- 0:00SPEAKER_03: Uh this is Americ Studios Podcast on this week's show.
- 0:05SPEAKER_03: When I first got offered to do my first club night in New York City, they offered me 300 bucks.
- 0:11SPEAKER_03: Which is great because I was back.
- 0:13SPEAKER_03: Back then, I would have done it for free.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: That's how excited and how in love it was the music, bro.
- 0:21SPEAKER_03: It wasn't the craft of me being a DJ, it was just the music.
- 0:25SPEAKER_03: I was in love with the music.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: And three, two, one.
- 0:28SPEAKER_03: I'm DJ Enough.
- 0:30SPEAKER_03: I'm DJ Camelo.
- 0:31SPEAKER_05: I'm DJ Cast One.
- 0:33SPEAKER_05: And I'm Len Books, a K-L Boog.
- 0:36SPEAKER_05: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, everyone worldwide, this is the Heavy Hitter DJ's podcast.
- 0:45SPEAKER_05: What up, y'all?
- 0:46SPEAKER_05: It's the Heavy Hitters invading the podcast world.
- 0:49SPEAKER_05: I go by the name of Len Boogs.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: I got my brothers with me today.
- 0:52SPEAKER_05: It's a simple hello, it's a simple introduction of who the biggest DJ conglomerate is and what do we do around the globe.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: I got my family with me, first off, and of course, you know what I mean, our fearless leader, our presidente DJ Noble.
- 1:07SPEAKER_05: Who that be?
- 1:08SPEAKER_05: Who that be?
- 1:09SPEAKER_05: Who that be?
- 1:09SPEAKER_05: That'd be me.
- 1:10SPEAKER_05: Heavy hit this baby.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Let's do this.
- 1:12SPEAKER_05: Yes, sir.
- 1:13SPEAKER_05: And I also got my brother out of Queens, the International Club King.
- 1:19SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 1:19SPEAKER_05: I DJ nine days a week and I never sleep.
- 1:22SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: One of the best businessmen and one of the best people we have in our crew.
- 1:27SPEAKER_05: The International Club can't DJ Camilo.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: There we go.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: I like that intro, El Boogs.
- 1:35SPEAKER_05: They call him Camelito around the way, though.
- 1:38SPEAKER_05: And now my brother from another mother, you know what I mean?
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: We've been doing this for 20 plus.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: I always say this guy has the best ear when it comes to music.
- 1:46SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 1:46SPEAKER_05: The best ear.
- 1:47SPEAKER_05: That's why he never put him down back in the day.
- 1:49SPEAKER_05: Because he used to tell him what songs was whack and all that.
- 1:51SPEAKER_05: But uh my brother Cass Swan represented the Boogie Down Bronx.
- 1:54SPEAKER_05: And uh he is hip hop.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: The only thing he's missing is breakdancing, but he got the graph, he got the DJing and all that.
- 2:01SPEAKER_05: Cass Swan, not the Boogie Down Bronx, but I'm on my way to the breakdancing, bro.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: I'm practicing.
- 2:07SPEAKER_04: I'm practicing.
- 2:08SPEAKER_05: You understand?
- 2:10SPEAKER_05: Easy, easy.
- 2:12SPEAKER_05: Right, so anybody wondering what the hell are we doing here?
- 2:16SPEAKER_05: We we we're taking an opportunity, we're taking a chance here to introduce the world to what the heavy hitter is, the movement, the influence, the conglomerate, et cetera, et cetera.
- 2:25SPEAKER_05: So yo, but it's our time, baby.
- 2:27SPEAKER_05: It's our time.
- 2:28SPEAKER_05: It's our time.
- 2:29SPEAKER_05: That's it.
- 2:29SPEAKER_05: And and and we are people who uh we've done the clubs, we've done the radios, we've done the TVs, we've done the productions, we we've put out the records, and now is our time to say what's up to you, and along the way, introduce you to our family, which is the heavy hitters, and on top of that, show you why we are heavy hitters.
- 2:45SPEAKER_05: Why Cass One stands on his own, enough, Camillo, myself, etc.
- 2:49SPEAKER_05: But enough for anybody who's never even tuned into us, what the hell was the reason of this heavy hitter thing?
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's a long story.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: We got time.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: No, no, give me the cliff notes, puppy.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: All right, here we go.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: I always felt like I wanted to have my own DJ collective.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: Rest in peace, DJ Threat.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: It was his idea.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: He kind of was like, you know what?
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: If you can't be accepted with this bunch of guys, maybe don't they're not rocking with you for whatever reason.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: Why don't you create your own thing?
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Now, at the time we're doing this, I started to look into the into the city.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: I looked at some of the the biggest parties in the city, and I was like, yo, look at these, look at these parties, man.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: They're being controlled by my boys.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: And I'm when I see my boys, I'm like, look at Boogs, look at Cass, Precise, Lobal, Camillo, myself.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: And I was just like, yo, that's the collective right there.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: Because when I was doing Jimmy's Bronx Cafe Cafe in the Bronx on Fridays and Saturdays, me threat, precise and lobo, right?
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Now I met Camillo years before that when he was doing Casablanca in Queens.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: But then it was Boogs and Cass One who helped elevate me and the movement.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: And I'll give you a perfect example.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: So for many years, I was always thinking I was helping Boogs, I was helping Cass.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: And maybe I was, but in reality, you guys were helping me because the shift changed.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: When I grew up, you know, with a pair of turntables and a microphone in 1980, whatever it was, Puerto Ricans ran the gamut.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: We were the only locked in the game running the game.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: You guys were here, but you guys weren't getting notarized for any of that yet.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: So I almost felt like I was some of the blueprint behind that.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: Because I gave I gave uh you Dominican brothers a shot on regular American terrestrial radio, where honestly it wasn't really it was unheard of at the time.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there was Latinos on the radio.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: You had your Andy Martinez's, you had your big dentist's, but they weren't behind the turntables, they were behind the mic.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: And I thought that by putting a dope collective of DJs like yourselves, I think we were the future.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: And you guys actually were because yo, bro, I grew up listening to Salsa, Merengue, and that's it, right?
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: And then you guys told me about Chata and all the other realms of what was being hot, and then Dembo came and then reggaeton came and all that.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: Like Kamala was the one who would be like, yo, enough.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: I think I want to play some reggaetong on hot 97.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: I was like, yo, go for it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: First record, ta, ta, ta, right?
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: Don't you see now?
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: So I'm bugging because I'm like, yo, this guy's crazy.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: He's taking a chance on regular terrestrial radio playing fucking reggae thong.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: But you know what?
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: To be honest with you, I'm not gonna lie, Camelo, I think that's what separated you from everybody at the at that time.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: It was definitely a time when it was definitely a good thing.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: A special light, Pop.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: You were a special light.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: It was a good time.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Yep, yep.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And you know, you gave me the you gave me the uh the energy to say go.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: After that, I was like, all right.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: And then after the first I played first two records, I was like, oh, I feel comfortable in this zone.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: And I bet you those phone lines lit up.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: I bet you they lit up.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they are, especially in 2005.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Bordies and and and Dominicans and Colombians are what the fuck is this?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: What station I'm listening to?
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:18SPEAKER_05: But you know, but I uh to add to that real quick, it's true because I was at 197 and I left to go do a reggaetong station, and these fucking artists, no matter who the fuck they were, straight out of PR.
- 6:29SPEAKER_05: Yo, but can you take us to see Camilo?
- 6:31SPEAKER_05: I'm like, they don't even play your shit over there, bro.
- 6:36SPEAKER_05: And it was mind-blowing.
- 6:37SPEAKER_05: And then obviously I use that shit to my advantage.
- 6:39SPEAKER_05: I started going, Bet, if you come to La Calle, I promise you I'll take you to Camill for Sunday night, 7 p.m., right?
- 6:46SPEAKER_05: And that's what it was.
- 6:47SPEAKER_05: But they gave you the show.
- 6:48SPEAKER_05: Lights out, baby.
- 6:49SPEAKER_05: Over there trying to battle you for the Spanish crowd.
- 6:51SPEAKER_05: I remember that.
- 6:52SPEAKER_05: 100%.
- 6:54SPEAKER_05: Every fucking artist that came to La Calle would always go, Yo, you know Camilo?
- 6:58SPEAKER_05: I'm like, Yeah, that's my brother.
- 6:59SPEAKER_05: Yo, is there any way?
- 7:01SPEAKER_05: And I had to lie and package the deal.
- 7:02SPEAKER_05: Like, bet, you're gonna go see Camilo because they would see you anyway.
- 7:05SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 7:06SPEAKER_05: But I do agree with enough.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: The other thing, I don't want to go off topic, but the other thing is that everybody just wanted to go, you know, these artists from Puerto Rico, they wanted to go to hot 97.
- 7:15SPEAKER_05: Because that's all like you can't blame them though, because that's what they knew when it came to hip hop urban anything America.
- 7:20unknown: Right.
- 7:21SPEAKER_05: That's the way of Daddy Yankee when you asked who his favorite artists are.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: This is not new talk.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: This has been going on for years, right?
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: I'll give you a perfect example.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: I used to work for black entertainment television, B E T, right?
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: And I remember all my black entertaining friends who were either artists, this jockeys, producers, or whatever.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: In the very beginning, when they launched the television platform, it was like, oh my god, we have our own thing.
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: Oh, amazing.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: 10, 15 years in, it's not amazing no more.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: Now they want to be like, uh, that's cool, but I want to go on regular TV.
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: Because they don't want to be put in the boxes, okay, they're only on because they're black.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: They only aren't because of this.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: They want to just at the end of the day, we everybody wants to be loved by the whole entire world.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: And that's what I'm saying.
