Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Alrighty, well the big game four a m. Tomorrow the
- 0:04Speaker 1: soccer rus are playing and we've got a former soccer
- 0:07Speaker 1: U Archie Thompson live on our Hello maids.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hey guys, how are we?
- 0:12Speaker 1: We are great? So four am? Who are we playing?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Sean?
- 0:15Speaker 3: We're playing Egypt.
- 0:17Speaker 2: It could be a tough one.
- 0:18Speaker 1: What do you reckon, Archie? Can we do it well?
- 0:21Speaker 2: I think so, because there's a couple of key players
- 0:23Speaker 2: that's injured at the moment. Possibly I think Mostsella is
- 0:27Speaker 2: the big name that is circling around that he might
- 0:30Speaker 2: not be able to pull up okay for this game,
- 0:32Speaker 2: which is no good for him, no good for Egypt,
- 0:34Speaker 2: but great for us because he's absolutely superstar. So that's
- 0:38Speaker 2: probably one player that's maybe not playing. But then I
- 0:41Speaker 2: heard he was training with the squad. But I know
- 0:44Speaker 2: I've done hanstrings before. It'd be a miraculous recovery. If
- 0:48Speaker 2: you can turn that around in a week's time, we'll see.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I know Marcella is a good player. Like my boys
- 0:53Speaker 3: are soccer mad and they've both got their Marcella jerseys on.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I was like, I can't keep up. First it was
- 0:59Speaker 3: messy that it was Ronaldo and then it's bape all
- 1:03Speaker 3: these last games that I don't know about. But Archie,
- 1:06Speaker 3: you obviously hold an all time goal scoring record in
- 1:10Speaker 3: an international match, which is pretty impressive.
- 1:12Speaker 2: So I want to.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Ask, what did you make of the zero goal game
- 1:16Speaker 3: that Australia played against Paraguay, Like, does that mean it's
- 1:19Speaker 3: a good game or they're just not Are they great
- 1:22Speaker 3: on the defense or what.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Do you make of that?
- 1:25Speaker 2: Well, why don't you tell your kids about my story
- 1:28Speaker 2: and scoring thirteen goals in one game and then maybe
- 1:31Speaker 2: they can slip at Thompson on the back of their shoes.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I will say Paraguay were very very good defensively, h
- 1:40Speaker 2: And we saw with their game against Germany the other
- 1:44Speaker 2: morning where German German Germany were looking to go through
- 1:49Speaker 2: that everyone expected them to go through. They're like, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 2: they're huge in world football and especially for World Cups.
- 1:55Speaker 2: But Paraguay defended unbelievable. They got through on penalties which
- 1:59Speaker 2: no one saw. So you can actually say that against
- 2:03Speaker 2: us they were difficult to break down. But we're both
- 2:07Speaker 2: and this is this is a funny thing about this
- 2:09Speaker 2: World Cup and finishing third and having forty eight teams
- 2:12Speaker 2: instead of the thirty two is that there can be
- 2:14Speaker 2: some games that lead into the knockout stage. Is that
- 2:18Speaker 2: both teams don't necessarily need to win, they just need
- 2:21Speaker 2: a draw to getting through. So maybe that needs to
- 2:25Speaker 2: be changed a little bit, because then sometimes I feel
- 2:28Speaker 2: the matches seem a little bit you know, there's where
- 2:31Speaker 2: it used to be the old goal difference, where it
- 2:33Speaker 2: was a bit more intensity. Everyone wanted to win, and
- 2:36Speaker 2: this one was like, okay, we're happy to get a
- 2:38Speaker 2: drawway through. And that's why I guess when the soccer
- 2:41Speaker 2: is right, when we played that game, everyone was like, yeah, okay,
- 2:46Speaker 2: we're through instead of like oh yeah we were yeah yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 2: It was that kind of vibe.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Actually that game earlier this week it was Germany and Paraguay.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I went into the penalty shootout. They're saying it was
- 2:57Speaker 3: the greatest upset in fee for World Cup history.
- 3:00Speaker 2: What do you reckon of that? Well, look, it's definitely
- 3:03Speaker 2: right up there. But then I would say that this
- 3:05Speaker 2: German side is probably not lived up to the potential
- 3:08Speaker 2: and it probably wasn't one of their stronger ones. And
- 3:10Speaker 2: I know a lot of managers, a lot of people
- 3:13Speaker 2: have been critical of their manager and not being able
- 3:16Speaker 2: to get the best out of still a very good
- 3:18Speaker 2: side and they still had their chances. But yeah, you'd
- 3:21Speaker 2: have to say it this early on in this World Cup,
- 3:25Speaker 2: and let's be honest, guys, i's feel it's will cuts
- 3:27Speaker 2: been going on for month, but it's still the greatest
- 3:31Speaker 2: upset for sure.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So okay, so far, well before we let you go, mate,
- 3:36Speaker 1: a prediction. Have we got a prediction for the game
- 3:38Speaker 1: tomorrow morning at four am?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yes, Look, I think we're going to do it. I'm
- 3:44Speaker 2: hoping that it's done in the ninety so the heart
- 3:47Speaker 2: can just ease off a little bit and look forward
- 3:50Speaker 2: to the round of sixteen. But I'm quietly confident we've
- 3:54Speaker 2: got enough quality in this squad to be able to
- 3:56Speaker 2: do something.
- 3:57Speaker 1: What one now or two nell or one two one?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Like you've got to score prediction.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Oh, I'll be happy, alright, So I'll be happy. I'll
- 4:06Speaker 2: be happy, even though I don't wanted to go penalties
- 4:09Speaker 2: witted in penalties, It doesn't matter as long as we
- 4:11Speaker 2: get through.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Good on you, mate. Archie Thompson. Oh, by the way,
- 4:14Speaker 1: he's teamed up with Samsung for the Galaxy xx two
- 4:18Speaker 1: X Ultraphone. The camera is so good. It can be
- 4:21Speaker 1: used as a video ref tool. Oh wow for soccer games.
- 4:25Speaker 1: So Archie mate, thank you for that. Will hold you
- 4:27Speaker 1: to that prediction tomorrow morning.
- 4:28Speaker 2: All right, okay, thanks guys, Thanks Archie.
