- 0:18Speaker 2: Another mile?
- 0:19Speaker 3: Who talk to dog this day line? Don't tell you
- 0:21Speaker 3: gotta burk. Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee. Let's
- 0:26Speaker 3: Talk is probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker, Real Talk,
- 0:29Speaker 3: Real experience, real results, Frank Walker Law dot Com. Let
- 0:33Speaker 3: that conversation begin on Let's Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Hello, ladies and gentlemen, This is Crawley with Let's Talk.
- 0:40Speaker 4: And I have in the building. I have my two
- 0:43Speaker 4: co hosts, Hollis Lewis Hello, and Lisa Odie.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Now now hold on now before we get started, here
- 0:51Speaker 2: we go. Before we get started, I'm gonna turn my
- 0:55Speaker 2: hair fines up. I need y'all to tell me. I
- 0:59Speaker 2: need miss Lisa, mister mister Carl Lee to tell me
- 1:03Speaker 2: how right I am about about about going to be
- 1:07Speaker 2: about a particular quarterback, Sam Donald. Now, last year I
- 1:13Speaker 2: told you you don't trade a quarterback, and Dad you
- 1:17Speaker 2: the fourteen wins in the playoffs. So back to back years,
- 1:22Speaker 2: Minnesota fourteen wins, Seattle fourteen wins, and now they are
- 1:26Speaker 2: in the NFC Championship. So I need you to to
- 1:31Speaker 2: tell me.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Hold on, hold on, Yes, how I am I'm the
- 1:39Speaker 4: domers of this ship. Is there a possibility to get
- 1:43Speaker 4: somebody off the show?
- 1:47Speaker 2: Don't I think that we need the university? But no,
- 1:57Speaker 2: I'm just saying, we'll talk later. But it just goes
- 2:01Speaker 2: to my point, and we can go into Thomasson, right Tomlin, No,
- 2:04Speaker 2: I wouldn't know that we can. We can start here. No, No,
- 2:06Speaker 2: I'm saying, it just goes into Tomas. And what I'm
- 2:08Speaker 2: saying though, is that And again they their reports. Obviously
- 2:11Speaker 2: he walked away, he resigned, which could be true. We know,
- 2:14Speaker 2: maybe maybe wasn't. But the thing is, I'm just speaking
- 2:17Speaker 2: from the fan perspective. You don't crap on somebody who
- 2:20Speaker 2: is consistently getting you places. Sam Donald got is team
- 2:24Speaker 2: consistently in the playoffs the last couple years. Thomas has
- 2:27Speaker 2: been the model of consistency. Okay, and and and super
- 2:30Speaker 2: Bowl wins, super Bowl appearance, I think, another ANC championship,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and in the playoffs every single year.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Here's here's and two and and I'm I'm with I'm
- 2:39Speaker 4: with you, okay, But I'm gonna I'm gonna try to
- 2:42Speaker 4: answer this in the way that I think you will say, yes,
- 2:47Speaker 4: you're right, Okay, So what has happened. What has happened
- 2:55Speaker 4: is now the quarterback is the guy. Now the quarterback
- 3:01Speaker 4: is the guy. So fourteen games and you're winning fourteen games,
- 3:06Speaker 4: I don't care. If you win fifteen games, you get
- 3:09Speaker 4: to you get me to the playoffs, and we don't
- 3:11Speaker 4: win over those year.
- 3:13Speaker 2: After year after year after year. I ain't looking at the.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Fourteen No, I'm just I'm just saying this is what
- 3:19Speaker 4: I think that now we're looking for somebody who's gonna
- 3:25Speaker 4: now get us over the hump, because you're not gonna
- 3:27Speaker 4: give that quarterback.
- 3:29Speaker 2: You're not gonna give that quarterback.
- 3:30Speaker 4: The whole structure of why we got to the playoffs
- 3:35Speaker 4: and and and didn't get and didn't get to the
- 3:37Speaker 4: super Bowl, we didn't win the super Bowl. You're gonna
- 3:40Speaker 4: look at he's getting us fourteen wins every year, he's
- 3:44Speaker 4: getting us in the playoffs every year.
- 3:46Speaker 2: But we need more.
- 3:48Speaker 4: But what I'm saying, though, is like in going back right, wronger, indifferent,
- 3:51Speaker 4: I'm just thinking that's how that is. Going back to tom
- 3:53Speaker 4: win again. If you got a quarterback who's getting consistently
- 3:56Speaker 4: in the playoffs. You keep him, you don't trade him,
- 3:58Speaker 4: because quarterbacks don't grow on cheath and it's same and
- 4:00Speaker 4: it's the same thing for a coach. My thing with
- 4:03Speaker 4: Thomas and again, I think, to me, the consistency actually hurting.
- 4:10Speaker 4: I think they probably need not. But what I'm saying
- 4:13Speaker 4: is I'm going the other way. He probably needed a
- 4:15Speaker 4: very lose, bad, losing season, so that way because he
- 4:19Speaker 4: could get better draft picks because at the undersink that
- 4:23Speaker 4: he was going, you're at the end of the draft
- 4:26Speaker 4: always right, You're never going to get the top You're
- 4:28Speaker 4: not getting the top guy. And the fact of the
- 4:30Speaker 4: matter is, when I wonder where's the GM at when
- 4:32Speaker 4: it comes to Tomlin, because he like the quarterback.
- 4:35Speaker 2: You're not picking out the quarterbacks. You're not picking out
- 4:37Speaker 2: the players at least on your own right, right.
- 4:39Speaker 5: I mean, I'm gonna throw some theories out there. They're
- 4:42Speaker 5: not conspiracy theories, but but they're just fox that are
- 4:45Speaker 5: coming out now that the dust is settling with Tomlin resigning,
- 4:49Speaker 5: as they said.
- 4:50Speaker 6: But you know, in nineteen years, Tomlin, you.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Know, he held the most consecutive non losing seasons in
- 4:58Speaker 5: the NFL. He had the longest streak in NFL history. Okay,
- 5:01Speaker 5: so we know, you know, he's consistent, just like you said, Hollis.
- 5:04Speaker 6: But here's the thing.
- 5:06Speaker 5: The Steelers, they still have contractual rights to him for
- 5:11Speaker 5: another year. Okay, So if anybody would want to hire
- 5:15Speaker 5: Tomlin in the next you know, next season, for the
- 5:18Speaker 5: next season, they would likely have to do a trade
- 5:21Speaker 5: for him. So, you know, I think that kind of
- 5:24Speaker 5: muddies the waters that that fact is there. I don't
- 5:27Speaker 5: think that's being advertised as much. I know he said
- 5:29Speaker 5: that he wanted it, you know, to have personal time
- 5:31Speaker 5: with his family and take a year off. But I
- 5:34Speaker 5: also think that he and maybe Art Rooney the second
- 5:37Speaker 5: probably had a conversation.
