Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: If your Instagram stories and your Instagram DMs aren't bringing you 16K hot steady leads and you're not exactly at the sales pool you want to be at for this order, I've got you.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey sales friends, I'm Alyssa, your chief sales gal.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I've been in business for 11 years and I currently run a Done For You Lead Generation and Lead Management Agency with Instagram DMs.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I'm about to show you guys all of the juicy sales things on Instagram, Instagram stories to get leads, and posting sales and the DM sales sales calls.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: So let's get into all of the juicy details.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, welcome back to the DM Sales Gal.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: I'm super excited because this is actually our 20th episode, and in 11 years of business, I never knew we would have 20 podcast episodes.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: So actually a big win.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: I got to sit down this past week with my friend and podcast strategist and manager Marie Walker, who we mention on nearly every episode, and we got into one of my favorite topics, which you guys know me for, DM sales.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And I will die on this hill happily.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: You do not need to be on a fucking sales call to close a sale.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Some of the biggest sales that I've closed have been in the DMs.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: They've been up to 18,000 plus dollars without ever doing a sales call.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: In this episode, Marie and I talk about all sorts of crazy, crazy, crazy shit.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And we also talk about the five-step DM sales bow that I use to essentially like repeat the cycle of a sales call on your own time in the DMs.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: I like to do mine at the park with the geese surrounding me and the sunset in the background.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Like, that's my sales vibes.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Don't fuck with my sales vibes.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I'm still decorating my office.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: It's not beautiful yet.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I don't need to be in the fucking office to do to close a fucking sale.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: That's just ridiculous.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And basically, I broke the rules.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I stopped listening to all the bullshit that nobody even told me I had to do for sales.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: I just assumed when I started a business, to make money you do a sales call.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: I mean everyone talked about it.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: No one said this is the way to do it because there wasn't a choice.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: That's just what you did.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Then I said fuck that, and this is what we did instead.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna talk about in this episode, Marie and I, the five-step DM sales flow that I used, how I did 50 sales calls, MQ4, discovery calls, sales calls, coffee chats picked my brain.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: My brain was picked.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: And the ROI was terrible, and the clients I did sign were awful.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Just awful.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: We talked about that too.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna talk about how your marketing ain't just your marketing if you want to close in the DMs.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: You have to have sales content in my specific eight ingredients, sales content recipe to get you there.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, here we go.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Get ready to laugh.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: This time is a lot of fun.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: Okay, so my first question is always cocktail-based, but since we are sober, let's not ask that.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: So I'm trying to I'm trying to think of a fun question.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: I don't know if this is gonna make sense, but if your business was if your business was a country, what would it be?
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: Like what's the vibe of your business?
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I mean, I really like Spain.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: I've not been to as many countries as you, but I really like the Madrid, like work hard, play hard, put family and friends first mentality.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: I really, really like that.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: I studied really hard, like at NYU, a study abroad in Madrid, and we would study really hard, and then we'd have like a really long flat dinner, and we'd go out and we would exercise.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Like I really like their life model more than some places in the US where it's all about like hustle culture.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: Also, I forgot to say, can you please say your name and your business too?
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 3:48unknown: Suck.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Uh, my name is Alyssa Moorhead.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I've been in business for 11 years.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I've done everything around marketing and sales.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Now we have a done for you we gen agency where we're getting new leads and managing leads on Instagram in the DMs, trying to keep lots of our clients from doing lots of lead work and doing lots of sales calls.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: We close a lot in the DMs and a lot right now for group programs.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: So people with a one-to-many offer where you really want to scale it.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: We're doing lots of that.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And Marie is my pal and my podcast manager and strategist.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: And we've been trying to make this pod episode happen for like four months in the midst of me moving to Denver and her moving to LA.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: So I'm so excited that we get to alas do it.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: And also, I've posted one of your episodes on this podcast.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: So people might recognize your voice.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: It's actually doing really well.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: And that's why I know people want to hear this topic today.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: Um, so I think let's start off with a little spicy question.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: What is your opinion on sales that would start a fight on the internet?
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: But you can say safely here because we do not judge.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I think to go back to entrepreneurship after 11 years, and what my entrepreneurial family taught me is you do it all alone at first.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: You wear all the hats, you figure out as much as you can, then you hire people when you can afford to.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: And sales is one of those things we're taught really about business, I think, in reverse to some extent.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: We're taught to brand your business, to make an offer, to decide your price point.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Who's your ideal client?
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: How are you gonna market?
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: What are you gonna invest in?
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: What networking, visibility, podcast, then sales after all of that shit, which means it's literally can be at the bottom of your priority list.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: You don't have any money to invest in it at that point, so you do it all alone.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: I think one of the most controversial things about sales right now is you don't have to do it all alone, which is not to say, like, I love memberships, networking, group programs, one-on-one coach, mastermind, all of those things.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: But when you get to the point, which is usually above 10 to 15k months, that you could afford support in your DMs for lead generation, lead management, closing sales, that's a big topic of contention.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: People think they have to do their DMs themselves, they have to do sales themselves, lead gen themselves.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Hiring support for it is like a whole new world to have someone else in their DMs and to clarify, we represent our client.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: So if I'm in Marie's DMs, I'm gonna say this is Alyssa on Marie's team.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I'll never pretend to be you.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: So no one's ever thinking, like, oh, Marie sounds weird today.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Like, you don't have to worry about that.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: But we just get so nervous of relinquishing our own sales when we've done it alone for so long.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: And it took me like seven or eight years in business of 11 to have someone else in my DMs because I'm really good at it, which is why I have an agency where we do it, but I can't do it all by myself because we have such a large lead volume of like 2500 DMs in Instagram, which Marie knows is insane.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: So I think that's a big topic of of debate is do I have to do my sales alone or not?
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: And also, yeah, it's kind of silly.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: Like sales is the the one thing that would make you money.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: So why do we put it at the end?
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: But it's hard because we all need that's the thing about business.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: Like, you literally need everything, you are everything.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: What do you invest in first?