- 8:11SPEAKER_05: No matter what, no matter what you're pushing out, no what else you're selling.
- 8:14SPEAKER_05: But then back to the original question, E, and then we you start the movement, like you said, not only we get taught and you teach us, we teach you, et cetera, et cetera.
- 8:22SPEAKER_05: But like, I mean, I was there, uh, proudly number four.
- 8:25SPEAKER_05: I'm just saying, in case anybody wants to know.
- 8:29SPEAKER_05: So, like, I never asked you questions like, yo, how the how what was the like because I knew one time we needed a mixtape person, we needed a club person, we needed a radio person, and and then honestly, I've never asked you a question, even when we throw the names at you.
- 8:43SPEAKER_05: What goes through your mind though?
- 8:44SPEAKER_05: Like when somebody goes blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, it should be a heavy hitter.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: Sometimes it feels good and sometimes it hurts.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: All right, so initially it's like, because you know, the a lot of weight goes on my shoulders.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: I gotta make this decision.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: And then I have a general in the crew named L.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: Boogs, who's the biggest fucking hater in the world.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: If we say a name that he don't know that he's not familiar with, he's like, Yo, who the fuck is that?
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: We don't want him down with us.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Oh my god, Boogs is gonna fucking chew this guy apart.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: And because in the very beginning, that's what you should do.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, almost like initiate all the heavy hitters just to see if it's like.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I gave that a fuck.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: I loved it and I hated it.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: I know he was protecting the crew.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I'm like, why he should be down with us?
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Like, who the fuck is this guy?
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, I also hated it because I'm like, damn, he don't know the story.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: You're giving him too much of a hard time.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: You put him through boot camp too hard, bro.
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: Because books, boogs, books goes by the by the by the mantra of you have to be at a certain level to be down with the squad, right?
- 9:50SPEAKER_04: But I mean, it's a hard mantra because not everybody's always at the same level, right?
- 9:54SPEAKER_04: You gotta try to like some people come in and they're like at the top of the top.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: Some people come in, they're working their way up to the top, and you see the potential in them.
- 10:01SPEAKER_04: So you'd be like, all right, cool, come into the collective and we'll help you.
- 10:04SPEAKER_04: How can we help you grow?
- 10:05SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 10:06SPEAKER_03: Of course you'd be like, nah, nah, we good, we good, fam.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: Yo, real talk.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: I had learned something.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: I had learned something from Angie Martinez, right?
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: My sister.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: What's that?
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: She was always like, you know what?
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: We have to kind of reconfigure, like, when we have these interns or these kids help us with our careers, instead of always, you know, making them help us and not navigate what they need, why don't we ask them, how can we help you?
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: How can we get you to where you are trying to get to?
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: And I thought that was so enlightening.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: I was like, wow, no one really took two seconds to be like, you know what?
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm here to help Angie Martinez, I'm here to help DJ Enough.
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: But then how does Angie Martinez and DJ Enough help them?
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: But that was always my mantra.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: It was always my mantra.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: Always.
- 10:59SPEAKER_05: And I admit, like, I've fallen back throughout the years, because you're right, Camillo.
- 11:03SPEAKER_05: Some of these people have no idea who you are.
- 11:04SPEAKER_05: I've never met you.
- 11:05SPEAKER_05: And Cass One years ago, he spoke up and said, Yo, some of you guys don't do this anymore.
- 11:10SPEAKER_05: And I do admit, but at the beginning, it was more for me of a sense of like, uh, we got a mixtape guy, we got a club guy, we got a girl who did.
- 11:17SPEAKER_05: So we didn't need seven of the same things, right?
- 11:20SPEAKER_05: And yes, you're right.
- 11:21SPEAKER_05: You have to, like, if you mention a name like E Fezy, he went through shit to be down with us.
- 11:26SPEAKER_05: You could never take that away from him.
- 11:27SPEAKER_05: If you mentioned E Fezy JCY waited 15 plus years, like that's what I that's why I've always been so adamant about it and so into it because I'm like, yo, Easy story real quick.
- 11:38SPEAKER_05: You were just here because you hung out with Christine.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: First of all, tell him where Efezy's from.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: E Feezy's from Kentucky.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: Originally.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: Originally from Kentucky.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: Met him outside the studios at 106 in Park on 57th Street when we were taping at the CBS building.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: He said he wanted to be happy to sold down.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: I never knew who he was.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, I've heard of him because I traveled to Kentucky for the Kentucky Derby, or I performed there with Biggie, whatever that kind of stuff.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: I wrote down on a piece of paper all the things that he needed to achieve to even for me to even think or consider him becoming a heavy hitter.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: Like three, four years later, he came back with the with the list, everything scratched out.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: Like I did that, I did that, I did that, I did that, and I'm like, damn, this guy.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Yo, in addition, in addition, he goes, he mails me.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: My daughter's born, right?
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: He mails me a doll to my P.O.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: box.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know where he got the P.O.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: box.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, DJ Feezy, this la la la la la la, you know, congratulations.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: I want to be a heavy hitter.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: I'm like, the fuck?
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: So all those little things, like he put the work in, bro.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: He put the work in, and it's like, so we bring up nobody worked hard to get down with the crew dinner.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, few, but Efeezy takes the case.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Hey, wait a minute.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: I take offense to that.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: Now hold on.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: Only thing that maybe you got him beat by is that you helped me carry my crates.
- 13:10SPEAKER_04: That's the only thing.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: Dang, no, that, no, that you babysit at EJ.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: You you drove, you drove the the you know, to some of the biggest parties when we had like trips upstate and that kind of shit.
- 13:26SPEAKER_05: I got fired because of DJ enough.
- 13:27SPEAKER_05: You hear me?
- 13:28SPEAKER_05: I got lost my whole job because of DJ enough.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you guys all got fired.
- 13:31SPEAKER_05: We all got fired because of DJ enough, bro.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: Remember, Books and Haitian Pack got fired at the same time.
- 13:36SPEAKER_05: At the same time.
- 13:37SPEAKER_05: And then the next day I go, enough.
- 13:39SPEAKER_05: So um, I got fired.
- 13:41SPEAKER_05: When do I start working for you?
- 13:43SPEAKER_05: But that's why I bring that up because some of the people now that come into the crew, too, like, they got this shit easy, bro.
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: They got it easy in the sense of like the checklist of why you should be down.
- 13:53SPEAKER_05: They have it easy.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: But I get it.
- 13:55SPEAKER_05: Times change back in the day was times change.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Yo, listen, when we were coming up as DJs, it took forever.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: It was like we had to buy vinyl, we had to go to the record store.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: You know, becoming a DJ now, bro, is buy a laptop, download a couple of songs for free, and you're a DJ all of a sudden.
- 14:14SPEAKER_04: We had to put that groundwork, like it was times have changed.
- 14:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know what, though?
- 14:19SPEAKER_04: I will I will shoot the younger generation some bail by saying that yes, it's easier to the the access point to becoming a DJ is easier, but you have that much more competition, right?
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: For every for every five or six people that we had that we were competitive with, now you're looking at like 50, 100.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: So it's that it takes that much more work to stand out now as a younger up and coming DJ than it did back when we were coming up, right?
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: Like back then you you you put in your work and it would pay off.
- 14:48SPEAKER_04: Now, bro, it's like non-stop, non-stop, right?
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: They gotta really grind.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: Like you really gotta grind.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: The grind might not be the same, but it's a grind, bro.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: I gotta agree with that.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: There is a big thing.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: It's a different type of grind.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: It's a it's exciting.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: I ain't gonna think about it.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: No, and then and some DJs are really, really innovative and dope and creative.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: And then some you see like they don't even know what they're doing.
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: No, 100%.
- 15:13SPEAKER_05: And then back to the now, let's let's let's go to like Cashwan and I were college roommates.
- 15:19SPEAKER_05: Caswan and I were in college, and then enough.
- 15:21SPEAKER_05: I'm already working for enough, and then uh all of a sudden, enough needs somebody to DJ.
- 15:25SPEAKER_05: I'm like, yo, Cashwan, bring your bag.
- 15:27SPEAKER_05: Yo, bring your bag.
- 15:28SPEAKER_05: Bring your bag, bring your record back, because tonight is what I'm gonna do.
- 15:33SPEAKER_05: And Enough, as a wonderful person that he is, you know what I mean?
- 15:37SPEAKER_05: He's just like me.
- 15:38SPEAKER_05: We could be assholes sometimes.
- 15:39SPEAKER_05: He goes, Yo, with your man now.
- 15:41SPEAKER_05: I'm like, right here, he's ready.
- 15:42SPEAKER_05: He goes, Yo, he better not be whack, son.
- 15:45SPEAKER_05: He better not be whack.
- 15:46SPEAKER_05: And I was like, I swear to God, he's not whack.
- 15:49SPEAKER_05: Three records in, he goes, he not whack.
- 15:52SPEAKER_05: I was like, I told you, Bobby.
- 15:54SPEAKER_05: And history was made after that day.
- 15:56SPEAKER_05: And I and I'll forever remember that was at Hofstra University that night.
- 15:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I remember that was at Hobster.
- 16:02SPEAKER_05: And then now, like, I gotta you I got kudos to Cass.
- 16:06SPEAKER_05: Cass won has a person who never wanted to do this with his life, has made a life out of this shit.
- 16:12SPEAKER_05: And it was incredible.
- 16:13SPEAKER_05: All right, that's the understanding.
- 16:15SPEAKER_05: You did not want to be involved with the case.
- 16:16SPEAKER_05: No, no, no, no.
- 16:17SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: I kind of got that same vibe too, Cass.
- 16:20SPEAKER_04: No, but listen, that that was facts, but not facts.
- 16:24SPEAKER_04: Because I always was DJing and I love DJing, right?