- 5:38Speaker 2: About that, and I believe that, Yeah, I believe that.
- 5:41Speaker 5: And so it wasn't a forced thing. But also it
- 5:43Speaker 5: wasn't something that I don't believe Tomlin wanted to completely
- 5:48Speaker 5: sit a year out, but he probably made an agreement
- 5:50Speaker 5: with Art Rooney that he would just for the fact
- 5:52Speaker 5: that it's the organization he loves, the Steelers.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I believe that.
- 5:55Speaker 4: I don't think he like he didn't walk away, okay,
- 6:00Speaker 4: like you think, I do not think he walked away.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I think that there was.
- 6:05Speaker 4: And the reason why is as soon as it came out,
- 6:10Speaker 4: he's getting all of his retirement or whatever, buta da
- 6:12Speaker 4: da dah, like nothing's he's not losing anything. So he's
- 6:16Speaker 4: getting everything that possible that he could get. But I
- 6:21Speaker 4: think shot sixteen million, I think, yes, but he the
- 6:26Speaker 4: sixteen he left ain't gonna hurt him from what he's getting, Okay,
- 6:31Speaker 4: you know, And.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So I think what happened.
- 6:34Speaker 4: I truly believe wholeheartedly this was this was a sit
- 6:39Speaker 4: down discussion and say, look, we you know, we want
- 6:43Speaker 4: to go another way, but we don't. And again, we
- 6:45Speaker 4: don't want to hurt you for no reason to get
- 6:48Speaker 4: another job or anything like that. I think there was
- 6:51Speaker 4: so much mutual respect for him that but they but
- 6:58Speaker 4: but again they wanted to move on, and so so
- 7:02Speaker 4: then how do we make this move?
- 7:06Speaker 2: And everybody's okay, yeah, because I think for them it
- 7:09Speaker 2: wasn't necessarily even about him. It was probably about them
- 7:11Speaker 2: because they've been the model of consistency. So they only
- 7:14Speaker 2: have three coaches since what's sixty nine?
- 7:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and then how do you how do you realize,
- 7:18Speaker 4: how do you how do you how would they have
- 7:20Speaker 4: justified firing him and then him saying I have the
- 7:25Speaker 4: winningest record, and you're in the playoffs and been in
- 7:28Speaker 4: the playoffs, all these kinds of things. But but so
- 7:31Speaker 4: I think in my mind there had to be like, look, man,
- 7:35Speaker 4: you know, let's sit down, let's talk this out, give
- 7:38Speaker 4: you another another opportunity to find you another place. We
- 7:42Speaker 4: don't want to put anything. We don't want to scar
- 7:44Speaker 4: you up by by firing min.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I don't think that was a I think they may
- 7:48Speaker 2: have said that, but I think it was about them.
- 7:50Speaker 2: They yeah, yeah, it was about them. But I told again,
- 7:54Speaker 2: y'all gotta give me some praise of Warship Services, because
- 7:58Speaker 2: I told y'all what was gonna happen. Said you get
- 8:00Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers, I said this last year. I said he
- 8:03Speaker 2: got in a year. I said, if you don't, if
- 8:05Speaker 2: you don't make a big din, you don't win a
- 8:06Speaker 2: playoff game, you're out of there. This is what I
- 8:08Speaker 2: said this last year. Because the fact of the matter,
- 8:11Speaker 2: you you don't get Aaron you don't. You don't get
- 8:17Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers for like a long term thing that's like, okay,
- 8:20Speaker 2: we're ready to win now. So and to your point,
- 8:23Speaker 2: I believe that conversation probably happened, and it was like,
- 8:26Speaker 2: you know, we got to have at least one or
- 8:28Speaker 2: two playoff wins. If we don't get that, then you're gone.
- 8:31Speaker 2: So I think that. So I believe that. But to
- 8:34Speaker 2: that same vein a Buffalo Bills coach.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, we've got uh Sean McDermott and
- 8:41Speaker 5: that that's a whole complete well not really, it's not
- 8:45Speaker 5: not completely different, because you know it is, do you really?
- 8:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, because you got a franchise quarterback.
- 8:51Speaker 5: Well, and we'll get to that in a minute, because
- 8:53Speaker 5: you know, but I'm saying as far as the success rate,
- 8:56Speaker 5: because you've got Sean McDermott was ninety eight and threes
- 8:59Speaker 5: in records he was there. That that's you You can't
- 9:01Speaker 5: argue with that, right, And the difference between him and
- 9:05Speaker 5: Tomlin is, you know, he continued he wants to continue coaching.
- 9:08Speaker 6: I mean, he's already made that clear.
- 9:10Speaker 5: He's thrown his his hat, you know, in the in
- 9:12Speaker 5: the in the game, and you know now that he's
- 9:14Speaker 5: been fired after nine seasons. The rumor is, the rumor
- 9:17Speaker 5: is that, you know the problem wasn't the relationship that
- 9:22Speaker 5: he and Josh Allen had, uh you know that they
- 9:25Speaker 5: had mutual respect for each other. They they you know,
- 9:27Speaker 5: I think I think Josh Allen saw him as a
- 9:29Speaker 5: father figure. They had a personal relationship out off you know,
- 9:32Speaker 5: outside of the game and off the field. The problem
- 9:36Speaker 5: was McDermott is defensive oriented, yes, and he wanted to
- 9:41Speaker 5: stop the bleeding as far as Josh Allen with his interceptions, turnovers,
- 9:46Speaker 5: things of that nature.
- 9:48Speaker 6: And uh, you know.
