- 1:07Speaker 1: let's dive in. Tell them who we got today. So
- 1:09Speaker 1: we have a former NFL legend, mister Delaney Walker. Welcome,
- 1:15Speaker 1: to the show box. Thanks for having y'all. The legends.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm trying to get like y'all, so thanks for having you. Know, man,
- 1:20Speaker 1: this is when you make it, When you make it
- 1:21Speaker 1: to the league. You know, look, I got the legend.
- 1:23Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, you got it. Uh, But
- 1:25Speaker 1: the way it was explaining to me, you know, talking
- 1:27Speaker 1: to shout out Tracy Perlman, anyone that made it to
- 1:32Speaker 1: the league, you are a legend. You know, they got
- 1:34Speaker 1: the legends limb. Whether you played one year, whether you
- 1:37Speaker 1: played teen years, Hall of Fame, no Pro Bowls, all
- 1:40Speaker 1: pro no like, it's we all legends in our in
- 1:42Speaker 1: our in their eyes, and I legit trying to call
- 1:46Speaker 1: everybody a legend. So I'm you made it, brother, whether
- 1:49Speaker 1: you thought you had a good career not not so
- 1:51Speaker 1: well like you you made something what is the top
- 1:54Speaker 1: point point zero one percent? I don't know what I made.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I played strong, says you out of covers. Got a lot.
- 2:00Speaker 1: So I know Delaney Walker really well because of how
- 2:04Speaker 1: fast he was. This man's speed was in pec West
- 2:06Speaker 1: for all tight ends. He's one of the fastest one
- 2:09Speaker 1: in the league for many many years. Yeah, probably still
- 2:11Speaker 1: faster than eighty percent of them now, and so that
- 2:13Speaker 1: was always the biggest threat with him. I would allow
- 2:15Speaker 1: Delaney to catch the out route or anything all day
- 2:18Speaker 1: long because you're the only thing you didn't want to
- 2:20Speaker 1: do was be right beside good at yeah, because then
- 2:23Speaker 1: he leaving you. So that was what you're always known for.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Should be always four four four or four. So I
- 2:31Speaker 1: read it was in high school. I don't know if
- 2:33Speaker 1: it was high school of college. You won one hundred
- 2:35Speaker 1: meter right, yes? And what you didn't know that? What
- 2:38Speaker 1: was that time? Ten? Two ten two? How heavy were
- 2:43Speaker 1: you running a ten? Two? I was two ten. I
- 2:45Speaker 1: was two hundred and ten pounds for like, it's my
- 2:48Speaker 1: sophomore year. Al so I wasn't fair playing football, but
- 2:53Speaker 1: two I was two hundred and ten. Everyone else was
- 2:56Speaker 1: smaller than me, and I took it every time. So
- 2:59Speaker 1: talk could we? I want you to give us a
- 3:00Speaker 1: little bit of because I know you. I watched your
- 3:03Speaker 1: whole career. I watched you when San Francisco, when you
- 3:06Speaker 1: start out your career your most special teams guy. Then
- 3:08Speaker 1: you started getting some more catches and really standing out,
- 3:11Speaker 1: but it was most of you had burning davids in
- 3:13Speaker 1: front of you. So that's why you didn't get all
- 3:15Speaker 1: the reps that you really were able to shine when
- 3:17Speaker 1: you moved on to Tennessee. But I want to specifically
- 3:20Speaker 1: talk about your time in San Francisco. You were at
- 3:22Speaker 1: that game in two thousand and eleven in the playoffs
- 3:26Speaker 1: when the New Orleans States traveled to San Francisco. We
- 3:30Speaker 1: lost a game. Let's just get it out of the way.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But what I want to talk about they had a
- 3:34Speaker 1: whole bunch of turnovers. It was bad they had it
- 3:37Speaker 1: was great. Whatever y'all got scared. I want to talk
- 3:39Speaker 1: about that environment. That was the best environment I'd ever
- 3:44Speaker 1: been a part of. And they literally had what was
- 3:47Speaker 1: his name, the future? Your future was playing Tony Montown
- 3:50Speaker 1: every time they scored, and it was a lot of
- 3:52Speaker 1: touchdown that game. So please take me into that. Tell
- 3:55Speaker 1: me so I didn't who set that up? Jim Harball.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So like when Jim Harball came in, we will play music.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I know every want to play music at practice, but
- 4:03Speaker 1: he heard that Tony Montage. He was like, what song
- 4:06Speaker 1: is that? We like? That's Tony Montany Like I like
- 4:08Speaker 1: that because when that came up all and then he
- 4:14Speaker 1: came into the special team's room one day, it was like,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you want to play that for kickoff and see how
- 4:18Speaker 1: it goes with the crowd, And were like, let's do it.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And then they start playing and we be dancing and
- 4:22Speaker 1: then a kickoff dance, just going nuts, pointing at the
- 4:25Speaker 1: other team like yeah, I'm getting oh, I would hit up.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Crowd going nuts that kickoff go off, we gonna smack them.
- 4:36Speaker 1: They still playing Tony Moteen, everyone getting hyped on the sideline,
- 4:40Speaker 1: and it was just the atmosphere that they brown the
- 4:43Speaker 1: crowd brown the hyped us up because every time they
- 4:46Speaker 1: heard that song, they would stand up start screaming. We
- 4:49Speaker 1: all pointing at him. We all were not even in
- 4:51Speaker 1: the right places. And because he's like, just just run everywhere,
- 4:57Speaker 1: you know, we'll bix it up. So it was just
- 4:59Speaker 1: it was in they just gave us so much freedom,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and I think that's what the crowd felt, that energy
- 5:04Speaker 1: of that freedom. But it was Jim Warball. He brought
- 5:06Speaker 1: that to the teams. So they didn't just play this
- 5:09Speaker 1: older loudspeakers in this playoff can p Nut Future was
- 5:12Speaker 1: on top of the San Francisco dug out because it
- 5:14Speaker 1: was by the Cample Stick, so it was like he
- 5:17Speaker 1: was on top of the dugout and like, I'm literally
- 5:21Speaker 1: like watching this day. They kicked the ball off, I'm like, hello,
- 5:25Speaker 1: it's this future, like really there and they started playing
- 5:27Speaker 1: it the crowd what was going but no, and then
- 5:32Speaker 1: we almost go down there, We almost go down there
- 5:35Speaker 1: and score. We get a fumble San Francisco and back
- 5:38Speaker 1: down in scores. Next you know, it's right back again.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And this Tony Montana, I mean, I was really low
- 5:43Speaker 1: key jam in the whole. Yeah. It was that lit bro.
