Transcript
- 0:00laced up. Let's go! It's time for Banter with
- 0:04the Boys. Welcome back to Banter with the Boys.
- 0:16Gridiron updates. Our week 5 tent talk. That
- 0:19was my tent. Oh, nice. That was a tent. I thought
- 0:24it was a really crappy skull. And I was like,
- 0:26what is going on? But no, it's a tent. Nice.
- 0:29I like it. Thank you. Official. Thanks for bringing
- 0:32that to Tent Talk. Well, thanks for having me.
- 0:34So we'll turn his mic off for the rest of the
- 0:36time. He's contributed. Jake, thanks for being
- 0:38here again. Thanks for having me. A Ravens fan.
- 0:41We're lucky to have you. Or unlucky. Well, maybe
- 0:44just this week. I don't know. Anyway, let's just
- 0:47get right into injuries here. Tyreek Hill, I
- 0:49mean, probably the biggest one, right? If you
- 0:50saw it, it was gruesome. Multiple torn ligaments
- 0:53with a dislocated knee. He's probably done for
- 0:55the season. Gross. Not for his career after that.
- 0:58It's a very long road from that particular injury.
- 1:01So we'll see and hope for the best for him. Malik
- 1:07Neighbors also went down with a torn ACL. Done
- 1:10for the season. Ouch. Very similar to the whole
- 1:14Odell Beckham Jr. saga. Did you see his tweet?
- 1:19Who? OBJ. Uh -uh. Asking the NFL to get rid of
- 1:25the field turf. Bring back the natural grass.
- 1:28I was just looking up to see where the Dolphins
- 1:31played, but they played at home and that's on
- 1:32grass. I'm going to bring Tyreek's injury back
- 1:37up here in the news portion because I got a question
- 1:40about that. Lamar, if you were listening to our...
- 1:46Recap episode. We talked about Lamar Jackson
- 1:48going down with a hamstring injury. With a hammy.
- 1:51Who's technically listed as day -to -day, but
- 1:54Jake's telling us he could miss two to three.
- 1:56Two to three weeks. Ouch. And hammies are lingering.
- 2:00Yes, they are. Especially with that skill set.
- 2:03And being one in three right now, they've got...
- 2:06two games before they hit their bye week in week
- 2:09seven. You think just wait? Yeah, I think just
- 2:11wait and just take worst -case scenario. They
- 2:14go into the bye week or come out of the bye week
- 2:16one and five. So you're predicting owls across
- 2:20the board, then? Yep, spoilers on the picks.
- 2:23No, I'm just being realistic here. I'm predicting
- 2:29owls. Even if they come out one and five, they
- 2:33still have 12 games. or no they have 11 games
- 2:36and they need to win they probably just need
- 2:39to win nine ten yeah ten and seven yeah go ten
- 2:43and seven the rest of the way and probably still
- 2:47make the playoffs there's a chance Then it's
- 2:49a new season. Does that win the division there,
- 2:5210 -7? Maybe. I think it depends on how this
- 2:58dealer's offense continues to evolve and progress
- 3:01over the course of the year. Dang, maybe 10 -7
- 3:04is enough to win the AFC North. That's interesting.
- 3:07I definitely want to say no. That's just my gut
- 3:10for the AFC North in general. 10 -7 is never
- 3:12enough. Well, the North is notorious for beating
- 3:15each other up. Yes. And unfortunately, the Bengals
- 3:18aren't going to be. Well, maybe the Bengals are
- 3:20going to get more competitive as the year goes
- 3:22on. It's not looking good. Not looking good at
- 3:24all. Not looking good. Let's see. Jane Daniels,
- 3:26Commander's quarterback, looking to play this
- 3:28week, allegedly. He could make his triumphant
- 3:31return. What was his injury again? It was a knee.
- 3:36Trey Benson, Arizona running back. He is now
- 3:39to IR done for four weeks. They just keep dropping
- 3:44in Arizona. I feel bad for all of the James Conner
- 3:48fantasy football owners who picked up Trey or
- 3:52traded for Trey. In my league, somebody gave
- 3:55up next year's first -round pick for Trey. Really?
