- 0:10Some old friends facing our fears, laughing through the
- 0:13chaos and drinking some beers. So here's to the laughs, the
- 0:16crumbs and the cheers. All the awkward moments.
- 0:19And we're still here. Because in the end, we're just
- 0:21doing our thing. It's our crazy life. 01 more.
- 0:25Thing. One more thing.
- 0:31Welcome to Oh and one more thing, a podcast where 2 long
- 0:34time friends try to figure out what the heck is going on with
- 0:37this crazy thing called middle age.
- 0:39It's a mix of stories of how we navigate our lives and maybe
- 0:42some questionable advice. Some days we're wise, other days
- 0:45we're just trying to remember where the heck we left our
- 0:47phone. So join us as we laugh, groan,
- 0:49and maybe even learn a little something about surviving in the
- 0:52second-half of life. Oh, and one more thing.
- 1:04Hey, I am Rob and welcome to Owen.
- 1:07One more thing. Hey, I'm Brian.
- 1:08What's the vibe today, Rob? You know the vibe today.
- 1:11So we're recording this at the very beginning of October and
- 1:15it's freaking 90°. Inside, I think it was a couple
- 1:19of podcasts. Go you said is getting crisp.
- 1:20Outside it was. It's not.
- 1:23It did for like 3 days now it's freaking 90 dude.
- 1:26It is supposed to be sweater weather.
- 1:28It's October. I know, but I think it's Sunday
- 1:31or Monday. Yeah, it's gonna be.
- 1:32Cold. Cold.
- 1:33Yeah, well, 60s. OK, so that's going to be
- 1:35refreshing to be refreshing it just calm yourself down.
- 1:38I know it's irritating. Right.
- 1:40No. You know, it's funny because in
- 1:41two months, ask me how I feel about the winter.
- 1:43I'm. Saying, oh, you're going to
- 1:43hate. It this sucks.
- 1:44Bring back the warm weather, right?
- 1:46I'm ready to go back, but yeah. Anyway, anyway, so you know
- 1:49what, when we did record this a couple so when this airs, yes,
- 1:53if I could not be so tongue tied.
- 1:55Math is hard. Math is hard.
- 1:58Anyway, in a couple, couple of weeks ago, yeah, my daughter
- 2:01bought a new car, I heard. That what?
- 2:02What did she get? She got a Subaru Forester, isn't
- 2:05she excited? Yes, very much.
- 2:07That's her first like, like her car because she's kind of been
- 2:10borrowing a car. Yeah, well, she's driving my old
- 2:12car. Yeah.
- 2:13Yeah. So now she finally bought her
- 2:14own car, so she's stepping up in the world.
- 2:17And I want to give a shout out to the sales guy, Jerry Peterson
- 2:21at Luther Bloomington Subaru. He was great, Jerry.
- 2:25Hi, Jerry. That's I hope you're listening.
- 2:26That's. Very cool, very cool.
- 2:27I am in the market for a new vehicle.
- 2:29Yeah, what are you getting? I am buying a windowless van.
- 2:35Is that for like down by the river?
- 2:3611 of the hand I'll buy the no it is a work purchase.
- 2:40We are as you've heard if you've been our long time listeners, we
- 2:43are into pest control now so we're buying a pest van.
- 2:46So you're going to be a little more pesty A.
- 2:48Little more pesty. Than usual.
- 2:49Yeah, it's got really cool. Stickers you put on, a little
- 2:51bugs that crawl around on. It's pretty cool looking so.
- 2:54Oh, I want to see it. Yeah.
- 2:55So I'm excited. So that's that's my winter
- 2:56project to work on. So that's.
- 2:57To get it decaled. Yes, yes, OK, yes, all that fun
- 3:02stuff, so. Awesome.
- 3:03So next year, yeah, the pest control van will be out on the
- 3:07road. Out and about and doing its
- 3:08thing. OK Yep, Yep.
- 3:12What's going on over there? Brian?
- 3:16Are you hungry? You know we're doing a podcast
- 3:19right now, right? I love a good snack.
- 3:23I do, as a matter of fact. You know, I could barely get
- 3:26through a day without going to cupboard and looking for
- 3:28something to monkey. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:31All right. So are you trying to be like the
- 3:33Scarecrow and win an award? Sure, sure.
- 3:37You know, he won an award because he was outstanding in
- 3:39his field. Really.
- 3:40Yeah. And now he's outstanding in a
- 3:41bigger field after all those snacks.
- 3:45Well, you know this episode is it's a snack flashback.
- 3:48I it is, yes. Hey, do you remember Fun Dip?
- 3:51Yeah. Yeah, it was just sugar.
- 3:52I know it was good. Yeah, well, you dipped in your
- 3:54stick made of sugar, right? Right.
- 3:56Somehow your parents, your parents are like, hey, that's
- 3:58cool. So I wonder.
- 4:00We all ran around like we were crazy and hopped up on caffeine.
- 4:03Right, But they were good. Oh, they're awesome.
- 4:06Yeah. I mean, growing up in the 80s
- 4:08meant living, like, in the golden era of junk food, right?
- 4:10Right. I mean, neon packaging, catchy
- 4:12jingles and way too sweet snacks ruled every lunch box in the
- 4:16corner store, right? Yep.
- 4:17It was a time when a pack of Fruit Roll ups felt like
- 4:20currency on the playground. Cereal commercials promised
- 4:23adventure with every sugary bite.
- 4:25Yes, it did. And so it simply tastes better
- 4:28because it came in a glass bottle.
- 4:30Right. Yep, I remember that.
- 4:32Absolutely. That's how we used to get it.
- 4:33The only way we used to get it. Yep.
- 4:35So microwave pizzas? Powdery drink mixes that turn in
- 4:37water to neon. Those foods were just snacks.
- 4:40They are part of our culture, etched into memories of Saturday
- 4:42morning cartoons and after school Hangouts.
- 4:45So we're going to dive into some of our favorite junk food snacks
- 4:49from the past. It's a snack flashback.
- 4:51Like I said earlier, it is starting us off with Cool Ranch
- 4:56Doritos. OK, OK, so why Cool Ranch?
- 4:59OK, so let me tell you OK, Doritos are a snack food needing
- 5:04no introduction. Of course we all know what they
- 5:06are. But however, in 1986 one of the
- 5:09one flavor in particular which combined the most robust salad
- 5:12dressing and the crunches tortilla chip put its put this
- 5:16chip company on the map. Doritos Cool Ranch Tortilla
- 5:19Chips Packed as zesty punch and bold crunch, these 80s chips
- 5:24took over and with their electric blue bags which still
- 5:28graced the grocery shelves world over.