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: It's like it's it's so fucking hard to choose what comes first, but technically sales should because that's literally what brings in the money.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Like I think like once you have probably done a one-on-one or group coaching program, once you have an offer, you have a brand, you have a website, you have a social media presence, maybe you have an email list, like my hiring order of what comes next and what should come next would be social media podcast and then lead generation.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Social media means that everybody who comes from everywhere sees really good shit.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: If you meet me in person at Create and Cultivate, if we find each other on Marie's cocktails and clothes at a networking event, if you get referred by someone, they're all gonna see your Instagram.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Or whatever, other places.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: But I would say like social media first, because all roads lead to socials for most of us listening.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Then after that, I would do a podcast because like Maria's done for me, it massively ups your like daily, weekly leads generated who know a lot about you and are way more primed to buy.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: And then I would do done for you lead generation once you're starting to get inbound leads and you have lots of people to nurture, but you can't make time to go back to them, or you don't want to, or you don't know what to say, or you feel pushy.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: That's when I would hire for lead gen.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: The classic mistake is once I pay my creative director$1,500 a month for marketing and pay, you know, Marie$1,500 to$200 to$2,000 a month for podcast, then I'm spending three grand, four grand on marketing, and then I have to pay for lead gen, which is all to say you really have to be at like$15k months because you're gonna end up spending three, four, five grand a month on marketing podcast and lead gen.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: It's usually not feasible for most people unless their monthly recurring revenue is above 15k.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and like the people, I'm sure there are beginners listening to podcasts.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: The people who this podcast is geared towards is the people at that number.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: So if you're at a beginner stage, like I would probably say, yeah, like he tried to do as much as you can by yourself, but I really want to be talking to that person who's in your position where like they're drowning.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: And so what I want to talk about, like your whole thing is you don't need to jump on a sales call to make your sale.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: Um, so what's your beef with sales calls?
- 9:43SPEAKER_03: And when did you realize you didn't need them?
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: Or like what point of business where you're like, this is not feasible anymore?
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: I think it's Q4 of the last year.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I joined a membership, I joined Entrepreneista, which most people listening will know about or probably already in.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Entrepreneista culture, and most memberships, networking, masterminds have a culture.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Entrepreneista culture, all roads lead to coffee chats, coffee chat, coffee chat, coffee chat, coffee chat, coffee chat, coffee chat, coffee chat, which means I be on calls for the rest of my motherfucking life.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, people people asked me for a coffee chat this morning and the day before that, and the day before that, and now I'm saying I don't have that much room for calls right now.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: I do team calls and I don't do sales calls anymore.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: My sales team does them.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: If you're ready to purchase, I can give you a call with my sales team.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Other than that, I'll be on the internet.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: You can come to a networking event, we can chat in the DMs, you can shoot me an email.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: I don't need to be a call on a call with you because I could be outside in Denver, because I could be on a mountain and we don't need to be in the same place on the computer at the same time.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: My office is a work in progress, but I don't actually want to fucking live here.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Like I would want to leave my fucking house.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: So I just can't with the calls that lead to not much.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: So I was in Entrepreneista, I did something insane, like 18 plus calls a month.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: I did 50 over 50 in a quarter at the end of 2025.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: I think I might have made, I mean, I didn't even want to count because it was just so sad.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: I think I might have made like$5,000 to$7,000.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: And those clients were terrible.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Some of the worst I've ever had.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: So demanding, so unappreciative, didn't listen to expectations.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: My team is always like for sales, like set expectations.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: I can tell Marie every expectation about sales, but if you ain't hearing it, then nothing is fucking happening.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: So I did all of these coffee chats, but some of them were sales calls.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Call with the animal, whatever you want.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: But people ended up asking me, like, oh, you did that.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Tell me about your services.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: Can you send me a proposal?
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: So on these calls, it was supposed to be a coffee chat.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Marie helps me, I help Marie.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: But then the person on the coffee chat asked me about my services and I tell them, and then they asked for a proposal.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: We've gone through the whole sales call route.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Call it whatever you want.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: And I would send these proposals and sometimes not get answers.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: And they knew the price and they knew the details.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: It was a recap.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Nothing was a surprise.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: I would send these proposals and not get answers.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: And I'd follow up twice and I might get an answer.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: And I would send proposals.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Then I got to the point where like I was frustrated by it.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: So I told them, I told Molly on a coffee chat, like, hey Molly, I understand you're interested in our services.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to send you a proposal, but I need you to know that that takes billable hours of my time or my teams.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to write you a proposal that takes me about 30 minutes.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: If you're actually interested and get back within three business days and are ready to start within one month.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: If you just want to know the deets, they're on my Instagram.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: They're in our call recording.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: They're on my website.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: They're on my podcast.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: Like, do a little goddamn due diligence because I don't have time for this shit.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: And I wasted my own time to be clear.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: I don't believe in fucking ghosting.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: I believe in setting expectations for a call.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: It's no one's like responsibility but my own to determine my calendar.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: But I did 50 calls in Q4, almost all from entrepreneurs or referrals from it.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: These are not like women that didn't have revenue.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: There are people in there I talked to that are at six figures, seven figures, eight figures.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: My prices are not too high.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: This was just a culture.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: We go chat, and I'm so fucking over it.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: So we started like going through a whole sales call route in the DMs and being explicit up front.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Like, hey, I can discuss this with you at length in here if you're actually interested to work together.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: If you just want to know the details, here's my carousel on the offer.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: Here's my carousel on the case studies.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Here's my podcast on our five-step DM flow.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Go look at the shit I already made.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Learn something before you ask questions.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Like, so that was the deal.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: That makes so much sense.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: And I know a lot of people listening are in that boat where like they're drowning in the DMs.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: They have so many leads.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: Everyone wants a fucking coffee chat.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: I don't do coffee chats anymore.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Like I'm very explicit about that.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I do not have time for that.
- 14:27SPEAKER_03: I can yap with you in the DMs.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: We can voice note all day.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: Um I love that because I can open and close the conversation based on my own time.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: I don't do coffee chats.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: I think a lot of women are listening to this are in this boat.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: And I what I think what I'm picking up on is that you are creating structure boundaries in a container for these conversations instead of just letting people just walk willy-nilly into your life and boss you around.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: And I emboss you around, but like there's no structure.
