Transcript
- 0:10Welcome. To episode 7 of Bradders
- 0:14Graphers. I am of course Bradders because
- 0:18why would I call a show anything else on this edition?
- 0:24We are going to be looking back at Salford City Wrestling from
- 0:30last Friday night. However, I am not alone.
- 0:36I am joined because I have actually written a little
- 0:40introduction which could go horribly wrong, but we'll we'll
- 0:45stick with it anyway. So tonight's special guest, they
- 0:49are the head of digital events for premier battles of the UK
- 0:55battle rap scene. He was the 7th best UK battle
- 1:01rapper of 2024. So because of that, he's
- 1:06appearing on the 7th episode and hoping to make it a magnificent
- 1:121. Ladies and gentlemen, Gaz Buff.
- 1:17This will be the thing that pushes me into top five, yes.
- 1:20That's that's where we're kind of going.
- 1:22So it's not the PWI we're going to move you up them rankings.
- 1:26Absolutely. Thank you for having me, man.
- 1:27I'm looking forward to this. Well, good to have you.
- 1:32So I'll ask you before we get into what happened Friday night,
- 1:38was this your first Salford show or was it the.
- 1:42Second, no, this was my very first Salford City wrestling
- 1:45show I've been living in up here in sunny Salford for the past
- 1:49year or so. I keep meaning to go to SCW and
- 1:52they have this horrible annoying habit of selling out every show
- 1:56so I keep missing out on getting tickets but luckily I was able
- 1:59to snatch some this time. It's it is a horrible thing.
- 2:03I found wrestling shows when they sell out.
- 2:06It's very impolite. The the bastards, but as and it
- 2:13was the sixth straight sell out for Salford, which in kind of
- 2:20this day and age of kind of entertainment and things, to
- 2:24have something selling out every time is a massive achievement.
- 2:32So we will. I mean, where's the best place
- 2:36to start? Well, I mean, like first thing I
- 2:39want to say, like selling out that venue in particular is
- 2:41impressive to me because it's not like they're running shows
- 2:43in a cupboard like the venue they're selling in.
- 2:47It's so nice. I love the the division between
- 2:50like the bar and the ring area. I like the distribution of
- 2:53seats, how roomy it is, how space it is, the stage set up.
- 2:57It just looks great. And I'm sure it will look great
- 3:00on camera as well. The the one thing I do love now
- 3:05with the entrances is how everyone is very well prepared
- 3:11to when they stand on the middle rope, because on the first show
- 3:17Bentley smashed his head off one of the beams above the ring.
- 3:22Yes, that's a very awkwardly placed beam on one side of the
- 3:25ring specifically. So there was one specific corner
- 3:30that like this is the top rope corner.
- 3:33The other one, you'll have your back to the camera.
- 3:36Don't really want that. If you can do the big thing, you
- 3:38want to have this other words like beam, beam.
- 3:42Now let's jump from here. Yeah, it's, it is great when you
- 3:45see the high Flyers especially kind of like Dave Burt where the
- 3:49first couple of shows he would go to do like a springboard drop
- 3:55kick from the top rope and then he would purposely look above
- 4:01and think, Nope, that ain't going to work for me, brother.
- 4:05I will go to the other side. So then they will obviously
- 4:10perform something and he will do the move from the other side
- 4:14where he has so much room to do it.
- 4:19It is a nice little quirk to have, I feel.
- 4:23I mean who wants massive venues with like plenty of space?
- 4:28I will say I thought people were very brave doing all the
- 4:31springboards they did because there were a couple of matches
- 4:33early where people would just be running the ropes and I was
- 4:37like, man, those ropes are really slack.
- 4:39I wonder why they haven't tightened them.
- 4:40And then someone hit them particularly hard and I swear
- 4:43the entire ring tilted tilt it's.
- 4:48I mean from from your view, because you is where I watched
- 4:52the first couple of shows you're from like the the stage kind of
- 4:57side where the the majority of the seats are.
- 5:01Yeah, I'm, I'm tucked away just below the production desk.
- 5:03Yes. So from there you don't really
- 5:08get a true sense of kind of like how the ring is when you're like
- 5:16where I am towards like the bar side, you kind of see how like
- 5:20the ring's been put together. It it is kind of on a almost on
- 5:28a bit of AAV in a way because you will see the ring kind of
- 5:33tilt. Oh, really?
- 5:36But in the sense of it's not dangerously kind of, I mean for
- 5:41those who have really. Yeah, I don't want to say like
- 5:43it came across as like slapdasher, unsafe or anything.
- 5:46Like the rings being perfectly put together, it was perfectly
- 5:48fine. But there was like I was just
- 5:49like, wow, those those ropes are taught in the way they need to
- 5:53be. Fair enough.
- 5:54I I've made this point many a time it's it does at times feel
- 6:00like the ring is going to tilt, but I mean thankfully the
- 6:04underneath of the ring holds it in place so that that is 1 very
- 6:09good thing at least. I will say this before the show
- 6:15started and I know if ref Steve Grimshaw is listening he might
- 6:20try and kill me, but he took the first bump within 8 minutes of
- 6:27the doors opening because he was stepping down from the staging
- 6:33area. Yes, I recall this distinctly.
- 6:36Trod on what was kind of like a footstool.
- 6:41It did not look safe remotely and as soon as Steve put 1 foot
- 6:48on it, it collapsed. However, I have never seen a man
- 6:54style it out so much in my life. I mean, he could easel.
- 7:01It was obviously. It's a terrible thing.
- 7:05It could have been a far worse incident.
- 7:10He could have, really. Injured himself.
- 7:13It was like a spiral tap where he landed on his feet.
- 7:19But the thing that we had referees on and Alfie doing the
- 7:30the photos and it's, I mean, it's almost like when you see
- 7:37like a bloke get kicked in the balls.
- 7:39When it's not you, it's hilarious.
- 7:43But when it is you, it ain't that much fun.
- 7:48And watching Refste, looking up with the sense of embarrassment,
- 7:56bless him. And having Reese immediately
- 7:59take his phone out and take a picture of him.
- 8:04I mean, bless him. Bless thee.
- 8:08I love thee to death. But yeah, in a way that was a
- 8:15blessing in disguise because if one of the wrestlers had come on
- 8:20that and injured themselves. 100%, yeah.
- 8:24Not that we're saying we don't think less of refs, but yeah,
- 8:29let's move on from that point. So as we said, this was the 6th
- 8:37show run by Salford City Wrestling.
- 8:42This was a really good show. I have to say.
- 8:46The show seemed to get better and better with Salford for
- 8:51those that can make them and if you can't, I very much advise
- 8:57you to try and get tickets for the next show.
- 9:03But we will come to that at the end of things.
- 9:09So the opening contest was Natalie Sykes, the 21st century
- 9:16liability, taking on Harley Harris.
- 9:23I thought this was a really solid opener.
- 9:25It was fantastic, like for an opener, like they had the crowd
- 9:29in the palm of their hands from the start.
- 9:31Like they're such big characters and they're such hard hitting
- 9:35characters as well. Like from the bell, like the
- 9:40crowd work that Natalie was doing with like the little kids
- 9:43and everything. And, and the kids were very well
- 9:46behaved. Like I've been to a lot of shows
- 9:48in the Southwest, like especially ones where they kind
- 9:51of encourage the kids to be like a bit rambunctious with the
- 9:54heels and things like, and I've seen some kids give some
- 9:58wrestlers a proper kicking, but the kids were really well
- 10:01behaved. I thought like there was the
- 10:05vibe was just great across the ground.
- 10:07The. Thing I noticed with kind of
- 10:10what the selfish shows of it's always like very well behaved
- 10:15and as the night goes on it can get progressively rowdy with the
- 10:21kids. Thankfully that did not happen.
- 10:25Saying that though, as much as kind of Harley Harris was a big
- 10:32kind of opponent for for Natalie Sykes, I think the true opponent
- 10:39that was far more fearsome for her was in the shape of a little
- 10:47girl that ran up to her. Yeah.
- 10:50From from the terrifying aura, it is one of those things of if
- 10:57a wrestler gets touched or gets hit, we always say do not do
- 11:02that. It's a Dick move.
- 11:04However, there are very, very small occasions and seeing a
- 11:12little girl who in fairness Nat started it first by saying loser
- 11:18to her and giving giving her abuse.
- 11:23The little girl, who was in the form of Scrappy Doo, I felt,
- 11:31began to give Natalie a bit of a thrashing and proceeded to chase
- 11:36her around the venue with Sykes getting back in the ring, not
- 11:43saying she was blown up from running around.