- 16:27SPEAKER_04: I just didn't see a way that DJing could be a career.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: Um, could provide.
- 16:34SPEAKER_04: Like, I didn't see DJ as a job.
- 16:35SPEAKER_04: Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 16:36SPEAKER_04: Like, I love DJing, I would DJ.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: It's kind of like, it's kind of like when you grow up with all your friends and you play basketball with all your friends.
- 16:42SPEAKER_04: All my friends used to DJ.
- 16:43SPEAKER_04: We all used to just hang out and DJ all day, whatever, whatever.
- 16:46SPEAKER_04: But it was never like I'm gonna be like, oh yeah, I'm gonna be like DJ, I'm gonna be like Vadalert, or I'm gonna be like DJ enough, I'm gonna be like Kick Capri.
- 16:54SPEAKER_04: It was never a thought in my head that that was a thing, right?
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: Yes, your friends weren't good.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: You were good.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no, no.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: No, my friends were good.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: No, no, I'm not even gonna, yo, my friends were good, bro.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: My friends were good, bro.
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: We were like, we was official with it, right?
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: But it was all like for fun.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: It was like for basketball for fun, bro.
- 17:12SPEAKER_04: Okay, so when Bugs, look, you know, it's like, okay, no, for real, bro.
- 17:16SPEAKER_04: Like, my yo, Mark, me and Mark Mark the spot from LA.
- 17:18SPEAKER_04: That was my best friend, Mark.
- 17:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, me and him used to DJ the whole time.
- 17:22SPEAKER_04: Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 17:22SPEAKER_04: Like, it was a you'd be surprised, like the collective that I had of DJs at that young age.
- 17:26SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna go through all the names right now, but it was just for fun.
- 17:30SPEAKER_04: Something we did since we were like 13, 14 years old.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: So when I did get to school, and I'm and Boogs and I end up being roommates, I had you know turntables in the room, and it was for fun.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: And but Boogs was doing it for real.
- 17:43SPEAKER_04: He's like, I remember Boogs would be like, nah, bro, what I'm going to do, it's I'm going to go end up doing radio.
- 17:49SPEAKER_04: I'm going to do this.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: That was his goal.
- 17:51SPEAKER_04: Like, that was actually his goal.
- 17:53SPEAKER_04: And I would be like, right.
- 17:56SPEAKER_04: Hi, man.
- 17:57SPEAKER_04: He's like, You go ahead.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: You go ahead.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: I wanna I wanna backtrack though.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Let's go back to the enough real quick.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Like, I want to know, you first started DJing.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Did you want to make it a career?
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Like, what was like you first started DJing?
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Yo, my first time.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: What was the goal?
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Was there a goal?
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: Yo, no, a hobby.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: My first for me it was a hobby.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Look, bro, when I first got offered to do uh my first club night in New York City, they offered me 300 bucks, okay?
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Which is great because I was back back then, back then, I would have done it for free, right?
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: That's how excited and how in love it was the music, bro.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: It wasn't the craft of me being a DJ, it was just the music.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: I was in love with the music.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: And Cass better had been great.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: He was born across the street from where hip hop was born.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: Damn it up the hill where hip hop was born.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: You can see Sedgwick Avenue, like oh yeah, you could like my building my balcony face theater park, bro.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: Like, I just walk out my balcony, that's crazy.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, my man, Cass One's background.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: Yo, in the boom, when I used to go to Cass One Crib, I used to be afraid.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: I used to be like, Yeah, yo, my man, Cast Block is crazy.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: I had a brand new car.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: He was like, You're the one between the car and the block, waiting for me down the hill.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: Like that.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: Just like that.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: That's how it works, bro.
- 19:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: Like, yo, I'm gonna get stuck up, I'm gonna get stuck up on Cass Block.
- 19:23SPEAKER_04: But nah, but it wasn't like that at all because then you started getting people like, yo, is that DJ enough?
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: Yo, what's up, my D.
- 19:30SPEAKER_04: But anyway, but so so E, you would say Camillo asked, you know, did you think you were gonna see a career out of it?
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: So you still had a job, regular job.
- 19:37SPEAKER_04: What was your goal at that point, like in your life goal?
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: You wouldn't be like, what did you want to do besides, you know, used to DJ for fun, but what was your what were you what did you do for work?
- 19:45SPEAKER_04: What did you want to do?
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: My heart, I wanted to be a football player.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: And then after that, I thought I could I was gonna be a chef.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I heard that.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: I was like, damn, the chef thing actually could have popped off.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: I was on my way.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Because I was in high school, I uh actually had a couple of internships at some very high-end restaurants.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: Real quick, real quick, just like let's let you guys know, enough be chefing.
- 20:09SPEAKER_04: If you ever been to a DJ enough dinner when he loves cooking, bro, serious situation.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: Tell your mom to sit down, tell our boy Lita to sit down when enough is on the pots and pants.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: All right, go ahead.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, when the white tea in the chat is on the case.
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: I could put my foot in there.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna cut it.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Yo, DJ Enough went to Columbia when we did breakfast for the whole squad.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: No, I'm telling you, he's official.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: And I was like, go ahead, go ahead, chef enough.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: Go ahead, go ahead.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: So, anyway, um, I was chefing it up, and then in high school I had an internship at this place called Cafe de Artis, I believe it was in by Central Park West, right?
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: It was a French bistro restaurant, four or five-star restaurant, big deal.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: But it didn't last long because I thought, you know, growing up back in those days, you know, I'm a kid from the Low East Side.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: I grew up in the projects, I lived in tenement houses for many years.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: I've been through a lot of racial issues with my my younger life.
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: Every time I had to go through the internship, they kept making me go through the back.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: And I was like, making me go through the back.
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: And then, yo, every time, but then stupid me didn't realize that everybody who works in a restaurant goes through the back.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: The only person that goes through the front is the chef, right?
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: So I was like, oh shit.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: So I didn't I I didn't know that, but I thought it was a racial thing.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: So I took it amongst myself.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: I was like, man, fuck this, fuck y'all, fuck everybody.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: I ain't doing this.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: So I kind of played myself because I thought it was a racial thing, and it wasn't a racial thing because I was so entrenched of being hurt so many times from race.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: You know, when you when you a come on, you guys all know, man, when you're a brown kid growing up in the hood and there's white people around, sometimes they treat you right, sometimes they treat you bad, man.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: And sometimes those are the things I d I wasn't willing to fucking, you know.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Deal with no more or whatever.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: You feel me?
- 22:03SPEAKER_05: So so we got the crew going.
- 22:05SPEAKER_05: We're moving forward with it.
- 22:06SPEAKER_05: And then you're like, oh shit, it's here, right?
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: It's here.
- 22:09SPEAKER_05: We're really doing this thing.
- 22:10SPEAKER_05: So now is your idea going in the same direction that you thought of it or that you and Threat spoke about?
- 22:17SPEAKER_05: Or is it like now, like, fuck is we doing with 30 DJs now?
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: I think initially the first 10, 15 DJs, it was easy to control.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: It was easy to have access to them.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was easy to get on the phone, be like, yo, meet me over here.
- 22:31SPEAKER_03: Let's have a little meeting.
- 22:31SPEAKER_03: Let's discuss it.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: Plus, we had uh Renee's office to kind of go and meet and you know have our little meeting, and then we had the fucking park across the street at the station where we met a few times.
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: There's always a place where we just meet in group and you know, back then it was mostly New York Tri-State Park.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: It was easier.
- 22:49SPEAKER_05: It was easier for us.
- 22:50SPEAKER_05: We was in the same building.
- 22:51SPEAKER_05: That's all it was.
- 22:53SPEAKER_05: So, E, and then there's been times that like you've had to try to figure out what to do with this crew, like where the fuck are we doing?
- 22:59SPEAKER_05: What are we?
- 23:00SPEAKER_05: Are we a marketing company?
- 23:01SPEAKER_05: Are we really a management company?
- 23:02SPEAKER_05: Are we a bunch of just talented people?
- 23:04SPEAKER_05: And then throughout throughout 20 plus years, has there has there been times that like you've looked at it and you go, the fuck are we doing?
- 23:13SPEAKER_05: Like Sometimes.
- 23:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 23:15SPEAKER_05: Sometimes why don't you guys have a record label?
- 23:18SPEAKER_05: Why don't you guys have a production squad?
- 23:19SPEAKER_05: Why don't you guys have a a yearly something?
- 23:22SPEAKER_05: Like, you know what I mean?
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: Like, is it more of like, yo, because I'd always tell people is more like, look, each of us individually, we stand on our own.
- 23:30SPEAKER_05: Like we have our own thing.
- 23:31SPEAKER_05: It's just as a collective, Jesus Christ, you can't fuck with us.
- 23:34SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: To me, out of this whole thing is the administration part, the admin part, the, you know, getting on, you know, emails and answering, you know, all that shit is hard.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: And it wasn't until honestly I met my wife that she came to help and she buttoned up a lot of the ideas that we had.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: You know, my wife made the retreats better.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: My wife made the, you know, just a lot of the activations that we did just better because she had follow through.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: What happened is we have a lot of us men have great ideas, and we have horrible execution and horrible follow-up.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: We're not organized, bro.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: Just say it, man.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: We're messed.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: It is what it is.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying, so that's kind of what it was.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: And then to the point where, like, I'll get in an argument with my wife, and she'd be like, I don't want to deal with your shit.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: I don't want to talk to none of your heavy hitters, I don't want to talk to none of your friends.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: I'd be like, God damn.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: And I'd be like, yo, I better fix my shit, because if not, she's gonna dead me and dead the whole crew.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 24:31SPEAKER_04: You know, and and honestly, one of the I felt like as far as you know, books, you're talking about being organized as a crew, and you're talking about one aspect of it, but my favorite aspect of the crew that I don't know if this was intentional by enough or by design, is the fact that you have all these different people with different access points to different things that you can reach out to at any given time, right?