- 5:30See, now when I think of Doritos, I still think of the
- 5:32original Nacho Cheese Doritos. Right.
- 5:34That's what I was just snacking on a minute ago was the Nacho
- 5:37cheese. And I think that's my favorite,
- 5:39the Nacho cheese Doritos versus cool.
- 5:41But I like the Cool Ranch. But I didn't know that they
- 5:44first came out in 86. I didn't know that either, Which
- 5:47you know, to me is like yesterday.
- 5:49There is that and and really the the Nacho cheese ones and I
- 5:54would even put the Taco flavored ones over the the.
- 5:57Oh, so no, I don't care for the Taco ones.
- 5:59No, no. But I do like, don't they like a
- 6:01fire? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:03Well, I like spicy so. Yeah, spicy's good.
- 6:05Yeah, I can smell your Doritos. No, I'm hungry.
- 6:07You want some. Yes, yes and no.
- 6:11So all. Right, so if we're chewing on
- 6:14things during this episode, don't just ignore that.
- 6:18I can't hear you right now. What?
- 6:19Right, right. Well, you know what kind of
- 6:21snack I had today? What's that?
- 6:23One of my favorite all time snacks that Nerds cluster.
- 6:27What? It's the Nerds candies clustered
- 6:30on a gummy fruit, and they're sour and sweet at the same time.
- 6:36I just ate some today. And super healthy for you.
- 6:38Oh, super healthy. I mean, talk about a sugar rush.
- 6:40I love it. So you know what?
- 6:42It's kind of funny what is was portrayed to us as kids as
- 6:45healthy was Fruit Roll Ups. They were portrayed as healthy,
- 6:47right? Right.
- 6:49It's the healthy snap. Yeah.
- 6:50So they're first introduced by General Mills in 1983 as part of
- 6:54their Fruit Corners line. However, the concept of fruit
- 6:57leather, which they totally were, right, which is the basis
- 7:00for a fruit roll up, has a history of dating back to the
- 7:02early 20th century, really. Syrian immigrants in New York
- 7:06City created fruit leather product called Armadine.
- 7:09Armadine made from Epcot paste. Oh well, that sounds.
- 7:13Kind of gross. Delicious.
- 7:15I mean, let me eat some apricot paste, come on.
- 7:18I to love myself a fruit roll up though.
- 7:20Yeah. Do you like those?
- 7:21I I think my kids like them way more than I like them.
- 7:24Yeah, yeah, You know, they were. It was hard to chew, got stuck
- 7:26in my teeth. Oh yeah, that was the best part.
- 7:27And like peeling them off the cellophane.
- 7:29Plastic, yeah, but you just suck off that the fruit roll up off
- 7:33your teeth all day long. All day long, yeah.
- 7:35Or if you get it stuck to the roof of your mouth and you sit
- 7:36there and kind of keep blicking it for like 20 minutes, it's a
- 7:40snack that just gives the. Dog peanut butter?
- 7:42Exactly. It's yeah, But I I do think it's
- 7:45funny that that was considered a healthy snack 30 years.
- 7:48Ago, sure, and even when my kids were young and you give them go
- 7:51buy fruit snacks because quote, I'm doing air quotes in the air
- 7:54here. It's like they're, it's healthy.
- 7:55They're healthy. There's fruit juice and yeah,
- 7:58yeah, there's more. Sugar dude there's like 2% fruit
- 8:02juice even that has full. But we let our kids eat that all
- 8:04the time. All the time, yeah.
- 8:05How about pudding pops? I still love pudding pops.
- 8:08Did you? Oh my God, yeah.
- 8:09If there was one food in the 80s, kids remember it's the
- 8:13Jello pudding, a frozen treat made of jello pudding.
- 8:17Pudding Pops were introduced nationwide in 1981 and marketed
- 8:21to kids with who else as a spokesperson and to adults with
- 8:29it's 90 calories as a selling point.
- 8:32The pops became immensely popular and remained so into the
- 8:36late 90s. Yeah, and I think that was a
- 8:37huge selling point, especially for my parents.
- 8:39It's a 90 calorie snack. Sure.
- 8:42What a great snack, right? Yeah, I remember eating those.
- 8:44Yeah, always the fudge ones. Right.
- 8:46The yeah, the the chocolate fudge little fudge ones.
- 8:48Yeah, the vanilla ones are. Yeah, will you?
- 8:52Sure. Yeah, the chocolate ones.
- 8:55But and did they stop selling them because they they stopped
- 8:57selling or because Bill Cosby was associated?
- 8:59No, I think Bill Cosby's issues happened later.
- 9:02They have them later. That they're already out of the
- 9:04ecosystem by name. I think the pudding pups had
- 9:07already died off. Yeah, see, that's one of those
- 9:08treats that could totally. Bring but I don't know, maybe
- 9:10they're still available. I did not research if they were
- 9:12still on the shelves. I have not seen them in years,
- 9:14you see. Would you buy them?
- 9:16Oh, absolutely I would. And you would eat them right
- 9:18now? Oh heck yeah.
- 9:19Let's get one. Alright, anyone?
- 9:20Right, we're on it, We're on it. Where's our?
- 9:22Go to the store. What's an intern?
- 9:27That's what we need. So we need an intern.
- 9:29Totally need an intern, Dr. the windowless hand.
- 9:34Sketchy. OK, so Speaking of pudding, do
- 9:37you remember Hostess Pudding Pies?
- 9:39Yes. See, now this is funny.
- 9:40I vaguely remember them, but I, well, let me get through the
- 9:44thing here. But I, I remember the fruit ones
- 9:45more. Yeah.
- 9:46Yeah, I did too. But I had the Hostess pudding
- 9:48pies. I liked them.
- 9:49You. Didn't.
- 9:49OK OK, so it's the Hostess is known for their cream filled
- 9:52cakes and fruit filled hand pies, but they decided to
- 9:55combine elements of the two at one point to create the Hostess
- 9:58pudding pie. This looked like one of their
- 10:00fruit pies but was filled with pudding instead and given a
- 10:04light coating of chocolate. It was calorie packed, sugary
- 10:07and fatty. You think it was pretty much a
- 10:10kids dessert dream? I loved them.
- 10:13The crust on those pudding. Yeah, the pies you don't have
- 10:16the little sugary coating. It was as good as the pudding
- 10:19was. I loved them, but even more than
- 10:22that. Yeah, the fruit pie.
- 10:24I love the. Fruit.
- 10:25I love the fruit. I would go out of my way to go
- 10:26buy a fruit pie. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:28But. You could not eat a fruit pie
- 10:31from McDonald's. Oh no, those things are.
- 10:32It's like eating lava. Yeah, they're horrible.
- 10:34It would burn your face off. I mean.
