- 0:02Happy Thursday morning, everybody.
- 0:07Today's coffee with Kenny is about being sure of yourself and
- 0:12believing in what you're doing and believing in what you're
- 0:15saying, being sure of yourself. So that leads me to Waylon
- 0:21Jennings. Let's go to Luchenbach, Texas.
- 0:27Waylon and Willie and the boys, they're successful, live at a
- 0:33living, sing the rest of it. All right, So Waylon Jennings
- 0:44and Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder.
- 0:49Remember Stevie Wonder, Stevie Blind.
- 0:52But boy, he can sing. Stevie still living with us.
- 0:55Or is he not I? I don't remember Stevie Wonder
- 0:58still living. But anyway, I'll watch his
- 1:02documentary and remember that song.
- 1:07We are the world, we are the children, we are the ones who
- 1:13make a better day. So let's start live.
- 1:16Anyway, that song. So after like the Grammys, I
- 1:22know 30-40 years ago, years ago, they said we're going to get all
- 1:27the stars together, the greatest stars that America and the world
- 1:32has. And we're going to raise money
- 1:36and we, we're going to, you know, feed the children because
- 1:40there was people starving, you know, in other parts of the
- 1:43world. Well, the only problem when you
- 1:46do this is you, you gather up all the stars and boy, they got
- 1:51egos. You know, they're, I'm, I'm the
- 1:54best. There's nobody better than me.
- 1:58So anyway, Stevie Wonder, you know, he starts acting goofy.
- 2:05He says, I don't want to change the words to we are the world to
- 2:09something different, something from some other country.
- 2:13And everybody's trying to, you know, calm Stevie down.
- 2:19And so all of a sudden you see Waylon Jennings just walk out,
- 2:28walk the hell out. Now stop and think about it.
- 2:33You got the greatest musicians in the world in this room.
- 2:37I mean, you look back and they're it's a who's who.
- 2:41It's a smorgasbord of, I mean, the greatest, I mean, all the
- 2:46names. So you want to be part of this
- 2:49Waylon Jennings. He just walked out.
- 2:52Lionel Richie, when they're doing this documentary, Lionel
- 2:56Richie said during this process of trying to calm Stevie Wonder
- 3:01down. You know, Waylon Jennings, he's
- 3:04a badass. Waylon, you know, he's a country
- 3:07boy and he's, you know, from somewhere.
- 3:09I don't know where he's from, Texas, you know, Nashville,
- 3:13wherever it is. Waylon left and he walked out
- 3:19like a boss. He's like, I don't need all you
- 3:21crazy ass people y'all thinking, you know, just let's sing the
- 3:25damn song. Stevie was all jacked up on Sun
- 3:30Drop. Wanted to change the words right
- 3:32in front of, you know, 50 to 100 of the greatest singers and
- 3:36musicians. That leads me to this.
- 3:45Being comfortable in your own shoes, standing for what you
- 3:49believe in. I'm going to make a hard, I'm
- 3:54going to make a hard 90° right here.
- 3:56Hang on. OK, I'm going to make a hard 90°
- 4:00here. Hang on.
- 4:03Bernie Sanders, the politician, a lot of people thinks he's just
- 4:08crazy because he wants everybody to be the same.
- 4:13And Bernie's, you know, Bernie says what he says, but one thing
- 4:18everybody agrees on, if Bernie believes in what he says and
- 4:22he's been saying it forever. So Waylon and Jennings believed
- 4:29in what he believed in. And he said, I don't need none
- 4:32of you nut cases. You must think you're perfect
- 4:35wanting to change the word to watch the documentary, you,
- 4:38you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
- 4:40And it was some weird ass thing Stevie Wonder wanted to do.
- 4:44And but it was funny. Lionel Richie said we lost
- 4:47Waylon right at that time. Well, when when people, you
- 4:53know, when they believe it in something, they just stand their
- 4:57course. Call them crazy all you want,
- 5:00but at least they don't they're not wishy washy.
- 5:03You know, the worst thing you can do is have a leader that's
- 5:07wishy washy, Yes. No.
- 5:09OK, I'll go with you. So that's where I am right now
- 5:17on the whole damn points thing, that whole damn NASCAR points
- 5:22thing. Some of you are like a damn
- 5:25bunch of mob. You're you're a mob.
- 5:27You're like you're coming at me like and you're saying mean,
- 5:33mean stuff to me and I don't appreciate it.
- 5:37I see it out there. I see y'all getting cocky as
- 5:39hell. Some people calling me a clown,
- 5:43some people saying you don't understand.
- 5:46Us fans just don't like it. So let me just tell you this.
- 5:51I'm going to shove it right back up your ass.
- 5:54I like the point system, OK? So I'm going to be cocky just
- 5:58like you, and I'm going to stand my ground.
- 6:01And I'm like Waylon Jennings. I'm walking right the hell out
- 6:06of this conversation because I like the point system.
- 6:14You're not going to wear me down.
- 6:17I like the point system. I'm sure of myself.
- 6:21I'm a badass. I stand for what I believe in.
- 6:27NASCAR is a great sport. You all bitch 24/7.