- 3:58Oh, that's really aggressive in the first place.
- 4:01No, no, no. Even if he's healthy the rest of
- 4:05the year. Yeah. Let's see. Bucky Irving, Tampa
- 4:07Bay running back. Seems to be day -to -day right
- 4:09now with a foot -slash -ankle injury. Couldn't
- 4:12find anything more on that at the moment. He's
- 4:14in a boot. Boot. Brian O 'Neal. Okay, these are
- 4:18just a couple Viking ones. These are the ones
- 4:20that matter. You can bring some in here. Yeah,
- 4:23these are the ones that really matter. Brian
- 4:25O 'Neal, obviously right tackle for the Vikes.
- 4:27He's week to week. Probably more likely to see
- 4:29him back after the bye, which sucks. Ryan Kelly,
- 4:33Viking Center, second concussion this season.
- 4:36I mean, that's just who knows at that point,
- 4:38right, when you get another one. J .J. McCarthy
- 4:41update. The sprained ankle is doing better, but
- 4:44definitely not 100%, so it sounds like the Vikings
- 4:46will not. Be rushing him back. So after bye,
- 4:50potentially, for J .J. McCarthy. That makes sense.
- 4:53But I guess, really, you start thinking how long.
- 4:58How much additional time do you give them after
- 4:59the bye? Do you bring them back right away? I
- 5:01think so. It depends on where's the ankle at.
- 5:04You know what I mean? Where's it actually at,
- 5:06those sprained ankles? That's another lingering
- 5:08one. I don't think it's a high ankle sprain because
- 5:11those definitely linger a lot longer, but everything
- 5:13I found was just sprained ankles. But I don't
- 5:16know. Especially with the Vikings taking the
- 5:18L this last week, it's really simmered down.
- 5:20Like, nope, Carson Wentz is our quarterback of
- 5:23the future. It's kind of simmered that whole
- 5:25conversation down. Now everyone's more of, But,
- 5:27like, I think J .J. needs to come back. God,
- 5:29dude. I'm just saying how the world works, Tyler.
- 5:32It's true. Take a step back. That's right. I
- 5:36mean, if they all had podcasts, they would tell
- 5:38us. For sure. Yeah, they would. The internet
- 5:41is very fickle. They are. Very wind -changing.
- 5:44I mean, it's with every team, right? The fans
- 5:46are just so... You know what I mean? Like, oh,
- 5:49my God. Anyway. I remember we wanted to start
- 5:51a Joe Webb in the playoffs. Yeah. Wow. I had
- 5:55really high hopes, too, but I was young and dumb
- 5:57for that Joe Webb game, by the way. All right,
- 6:00all right, all right. News, news, news. This
- 6:02really isn't news, but Robert makes his return
- 6:05to our show. Robert Sala and Liam Cohen exchanged
- 6:10some words after the game. I guess Robert was
- 6:13just saying something along the lines of, you
- 6:15guys are doing a good job legally stealing signs,
- 6:17and it was just this whole thing, and now he
- 6:19kind of came out today and was like, well. I
- 6:21shouldn't have said that. Like, I'm just mad,
- 6:24you know. So, I don't know. Did you guys see
- 6:27anything more on that? Did you even see that?
- 6:29No, I did not see anything. It was a really brief
- 6:30exchange at, like, midfield, but it wasn't anything
- 6:32crazy. I like the competitiveness. Yeah. If you're
- 6:36not cheating, you're not trying, right? Exactly.
- 6:38Amen. Yeah. There it is. Go Astros. There it
- 6:40is. Wow. Sorry, I'm about five seconds behind.
- 6:45Let's see. I don't know why I put this in here.
- 6:48I just find this interesting, and now it makes
- 6:49me want to do, like, a little spin -off random
- 6:51show. Or not show, just a random episode this
- 6:54winter. Oh, yeah. About stadiums and funding
- 6:57and all that. But anyway, Bears looking for $855
- 6:59million in public funding for their new stadium
- 7:01in the suburbs. That would, quote, host Super
- 7:04Bowls and Final Fours, which, I mean. let's be
- 7:06real, suburb of Chicago, they probably would
- 7:08get bids for all sorts of things. So you could
- 7:11argue there. My problem with stuff like that
- 7:14is I feel like they always inflate the numbers
- 7:16of how much money it's actually going to bring
- 7:17in. You know, oh, it's going to create all this
- 7:19new revenue, and it never is the case for stadiums.