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: The resource is incredible.
- 24:56SPEAKER_04: Where it's like if everybody's on their own and doing their own thing, you're navigating your own life, you're doing everything for the first time, right?
- 25:03SPEAKER_04: How great is it that you can be like, okay, boom, I need to find out how to put a record out, and you could call somebody like um DJ Infamous, or you can call somebody like Philly Fell and be like, hey man, what's the process of doing this?
- 25:18SPEAKER_04: And you don't have to learn by bumping your head because now you have a whole, a whole, a whole, a whole group of people that can show you how to do it.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: You can be like, yo, Camelo, how how did you set how was it that it worked for you to get into so many clubs, or what kind of process can you look at my look at what I'm doing, and what can you advise me that could do better?
- 25:38SPEAKER_04: That I can do better.
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: And that to me is the greatest thing ever, where I could be like, okay, boom.
- 25:42SPEAKER_04: Even something as simple as, yo, I'm going to Louisville, Kentucky tomorrow, not to DJ, not for anything, just to be there.
- 25:49SPEAKER_04: And I can go, hey, E Feasy, what's a good place to eat out here?
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: I know not I know somebody in Kentucky, I know somebody in California, I know somebody in Phoenix.
- 25:59SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:00SPEAKER_04: Like that resource is invaluable.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Even though even deeper than that, even deeper, like most of us have relationships, right?
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Girlfriends married, and a lot of DJs go through it, bro.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: And I've gotten the phone, most popular phone call I've gotten from other DJs, especially from the crew.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Yo, how do you do it?
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: How do you balance nightlife with wifey?
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Yo, she don't beef, yo, she don't complain, yo, she don't argue, yo.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: But my girl, you know, she goes she's mad, whatever.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, you know, I I tell her my my experience, and like all DJs go through this.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: No, we do.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: Women drama, wifey drama, girlfriend drama.
- 26:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:40SPEAKER_05: You know what I stole from you years ago, years.
- 26:43SPEAKER_05: I'm talking like 20 plus years ago.
- 26:45SPEAKER_05: The fact that you didn't work on Wednesdays.
- 26:48SPEAKER_05: I remember.
- 26:49SPEAKER_05: See?
- 26:49SPEAKER_05: You don't even know this.
- 26:50SPEAKER_05: I noticed that.
- 26:51SPEAKER_05: And I was like, yo, Camillo always takes Wednesdays, and he literally goes, You didn't have to ask him.
- 26:56SPEAKER_05: It's like, it's family Wednesdays, wifey Wednesdays, you know what I'm saying?
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:01SPEAKER_05: And I stole that from you, and I remember I was like, bro, Wednesdays I don't work.
- 27:05SPEAKER_05: Wednesdays promoters don't call me.
- 27:07SPEAKER_05: And I was like, something simple as that, Camill made me sit my ass home on a Wednesday without you even knowing that.
- 27:13SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 27:14SPEAKER_05: And it happens for you guys are saying, like, one of the best things, and I agree with Cass, is the resources you gain.
- 27:20SPEAKER_05: Like, you don't only gain the prize, because it is a fucking prize to be a heavy hitter.
- 27:24SPEAKER_05: You don't gain just the prize of a heavy hitter.
- 27:26SPEAKER_05: But now you have a phone book, and like you said, man, anywhere you're touching down, it doesn't have to be music related.
- 27:32SPEAKER_05: You have somewhere to land, even if it's just information.
- 27:35SPEAKER_05: And that shit's invaluable, dog, because there's some people that can't even get a song.
- 27:39SPEAKER_05: There's some people, like you said, don't even know how to put a song out.
- 27:43SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 27:44SPEAKER_05: So, like, when it comes to the resource part, hell yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: Like, look, right now, I could call Camillo if I want music, food, or if I want sneakers.
- 27:52SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 27:53SPEAKER_05: Like, that's crazy to me.
- 27:55SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 27:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: Like, besides that, besides that, it's more of like, there's a lot of aspects to this business that people don't know, right?
- 28:04SPEAKER_04: That as a DJ, you wouldn't even know because you're so focused on being hot, playing the hot song, getting your library right, getting into these clubs, whatever, whatever.
- 28:12SPEAKER_04: But what about the other side of it?
- 28:13SPEAKER_04: Like, what about life insurance?
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: What about what about savings?
- 28:18SPEAKER_04: What about investing?
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: What about setting up your own company?
- 28:20SPEAKER_04: What about figuring out the way you're gonna get paid?
- 28:22SPEAKER_04: What about taxes?
- 28:23SPEAKER_04: All of these things I learned from like enough, Camillo, who were doing it before me, and they had to bump their head to figure out how to do it.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: Guess what?
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: I didn't have to bump my head to figure out how to do it because I had them.
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: I'd be like, hey, yo, how'd you do this?
- 28:37SPEAKER_04: Boom.
- 28:37SPEAKER_04: I did this, I said this up, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:39SPEAKER_04: Okay, go do it.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: And you know what I'm saying?
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: Like that right there is an invaluable thing when it comes to like uh having this sort of of more than business ties where people look at heavy hitters and be like, oh, well, what do you guys do?
- 28:51SPEAKER_04: Do you guys put out records or are you guys a management company?
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: It's the resource, I think.
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: And again, I don't know if this was by intention or did just happen to happen this way, right?
- 29:00SPEAKER_04: But just the resources of everybody in the crew and being able to, you know, learn things and share things is just like, bro, that is priceless.
- 29:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I tried to even do something even bigger at one point around the early 2000s, maybe 2003 or something like that.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: I remember I had a talk with a bunch of in the building that High 97 was in at that time, it was inside uh the carpenter's union building, right?
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: And I would talk to the union reps in the building, and they always said, Yo, won't you just join our union?
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: I said, I'm not a carpenter.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: You don't need you don't need to be a carpenter to be part of the union.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: So I was like, I don't understand.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: But they were trying to teach me and educate me, like for me to set up a union for the disc jockeys, because disc jockeys weren't a lot of disc jockeys I know were hot in the streets, they were getting they were rocking seven days a week, but they had no insurance, they had no fucking health insurance, they had nothing, and I was trying to figure out a real way to turn heavy hitters into a real union.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: I remember that.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: It's like the whatever retirement plan, all that.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: That was that was the goal, that was the official goal.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: That was the goal.
- 30:07SPEAKER_05: No, but even uh Mama enough was who taught me to get an LLC, she taught me to go get your taxes right.
- 30:14SPEAKER_05: She was like, Don't you dare collect them checks in your name.
- 30:16SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 30:17SPEAKER_05: So, like sometimes those are invaluable resources that are right in front of your face.
- 30:21SPEAKER_05: So sometimes people don't even get those resources.
- 30:24SPEAKER_05: And and like I said, when you guys travel, you guys know very well that you're gonna land somewhere and somebody's gonna pick up that phone call just because you're a heavy hitter.
- 30:32SPEAKER_05: And I do say that between all of us, no matter how many, how many times we keep growing, like like Yvette would say, we are a fraternal family, you know what I'm saying?
- 30:40SPEAKER_05: And and and yes, we do want to help each other out because what I love about us too, everybody's at a level of like, yeah, I need your help, but at the same time, I could navigate through this shit by myself.
- 30:51SPEAKER_05: But it's it's it's it's it's a very happy moment when you know you have over a hundred people you can reach out to for anything.
- 30:58SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 30:59SPEAKER_05: Like anything.
- 31:00SPEAKER_05: Like, and I'm pretty sure Camillo back in the days when you was just knocking out all them damn mixtapes and you was in the street, like you were like, I'm doing this alone, I'm doing this alone.
- 31:09SPEAKER_05: But then you realize, because you do, you've always had a squad.
- 31:12SPEAKER_05: I've inherited all your friends.
- 31:14SPEAKER_05: So I know your squad from back in the day.
- 31:16SPEAKER_05: So, like, yeah, to you, Camillo, I will say that you taught me how you you need to let people know where you're gonna be at in advance.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: Don't let them know where you're gonna be at on the first day.
- 31:25SPEAKER_05: You gotta let them know where you're gonna be at for the next 30 days.
- 31:28SPEAKER_05: Camilla, one thing I and I'll big you up always is like uh Yuda, those faces are still around.
- 31:34SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 31:35SPEAKER_05: Of course, uh uh uh everybody, big Lou, you know what I mean?
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: Like then, yeah, and I love that shit because individually, we all have that.
- 31:45SPEAKER_05: We all have that.
- 31:46SPEAKER_05: Like, I know Enough still has one or two.
- 31:48SPEAKER_05: Cass still has one or two.
- 31:49SPEAKER_05: I still have, and Camilo, you put me on to that outside of the crew and within the crew.
- 31:54SPEAKER_05: Like, I will say, Camillos, like, you've always been a glue, bro.
- 31:58SPEAKER_05: And and I really appreciate that.
- 31:59SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: Thank you, thank you.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: I appreciate that.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Listen, another thing I want to add, the beauty of it too is like let's say you're going to fucking Japan.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: You're DJ in Japan, you get booked in Japan.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: What the fuck is popping in Japan?
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: As cast.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: No, but I'm saying you get there, you have DJ Lee, right?
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: And then he puts you on, yeah, yeah, do this to do you, but this is good, this is God, you know, and and and it kind of like it sets you up for success.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: Right, because when you go to Japan, they don't rock like we do in New York.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: You can't play the same way.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: It's a different strategy.
- 32:33SPEAKER_04: You gotta do homework, you know?