- 9:49Speaker 5: After the o C I think was Brian de baul left,
- 9:52Speaker 5: then there was the conflict started. I think he was
- 9:55Speaker 5: the buffer and between he and Josh Allen, and once
- 9:59Speaker 5: he left, I think Sean McDermott felt more comfortable letting
- 10:03Speaker 5: Josh Allen know he had a more defensive philosophy and
- 10:07Speaker 5: that kind of started the whole roller coaster of this.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I mean, it's I think it's one of those things
- 10:13Speaker 2: and we'll talk probably talk about hardball too. It's like
- 10:16Speaker 2: if you if you have a franchise quarterback, a potential
- 10:20Speaker 2: on the CUSP Hall of Fame quarterback, he has that
- 10:23Speaker 2: trajectory like at some point you gotta win. And if
- 10:27Speaker 2: you look at the playoffs this year, as far as
- 10:29Speaker 2: Josh Allen is concerned, You're not going against Patrick Mahomes,
- 10:32Speaker 2: You're not going against Joe Burrow, You're not going against
- 10:35Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson. So really, in the Buffalo Bill parbaty fan base,
- 10:40Speaker 2: in locker room and administration, this was their year that
- 10:44Speaker 2: they're supposed to win and if you don't win. But
- 10:47Speaker 2: I will say this too. We could talk about coaches,
- 10:50Speaker 2: but Josh Allen, but he had five turnovers. Yeah, you
- 10:53Speaker 2: can't do that, and you're the best player in the world.
- 10:59Speaker 6: McDermot point right.
- 11:00Speaker 5: I mean that's what he wanted to work on and
- 11:03Speaker 5: take care of, and yet he gets fired for that philosophy.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Well, and and again to Hollis, I'll go with you.
- 11:10Speaker 2: You can't I don't care what position you play. You can't.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Chatter about anything money or anything disruptive of the team.
- 11:26Speaker 4: And all of a sudden, you get into a game,
- 11:28Speaker 4: a big game, a playoff game, and you do nothing.
- 11:32Speaker 2: You you you played back Josh Allen that.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Type of player, though, did he do? I know a
- 11:38Speaker 5: lot of are like that what you're talking about. I
- 11:41Speaker 5: don't think he's that. He doesn't fit that stereo.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But the best player in.
- 11:44Speaker 4: The world, well, quote unquote, you got to show you
- 11:47Speaker 4: got to show up and and too, and and again.
- 11:50Speaker 4: To take that even a step further. You have to
- 11:54Speaker 4: step up not in just the regular season the games
- 11:58Speaker 4: that you must win. Those game, is that that that
- 12:01Speaker 4: playoff game, that second playoff game, get to the super Bowl.
- 12:05Speaker 4: You might be able to lose the super Bowl once
- 12:07Speaker 4: or twice, but you can't lose in in in the
- 12:11Speaker 4: playoffs and just think that you're gonna be okay because
- 12:14Speaker 4: they're looking at you. It's first to get there. Then
- 12:18Speaker 4: once you start getting there, now you got to start
- 12:22Speaker 4: to take them. You gotta start moving out and see that.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And that to me, that's the difference between Tomlin and
- 12:27Speaker 2: you know, Harball and McDermott because Tomlin never since Ben
- 12:30Speaker 2: Roethlisberger retired, he never had a franchise quarterback. You know,
- 12:35Speaker 2: you got in Baltimore, in Buffalo, you have two quarterbacks
- 12:39Speaker 2: who are in their prime, and you're still not getting
- 12:42Speaker 2: over the hump. So I was just saying, man, I mean,
- 12:44Speaker 2: I understand, you know, far as them letting those coaches go,
- 12:48Speaker 2: but just in the case of Buffalo, that game was
- 12:51Speaker 2: on Josh, I'm with you, but and I would say
- 12:54Speaker 2: this too, not to give him no excuses but you
- 12:56Speaker 2: do have I mean they they had a pretty rough
- 12:59Speaker 2: role trip because you got to go from Buffalo, then
- 13:02Speaker 2: you go to Jacksonville and the next week you turn
- 13:04Speaker 2: around and you going a mile high those that's not
- 13:07Speaker 2: an easy not roll the travel.
- 13:09Speaker 5: The travel probably played a part. But but this is
- 13:11Speaker 5: kind of a pattern that Josh Allen had this year.
- 13:15Speaker 5: And and that's what I said. You know, Sean McDermott
- 13:18Speaker 5: wanted to do something to kind of alleviate the issue
- 13:22Speaker 5: of his turnovers and and and maybe you know, shift
- 13:25Speaker 5: the philosophy of the offense a little bit from the
- 13:27Speaker 5: past more to the run. And I think that's when
- 13:30Speaker 5: you know Josh Allen. And here's the thing about it.
- 13:33Speaker 5: I mean, you know, Josh Allen was so emotional during
- 13:36Speaker 5: the press conference after the game. He was you know,
- 13:39Speaker 5: and and it just makes you wonder was it a
- 13:41Speaker 5: combination of knowing maybe because.
- 13:44Speaker 6: He had to be aware.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I don't know, if I don't mean five turnovers that
- 13:49Speaker 2: that'll bring the tears out, Yeah, I.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Think when you start, but he had a certain he
- 13:59Speaker 5: had to have a certain awarenes you know, the management
- 14:01Speaker 5: is not going to do anything that their franchise quarterback
- 14:04Speaker 5: is not happy about.
- 14:06Speaker 4: But okay, so if Hollis and you know this for
- 14:10Speaker 4: a fact, at least I'm sure you even know this,
- 14:12Speaker 4: just just just for the facts of it. You're in
- 14:16Speaker 4: a major game, and you're one of the guys, like
- 14:19Speaker 4: you're one of the dudes.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Make the case that even one of the game you
- 14:26Speaker 2: have to.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I can appreciate this passion, crying and all that, but
- 14:34Speaker 4: you didn't show up.
- 14:35Speaker 5: You said that with a smirk in Facebook away from
- 14:38Speaker 5: a defensive guy.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Right, you didn't show up. And I think that, like
- 14:46Speaker 2: and when, when you.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Don't show up in a game like that, you are saying,
- 14:53Speaker 4: or your actions are saying you're not ready for this.
- 14:58Speaker 4: I mean, I know I wouldn't go that far. He
- 15:02Speaker 4: just had a bad game at a bad time. There's
- 15:05Speaker 4: no such thing as a bad game at the bad time.
- 15:07Speaker 4: You can't have a bad game at the bad time,
- 15:09Speaker 4: not in the NFL, not for long. I mean, like
- 15:13Speaker 4: I said, you know, if you look at all these guys,
- 15:16Speaker 4: if you look at this situation, there's some reality of
- 15:21Speaker 4: you need to be great now. I mean, we're looking
- 15:24Speaker 4: to be great now.
- 15:25Speaker 2: And again I agree with you on that, But like
- 15:29Speaker 2: I said, I think he had a bad game. You know,
- 15:30Speaker 2: the picks are the picks, those can be some of
- 15:34Speaker 2: those may be contribute to the defense is making better plays.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I think the biggest issue probably was the fumbles. That's
- 15:40Speaker 2: maybe something you could control the tab bit more. And
- 15:44Speaker 2: like I said, I just think he had a bad
- 15:45Speaker 2: game of bad spot.