- 11:47Oh, she, she went at speed. I.
- 11:50Don't think she expected her to carry on being chased to rich,
- 11:55Harley says to her in the ring. Are you done?
- 11:58Are you ready? And Sykes kind of just looked up
- 12:02at her and began smiling and trying not to to laugh
- 12:08considering she was the heel in this match and almost had to
- 12:12take a few seconds just to compose herself.
- 12:17But besides that, yeah, I I am a massive fan of Natalie Sykes.
- 12:25I've seen her on a few shows now.
- 12:28She plays the the heel role superbly.
- 12:33She will always get the crowd booing her, if it's a bit quiet
- 12:38she will do something to try and generate a noise and again,
- 12:46sometimes the opening match can lead to the crowd not fully
- 12:52getting their voice so to speak. However, Sykes, with how she is
- 12:59anyway, managed to kind of like get the crowd going and in
- 13:05fairness, didn't need to try that hard because the crowd
- 13:09seems to be very much up for this from the beginning.
- 13:16I mean, so just kind of like looking through a couple of
- 13:21notes I've got, I will say, yeah.
- 13:24Just to just to follow on from your point, I so like I am very
- 13:28much ripping the Band-Aid off. I am diving back into the
- 13:30Northern Indies. God knows I had a bit of a dry
- 13:32spell for a while, so this was the first time I've seen Sykes
- 13:36and I just thought she was fantastic.
- 13:38She's one of those people that has such a good grasp on what
- 13:41her character is supposed to be that she conveys what she is,
- 13:46what role she plays. The second she's out the
- 13:48curtain, she comes out like, you know, back arched, head, back
- 13:52pouted lips, selfie phone and it's like right heel Boo.
- 13:57It immediately conveyed and she kind.
- 14:01Of like bratty kind of that's kind of where it feels like
- 14:07she's she started from, but she just built that character.
- 14:11Yeah, and 21st Lights 21st Century Liability is a banger of
- 14:15a nickname. That's so good.
- 14:17Plus, it only dawned on me the other week, kind of like the
- 14:21song is by Youngblood and I thought, Oh yeah, that's what
- 14:26she comes out to. 21st to which for me, a lot of things go over
- 14:32my head and this was one of them until it played on Spotify the
- 14:36other week as random and I thought, Oh yeah, that makes so
- 14:40much sense. Well, but that's me.
- 14:47I was going to say something I've, oh, that was it times.
- 14:51I will say I've seen her very loosely play kind of the
- 14:56babyface on one-on-one or two shows, and she does that.
- 15:03So she does that equally as well as being heel.
- 15:09But I think heel is her best kind of version of herself.
- 15:16It's just the way she can control a crowd, a match, even
- 15:23in like the heel style. Just whenever I see her on a
- 15:30card immediately I'm almost like here's my money because I know
- 15:35I'm going to be entertained for that duration 100%.
- 15:39And this was this was one of those matches.
- 15:43One thing I love from Sykes matches is when she will hit an
- 15:49RKO, she hits that move so beautifully.
- 15:55It's it's on a par nailer of how hardcore Holly used to do a drop
- 16:00kick. It's almost like there is
- 16:02nothing to him but he'd have that one drop kick which was
- 16:07beautiful to watch with Sykes. She has so much in her arsenal,
- 16:12but when she hits that it's always picture book.
- 16:17It's picture perfect. Is there anything you can recall
- 16:24from this match? But I just was going to say I
- 16:27think we should talk about how good Harley Harris was.
- 16:28That takes 2 to tango. Like like I thought Harley was
- 16:32fantastic as well as the babyface.
- 16:34Like the one where she's clearly the one that's like the heavier
- 16:38hitter. Her blows mean more, which is
- 16:40what you want from a babyface say, but he was meant to be in
- 16:43control of the match for 70%. You want to believe that when
- 16:46the babyface gets those shots here, they are doing more damage
- 16:50in the grand scheme of believability and everything.
- 16:53And like, you can fully believe the way that Harley responds to
- 16:57moves, her move set what it is, You can fully believe that one
- 17:01Harris blow is worth 10 psych explos.
- 17:03It's perfectly believable and she was fantastic.
- 17:07Harley, I think, I'm trying to think if she came on the 2nd or
- 17:10the 3rd show. I think it was the third show,
- 17:14but she's been a mainstay ever since and she's she's almost
- 17:20been. I don't want to say a lot
- 17:22because that's the wrong term, but with the like the women's
- 17:27story we've had, which has been effectively Alfie, Lilly Winter
- 17:32and Natalie Sykes, the inclusion of Harley almost as like from
- 17:38the outside into this story, she has played her part really well
- 17:44as well. And every match she's had so
- 17:48far, as you say, like one strike of hers feels like it's equal to
- 17:55about 5 or 10 of the others. But considering she's like the
- 18:03babyface, she's she does a great job as well of being in peril,
- 18:11especially if you've like you have sexes.
- 18:15They're much kind of smaller, maybe not so much stronger of
- 18:23the two. Wyler, yes, Wyler.
- 18:27I'm trying to think of other words, but words are failing me
- 18:31like most times. But Harley really puts the the
- 18:37opponent over as being really kind of I mean Sykes is
- 18:42impressive anyway, but Harley just makes whoever she's in the
- 18:47ring with that much better. And again, this was as much as
- 18:54Harley and Natalie together. They just always seem to put on
- 19:00really good matches. So I'm sure these two will will
- 19:06meet again down the down the road.
- 19:12The winner of this match, I will say was I can't even read my
- 19:19notes, was Harley Harris. Of course it was to which I
- 19:26completely forgot the main objective of this match where
- 19:31the if Natalie was to lose, she would be barred from ringside
- 19:38for the Queen of Salford final which was between Alfie and Lily
- 19:43Winter. More on that later.
- 19:46So Natalie loses, which means that she will be missing from
- 19:54the main event. Of course, we know that this is
- 19:57wrestling. Harris wins with a spinebuster
- 20:03and then followed up with a Pedigree for the 1-2 and the
- 20:09three. Match number 21.
- 20:14One thing I will say Peter, just before we go on to Match 2, you
- 20:17would not have those problems of not knowing why a match was
- 20:20happening and what was at stake because they do this incredible
- 20:24thing which I have not seen any other promotion do.
- 20:27Please do correct me if another promotion does do this because I
- 20:30want to encourage it. Every seat in the venue had a
- 20:35full rundown of the card, a welcome to why we're here, full
- 20:39card rundown, a little blurb of who everyone is, what momentum
- 20:44they've got, previous feuds they're involved in, why they're
- 20:47fighting stipulation. Full A4 sheet and it was
- 20:50fantastic. I was like, this is great, I'm
- 20:53in, I'm invested, I know everything, I'm fully up to
- 20:56speed. Nothing here is too complicated,
- 20:59it's all the context I need. Loved it. 10 out of 10 please
- 21:03continue this. More companies please do this.
- 21:06So yeah, I completely forgot about this.
- 21:11So it has been mentioned previously here and on the
- 21:16Pencilled In podcast that I have previously done with Nikki, to
- 21:21which Nikki loves this completely because it's great,
- 21:27especially if you have no idea what to expect when you turn up.
- 21:32You literally get this sheet has the the match card on it gives
- 21:38you a description of a little kind of bullet points of this is
- 21:44such a person. They have done this in the past
- 21:48and it kind of tells you the storyline going into the show.
- 21:55The only other place that I have seen this being used is Atomic
- 22:02in Liverpool. I know they did it for the, I
- 22:07think it's for the anniversary show that they did this year.
- 22:13But as you said, it is a great idea for promotions both old and
- 22:19new because you're always going to get new people coming into
- 22:24shows that have possibly never been to a wrestling show before.
- 22:29You turn up and get this sheet, you see who's on who's on the
- 22:34card. You immediately know who is
- 22:37going to be the bad guy, who's going to be the goody because
- 22:42it'll kind of give you a bit of a loose picture, so to speak and
- 22:48explain kind of like this is this person here's kind of like
- 22:54what the stakes are, but. As you say, it is a really good
- 23:00idea. Hopefully it it does take off
- 23:04because as you say, it's a great idea.
- 23:08I just think it's very good marketing as well.
- 23:09Like for me to be able to show other people that this company
- 23:12does this so you can just come along like when Soft Pro was
- 23:15running shows regularly. I'm sure you'll recall I did the
- 23:18Gast forward series, which was here's a match on the card.