- 14:51SPEAKER_03: And you're like, okay, here's how we can talk, here's how we can work together, here's how you can learn about this, but this is how this is the container if you enter my world.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: And I think that structure is how you can sell more instead of spending.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, you just told that whole story.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: Like you spent all that time, made way less sales, and then you're frustrated, and then they're frustrated.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: So, how do you go from walking through the DM conversation from going like, hey girl, love that, or oh my God, love that content, to here's my Cinestripe account.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Like, how do I how do we go from this to that?
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: And I think to go back for a second, what I think people forget, which I've learned hard lessons over 11 years, and it's worth noting, and Marie said this at the beginning, it's very pertinent that I'm in recovery from addiction.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: So I've been sober nearly four years, and before that, my business was a different thing.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: I was not the same person I am now.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: So over the last four years, I've learned a lot of lessons very quickly that I was unable and didn't learn in the first seven years.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Or so one of those being your client experience starts with day one when Marie says hi, if she's my lead, or if I say hi.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: That's the very beginning of my experience.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: So people think your client experience starts with onboarding.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: Your client experience starts with sales before you get to onboarding.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: And Marie knows and I know, I to my team, I dictate our onboarding experience.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: I decide this is how we sign people, this is how we onboard, this is how we manage, hit feedback, offboard, upsell.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: I get to make those decisions because it's my company.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: I also get to decide before that what my sales cycle, my sales process looks like.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: And when I decided I didn't want to do sales calls anymore, everybody had to follow suit.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: The only reason I do sales calls is if a deal is over 10 to 20 brand and there's two co-founders or three co-founders and a team, and we need three, four, five people in one place at one time to make a decision.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Then I do sales calls.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Everybody else, if I'm talking to a solopreneur, we can decide in the DMs.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: That's one piece of it.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: And like Marie said too, this all goes to like productization.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: The more we can streamline, systemize, like de-escalate all the customization, then it gets a lot easier to scale more sales.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Like our sales process is Heather says in the DMs, I need lead gen help.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: My team takes over the conversation.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: I tap in if needed, they close in the DMs.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: We tell Audrey that the three details to send them a contract, and the teams got it.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: From there, I can only do that because I productized the offer and I streamlined the sales process that I wanted.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, um, DM sales.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: So we have a five-step DM sales process.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: I've adjusted the wording over the last four years, but it's pretty much the same.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: It's pretty much how I've closed every sale.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: And Marie knows this, but our point of sale, like our top point of sale, meaning the one thing people look at at the end before they purchase is my Instagram stories.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: So that's like part of our sales process too.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: But it's been pretty much the same for a long, long time.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: And Marie in Cocktails and Clothes, I also did a uh workshop on this.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: So you guys can listen to that episode.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: So yeah, a lot of DM conversations are gonna start with like it, love it, your dog is cute.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: That's cool that you live in Denver, etc.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: After that, our five-step process is goals are first, challenges or progress getting to the goals is second.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Then we go into consent to offer a solution.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: We talk about the offer, and then we talk about any questions, concerns, objections that they have.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: That's really the process.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: I think to put my middle finger up, one of the big ones in the middle there is consent.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: So I'm not Marie and I were talking about event sales before this.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: If I'm selling my event tickets or my web design offer or my copywriting or my coaching, et cetera, I'm not gonna say, like, you know, Marie's gonna be like, I just can't decide, like, you know, if my offer is priced well enough, if I'm positioned well enough, and let's say I'm a coach and I could help her with that.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Marie isn't gonna say, like, you know, these are my, this is like where I'm at.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: And then I immediately say, like, oh, Marie, well, I could help you.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Do you want to do my coaching program?
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna go that fast.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: So in the middle, there we're asking for permission, we're asking for consent and permission and consent.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: That's what I think people fuck up on, and you'll ruin everything without.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: So, what are some ways just right there?
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: I want to pause, like, what are some ways we could be like phrasing that permission and consent?
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: Because I know everyone here hates being sold to in that way, and yet we still accidentally do it.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: So, how do you do that?
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think like in in terms of like sales style too, like you don't have to sell to people exactly the way that you want to buy, but I wouldn't sell to people the way you don't want to be sold to.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: There was a lot of double negatives in there.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: But I would try to figure out how you want to sell that you don't hate, that other people do, that also aligns with how your buyer is responding.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: So, in terms of like the permission or consent in the middle there, let's say that let's say that I'm like selling, trying to think of an example.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Let's say that I'm selling like Emily on our Legion services.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: This is one of our last clients that signed.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: And Emily comes and tells me, like, hey, so I saw your threads about like your client case studies.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: And right now I have a bunch of leads, but they're all in my email, like they're all my email list.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Everybody, it's a big topic for us right now.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: All of our leads are in our email list.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: We had 47 people who got my freebie in the last month and a half, but I'm selling one to mini and I don't actually know their names, and I'm not in a one-on-one conversation with them.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: We're just emailing them one to mini.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: So I told Emily like one piece of free advice for her situation.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: I was like, hey, all you need to do is add an Instagram form field to your email list.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Everybody knew you're gonna get their Instagram and you can follow up with them one-on-one.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: I would also ask anyone on your email list to reach out to us on Instagram if they want to get to know us better and get, you know, their next one tip on this goal.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: So in a sales conversation, if someone has says something that's like a cue, like, oh, I need more leads, I can help with that.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Or I have leads, I can help with that.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: So they say that.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: I'll give one piece of advice.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: They say, Oh my God, this is brilliant.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Then I would say, Hey, Emily, I actually think I could really help you ongoing with your lead situation.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: If I was to support you, I would like go through these couple of steps together and just give an overview.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: Like, this is your lead situation.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: I gave you this one tip, I've got more ideas.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: For you?
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Is that something that you would want to hear about?