- 5:45Speaker 1: It was. It was on fire. That was literally one
- 5:48Speaker 1: of the best experiences. What were y'all, don lost? What
- 5:50Speaker 1: were yall doing? So, what were y'all doing? It was
- 5:52Speaker 1: only on social teams, only on kily, only on y'all
- 5:56Speaker 1: doing on the scene, y'all y'all intimidated? Was y'all scared? Well, no,
- 6:01Speaker 1: now we weren't scared. It was definitely, but it was
- 6:03Speaker 1: it was a different environment. So early on we were
- 6:05Speaker 1: kind of taken back back. Yeah, but then once we
- 6:07Speaker 1: started scoring a little bit too, and then start going
- 6:09Speaker 1: back and forth. At this point, everybody's like just yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 1: like everybody watched the other team and you're like, oh yeah,
- 6:16Speaker 1: they can't hike too, Let's go. That's the best part
- 6:19Speaker 1: was the fullback of ditson back. Oh yeah, yeah, I'm
- 6:24Speaker 1: like God, he was always run and he ran as
- 6:26Speaker 1: my boy. Anybody, anybody, I'm like at one point in time,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I was out there when I'm like, bro, you own
- 6:31Speaker 1: your special teams, t me like this, but yeah, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: get it. It was a great game. I just that
- 6:38Speaker 1: was one of the biggest moments. Uh. And I shared
- 6:40Speaker 1: that with you, and I wanted to share that with
- 6:42Speaker 1: everybody else because I was a great environment everybody. But
- 6:46Speaker 1: you know, you're not the first person that told me.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Everyone but like, yo, you thrown back when you first
- 6:51Speaker 1: come out, and we always kick off first because we
- 6:53Speaker 1: want to let you know what it is about to be,
- 6:57Speaker 1: and we're about the dads and the whole crowd. Every
- 7:00Speaker 1: might be like yo, we wanted to do that. We
- 7:02Speaker 1: used to get back home like no, that was amazing.
- 7:04Speaker 1: They talked like they kickoff team was insane, just hearing
- 7:08Speaker 1: the music telling my time. But when they broke him
- 7:10Speaker 1: out for y'all, and then it was like we actually
- 7:12Speaker 1: had don't even French future and then everybody was like
- 7:17Speaker 1: what I was ya, We didn't know. It was shocked. No,
- 7:24Speaker 1: we didn't even know, Like, no, they ain't future, that's
- 7:26Speaker 1: there the boom. It was like, oh, we're about to
- 7:28Speaker 1: beat them. That's just no doubt now about I'm getting shill.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I't know why we lost, the fact that it was
- 7:36Speaker 1: a surprise for the guys that it was disappointing. It
- 7:40Speaker 1: was the playoffs we lost. The only thing that was
- 7:41Speaker 1: good that came out of that was my oldest daughter
- 7:44Speaker 1: was born literally in the second quarter. I did not
- 7:47Speaker 1: know that. So it was it was sadly, no, I
- 7:51Speaker 1: mean it was it was when when we the last
- 7:54Speaker 1: touchdown and Bernard Davis like, no time for the dog.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I mean, talk good about talk good? You got you
- 8:03Speaker 1: got more? You got more? Couple of banxt question question,
- 8:10Speaker 1: all right, so you really retired to two years ago?
- 8:14Speaker 1: Three years three years ago, three years ago? Still lately
- 8:17Speaker 1: you still look like you were in football shape. Uh.
- 8:21Speaker 1: We got our second career. We are in our second
- 8:23Speaker 1: half right now. It was rumored, you know, I can't
- 8:26Speaker 1: confirm it, but you're in the driver right you You
- 8:29Speaker 1: like the black uh fast cheers what's his name, Ben
- 8:34Speaker 1: ven Diesel. Yeah, you're like a black ven Diesel. So
- 8:37Speaker 1: I tell me about the whole or you could be
- 8:39Speaker 1: like Tyrese. His name is Roman. Actually black ven Diesel
- 8:45Speaker 1: sound better. I agree with that. Actually accident swollen stupid, right, yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 1: I agree with So what kind of driving are you
- 8:53Speaker 1: doing right now? I drag race? You drag race? Now?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Tell how did you even get into drag racing. Well,
- 9:00Speaker 1: like we said earlier, I grew up in Los Angeles, California. Uh,
- 9:04Speaker 1: then I moved to Pomona, and Pomona has the Los
- 9:06Speaker 1: Angeles County fairt one of the biggest fairs that's out there.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But we also have the Pomona Speedway and that's one
- 9:12Speaker 1: of the biggest drag tracks you can go to. So
- 9:15Speaker 1: growing up in that area, we used to go down
- 9:18Speaker 1: to the Ferret and I used to see these drag races,
- 9:20Speaker 1: racing Carney right, Oh, I want to try. I want
- 9:22Speaker 1: to see that. So I had a couple of friends
- 9:24Speaker 1: and then who does it too? And we'll go to
- 9:26Speaker 1: these races and watch these guys race. But then in
- 9:29Speaker 1: my neighborhood, cats had the five point z yeah man
- 9:32Speaker 1: roles and stuff. So I grew up seeing fast cars.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Um and I used to you know, debble and dabble
- 9:38Speaker 1: growing up for the cars and stuff. Yeah, so yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I didn't. I used to do crazy stuff when I
- 9:47Speaker 1: was kid, but you know, football was my passion, so
- 9:49Speaker 1: I took that serious and obviously it got to me.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It got me where I'm at, and that's I'm able
- 9:54Speaker 1: to buy these cars too, race because it costs a
- 9:57Speaker 1: lot of money to drag race, and uh, I did
- 10:00Speaker 1: just took over me once I retired. I'm like, I mean,
- 10:02Speaker 1: so are you doing stock cars? Stock? Oh? Okay, okay,
- 10:06Speaker 1: So what's been like one of them? Explain that explain
- 10:08Speaker 1: the difference between stock and pro stock. So pro stock
- 10:11Speaker 1: is more I use a stock engine pretty much, but
- 10:15Speaker 1: it's got some pro mods on there. So I got
- 10:17Speaker 1: a three forty one with a two hundred shot of NAS.