- 23:21Here's the back story to it with clips, all the context you need
- 23:25in as close to a minute as I can get it so that it's fully
- 23:29digestible. And part of that came from when
- 23:32I lived in Bristol. I put off going to Pro Wrestling
- 23:35Chaos for the longest time because I knew they were a very
- 23:38story heavy company, like fantastic wrestlers, fantastic
- 23:41matches. But I always had this
- 23:43apprehension that I'd be going into it and feeling lost.
- 23:46I'd be like, I feel like I'm coming into something in the
- 23:48middle of it. And then I finally went to a
- 23:50Chaos show and it was great start to finish.
- 23:53Everything that I needed was right there.
- 23:55The context was there because all the wrestlers are fantastic
- 23:58storytellers. They told me everything I needed
- 24:00to know in the ring. And I was like, why was I
- 24:03apprehensive? And it just made me thought,
- 24:06like, there might be other people in that same position of
- 24:09me when they've almost got FOMO from the shows they haven't gone
- 24:13to. And they kind of just need to,
- 24:15they need to know, yeah, just go.
- 24:17You don't, Don't worry about it. Thing as well of I feel with a
- 24:22few promotional, a fair few promotions, I should say, where
- 24:26when they build matches up, it's kind of they just hope it's
- 24:32going to be name value that draws you in, where I'll just be
- 24:36kind of like this person, be this person.
- 24:40And it's just like, OK, is am I meant to know kind of like who
- 24:46they are or what's the whole story?
- 24:50And but one thing that Sulphy do is they will kind of build the
- 24:56story off screen as well. So one match we'll come to later
- 25:04for the in the tag team match, Jack Baron and Philip Michael,
- 25:10they've been doing a great job of Baron trying to get Philip
- 25:16Michael to kind of bring the Zumba weights back together.
- 25:21And they use social media so well to kind of tell a story
- 25:27beforehand. So when promotions can do that,
- 25:32it helps so much, I feel, to just make you want to buy a
- 25:37ticket to a show. Absolutely.
- 25:41So as I say, we will come to match #2 The King's Gauntlet.
- 25:47And for the first few minutes it was a bit like a Royal Rumble
- 25:53where people come in and people very quickly get eliminated.
- 26:01Because if we, I think if you've been watching the show, you, you
- 26:05knew in a sense where this was going to be heading.
- 26:09For sure. Just for context, it opened with
- 26:13Jensen Vesper literally rolling out a red carpet bringing out
- 26:17King Troy Ryan to oversee this battle Royale on this beautiful
- 26:22throne on the stage, Jensen plays such an incredible,
- 26:28sycophantic little bastard. I loved him.
- 26:33It's in fairness though, in for some people playing that role is
- 26:39so difficult, but for Jensen that is effectively just him.
- 26:45That's not even him trying to become that character.
- 26:49That is literally how he how he is.
- 26:55So the fact obviously I'm more familiar with Troy Ryan as part
- 26:58of Meat Waggon, so getting to see him like doing this
- 27:01character with the big flag, the crown or smug demeanour.
- 27:06Fantastic, It's so different and it's it's so nice, but it's just
- 27:10so simple at the court. It's great.
- 27:13So I mean the I've I've chatted to try a few times because I'm,
- 27:21I mean officially I am the only person that cheers for him.
- 27:24It's SOF pro, Salford, Salford. Sorry, because everyone hates
- 27:31all the shirts that get put out are always not my king and
- 27:36because I'm a big fan of like Meat Waggon and it's and it's
- 27:42Troy, I thought, you know what? This will be the only show where
- 27:47I will actually cheer a heel. You've got to have a contrarian
- 27:52in the crowd. It makes you so much sweeter.
- 27:57Token Monarchist. When he won the King of Salford
- 28:11match, he got the world's smallest Cape, which did not fit
- 28:16him to begin with. And obviously being king you get
- 28:22more money. So he got a brand new Cape,
- 28:25which I mean you look at Troy Ryan and you looked at the Cape,
- 28:34it looked like a kind of like a napkin the Cape compared to
- 28:38someone that beefy. So you need to kind of just make
- 28:44it bigger the Cape and thankfully they did.
- 28:48The crown broke on the second show and has and if you look
- 28:55very closely you will see the elastic on the crown just to
- 29:01keep it in place. God bless British wrestling.
- 29:05I love you so. We've joked so many times about
- 29:10that crown when you're showing it me.
- 29:14But but enough disparaging the the monarchy.
- 29:18There's a lot of stuff I love about SCWS because you can tell
- 29:20a lot of things have kind of been in response to all right,
- 29:23lesson learned. Like the fact they've always got
- 29:25someone on hand to pull the curtain to because everyone does
- 29:29the dramatic push in the intro. It's also the thing for me of
- 29:35the biggest villain or the biggest opponent that wrestlers
- 29:39have. No matter what promotion that
- 29:43you see. It could be kind of like the top
- 29:46levels of like a Progress or a Rev Pro or kind of like starting
- 29:52out on trainee shows. Wrestlers hate the curtain
- 30:00because they can never find where the curtain actually
- 30:03opens. The amount of times I've seen
- 30:07wrestlers literally like a cat trying to claw and find where
- 30:12the opening is and they can't it's I don't get it.
- 30:19It's only wrestlers that have this.
- 30:22Oh, it's not speaking as a theatre techie like it's, it's a
- 30:26universal problem to anyone that has that theatre like
- 30:30inclination that just wants to throw it out and be centre
- 30:32stage. I, I actually got bollocked for
- 30:35the curtain. The first show I worked.
- 30:37It was the first soft pro show I was actually involved in where
- 30:41I'd interviewed, I'd done an interview with Leon Slater.
- 30:44Just humble brag there. That's the first thing I did in
- 30:47wrestling that's getting cooler by the day.
- 30:52And then immediately and then immediately afterwards, like I
- 30:56get misty by Kenny Williams and I'm like crawling backstage.
- 31:00And I think it was Lana Austin. I think it was just like, you
- 31:04know, mind the curtain. And then I look up and there's
- 31:06just like black just trickling down my face.
- 31:09And she says, oh, you're blind, Never mind.
- 31:11Don't worry about it. Like but it's.
- 31:19I mean, I've seen it on like a few.
- 31:22It's one little thing I do enjoy of like beforehand or during
- 31:27like the breaks of wrestlers that go back in through the
- 31:31curtain and it's almost like a little game you have with
- 31:34yourself thinking will they get through this curtain easy?
- 31:39No. The worst person I've ever seen
- 31:43was NAJ at I think it was off the page and it took him a good,
- 31:50I don't know, 15 seconds. I've heard of this in the
- 31:54curtains. Like where they.
- 31:57Opened, it was like I'm ride or die for an AJ.
- 32:01That's my boy. It was like it was like a
- 32:04computer game of like left, left, right, right.
- 32:08Just trying to see what can he get it and especially having was
- 32:13it Jack Beno, his his frenemy, so to speak.
- 32:18And we're just watching and thinking he doesn't know where
- 32:22he's going, does he? Until someone came through the
- 32:25curtain and he thought, oh, that's where I'm going.
- 32:29But it's it's just one of those little quirks that I find with
- 32:34wrestling and curtains. But we'll all kind of speed
- 32:42through this section because. We.
- 32:45Got onto a hell of a match a bit further on so we started out
- 32:50with Nischke taking on Decker. That was very quickly ended
- 32:59after the interference of Joe Young saw Decker distracted
- 33:04Nischke picking up the victory using the ropes.
- 33:09Next was Alex Boylan, who as I said before we recorded this,
- 33:15went full on New Jack having kisses gonna rock on roll all
- 33:20night playing. I mean, New Jack and Alex Boylan
- 33:27a doubt have ever been put in the same sentence before before
- 33:33now. So.
- 33:35Like I said just before, we were like, I think they did it just
- 33:38because, like Ace Frelia died earlier that day and I thought
- 33:41it was a really nice tribute that they did.
- 33:44But I kind of really like it for Alex.
- 33:46I think it's something they should keep, honestly.
- 33:50I mean. I may ask if that was the plan.
- 33:55They may say yes. After this.
- 33:58I get the feeling that wasn't the case.
- 34:01It's all based on how it's received.
- 34:03How it's how how things are received in wrestling is
- 34:07determines how retroactive the planning was.
- 34:10I think they just completely got lost in the show and thought, Oh
- 34:14yeah, I'm supposed to have stopped this.
- 34:15And by the time they went to stop it, Boiling pinned Nisku of
- 34:23a reversing a sunset flip that then brought in Joe Young.
