like especially if you're doing it by yourself, it's very quiet.
- 30:15SPEAKER_05: It's a great time to be by your thoughts.
- 30:18SPEAKER_05: You know, maybe you catch catch a couple fish and you probably release them because most people catch and release, I think.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: Or maybe you don't even catch anything, but you still want out there and set it with naked.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: And that's kind of the that's that's the point of the that's the reason why.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: That is the reason why Goku is here.
- 30:33SPEAKER_05: It's because to meet him to learn how to like like the lesson they're trying to hammer through Goku's brain, which is very obvious, especially by the end of this episode, but even obvious last episode.
- 30:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's just like calm down, clear yourself, like just center yourself in the moment and listen to what's not.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: It's not beat the bad guy or not beat the bad guy.
- 30:59SPEAKER_05: It's not a speed run.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:01SPEAKER_05: Like stop, ex like it's like when playing a game, like stop, explore, have fun with the world you're in as long as it allows for that.
- 31:09SPEAKER_05: Because there are some games out there that are super linear and allow for that.
- 31:12SPEAKER_05: Like in open world games, part of the fun of it is that you get to go around and do things.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: I remember the first, like, the first true open world game I sat down and enjoyed was Red Dead Redemption 2.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Like I've played I played other ones, but I was very much Yeah, I was very much like point A to point B.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: It's part of the reason I don't really like Minecraft.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: Um, but I played through Red Dead Redemption 2.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: And I remember, like, because I mean I was follow I was pretty goal-oriented, but there's a lot of side quests, and the side quests aren't insane to the point, like, kind of like how Skyrim was where it was like, you oh you talk to one person and now you're on like a 12 you're on like a 12-step side quest problem.
- 31:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, 12-step program.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: But like with Red Dead, it was like you would talk to a person and then that person would show up later in the story, you could go talk to them again.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Or, you know, you'd get this guy that'd be like, go fish up all these fish and like come back to me when you're done.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: And I remember there was one I stumbled across that was literally like a guy, or it was a yeah, it was a guy.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: No, it was there were two, but like the one I remember particularly was the guy, and he ends up building Frankenstein, like in the Red Dead Redemption 2 world, and you have to go kill Frankenstein in one of the cities, because he's just like ravaging your or you're not Frankenstein, but kills them, you have to go kill the monster.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like they're Frankenstein, but not Frankenstein, basically.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: But like he ha you know, you have to go stop him, you have to well first you like tie him up, and then you have to go stop the monster and kill it, and then you go back and you find him as a baby.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: And it's like, what is going on right now?
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: So there's like time machine stuff, there's monsters, it's just crazy, right?
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: But like that was part of the fun.
- 32:52SPEAKER_05: It catches on to you.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it and it also but it also wasn't in your face.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Like, that's why I think that's why I think Red Dead worked, was that you could go from point A to point B.
- 33:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, people people always say that like Red Dead is like a perfect open world game.
- 33:06SPEAKER_05: Another game that like I haven't gotten into.
- 33:08SPEAKER_05: I need to go back and like take the time when there's a lull in games I want to play and just sit down and do it.
- 33:14SPEAKER_05: I might do it when the remaster comes out.
- 33:16SPEAKER_05: I have a Witcher 3 and Switch.
- 33:18SPEAKER_05: The Witcher 3.
- 33:19SPEAKER_05: Uh The Witcher 3 is what is like a lot of people are like, this is the perfect open world game.
- 33:25SPEAKER_05: There is enough here to get distracted, but there's enough here that you are gonna be committed to finishing the story because the story is compelling, side stories are compelling.
- 33:36SPEAKER_05: Um, I mean, there's literally a card game in The Witcher 3, which was so popular that it became its own standalone like actual game, which is Gwint.
- 33:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 33:48SPEAKER_05: And like that, I got distracted playing that like the the one time I went through and tried to play The Witcher 3.
- 33:53SPEAKER_05: But it was while I was in high school, I'm like, I don't have the time to commit thousands of hours into this game, so or hundreds of hours, I guess.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: But yeah, the point for for Goku is just some like how he's if you want to be the guardian of earth, which is what he's training for.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: It will he doesn't know that, but that's what he's training for.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: This is his job application and internship for being guardian of earth.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: Um, if you want that job, you cannot be goal-oriented, or you'll drive yourself insane, you'll burn out, and you'll lose, and you'll end up doing making mistakes.