- 7:22So I'm just, that's where I want to do a little
- 7:25tidbit episode and go off on a tangent real quick.
- 7:28We'll dig deep into it one night. Yeah, anyway,
- 7:30so anyway, I just want to throw that in there.
- 7:32I think the bring Super Bowl, well, it's going
- 7:34to. They'll get one Super Bowl. At least. I mean,
- 7:37it's Chicago. Right. Well, they'll do a dome
- 7:39probably. So I've got, I mean, it's Chicago.
- 7:45Why? You're in the north. Why are you doing a
- 7:50dome? Oh, because corporate money is king. taking
- 7:55away part of the football experience. No, I totally
- 7:59agree with you, but I'm also a realist of understanding
- 8:02that corporate money carries a lot of weight
- 8:04in those scenarios. And I've been to a Chicago
- 8:06game before. I love going down to that park,
- 8:08but getting in and out of there is horrible.
- 8:11So I definitely think they're going to end up
- 8:13moving because what they built inside of the
- 8:15old Memorial Stadium was a spaceship. So actually,
- 8:19if they do move, they'll rip that down and have
- 8:21still at least the outside and still have a park.
- 8:24there or some kind of field is what I heard the
- 8:26plans was. Oh, they would put a field there?
- 8:28Yeah, I heard that they would do high school
- 8:31or college. That would be really cool. And then
- 8:33do concert events there too, obviously. That
- 8:36would be cool. I can definitely see it's time
- 8:39to move out of that particular area of Chicago.
- 8:42I do like downtown stadiums in general, but it's
- 8:45just tough to get in and out of. Well, then I'll
- 8:47have to build a new one where it is now. I just
- 8:50don't see it. The logistics get weird. We did
- 8:52it here. Minnesota, but that was weird because
- 8:54you're playing at TCF Bank Stadium for three
- 8:56years. But it's also not wrapped around a historical
- 8:59site, too. That's the thing. The challenge is
- 9:02the construction itself. We went deep there in
- 9:06stadiums. I'm telling you, I could do a whole
- 9:08episode. Tell me this summer. One other rant.
- 9:12You're a football organization. You're your own
- 9:15business. Why are you not building your own stadium
- 9:17like Jerry Jones? That's a great question. There
- 9:21it is. Part of the show. Answer that. We're writing
- 9:24the episode as we go. There we go. Here we go.
- 9:26That'll be the title. Let's see. Comment on that,
- 9:30please. Let us know your thoughts on stadium
- 9:32funding and stuff. I'm very, very curious about
- 9:34that. Please let me know. Anyway, I'm nerding
- 9:38out right now. All right. Bad Bunny is a Super
- 9:41Bowl halftime show. Sorry, Taylor Swift. I would
- 9:46have preferred Taylor Swift. Did you think she
- 9:48was a lock for halftime show? All of the rumors
- 9:50that I was like, oh, Taylor Swift. I'm like,
- 9:52no, it's not going to be Taylor Swift. I would
- 9:54prefer Taylor Swift over Bad Bunny, but it'll
- 9:57be good. It'll be great. Are you a big Bunny
- 10:00fan? There's a couple songs in the play. Really?
- 10:03Okay. All right. Xavier Howard, Indianapolis
- 10:06DB, is set to retire. Set to retire after yesterday.
- 10:12I was just reading an article this morning about
- 10:15how teams have been picking on him lately. He's
- 10:17just not quite keeping up to start the season.
- 10:21Everybody's thinking that he'd be able to work
- 10:24through it this season and get back up. Now he
- 10:27decided it's time. There's that. Best of luck
- 10:32to you in your ventures. The contract would probably
- 10:37mess with that if B -Flow I think he's still
- 10:41got it. Come to the Vikings for a little bit.
- 10:44They used to be together. See if he can fix them.
- 10:48I wonder how that would work with the contract.