- 34:29That didn't particularly go any much further either, as Young
- 34:36beat Boiling. Then we had Jack Johnson
- 34:41entering. He beat Young in pretty much his
- 34:45equal time, and this just helped to set up what was what we
- 34:51thought at least to be the final two men in this gauntlet match,
- 34:57which was Jack Johnson, the the People's King of Salford.
- 35:04I think we'll kind of use that term against the vigilante
- 35:09Bentley. This this alone was arguably the
- 35:17match of the night. Yeah, like I love the fact they
- 35:21had the confidence to put like 2 matches before the intermission.
- 35:24They just let this one run as long as it did.
- 35:27The crowd were electric for Jack from the moment he came out,
- 35:30like all the way through. And it's really nice to see like
- 35:34a crowd for an indie company that are loyal, that have been
- 35:37there to probably most of those sell out shows.
- 35:40They're invested in Jack, they're there to see Jack win
- 35:43and triumph. And it was just such a great
- 35:45story. Like you've got Bentley who's in
- 35:48there like slightly fresher than Jack.
- 35:51He's the bigger guy. He's got the power advantage.
- 35:55Like they do this incredible thing where I think it was, was
- 35:58it like his right arm or something that was giving out
- 36:01and Jack kept fighting through it.
- 36:02So just to. Give a bit of kind of not
- 36:07sympathy, but just adding another element to this match
- 36:13because it was it was still kind of babyface V babyface.
- 36:18However, as you say, the crowd being so invested in Jack with
- 36:27like the very odd vocal support for Bentley, but this is pretty
- 36:34much like 95% Johnson all the way in this match.
- 36:42But it's, I mean, there's so much.
- 36:46It was just great because it just kept going.
- 36:48Like he would go for a springboard cutter.
- 36:50It got counted like 3 or 4 times and every time you're like oh
- 36:55man, like Bentley might have just put him away and like he
- 36:57just, he just kept kicking out and stuff.
- 37:01The good thing about it was it wasn't like most matches where
- 37:06one person starts off, then the other one has advantage and then
- 37:10you get towards the back end. Both men had massive spells of
- 37:15kind of controlling the match. So you thought, oh, this is
- 37:19where the pinfalls happening and then it didn't.
- 37:23And then the other person would flip and they'd be in control.
- 37:27And you thought, right, this is where they're going.
- 37:29And it took you on like a journey that just went like a
- 37:33wave. You had no idea where it was
- 37:36going, which you don't get on many on many, well, many matches
- 37:43and many promotions really. You can't.
- 37:45Yeah, Usually you'll have like you, like other promotions you'd
- 37:48probably see like Bentley beating him down.
- 37:50They do the angle thing. Jack gets a lucky springboard
- 37:52car that it's that. But because they paste this so
- 37:55well, you fully believe. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:57Bentleys just as knackered because he spent so much effort
- 38:01trying to put Jack away and failing, and Jack's getting some
- 38:04big, big hits in in the interim that you could fully believe the
- 38:08finish when it happened. It was, it was great.
- 38:10It was absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
- 38:13Small incidental note just from earlier, I love the running joke
- 38:16of Nishki getting repeatedly called Nikishi.
- 38:20It's so small. I love that the bigger picture
- 38:23in general was really good heels in this match as well.
- 38:26Just to go a little back to the beginning, I don't know if you
- 38:30called it the part where Joe Young took his shirt off and was
- 38:32wearing a Liverpool top and someone started a We Hate
- 38:36Scousers chant. And I swear Joe's response was I
- 38:40just support who's winning. Like it's what the?
- 38:47Thing is, well of there is one. There was a couple of a couple
- 38:52of blocks that were like to the left of me.
- 38:55So they were on the other side of the ring from you and they
- 38:59were they were great. In fairness, they came out with
- 39:02all these chants winding up like the heels all night, but all in
- 39:07like a bantery way. Not exactly in a way that like
- 39:11the show, they're not going to get themselves over.
- 39:14They're not going to take a genuine dig or just.
- 39:17Yelling crash it, it was genuine I and here is my wrestling
- 39:21chant. It was it.
- 39:23Was pure kind of like just needle, but in a great way to
- 39:28which again, we'll come to them in a during the tag match, which
- 39:32is so good. As we were saying kind of with
- 39:37Johnson and Bentley, one thing they did brilliantly was when
- 39:42one was in control, one would fire up and if, and at that
- 39:47point, I think it was Bentley got fired up when Jack was
- 39:52literally smacking him and nothing was phasing him.
- 39:57And then at that point you kind of thought Bentley's going to be
- 40:01the one who wins here. But then moments later that he
- 40:04did the flip, they had Johnson getting kind of slapped around
- 40:10by Bentley and Jack just no sold it.
- 40:14He got fired up. And it really was one of those
- 40:17matches where you could not predict until we actually have
- 40:21like the pinfall who was winning this match.
- 40:27But it was fun also watching Vesper and Ryan on the.
- 40:33Stage. Yeah, because Vesper's breaking
- 40:37the whole time. Because Ryan just basically sat
- 40:40there kind of almost like a king, just like surveying what
- 40:45was going on, pulling like little like almost Robert Nero
- 40:50faces as he's watching and Vespa just running around like a loon.
- 40:56Just not just not wanting like anything to kind of like appease
- 41:05the king. But in the end, we had Johnson
- 41:10finally getting the pinfall, hitting someone else's cutter
- 41:15for the pinfall. Johnson then cuts a promo after
- 41:22getting the contract, telling Troy that because he has a
- 41:27contract, he doesn't want to wait till the next show or a
- 41:31year from now or a big show they might do down the line.
- 41:37He wants to do it now, which all the crowd for all we're finally
- 41:43going to get John Johnson and Troy.
- 41:48No, no, we didn't because we had one.
- 41:54Well, I say one we had Vespa come out from behind did not
- 42:02last long. He got very quickly dispatched,
- 42:05which I love because it really dropped.
- 42:07I'm like, oh, he's now got momentum.
- 42:10He might actually get that one lucky shot and do it and Oh no.
- 42:14No, he didn't. So Johnson wins put paid to that
- 42:19idea and everyone's now thinking, Oh well, you've now,
- 42:24you're for it. Right now you will have to
- 42:26actually step up, but Nope, he had one ace up his sleeve as
- 42:34Jansen Vesper has now said, and that was introducing the newest
- 42:41member of the monarchy, the King's Justice.
- 42:45To which as soon as I heard the word justice I popped so much
- 42:53and there was the same in me that did not get that reference
- 42:57whatsoever until they went 7 foot tall big TI think I the
- 43:07video. I hope my reaction gets picked
- 43:09up by the camera because I'm pretty sure as soon as he said
- 43:11justice I audibly go Oh no. As soon as he went justice, I
- 43:19thought, I think I'm, I think I filmed that bit and I think I
- 43:25basically sound like that bloke from that scene from Father Ted
- 43:31where Ted kind of turns up at the the sheep competition and
- 43:38calls out whoever it is that's been trying to cheat their way
- 43:44with a sheep competition and you just hear a fuck it out.
- 43:49That was effectively me what I thought, no, it's not.
- 43:53And then when he came out, I think I just basically went and
- 44:00had like two kids look at me thinking, are you OK?
- 44:05Do we do we need to get you medical attention?
- 44:10And of course, Big T comes out. I mean, he didn't even step from
- 44:18the stage. He kind of like 1 stride and he
- 44:22was immediately in the middle of the ring again.
- 44:28This did not last long either. Which in truth it shouldn't do.
- 44:35He's a man, and massive men do whatever the hell they want.
- 44:41Especially to someone that's just wrestled for the 20 plus
- 44:44minutes so. In the end, T pins Johnson wins
- 44:51the King's gauntlet, which could be an interesting thing further
- 44:59down the line, especially as he's won it and you have a year
- 45:02to, you know, cash that match in.
- 45:07So we'll we'll see what they do with that Any.
- 45:13If that's the question, like does T technically is he #1
- 45:18contender? Is Jack #1 contender considering
- 45:20they fed him the contract? Is possession 9/10 of the law?
- 45:25So I work it out like it's money in the bank in a sense.
- 45:28You have a full year to cash it in whenever you like.
- 45:33OK. So, but I think you have to give
- 45:37them, you have to give them notice.
- 45:42So it feels a bit like catch pro with kind of their tournaments
- 45:48of if you win the Enigma series or if you win the host
- 45:53tournament, you then have to state you want to challenge.