- 15:46Speaker 6: Well, let me let me ask you bouth this guys.
- 15:48Speaker 5: So you know you've got the second winning a coach
- 15:51Speaker 5: in franchise history. Okay, that's what Sean McDermott meant to
- 15:55Speaker 5: the Buffalo Bills. Okay, he's only behind Marv Leevy. So
- 16:00Speaker 5: lev or Levy Levy, isn't it Levy lev Good?
- 16:03Speaker 6: I said it, right, all.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Right, at least don't so you're taking my work.
- 16:07Speaker 6: Well, the audience can correct me later. I'm sure they will.
- 16:10Speaker 5: So, so, how can you justify his firing today? I mean,
- 16:15Speaker 5: I mean, when you look at the like you're just said, Hollish,
- 16:17Speaker 5: you look at the play of Josh Allen, you look
- 16:21Speaker 5: at look at what happened during the game, How in
- 16:23Speaker 5: the world can you blame it on him?
- 16:25Speaker 2: I don't understand, because somebody gotta take the blame, and
- 16:28Speaker 2: you're not getting rid of your franchise quarterback.
- 16:30Speaker 6: Right, and that seems to be a trend in the NFL.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you got nine NFL coaches who have
- 16:36Speaker 2: been fired. But that's like, what about like a quarter
- 16:39Speaker 2: over a quarter of the league is gone, you know
- 16:42Speaker 2: what I'm saying. And and and hardball you got to
- 16:44Speaker 2: talk about him too well.
- 16:46Speaker 4: And and again, if I'm the head coach, and and
- 16:50Speaker 4: we and I feel like we're in that case, there
- 16:53Speaker 4: was a great chance that somebody could be knocking on
- 16:55Speaker 4: my door. You know what I'm gonna do, Hollis, I'm
- 16:57Speaker 4: coming knocking on your door because you the quarterback. I'm
- 17:00Speaker 4: going to try to make sure management and all the
- 17:03Speaker 4: people who are involved in my firing or hiring, let's
- 17:07Speaker 4: letting you know. I'm I'm trying to make some changes.
- 17:11Speaker 4: I feel like I got to make changes. Yes, You're
- 17:13Speaker 4: not making change with Josh Allen. Yes, absolutely, I'm not.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Josh all is the one telling them the changes that
- 17:20Speaker 5: that he thinks needs to be You may.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Have that opportunity, but in most cases, in most cases, okay,
- 17:27Speaker 4: if you think that you're going to be gone, like
- 17:30Speaker 4: and I don't think Josh there was no place for
- 17:33Speaker 4: him to think that there'd be no reason for him
- 17:35Speaker 4: to be gone. Okay, but if it's if it's that
- 17:40Speaker 4: or the coach, it's gonna be the coach. And again,
- 17:46Speaker 4: my quick I'm looking at the coach. I'm looking at
- 17:49Speaker 4: being the coach. How do I do I save myself?
- 17:53Speaker 2: If you you're not if you want to management right
- 17:57Speaker 2: now and said, well, let's consider moving Josh Allen.
- 18:00Speaker 4: You're fired. There, you're done. You just signed your Yeah,
- 18:05Speaker 4: you're done.
- 18:06Speaker 2: You know what I mean. It's just like Jim Harball.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I'm sure at some point he was frustrated with the
- 18:11Speaker 2: play of Lamar Jackson or lack of or Derrick Henry.
- 18:14Speaker 2: But you're not gonna go into Ozzie News them off
- 18:17Speaker 2: for whoever the management there and say oh, let's get
- 18:19Speaker 2: rid of them. No, you're gonna be gone because they're
- 18:22Speaker 2: in their mind they're looking at I have a franchise
- 18:24Speaker 2: quarterback here. It's when you as the coach to make
- 18:27Speaker 2: this thing happen.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Okay, well let me ask let me okay, so I'm
- 18:30Speaker 4: gonna roll with you.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Okay, you know it's two to one.
- 18:33Speaker 4: It looks like all right, I'm gonna so let me
- 18:37Speaker 4: throw this out.
- 18:41Speaker 2: When is it. When is it that.
- 18:45Speaker 4: That management, okay, management is reaching out to that quarterback
- 18:50Speaker 4: and letting them go how far? How far off the
- 18:53Speaker 4: playoff path? A couple of losing seasons? When do you
- 18:57Speaker 4: think that it is now literally management? I don't management
- 19:05Speaker 4: the quarter When do they blame the quarterback?
- 19:08Speaker 2: I would say, you gotta have maybe a couple losing seasons,
- 19:11Speaker 2: and you gotta have maybe a slight declining skill set
- 19:15Speaker 2: or you have to be a maybe a cancer to
- 19:16Speaker 2: the locker room. Because again, quarterback leap play at a
- 19:22Speaker 2: high level. And you've been doing consistently, although you may
- 19:25Speaker 2: have not gotten to the super Bowl. But if you're
- 19:26Speaker 2: getting like a Josh Allen, if you're getting to the playoffs,
- 19:29Speaker 2: you getting to the AFC Championships like you're getting far,
- 19:32Speaker 2: you got great stats, great numbers, you don't trade the guy.
- 19:35Speaker 2: It's just as you can't let him go. You can't
- 19:37Speaker 2: you cannot move him because you're not guaranteed to have
- 19:41Speaker 2: another guy. We see how many teams just don't can
- 19:46Speaker 2: never figure out the quarterback. We've seen Minnesota, you had
- 19:49Speaker 2: Sam Donald one year and you're in the playoffs, who
- 19:50Speaker 2: went in fourteen games, and the next year you're sitting
- 19:53Speaker 2: it home. And the biggest change was Sam Donald. I'm
- 19:56Speaker 2: sure there was other little micro changes, but the big
- 19:58Speaker 2: change with that quarterback position. And nobody would even consider
- 20:01Speaker 2: him an elite guy. And but what I'll say is to
- 20:06Speaker 2: that getting in the right system. Sometimes getting in the
- 20:11Speaker 2: right system helps you even more because there's there's been
- 20:16Speaker 2: a lot there's been a lot of quarterbacks, there's been
- 20:18Speaker 2: a lot of running backs. There's been a lot of
- 20:20Speaker 2: receivers who have not been able to do their best
- 20:24Speaker 2: until you put him in a system that works really
- 20:27Speaker 2: for them. But I think system now is a little
- 20:30Speaker 2: bit overrated because everybody runs the same thing. No, I
- 20:34Speaker 2: really do. I really do, because because everybody, they're gonna
- 20:38Speaker 2: tailor the system to you. Now. The coaches aren't like
- 20:42Speaker 2: what they used to be. They're gonna I'm gonna run
- 20:43Speaker 2: what I run. No, they're gonna tailor that. Some do,
- 20:48Speaker 2: and I don't think they all do.