- 34:28SPEAKER_05: There are probably a bunch of years where Kami is just sitting there twiddling his stum making dinner every day.
- 34:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 34:35SPEAKER_05: It's like there's not even not everyone, not there's not a threat to the planet every five minutes.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: But it's not even that, but like, even if you're Goku and you're looking to stop all the problems on Earth, like you're you're trying to be Superman, right?
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Like Superman for Metropolis, where there's no crime in Metropolis except for the big crime that he stops in the stories.
- 34:58SPEAKER_05: Like the world-ending crimes.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Because the nothing else can happen because be f as it's happening, he is there to stop it, right?
- 35:06SPEAKER_05: If Goku wants to- I can't you can't rob a bank in Metropolis.
- 35:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because he'll just show up and be like, Come on, man, what are we doing?
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: And you're like, Yeah, fair enough.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: And so it's like if you're like like if you're Goku and that's what your end goal is, is to stop eliminate all injustice in the entire world, he is going to burn himself out within like a year.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Even in Dragon Ball World, where it seems like it's mostly pretty peaceful, like there's problems, obviously, but we haven't seen any like big problems, you know.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: It seems like all of the territories, all of the areas, you know, get along, they all have their own rules and governance, but also like have the same rules and governance.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: It's kind of weird.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: It doesn't make any sense really, but they all like get along in pretty well company.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: There's not really wars.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: There was the Red Ribbon Army, but he's already single-handedly solved that, you know.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: But like there's not a whole lot of like singular problems.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: There are some like that are like world worldwide problems.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: There's no World War II going on that he has to stop, you know.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: But like there's also a lot of small things, like there's a problem as much as there is a Tau running around, there's other people like Tau that are running around that he would need to go stop.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: And if every time he stops one, he's gonna have to stop another one, and then another one.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: And then what about the the cat stick up the tree?
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Are you gonna take time to go do that?
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: And then it's like he's gonna burn himself out.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: And so I think the main lesson that he's trying they're trying to beat into his head is bruv, you can't solve every problem, right?
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: You can't you can't burn yourself out like this.
- 36:44SPEAKER_05: You can't you have to be able to determine what's worth solving.
- 36:50SPEAKER_05: And it's it's probably one of the toughest things to learn, like in superhero media.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: Like also just like in life.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: Like obviously we don't have problems that are worth solving on that the level that Goku's talking about all the time.
- 37:02SPEAKER_05: But like what you have to pick your fights.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you have to f you have to figure out what your battles are.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: You have to be able to uh prioritize the problems or the the situation.
- 37:11SPEAKER_05: And I think like if you go if you're looking at superhero media as a whole, another superhero who has this a lot as a theme for his stories, and I think you know he just had a movie come out recently, Spider-Man's a big example of that.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:27SPEAKER_05: Like where you have to be able to accept that not everything's going to work out perfectly because you can't save everybody.
- 37:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_05: But you and you have to be able to make those choices of what do what can I spend my energy on to best help as many people as possible.
- 37:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:50SPEAKER_05: And that that is like kind of.
- 37:52SPEAKER_05: That's the theme.
- 37:53SPEAKER_05: That's kind of a s the sort of uh the theme that we're following it.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: It's not the exact wording of the theme you're learning.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: It's the macro lesson.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: But the micro lesson is stop.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Calm down.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Because you can't learn the macro lesson of you gotta figure out, you gotta pick and choose what you're going to do until you stop and take a second to realize how much you have to analyze.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: And so, like, that's the whole thing with these episodes.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: The first episode is slow down.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: But since you're not gonna learn it this way, we're gonna speed you up really hard because you're gonna have to become faster than lightning.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: And then the next time, we're going to slow you the way down.
- 38:35SPEAKER_05: We're gonna make we're gonna slow you down.
- 38:38SPEAKER_05: And you're you're gonna be a rock that's just relaxing.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: And you're going to learn this from a person who you obviously are gonna listen to better than Mr.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Popo.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: Because he's gonna tell it to you straight.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: Because nobody tells it to you straight more than a old fisherman.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: He's gonna tell it to you straight.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: Don't ask him about his like fish war stories.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: Other than that, he will tell everything to you straight in OBS.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: Like point A to point B.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: That one he'll exaggerate till the cows come home with the fishing stories.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: But otherwise, he's pretty well good, you know.