- 10:20Speaker 1: That's the engine, right, that's the engine. Three forty one
- 10:22Speaker 1: is the engine, and then the NAZ of the button,
- 10:24Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Yeah, so two shot and
- 10:29Speaker 1: I can raise pretty much any kind of car that's
- 10:31Speaker 1: like a normal car that got us racing set up. Yeah,
- 10:35Speaker 1: so that's pretty much. One body is your card out
- 10:38Speaker 1: of nineteen sixty nine Dodge Dark. Uh that's a great. Yeah,
- 10:41Speaker 1: that's fully dragged out. But the one I race a
- 10:44Speaker 1: lot is a track Hawk. It's a two thousand and
- 10:46Speaker 1: eighteen track Hawk. Yeah, Jeep track Hawk, yea thousand horse
- 10:50Speaker 1: powers and a hundred but you yeah, I put a
- 10:54Speaker 1: magnus in blower on their twenty five fifty. It's tune
- 10:58Speaker 1: on e eighty five fuel jus Man headers two inch pipes.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I mean when you you know, when I started, it's
- 11:05Speaker 1: like drafts, like, yo, that's a Geep. I'm like, yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 1: I know, but that it's all well dry. I love
- 11:13Speaker 1: driving that, but the drag cards. But when I really
- 11:16Speaker 1: get into bracket racing, so it's two types of racing.
- 11:19Speaker 1: With the Jeep, I can just race, you like, if
- 11:21Speaker 1: you have the track, we can race for a thousand dollars. Yeah.
- 11:24Speaker 1: So um, the nineteen sixty and sixty nine dart it's
- 11:28Speaker 1: more of a bracket race. So I had to have
- 11:29Speaker 1: the same time constantly to win black and it's consistent.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And what's that time? My time is a five four
- 11:35Speaker 1: So it's a five forty one, so high seconds instance,
- 11:39Speaker 1: it's an eighth eighth of the month a mom All right. Yeah,
- 11:43Speaker 1: So so what initially attracted you to the drag racing.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Is it the sound because if you've never been doing
- 11:49Speaker 1: draft s like and that is, man, it is. It
- 11:54Speaker 1: is a sexiness to it. It is. It's something that
- 11:56Speaker 1: like get you because you don't get that feeling anywhere else. No,
- 11:59Speaker 1: there's no other sound, like, there's no other feeling like
- 12:01Speaker 1: And I've been in there down there and they're like, oh,
- 12:04Speaker 1: you might want these air pills and I'm like, I
- 12:06Speaker 1: don't know that. One time, I'm like I need those
- 12:09Speaker 1: air plus. Yeah, blow your ear out because the pipes
- 12:12Speaker 1: is coming out the side. So all you getting is
- 12:14Speaker 1: everything I know. I'm just sitting there like, there they go,
- 12:17Speaker 1: because you gotta get your burnout. You do your burnout, yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 1: slide out, and that's what we all want to see.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I think it's just the feeling of, you know, competing. Man,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I don't know. I like everything about like the smelling gas, like, yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 1: if my garage smelled like a hunting because I got
- 12:32Speaker 1: all racing feel when you're going there, it's like if
- 12:35Speaker 1: something happy. I'm blowing the whole the whole neighborhood because
- 12:38Speaker 1: I got my name's had gas leading it. Yeah, I
- 12:41Speaker 1: had engine feeling it. Yeah, so the whole house was old,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and that's why I always tell people, Yeah, I gotta
- 12:46Speaker 1: be careful in my gruge because I got tire stacked
- 12:48Speaker 1: up to the ceiler. I got because I got changed
- 12:50Speaker 1: tires all the time. Yeah, I got uh taints of gas.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I pumped my own gas so into my cars. Um.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I think it's just the smell of the gas that atmosphere,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and then the variety of people, you know what I mean.
- 13:03Speaker 1: It's so many different kinds of people, and they don't
- 13:06Speaker 1: carry it of your color and anything. They just care
- 13:08Speaker 1: about this racing. And I think I just like that
- 13:10Speaker 1: because it reminds me of football when I with all
- 13:12Speaker 1: our brothers and I'm playing because we all different, we
- 13:15Speaker 1: all come from different backgrounds, but we played this game
- 13:18Speaker 1: because we love it. And it's the same way when
- 13:20Speaker 1: I drive race. So I think that's what that just
- 13:22Speaker 1: drawn me in. Stay tuned in. We'll be right back
- 13:26Speaker 1: after a quick break. So I know you're one of
- 13:30Speaker 1: the first former players to ever drive. Tell me about
- 13:34Speaker 1: like one of your worst crashes, because I assume you
- 13:36Speaker 1: have crashed. It was just this just happened like three
- 13:40Speaker 1: months ago, a crash. Yeah, Yeah, I saved it from
- 13:45Speaker 1: hitting the other person and it looked it really bad,
- 13:50Speaker 1: but it ain't as bad as it was. But you know,
- 13:53Speaker 1: I just crashed and like I said, but I got
- 13:56Speaker 1: all the equipment off, so it didn't really it didn't
- 13:59Speaker 1: affect me. The car was messed up. And that's kind
- 14:01Speaker 1: of where it goes because I don't have a sponsor.