- 20:50Speaker 4: I think there are still that that that that super
- 20:54Speaker 4: that guy who is super sure that his system works everywhere.
- 20:58Speaker 2: That guy's not hosting that high level because that thing's
- 21:01Speaker 2: got to be a.
- 21:01Speaker 5: Just And I really truly think all of these things happening.
- 21:04Speaker 5: We're and we're seeing what happens to these coaches whenever
- 21:07Speaker 5: things are you know, not favorable between themselves and in
- 21:12Speaker 5: the franchise quarterback that we're entering this era where the
- 21:16Speaker 5: body of work that you produce as a coach during
- 21:20Speaker 5: the season doesn't matter. All that matters is January, Yes,
- 21:24Speaker 5: January and and and so.
- 21:27Speaker 2: But but I would say that depends on the franchise
- 21:29Speaker 2: too well to.
- 21:30Speaker 5: A degree, because if you were all don't you think
- 21:32Speaker 5: overall those But that's what we're seeing.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I think, to your degree, to your point, your own
- 21:38Speaker 2: success can hurt you. So if you are a person
- 21:41Speaker 2: who consistently gets there, like I said, you've consistently have
- 21:44Speaker 2: goog regular seasons like tomlind Yeah didn't. That don't matter
- 21:47Speaker 2: no more? What are you doing here? But if you're
- 21:48Speaker 2: coaching in Miami and you get Miami to the playoffs, great.
- 21:52Speaker 4: See I say, that's what I said about That's what
- 21:54Speaker 4: I said about Tomlin after a while his being good
- 21:58Speaker 4: or great even wasn't enough.
- 22:01Speaker 2: We want more. We won a.
- 22:02Speaker 5: Super Bowl, And it depends on the fan base being spoiled,
- 22:06Speaker 5: is what I would You know, There are there are,
- 22:09Speaker 5: there are teams out there that would you know, just
- 22:11Speaker 5: just absolutely go crazy if their team made the playoffs,
- 22:15Speaker 5: their coach would be, you know, signing a huge contract,
- 22:17Speaker 5: while other ones, like the Steelers who consistently go to
- 22:20Speaker 5: the playoffs and consistently lose the wild card game or
- 22:23Speaker 5: the or the following, you know that the game to
- 22:25Speaker 5: get into the championship, they're not happy with that anymore.
- 22:29Speaker 6: I mean, you know, it's what you're it's levels of
- 22:32Speaker 6: expectation from the fans.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know this, and I probably
- 22:36Speaker 2: should have. I should have looked it up.
- 22:38Speaker 4: But any of these quarterbacks, because if I'm a quarterback
- 22:45Speaker 4: in today's game in NFL, the one thing that I'm
- 22:48Speaker 4: going after is a guaranteed contract.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Before so, I'm.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Curious, do you think any of these I would have
- 22:58Speaker 4: to assume these guys have guaranteed contracts and so that
- 23:04Speaker 4: in all reality, money is not the issue because they're
- 23:06Speaker 4: still gonna get it until they go unless they go
- 23:08Speaker 4: somewhere else, Am I right?
- 23:09Speaker 2: I mean? Yeah, money, I mean I think I thought, wow,
- 23:12Speaker 2: I mean, you know, these all these guys make millions.
- 23:14Speaker 5: Yeah, It's kind of like the case with Tomin Like
- 23:16Speaker 5: I said, they still have contractual rights the Steelers.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I don't. I don't think money would be like the
- 23:21Speaker 2: issue in this well no, but my reasoning for it
- 23:24Speaker 2: because if I'm if I'm guaranteed, if I'm guaranteed it,
- 23:29Speaker 2: are you really thinking about letting me go, especially if
- 23:32Speaker 2: it's a big you know it might be some of
- 23:35Speaker 2: these dudes are a big deal. I mean, I think
- 23:36Speaker 2: money is a fact. But they're not letting these guys go.
- 23:39Speaker 2: You're not letting Josh Allen go. You're not lett Lamar
- 23:41Speaker 2: Jackson go. You're not doing that. You're letting the coach go.
- 23:44Speaker 2: And they just showed us that they did it. So
- 23:45Speaker 2: hard Ball's gone, Tomlin gone, Buffalo, He's gone. You're not
- 23:50Speaker 2: letting your franchise quarterback go because what they're seeing now
- 23:54Speaker 2: is that you may not get another shot if you
- 23:57Speaker 2: let him go. Because I think, like I said, a
- 23:58Speaker 2: team like Minnesota, you're gonna be hurting for a couple
- 24:01Speaker 2: of years until if McCarty can really get it going.
- 24:04Speaker 2: You don't let franchise quarterback go. Say, that's not even
- 24:06Speaker 2: in the discussion at this point, not in their prime.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I'm not even But are we are we putting that
- 24:12Speaker 2: title on them. Yeah, too soon. No, you MVPs. These
- 24:16Speaker 2: are MVPs. Josh Allen. We can't really put Patrick Mahoe
- 24:20Speaker 2: because he's surpassed them. But Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, you're
- 24:25Speaker 2: not letting these guys go. And if you do, you
- 24:28Speaker 2: better have a plan.
- 24:29Speaker 6: Coaches are replaceable. I mean that's the way they look
- 24:32Speaker 6: at it.
- 24:32Speaker 5: There's so many out there, and like I said, you know,
- 24:34Speaker 5: what they do consistently doesn't doesn't really matter. They they
- 24:39Speaker 5: look at the coach and they blame the coach for
- 24:41Speaker 5: quarterback performance.

- 25:52Speaker 3: You've gotta Burt. Welcome to Let's talk with Carl Lee.

- 26:00Speaker 3: real experience, real results, Frank Walker Law dot com. Let
- 26:04Speaker 3: that conversation begin on Let's talk.
- 26:08Speaker 6: Unfortunately, that's what we've come to, Carl.
- 26:11Speaker 2: So, so we got the playoffs, So we got New England,
- 26:15Speaker 2: New Denver, and then you got Seattle versus l A.