- 45:58So you give him a couple weeks or however long they need for
- 46:04that story. So he had he does have a full
- 46:07year to, you know, mess with the king should he should he want
- 46:13to. So yeah, that was that was a
- 46:19really fun way to to end the first half.
- 46:25This match was bonkers, but for different reasons.
- 46:32So we had the proper tag team in Jake Silva and Connor Riley
- 46:39taking on Jack Baron and a mystery tag team partner.
- 46:47The back story to this is Baron and Philip Michael faced off at
- 46:54the last show. After the match it's all the 2
- 46:58ring crew guys beating up Jack Baron who were none other than
- 47:03Connor Riley and Jake Silva. They challenged Baron to A tag
- 47:09match. Baron since then has done all he
- 47:13can to try and get his Zumba weights tag partner Philip
- 47:17Michael to see the light so to speak and completely forget that
- 47:23he's going to Salford where Phil Michael just wants to be a
- 47:27singles guy. He does not want to do tag team
- 47:30wrestling at all. He knows he's best mates.
- 47:33He does not want to do tag team wrestling and they have used
- 47:37social media so great for this where they've gone into matches,
- 47:43other promotions and filmed themselves going Phil, are you
- 47:48doing out on this specific date? And Phil going no, I don't think
- 47:54I am. Oh will you tag?
- 47:56Will you tag with me at Salford? And Phil just going no, I've
- 48:01already told you I'm a singles guy, I don't want to tag with
- 48:03you. We're best mates but I don't
- 48:05want to do tag team wrestling, I don't care.
- 48:09So I think we all knew where this was going to go eventually
- 48:15and we weren't disappointed. However, this was, I don't know
- 48:21if you'll agree with me, this was a very comedic.
- 48:26Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Like I I loved the fact that the
- 48:30mystery partner at the start was no one.
- 48:33So it was just a really good handicap match.
- 48:38So handicap match is a hard to do in a way that's entertaining
- 48:42because it kind of just turned into just extended heel work
- 48:46most of the time, I think. But the fact they played, I just
- 48:49want to say like outside of Jack having like the hero performance
- 48:53in the King's Fault, that Jack was my stand out for performance
- 48:56of the night. He was fantastic in this match.
- 48:59He was so good. Like, he carried himself with
- 49:02the energy even when it was just him by his lonesome.
- 49:05The fact that, you know, he had the momentum and like, the
- 49:08righteous anger to hold off against CPR and Silver, who were
- 49:12doing this incredible thing where they both thought they
- 49:15were the one in charge. And they're trying to coordinate
- 49:18tag team moves that they think the other just knows
- 49:21automatically and they just can't get it right.
- 49:25They can't, they're trying to do tag moves and like they don't
- 49:28know what the others meant to do.
- 49:30I thought it was so funny. Like CPR is already one of my
- 49:34favourite. I think every promotion I see
- 49:37him in like the genius character.
- 49:40It's he can do serious, but he can do comedy seamless between
- 49:44the two of them and Silver being like a loudmouth, just yelling
- 49:48over him, telling him no, not like that.
- 49:50You're, no, I'm Sean. You're like brilliant,
- 49:55absolutely brilliant. And obviously the Zumba wait
- 49:58reunion was the big story, but everyone delivered this.
- 50:02I loved it. Because it's a figure rightly
- 50:04plays the the straight man so great.
- 50:07He's very deadpan in his kind of his facial and how he basically
- 50:14reacts because of if you've seen him on like the future shock
- 50:20Fairfield shows where it's literally just like like a
- 50:24variety show. It's like there's no storylines
- 50:27whatsoever. They'll come dressed as whatever
- 50:31Riley always seems to dress up as.
- 50:33James Bond for some reason had the one of the best lines where
- 50:42they'd gone backstage. All you can hear is like banging
- 50:47and shouting and a gunshot. And Riley came, came out on the
- 50:51stage and just went. I shot it and it's the greatest.
- 50:57Kind of like deadpan reaction. I think it was, I think what I
- 51:04think it was James. Bond versus Doctor Who where
- 51:06about four wrestlers wrestled as Doctor Who.
- 51:11If you haven't seen it, it it. That's going on my voices
- 51:16immediately I'm thinking like there was AI think it was
- 51:18attitude error. The first one of this year in
- 51:20Fairfield where it was a fatal four way battle Royale and it
- 51:25was a first to go over the top rope wins and everyone is just
- 51:31trying to get over. So it's him, Teddy Ray, Sam slam
- 51:35I I do forget the 4th sorry, whoever that was, but it.
- 51:39Was doctor Proctor but I I will double check.
- 51:42Might have been Doctor. Yeah, so and like they get to
- 51:45the finish and like he just grabs Teddy and just throws him
- 51:49straight over the top, does his genius pose and then his face
- 51:53just sinks in realisation. Incredible.
- 51:57His his comic. Timing is absolutely fantastic
- 52:00because it was the thing of Riley just sits there Crestfall
- 52:05and is what I've done and Ray just went up to him, shook his
- 52:09hand. He went.
- 52:10Thanks for. Gave him a big old hug.
- 52:15I'm just I'll find it eventually.
- 52:27But yeah, he that one he had was Doctor Who versus James Bond,
- 52:33where he had Dave Birch, who I think was under the ring.
- 52:38Doctor Proctor, I think started out obviously being Doctor nay
- 52:44Jay then came out. I'm sure there was like a it
- 52:48could have been. I want to say it was Einstein
- 52:51possibly. That's just genius.
- 52:54Every time he went to pin, they literally just kind of had him
- 53:00regenerating music and it'd be someone new that had come
- 53:04dressed as Doctor Who. In the end, they all beat him
- 53:07up. So it was so much fun.
- 53:11But getting back to this, as you as you said, Silver and Riley,
- 53:18Silver getting on the middle rope or Brett's rope as we like
- 53:21to say, Riley holding the arm and Silver saying put put the
- 53:29arm up and then Riley fall to the floor holding like the arm.
- 53:35Jake going what you doing? And he goes, he said hold the
- 53:39armament, no, get him up, I don't have it.
- 53:41So the arms, the elbows up in the air.
- 53:44And he came out with the words I don't tag normally, which made
- 53:51it fun. And then you had one where I
- 53:54think it's Silver's basically choking barren in the corner.
- 54:01Normally you distract the referee so you don't have your
- 54:05partner being seen choking, Riley basically tells the
- 54:10referee. Look at that beautiful thing.
- 54:14I missed. That So Silver's basically
- 54:18choking Jack. Riley turns referees around,
- 54:23stops it, and Silver goes, what did you tell the ref I'm doing
- 54:27that for? I mean, well, you didn't say
- 54:30anything. I didn't know what you were
- 54:31doing. He said you saw me choking him.
- 54:33I mean, oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. And every time they went to tag,
- 54:38they missed, to which the two blokes that we've mentioned on
- 54:44the other side kept saying you can't tag, you can't tag.
- 54:49And both. The only time they actually
- 54:51managed to do a tandem manoeuvre, if you want to say
- 54:55this was them shouting in unison at these two blokes.
- 54:59Shut your mouth. That was the only time they
- 55:03could get anything together. Other than that, no.
- 55:09No, I, I loved it. I know obviously the main
- 55:12storyline was getting the Super weights back together.
- 55:14I sincerely hope the proper tag team it was a recurring thing
- 55:17because it's gold. It's so.
- 55:20Good. But yeah, we we had Philip
- 55:25Michael dashing through the crowd to which I thought he was
- 55:30a fan for a minute until he put his hood down and realised who
- 55:34it was. But who else is going to be
- 55:38wearing knee pads and wrestling boots and kind of like zebra
- 55:43looking pants? I suppose anyone actually that
- 55:49was in the crowd that night. It is sulphur.
- 55:52So Michaels gets on the the apron, puts his hand out and we
- 56:00see A tag which we did not expect there.
- 56:05We basically see the Zumba weight doing what they do best,
- 56:08tag team wrestling, hitting moves, a bit of kind of the the
- 56:17opponents coming back. However, all it did was set up
- 56:22the end of Jack Baron picking up silver in the kind of the muscle
- 56:28Buster, Phil Michael doing a super kick with Baron hitting
- 56:34the Baron Buster for the 123 and then the absolute scenes that
- 56:42followed this match of kids dancing in the aisles. 2 blokes
- 56:49to the left of me were crying, one genuinely was crying but
- 56:56they seem to be happy tears. I think everyone seemed to be
- 57:03just so happy to have the Zumba weights.