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: Where I could tell you my whole recommendations of what to do next in your process to get to this goal.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: She says, yes, tell me, tell me, tell me.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Then I tell her the details.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: I'll also say, like, these are common like flops.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: If Emily says, if my lead Emily says to me, like, oh, tell me all the details of your offer.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to write out a Bible of every deliverable of my offer.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: I'm also not going to send, I'm so guilty of this shit.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: Eight minutes of voice notes explaining my offer.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to say, go back to the sales page.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: And I'm not going to say, let's book a call.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: I'm going to give her a consolidated version of what we do.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: And I'll send a voice note and then I'll write out the key points.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: I've done that for a long time.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: It's like a piece of consideration to make my message accessible to a buyer.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: If they want to listen to me, they can listen.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: If they don't have time, they see the short details written out and can decide when they can listen to the voice note.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: But when I tell somebody you're offered details, I'll basically say, like, we do this.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: I think it would work for you because of this.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: These are other people it's worked for.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Do you want to hear more details?
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: Love.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: I fucking love that.
- 23:19unknown: Yeah.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: I feel like you're doing this like something similar, really.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: I could reel back the time on the fucking voice notes.
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: I I like my sales cycle is taking well.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm gonna preface my podcast clients.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: I only take on eight clients at a time, so I don't need to fill.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: But if I were like needing to scale that, like I wouldn't be able to hold space because I'm talking too long.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: I'm just like making friends.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: Like quick, it's just quick.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: Here's what's happening.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: Are you interested?
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: I love these questions.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Do you want to hear more?
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: Are you interested?
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: Like people just like that, and then that gives them the open, the gives them the door.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: And if they're not, then you don't waste your time.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: They're not being sold to, but I I love that.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: Okay, so then after permission and consent, what's the next step?
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: I would say two, well, two things.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: First of all, Marie and I can yap.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: You you know that like we can yap.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: So I've like made it a mission for the last couple of months to cut my voice notes down to more than five minutes to like two to three minutes at the max.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: So I've been working on it.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: It's like a whole new habit and like behavior to be said.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: I have to unlearn everything I was doing for the 11 years up until now.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: The second thing is when you're in that conversation, the next step.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: So, like, let's say Emily tells me her goals.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: She's got lots of leads, but she can't get back to them all at all.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Emily told me something so funny.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: She was like, Well, you told me to take my leads from my email, put them in a lead tracker, add people who had an Instagram, reach out to them about the lead, about the freebie.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: So she did that.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Then she did like seven conversations.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: Emily, I hope you ask this.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Then Emily did like seven conversations, came back to me, and she was like, What the fuck?
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: This is so boring.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: And I was like, No one has ever said this to me.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: I think this is a classic reason why you should focus on delivering to your clients and not answering a thousand questions that you already know the answers to to get people in and then like enter us.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: But she told me what her goal is.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: She has leads and she wants to close them.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: She told me the challenge.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: She said, This is fucking boring.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: I don't want to do this.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Then I asked her consent.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: Can I tell you what I would do?
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: And and if we is a good fit, we'll talk about like how we would do it.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: She said yes.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: I told her about the offer, sent a voice note, I wrote it out.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Then we get into the questions and objections.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: So in this situation, there's always a reason to talk about like ethical urgency, which is the end of the line.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Marie has a reason.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: I have a reason.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: Emily has a reason.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: For Marie, she only takes eight clients at a time.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: She only has one spot left for September 15th, and she needs two weeks to onboard you and she has five leads.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: I need you to make a decision.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Do you want in or out?
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: I need to know in three business days.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: For me, we only take two new clients every Tuesday.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: I've done that exact same thing since the beginning of the fucking year.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: It's flawless.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Could I take less?
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: Can I take more?
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: But we can only take, as a baseline, two new clients each Tuesday and we need two weeks in advance to encore them.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: So the spots left every month, these are the spots left.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: If you don't get them, you wait till next month, which means I can tell you my dates.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: I also have to tell you when I need a decision by you to get in.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: So like we have clients right now who want to start on next Tuesday, on September 25th.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: I can't start you on September 25th because we need two weeks to onboard you.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: So if you want to start the week after, you have to decide and pay two weeks before then.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: So when I'm talking to someone at the end of the road, I'm going to say, like, hey, Emily, so it looks like you have a launch coming up that is two weeks away.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Usually we have at least four weeks to warm up people for a launch.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: If you want to get going, we would have to start at our soonest date, which is this Tuesday, which means I need a decision by from you by this Tuesday.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Are you is that something feasible for you to decide?
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: She says yes.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: I sent her an email of the details.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: She came back and said, like, yes, the team is approved.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: I'll sign by tomorrow.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: So we can start the following Tuesday.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: Like that's how we do it.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: Again, to go back to sales process and closing in the DMs, like my sales process and when people buy is up to me.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: I don't give a fuck or believe in people ghosting.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: Either Emily wants to pay me, like, either I'm a top priority for Emily, she has the budget, she wants to start this month, she's ready to roll, she can make a decision by the agreed upon timeline, or she can't.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: And if she doesn't answer me within two or three days, or if someone, you know, doesn't want to start for two or three months or is just like fucking around, I don't have time for it.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: You're not ghosting me.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: I'm either a priority to you and you get back on the timelines we agreed upon, or like get the fuck out.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna keep going through the list.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: And when you're ready, you can come back.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: But it's just like a classic scaling situation where like I just don't have time for this.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: It's not that I don't have time for you, I have time for the people that need us the most soon.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: If you don't need us until November, come back a month before that.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: We don't have time to treat everyone with the same level of time as those that are ready versus those that aren't.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: I guess I have a question with the DMs though.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: Like, so I was I took Chelby Sapp's course, which was specifically about how to close on a sales call.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: So I I am well versed in that.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Um I would not personally know how to handle objections on a in a DM.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: I say I wouldn't, I probably I know how to do it, but like when do you drop pricing?
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: Like, is it already on your carousels?
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: Is it everything already like clearly transparent?
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: And then it's like, or like if it's not mine, are um my prices just changed, so they're not transparent.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: Do I just email them my service page since we're not getting on a sales call?
- 29:14SPEAKER_03: Um, I guess my thing is when they're not on the call, they can make their own objections, their own assumptions, versus when they're on the call, you can ask them in the moment, like what's coming up for you?