- 32:35SPEAKER_04: And it's a great thing you brought that up because that's a great example, right?
- 32:37SPEAKER_04: A couple of weeks ago, I went out to Japan just to see, to just to go watch this bad bunny show.
- 32:43SPEAKER_04: I wasn't working, I wasn't DJing, I didn't tell anybody I was going, I didn't tell anybody I was coming.
- 32:48SPEAKER_04: I went to Japan, bro.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: I put up a picture on Instagram in front of a Japanese uh vending machine.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: My Japanese brothers were on my line right away.
- 32:58SPEAKER_04: Yo, you out here?
- 32:58SPEAKER_04: What are you doing?
- 32:59SPEAKER_04: What you doing?
- 33:00SPEAKER_04: You not working?
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: You need a gig?
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: Come through here, do this.
- 33:02SPEAKER_04: Blah, blah, blah.
- 33:03SPEAKER_04: Yo, I'm good, bros.
- 33:05SPEAKER_04: I'm good.
- 33:05SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:06SPEAKER_04: And I still ended up working because of, you know, the peoples out there in the connection.
- 33:10SPEAKER_04: But still, that's the type of thing that I'm talking about.
- 33:12SPEAKER_04: It could be a moment where I don't talk to whoever for however long.
- 33:16SPEAKER_04: And I know if I'm like, all right, cool, I have something that maybe e Fezy can help, maybe he might be able to help me with or give me some direction.
- 33:22SPEAKER_04: I know that I can call E Fezy or I can text E Feasy and he's gonna hit me back.
- 33:27SPEAKER_04: And either he can help me or he won't, but at least I'll have that in where he can be like, okay, cool, I know how you I can help you.
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: I can't do it, but I know somebody who can, right?
- 33:36SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: And just that alone, it's huge.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: Huge.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: It's a culture, bro.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: Culture's big too.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: I remember going to Japan for the very first time, and the guy was like, Yeah, Clark Kent was just here.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: I was like, Clark Kent, the DJ Clark Kent?
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: He's like, Yeah.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: I said, Take me to every sneaker store that you took.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: Because I knew Clark Kent had the ill sneakers the king.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: He was king.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: Like, damn.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: And then I remember it was me, Cass, and Bugs, and I forgot who else.
- 34:07SPEAKER_04: No, it wasn't Bugs, it was Julio.
- 34:10SPEAKER_05: Julio, it was Julio.
- 34:11SPEAKER_05: Julio.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: It was Big Julio, me, you, Big Julio.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but I think it was Bugs or Cass.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: One of you guys taught me how to break down the boxes.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: Oh, it was Cass.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: And then bring it in the box.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: I was Cass?
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 34:23SPEAKER_03: We would buy, we'd go with one Maleta luggage, y'all, and then we'd come back with two or three.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 34:29SPEAKER_03: It was crazy.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: I'll admit, you guys took that job.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we broke down the sneaker boxes so that they won't get crushed.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: And then flatten them out.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we opened them up, flattened them, and then we put the sneakers in the Maletta.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: I'd like to point out that Enough brought me on that trip.
- 34:44SPEAKER_04: That was my first time in Japan ever, right?
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: He brought me out there, paid me for going out there, and I spent every last cent plus more on sneakers.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: So I came back in the red.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: What I appreciate was anybody out there that don't for anybody that don't know, back in the days, you could go to Japan and get the gems that you couldn't get out here.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: Nowadays it's changed.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: But back then, you used to have like Clark Cameron, he used to go and come back like 10k, like I would hear about it.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: 10 suitcases back of just sneakers.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Like shit you couldn't get over there over here.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: So yeah, back going to Japan was a gem for sneakers, bro.
- 35:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:23SPEAKER_05: And then, and then, but but but that's our reach, though.
- 35:25SPEAKER_05: And I love that.
- 35:26SPEAKER_05: That's our reach.
- 35:27SPEAKER_05: That's our reach, bro.
- 35:28SPEAKER_05: Like, like when I tell people these days, I'd be like, bro, we got people in Bangkok.
- 35:32SPEAKER_05: They like it, it still like fucks them up.
- 35:34SPEAKER_05: Like they just because they really, some people believe we're only in the five boroughs, and like we only do clubs and shit.
- 35:39SPEAKER_05: And I'd be like, rolling loud, bro, over there, that's a heavy hitter situation.
- 35:43SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 35:44SPEAKER_05: Like, even youter who we don't own too much, but you just busy as fuck out there doing things that we don't even pay attention to.
- 35:52SPEAKER_05: But it's like he's still spreading the fucking.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: Buddha's from Jackson Heights, Queens.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: Isn't that crazy, bro?
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: He's from my area and moved out there and became bigger than yo.
- 36:03SPEAKER_05: I can't wait.
- 36:04SPEAKER_05: I can't wait to talk to those guys.
- 36:05SPEAKER_05: I I need that whole story.
- 36:06SPEAKER_05: I've never got the whole story of let's pick up a lot of things.
- 36:09SPEAKER_05: It's a great story.
- 36:10SPEAKER_05: Yo, those guys are rock stars.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: Come in soon on the heavy hitters podcast, dude.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: I tell you, they rock stars.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: No, me and my wife went to Thailand.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: They picked us up from the airport in the cart, and the cart got our luggage.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: We went right through security with them.
- 36:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:28SPEAKER_03: And it was like, yo, yo, the way, the way the the TSA over there is like, oh no, go through, go through.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: Like, yo, my story, hold on.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: My story was like, that's that's to add on to that.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: I never been to Thailand.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: We did Summer Jam Tokyo, like, I don't know, 10 years ago.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: I took the opportunity, say, okay, we're going to Tokyo.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: I'm taking my kids and wifey.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: We land over there.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: I planned a whole trip through Buddha to go to Thailand and Phuket, Fifi Islands, all of that, because Buddha just set me fuck.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: He set me up like the god out there.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: Can I?
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: Yo, go ahead, go ahead.
- 37:05SPEAKER_04: No, I'll say, can I?
- 37:06SPEAKER_04: Let me tell you my quick story about these guys, right?
- 37:08SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna tell you we're gonna have them on the podcast, but since we're here right now, I gotta tell you a big, quick, or just story.
- 37:14SPEAKER_04: Shout out to my brother DJ Nookie from Japan, all right?
- 37:17SPEAKER_04: Because what happened was I remember I was I went to Thailand for my honeymoon, right?
- 37:23SPEAKER_04: Hated it.
- 37:24SPEAKER_04: Worst experience ever.
- 37:25SPEAKER_04: Like I had this was like Thailand was wild.
- 37:28SPEAKER_04: I just couldn't deal with it.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: I didn't like it.
- 37:30SPEAKER_04: So then the very next, I want to say maybe that was in December, maybe three months later, DJ Nookie hits me up because I was going to Japan with Nookie and he goes, Yo, do you want to go DJ in Thailand?
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, absolutely not.
- 37:42SPEAKER_04: I hate Thailand, I'm never going there, right?
- 37:44SPEAKER_04: And he's like, No, trust me, you gotta go.
- 37:46SPEAKER_04: I got these guys that you gotta meet out there.
- 37:48SPEAKER_04: It's crazy, they're gonna love it, blah, blah, blah.
- 37:51SPEAKER_04: I was like, no, absolutely not.
- 37:52SPEAKER_04: It took him about a month to convince me to do it.
- 37:54SPEAKER_04: And I was like, all right, fine, let's go for like two days.
- 37:57SPEAKER_04: Boom.
- 37:57SPEAKER_04: So we get to Thailand, and you know, Buddha and Ono pick me, pick us up uh from the airport, and we meet them, they're cool.
- 38:04SPEAKER_04: I was surprised because I didn't know you were from Queens.
- 38:06SPEAKER_04: I was like, Oh, yeah, I'm from Queens, all right, cool.
- 38:08SPEAKER_04: We're driving into the city now.
- 38:09SPEAKER_04: Think about this the equivalent of Times Square.
- 38:11SPEAKER_04: We get to like the Times Square of Bangkok, and these dudes on the Times Square billboards.
- 38:18SPEAKER_04: Heard you all over, and I'm like, this is different.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:25SPEAKER_04: I'm fucking with the right guys.
- 38:27SPEAKER_04: This is different, right?
- 38:28SPEAKER_04: This is different, man.
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: So those guys, you know, then they show me they had it so tied up.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: I was like, I came back and I was like, yo, bro, we ain't shit.
- 38:37SPEAKER_04: We ain't shit over here.
- 38:38SPEAKER_04: We have to put these guys down.
- 38:40SPEAKER_04: These guys are the epitome of heavy hitters.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: Then enough went down there and he rocked with them and he saw what it was.
- 38:45SPEAKER_04: And you know, long story short, we put them down, but we'll let them tell their side of the story when they get on.
- 38:50SPEAKER_04: But I can't this is just this is just the heavy hitter thing.
- 38:54SPEAKER_04: This is how it kind of happens, you know?
- 38:55SPEAKER_04: It's kind of how people get put down.
- 38:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I can't.
- 38:57SPEAKER_05: And I'm gonna be real with y'all.
- 38:58SPEAKER_05: Like, I I use that to brag, I use that shit to brag when it comes to the heavy hitters.
- 39:03SPEAKER_05: Like, I brag the fuck out of that.
- 39:04SPEAKER_05: Like, yeah, we in Dominican Republic, yep, we in Columbia, yep, we here, we there, we there, we there.
- 39:10SPEAKER_05: Because it's I think that shit, like the fact that there's other people that have started one crew, two crew, three crew, and then there's crews that like try to you know be like us, and like we still fucking standing, bro.
- 39:20SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 39:21SPEAKER_05: And not only are we standing, like I'm a books, I'm a OG.