- 57:07Then they stole two kiddies wrestling belts parading the
- 57:12title belts as if to say we're going to be tag champions, which
- 57:16we don't have tag belts yet. A true moment for their
- 57:22anniversary show. I think you will.
- 57:25Agree absolutely. I loved the moment where Jack
- 57:28forgot what Katie took the belt from and had to scramble to find
- 57:31the mum. Do I ask actually had the?
- 57:35Belt, he went up to two, he went up to two kids, he went, is this
- 57:39your belt? And he went, yeah.
- 57:41Yes, this belongs to me. Jack had that look as if to say
- 57:47no, it's not. Again, a Father Ted reference
- 57:53with. The.
- 57:55The insurance woman where he goes.
- 57:59No, you're not. Yes, I am.
- 58:02No, you're not. Like you were saying about the
- 58:05crowd, like what I love about the vibes of Salford City is
- 58:09everyone is just all in on this. Like the crowd, the parents of
- 58:13it, like the kids are literally dancing by the ring, arms up in
- 58:17the air, jumping up and down, running up for high fives.
- 58:21Even the people that are in the crowd that are just fans are
- 58:24just like, yeah, like, but you know, by that point, even the
- 58:28people that are just there for the laugh, they're about a pint
- 58:30or two deep. So even they're just going
- 58:33crazy. So yeah, it was just everyone
- 58:36was just in the moment. And like, they're all for the
- 58:41faces. They hate the heels.
- 58:43The storylines are just sold. And it's beautiful, absolutely
- 58:47beautiful. It's, it's what you want like
- 58:49wrestling shows to be. It's noisy, boisterous, but the
- 58:55crowd can make it so much fun as well.
- 59:00We then come to match #4 the penultimate match I will add.
- 59:07So Tom Felwell joined by the banter bus in Uncle Ryan and
- 59:14Danny Proper, who came out to the tune of Don't Stop Moving by
- 59:22S Club 7, Uncle Ryan showing us his I suppose Uncle dancing
- 59:30moves. I suppose you could basically
- 59:33put it, I mean, the man deserves a raise just for the dance moves
- 59:38he was pulling off you. Know how you know how earlier we
- 59:40were talking about how we struggle to find the curtain?
- 59:43I fully believe that wasn't Ryan acting.
- 59:48I to be fair at I see wrestlers in curtains.
- 59:52It's it's not an act. You just know.
- 59:54It's a terrible relationship between the two just.
- 59:58Here's an idea. This is going to sound so crazy.
- 1:00:05Just get some chalk and just draw little arrows to say this
- 1:00:09is where. This direction, yeah.
- 1:00:12As opposed to the other side where normally you'll, if you've
- 1:00:17seen it on wrestling shows, you go, here's where the curtain is.
- 1:00:20Just little ones so the crowd can't see, but the wrestlers
- 1:00:24know where they're going. Just a crazy idea.
- 1:00:26I'm just throwing that out there.
- 1:00:30If you want to pay me on that idea, I will happily take a
- 1:00:33slight Commission. However, as we said, Uncle Ryan
- 1:00:39finding the curtain and in beautiful timing, pulling the
- 1:00:44curtain apart with Tom Felwell and Danny proper.
- 1:00:51I think I've put it, I think I've put in my notes doing the
- 1:00:55back-to-back Lethal Weapon pose, such as how it looked.
- 1:01:05But the match itself, it's off. Tom Felwell taking on Dave
- 1:01:08Birch, joined by the bigger pitcher Nischke and Mighty Joe
- 1:01:15Young, who I think was was he still wearing his Liverpool
- 1:01:19shirt at this point? He was still wearing his
- 1:01:21Liverpool shirt. The two were acting battered
- 1:01:23from the gauntlet match. And like, but just trying to
- 1:01:26like hype them up and they're just like, I'm in so much pain,
- 1:01:30the thing. I love about shows is when
- 1:01:33people have been on already and they come out and it's just like
- 1:01:36ice packs or. Literally they just look
- 1:01:40knackered. Even though they might have done
- 1:01:43hardly anything at all, they've took one like 1 spear and
- 1:01:48they'll come out just like limping really badly.
- 1:01:56I haven't really got much to say about this because in there
- 1:02:03wasn't a whole lot of wrestling in this match.
- 1:02:07It was. It is what we like to say.
- 1:02:09It was kind of like just a bit of a schmoz, like, like, but you
- 1:02:13know, Birch would do like, bigger pitcher would do some
- 1:02:15tricks. The rest of the banter bus would
- 1:02:17get in, but get involved. Birch is trying to do the thing
- 1:02:20where he's getting fell. Well, who's a big strong boy off
- 1:02:22his feet and can't manage it. Bigger pitcher do some
- 1:02:25shenanigans. Danny proper misses his cue with
- 1:02:28the microphone because I was bothering him.
- 1:02:30Ask him if he had any shirts for sale.
- 1:02:33My bad. Oh.
- 1:02:37Kind of actually say Birch just doing like running shoulder
- 1:02:41charges or shoulder blocks to Tom and nothing kind of like
- 1:02:45doing out Danny proper grabbing the microphone saying yeah, you
- 1:02:50might want to stop that. It's ain't working mate.
- 1:02:54You might as well stop it. You're just embarrassing
- 1:02:56yourself. But but still, God love him
- 1:03:00tries anyway. Then one spot I did love was
- 1:03:07when Tom picks up Birch and the bigger picture just going put
- 1:03:11him down, put him down right now, put him down.
- 1:03:15And you're thinking, you don't really want that, do you?
- 1:03:18And then they said you want me to put him down.
- 1:03:23They Tom asking the crowd, they all go, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:26Nishkin Joe put him down. Of course he does.
- 1:03:30He slams him. This, this is what you this
- 1:03:35obviously you get what you paid for, Birch, and this is what you
- 1:03:38get. I, I loved it.
- 1:03:42I, I thought it was exactly what it needed to be.
- 1:03:44Like you, you get the visual of Felwell having it won, but
- 1:03:48obviously the ref's distracted by the bigger picture and the
- 1:03:50rest of the bus fighting outside, you know, Birch gets
- 1:03:54the sneaky, completely cheeky win like.
- 1:03:57And and I think that's good because it establishes that
- 1:04:00Felwell is still like the guy, but now he doesn't have that
- 1:04:04undefeated streak kind of lording over him.
- 1:04:06You don't want that to be like the crux of his character.
- 1:04:10You like now it's giving him a bit of edge.
- 1:04:12It's given like, you know, obviously the clear seed is, you
- 1:04:16know, six man tag. That's that's what screams to me
- 1:04:20as someone that follows the narrative thread from A to B.
- 1:04:25Yeah, absolutely down for that. I I loved it.
- 1:04:28I love Farewell. I think he's really underrated
- 1:04:30for how good he is and obviously I'm ride or die for the rest of
- 1:04:33the bus as well. Toot toot.
- 1:04:35It's a bus stone of white toots, but it's.
- 1:04:38It's got a new, it's got a new thing.
- 1:04:40That's what it is. It's got a new sound.
- 1:04:45The one thing is that I've I've heard on a couple of podcasts
- 1:04:49that I've been listening to is when they almost tell you what's
- 1:04:54going to happen before it happens.
- 1:04:57So like when they say this person has held it for so many
- 1:05:02days that he has held the title for 100 days.
- 1:05:07Yeah, yeah, yeah. Effectively, you're saying he
- 1:05:10ain't holding it for 101, having Jay Burnley come out and saying
- 1:05:19Tom Felwell has not lost yet. He is undefeated in Salford City
- 1:05:23Wrestling. Immediately, right there you're
- 1:05:25thinking, Oh well, he's losing this.
- 1:05:27I'm into. Yeah, I don't mind that so much.
- 1:05:31It's it's just like it's a nice bit of seasoning to the match.
- 1:05:34It's like when you know, like when any TV has the cold open of
- 1:05:37like now to lock the door on this priceless diamond, it's
- 1:05:41like, you know, you're not going to be watching that guy just
- 1:05:44standing outside the door for 20 minutes that that shit is gone.
- 1:05:48It's. One of those things where it's
- 1:05:53it doesn't happen all over the the shop, but when it happens it
- 1:05:57it's like one of those little tropes that you get and you just
- 1:06:00think, yeah, I know, I know what's happening here.
- 1:06:06But that all was good. But we now come to the main
- 1:06:12event of the evening, the Queen of Salford tournament featuring
- 1:06:20Alfie, joined as always by her companion Dee Dee the Bear
- 1:06:27taking on Lilly Winter who this storyline has literally gone
- 1:06:35since day one. So the first show that these two
- 1:06:42women were on ended with Lilly Winter picking up a very cheat,
- 1:06:48cheating, sorry with a cheap win.