- 14:04Speaker 1: So whenever I crashed, you something breath, I gotta fix it. Yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 1: that's the only hard part with with crashing. But you
- 14:11Speaker 1: don't want to crash. But I always tell people it's
- 14:13Speaker 1: two types of drivers, ones that crash the ones that
- 14:16Speaker 1: are gonna crash. It's just that's just the first part.
- 14:18Speaker 1: It's the same thing with rotting motors. Yeah, same when
- 14:20Speaker 1: amos I'm pushing this car to the top of his
- 14:23Speaker 1: level with that seconds, you know what I mean. So
- 14:26Speaker 1: you don't always hook, and that's what we tell people.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Don't always hook. And when I mean by hook, when
- 14:30Speaker 1: the car just like drops down and takes off. Yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 1: sometimes you get that. And then if you don't know
- 14:36Speaker 1: how to corrected, that's when ship happy. So the last track,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I broke my axle right off the jump. I got
- 14:45Speaker 1: it off on them. I can I always peek the
- 14:47Speaker 1: sea where he as, yeah, yeah, just and when I
- 14:50Speaker 1: got I'm like, oh, I'm ahead of them, and because
- 14:53Speaker 1: I kind of ease on, then I get on it.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So once I got on it, I felt the car
- 14:58Speaker 1: jumped dirt back and then it turns towards the wall.
- 15:01Speaker 1: So I hooked it. And when it was so I
- 15:03Speaker 1: was so far in front of them, I'm like, damn,
- 15:05Speaker 1: I'm about to hit them. And then that's you can
- 15:07Speaker 1: see me stump in the brakes. It's a video out
- 15:09Speaker 1: of and like, I stumped the brakes because you never
- 15:12Speaker 1: step on the brake till if you step on the brakes,
- 15:14Speaker 1: it's like driving into snow, you're gonna just shot. Here.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I sky it out, so I stumped them just enough
- 15:20Speaker 1: I miss him. Then I come back this way because
- 15:24Speaker 1: I was about to crash into the wall. So I
- 15:26Speaker 1: get off falling the wall and I start coming back
- 15:28Speaker 1: towards my lane and I turned back and I smacked
- 15:31Speaker 1: my back end and the whole car shut off and
- 15:34Speaker 1: all you see is the car rolling down the track.
- 15:37Speaker 1: But because I was trying to start it, but they
- 15:39Speaker 1: went into Lepmo for some reason, I'm like, damn, this shit.
- 15:41Speaker 1: It marits now people out here and I just crashed.
- 15:48Speaker 1: And then you see all the people on the fire,
- 15:50Speaker 1: people on the truck coming down like trying to make
- 15:52Speaker 1: sure I'm good. I get out like I'm great. They're
- 15:55Speaker 1: like you sure. I'm like I'm good. They're like, we
- 15:57Speaker 1: gotta get the car off the off the track. Cann't drive.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I'm like, look at the wheel of wheels being out
- 16:04Speaker 1: like all the way out. I'm like, yeah, we can
- 16:08Speaker 1: drive it. So I drive it. Don't know, we drive
- 16:10Speaker 1: it out, put it to the side. Everyone coming because
- 16:13Speaker 1: they know who I am. Like, that's the way one.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Everybody like, man, we got it. Don't feel we got it.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Don't feel that was the craziest thing we ever saw.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You saved it. You don't was hit old buddy. I'm like, yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 1: I'm I'm not like I'm calm. They like, why are
- 16:26Speaker 1: you so calm? Like you just I'm like, man, I
- 16:28Speaker 1: don't know. It was like it's normal for me, Like
- 16:31Speaker 1: playing in the NFL sometimes it helps when we do
- 16:34Speaker 1: things like that because we calm in certain situations, you
- 16:37Speaker 1: know what I mean. So that's all it was. I
- 16:39Speaker 1: was just being calming, got it. Told people like you're
- 16:42Speaker 1: gonna follow on your insurance. I'm like, man, I can't
- 16:45Speaker 1: follow it so much, like they're gonna see that I
- 16:48Speaker 1: crashed at the drag track and try to sue me
- 16:50Speaker 1: for fraud, like like so that had happened, but that yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I am the one of the only dudes that race
- 16:58Speaker 1: that's at that a football or athlete. So and now
- 17:02Speaker 1: that you're there, do you do you still get the
- 17:05Speaker 1: same respect or at you got a place? Where where
- 17:08Speaker 1: are you trying to get to? What is your goal?
- 17:10Speaker 1: I want to hopefully I can't try to go prone
- 17:13Speaker 1: get some sponsors, and so you want the stickers on
- 17:16Speaker 1: the I want all that I want. That's a big deal.
- 17:19Speaker 1: It's like it's a big deal. You know what I'm
- 17:20Speaker 1: being I'm being paid to do it instead of paying
- 17:23Speaker 1: out of my pocket. Yeah. Right, So how many how
- 17:25Speaker 1: many I guess how many wins do you have to
- 17:27Speaker 1: get to actually try to get sponsor? You got to
- 17:29Speaker 1: get points. So you got to build up points and
- 17:32Speaker 1: explain the point and explain the points system. It's just
- 17:34Speaker 1: like so every bracket race you win, they give you
- 17:37Speaker 1: a certain point system. It depends on what what circuit
- 17:40Speaker 1: you in, and then they build up them points through
- 17:42Speaker 1: the year. And then at that end of the year,
- 17:45Speaker 1: that championship happens and then you race. But all these
- 17:47Speaker 1: guys that stare they seeing you race, they seeing your team,
- 17:50Speaker 1: they're gonna buy into it. But it's like a point
- 17:52Speaker 1: system where you have they I can't explain how to
- 17:55Speaker 1: get that point system up there because I'm barely getting
- 17:59Speaker 1: into it. I'm like rookie to these guys like, yeah,
- 18:02Speaker 1: I'm I'm following with these other man and Sponge like
- 18:05Speaker 1: show me how to do it. Show me, like, you
- 18:06Speaker 1: need to bracket, bracket race more, bracket race more. Because
- 18:09Speaker 1: at first I didn't like bracket racing because you have
- 18:12Speaker 1: to be so consistent, and at that time, I didn't
- 18:15Speaker 1: have the right kind of car, so I'm like, dude,
- 18:17Speaker 1: this is this ain't for me, so I just rather
- 18:19Speaker 1: race cats. But then it like, if you really wanted
- 18:21Speaker 1: to go pro, you need to get your bracket racing on.