- 10:36It tasted good, but yes, yeah, they were.
- 10:37They were 8000°. So then you could just get a
- 10:39Hostess fruit pie And what was your favorite flavour?
- 10:42Well, I had two. I would always go default to
- 10:45the. Cherry, of course.
- 10:46Cherry's the best. And then Apple would be second.
- 10:48Me too. Get out Cherry, we are destined
- 10:52to be friends. Now there's a couple of flavors
- 10:53that I tried and I even seen them to this day.
- 10:55I'm like the blueberry. Oh come on, I like blueberry.
- 10:58I know, but not in those things. They just.
- 11:00It was a weird. Blueberry.
- 11:01Yeah, blueberry is one of my favorite flavors.
- 11:03And then the lemon. Yeah, I wasn't big on the lemon.
- 11:05Lemon either yeah, but no. And it's funny, I I don't like
- 11:09in general don't like cherries, but a cherry Hostess pie was the
- 11:12best. Yeah, I would totally agree.
- 11:15Yeah, really, Hostess anything was good.
- 11:17I mean, Hostess cupcakes, the whole hose.
- 11:20Do you like snowballs? That sounds like coconut.
- 11:22No, that's gross. Oh, see, I love that, that gooey
- 11:24marshmallow, even though today I'll never eat a marshmallow
- 11:27because I don't like them. But then you bite into that
- 11:30chocolate snowball cake and then they had the center and they had
- 11:35the gooey and it was great. Yeah, I was a big whole fan.
- 11:38And how about everyone's favorite, a Twinkie?
- 11:41Everybody likes a Twinkie. Twinkies were great again.
- 11:44Yeah, not good for you. What but delicious sponge cake
- 11:49that lasts forever? That's forever.
- 11:52Hostess Brands, originally known as Continental Baking Company,
- 11:56began in 1919. Did you know that I did not?
- 11:59With the introduction of the Hostess Cupcake, those suckers
- 12:03have been around forever. Ever.
- 12:05The company later became known for iconic treats like Twinkies,
- 12:09like we just said, with ironically, their first one sold
- 12:13in 1930. And that one's still around, I'm
- 12:16sure. I think it's still it's in the
- 12:17Smithsonian. I'm sure it is.
- 12:19The zombie apocalypse so common, the only thing that we would be
- 12:21able to eat are Twinkies. Those things last forever.
- 12:23That's right, did you know the Twinkies have a shelf life of 25
- 12:26days? Not 25 years.
- 12:27Well, no truly it's it's is 25 days, although they still look
- 12:32fresh at 20. Five years.
- 12:33Yes they do. Yes they do.
- 12:34Though you may, they may last longer in terms of physical
- 12:37appearance, as we noted. Yeah, but they will likely
- 12:41become stale and less enjoyable to eat.
- 12:43Yeah, I would guess, but still. But while they don't technically
- 12:47rot cause of the lack of dairy and the high sugar content, What
- 12:51sugar? Yeah they will dry out and
- 12:54become brittle over time, eventually getting hard and
- 12:57stale. I.
- 12:58Think we should test that theory?
- 13:00I know you have one still from your childhood, no?
- 13:03But you know, so, and if recent memory serves me correctly, the
- 13:08Twinkies or pulses went bankrupt a couple years ago and then they
- 13:12kind of got re bought or they got brought back.
- 13:14So they're back in the in the ecosystem again.
- 13:16OK, so there was a time they were off the shelves like a.
- 13:18Couple years ago, it wasn't that long ago like they went, they
- 13:21went away and then somebody bought them back and I seen them
- 13:24at the store. So they are back.
- 13:25They're back so. And you Did you ever have the
- 13:28Hostess cupcakes with the frosting on the top?
- 13:30Yeah. And would you peel the frosting?
- 13:32Do you always eat the frosting first or last?
- 13:34Yeah. One or the other first or.
- 13:36Which way? Which way were you?
- 13:37Oh, I was a first. You were frosting first, I was
- 13:39frosting last. OK, so I peeled it off, eat
- 13:41that, and then I eat the cake. Yeah, I peel off, hold on to it,
- 13:45and then I, in the other hand, have the cupcake.
- 13:47Two fisted cupcake eater over. Here I have the cupcake and I
- 13:50eat about half of it, and then you have the white filling in
- 13:53the middle. And then I'd stick my tongue in
- 13:54there and lick that all up and finish the cupcake.
- 13:58Oh my God, is that a little too much?
- 14:00That's a little it's, it's all right.
- 14:02Yeah. We're flashing back here.
- 14:03It's. Good.
- 14:04It's all good. It's all safe.
- 14:04It's a safe space here. We're good.
- 14:06So before we go too much further, it's that time again.
- 14:08It's our time for Spring Green Minute.
- 14:13Yes, it is. Thanks, Brian.
- 14:14This time we're talking about overseeding.
- 14:17Overseeding. What does that mean?
- 14:18So what does that mean? So we're actually a little late
- 14:21for overseeding, at least in Minnesota.
- 14:22We're in middle of October now by the time this is heading out
- 14:25in, we try and get overseeding done by the middle of September.
- 14:28So what we do is we do a core aeration, a mechanical core
- 14:31aeration. We put little holes in your.
- 14:32Yard. Yep.
- 14:33OK, gotta. Come back and throw a bunch of
- 14:34seed down so it gets into those holes, it starts to germinate,
- 14:37starts to grow before we hit winter dormancy, so then it'll
- 14:40pop back in the spring. So it's meant to thicken up your
- 14:42yard. OK, great.
- 14:44Now, some people also like to do what's called the dormant
- 14:47seeding as we get into November, early December.
- 14:49And I have no idea what that. Means.
- 14:51So what that is, is you basically just throw a bunch of
- 14:53seed down before the 1st snowfall and the theory is as
- 14:57the snow melts it gets into the ground in the spring and it
- 14:59comes back up in the spring. Personally not a huge fan of
- 15:02that. I don't think that is very
- 15:04effective, at least from what I've seen and what I've tried in
- 15:07the past. You'll probably get something
- 15:10you're not going to get a lot. So your better option is to see
- 15:11it a little bit earlier in the fall, late August, early
- 15:14September. But we could still seed now and.
- 15:16Still could. Well, especially now because
- 15:17it's still still warm. 90 flipping degrees outside.
- 15:19So yeah. Calm down, calm down.
- 15:21The ground damps will stay warm for a few more weeks.
- 15:24So yes you could still seed right now.
- 15:25OK. But typically you want to shoot
- 15:27from what middle September is the latest?
- 15:28So what you're saying is after I'm done here today, I should go
- 15:31seed my lawn? Absolutely.
- 15:32You should great thicken that baby up.