- 1:06:52Used Alfie as a weapon, I suppose we can say.
- 1:06:58Pinned Alfie on the opening show and Alfie has almost been trying
- 1:07:04to kind of get that pin back. So of course a year on we have
- 1:07:10the Queen of Salford tournament, Alfie and Winter.
- 1:07:17I really enjoyed this match. It it wasn't what's the word I'm
- 1:07:26thinking of? It did what it did, it did what
- 1:07:30it needed to do. It's shown both women to be
- 1:07:35really good. The match itself was again a
- 1:07:41back and forth contest, some awkward manoeuvres at times
- 1:07:50where kind of like because the the ring is smaller than most
- 1:07:56rings you you get nearly saw kind of Lily's neck snapping off
- 1:08:03the the bottom row at one point. Yeah, I think I don't know if
- 1:08:09she got like a Stinger or anything, but I did get the
- 1:08:11feeling that Ali the Ali kind of took it a little slower and
- 1:08:15safer after like like, you know, her spin kicks especially like
- 1:08:19they looked good, but you could tell she was really pulling the
- 1:08:23blow on them. Like God knows we don't want
- 1:08:25Lily to get like head caved in a Rafon.
- 1:08:27But like you could tell that you know, she was being like it was
- 1:08:31very safe, very professional, like no complaints at all.
- 1:08:35Obviously, I love the storyline. Ref goes down outcomes Natalie
- 1:08:39Boo. You're that's not no Boo, that's
- 1:08:43not allowed. Not that she's allowed to
- 1:08:45interfere anyway. And then driving the wedge
- 1:08:48between her and Lily. So that's another potential plot
- 1:08:51thread down the line. To which it's it's interesting
- 1:08:56to know kind of what happens moving forward now for the for
- 1:09:00the next show, at least with Lily and Natalie, because them
- 1:09:06two have been like thick as thieves really.
- 1:09:09And now this incident occurs to which we'll we'll go back in a
- 1:09:14second and kind of have a little skimp through what happened.
- 1:09:20But having these two who have helped each other pick up
- 1:09:24victories now being odds and despite Lily kind of shoving and
- 1:09:32then pushing Sykes away and Sykes almost thinking she
- 1:09:40normally on these occasions you'll have one lash out in like
- 1:09:44retaliation. Yeah.
- 1:09:46Felt more like a friend of I can't believe you've done this
- 1:09:49to me. Yeah.
- 1:09:51Yeah, like she just stormed out. She just seemed really sad.
- 1:09:54And I was like, oh, but you're such an evil brat.
- 1:09:57I don't know if I'm meant to feel sympathy for her.
- 1:09:59That's more interesting to me. It's like.
- 1:10:01You didn't know what what she was going to you thought, right,
- 1:10:05she's going to she's going to attack her in a second and it.
- 1:10:07Never. I thought we were friends.
- 1:10:09She. Just went really, it was the
- 1:10:10sad. At one point I wanted to go to
- 1:10:14Natalie and just like, hug her. Because she had the side face
- 1:10:17when she left the room. And just like head down feet,
- 1:10:22kind of like shuffling off. It was like the saddest thing
- 1:10:25you've seen. But as I say, rewinding it
- 1:10:32slightly, so little notes I've put because of what to get this
- 1:10:38particular point in because it made me laugh writing it.
- 1:10:43So Lily went to hit Alfie in the corner, got a boot of her face,
- 1:10:49I think it was Lily's basically on her hands and knees.
- 1:10:54Lily's Lily's, Alfie's behind saying should I kick her?
- 1:11:00And she did the Bishop Brennan special kicks her up the ass.
- 1:11:06One of my favourite moves that Alfie does because it I mean, I
- 1:11:10just, it always makes me think of Father Ted, to be fair.
- 1:11:16But then Lily, I'll say this for Lily Winter.
- 1:11:21The first time I saw her was 20 thirty, 20/30/2023.
- 1:11:30And I think she's, I think she, she was still kind of like very
- 1:11:36early in her career. However, from then to where she
- 1:11:43is now, and it's been said on a couple of podcasts, pole
- 1:11:48opposites of where she once was, obviously getting like more reps
- 1:11:53and a couple of years experience.
- 1:11:58But I think if this had been a couple years ago, it may have
- 1:12:01been a case of her not freezing up, but she may have been a bit
- 1:12:10kind of holding back a bit. But I think over time she's
- 1:12:17beginning to master kind of like how to play to the crowd, how to
- 1:12:23work a match, being like a heel. She plays the heel role so well
- 1:12:30now. And I think Salford arguably
- 1:12:34might be one of her strongest kind of promotions for being the
- 1:12:39heel because it's more kind of like family friendly and more
- 1:12:47say kid based, if you can say that in a.
- 1:12:52In a good. Way I should say.
- 1:12:56I mean, I, I think I look at Sulphate City, it's only
- 1:12:59slightly more not like fool Shikara, but it's slightly more
- 1:13:04comic book than future Shock. It's, it's very like heroes and
- 1:13:09villains. Like Future Shock is a box
- 1:13:10standard, not box standard cause future shock's great.
- 1:13:13But it is, you know, but it is very much, we are a wrestling
- 1:13:15company. Here are titles, here are
- 1:13:17divisions. You know where Salford City is
- 1:13:21much more Saturday morning cartoon Skeletor level evil Lily
- 1:13:26looks like a star, carries herself with like a star.
- 1:13:28She's got one of the best entrances, I think.
- 1:13:31And like you say, she's one of these, you know, there's a lot
- 1:13:34of like female wrestlers, especially where if they develop
- 1:13:38so quickly and so well, especially in the character
- 1:13:42department. Like I think of people like
- 1:13:45Lucia Lee and Melissa Fierce who have done very similar things
- 1:13:48where you see them and you're like, oh, they have so much
- 1:13:51potential and then they still exceed how good you expected
- 1:13:54them to be. Like I also think like the the
- 1:13:58victim was the right one. I think especially if you're
- 1:14:01going to have Jack continuing his long chase, send the crowd
- 1:14:04happy. Like, you know, Lily's still
- 1:14:08overish years, she's still a fantastic heel.
- 1:14:11She's had her long heel championship reign in future
- 1:14:14shock. So it lets Salford have their
- 1:14:16own identity with Alfie as their champion.
- 1:14:19I loved it. I thought it was great.
- 1:14:21It's. The thing as well with Lily
- 1:14:24losing it doesn't hurt her losing.
- 1:14:29Not in the slightest, no. Anything.
- 1:14:31It's kind of helped build her character a bit more.
- 1:14:38And I think, I think I think those that have been watching
- 1:14:41Salford since like day one will. I think we all expected Alfie
- 1:14:45will get that pin back and doing it in this setting was just the
- 1:14:53perfect way to do it. But I think what's going to be
- 1:15:00interesting now is how they're what they're going to do moving
- 1:15:06forward with Alfie now is like the Queen of Salford.
- 1:15:11So as opposed to the King, you always you had like a collection
- 1:15:17of any like so many people that can like challenge.
- 1:15:23I think we've Salford and I think we've seen it in the last
- 1:15:25couple of shows, they've brought in like some really talented
- 1:15:30female wrestlers. And I think what they do better
- 1:15:36than arguably any local promotion I've seen at least is
- 1:15:42they will give a chance to anyone.
- 1:15:46They will bring in someone that you may not even think about to
- 1:15:51a show and then you see him in the ring and you and you leave
- 1:15:56that show thinking I want to see them back again.
- 1:16:00So kind of like the the two triple fret matches they had for
- 1:16:05the Queen of Salford qualifiers, a couple I'd never particularly
- 1:16:12heard of. I'd kind of browsed and looked
- 1:16:15up prior to the show. But when you actually see them
- 1:16:20in the ring, you thought these are some great vines that
- 1:16:24they've got wherever they kind of just plucked these from
- 1:16:29normally from like like Northwest.
- 1:16:32It seems to be the same kind of staple ones that you'll see on
- 1:16:37like Future Shock or other kind of brands.
- 1:16:41You don't get too much difference.
- 1:16:45Yeah, Like we've got a very wide talent pool up here, but it is
- 1:16:48still like a talent pool that you're used to seeing.
- 1:16:50And it's nice seeing people, even if you are used to seeing
- 1:16:54them, seeing them portrayed differently.
- 1:16:56Like even if you're like the biggest meat waggon fan in the
- 1:16:59world, King Troy is so different.