- 26:18Speaker 2: That game last night was phenomenal. That's one thing I
- 26:22Speaker 2: will say these playoffs. The playoff games have been great,
- 26:28Speaker 2: Like it was like the only one that was like
- 26:30Speaker 2: the Seattle of San Francisco that was a blowout that
- 26:33Speaker 2: But other than that, these games have been epic. These
- 26:36Speaker 2: have been some really good games and like I said,
- 26:39Speaker 2: I was not a believer in Caleb Williams from Chicago.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I was not a believer. He turned me into a
- 26:44Speaker 2: believer last night, and I wanted to.
- 26:47Speaker 6: Unbelievable.
- 26:48Speaker 2: But even mass Stafford, I mean the passes he was making,
- 26:51Speaker 2: He's not a spring chicken anymore. I mean he was
- 26:53Speaker 2: throwing darts and dimes just all over the field. Great games.
- 26:57Speaker 2: So who do we got? So we got, uh, we'll
- 27:00Speaker 2: start with New England versus Denver. Who we got? See now,
- 27:05Speaker 2: if if we're going to Denver, we're going.
- 27:08Speaker 5: Right, yes, yes, If bon Nicks we're still in the game,
- 27:12Speaker 5: you know, then then that would be an easy decision
- 27:14Speaker 5: for me.
- 27:15Speaker 7: Wo.
- 27:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I would have said Broncos.
- 27:17Speaker 5: But now that they're going with their their backup quarterback,
- 27:20Speaker 5: you know, with him being out and uh he is
- 27:22Speaker 5: it May? I think it's Drake May. He's like, they're
- 27:25Speaker 5: the young quarterback for the Patriots that's supposed to be
- 27:29Speaker 5: really good. Yeah, he's he's good. So I think it's
- 27:32Speaker 5: it's kind of a toss up. Now I would have
- 27:35Speaker 5: gone definitely with Denver, but now I think the Patriots
- 27:37Speaker 5: may have an edge other than the travel.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Piece they got to go to Mahou, But I would
- 27:41Speaker 4: go with the Patriots on that one as well. I'm
- 27:44Speaker 4: going to go against both of you. I'm going to
- 27:46Speaker 4: go to Denver, just just for the I don't want
- 27:51Speaker 4: to be I don't want it's all three to be I.
- 27:54Speaker 5: Can you take something with our host, he's very contrary tonight.
- 27:59Speaker 2: I want to say I won. Then we got the
- 28:03Speaker 2: Then we have the next game. We got Seattle in
- 28:05Speaker 2: l A the rams uh. I think that NFC West
- 28:10Speaker 2: teams in the in the in the championship. That's gonna
- 28:13Speaker 2: be a good one.
- 28:13Speaker 5: I think I think that's the blowout game. You think
- 28:15Speaker 5: that's I think Seattle. I think Seattle they're they're fast
- 28:20Speaker 5: there sides of the ball. I think I think they
- 28:25Speaker 5: went it all to be honest, I did it would
- 28:29Speaker 5: be wo I hope, I hope I get that right
- 28:31Speaker 5: so I can like start the show like you did today.
- 28:34Speaker 6: Mind you guys, I had to let y'all know. I
- 28:40Speaker 6: told you I remember, remember, remember she.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Tried to forget it first forget I told you what.
- 28:51Speaker 6: That's so funny.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I would I would probably go with l A. And
- 28:54Speaker 2: now where is it is? It is it in? It's
- 28:57Speaker 2: in Seattle?
- 28:57Speaker 6: Right, yes, yes, man, Yeah, that's that's a hard one.
- 29:02Speaker 4: I mean, I'm gonna go with mas Staffords. I'm gonna
- 29:05Speaker 4: go with la to go back. I'm gonna go with
- 29:07Speaker 4: l A. All right, With l A, I think they'll
- 29:10Speaker 4: they'll get it.
- 29:11Speaker 6: You're gonna stay on that one, are you? That's all right?
- 29:13Speaker 2: Who you got coach?
- 29:14Speaker 4: I'm against you, against you, of us, all us.
- 29:25Speaker 6: Don't let him.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Yeah. The only reason I released this because she's on
- 29:29Speaker 2: the same side with me.
- 29:31Speaker 6: Every once in a while.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Right now, about a half an hour, maybe about an hour,
- 29:36Speaker 2: we're gonna have the college football. The one thing I
- 29:39Speaker 2: wanted to ask you guys, is that one thing they've
- 29:41Speaker 2: been saying about Indiana and they've been talking about they've
- 29:45Speaker 2: been kind of it's sort of been like a they've
- 29:49Speaker 2: been kind of going back and forth. It's been an
- 29:51Speaker 2: interesting argument for and against Indiana because what they were
- 29:55Speaker 2: saying on one hand is that this is an example
- 29:58Speaker 2: of how n I on the transfer portal, that you
- 30:00Speaker 2: could take a school like Indiana who's never won anything right, right,
- 30:04Speaker 2: and they can ascend to being in the championship. But
- 30:07Speaker 2: on the on the flip side of that, the player,
- 30:11Speaker 2: the average as by the older is me for Indiana,
- 30:14Speaker 2: Like they got a lot of twenties three twenty four,
- 30:18Speaker 2: six years old playing, So they got a lot of
- 30:20Speaker 2: quote unquote grown men playing for Indiana. So it's kind
- 30:24Speaker 2: of one of those things. It's like it's a good
- 30:26Speaker 2: part of the transfer portal in NIL, but it's also
- 30:29Speaker 2: showing the bad part. Like what do you guys, how
- 30:31Speaker 2: do you do you look at that positively or negatively?
- 30:34Speaker 4: I look at that as negative and I and I
- 30:37Speaker 4: think that NIL is should be if if we're gonna
- 30:43Speaker 4: do this that way, if we're gonna play around with NIL,
- 30:46Speaker 4: that's how we're gonna that's how we're gonna build our team.
- 30:50Speaker 4: There has to be an age limit or some some
- 30:53Speaker 4: peak to where you no longer are able to get
- 30:58Speaker 4: money to play. So for these red Shirts, let me
- 31:02Speaker 4: let me understand if I'm understanding right, you're saying that
- 31:06Speaker 4: you can still play if you're a certain age, but
- 31:08Speaker 4: you can't get money for no, you can't eat to me, like,
- 31:11Speaker 4: there's there should be an age limit toge sen you
- 31:14Speaker 4: out of college football.