- 6:33You're never happy. And that's what Kenny Schrader
- 6:37says. You're never going to please
- 6:39everybody. I don't mind debating with you,
- 6:45but I don't like you guys calling me names and I don't
- 6:49like you all being sarcastic with me, so I get the last
- 6:54laugh. I'm a badass.
- 6:58I'm going to stand for what I believe in.
- 7:00All right? I like the point system.
- 7:04Like I told you, though, I'll change those last races like
- 7:07I've always thought. I would like to see the
- 7:09championship end deciding, you know, three races.
- 7:13We go to Phoenix, we go to Miami Homestead, we go to Vegas.
- 7:20All right, everybody, that's that.
- 7:26Let's go to Luke and Mark, Texas, Waylon and Willie and the
- 7:31boys. All right, got another one on my
- 7:35mind. I was with Sunoco Racing and my
- 7:41friend Fred McConnell yesterday went down to Texas and drove
- 7:46these Rush race cars, had these Suzuki motors in the back and
- 7:50boy, they hauled ass. They had paddle shifters, they
- 7:58were awesome. And boy, my shoulders hurt
- 8:01today. I got these two torn tenants
- 8:04over here on this one shoulder and I was getting back.
- 8:09We'd run 30 minutes straight. You talk about a workout.
- 8:12Shit, I'm ready to get into my dirt car now, man, that thing, I
- 8:18couldn't, you know, late in my NASCAR career, I'd get about lap
- 8:22250 of a 300 lap race and when I turn right, my right shoulder
- 8:27started hurting right here. It's like I've wore my shoulder
- 8:31slam out. So anyway, I got down to like a
- 8:36minute 1935 some of the kids run like in I think the fastest bad
- 8:42ass sumbitch there was Blair. He ran like, you know, 117 five.
- 8:47These kids, they're good, they're young and they're good.
- 8:53It I want to tell you something that I witnessed here.
- 8:57I am 61. These guys are under, you know,
- 8:59they were 25 maximum, maximum 28 years old boy, this new group,
- 9:09they are really into the digital era to the maximum peak sitting
- 9:14there and and they say, come on, let's go study the course.
- 9:16Let's go in the room. And so we're sitting there and
- 9:18he's got the computer up there, the layout of the track
- 9:21digitally, though, like, you know, showing where you're at,
- 9:24but but it's not really showing the real racetrack.
- 9:26It's just showing the outlet. So I'm like, OK, what corner is
- 9:29this? You know, they spent a damn hour
- 9:33and they had not made it a halfway around the racetrack.
- 9:35And these kids, there's like five of them.
- 9:37They're like, OK, what are you doing here?
- 9:39Me. I'm like, hey, what gear are you
- 9:40in in that corner? What gear are you?
- 9:43What gear are you getting? A six?
- 9:44No, I'm staying in fifth, OK, I'm talking about what gear
- 9:47you're in. You know, I know the angle of
- 9:50the dangle. I know you got to be here to get
- 9:51there. You know, I get all that grew up
- 9:53racing my whole life. But these kids are
- 9:57perfectionist. They in NASCAR, these kids now
- 10:03they run these Sims, which is fine.
- 10:05I like Sims because it's real time.
- 10:08I'm not saying it, I'm not saying it's like real.
- 10:11Like a SIM probably doesn't relate to a lot of people.
- 10:15If you've never been to a racetrack, you get on a SIM.
- 10:17It's it's, it's like it's like you're really in the race car.
- 10:21So let's say you to a racetrack you never been to you get in a
- 10:25SIM and all of a sudden you run it for an hour or so.
- 10:29Then when you get to that racetrack in real, you know
- 10:32where everything's at. But these kids nowadays, it's
- 10:37official. They've passed me up.
- 10:41I'm old school. They talk to each other about
- 10:45this and that, this, this and that.
- 10:47And I'm like, I was about to lose my mind.
- 10:51So finally he came up. He goes, OK, let's go to my in
- 10:53car camera. I'm like, yes, that's what I
- 10:57want to see. I want to see you drive the
- 10:59racetrack from from your helmet, you know, so I thought I'd add
- 11:04that in there. I know, you know, I hear about
- 11:08Kyle Larson and Martin. They say Martin trucks can break
- 11:12things down in detail. Kyle Larson's like, I don't know
- 11:15what I'm doing. True, true story.
- 11:19So you got some drivers that are good, what they call data
- 11:22drivers. You got some drivers, NASCAR
- 11:25will hire some drivers like David Reagan.
- 11:28David Reagan's a SIM driver and he tells that Ford team, here's
- 11:32what this you know, here's this, we tried this setup in their
- 11:35simulator and David Reagan does all that.
- 11:39But you got some drivers like Kyle Larson, they'll go, you
- 11:42know, Chevrolet go hey, Kyle, you know what about it?
- 11:45And Kyle Larson's like, I, I don't know, I just do it, you
- 11:47know, and I'm like, Kyle's got a God's gift.
- 11:50But I just want to say that these these new kids, man, they
- 11:55just, they're digitally enhanced and they're just sorry the real
- 12:02Herman came out. That's where I would use that
- 12:03word. So yesterday made me realize I'm
- 12:0961 years old. I'll go run my dirt car.
- 12:14Have a great Thursday, everybody.