- 1:17:03And sometimes, I mean, this week I saw Holly being a heel at
- 1:17:08North Wrestling, which seems so out of character for Holly, but
- 1:17:14she works that so, so well. That's a point for tomorrow,
- 1:17:22little heads up for. I loved the confidence that they
- 1:17:27had for their big anniversary show to both open and close on a
- 1:17:31women's match. I thought that I thought that
- 1:17:34was great. I thought the fact they were
- 1:17:35intertwined in storylines helped with the build up.
- 1:17:39Like it's so ambiguous as to where they'll go for who's next
- 1:17:43in line for the Queen of Salford.
- 1:17:44But it it just showed that everyone in the card was just
- 1:17:48just so over with everyone like the fans were so invested.
- 1:17:52Salford as well they the impressive things that I found
- 1:17:56myself. It is the timings that they have
- 1:17:59from start to finish is you don't ever watch a match, you
- 1:18:05think that's gone on a bit long, that seems too short.
- 1:18:10Other than obviously like the Gauntlet, but that made so much
- 1:18:13sense to have it very quickly because obviously you were
- 1:18:16building to Johnson and Bentley, but everything hits.
- 1:18:21There's nothing yet they've done where you come away and think,
- 1:18:26Oh well, that was a bit crap. Everything makes sense.
- 1:18:32Every, just literally every show so far is so brilliantly put
- 1:18:37together and it almost feels that this could should be a
- 1:18:41blueprint for either new promotions or old promotions.
- 1:18:46Looking at this thinking, Oh well, we'll try and follow that
- 1:18:53formula so to speak, because that may help us.
- 1:18:58Yeah, like they're not really real.
- 1:19:01They're just, they're just fun. Like it's just so concise.
- 1:19:05It's presented perfectly. It's everything it wants to be.
- 1:19:09The in ring product isn't simplified or dumbed down, but
- 1:19:12it still sells some just great cut and dry hero villain
- 1:19:16stories. It's so like perfectly compact,
- 1:19:19digestible, 5 match card exactly as long as it needs to be.
- 1:19:22There's something for everyone. I'm going to be a regular
- 1:19:25frankly, like immediately sold from this show.
- 1:19:29Like I did love that in the first in the first match.
- 1:19:32You know what it's like when you go to like some family friendly
- 1:19:34shows where it, you know, they kind of oversell it and it kind
- 1:19:38of just turns into children screaming at whatever.
- 1:19:40Like so people look took a bit of time.
- 1:19:43Like you had a couple of seeds planted for chants from the
- 1:19:46merch stand. Oh, the lungs on that woman
- 1:19:50Blimey, carrying from the back of the room.
- 1:19:54But by the time you got to like the tag match after the
- 1:19:56intermission, crowd didn't need the help.
- 1:19:58Like pretty much from the time that Jack was in the ring.
- 1:20:02Everyone was just nuclear for everything and it was great.
- 1:20:05No like loved this show. I was.
- 1:20:08Going to have you got your ticket for the next show yet?
- 1:20:10Or I have, I have indeed. I am not being caught out again
- 1:20:13and. And to be slightly smug, I got
- 1:20:17mine two weeks ago because I think I was one of the first
- 1:20:23people to get a ticket and I like to wind certain people up
- 1:20:27that can't make these shows. Talking about you Miles.
- 1:20:36But I know a couple of friends that had tickets for this show
- 1:20:40and unfortunately couldn't make it due to family reasons and
- 1:20:47they were so big sick they couldn't attend.
- 1:20:49This and the fact that we had a debut in Big TI think made them
- 1:20:58even more sicker, which puts a smile on my face because I'm
- 1:21:04sick, quite literally. But yeah, I will say one thing
- 1:21:13about the next show to which I will get the the date for the
- 1:21:21next show. I should know February. 6th.
- 1:21:28Yes, February 6th. So for those that haven't got
- 1:21:32your tickets, Friday the 6th of February 2026 Salford City
- 1:21:41Wrestling presents Coronation 2. Looking at the poster, I think I
- 1:21:51may know who Alfie's first opponent is going to be.
- 1:22:01This is the part where I try to sneakily bring up the socials.
- 1:22:04Mainly because someone is looking to build an empire and
- 1:22:10it would make so much sense if that person is the first person
- 1:22:16that faces the queen. Again, I could be completely
- 1:22:23wrong, which would not be the first and I can guarantee will
- 1:22:29not be the last time, but we also have the debut of Mr Ups
- 1:22:37and Downs himself, Simon Miller. Having said I've never seen
- 1:22:43Simon Miller, I now cannot seem to avoid him on shows, as has
- 1:22:52been a few people I've said that about in the past.
- 1:22:57So obviously Simon is making his debut.
- 1:23:03I think he might be facing Troy possibly.
- 1:23:08It seems a good bet. That could be what we're doing.
- 1:23:15That's a meaty match. Will the ring take it though?
- 1:23:17That's what I'm thinking, but there's there's a lot to pack
- 1:23:25moving forward on like where's this going to go?
- 1:23:30It's it's it's very much kind of like police red string going
- 1:23:35here. Who's he going to face?
- 1:23:37What's going to happen here? But just overall a really great
- 1:23:44show. If you haven't been to Salford,
- 1:23:48thoroughly recommend going to Salford, even though it is
- 1:23:55seemingly in free places if you actually look in the venue
- 1:24:01because it's Salford City Wrestling representing Salford
- 1:24:08in Pendlebury. And if you actually look on one
- 1:24:12of the signs in the venue, it says Swinton.
- 1:24:17So you could be in one of three places depending where you sit
- 1:24:22in the bar. That's how I like to work out.
- 1:24:27It's kind of like the Rhubarb Triangle in Yorkshire so to
- 1:24:30speak, but obviously not in Yorkshire.
- 1:24:37What were your thoughts? And in closing on the Salford
- 1:24:41Show? Yeah, I I think I've covered my
- 1:24:46endless positivity about this show.
- 1:24:48Like I genuinely have like no notes.
- 1:24:51It was everything you would want from a family friendly show that
- 1:24:55just happens to have some great matches, some talent that are
- 1:25:00presented in a way you'll only see them in Salford City.
- 1:25:03It's got such a great family vibe.
- 1:25:06Love the venue, they're clearly building the thing show on show
- 1:25:10but give you everything so you don't feel that you missed out.
- 1:25:12Absolutely get your tickets worth from the show and they
- 1:25:15deserve to sell out. I can see why they sell out
- 1:25:17every time because it's probably the same people in the building
- 1:25:20every time. The the fan base just seem very
- 1:25:23loyal. It it is one of those that you
- 1:25:27do see kind of like the the hardcore I see hardcore element.
- 1:25:31It seems the wrong term to use the the die hards if you want to
- 1:25:35say that again as it's in Northwest, you do see the same
- 1:25:40friendly faces that you would at kind of like every other local
- 1:25:46show, which is always great because going to shows with
- 1:25:51friends is always handy. Makes it even more fun I feel.
- 1:25:59So we will leave the show there. But before we go, I will give
- 1:26:06you a chance to plug anything you would like.
- 1:26:10Absolutely, absolutely. You can find me at Gas Buff on
- 1:26:13most socials X Blue Sky Instagram.
- 1:26:17You can find me in various rap battles on youtube.com if you
- 1:26:20would like to see me rhyme insults in adult angry poetry
- 1:26:24competitions. And alternatively, you can also
- 1:26:27see me as briefly the interviewer but also the ring
- 1:26:30announcer for Sovereign Pro Wrestling.
- 1:26:33I do believe that we're going to be doing something dropping our
- 1:26:35previous shows shortly, so keep an eye out for that.
- 1:26:39And for me you can catch me on PETA, Brothers on X and I think
- 1:26:45Blue Sky unless I've got that one a bit wrong.
- 1:26:49I am also on Instagram under Brothersgrappers where I film
- 1:26:56wrestling shows and try and do mini highlights to showcase and
- 1:27:01highlight shows and also waffle quite a lot.
- 1:27:06I'm not after wrestling Geebus's job, I will say that.
- 1:27:12Oh bless that man hero. I am merely following in his
- 1:27:16mere footsteps. So we'll we'll go with that.
- 1:27:23But I am trying to take his job. But for me, Petter Brothers,
- 1:27:29that has been gas. Thank you very much for
- 1:27:33listening or watching or whichever media I put out.
- 1:27:40If you're going to a wrestling show, remember to enjoy yourself
- 1:27:45and more importantly, don't be in the kick.