- 31:16Speaker 5: See, I'm going to go against you on this because
- 31:19Speaker 5: I feel like it's a positive just because of the
- 31:21Speaker 5: fact teams like Indiana can take advantage of that. You know,
- 31:25Speaker 5: you're gonna have your younger players that can get the
- 31:27Speaker 5: money at Alabama and Georgia and those SEC teams that
- 31:30Speaker 5: are traditionally your powerhouses, that the younger kids are drawn
- 31:34Speaker 5: to those schools, the older students that have been out
- 31:38Speaker 5: there that okay, older adults, but they're all adults technically,
- 31:43Speaker 5: but to me, they're kids because look, you know, but anyway,
- 31:47Speaker 5: I think, you know, for these schools like Indiana, these
- 31:49Speaker 5: schools that aren't your typical football schools, for them to
- 31:53Speaker 5: be successful and reach a stage like this, we need that.
- 31:56Speaker 6: Type of system.
- 31:57Speaker 5: So you know, for the for the teams that aren't
- 31:59Speaker 5: traditionally in the in the talk for the college football
- 32:01Speaker 5: playoff or the championship game, this is this is something
- 32:04Speaker 5: that they need.
- 32:06Speaker 2: I agree with you, like I would say it's a positive.
- 32:09Speaker 2: The only thing I don't like is, you know, I
- 32:13Speaker 2: don't want to see a kid like you transferred this
- 32:15Speaker 2: is like your fifth school. That's the thing. I think
- 32:18Speaker 2: it just takes away.
- 32:19Speaker 4: But to that, like what if I'm what if I'm
- 32:24Speaker 4: twenty five and I've been to three schools and I'm
- 32:26Speaker 4: twenty five and I'm starting at quarterback, like and and
- 32:31Speaker 4: the's a kid eighteen that's starting on the other side
- 32:34Speaker 4: of the ball.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Come on, why aren't you in the league?
- 32:39Speaker 6: I mean, I mean.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Back the quarterback from Miami. He's telling them. They was
- 32:45Speaker 2: asking him like, did you go to class? Woooo?
- 32:47Speaker 4: He's like, man, I graduated two years ago, he said,
- 32:51Speaker 4: I graduated to So he's been in college all time.
- 32:57Speaker 4: There's nothing about that. There can't be anything about that.
- 33:00Speaker 4: That's okay.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think we can. But we just
- 33:03Speaker 2: say it's okay because again, a school like Indiana wouldn't
- 33:07Speaker 2: have been there, even Miami, but they're back because of this.
- 33:10Speaker 5: I mean, I think for these schools, like I said,
- 33:12Speaker 5: that a typical typically in the conversation for this game
- 33:15Speaker 5: or looking time.
- 33:19Speaker 2: So are we so? So are we? Okay?
- 33:23Speaker 4: We are we so interested in allowing everybody to get
- 33:27Speaker 4: in an opportunity?
- 33:29Speaker 2: You know what I would say? Because because.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Player.
- 33:38Speaker 4: But here's the thing though, prior to this, what do
- 33:40Speaker 4: we have? We had the same ten schools always make
- 33:44Speaker 4: it Alabama, l s U, Auburn, USC Texas, Notre Dame, Florida,
- 33:50Speaker 4: Florida State, Miami.
- 33:51Speaker 2: This was every single year they're in the place.
- 33:55Speaker 4: So now you because I because again I'm like I said,
- 33:58Speaker 4: I love coach saving all that, but I think a
- 33:59Speaker 4: lot of them coaches, including coach, but got out of
- 34:01Speaker 4: coaching because you he knew he can't stack talent no more.
- 34:05Speaker 4: So you can't have the the second best running back
- 34:08Speaker 4: in the entire country. He don't even start for you,
- 34:11Speaker 4: like he's on your bench, he's running down tackling the kickoff.
- 34:15Speaker 4: You can't have them because that kid's going somewhere else.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Now. So I like it because now it's a fair
- 34:21Speaker 2: I'm fine.
- 34:22Speaker 4: I'm fine with that. My only my only argument is age.
- 34:28Speaker 6: So you want to, okay, what would be the appropriate age.
- 34:31Speaker 4: For you whatever whatever the natural grade or age that
- 34:34Speaker 4: you should graduate in college.
- 34:36Speaker 6: But there is one, is there?
- 34:38Speaker 4: So that would be like twenty years? Yeah, you got
- 34:40Speaker 4: four years in college as an athlete. Three Yeah, you're done.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Yeah. And if you don't go to the league, you
- 34:48Speaker 2: don't go to the league.
- 34:49Speaker 5: If these guys are getting second chances and when you know,
- 34:52Speaker 5: and that's the positive.
- 34:54Speaker 4: You'll get on second page. But I want a second
- 34:56Speaker 4: chance in the league. Can I go back and play?
- 34:59Speaker 2: No? But the thing is like, I mean, to your point,
- 35:03Speaker 2: somebody call you me, just call me. But put to
- 35:09Speaker 2: your point, I mean kind of looking at it from
- 35:11Speaker 2: your perspective. I mean, you do have like twenty six playing.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Do you really know you GOYI there's a couple of
- 35:22Speaker 4: there's a couple of things.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I think I think Carson Beck is about twenty he's
- 35:27Speaker 2: twenty four to twenty five. I mean, we we're seeing it.
- 35:30Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know. I'm not sure. We talked
- 35:31Speaker 2: about it last week, but we're seeing like the college
- 35:33Speaker 2: basketball guys like they've signed professional contracts to play overseas.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Them guys is gone on thirds and they're coming up.
- 35:41Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's that's And at that age.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Man, you got so much more like just you're you're
- 35:47Speaker 2: way stronger, You filled out your body. You got so
- 35:49Speaker 2: much knowledge that and be seen and to that.
- 35:52Speaker 6: Like so it's not fair, is what you're saying.
- 35:54Speaker 5: No, the physical count somebody Gibson for Carl, he wants
- 35:59Speaker 5: another year of eligibility.
- 36:00Speaker 4: The physicality of age that you're able to want to
- 36:06Speaker 4: hit a guy, can hit a guy, is different.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Than when you were younger. Because I tell you what, Indiana,
- 36:12Speaker 2: be out there hit.
- 36:14Speaker 6: They're good.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Like I was watching them burn the playoffs and I was,
- 36:17Speaker 2: you know, and I had to watch consecutive games and
- 36:20Speaker 2: I didn't you know, I watched them a little bit
- 36:21Speaker 2: during the regular season, but I've watched every playoff game
- 36:24Speaker 2: they play, and they be out there. Land would like,
- 36:28Speaker 2: it's it's really you can tell the physicality because I'm
- 36:31Speaker 2: looking at them playing Ohio State and I could not
- 36:34Speaker 2: believe that they just our man out muscled Ohio State.
- 36:38Speaker 2: They was out there hit.