- 18:23Speaker 1: So then that's when I win, got the nineteen sixty
- 18:25Speaker 1: nine dollars dark and start building it because everything is consistent.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I know I'm running the eighth is built to run
- 18:32Speaker 1: an eighth. Nothing else. I won't be able to go
- 18:34Speaker 1: pass that eight. It's gonna shut down so and you
- 18:37Speaker 1: got a baby alternator. So every time I pull my
- 18:39Speaker 1: car out, I gotta charge it because it won't start
- 18:42Speaker 1: if you don't. So we got to charge a car
- 18:44Speaker 1: every time we get done racing. And I got a
- 18:48Speaker 1: few bracket race wins, but at the most of the
- 18:50Speaker 1: time I raised people just for hard cash. You talked
- 18:53Speaker 1: about your team. Who's all, isn't it because you gotta
- 18:56Speaker 1: have a crew. You can't. I don't think you're under
- 18:58Speaker 1: the hood, no like that. I would love to know.
- 19:01Speaker 1: All right, you have a team, and how did you
- 19:04Speaker 1: find this team? And I mean, are these are guys
- 19:07Speaker 1: like mechanic friends, you know what I'm saying, Just then
- 19:10Speaker 1: working on my other cars and just building close relationships
- 19:14Speaker 1: with them. And they always like, man, you should you
- 19:16Speaker 1: know you got all these fast cars. Why are you
- 19:18Speaker 1: know what you're doing. I'm like, when I'm there playing football,
- 19:21Speaker 1: trust me, it's going down so karma in Nashville, they
- 19:25Speaker 1: work on all our cards. They have my mechanics. And
- 19:27Speaker 1: then most of my boys are just my my tire guys,
- 19:30Speaker 1: like they wipe my tires. They get me set up,
- 19:32Speaker 1: you know, they give me my helmet because the car
- 19:35Speaker 1: is hot. In the car. It's all men on no
- 19:37Speaker 1: air condition, it's just all engine. So they really much
- 19:40Speaker 1: do everything for me until I lead up to the race,
- 19:43Speaker 1: like pulled me in. So how long have you been
- 19:45Speaker 1: collecting cars? You said? All my cars? Like, are these
- 19:48Speaker 1: like street legal cars or street legal? Most of them
- 19:52Speaker 1: street legal? All of them. Couple them with old school
- 19:54Speaker 1: So I got seven old schools and then the rest
- 19:58Speaker 1: of trucks and in Neword cards. What's your favorite car?
- 20:02Speaker 1: My favorite car? Right, my favorite favorite, favorite old School
- 20:04Speaker 1: because I'm my favorite old school that I don't own
- 20:08Speaker 1: is Lincoln Continell. Okay you shut your side. Yes, I
- 20:17Speaker 1: got a nineteen sixty six black old Black. I just
- 20:21Speaker 1: wrote it, just wrote it, the plea favorite card. But
- 20:25Speaker 1: they want so much because most of the time they
- 20:27Speaker 1: already done up. Every time I come across them, they
- 20:30Speaker 1: be like, man, I'm like, I know the history, but
- 20:33Speaker 1: why don't you trying to see the phone? Yeah, we'll
- 20:36Speaker 1: talk offline. There's a there's a guy that I followed
- 20:39Speaker 1: on Instagram and they got some They got some pretty
- 20:42Speaker 1: good I can I can vouch for him. They were
- 20:45Speaker 1: good people. All he does is Lincoln Coninals. That's the
- 20:49Speaker 1: only he goes from like sixty one to sixty nine.
- 20:52Speaker 1: That's all he has the best though. The sixties is
- 20:55Speaker 1: the best ships. That's all he does. Doors literally, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 1: it's everyone in here game. I can't when we get
- 21:01Speaker 1: off the pot, I'll I'll get you as page. You
- 21:04Speaker 1: can hit them up. Yeah, and see my favorite card
- 21:07Speaker 1: is a muscle card. Okay, So I'm a muscle car guy,
- 21:10Speaker 1: and I like my favorite ones is like a seventy Camaro.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I like the sixty eight fast shock. I mean, like
- 21:19Speaker 1: a fast back, you gotta get fat if you don't.
- 21:23Speaker 1: If you didn't get the fast back, you just played yourself.
- 21:25Speaker 1: You don't have a fast back, then what are you
- 21:27Speaker 1: really doing? What are you doing? Yea? So those are
- 21:30Speaker 1: my two favorites. So I'm not a big Corvette guy. Um,
- 21:34Speaker 1: but I do love the seventy Camaro. Yeah, and I
- 21:37Speaker 1: love the sixty eight fast back. Those are like I mean,
- 21:40Speaker 1: if you go eleanor so, I mean you can't even
- 21:44Speaker 1: get though. Bro know, everyone doing replicas now, everyone's doing
- 21:48Speaker 1: a replica telling the wine actually have a replica of
- 21:51Speaker 1: that card? Oh nice? Yeah, the Eleanori. So we're doing
- 21:55Speaker 1: a like a transition to a star we're trying to
- 21:58Speaker 1: do a new segment right now. Did you know Rome
- 22:02Speaker 1: before today, I'm just playing against just playing against some
- 22:06Speaker 1: perfect When you saw this beautiful young man right here,
- 22:11Speaker 1: how old did you think he was? Yeah? That great hair.