- 15:34OK, awesome. There we go.
- 15:36Thanks. All right, moving on, I know I
- 15:39you must know about Lunchables. I know about Lunchables.
- 15:42So those were first introduced in 1988.
- 15:44I didn't realize it was that long ago.
- 15:46Right. I remember them being more of a
- 15:48maybe a an affluent snack because we couldn't afford them
- 15:51so. Yes, the hoity toity lunchable,
- 15:54right? Yes.
- 15:54So you you had the hoity toity Lunchables.
- 15:58OK, see here's how cheap buy them.
- 15:59We'll only buy them if they're on sale for like 4 for $5.
- 16:03Quality food right there. Quality.
- 16:05Food regular price at $1.50 is too much, but four for five?
- 16:08Sign me up baby. So so lunch goes quickly became
- 16:12an easy to go to snack and a packed lunch option for children
- 16:15across the US. The classic build your own
- 16:18packet featured crackers, cheese and meat slices and years later
- 16:21still available to buy in stores as of today.
- 16:23So new spin offs though with versions of mini cheese pizzas
- 16:26and mini corn dogs. Yeah, I know my kids liked them
- 16:28when we packed them for them for their lunches.
- 16:30But when I grew up, it wasn't. It was.
- 16:32It was peanut butter and chili sandwiches.
- 16:35Yeah. It's really it's put this the
- 16:38nicest way possible. That's the lazy parent lunch
- 16:41snack. OK, sure.
- 16:43Switch that. Hey I bought them for my kids so
- 16:45I'm not excluding myself in this category whatsoever.
- 16:47So my kids have had them too, so.
- 16:49So you get the lazy parent award.
- 16:51Absolutely do. Absolutely.
- 16:52Awesome. Yeah, How about this is one of
- 16:54our favorites. What was mine?
- 16:57Hubba Bubba. Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum was the
- 17:01first was first launched in 1979.
- 17:04I didn't know that. Wow.
- 17:05By the Wrigley Junior company. It was introduced as a soft
- 17:09bubble gum, aiming to address the issue of bubble sticking to
- 17:12your face. Yeah, that's always been a
- 17:14problem. Always.
- 17:16I didn't realize that was a problem with the lexicon.
- 17:19Actually, when I was older and chewing gum and blowing bubbles,
- 17:21I'd stick to my mustache. Well, yeah, that is a problem.
- 17:23Then I would turn to Hubba Bubba.
- 17:24Sure, because you know, I had a mustache when I was in junior
- 17:29high. Sure.
- 17:30Well, I need to see pictures of that.
- 17:31We need to get that on the website.
- 17:33We need to see bride in a mustache.
- 17:35I didn't. The name is derived from the
- 17:38World War 2 military expression Hubba Hubba, which expresses
- 17:43approval or excitement. Now I thought Hubba hubba meant
- 17:47something else. What did you think of it?
- 17:49Well, when a pretty girl's walking by and say hubba hub.
- 17:51OK, you know why? I know why?
- 17:53Because that's the thing in my memory, too.
- 17:54It's like from the 1940s and 1950s Bugs Bunny cartoons.
- 17:57We're going to go. Yeah, Hubba.
- 17:58Hubba. And his eyes get all big.
- 18:03Right. Exactly.
- 18:04Yes, that's exactly what I think is supposed to mean.
- 18:06Yeah, but I didn't know it meant, you know, approval or
- 18:09excitement like. Excitement.
- 18:11I guess he's pretty excited. The eyes.
- 18:12The eyes and the ooga. Ooga, right?
- 18:13Yeah, Ooga. That's.
- 18:16Funny. That's that's good humor.
- 18:17How I didn't realize that how about bubble that that I
- 18:20understand it was a soft chewing gum, but I didn't realize that
- 18:22was like their goal was. Their goal?
- 18:25To not stick to your face. Yeah.
- 18:26So obviously it was a major problem, right for gum chewers
- 18:30that you blow bubble and you can't get it off your face.
- 18:32Still stuck to your face, I mean.
- 18:34But I remember that having a bubble blowing contest with my
- 18:37sister and we would see who could blow it.
- 18:39The biggest one would you get a really big bubble and it pops
- 18:42and it lands on your forehead peeled right off.
- 18:45Interesting, I was their their competitor that bubble Yum.
- 18:49Bubble Yum bubble. Yum, yeah.
- 18:51So that was OK, Maybe it's kind of the same.
- 18:53Kind of same. Bubble and bubble.
- 18:55Yum. Maybe I'm chewing both of them.
- 18:57It's kind of like Kleenex and puffs.
- 18:58Same but different. How about you remember Bazooka?
- 19:01Oh yeah, Bazooka gum. That's the worst.
- 19:03There are 10 seconds of chewing the gum and the flavours gone
- 19:07and it became. Hard.
- 19:08And it, it was a brick to begin with.
- 19:09Yeah. Yeah, it was horrible.
- 19:10It was amazing. OK, so moving on something
- 19:13completely different, Skittles. Oh, I like.
- 19:15Skittles. Can you imagine a world without
- 19:17Skittles? No, I can't.
- 19:18Yeah. That'd be weird.
- 19:19Yeah, Skittles were first introduced in 1974 by a British
- 19:22company, but it wasn't until 1979 when Skittles were first
- 19:26introduced in North America. Really.
- 19:28Since its beginning, Skittles have been over the rainbow with
- 19:31popularity. Taste the rainbow.
- 19:33Taste the rainbow. I don't, I don't remember them
- 19:36coming up that. Early I didn't either.
- 19:38But apparently they've been around for a while apparently.
- 19:40So I've seen this thing where you can really kind of you mix
- 19:44them with M&M's and as you don't know what you're getting a
- 19:47Skittle or an M&M and if you would pop two of the different
- 19:51kinds of different players together, chocolate and Skittle,
- 19:53that grows. Like my stomach is turning
- 19:56already just thinking about. That I know, but I want to try
- 19:58it. I don't I.
- 20:01Don't I want to put a bowl out for you and see what you.
- 20:04Do yeah. I don't have any Skittles here.
- 20:05I do happen to have some Reese's Pieces though.
- 20:07Oh, ET phone. Yeah, right.
- 20:11Yeah, yeah. I like the Reese's Pieces.
- 20:15They're yummy. As a matter of fact, Reese's
- 20:16Pieces are the next one we're going to talk about.
- 20:18Get Out This Candy is a classic because of its relation to such
- 20:23a classic film of TETI just said that.
- 20:26Said that. The extraterrestrial In case you
- 20:28didn't know what it meant for all those young people
- 20:30listening, this miniature size of the Reese's Peanut Buttercup
- 20:34is similar to the M&M. Of course we know that, except
- 20:37it's all peanut butter. It was first introduced in 1977,
- 20:43but it became very popular in 1982 with the movie.