- 10:51He's done, dude. He's done. Do you want the Vikings
- 10:57trading draft capital for him? No. Not if he's
- 11:00considering retirement. So there's a weird A
- 11:05.J. Brown post, social post, after the game that
- 11:09he ended up saying he was just frustrated because
- 11:12he wanted the ball. He said, quote, I want the
- 11:15pressure. I put it on myself. I work hard for
- 11:17it, which I can respect that. That's why he's
- 11:20working hard because he wants to be in those
- 11:22moments. He wants that situation. But the quote
- 11:24was, actually, it was a Bible verse, Mark 6,
- 11:2711. If you're not welcome to not listen to, quietly
- 11:30withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders
- 11:33and be on your way. What else does he want? He's
- 11:384 -0. He doesn't want the Super Bowl. How do
- 11:41you not read that as cryptic, though? You know
- 11:43what I mean? For sure. You just got it? That's
- 11:46a diva play if I heard one. But then he came
- 11:49out and said it's not and blah, blah, blah. Well,
- 11:51yeah, because his PR person was just blowing
- 11:53up his phone. He's like, yo, come on. Delete
- 11:56that. You got to delete that. I already have
- 11:59an apology written up for you. Post that. Yeah,
- 12:01right. They probably do. No, for sure they do.
- 12:04Come on, meow. Come on, meow. Let's see. Jerry
- 12:08Jones, he came out and said that he paid Dak
- 12:11and not Micah because Dak is indispensable. Agreed.
- 12:15So there it is, straight from the horse's mouth.
- 12:19He said something along the lines, too, it's
- 12:21not personal, but obviously everybody's going
- 12:23to view that as personal. But, well, you look
- 12:27like your thinker is thinking. Yeah, my thinker
- 12:29is thinking. And, yeah, Dak is, what, irreplaceable.
- 12:34Or whatever. Indispensable. Indispensable, because
- 12:37if you look... He's a starting quarterback in
- 12:40the NFL. Then there's not a lot of those quality
- 12:42ones, so yeah. Index, arguably a top 15. Yeah.
- 12:46I mean, if Joel Flacco at 43 could still find
- 12:48a job in the NFL, that's how desperate the NFL
- 12:52is for someone that is capable of running that
- 12:54position. That's a great point. Fair enough.
- 12:58I mean, Micah Parsons, with the tie, I think
- 13:01that's an L for them. You know, like the Cowboys
- 13:04almost kind of won that deal. So, real quick,
- 13:07I just have two quick questions, then we actually
- 13:09got to end this. Unless you can make your fantasy
- 13:12minute uber quick, because I really want to ask
- 13:15you guys these questions. Do you like games ending
- 13:18in a tie in the NFL? Cowboys -Packers ended in
- 13:21a tie. Yes, I do. How do you feel about that?
- 13:23Well, I almost like the first rule. If the first
- 13:26team scores a touchdown, then it's over. Now
- 13:28both teams get possession. Which I personally
- 13:31like. I like both teams getting an opportunity
- 13:33to possess the ball and not the luck of the coin.
- 13:36But then you just make the argument, well, if
- 13:38the defense stands up and plays, then you get
- 13:40the ball back anyway. I don't know. Is there
- 13:44ever going to be a right way to finish it? I
- 13:46don't think there is. Maybe you extend the duration
- 13:49of overtime. So like 4 o 'clock in the morning?
- 13:52No, just like to 15 minutes instead of 10. You
- 13:57could theoretically, as an offensive team, run
- 14:00the whole clock, kick a field goal, and leave
- 14:03no time for your opponent to come back at all
- 14:07and try and get anything. Which kind of happened.
- 14:10Yeah. Interesting. I don't mind that it ended
- 14:15in a tie. As a viewer watching football, it was
- 14:18an anticlimactic ending because you're kicking
- 14:21a field goal as time expires, and that's the
- 14:23game. Well, the most exciting part was Jordan
- 14:25loved snapping the ball with six seconds left.
- 14:28I was so frustrated with the Green Bay Packers.