- 39:25SPEAKER_05: I accept it.
- 39:26SPEAKER_05: I'm OG because these new little motherfuckers call me sir, so I gotta accept it.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Wow, they call you sir, okay, uncle, bro, sir.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: I'm like uncle all the time.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm gonna tell you, I think we're still standing for a couple of things, just for the reason that I think we all have a lot of things in common, and why we put motherfuckers down is because we all have to have a couple of things in common.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Number one, we gotta love DJ.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: That's number one, we have to be passionate.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: Number two, we have to have this brotherhood, and that's that's what I think kept us together so long.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, listen, I tell everybody we're not fucking perfect.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: Some of us don't get along here and there, some of our differences, we've seen it, but don't brothers and sisters go through that bullshit?
- 40:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, wait, come out, call it out.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: Call it out, call it out yet.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: It's gonna come out, it's gonna come out.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it's too early for that.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: We ain't perfect, some of us talk shit about each other or whatever, but at the end of the day, we're a fucking brotherhood, and I think that's why we have lasted how many years?
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: 25?
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: 25 plus 26 to be 26, right?
- 40:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, in 99 it'll be 30 fucking years.
- 40:36SPEAKER_05: I mean, sorry, in 29 it'll be 30 years.
- 40:39SPEAKER_04: Crazy.
- 40:39SPEAKER_04: And really, the baseline is just the baseline, bro, at the end of the day is just being a good person, right?
- 40:45SPEAKER_04: Everybody on the team is pretty much a good person, you know.
- 40:49SPEAKER_04: When it comes down to the when it boils down to the nitty-gritty of it, I it's hard for me to find a person and be like, you know, you know what, that person is a bad guy, like you know what I'm saying?
- 41:00SPEAKER_04: Or bad or bad, or a bad lady, like you know what I'm saying?
- 41:02SPEAKER_04: Like that, and I think that plays a big part in it, you know.
- 41:06SPEAKER_03: But we also grow too individually, all of us.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: No, and what also I was thinking about retiring.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: I said, I'm not doing this shit no more.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'm gonna hand it over to Camillo, right?
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: And some of the DJs in the crew were like, you can't hand it over to Camillo.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: I mean he's messy, bro.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: They were mad nervous because Camilo was just so such a goal getter.
- 41:25SPEAKER_03: And it wasn't like Camill wasn't a team player, he was just so busy, right?
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: So I didn't want his responsibility.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: But that's what it was.
- 41:35SPEAKER_03: I think people were so they were they were confused.
- 41:38SPEAKER_03: Does Camill really care about us?
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: Or is he just too busy?
- 41:42SPEAKER_03: And that's honestly, he was just too busy.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: That's all it was, bro.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: That's all it was.
- 41:46SPEAKER_05: But to Yvette's point, we are brotherhood and we are sisterhood.
- 41:51SPEAKER_05: And I think I think that's what some crews, some groups, some whatever, they can't, they can't do that.
- 41:56SPEAKER_05: They can't find you know talent on both sides.
- 41:59SPEAKER_05: And I think we've been able to do that.
- 42:00SPEAKER_05: We because look at that, not all of us are DJs.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: I'm not a DJ.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:04SPEAKER_05: Laura Styles is not a DJ, you know what I'm saying?
- 42:06SPEAKER_05: And we're here, and we even got people that represent us in the in the offices in the corporate world, but we all have that heavy hitter thing.
- 42:14SPEAKER_05: I don't know what the fuck that is.
- 42:15SPEAKER_05: Look, you always be a DJ.
- 42:17SPEAKER_05: So you know what?
- 42:18SPEAKER_04: Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe we've come around to what the point of this podcast is.
- 42:22SPEAKER_04: Maybe that's that.
- 42:23SPEAKER_04: Maybe that's showing everybody or giving everybody a piece of being a heavy hitter.
- 42:28SPEAKER_04: Like, this is what you gotta do in life.
- 42:31SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:31SPEAKER_04: Like, in life, not so much to be a crew, but just like here's an example of how things could work.
- 42:38SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:39SPEAKER_04: Many examples how of how things could work.
- 42:41SPEAKER_04: How you could apply this to your own, to your own network, whatever it is.
- 42:46SPEAKER_04: To your own network, to your own thing, whether you're a DJ, you're trying to be a host, whether you're in school to be a doctor, whether you're, you know, whatever it is, you can always find some gems that apply it to what it is that you're doing.
- 42:57SPEAKER_05: No, and it's not that.
- 42:58SPEAKER_05: Like Camilo is like, you know what I'm saying?
- 43:01SPEAKER_05: You can be a DJ and then some.
- 43:02SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 43:03SPEAKER_05: Enough taught is like I could be a producer, then be a DJ and then some.
- 43:07SPEAKER_05: Cas one, I could be a graph kid who loves hip hop.
- 43:10SPEAKER_05: Let me be a DJ, but now I'm in an office doing DJ-related shit.
- 43:13SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 43:13SPEAKER_05: Like me.
- 43:14SPEAKER_05: And again, like at there was a point I was getting booked like a DJ, and nobody could believe.
- 43:18SPEAKER_05: They're like, who the fuck is this guy?
- 43:19SPEAKER_05: He doesn't even DJ and he's doing three gigs a night.
- 43:21SPEAKER_05: And I told people, I was like, you know why, motherfucker?
- 43:23SPEAKER_05: Because I'm a heavy hitter.
- 43:24SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 43:25SPEAKER_05: So I don't need to be a DJ.
- 43:26SPEAKER_05: Because I got 30 DJs at my disposal whenever I make a phone call, they're there.
- 43:30SPEAKER_05: Or even Camillo sometimes would be like, yo, Bugs, I worked too hard last night.
- 43:34SPEAKER_05: I can't fucking talk.
- 43:35SPEAKER_05: Are you picking my?
- 43:36SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: And I'd be like, how many times I used to lose my voice all the time.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: Finally, I learned how to scream, but there was time Bugs or Pretty Lou, yo, I'm fucked up.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, y'all gotta get on this mic while I DJ.
- 43:50SPEAKER_05: And I used to tell Camillo like that's what happens when you're not talking from the esophagus, fam.
- 43:54SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 43:55SPEAKER_05: You gotta stop talking right here.
- 43:56SPEAKER_05: You gotta be a diaphragm, fam.
- 43:58SPEAKER_05: Facts now now it's Rare I lose my voice, but back in the day, oh my God.
- 44:03SPEAKER_05: And but that's what I mean.
- 44:04SPEAKER_05: Like, shit like that.
- 44:05SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry, y'all.
- 44:06SPEAKER_05: That shit is priceless.
- 44:07SPEAKER_05: You can't find it anywhere.
- 44:09SPEAKER_05: You cannot find that everywhere.
- 44:10SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry.
- 44:10SPEAKER_05: You can't find that everywhere, bro.
- 44:12SPEAKER_05: Hey, y'all, these are people who are doing their own thing and collectively know, like, yo, what you up to, B?
- 44:17SPEAKER_05: Let's go get this money.
- 44:18SPEAKER_05: And I love that shit, bro.
- 44:19SPEAKER_05: Or even like, not even money.
- 44:21SPEAKER_05: It's like, let's go, let's go through this experience.
- 44:23SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 44:24SPEAKER_05: And like we have so much access and we're always willing to share it with each other.
- 44:27SPEAKER_05: And I love that shit.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: I want to take it further.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm gonna switch a little bit.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: It's 2026, and I love that there's so many young DJs that holler at me that want to get down.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: But I want to say one thing.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: I tell them all, if you haven't met enough, let's start right there.
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: If you haven't met him, let's talk another day.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: Go meet him first.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: And that's the first thing I say.
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: If you haven't met the boss, there's nothing to talk about.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: But he's there, I can't, I don't know where he's at.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: Find him, bro.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: Your homework, find him.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: Together accomplish anything.
- 45:05SPEAKER_05: I love that.
- 45:06SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 45:06SPEAKER_05: One thing that I and I'm and that's the first time I'll admit it because some of y'all have sent this energy my way.
- 45:12SPEAKER_05: When people go, yo, I spoke to Camillo.
- 45:16SPEAKER_05: I didn't even know you was that fucking rude, bro.
- 45:19SPEAKER_05: They told me that you don't like nobody.
- 45:22SPEAKER_05: Or like people will be like, yo, people will be like, Bugs, yo, I known you for 10 years.
- 45:28SPEAKER_05: I didn't know you was the guy.
- 45:29SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, yeah, because I don't like nobody, bro.
- 45:32SPEAKER_05: And like Ace Smooth, Ace Smooth, who I love.
- 45:36SPEAKER_05: Ace Smooth is my brother.
- 45:37SPEAKER_05: He's my kid.
- 45:38SPEAKER_05: I love this kid.
- 45:39SPEAKER_05: And he will forever tell you.
- 45:41SPEAKER_05: He goes, when we had A Less Radio, they were like, yo, this is Ace Smooth.
- 45:45SPEAKER_05: He did it.
- 45:46SPEAKER_05: He'll tell you to this day.
- 45:47SPEAKER_05: My answer to him was like, what the fuck you doing here?
- 45:49SPEAKER_05: What's your fucking purpose?
- 45:51SPEAKER_05: And he said, I don't know if he was joking with me or not, but god damn, that shit changed my life.
- 45:58SPEAKER_05: Because some people believe I got the logo, we popping.
- 46:01SPEAKER_05: Nah, my man.
- 46:02SPEAKER_05: Now's when you start working.
- 46:03SPEAKER_05: Now's when you start busting your ass.
- 46:04SPEAKER_05: Because being a heavy hitter is like, congratulations, you've been working hard.
- 46:08SPEAKER_05: Now go work harder because nobody really gives a fuck.