- 39:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:09SPEAKER_05: Especially like if you're out there helping him fish, he's gonna want you to help him fish.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: And he's also going to help, he's gonna help you learn.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: And that that was kind of that was what the point was.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: And Mr.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: Popo is like, you know, this makes no sense.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Like, he he's not learning it.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: This is dumb.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: And then Tommy's like, no, you don't get it.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: Like, this is the way he's gonna learn.
- 39:35SPEAKER_05: Because like, yeah, it's slower than we want it to be.
- 39:37SPEAKER_05: Well, this is how it's gonna work.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you want him to learn this, he's gonna have to learn it.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: And he can't learn it with the way that we're doing it before, you know?
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: And so, like, that's kind of the episodes.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: And so, with that, I guess what we need to do, Jesse, is jump back into your predictions.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: Whoop whoop.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: And your first one is Goku will get the training down.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: Sort of.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: He does sort of get the training down.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: Because you were mostly talking about the first episode, and he does, by the end of the episode, learn the lesson.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: But and then the second episode, you said the gang are going to go to a woods.
- 40:13SPEAKER_01: And Jesse, I hate to inform you, but Goku does not count as a gang.
- 40:17SPEAKER_05: The gang is not the Goku.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: So you only get like half a point out of those two.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't matter at all for this, Jesse.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Because episode 129 is titled The Time Room.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: And episode 130 is titled Goku's Doll.
- 40:39SPEAKER_05: Time Room and Goku's Doll.
- 40:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:42SPEAKER_05: Well, going off of kind of self-contained lesson training lesson stories.
- 40:48SPEAKER_05: The time room, I think, is just another way to kind of get Goku to calm down, probably.
- 40:57SPEAKER_05: Like it might have something to do with the more needless motion he uses the slower he moves.
- 41:06SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 41:07SPEAKER_05: Like it's like a weird time distortion thing.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: The time room distorts time.
- 41:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: I guess That's about the best way I can put it.
- 41:15SPEAKER_05: Like on like it kind of hits the nail probably right on the head and as a dub, but it's like.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I mean I mean, this is the same guy who was like, milk delivery, what could that mean?
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so this is the same shit.
- 41:28SPEAKER_05: I'm not falling for it again.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Says the guy who falls for it again.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: Because you've also done it another time in the show.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: Where there was another episode where it was pretty much, this is what's going to happen.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: And you're like, I don't know what's going to happen.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: But anyways, Jesse, what do you think Goku's doll is gonna be?
- 41:44SPEAKER_04: Goku's doll.
- 41:48SPEAKER_05: Maybe like Goku has to like stay calm with a doll.
- 41:57SPEAKER_05: Or like it kind of it kind of makes me think of um I don't know, I don't know if you haven't watched JJK.
- 42:04SPEAKER_05: I have not.
- 42:05SPEAKER_05: But there's an ep like in like an episode of JJK, they give a character like this doll.
- 42:10SPEAKER_05: It's like when when you ch you have to constantly be channeling a certain amount of cursed energy, or else this doll's gonna punch you in the face constantly.
- 42:20SPEAKER_05: But you have to rel regulate your emotions and energy.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: If you go too high, it's gonna punch you in the face.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: But if you go too low, it's also gonna punch you in the face.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: So you gotta hang at like level three.
- 42:30SPEAKER_05: Well, you have to pump out a certain amount.
- 42:32SPEAKER_05: If you go too low, you're like unregulated or whatever, I think is when it punches you in the face, but I might be misremembering.
- 42:36SPEAKER_05: But it's like it's that type of thing where it's like you have to regulate yourself while watching these like different horror movies and different types of movies and stuff.
- 42:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:44SPEAKER_05: While like doing this.
- 42:46SPEAKER_05: And you just constantly have to be able to get to a point where you can keep it at a certain level without thinking about it.
- 42:51SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 42:51SPEAKER_05: So I think it might be something along those lines.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, so Goku has to train with a doll to keep his emotions in check.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Emotions or power or something in check.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: Keep his emotions slash power in check.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Alright, so Jesse, what was your worst part?
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: Probably the Roshi.
- 43:14SPEAKER_05: Well, I I kind of have to go for the perv moment.