- 20:46Do you think that that was a purposeful product placement by
- 20:50the Reese's people? I don't know.
- 20:53I mean if it was good for them. I mean, talk about the best
- 20:56product placement they could have had.
- 20:58Like, what a winner. And I remember when that movie
- 20:59came out, I remember like we all of a sudden had Reese's Pieces
- 21:03in our house. Was it just because of that
- 21:04movie? I've never heard of them before.
- 21:06And we saw the movie and all of a sudden there's bags of Reese's
- 21:07Pieces in our. House.
- 21:08I mean, they had to have exploded.
- 21:10Had to exploded. Absolutely.
- 21:12And it was funny, We were at Costco a couple weeks ago.
- 21:16They now have like the gallon size bucket of those things.
- 21:18Yeah, yeah, there's two of them upstairs in our kitchen right
- 21:20now. And you walk by and take
- 21:22handfuls at a time. Oh.
- 21:23White and not handfuls, but we have a cute little dispenser
- 21:25thing and I yeah, that is kind of a handful, I suppose.
- 21:29Yeah, yeah, I love those. I like it better than M&M's.
- 21:32Oh no, I got a head. I like to mix them M&M's and the
- 21:35Reese's. Together.
- 21:36I do like the peanut butter M&M's.
- 21:37Yeah, I think that's. What I'm going for peanut butter
- 21:39M and MI think it's more. Of a peanut butter thing.
- 21:41But I love recent pieces, they're so young.
- 21:43Would you have your peanut butter toast every morning?
- 21:45Only on weekends really. Yeah, every single day I eat
- 21:50peanut butter. Really.
- 21:52On, of course, my wife's famous sourdough bread.
- 21:55Doesn't make a really good sourdough bread so that I mean
- 21:58that is a winning combo. I know I could use a snack right
- 22:00now it's. Probably not doing much for your
- 22:01diet though. Would you see me balloon on in
- 22:03here? I rolled myself in like a big
- 22:06blueberry. Oh, do you remember Zots?
- 22:12I do remember zots. OK, Yeah, I don't.
- 22:15You don't I. Don't.
- 22:16No. I remember seeing this in here.
- 22:17I'm like zots. I've heard of it, but I don't.
- 22:19Remember a Zot the other day? My daughter bought them at at a
- 22:22candy store. She was excited that they had
- 22:24them, so we bought some Zots. Did you go to the world's
- 22:27largest candy store in Jordan, MN?
- 22:28I did not I've. Never been there.
- 22:30You're kidding. I know, right?
- 22:32So my daughter Elise also says she hasn't been there.
- 22:35She was when she's a little child, OK, but we have not been
- 22:38for a very, very long. Time.
- 22:39Maybe we should do that some weekend this fall.
- 22:41OK. Should we record well over
- 22:42there? We should.
- 22:43Well, it is only like 10 minutes from our house.
- 22:44You think we it's like the Mall of America, Like I have no
- 22:46desire to go there. Well, it's just a solid mall of
- 22:50candy. You're right.
- 22:51Like everything you can possibly imagine, all.
- 22:53And they do actually carry a lot of the old old candies that you
- 22:56can't find anywhere. Right, right.
- 22:57We should check that out. OK, so back to the side.
- 22:59So apparently they're first introduced in 1968 in Italy,
- 23:03right? And then it was introduced to
- 23:05the US in 1970. So the candy is known for its
- 23:07hard candy shell and fizzy sour powder center.
- 23:12As soon as you bite into it, the real treat begins bursting with
- 23:14a fizzy powder, activating A satisfying sensation in your
- 23:17mouth that tingles and fizzes much like a soda on your tongue.
- 23:21This combination of a hard exterior and effervescent
- 23:23interior is what sets dots apart.
- 23:26Yes. So I think I haven't had them.
- 23:28I think I've had something similar.
- 23:30It was probably like a knock off like the whole, you know, hubbub
- 23:33bubble Yum is probably sure like dots and like zits or something
- 23:36zits. You had zits.
- 23:38That was something different. Yeah, but but recently when I
- 23:41had my zots, we were both, you know, elites and I were excited.
- 23:44We're gonna try them. Yeah.
- 23:45We we had them. Ohh.
- 23:47It was disappointing. It was gross.
- 23:51I was like, I do not want to eat that again.
- 23:53That was so gross. I didn't like it, but I remember
- 23:55as a kid I liked them. Sure, Zots.
- 23:57Will not be a sponsor anytime soon on our Pride guest.
- 24:00No, sorry, they can't afford us. How about this one?
- 24:05You ready for it, Toaster Strudel?
- 24:08I love toaster strudel. Is the best oh it.
- 24:11Is the best. You squeeze on that little
- 24:13frost. Oh my gosh.
- 24:14And the Apple ones, of course. That was the only one.
- 24:16Really. No, see, I OK well read your
- 24:19thing and we'll get into. Oh, I've I got words to read.
- 24:22Your words to read. Your unassuming toaster became
- 24:24an instant bakery when you popped in a frozen toaster
- 24:28strudel and out came a flaky pastry filled with the warm
- 24:31fruit goodness that you got had to top it with icy sugary icing.
- 24:38Oh. God, yeah, so good.
- 24:39Baked breakfast is they're so. Good.
- 24:43OK, to back to Apple. Yeah, Apple is my favorite.
- 24:46Oh no. No, no, no, you're so wrong.
- 24:48No strawberry, no strawberry cream cheese.
- 24:50Strawberry cream cheese. So the because the apples are
- 24:53real. Well they are real, but the the
- 24:56cream cheese saves it a little bit because of the flavor.
- 24:59Sure, but anything the strawberry, if it's not fresh
- 25:02it's just fake tasting to me. OK, fine, I'll give you that.
- 25:06But be the strawberry, the strawberry with cream cheese,
- 25:08the cherry, the cherry with cream cheese.
- 25:10Those are my. Favorite the Apple one?
- 25:12Yeah, and honestly, I don't care.
- 25:14Even the apple, my favorite part of it is, is the icing, right?
- 25:17They never give you enough. The little packet they should
- 25:19give, they should double the packets.
- 25:20You're only supposed to put a drizzle on there, you're not to
- 25:23dunk it in there. If I'm going to go down the path
- 25:26of eating non healthy, I want double the frosting.
- 25:28All right, we're going to get you double stuffed Oreos.
- 25:32That's double the frost. Don't.
- 25:33Those are good too, right? What about Here's what that's so
- 25:38We're so out of date. Candy.
- 25:39Cigarettes. I remember candy cigarettes.