- 22:14Speaker 1: For a very very long time, I just watched it.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I used to look at him on the scholar report
- 22:20Speaker 1: and I'm like, dude, how old is this? I know
- 22:25Speaker 1: he played for whatever, he didn't have great here. Yes,
- 22:28Speaker 1: every y I've seen him playing and watching him and
- 22:32Speaker 1: and just I always had to be Okay, he's probably
- 22:34Speaker 1: gonna be guarding me. Let me see. I'm like, yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 1: I kis you beat this dude? This is this is
- 22:44Speaker 1: exactly why they're gonna do this secent because they literally
- 22:47Speaker 1: like I have had great here with my whole life. Yeah,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I had my whole life. So it's not shocking, but
- 22:54Speaker 1: it is funny though. It's like, man, he got to
- 22:58Speaker 1: be every thirty five, damn that everybody talk to you
- 23:02Speaker 1: look at wrong. He was like damn, I thought he
- 23:03Speaker 1: was like an old school vet. Yeah. I thought he
- 23:05Speaker 1: hadn't been in the game for like ten twelve years
- 23:07Speaker 1: like that. It's just your two brother. Yeah. I was
- 23:10Speaker 1: just like dude. I mean, they go, how old is he?
- 23:13Speaker 1: But then I'm like every time, every time I saying,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I'm like, he always had gray hair. I wonder if
- 23:18Speaker 1: that's just a genetics, like genetically genetically just gray. One
- 23:24Speaker 1: day we charity, your charity. We're gonna raise a whole
- 23:27Speaker 1: lot of money. I've been trying to get him the
- 23:29Speaker 1: dice hair black. We got to pop up to like
- 23:32Speaker 1: five geeps. He never you never died your hair? No,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I never. I'm driving too, Halloween Halloween dealing. He looks
- 23:41Speaker 1: so big, never because I've only seen you like this,
- 23:44Speaker 1: So it's like, wouldn't even recognize, like, oh my god, yeah, Halloween,
- 23:52Speaker 1: we're gonna do it. I'm not I'm not guaranteed. Yeah,
- 23:55Speaker 1: I appreciate it. It is a hymen who organ Halloween
- 23:59Speaker 1: that good man. Thanks for the story. It is. It
- 24:02Speaker 1: is cool to see so outside of racing, what consumes
- 24:06Speaker 1: your day and where's your passion outside of racing? Right now,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I've worked for the legend community and so like he
- 24:14Speaker 1: everything he was saying, it is true. We tell everyone
- 24:17Speaker 1: who played in the NFL, if you made it, you
- 24:19Speaker 1: are a legend. Because it's not easy to get to
- 24:22Speaker 1: this level. But my passion right now is just my kids,
- 24:26Speaker 1: my family. You know, I played football for fifteen years
- 24:29Speaker 1: and I missed a lot of birthdays. I missed a
- 24:32Speaker 1: lot of parties, I missed a lot of family growing up.
- 24:35Speaker 1: So I spent a lot of time with the family
- 24:38Speaker 1: and just trying to, you know, do things that I
- 24:41Speaker 1: didn't get to do. My birthday was always is in August,
- 24:44Speaker 1: so I never celebrated my birthday. So I take trips
- 24:48Speaker 1: every year on my birthday, I try to wake up
- 24:50Speaker 1: in a different place. So yeah, this stuff like that,
- 24:53Speaker 1: just trying to clear my mind. I know, only been
- 24:56Speaker 1: out three years, but I know I'm gonna get back
- 24:57Speaker 1: into football, so I'm trying to do things that I
- 25:00Speaker 1: can be free because once if I get back into
- 25:02Speaker 1: coaching and I know, you know, it's gone, it's gone.
- 25:04Speaker 1: It's gone. So it's funny how everybody they they're so
- 25:09Speaker 1: used to that schedule, right and it's not even like
- 25:11Speaker 1: just a day to day schedule. But we know since
- 25:15Speaker 1: like for me, it was from fourth grade till I
- 25:17Speaker 1: was thirty four, almost thirty five years old. When that
- 25:20Speaker 1: calendar gets close to you know, when I get to
- 25:23Speaker 1: Martable May January like all of a sudden, you start
- 25:25Speaker 1: getting back around the coach, you get doctor August. You
- 25:27Speaker 1: gotta be ready to play ball, like this is like
- 25:30Speaker 1: what I've done for all these years, and now for
- 25:33Speaker 1: the first time, you're like, I don't have that yes,
- 25:36Speaker 1: and it's probably a little shocking at first. How's that transition?
- 25:40Speaker 1: Dealing with that? Maybe that first year, that second year
- 25:42Speaker 1: out now you're saying about your third year. My goal
- 25:44Speaker 1: is to wake up in a different place every year
- 25:47Speaker 1: my birthday. I'm not gonna lie it was. It was
- 25:49Speaker 1: tough the first year, and you know, people bring up
- 25:51Speaker 1: articles and me talking about I'm coming back. I'll be
- 25:54Speaker 1: back next year. It gonna be stronger and better. And
- 25:58Speaker 1: second year, I'm like, daang wanted me. So did you
- 26:01Speaker 1: go out? So you were, as Mike Boyd like to say,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I was retired by yeah, I was re talking about
- 26:07Speaker 1: in the the NFL, and I actually said that an interview.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Somebody brought that up, like you said that, you said,
- 26:12Speaker 1: you not trying to retire, but the NFL may retire me.
- 26:15Speaker 1: And that's what kind of happened. You know. I fell
- 26:17Speaker 1: into that box where I worked out with the with
- 26:20Speaker 1: the forty nine ers, and it's like you just don't
- 26:22Speaker 1: look like you healthy, like your ankles still look like
- 26:24Speaker 1: hurts you limping, And I'm like it's okay, yeah, you know,
- 26:30Speaker 1: but for all of that, don't know it's never got
- 26:33Speaker 1: that conversation from a doctor about that hurts what everything? Like,
- 26:36Speaker 1: you know, like man, I was kind of like moving
- 26:38Speaker 1: right there and then like it looked like you limping,
- 26:41Speaker 1: Like yeah, I finished the workout, was like okay, And
- 26:47Speaker 1: they said you may want to think because I also
- 26:50Speaker 1: I race boats, but don't raise boats. Like I don't
- 26:53Speaker 1: race like like to beat people. We do pokem runs.