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: Like they could easily stop.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:27SPEAKER_03: So the prices, I think, where people listening are probably like, no, no, no, no, no, I still need a sales call, you know.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: I think, well, Marie knows all these answers for me.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: She's just guying.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: I edit your podcast so I know the answers, but she knows me very well, and she knows everything we spew on the podcast too.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: But pricing is such a classic mistake.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you all.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: I just did my like Q1 financial check-in for the last uh like over four hours for the last like day or two, and I'm on track for like 250K revenue this year and at 113k close so far.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: And I mean, it's been a lot of work, but like I'm not surprised that we're at that revenue goal.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: Like that's where it should be.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: So I'm saying as a multi-six figure founder, multi-six figure a year founder, if I go to buy from Chelsea Davis or pal, if I go to pay Chelsea for branding and her prices are on her fucking posts and her sales page website, I'm done.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I don't have time for it.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know if Chelsea is gonna charge me a thousand bucks or 10 grand or 20 grand.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: If I can't tell my baseline of investment with you pretty much immediately, I literally just don't have time.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: I need to know if this is within the budget that my team and I have already figured out or not.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: So the answer would be most people like skip that because they're scared.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: But our job as marketers, and I say this a lot too, and this is why I can close in the DMs and not need a sales call.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: My job is that you already know my value and 99% of the questions you would ask me about buying before you talk to me, which means they're like 90 plus percent pre-sold.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: So I have a Wooly sales content recipe.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: Marie knows all this.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: We do carousels on it and stories and threads and reels and emails.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: At the top of my feed right now, we have an offer post that covers everything about my offer and the pricing and a down sale.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: So that's number one, I have an offer post with pricing.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Number two, I have case studies so people can see the value and how it's worked for others.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: Then I have an FAQs carousel.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: Everybody looks at the offer post.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: The offer post does like two to three times better than every other post, period.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: That's where people go to see the bottom line details that they need to know to buy.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Then they watch my stories to hear me talk about it and close in the DMs.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: The offer post does the very best.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: People look at it without us showing it to them.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: So they've already seen that.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: But the post we send to people the most is Marie says, Well, how fast can you make me sales?
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: Well, can we adjust the commission?
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: Well, have you worked with someone with my offer price?
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: All that shit is in a 15-page FAQ's carousel.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: I say, Here, Marie, here's the carousel.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: Check it out.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: Let me know follow-up questions.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: I think this will answer a lot of them.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: Then somebody came to me.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: I feel like this was Kayla.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: She was like, Oh, well, you answered everything I wanted to know.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: I did nothing.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: I made a carousel that took me 30 minutes.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: I'll send that to Kayla and 10 more people.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: I said, Kayla, here's the answer to every fucking question we've gotten in the last month.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Let me know if that answers them.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: And she said, All set, send me the invoice.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: So I would do that, but the pricing, yeah, I would put on your website, your carousel, talk about it in your stories.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: Your job marketing is to answer most of the questions that people are already asking and need to know.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: If I don't know the questions someone is gonna ask me before they buy, then I need to go figure them out.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: I need to do a market research call.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: I need to ask in the DMs, I need to go back to people that turn me down.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: I need to go back to people that said, yes.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: What were your top concerns before you paid me, Kayla?
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: And she'll tell me.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: And I can make carousel content stories on that and pre-answer people's questions before they answer.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: All of this, Marino's too, is in the sake of sales efficiency.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: If you want to scale, you have to have a simple, repeatable sales process, which means that we have a lead tracker, we have a five-step DM sales flow, we have carousels that take the work off the team and I.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: We're mostly not doing sales calls unless it's over a 10 to 20k deal.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: Like we have a process and then you just keep doing it because like there's ease to it.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: Oh my God, so good.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: Like that is just gold.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: And also, this is gonna lead to like one of my last questions.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: Like, I want to talk about podcasting where this falls into this place.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: So I think again, I don't think podcasting needs to be your number one purchase in your business.
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: I do think when it comes to scaling, it's absolutely fucking necessary because you now we're talking about as we're still trying to avoid sales calls.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: You have 2,500 DMs waiting for you to answer.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: And then you have these carousels, but then there's still gonna be the people who's who like they need that trust factor.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: They just found you on Instagram, they found you on threads, then Instagram.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: They see your stories, they see your carousels, they want to talk to you.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: You're too busy, your team's only gonna answer, you're not answering.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: How can I get to know Alyssa?
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: They go to your podcast, they listen to they can binge hours about what you do for your clients.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: We also I love to tell my clients to do objection handling episodes.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: You can literally do episodes on objections and then send those episodes to people who have objections.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Like the podcast does the sales call for you.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: So that's my take on how this helps in the sales process.
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: But like, what's it been like now that you've had the podcast?
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: Because that's only been we only start the podcast, I think, in February or March.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: So not if you I don't know what time we've had like we did this, maybe four months, maybe five months have we had the podcast?
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: I think four months because I did my like first half of the year financial recap.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: So I know how many times I've paid you.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Um, also on that note, I I told my dad, I told my husband, my CRO, I would pay Marie whatever she wants because the ROI just increases.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: So my podcast investment with Marie, like I had an ROI, I think, in the first six weeks, and I was busy.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: We were not marketing it hard.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: I was not posting all the beautiful carousels Marie makes or tagging people or making threads or making more than one.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: But I made an ROI from my podcast in the first like six weeks.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: Now the podcast is making me like tens of thousands in sales and lots in cash too.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: Tens and tens of thousands in sales each month.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: And we know, like you're you know, attributing that podcast in terms of like an investment, podcast investment, marketing investment, your marketing, your podcast are part of a sales ecosystem.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: So when we're writing like lead sources and path to purchase in our lead tracker, all like mark, and I have the team doing this, and I told you, we do a checkbox if people said they've listened to the podcast.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: When we onboard, we ask them again if they've listened to the podcast.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: So I know before I purchase, like before people purchase and after, was the podcast a contributing factor in even like which episodes actually made sales, not just which downloaded the bet like the most.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: So I would say like podcast has really shortened the sales cycle.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: There are my threads, my podcast is linked there.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Our friend Taylor Lane is a threads genius.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: She's coming on the podcast.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: But you know, Marie made my podcast with me.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: Taylor taught me how to use like leverage threads to get leads.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: I'd say my general path to purchase for a lot of leads right now, and five of seven last month of our like clients came to us from threads to podcasts to Instagram stories to DM sales close.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: One of them was a$9,500 deal.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: We did a sales call, but she went through all that process first, then a sales call.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: So that process is working really well.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: People go to threads, my podcast is linked, then they listen to the podcast, they look at my carousels, they watch the Instagram stories, they DM us, we close in the DMs.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: So the podcast, like a lot of our sales can be attributed to the podcast, I'd say like 60, 70 plus percent of like$25,000 months.