- 46:10SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: And now you gotta keep that fucking that momentum, that brand, and rep that brand for Woody what it is.
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: So now you can't.
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I love it.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: DJ Ace Move is one of the most incredible imagers on fucking radio.
- 46:23SPEAKER_05: And DJs in the country.
- 46:25SPEAKER_05: And DJs.
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: And I always tell people, I'm like, that kid was my intern, and now he's my vocal coach.
- 46:31SPEAKER_05: Like this kid be sending me my shit back.
- 46:32SPEAKER_05: He'd be like, yo, that shit was trash.
- 46:34SPEAKER_05: Do it over.
- 46:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:35SPEAKER_05: And like, and I love that shit.
- 46:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he's he's really good.
- 46:38SPEAKER_05: He's really good.
- 46:39SPEAKER_05: Shout out to Ace Move, man.
- 46:41SPEAKER_05: And like Camilo mentioned, that this younger people that I was gonna ask you, any of you, you can take this question.
- 46:46SPEAKER_05: Has there ever been a moment that you looked around and you've ever said to yourself, yo, are we losing value?
- 46:51SPEAKER_05: Do people not give a fuck about the heavy hitters anymore?
- 46:54SPEAKER_05: Did we fall off?
- 46:55SPEAKER_05: Because I've been through those moments and conversations.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: Maybe about eight, eight to ten years ago, yeah.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: The crew was kind of like dying down a little bit.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: And then me and Camelo had a real heart to heart.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: He was like, yo, we gotta get these young kids, man.
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: These young kids are the ones who are gonna take us to the future.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: These young kids are kind of navigating their up and coming.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: And if they don't respect who we are, if they don't know who we are, if they don't fuck with us, we're not gonna keep it.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Not only that, not only that, like like these, yeah, 100%.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: And and and the younger wave, like, not for nothing.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: You know, times are changing quick.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: They I learned a lot from them.
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: I learned from a lot from them.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: Uh uh, I'm gonna give you an example.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Uh like Gordo King, you know, he's on that TikTok heavy hitter.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: Yo, that guy is crazy.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: Gordo King's from Rhode Island, he's a heavy hitter, but he moved out to Miami now.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: He's on TikTok every day.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, yo, how do you do this?
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: How do you do that?
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: Yo, Camillo, you gotta get on every day.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: Look at your following.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay, cool.
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: But I'm trying to learn.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: I don't want to just jump on a fly.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, he's teaching me how to plug this shit up, the lighting, you gotta talk to your audience, la la la.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: All these words, what the fuck does the a coin mean?
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: Like all this crazy shit.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: And then you learn, like, like, but more importantly, when I was telling enough, like, yo, we need these young guys, we need these young guys, but we need the right guys, right?
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: They gotta go through the boot camp.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: Because if they don't give a fuck about the crew and they're not gonna rock like us, then we don't need them because that's just space.
- 48:19SPEAKER_05: No, and then and then, like, no matter what in life, like Enubs, Enough did it himself.
- 48:23SPEAKER_05: You gotta look to the young energy to keep it moving forward, you know what I'm saying?
- 48:26SPEAKER_05: Regardless.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: That's exactly what Enuff did back in the day.
- 48:28SPEAKER_05: That's exactly what Enu did.
- 48:29SPEAKER_05: And I stole that shit from him too.
- 48:30SPEAKER_05: Like, I've always made sure whoever hangs out with me is a little bit younger than me.
- 48:35SPEAKER_05: You could teach me some shit, you know what I'm saying?
- 48:37SPEAKER_05: But at the same time, we'll get into that because we're just saying hello to the world today with this uh introduction, basically.
- 48:42SPEAKER_05: And we're gonna bring all those people in and we're gonna break down everybody's story.
- 48:46SPEAKER_05: So you like Cass said, man, like there's so much more behind this heavyheaded shit than just a bunch of very overly talented people.
- 48:53SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 48:55SPEAKER_05: But what I've always told people is, yo, look, this is something you guys want to be down with.
- 48:59SPEAKER_05: This is something that you guys see, this is something that, and you know what's crazy when they age you, when you're like 40 plus now, and someone goes, yo, miss, since I was eight years old, and you'll be like, shut the fuck up, man.
- 49:09SPEAKER_05: Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 49:11SPEAKER_05: But I think that's so dope because it shows you how many people have been paying attention, yo.
- 49:15SPEAKER_04: I actually like that.
- 49:16SPEAKER_04: You know why I like that?
- 49:17SPEAKER_04: Because I always see that as, yo, that was me telling, yo, yo, bro, when I used to, you know, and and I kinda and it kind of brings me back to to the love of why you started doing it, right?
- 49:28SPEAKER_04: When somebody comes and they tell you, yo, bro, I've been listening to you since I was 10 years old or whatever, you're like, yo, that's I'm actually like, yo, that's actually pretty dope, bro.
- 49:36SPEAKER_04: Like, you don't think once you're and this took me up until now to realize it, when you're in it, you don't actually think about it like that.
- 49:44SPEAKER_04: You don't think about the time, you don't think about what you're doing, you just do your thing and you move on to the next, you do your thing, you move on to the next.
- 49:48SPEAKER_04: You don't think about who you're impacting or who's listening or who's learning from you or whatever, whatever.
- 49:53SPEAKER_04: So then when you actually see that embodied, yeah, it's actually pretty cool because I still live in the I still live in the moment where I see like an enough or I see like uh you know a capri or whatever, and uh, or a grandmaster flash.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: Every time I see flash, I'm like, yo, Flash, bro.
- 50:07SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, you will, I I used to, oh my god, the I have I still have the video.
- 50:11SPEAKER_04: I watch it on YouTube every other day.
- 50:12SPEAKER_04: But then when you see somebody doing that to you, you're like, Me, nah, get out of here.
- 50:17SPEAKER_04: What are you talking about?
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: It's a reality.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: That's the reality when you see 21, 22 year olds, they're young.
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so they look at it.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: And yo, let me tell you something right now.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: That shit don't bother me at all.
- 50:29SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: Like, like that shit.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: I'm like, you know, and some of them crack funny jokes, like, you know, be like, what's up?
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: Um, like, you know, what's up?
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, you're oh head, okay, no doubt.
- 50:40SPEAKER_00: But you wanna you wanna be me.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: Like, like, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: And I'm cool with that.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: Like, that's that that, you know, I don't know, man.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: Just that shit never got to me like that.
- 50:50SPEAKER_05: Nah, because at the same time, bro, we all have our OGs.
- 50:53SPEAKER_05: We all have somebody that back in the day, at one point, one time, you was looking at, like, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:58SPEAKER_05: And yeah, we all went through that shit.
- 51:00SPEAKER_04: Like, and you know, you know what always cool was also, books, real quick, what's also interesting about it, is that whenever that happens, one of my favorite questions to ask is, all right, cool.
- 51:10SPEAKER_04: So what tell me what you think about it.
- 51:12SPEAKER_04: Like, tell me what you think about, like, how do you see me?
- 51:14SPEAKER_04: How do you what do you think about that?
- 51:15SPEAKER_04: And they're gonna tell you some some things that you never thought about yourself, right?
- 51:20SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 51:20SPEAKER_04: They're gonna point out some things that are good and some things that are bad, and some things that you just never thought about.
- 51:25SPEAKER_04: Like, oh, you know what?
- 51:27SPEAKER_04: You're right, you're right, you're right.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: Now, and then at the same time, that's how you learn from you know the younger, the younger generation.
- 51:34SPEAKER_04: How they see you, how they perceive you is probably what it really is.
- 51:38SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 51:39SPEAKER_05: No, no, and then E, I know you did it with us, obviously, because we were uh younger than you, but like once you saw that that shit worked out, was that type of your angle?
- 51:47SPEAKER_05: Like, I always gotta keep let these motherfuckers keep me young.
- 51:51SPEAKER_03: No, not really.
- 51:53SPEAKER_03: Honestly, that's not that's not really my take on it.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: It was more like I fucked with you guys individually as people, right?
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: You guys were good people, and I saw that.
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: But just watching you guys do things, because even just the DJing aspect, I could break down things that are different from cast and Camilo, right?
- 52:11SPEAKER_03: When I grew up DJing, you learn how to get the intro of the record, you cut it up a little bit, you let the verse go, maybe the hook, maybe a bridge, and then you kind of like let the second verse go, and then but the records were good and they were long enough, right?
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: And that's how you played.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: But then in the club, I watched Camillo, and then he would do the total opposite.
- 52:33SPEAKER_03: He played from the beginning, and then if it didn't work, he would be like, How about this?
- 52:38SPEAKER_03: How about that?
- 52:39SPEAKER_03: And he he was reading the crowd, and he was like, Okay, if that record didn't work, this one's gonna work.
- 52:44SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 52:44SPEAKER_03: And I love that about Camillo.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: I thought I was very energetic and fascinating.
- 52:48SPEAKER_03: The thing that blew my mind with Cass was Cass would start from the bridge or start from the hook, and I'd be like, yo, what's this guy doing?
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: Like he took it, and this is way before Serato, y'all.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: Way before Q points, way before whatever.
- 53:05SPEAKER_03: So he literally on vinyl was going to like the bridge of a record and starting the record from the bridge.
- 53:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and he'd be like, No one starts the fucking record like that, right?
- 53:14SPEAKER_03: But Cass used to.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: And here's the here's the other thing that fucked me up with Cass One.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: I always gotta say, right?
- 53:21SPEAKER_00: The backwards show DJ Cass one back in the days.
- 53:25SPEAKER_00: He started with vinyl, but this motherfucker used to DJ backwards.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: Meaning this side of the record, he still does.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: Five still does still do correct.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: He still does.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: He DJs this side of the record is plain, but the faders on that side, and that shit fucking fucks me up to this day.