- 25:42Oh my gosh, so do I. And we would pretend you're
- 25:44smoking. Yes, I get the ones that have
- 25:46the poof. Yeah, and you had the little,
- 25:48the red end and, you know, and you'd, you'd blow through the
- 25:51buffer and the yeah, you'd hold it in your fingers like you're
- 25:54smoking because. Because back then smoking was
- 25:56OK. Smoking was cool like back back
- 25:57in the 70s when we grew up. That's right, smoking was cool.
- 26:00Everybody was smoking. Everyone was smoking.
- 26:02Yeah. So as candy goes out to all the
- 26:05greasers, back in the day, if you wanted to be the coolest kid
- 26:07on the block, you would whip out your very own box of candy
- 26:10cigarettes. And you'd roll them in your
- 26:12sleeves. You would.
- 26:14This is introduced in the earliest early 20th century and
- 26:17is made out of a chalky sugar. They're definitely chalky bubble
- 26:20gum or chocolate wrapped up in paper that resembles cigarettes.
- 26:23The best part was when your candy cigarettes had that light
- 26:25dusty powder powdered sugar so it produced the smoke.
- 26:28Yep, that's right, smoking at 11.
- 26:30That was the You're cool. Oh, you're cool, dude, you're
- 26:33cool. And you wondered why, like
- 26:35smoking was an issue. Like the whole just say no thing
- 26:37in the 80s because you trained us to smoke in the 70s.
- 26:40That's right. How about you remember bottle
- 26:44cap candy? I do I.
- 26:46Do those are good? Bottle cap candy was first
- 26:48introduced in 1972. The candy is known for its disc
- 26:53shaped resembling a soda pop caps.
- 26:56If I could say that any slower then maybe I could read and it's
- 27:035 soda flavors, cherry cola, orange, root beer and grape.
- 27:08See, the root beer always tasted weird to me.
- 27:11Root beer OK In general, root beer is gross.
- 27:16No, but root. Beer barrels.
- 27:17Root beer. Soda.
- 27:18I like root beer. I don't like root beer, so yes,
- 27:21the root beer bottle cap would be a.
- 27:24Root beer float? No, an A&W.
- 27:26Root beer float? No.
- 27:27No, really will not. I don't like the flavor.
- 27:32Our next World trip we are still stopping at A&W and I'm making
- 27:34you get a rope. Your flow.
- 27:35Yeah, but do you want to see it come back?
- 27:37No, I wouldn't throw it up so. Good.
- 27:40They're so good. I like the cherry and the grape.
- 27:42Yeah, those are good. Those are good.
- 27:43OK, so we're gonna go back a couple episodes and I'll see if
- 27:46you remember and see if our listeners remember.
- 27:48What do I remember? Had this conversation, we were
- 27:50talking about what I had for dinner.
- 27:54I bet I know what it. When my wife was out of town,
- 27:55what did I have? I had spaghetti OS.
- 27:59Spaghetti OS, Yeah. So they're first introduced in
- 28:031965 by the Franco American Brand, a subsidiary of
- 28:06Campbell's Soup Company. Sure, I did not know.
- 28:09So this product was created to develop a kid friendly, easy to
- 28:12eat pasta dish. The idea for Spaghetti OS came
- 28:16from the need to create a canned pasta that was easy for children
- 28:19to eat without making a mess. It was decided on the O shape
- 28:22because it was durable for canning and reheating, stayed on
- 28:25the spoon, and it was less messy than other shapes.
- 28:28The iconic Oh Spaghetti O's Jingle debuted debuted in the
- 28:33first Spaghetti O commercials of the same year.
- 28:35OK, come on now. I don't like spaghetti OS.
- 28:39They're gross. They're.
- 28:40Not gross. I, we're going to, we're going
- 28:42to have to agree to disagree because you eat them.
- 28:45And I'm just like appalled. But yet then I eat all the other
- 28:48sugary snacks. That is true.
- 28:49That is true. That is true.
- 28:50I I do like the spaghettios with meatballs.
- 28:52I do have specific spaghetti I have to go with.
- 28:55OK, I understand. I remember I ate them when I was
- 28:57a kid. All the time.
- 28:58Yeah, but no, not I would not eat them now.
- 29:01Say can of Spaghettios and a little half of a peanut butter
- 29:03sandwich. That is not healthy dude.
- 29:06So good. There's lots of protein.
- 29:08Yeah, no, it's still, it's flushes right out the other end
- 29:10it doesn't it? Does show me your proof of this?
- 29:17No, it's pro protein in the peanut butter.
- 29:18You haven't you? The guy owes a peanut butter
- 29:20sandwich every morning for breakfast.
- 29:21Sandwich. Just toast.
- 29:22OK, it's peanut butter on bread. It's a sandwich.
- 29:24It's not a sandwich. You don't close it together.
- 29:26Oh my God, you're eating bread and peanut butter?
- 29:29And don't forget the butter. You have to have butter with.
- 29:30Oh my God. Some bread, butter and peanut
- 29:34butter correct? And I'm the unhealthy 1.
- 29:37I've been. Talking about how?
- 29:38I'm unhealthy. I already know I'm on healthy,
- 29:40right? So, you know, we just talked
- 29:44about this a minute ago, but Nerds, Yeah, this American candy
- 29:48gave a whole new meaning to the term nerd nerd.
- 29:51Created by Nestle, the unusual shapes and sweetness to this
- 29:55little tiny candy made it very popular.
- 29:58Nerds was first introduced in 1983, became a candy of the year
- 30:03by National Candy Wholesalers Association in 1985.
- 30:07That's interesting. This sugary little box packed a
- 30:10punch with every bite. Essentially in 1983, you know
- 30:13the movie Revenge of the Nerds came out.
- 30:14In 82 it did. So I wonder if there was a
- 30:17correlation between. I don't know how they got to the
- 30:20name, you know, nerds, but I actually, I liked them when they
- 30:24first came out, but I was like no big deal.
- 30:26But you know what I mentioned earlier, but the nerd clusters,
- 30:30Yeah, I like them. Yeah.
- 30:32They're like sweet and sour and crunchy and gummy and all the
- 30:35goodness right there. You know what I really like
- 30:38Nerds is right now around Halloween because you get the
- 30:40little nerd boxes, Yeah, the title boxes, and you can
- 30:42literally open that box up, but it's go.
- 30:44That's like taking a shot of Nerds.
- 30:45Yeah, and in what happens, it's like it's a instant rush of
- 30:49sweetness and sour in same time at the same time.
- 30:51Yeah, and then your blood sugar goes through the roof.
- 30:54Through the roof? Yep, love Halloween.
- 30:56Speaking of Halloween, Twix bars.
- 30:58Oh, I love I. Love a Twix?