- 37:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: It's a big amount.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: So I would say, like, if you get the right podcast person, which is Marie, then your podcast is going to be lucrative.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: And your note too, from before I think we started the recording, if you're gonna make a podcast, you need to have solid branding and positioning.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: And I would argue in 2026, you need to be known for one thing.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: I I do DM sales, I'm known for one thing.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, people know I do Instagram stories, I've been doing threads, but that's not what service I offer.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: I'm known for lead gen lead management through DM sales.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: If people say my name, they say Alyssa does DM sales.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: If you're known for one thing and you can make the podcast amplify that, it's gonna do so, so well.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: But honestly, the people who I like think about are people like those in Cocktails and Clothes, where like I do marketing, I do social media, I'm a copywriter, I'm a coach, I do web design.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: You gotta stick out more than that.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: Like in the niche, I want you guys to stick out more than that.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: You can build an incredible personal brand too, and like Chelsea could be the one person everybody hires for brand and design because she's or now brand strategy.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: Sorry, Chelsea.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: You could be the one person everyone hires for that, but even then she's changing from just brand and designer to a brand strategist.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: If you can like set yourself apart, then make the marketing branding podcast on that.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: Your sales is going to be way easier with the podcast included.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: But you want to be talking about, you know, things that people are asking about, but that not lots of other people are talking about, which is that like you're known for one thing.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: Oh my God.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: Literally, just yes, that's exactly how you have a successful podcast and where you can monetize it.
- 39:38SPEAKER_03: That's literally it.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Like you, it's not just having a niche, it's a niche within the niche.
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: Like you are one of fucking one.
- 39:45SPEAKER_03: And like again, like you're not and I I'm gonna use my podcast as an example.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: I don't use my podcast in the most in a way I would tell my clients to this is a fun podcast, there's not a lot of strategy.
- 39:57SPEAKER_03: I'm not really monetizing it.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: Like, it's a general business podcast.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: Like, this is not something I would consider successful.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: I'm doing this for shits and giggles.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: The minute I'd want to turn this thing into a monetization machine, I would do everything you just said.
- 40:12SPEAKER_03: You niche the fuck down.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: You are one of one and you use it as part of a sales machine, but I can't help you make money if you don't know what's going on at the very first step, which is who are you?
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Who do you serve?
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Like, even I'm a podcast producer.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: I could say I'm a podcast producer for coaches.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go one step further.
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: I'm a podcast producer for high-ticket six figure coaches, I'm gonna go one step further.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: I'm a podcast producer for high-ticket six-figure coaches who want to make money and not just downloads.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: That's how niche I've gotten.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: People come to me and it's very easy.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: If I someone comes to me and they're a Latina podcaster, I'm like, you need to go to my friend Heidi.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: If you want to do brand sponsor uh podcast sponsorships, I'm like, you need to go to my friend Katie.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: But if you're a coach who has all those requirements where you know what you're fucking doing, you have an audience, you know what you're selling your niche, I can make you money.
- 41:02SPEAKER_03: And I think just niching the fuck down, a podcast will be a natural like sales machine for you.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: But it's not, you have to have all those elements.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, I would say, like, I mean, if I was to name your niche and not just the ideal client tied to the niche, I would say, like, call like podcast revenue, podcast profit, lucrative podcast.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: No one talks about that.
- 41:28SPEAKER_00: Marie has like case studies and testimonials, I think, up from me about how much money I've made from the podcast, but everybody talks about a podcast that can get you visibility.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I'm turning down speaking gigs now.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: I don't want fucking visibility.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: I don't give a fuck.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: I'm visible enough.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: I want money.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: I don't like I don't care to be on a stage with a pink pantsuit.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: Marie knows my whole TED talk on this.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: I don't need to stand over you all and preach down at you.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: I I don't need to do every fucking masterclass.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: I just said no to a masterclass, and she was like, We went to a new masterclass on team sales.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: I was like, cute, when's that gonna happen?
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: I'm booked for three months of visibility gigs, but let me know like if you have something for November.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: And she was like, you just need to join and become a paid blah blah blah, and it'll pay off.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: No, no, at this point, I should be getting paid as a speaker, even virtually.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: I'm not because I consider like I consider speaking a public service.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a way that I give back to people.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: I share my time and expertise for free.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: So I'm not pursuing the like paid speaking route yet, but I don't need more fucking visibility through my podcast.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: I'm looking for people that want to spend money to get our expert services.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: So someone that puts themselves as like, yeah, like it's just ironic because like your podcast is actually doing very well, and I could see it becoming quite visible, but like your trajectory is like really good.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: But it's also like it's also making me money, by the way.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: And Marie knows about this, and I hope it comes to fruition.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: Um, me and Laura and Taylor just put all of our podcast stats into our proposal for Flowdesk because we're working on an email to threads to DM sales collaboration for like September, October.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: So our podcast stats now are gonna help us get massive fucking visibility, ideally.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: I hope it all works out.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: We'd love to collab with Flowdesk, they're the best.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: But yeah, hopefully, like our podcast stats, yeah, are like our podcast is making money.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: Podcast stats are also helping us make more money.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, so that's like visibility stats.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: Like that's pretty hot.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: Laura's podcast stats, who Marie also does, are like way better than mine, but that's because she's longer.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: She's it, yeah, she's been at it longer, but also she's so niche that she's showing up in Chat GBT and in Claude when people type in travel influencer and she's getting brand deals because she's one of ones.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: So I need to do a whole I I actually haven't I've done the one biggest mistake on this podcast.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: Which I would never tell my clients to do, I haven't talked about my own services at all.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: I just want to hang out with my fucking friends.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: And that's what podcasts can be too.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: They don't have to be a money-making machine.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: But the minute you want it to be, it takes a different strategy.