- 53:43SPEAKER_03: Hamster stuff.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: One day, right, hamster for anybody.
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: The the young boys don't know what hamster is nowadays, but the DJ culture knows.
- 53:52SPEAKER_00: One day I got on after him, and he just got off park.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: I got on, he didn't think about it.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: I didn't think about it.
- 53:58SPEAKER_00: I got on this shit like this, and I'm like, what the fuck is going on here?
- 54:01SPEAKER_00: And I'm here stuck, stuck.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: Home boy cats one walks away, and I'm like, yo, and I'm I'm no music coming out.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: I'm fucked up, and I could not figure this out.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: And I I'm on the fly, like, and then come back, he just fixed it in two seconds.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: Like, this motherfucker.
- 54:17SPEAKER_03: Yo, that happened to me on the radio a bunch of times live.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, brought you down.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: Five, four, three, and you're gonna have to tell us, yeah.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're gonna have to tell us how to fuck and why you started DJing like that.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: Because that shit to me is fucking.
- 54:34SPEAKER_05: And the best part is a lot of people were victim because of that, because of Cas one.
- 54:37SPEAKER_05: God rest his soul.
- 54:38SPEAKER_05: Mr.
- 54:39SPEAKER_05: C also went through that shit with Cass One, too.
- 54:41SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 54:47SPEAKER_03: But shit.
- 54:48SPEAKER_04: God, it's it's a real simple story.
- 54:49SPEAKER_04: Like, why you know there's a lot, first of all, in my defense, there's a lot of DJs that DJ hamster style.
- 54:55SPEAKER_04: It's not just me.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: I'm not the first one to do it.
- 54:58SPEAKER_04: I'm not the last one to do it.
- 55:00SPEAKER_04: It's still rare.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: It's rare.
- 55:02SPEAKER_04: It's like it's rare.
- 55:03SPEAKER_04: It is rare.
- 55:03SPEAKER_04: I give it to you.
- 55:04SPEAKER_04: In our world, in the radio world, and in the it's rare.
- 55:07SPEAKER_04: Like it's more like a battle style DJ thing.
- 55:09SPEAKER_04: But it's definitely a battle style.
- 55:11SPEAKER_04: It's yeah, it wasn't for me, it wasn't that for me.
- 55:14SPEAKER_04: My it's so simple for me because for me, I didn't know any DJs.
- 55:17SPEAKER_04: When I first started DJing, I don't know personally, I didn't know any DJs.
- 55:21SPEAKER_04: It was just me in my room, like, wow, how do they do that?
- 55:24SPEAKER_04: And me trying to figure it out.
- 55:26SPEAKER_04: And so what I had, I had one turntable and one mixer, and I just plugged it up how I thought it went, but it was backwards, but I didn't know it was backwards.
- 55:34SPEAKER_03: My man, I didn't know it was backwards down the hill from your fucking house.
- 55:38SPEAKER_04: I didn't know, I didn't know it was backwards until until I actually met another DJ, right?
- 55:44SPEAKER_04: So, like for example, I guess like I started I started messing around with turntables and DJ when I was like 12, 13 years old.
- 55:50SPEAKER_04: I didn't actually interact with other DJs until I was like 15.
- 55:55SPEAKER_04: So I'm so I'm two, three years in the game already doing my thing.
- 55:59SPEAKER_04: And you know, I'm I'm at I'm like, for example, I go into Mark's house, I'm at his house, and I'm like, okay, cool.
- 56:04SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, yo, why is this backwards?
- 56:08SPEAKER_04: I thought he was backwards.
- 56:10SPEAKER_04: I'm like, yo, why is this backwards, bro?
- 56:12SPEAKER_04: And they're like, no, it's a for you backwards.
- 56:15SPEAKER_04: And then, you know, that's how I realized, but by then it was too late.
- 56:18SPEAKER_04: I wasn't gonna, I was sorry, guys, I wasn't gonna try again.
- 56:21SPEAKER_04: I'm already programmed in my head to do it backwards, so that's what it's gonna be for the rest of time.
- 56:25SPEAKER_04: It's not gonna be already three years in and you're done.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but when you walk into so holla, holla, holla.
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: When you walk into certain spots and they got a fucking controller, right?
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: Or anything that doesn't have a switch.
- 56:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, what the fuck you do?
- 56:39SPEAKER_04: For the crossfader in the middle and DJ up and down.
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: So that's what you're doing.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: That's what you're doing to this day.
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: To this day.
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: Like if I walk into if I walk into a spot, what you walk into Madaka right now, it's a fucking controller.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: What do you you DJ up and down?
- 56:55SPEAKER_04: No, some some of the controllers have the switch.
- 56:57SPEAKER_04: Like you could you could assign on the controllers.
- 56:59SPEAKER_04: But there have been mixes where I've walked in and you can't do it.
- 57:02SPEAKER_04: Like for exactly like for example, the techniques mixer, they used to have that switch.
- 57:06SPEAKER_04: So if I would walk in anywhere and they had that, I just had to go up and down or try to do it the regular, the regular way, but that would never work.
- 57:14SPEAKER_04: That's kind of like how you doing backwards just to get your head.
- 57:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I just go up and down with the faders.
- 57:18SPEAKER_04: I cut up and down, up and down, up and down, back and forth, up and down.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 57:23SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 57:23SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 57:24SPEAKER_04: It's like the knobs.
- 57:24SPEAKER_04: Remember when we used to walk in a club and had the knobs?
- 57:26SPEAKER_05: Club exit.
- 57:27SPEAKER_05: When you used to walk the club exit, you had to deal with that back in the day.
- 57:29SPEAKER_05: You had to be.
- 57:30SPEAKER_04: Some of the clubs had the knobs back in the day.
- 57:32SPEAKER_04: Like I remember the first time I saw knobs, I was like, what is this?
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: Yo, I learned on that shit, bro.
- 57:37SPEAKER_00: Like I watched Sablanca, which was my house, my first little gig in Queens around the way.
- 57:42SPEAKER_00: They only had a Yuri mixer, right?
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: And that's all, and that's I was like, oh shit.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: And the car, that's how all knob.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: And let me tell you something to this day, because I learned off of that, I had to was forced.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: It's the best fucking mixing blending that I I can't compare to any mixer, bro.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: It's crazy.
- 58:00SPEAKER_00: I used to go to the tunnel and watch Riz and Flex and all them on that Yuri shit.
- 58:06SPEAKER_03: I'm like, Yeah, Clark Kent was nice on cutting up on the Uri, like he would take the knob and still cut.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but but you know, they were forced, they were forced because that was all that they had.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: And just like Cast One, you I mean, you learned you connected the wrong way, but you were forced to learn that win.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: That was it.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 58:21SPEAKER_05: No, because at some places they were um they were just set up for house music and club music, so that's how they DJ.
- 58:26SPEAKER_05: So if you stepped in that room, because I remember going with Precise to these uh afties at 5 a.m.
- 58:32SPEAKER_05: and he's playing house and he's just fucking that shit up, yo.
- 58:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like I couldn't believe that because I was used to watching you guys, and precise is here like, holy shit, man.
- 58:43SPEAKER_05: The knobs, yeah, yeah.
- 58:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 58:45SPEAKER_05: And I used to bother people with that.
- 58:46SPEAKER_05: I'll be like, son, if you can't DJ with knobs, I mean, I don't know, man.
- 58:49SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 58:50SPEAKER_04: I yo, I took it one step further, bro.
- 58:53SPEAKER_04: I'll be like, yeah, if you can't do the knobs and the rubber bands, I don't know if I could I don't know, bro.
- 58:57SPEAKER_04: The rubber bands, bro.
- 58:59SPEAKER_04: You can't do knobs and rubber bands.
- 59:01SPEAKER_04: I don't know, bro.
- 59:02SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: Motherfuckers don't know about rubber bands.
- 59:04SPEAKER_05: That's the thing of the pattern, that's extinct.
- 59:07SPEAKER_05: This is why we're here.
- 59:08SPEAKER_05: This is why we're standing in front of these microphones and cameras, because to show people, like, bro, it's not just the crew, there's so much behind it.
- 59:16SPEAKER_05: And and and I hope that we can bring in this audience, you know what I mean?
- 59:19SPEAKER_05: Like, to that's been waiting for this.
- 59:21SPEAKER_05: Nobody's doing this.
- 59:22SPEAKER_05: Nobody's doing this.
- 59:23SPEAKER_05: That's what we're doing right now.
- 59:24SPEAKER_05: So I just hope that these little titbits, these little stories and these little gems that we're sharing with people actually resonates, you know what I'm saying, the way it's supposed to.
- 59:33SPEAKER_05: And like Camelo, you all you are enough, Cast myself, and then along the way, we're gonna bring in uh the heavy-headed crew.
- 59:40SPEAKER_05: So you can see, yo, like I promise you guys, like, we're doing so much that you don't know about, and individually, these people, we all have our individual story of how we got here, how we've been doing, how we survived, how we fell off, how we came back.
- 59:54SPEAKER_05: And I think it's an angle that no one's touching, especially dissecting this crew, which is the best motherfucking crew in the entire planet.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_05: I don't know about too many.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: I hope it drops.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: You like that, right?
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: You like that.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_03: Is my man DJ Cumber.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_03: Those are whites.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_05: And and I am an advocate of never changing the drop.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_05: I don't I don't recognize none of these new drops.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_05: That's the only one I recognize, bro.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_05: A hundred percent.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_05: So look, we're here, we're gonna come sit with you, we're gonna come talk to you, we're gonna welcome you to the heavy hitter land, the heavy hitter world.