- 26:56Speaker 1: So John literally was like, oh yeah, I see you
- 26:59Speaker 1: on them vote on Instagram like the Poper Run and
- 27:03Speaker 1: Poper Run is like so it's like a gang of
- 27:05Speaker 1: guys that have these um you know, like the cocaine
- 27:09Speaker 1: boats that yeah, yeah, a fifty foot out of the the
- 27:13Speaker 1: limits with the twenty thirteen hundred, so the boat thirteen
- 27:16Speaker 1: fifties to boat do one hundred and sixty miles per
- 27:18Speaker 1: hour on the ball need for speed? Yeah oh yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I tell Cays, I said, I played with a dangerous
- 27:24Speaker 1: sport and I'm now I'm doing all this dangerous other
- 27:26Speaker 1: dangerous stuff. But I was doing that. He literally was like,
- 27:30Speaker 1: oh yeah, we saw your Instagram and just looked like
- 27:32Speaker 1: you really not focused on football. And I'm like driving
- 27:36Speaker 1: the boat late, I can't. I was like, yeah, He's like,
- 27:40Speaker 1: it's just something you may want to think that this
- 27:41Speaker 1: is what you want to do because we think you're
- 27:43Speaker 1: a great player, but you really got to be all in.
- 27:46Speaker 1: And I went home and I thought about that, and
- 27:48Speaker 1: I'm like, damn, that's true, you know what I mean,
- 27:50Speaker 1: because I found other hobbies. Yeah, and it's not football
- 27:55Speaker 1: the first thing anymore. Soon start sitting down and I
- 27:59Speaker 1: was like, that's probably it, this is this is probably
- 28:00Speaker 1: not gonna happen. And then for the third year, I
- 28:03Speaker 1: was just like, this is it. I'm not going back.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I'm not talking football. This ain't gonna happen. Let's start
- 28:09Speaker 1: taking trips. And that's what happened. So it's cool when
- 28:12Speaker 1: you can kind of, you know, make that transition and
- 28:17Speaker 1: kind of get that release and you find a love
- 28:21Speaker 1: for other things. Um. One of the things we'd like
- 28:23Speaker 1: to ask a lot of the guests on the show
- 28:25Speaker 1: is Mount Rushmore. If you have four people to pick
- 28:30Speaker 1: from on your Mount Rushmore, who those people be influence,
- 28:34Speaker 1: influence you some somewhere, don't have to be sports. I
- 28:37Speaker 1: have to say the most definitely my mother. I grew
- 28:41Speaker 1: up in a single household and she she worked two
- 28:44Speaker 1: jobs to make sure we had the Nikes, the Jordan's,
- 28:47Speaker 1: the close so we didn't, you know, have to fight
- 28:49Speaker 1: at school people bagging on us. And she did it
- 28:53Speaker 1: all by herself. And I always just tell people my
- 28:56Speaker 1: mom still works to this day and she she always
- 29:00Speaker 1: been a fighter, and I think that's what I got
- 29:02Speaker 1: from her. The second person, it's probably gonna be my
- 29:07Speaker 1: uncle Big as well Anthony, but we call him Big
- 29:10Speaker 1: as I only played football because of him. He was
- 29:13Speaker 1: He was outstanding. Coaches wanted them all. They used to
- 29:18Speaker 1: come to the house and talk to him. Show it's highlighting.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I just give me sitting there like I don't be
- 29:22Speaker 1: better than my uncle man. He used to be, but
- 29:25Speaker 1: he didn't. He failed, you know, he didn't do what
- 29:26Speaker 1: he was supposed to do. When he end up going
- 29:29Speaker 1: to prison. And I remember when he got out and
- 29:31Speaker 1: I was playing very well, he was like, don't ever
- 29:33Speaker 1: do what I did because you got it. Heal it
- 29:36Speaker 1: is in you, he said, but don't follow him. My footsteps.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I want to see he'd be great and he still
- 29:41Speaker 1: tell people that today and he's like, when I told you,
- 29:43Speaker 1: I've seen the sparkle in you. Yeah, And I was like, no,
- 29:47Speaker 1: I felt every bit of that because I wanted to
- 29:49Speaker 1: be in his footsteps, but I didn't want to go
- 29:51Speaker 1: that route. Yeah, I wanted to go to the other route.
- 29:54Speaker 1: And yeah, I chose that and told my uncle And
- 29:57Speaker 1: then I'm gonna have to say one of my coach
- 29:59Speaker 1: there in age. He was my receiver coach in college
- 30:02Speaker 1: and at that point where at Central Missouri State and
- 30:05Speaker 1: I went to a small school. I you know, I
- 30:07Speaker 1: got into a few trouble was why I didn't recognize
- 30:10Speaker 1: the coaches. So yeah, he was a small time coach
- 30:14Speaker 1: for d D two football and I remember going there
- 30:19Speaker 1: and I just didn't like the other coaches, so I
- 30:21Speaker 1: wouldn't go to nothing that workouts. Now. I just was like,
- 30:24Speaker 1: and al, I'm better than everybody. Yeah, I shouldn't be
- 30:26Speaker 1: a D two football Like you know what I'm saying
- 30:28Speaker 1: that that's that mentality that I kind of had coming
- 30:30Speaker 1: from California going to Missouri and I just remember he
- 30:35Speaker 1: come knock on the door and I didn't know who
- 30:36Speaker 1: he was because they just hired him. And I'm like, man,
- 30:39Speaker 1: this dude knocking on the door, like what you're doing.