- 44:14SPEAKER_03: But um, I need to actually talk about my own expertise, and I will get to that.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: But um, to wrap up, tell us what your podcast is, tell us where people can find you, blah, blah, blah.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: So my podcast produced by the one and only podcast revenue strategist, Marie Walker.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: My podcast is called The DM Sales Gow.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: I'm glad we finally got that name because we had others and they were trademarked.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: It was but Marie caught it and I didn't.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: I was like, who gives a fuck if it's trademarked?
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: No, it obviously, if if Chandler or Alex listen to this, like, sorry guys, we know the value of trademarking.
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: I promise.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: Who cares if it's trademarked?
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it's called the DM Sales Gal.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: We talk about Instagram stories and DM sales behind the scenes of my sales.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: Marie told me I had to get a bunch of like clients on my podcast, so I did.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: We have one of those coming in the next week, and then more and more after that.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: But the podcast is called the DM Sales Gal.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: We talk a lot about what we've talked about here in even more detail.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: You guys can find me on Instagram.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: It's my full name, Alyssa L.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: Moorehead, because somebody else took Alyssa Moorhead, even though they don't use their Instagram.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: So fuck that bitch.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: But mine is Alyssa L.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: Moorehead, and you can find me there.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: And listen to the podcast because Marie and I together have made it pretty damn good.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: I honestly didn't know it was gonna do this well.
- 45:39SPEAKER_03: I'm not surprised, but I didn't plan the trajectory is very I mean we're really, really, really early in, but the trajectory is way but it's way bonita.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: It is very good.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: Like it's like doubling every month, it's doubling on itself.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: And that was even when we missed an episode, it still doubled.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: Um and the like the guest episodes do so well.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: I didn't even know you could do what Barie does, where like I have a bunch more of those to give you.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: I've been on a shitload of podcasts, and no one ever asked, and I didn't think to put them on mine.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: Totally clear.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: I didn't know you could like put a podcast on another podcast.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: Like that's women's.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: No one's doing that.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: No one's doing that.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: That's why people didn't know to do it.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: It should be known too, because like people don't always market their podcast that well.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: Not everybody has Marie Walker to make them carousels on every fucking episode every week.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: So if I do like a podcast, the next one I'm coming out is with Teresa Jean on Friday, and she's a master marketer, she'll market it.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: But if I do a podcast with someone who's not a fantastic marketer, nobody fucking hears about it on anything but podcast, and it deserves more trash and visibility than that.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: So that's like you can give the podcast guest episode more in that way.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's go into cocktail hour, which is my favorite part.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: We can just yip yep about anything.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: I want to talk about before we vlog off, I want to talk about our moves because we are both from the south.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: We both don't relate being from the south, and we don't have to get into the details of that.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: We just don't love the south.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: And then we both finally moved back out west.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: And I am the happiest I've been in years, and I've been traveling the world for three years, which is epic.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: I want to preface like that was epic.
- 47:24SPEAKER_03: No, but being back out.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: Haven't you been to like 17 countries or something?
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: Like 24 countries.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: I'm not a counter because I feel like people that count are traveling for clout, and I I just travel for vibes.
- 47:39SPEAKER_03: Like, if I feel like going to France five times in a year, I'll go, you know.
- 47:43SPEAKER_00: We have yet to find a fucking con about Denver.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: I would say that like registering your car here is like pretty serious, but we're gonna get through it.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: That's my biggest con.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's my biggest con.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: But other than that, which is stupid fucking adulting shit, I love it here so much, and it's worth prefacing too that in the last four months, we moved on May 1st, and it's now August 18th.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: In the last four months, my husband and I got married.
- 48:16SPEAKER_00: We didn't do a fucking wedding, we didn't do like a reception for a wedding.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: We went to the courthouse in Louisville, Kentucky, and we went there and we were done in an hour.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: And then I think we got Taco Bell.
- 48:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we got Taco Bell.
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: We bought like double the Taco Bell on the way home and took gummies, and it was awesome.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: But, anyways, we got married, had a steakhouse dinner with like 25 people to celebrate the wedding a couple weeks later.
- 48:42SPEAKER_00: Then we packed up our shit, moved across the country from Louisville to Denver while my business took off to the biggest place it's ever been.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: So, like just a little bit going on.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: We now have 13 people on our team alone, and our client roster has gone anywhere from like 10 to 15 at a given time, and we should have 20 to 25 at the end of the year.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: So it's been busy, but in terms of like all of that work and changes catching up with me, when I turned 34 on July 10th, like now I cry even more than I did at 33.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: Okay, like tears of fucking gratitude.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: But Jay came home from a walk yesterday.
- 49:26SPEAKER_00: I was sitting on our porch with Gambit, the cat, in his cat pen that's outside, and I'm like looking at the fucking like boulder sunset to the right, which I can see from our Denver place in Sloan's Lake.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at the mountains to the right with the sunset, which is fucking ridiculously beautiful and different every fucking day.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at the sunset and he comes home and it's like 8:30, and I'm already crying.
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: And he's like, Do you need some tissues?
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: Like, maybe we could get it together.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: Like, I want you to eat dinner, but you're crying too hard and your nose is stopped up, so you can't like eat the food that I'm trying to fucking feed you.
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I'm the happiest I've ever been.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Every single day I look, I go outside at like 5:30 or so with the cat to let it my cat out like a dog in the morning, and I look left and see downtown Denver close.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: We're seven minutes away.
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: And I look right and see the boulder fucking mountain range that's panoramic around the whole apartment.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: Not to mention the fact that we're paying fucking$1,500 a month to live in a brand new built, beautiful bedroom.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: I know that's all Jay.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: I don't do this like adulting shit the way he does.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: He's so much better, so much better at it.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I'm so happy he found us an incredible deal.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: I look outside every morning and just like tear up because I I'm like trying not to cry now because I just like can't believe that we got here because Louisville, Kentucky was fucking killing me.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: I'm from Louisville, and New York for 12 years, back to Louisville to go to rehab and get sober.