- 30:59Yeah, so this is delicious. Chocolate bar made by Mars
- 31:02Incorporated has one of the hearts of many throughout the
- 31:04years. A biscuit, some caramel and
- 31:07covered in chocolate. Who could resist?
- 31:09This wonderful candy bar was first created in the United
- 31:12Kingdom in 1967 and was later introduced the US in 1979.
- 31:16I can't believe it was that long ago. 1979 Twix bars came out.
- 31:19I mean, I've been around as far as I can remember.
- 31:21Well, yeah, 'cause you're, you're much younger than me.
- 31:24I'm a 70s child. A 70s child, yeah.
- 31:26So a little fun fact. Though what is it?
- 31:28Did you know that Twix was actually called Raider in Europe
- 31:31before it's name change in 1991? Raider.
- 31:34That's what it says. Raider.
- 31:35The name Twix is a blend of 2 words, Twin biscuits or twin
- 31:39Bix. Twin Bix there you.
- 31:42Go Twin Bix Twix. There you go.
- 31:44There's your trivia tidbit of the day.
- 31:46So save that for the next trivia podcast.
- 31:48Lord, I'm gonna totally forget it by then.
- 31:50No, but you ask the question. I'm like, I don't know I've.
- 31:53Never heard about that before. It is.
- 31:56That was all 22. Yeah, exactly.
- 31:59How about pop rock? Like Pop Rocks?
- 32:01I like to pop. I like pop rocks.
- 32:03This candy defied it all by having the candy pop and crack
- 32:08while dissolving away into a sugary deliciousness.
- 32:12Yeah, it didn't. Dissolve and burst.
- 32:14I think it dissolved eventually after all the carbonation
- 32:16eventually. This carbonated candy was all
- 32:19the buzz in 1975 and has had its upgrades over ever since.
- 32:24It differs from the typical hard candy in that pressurized carbon
- 32:28dioxide gas bubbles are embedded inside the candy, creating a
- 32:32small popping reaction when it dissolves.
- 32:35Really. I did not know that.
- 32:37I didn't know how they made it. Yeah, that was interesting.
- 32:39When? I was very.
- 32:39Interested, but I just loved you pour the whole for Oh my God in
- 32:44your mouth at one time and it's like you almost couldn't take
- 32:47it. No, it was popping.
- 32:49It was way too much all over it, but then, but after you're done
- 32:51with like that was cool. Let's do it again.
- 32:53You know, it's funny if you if you put a whole bunch in there
- 32:54and then you lift your mouth to the sky, you can like literally.
- 32:57See. Oh yeah, that like the.
- 32:59Flames shooting up, shooting, yeah, got it.
- 33:01Yeah, that that was a. Cool.
- 33:02And I heard, I don't remember if I ever do this, but if you do
- 33:04them in the dark, OK, you can see it actually actually played
- 33:08up. Really.
- 33:09We told you to try that. OK, turn the lights off.
- 33:13Why did we not bring any of these candies here to try?
- 33:15I know we should have. We should have been crunching
- 33:16them right along with it, absolutely.
- 33:18What about SAR Patch Kids? I like sour patch.
- 33:21Kids. Yeah.
- 33:22So in 85, Sour Patch Kids were the most popular candy,
- 33:26capitalizing on the Cabbage Patch doll craze.
- 33:28Did not know that. I didn't know that either.
- 33:31I had no idea. Well, the candy itself
- 33:32originated in the 70s as Mars Men.
- 33:35It was rebranded and gained significant popularity in the US
- 33:38market in 1985, along with Airheads, another popular candy
- 33:42in 85. Yeah, I can see how it's called
- 33:44Mars men because they were little.
- 33:45Yeah. People shaped.
- 33:46Yeah. Like the candies.
- 33:47Yeah. But the, the sour, you know, and
- 33:50sometimes now when you get those sour candies, you, some of them
- 33:53you can't even take. No, like it's overwhelmingly
- 33:55sour, right. And yet I eat them.
- 33:57All the time, yeah. Yeah, I would always like to
- 33:59kind of suck on them until the sour is gone and then you have
- 34:01just the gummy left. Yeah.
- 34:02And then I got to point. Through that sour phase and then
- 34:05you go for the sweet after. And then at that point I started
- 34:07buying gummy worms 'cause that pretty much just, you know, I
- 34:10was defeating the purpose of the sour patch.
- 34:14How about this one Whatchamacallit?
- 34:16Your what hurts, yeah. You're right.
- 34:18I said the Whatchamacallit. Yeah.
- 34:20The first version of the Whatchamacallit candy bar was
- 34:23released by the Hershey Company in 1978.
- 34:26It initially it featured a peanut butter crisp covered in
- 34:29chocolate. In 1987, the recipe was modified
- 34:32to include caramel and a chocolatey coating, creating the
- 34:36version that we are familiar with today.
- 34:37Oh, I didn't know about the peanut butter part.
- 34:39No, I didn't either. You know what?
- 34:41I do remember seeing a peanut butter whatchamacallit.
- 34:42I bet you that's what happened is they made the first one when
- 34:45they change the recipe. Then they went back and said
- 34:46hey, we should do this one too. Yeah, I I just got to imagine,
- 34:49though, when they were, he created this candy bar and
- 34:52they're trying to name it and what, you know, they're sitting
- 34:55in a big meeting, the boardrooms, everything.
- 34:56Well, what are we going to call it?
- 34:57And somebody couldn't remember what it was, and they probably
- 35:00just blurted out, you know, that watch them call it and it's
- 35:03stuck. That's stuck.
- 35:04I mean, I have to imagine that's how it happened.
- 35:06I so distinctly remember those commercials.
- 35:08Like they had TV commercials and that was like, that was the
- 35:10thing. Like they went back and forth.
- 35:12Watch them call it is like like the who's on 1st routine.
- 35:14Right. Sure, sure.
- 35:15Yeah, and they did the whole thing.
- 35:16I watched them call it so, yeah. But I like them.
- 35:18Yeah, those are very good. They're very delicious.
- 35:21Remember, Blow Pops. I love blow pops.
- 35:23So, first introduced in 73 by the Charms Candy Company,
- 35:27they're initially called Triple Treat by their inventor Thomas T
- 35:31Tidwell. That's such a made-up name, he's
- 35:34not real. Who patented the idea?
- 35:37In 1966, Trump's acquired the rights of the candy and
- 35:40rebranded it as a bull pup, making it a popular lollipop
- 35:43with a bubble gum center. Now how come it's a triple
- 35:45treat? What?
- 35:46Where's the I only see 2? Pieces here, yeah, I see the
- 35:49outer and then I see the gum. Yeah, it's the outer candy
- 35:52coating and then the gum. Where's the third treat?