- 14:34I don't understand if they knew that they were
- 14:36running the ball on second down. They should
- 14:41have had two plays called because they were out
- 14:42of timeouts. So you run the ball and then quickly
- 14:45run your second play. Like they huddle scrambled
- 14:49to get that next playoff and almost ran out of
- 14:53time. Yeah. All right. So my next question real
- 14:55quick. You only looked at the Tyreek Hill injury
- 14:58once, right? And you were good. Yep. Okay. How
- 15:02many times did you watch it? Zero. Damn it. Well,
- 15:05this doesn't work then. I watched it a lot. Because
- 15:08the comments kept saying the gator roll is what
- 15:11caused the injury. So when you come up and you
- 15:14tackle, you gator roll them to the ground. Just
- 15:17take their legs out. You know what I mean? But
- 15:19there's usually not injuries like that. That
- 15:21doesn't usually happen. So my thought was when
- 15:23I was watching it, I was like, I don't think
- 15:25the gator roll caused that. You can see his leg.
- 15:27It looked like it was already kind of like. mid
- 15:30-snap on the sideline, and he was gator -rolling
- 15:32the back leg, which was the one that didn't break.
- 15:35So I was like, no, the gator -roll did not cause
- 15:37that injury. I mean, I can get my puke bucket
- 15:41ready and just watch it over and over again and
- 15:43message back with you later. I'm just curious
- 15:46what you guys think. I saw the news, at least
- 15:51the update, where Tyreek was getting carted off,
- 15:53and I saw the aircast, and instantly I was just
- 15:55like, nah, I don't need to see this more than
- 15:57once. Yeah, you already know it's bad. You already
- 15:58know it's bad. All right, uber quick, minute
- 16:01fantasy, go. What do you got? Oh, I mean, there's
- 16:04a ton of pickups. Who are you replacing for Trey
- 16:06Benson? Trey Benson. There's a rookie down there.
- 16:09I forgot what his name is. Otherwise, big injuries.
- 16:15We're going to call him rookie. I mean, San Francisco,
- 16:17pretty much everyone's hurt. If you're not an
- 16:19owner of Marvis and Harrison Jr., do you try
- 16:21and trade low right now? Or buy low on them?
- 16:27Because, I mean, he had an okay game, but he
- 16:29essentially created two turnovers for Arizona.
- 16:33True. His problem is drops right now, you know,
- 16:36for statistics and fantasy -wise. Lamar hurt.
- 16:40I mean, there's just a lot of injuries, especially
- 16:42on the quarterback side. Also, you're looking
- 16:44at Zay Flowers, Bateman. Henry should get a little
- 16:48bit of a pickup on that aspect. You'd think,
- 16:50but he's going to see eight - and nine -man fronts
- 16:52now because you know they're going to run the
- 16:54ball. Yeah. Yeah, you know they're not going
- 16:56to trust Cooper Rush unless he's on the Cowboys
- 16:59playing the Vikings. Other than that, for fantasy,
- 17:02I mean, Mbuka's still rookie of the year. We
- 17:04talked to him in fantasy. Puka blew up. There's
- 17:09just a ton of injuries, so there's going to be
- 17:10a lot of unknown guys in the next week or two
- 17:13that you're going to start. You're going to see
- 17:15these little one guy blow up and everyone's going
- 17:18to spend a ton of money on them scenarios coming
- 17:20up right now. So manage your money. Team management
- 17:22right now is key for fantasy football, especially
- 17:24if you're a team with a lot of injuries. And
- 17:26we're entering bye weeks. Yeah, and try to get
- 17:28creative with some, you know, like you say, buying
- 17:31low on Harrison and stuff like that. So if he
- 17:33did stack in a certain position, this is the
- 17:36time to use that capital to try to go fill a
- 17:38position that you've lost on neighbors or something
- 17:41like that. So that's my fantasy minute. Boom.
- 17:44Boom. Love it. Love it. Yeah, we got to end it,
- 17:48gentlemen. Excuse me. Wow. Thanks for being here
- 17:51this week, both of you, especially for this tent
- 17:54talk episode. Yeah. Oh, they did it at the same
- 17:59time. I did not expect that. That's got to be
- 18:01the thumbnail. All right. Don't forget to like,