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: We stayed there for three years and we meant to be there for one, and then we finally made it here, and like we don't even have kids, but it's been so much fucking work, I can't even put words to it.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: And to like look outside every morning and literally see the fruits of our labors that like we made it to our dream city because the two of us worked our asses off together for four years is impressive and beautiful and emotional.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: It was so much work.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: No, I I'm I I'm in the same boat.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Like I spent three years trying to get back to the same place I used to live.
- 51:29SPEAKER_03: Like I but with my own money and I so I used to live in the hood in LA.
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: Not like not like the hood where it's like some gunshots.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: I'm talking like fucking terrifying.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: Like not not joking.
- 51:43SPEAKER_03: I'm not even like I'm talking stalked, stalked daily in broad daylight.
- 51:49SPEAKER_03: I would run into shops and tell the women I'm being stalked, and they were so desensitized, they were like, I I don't care because they're being stalked daily.
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: And I would be stalked into my house.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: Uh one man stalked me with a laser and put pointing it into my room.
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: I've lived in all kinds of dangerous neighborhoods, and I've never felt unsafe.
- 52:08SPEAKER_03: It was just this particular neighborhood that was I cannot believe I survived it.
- 52:12SPEAKER_03: Like, and I was so casual about it because I was again like those women, desensitized.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: So I went from that within three years.
- 52:20SPEAKER_03: I have built my business to where I am now paying the most rent I've ever paid, but also I'm at 11 minutes from the beach, and I'm I'm living in the most expensive zip code in Los Angeles, like in three years.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: In Louisville, we lived in a terrifying place too.
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: Everyone thinks like Louisville is the home of the Derby and like Bourbon Town is like literally what it's called.
- 52:40SPEAKER_00: And nobody who is, you know, not familiar with addiction wants to talk about the fact that addiction is fucking rampant in downtown Louisville.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: When I walked out of our building, I had to tell neighbors with dogs and myself not to step on needles used to shoot heroin on our block.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: So, and we're also both in recovery.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Also both sober.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: So being exposed to the paraphernalia of that, the evidence of that.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: And then I also got stalked in a van broad daylight, December 5 p.m.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: He tried to pull over and put me into his van.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: And when I ran away screaming down the road, like waving my hands and shit, looking fucking nuts because I was terrified.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: Another man pulled up behind him and said, Hey, it looks like that guy was trying to kidnap you.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: Do you want to get in my van and I'll take you home?
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: No.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: No, still not that either.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: Which kidnap would do you prefer?
- 53:47SPEAKER_03: A or B?
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: One that's like a surprise kidnapping or like a kidnapping to.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: Fucking weak.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: I'm so glad that we are both in like our dream places.
- 54:02SPEAKER_03: And we're not, I mean, we're close to each other, but we're not close at all.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: Just annoying because that's the West Coast.
- 54:07SPEAKER_03: Like, technically, we share this like similar time zones, but it's like actually a bitch to get to each other.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: So we both work in epic places to like go visit, you know?
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: I'm planning to have like Denver events maybe end of next year or the following when I'm ready.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: But you know, my event is gonna like like I won't have to pay for the conference venue because it will be a mountaintop.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: So if that's your vibe, that is my conference will be cheaper.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 54:40SPEAKER_03: I would love a camping conference, like around a campfire, like something so chill, no fancy outfits.
- 54:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the speaker.
- 54:48SPEAKER_03: Wait, I'm actually on to something.
- 54:49SPEAKER_03: The speaker is like you just stand up in front of the fire pit and give a speech, and we all like have our notepads.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: But let's actually have a fucking campfire.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying we're gonna go glamping.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: I'm like, you bring a tent, I have a tent, you better have a like to pull over.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: Wait, I am a dead ass.
- 55:09SPEAKER_03: Actually, this is like the cheapest conference.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: It would be so fun.
- 55:12SPEAKER_03: We just like cook out, talk around campfires, brainstorm, go on hikes, go swimming.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: Wait, yeah.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: Like the investment cost for people would be like, you need to get a ticket to Denver, and then if you could please bring your favorite type of chocolate bar so we can make some really high quality s'mores.
- 55:33SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm dead ass.
- 55:34SPEAKER_03: Like after this talk, like I want to keep talking about this because I would totally go in on this conference, like this little camp conference.
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: Camp conference.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm so down.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: But it won't even like it'll be so it'll we just like rent out like a campground and then we have like picnic tables and um well, yeah.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say, like, also the one that I just went to that so Abby Braytic's retreat, my friend, was my first retreat in Denver.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: She rented like a villa in the mountains that had like six bedrooms or something.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: That was super fun too.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: If we decide we don't want to camp, but I'm down to camp.
- 56:11SPEAKER_03: I think camping would be so cool and so unique.
- 56:15SPEAKER_03: And also it would definitely filter out any like anyone who just doesn't want to do that.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: But like the people who would only who would this experience like would make them so happy would be like so gung-ho, like Laura.
- 56:27SPEAKER_03: Like Laura would be on on it, like you know, and Laura would bring the best all over.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: I know I miss Maddie.
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: She came to my pool, but I need to invite her again.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: But yeah, when we were at that retreat, of course, I was the one who was like outside an hour in the morning and outside an hour in the evening at least.
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: And everyone else was like, we're gonna go hiking one time, and I'm like, I'm gonna be outside at least three hours every day because I cannot physically be indoors like a dog.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: Like I have to go outside.
- 56:56SPEAKER_00: I am a dog, I just in a human body.
- 56:58SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm gonna throw, I'm gonna tell Laura about this.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: Like, I think it could be so chill.
- 57:02SPEAKER_03: Like, and it's what we could do like next summer in Denver or something, or even spring in Denver.

- 57:52SPEAKER_00: There's a specific eight-sequence formula of those ingredients, and the best performing ones of all of my content, besides my awesome podcast carousels that Marie makes for us, would be my offer post, my FAQs post, and my client stories post.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: As we talked about in this episode, I'm happy to gift you guys one of those carousel templates.