- 43:17SPEAKER_05: Because the other other thing is just how dumb and pointless it kind of was to take a peek into the whole gang both times.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: See, my thing, my thing with it is yes, the perv moment is bad.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: The worst moment is it's his dumb story.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the dumb story is the best.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: The dumb story is the worst part.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: Like the the perv moment obviously is not good, but like the the worst part of this episode is him being like, Yeah, one time I wanted to ask a girl out on a date.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Anyways, I'll catch you.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: Anyways, you guys suck.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: You're not gonna be able to beat him.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: It's kinda like, you know.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: Anyways, give up.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: And that is I'm like, come on, what w this was this was on the like I know this is all filler, but that is filler on top of filler.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: We did not need to go back.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: It's funny to find out that that was edited from him just like screaming at them.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Being like, You guys are learning the same stuff.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: You're doing the same thing over and over again.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: You're punching your head into the wall.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna freaking work.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Which would have been way more useful.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know how they landed the plane on that.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: And but instead, the best part, honorable mention, is the dessert family.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: But my what is your best part, Jesse?
- 44:27SPEAKER_05: Best part.
- 44:28SPEAKER_05: I I really love like Goku finally learning the lightning trick and then immediately getting bold.
- 44:34SPEAKER_05: Like you zap by another one because he starts celebrating.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: And then Mr.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: Popo's like, yep, he still doesn't get it.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: No, but he he did get it.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: You can't lie, he did get it.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: And if you sent him back there again, he would have finished it, you know.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: But um the my best part is the setting around, sitting at the water with with the grandpa, you know, Corinto, and finally like stopping for a minute and like relaxing and kind of understanding the point.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: You know, that is probably.
- 45:02SPEAKER_05: It's also just like it it feels almost kind of like a s a moment him and Gohan could have had had Gohan survived.
- 45:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it also feels like as a grandpa son duo.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: It also feels a lot like the because I've been watching a lot of fan edits on TikTok of Master Roshi, because of everything that just happened like you know, last week with Master Roshi, or like three weeks for you guys, but um with Master Roshi like passing away and there's a fan edit going around right now where it's kind of them just relaxing and realizing like part of training is like resetting, you know, centering yourself in that moment, and like that you know that he finally gets it in this episode because at the first time when Master Roshi teaches it to him, he's too young.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: And if Gohan Grandpa Gohan ever tried to teach this to him, he was way too young.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but he finally like gets it, you know?
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: And this is like the first time we've ever really seen him get it.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Whereas like when he was doing it with Roshi, he was like, Finally, I get to take a break.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, now what are we gonna do next?
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: It's like, uh, finally.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: Alright, back to it, you know?
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like that.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: This is like he's like, Okay, can we fish again?
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Like he doesn't say that, but it's almost like by the end of it, he's like, Can we go one more time?
- 46:18SPEAKER_05: Like, don't you like, yeah, he's like uh Karen Carinto is even telling him, like, hey, at least we'll fish for tomorrow.
- 46:24SPEAKER_05: Come on, what we doing?
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: And so that that really is nice to see.
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: So that's probably my best part.
- 46:31SPEAKER_05: Again, like these episodes are fun to watch.
- 46:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:33SPEAKER_05: I do think like if you are binging through this to try to figure out like a good story, maybe just read the Spark notes here.
- 46:43SPEAKER_05: Go to the wiki and read the overview.
- 46:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:45SPEAKER_05: You don't unless you really want to watch these.
- 46:47SPEAKER_05: Like, if you've watched these before, you'll probably skip over them.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: I think as a first-time viewer.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: And if you haven't seen them in a while, they're still good to watch too.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: Like, 'cause like I hadn't really paid seen them in probably three years when I like most recently re-watched the entire thing from the beginning.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: And it's like, yeah, like it's it's nice, you know.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: It's real like these are good episodes.
- 47:10SPEAKER_05: You do palette cleansers.
- 47:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: You don't need everything to be the end of the world.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: And it's sometimes it's nice to just see the end like see him be like be taught it's not the end of the world.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: You know, not everything is you gotta go as fast as possible.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses a bit, you know.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so I guess with that, thank you all for listening um to us here at Becoming Saiyans.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: I would love if you would email us at becomingsayans at gmail.com.

- 47:54SPEAKER_01: Bye.