- 35:55Well, I think the name Thomas T Tidwell he had, he had three T's
- 35:58in there somehow. Triple T?
- 36:02Yeah, he was a that's a fake name alliteration with the T's
- 36:05fake name. How about pizza?
- 36:07Rolls love me a pizza roll. Yeah, pizza rolls.
- 36:10Pizza rolls are a frozen food product consisting of bite sized
- 36:14breaded pizza pockets with an interior of tomato sauce and
- 36:18cheese and a various pizza toppings.
- 36:19And again, volcano inside. Yep.
- 36:22The the hot filling inside with crispy shell creates A deceptive
- 36:27temperature difference, leading to a scalded palate.
- 36:32It's a rite of passage for a pizza roll enthusiast, though.
- 36:35Love pizza roll, but you always have to bite a corner and then
- 36:37lose. Hold on to it for three minutes
- 36:39and blow into the damn thing. Right and then what's the just
- 36:41so you. Eat it.
- 36:41I don't. Then what's the point, right?
- 36:43So you have to sit there and try to clean up because you've
- 36:44already learned your lesson. Yeah, by that burn in your
- 36:47mouth. So here's what's interesting.
- 36:48We got an air fire probably about a month ago.
- 36:50The one is you started a fire. Yes, that one.
- 36:52I started a fire. So we're we're we're nude.
- 36:54Thanks for thanks for bringing that back up.
- 36:55Yeah. So we're new to the whole air
- 36:58fire game. And we've heard rumors from our
- 37:01children that we need to try pizza rolls in the air fire.
- 37:05Is it good? I don't know.
- 37:06We haven't done it yet. And they're like, yes, we need
- 37:08to try pizza rolls. So that's on my agenda this
- 37:10weekend. You're having pizza rolls this
- 37:12weekend. Pizza rolls in the air.
- 37:13Fire this weekend and I'll report back next week.
- 37:15OK, That's on the agenda. All right, you heard it
- 37:17everybody All right, so. Let you know, all right,
- 37:21Blizzards. Oh I love a good Blizzard.
- 37:23Don't get the snow blower out, no.
- 37:25No, no, no. The tree Blizzard.
- 37:27The tree. The Dairy Queen tree.
- 37:28Blizzard. Oh shit here I think we switched
- 37:31over talking about Minnesota again.
- 37:32Right. No.
- 37:33So it's kind of hard to imagine a time without it though, right?
- 37:36Right. Seems like that was.
- 37:37Always there, always been there. But they haven't.
- 37:39So the soft serve ice cream dessert they had, the flavor
- 37:42pack treat only launched back in 1985.
- 37:45Wow really. Yeah.
- 37:46So Dairy Queen reportedly sold 175,000,000 Blizzards that first
- 37:50year. Wow.
- 37:51And they're still devoured with the same enthusiasm today.
- 37:54You also still find a DQ employee serving the treat
- 37:56upside down. That was the thing.
- 37:58Just to prove all thick and creamy it is.
- 37:59Yeah. Yeah.
- 38:00There's a why. And they actually did this a
- 38:01couple years ago. My daughter worked at Dairy
- 38:02Queen for a little bit. And that was the thing they they
- 38:05brought it back where they had to hand it to you upside down or
- 38:07it was free. Right, exactly.
- 38:09That was a a promotion I suppose.
- 38:10It was kind of funny 'cause they go flip, flip like it was upside
- 38:13down for like half a second second.
- 38:15That wouldn't fall out if you tried, that's all.
- 38:19But I thought it was funny. One last thing we're going to
- 38:21talk about here is what about cereals?
- 38:24You remember the Frankenberry and blueberry and Count Chocula
- 38:27cereals? It's.
- 38:28Halloween time, so of course. I know.
- 38:31So originally there were 4 or maybe 5 flavors that came out.
- 38:35Yeah, the core 3 flavors, of course, which was Frankenberry,
- 38:38blueberry and Count Chocula, but in production.
- 38:42But General Mills later introduced 2 more flavors of
- 38:46monster cereal, the Fruit Brut which is the werewolf themed,
- 38:50and then Fruity Yummy Mummy in 1988 which actually replaced
- 38:55Fruit Brut. I have heard of neither one of
- 38:57those two. I remember the mummy one, but my
- 39:00favorite was the Frankenberry. Well, there's probably a reason
- 39:04those two didn't last, because nobody knows them anymore.
- 39:07Joe Sure. But you know, there was a
- 39:09controversial moment about that. It's cereal, yeah.
- 39:12OK, in a bizarre incident in 1972, the Frankenberry cereal
- 39:17was reformulated to remove an ingredient indigestible pigment
- 39:22that was turning some children's feces pink.
- 39:26Color. No lie.
- 39:29No lie. They had the.
- 39:30Symptom became known as Frank and Berry stool.
- 39:34They had pink poop. They had pink poo and actually a
- 39:36few kids went to the ER with their Technicolor pink poop.
- 39:41Not that I wish that anybody, but I I can't wait to see that.
- 39:44I know how much Frankenberry can I eat, right if I get pink poop,
- 39:48right? Exactly.
- 39:50But the change in production, you know, over the decades the
- 39:54cereal are now is now only available around the Halloween
- 39:57time if you're like it is now. It was available.
- 39:59Year round for a while, though for a long time it was year
- 40:01round because that was my favorite cereal, OK?
- 40:03OK. Frankenberry was mine.
- 40:04OK, And my sister would eat blueberry.
- 40:07OK, So if we go to the store and we could pick out anything we
- 40:09wanted, right? I picked Frankenberry.
- 40:11Nice, Nice. Well, it is October.
- 40:13You can find it now. I have seen it in the store.
- 40:15Have you? I have So.
- 40:17Sadly, I'm still not going to eat.
- 40:18It OK, so on your way home. So I should get some stop.
- 40:21Get some pink poo. But I think that's pretty much a
- 40:27nice snack flashback. Yeah, absolutely is, yeah.
- 40:30Covered a few things that we liked.
- 40:31Yeah, a few of the weird candies and snacks out there.
- 40:35Yeah, a few of our favorites. Some of our favorites.
- 40:38I do have a new favorite now though.
- 40:39It's the dots pretzels. Oh dots pretzels are amazing.
- 40:42We found a new garbage garbage on garlic parmesan at Costco
- 40:46last weekend. I haven't tried garlic crumbs on
- 40:48my. God do we have some.
- 40:49You should try some before you go.
- 40:50OK, so I can put that with my Doritos that I.
- 40:53Put with your Doritos you're eating.
- 40:54Yeah. Because those are phenomenal,
- 40:55Yeah. It's awesome, all right.