- 30:42Speaker 1: He like, hey, I'm your new coach. I'm like, no,
- 30:44Speaker 1: you know, I'm my coach White. You know what I'm saying.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Gardner was my receiver coach. You know, they fired him
- 30:50Speaker 1: and hired me. I said, okay. He said, why are
- 30:53Speaker 1: you now that workout? No one told me we had workout.
- 30:57Speaker 1: He was like, the one told you we had workout?
- 30:59Speaker 1: Said no, sir. He said, well let's go. I said
- 31:02Speaker 1: right now. He said yeah, let's go. So he took
- 31:05Speaker 1: me up to the facility start working out. He was
- 31:09Speaker 1: He talked to me like a real dude. Yeah yeah,
- 31:12Speaker 1: behind closed door, like yeah, And I felt that, like
- 31:15Speaker 1: put your own games. But he's like, you can go
- 31:17Speaker 1: to the NFL. You don't let the yeah tell you
- 31:20Speaker 1: you can't make it. Don't let nobody ever stop you
- 31:24Speaker 1: from being who you can be. And he's like, just
- 31:26Speaker 1: talk to me. If you can't talk to him, you
- 31:28Speaker 1: talk to me. It's amazing how the hardest coaches are
- 31:32Speaker 1: sometimes the most disciplined coaches of people in your life
- 31:35Speaker 1: are the ones that you love the most. Yeah, it's
- 31:37Speaker 1: not the ones that give you stuff. It's the ones
- 31:39Speaker 1: that like are like hard on you and like really
- 31:42Speaker 1: like they hold your account. Yeah. Those aunts that like man,
- 31:45Speaker 1: you look big man really affected me and changed my life. Yeah. Sorry,
- 31:48Speaker 1: you don't know. And it's funny because now he works
- 31:51Speaker 1: at test Shoe and I'm now I'm about to be
- 31:53Speaker 1: going up to test Shoe just sitting up there chilling
- 31:55Speaker 1: with him because he did a lot. He even helped
- 31:58Speaker 1: me pick my agent, just all type of stuff. And
- 32:00Speaker 1: I always thank this man for that because I picked
- 32:03Speaker 1: the great agent with his help, and he moved me.
- 32:06Speaker 1: He made me become a better player because I was
- 32:08Speaker 1: a selfish player at one point, and he was like,
- 32:11Speaker 1: you can't do this all by yourself, neither, So you
- 32:14Speaker 1: gotta be friends with these cats on the team because
- 32:17Speaker 1: they don't like you because they think you you think
- 32:19Speaker 1: you better than him. I'm like, well i am, but
- 32:21Speaker 1: he like, yeah, don't tell him that, you know, you
- 32:25Speaker 1: dude to go out there and ball out and left
- 32:27Speaker 1: them up. So I did that. And then my last
- 32:30Speaker 1: the last guy will be Jim Harball. And I say
- 32:33Speaker 1: Jim Harball because when I was in San Francisco. I
- 32:36Speaker 1: only played special teams right until Jim Harball got there.
- 32:39Speaker 1: When Jim Harball got there, he said, I don't know
- 32:42Speaker 1: why you're not on this offense. I said, I don't
- 32:44Speaker 1: know that. They just want they don't put me on
- 32:47Speaker 1: the offense. He said, that's gonna change that man. I played.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I came out at the Forge magazine and they said
- 32:52Speaker 1: I played seventeen different positions that year Jim Harball came
- 32:56Speaker 1: and that's what got me that contract in Tennessee. So
- 33:00Speaker 1: and I still talk to Jim Browball today and all
- 33:03Speaker 1: of that because I tell them, if it wasn't for you,
- 33:06Speaker 1: I probably wouldn't be in a situation right today because
- 33:08Speaker 1: you need that coach. Every coach don't like you, and
- 33:12Speaker 1: then when you do get a coach they like, you
- 33:13Speaker 1: can get an opportunity because I feel like sometimes you
- 33:16Speaker 1: have great players on the team, but they never get
- 33:17Speaker 1: that opportunity right until they go to that team with
- 33:20Speaker 1: that coach. Season Jim Harball scene it in me. Gave
- 33:23Speaker 1: me an opportunity, and I took advantage of it. Everything.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Every time I had an opportunity, I took advantage of it.
- 33:29Speaker 1: And that goes back to my mom because every opportunity
- 33:32Speaker 1: she had, she took advantage of it. She worked it
- 33:34Speaker 1: butt off and and you know she did it all
- 33:38Speaker 1: by herself. So thank you so much. I know that
- 33:42Speaker 1: was great, man. I mean it's it's really here. It's
- 33:45Speaker 1: really good when you hear great stories about the people
- 33:49Speaker 1: that poured it to you. Yeah. And now that you
- 33:51Speaker 1: continue to put it, you know, push it forward and
- 33:53Speaker 1: pouring into other Yeah. Man, I mean you just poured
- 33:55Speaker 1: out some really good stuff for our fans. And I
- 33:57Speaker 1: listened up there too. And so my last question for
- 34:01Speaker 1: you is my name is Delaney Walker, and my life
- 34:06Speaker 1: right now is my life is great right now, be
- 34:14Speaker 1: honest with you. I get to work with guys like
- 34:16Speaker 1: y'all and the Legends community. I get to drive cars,
- 34:19Speaker 1: I get through rached boats. I saved a lot of
- 34:22Speaker 1: money so I live comfortably take care of my family.
- 34:27Speaker 1: I really can't complain, you know. I wake up every day.
- 34:30Speaker 1: I tell people. The best thing is I wake up
- 34:32Speaker 1: every day and I'm blasted because some people don't. I
- 34:37Speaker 1: get up and I get to tell my mom my lover.
- 34:39Speaker 1: I get to kiss my kids, I get to see
- 34:42Speaker 1: the world. I breathe, so I would say, yeah, I'm
- 34:46Speaker 1: blast and I'm great. You know what I'm saying. That's good.