- 36:39Speaker 5: So so let me ask you guys this question. So
- 36:42Speaker 5: obviously Miami's playing at home, you know, that's just way
- 36:45Speaker 5: the cars fell. They get a home game for them.
- 36:48Speaker 6: Do you think that's going to play a role in it?
- 36:50Speaker 5: I mean astars like the fans, I think so. Somebody
- 36:54Speaker 5: said today or I think it was on Pat MacAfee
- 36:57Speaker 5: something about well they didn't think Indiana traveled well. Well,
- 37:00Speaker 5: he started naming all this, all these famous alumni that
- 37:03Speaker 5: that you you would have been surprised at the list.
- 37:06Speaker 6: Like Mark Cuban attended university.
- 37:08Speaker 5: He felt like, you know that that there's going to
- 37:11Speaker 5: be more of a turnout than people think.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I think. I think I think in the past Miami.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Staying in Miami for the championship game would have been
- 37:20Speaker 2: a problem. But now because you got grown men, ain't
- 37:23Speaker 2: nobody getting in trouble. Ain't nobody You ain't heard, We
- 37:28Speaker 2: ain't heard, no controversy. No, right, this player got arrested.
- 37:32Speaker 2: We don't really hear that. We don't hear that. Those
- 37:34Speaker 2: things don't happen as much anymore, right, So I don't
- 37:38Speaker 2: I think it's to to your point least, it's a
- 37:41Speaker 2: it's a tass. It's a toss toss up, you know
- 37:43Speaker 2: what I'm saying, Because again, you got grown men on
- 37:45Speaker 2: both sides, so they're not really they've been here before.
- 37:48Speaker 6: Then they're done that. Carl, you disagree, I'll say this.
- 37:55Speaker 2: I think Miami playing at home and.
- 38:02Speaker 4: The history that's what we watched, Yeah, and the history
- 38:06Speaker 4: of that franchise and championships is huge. And former players
- 38:13Speaker 4: who played in the league, right that were great players
- 38:17Speaker 4: there they're showing up and all of them, yeah, yeah,
- 38:20Speaker 4: they're gonna show yeah. And to me, I'm not guarantee
- 38:24Speaker 4: I'm not saying that's guaranteeing them a reason to win.
- 38:28Speaker 4: But I think I think for the players and the coach,
- 38:33Speaker 4: I mean, make it even worse on the coach.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, but I see, I just don't I
- 38:40Speaker 2: just don't know if.
- 38:43Speaker 4: If that's if if you can, if you can put
- 38:48Speaker 4: that team out there, you put the University of Miami
- 38:50Speaker 4: out there with all of the guys who have been
- 38:53Speaker 4: there before, have won national championships, all those kind of things,
- 38:58Speaker 4: and you're a you're a nineteen twenty year old kid
- 39:02Speaker 4: out there playing for the University of Miami and you're
- 39:05Speaker 4: looking at these newes.
- 39:06Speaker 2: First of all, your starstruck.
- 39:08Speaker 6: Yeah that's a good point.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Are you A lot of these guys have probably been
- 39:13Speaker 4: around at practice and all that, But are.
- 39:15Speaker 2: You star truck though? Because these guys are these are
- 39:17Speaker 2: these are young kids. I don't even know if that well,
- 39:19Speaker 2: they're not a grown man who watched them. You know,
- 39:24Speaker 2: I walked, I went.
- 39:26Speaker 4: There's guys you see in the league when you first
- 39:31Speaker 4: get there, and bro, you you you're starstruck by you're
- 39:34Speaker 4: looking at Lawrence Taylor.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Bro, you ain't sitting down on the bench.
- 39:37Speaker 4: You're watching him play because you're like, oh, I got
- 39:40Speaker 4: to see him, you know, I.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Can't imagine these young guys.
- 39:46Speaker 4: And then the foolishness that the one player for the
- 39:50Speaker 4: University of Miami.
- 39:52Speaker 2: On the side. Don't leave him alone, to leave forty
- 39:56Speaker 2: seven sety seven yet alone? That is to me, if
- 40:05Speaker 2: I'm the head coach, he ain't on my sideline. Did
- 40:07Speaker 2: you you gotta be? Ye gotta be? He gotta be.
- 40:11Speaker 4: Didn't have cheer, didn't cheer? No, you didn't cheer. Don't
- 40:15Speaker 4: act the food you don't. I don't want you acting me.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Let me ask you this. Did y'all hear the story
- 40:21Speaker 2: about because you know, he came up with the.
- 40:24Speaker 6: Yeah he did.
- 40:25Speaker 5: That was he was like, are we talking about Michael
- 40:28Speaker 5: Michael Irvan?
- 40:30Speaker 2: He from what they say and again I'm just going
- 40:32Speaker 2: off what they say. He said he came up as
- 40:34Speaker 2: a commercial that was doing something some something, and he
- 40:36Speaker 2: came up with the you right, okay, y'all. Story of
- 40:41Speaker 2: why he said the you instead of saying say this okay.
- 40:48Speaker 2: I think he didn't want to say hurricane because I
- 40:51Speaker 2: think Miami had just had a hurricane like in the area,
- 40:55Speaker 2: like during that time or something. And he also didn't
- 40:58Speaker 2: want to say anything with Caine in it, so I'll
- 41:00Speaker 2: leave it there. So he came with the mark of
- 41:06Speaker 2: the Youth as the problem. You figure it out, and.
- 41:16Speaker 4: I will make this case, and and at least that
- 41:19Speaker 4: you can jump in after after I say this, I
- 41:23Speaker 4: think the University of Miami probably has the strongest and
- 41:27Speaker 4: the most decorated football players in the league over the time,
- 41:37Speaker 4: from from like college to the league college league, and
- 41:41Speaker 4: and and to be part of that, yes, and to
- 41:43Speaker 4: be part of that and to be welcomed back to
- 41:48Speaker 4: be somewhere on that sideline.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I'm not saying all of them are there, but you can't.
- 41:54Speaker 2: You can't leave us seven forty seven. He not be
- 42:00Speaker 2: on my side. My god, I look on my side.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Well he ain't.
- 42:10Speaker 5: Let's talk about this game. Let's let's get off that conversation.
- 42:14Speaker 5: What do you think the keys are to Indiana and Miami?
- 42:17Speaker 2: Who?
- 42:17Speaker 7: What?
- 42:18Speaker 6: What does each team have to do to be able
- 42:20Speaker 6: to win tonight?
- 42:21Speaker 2: You think, all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna jump in
- 42:23Speaker 2: first holiday.
- 42:24Speaker 4: The one thing the only way you beat Miami is
- 42:27Speaker 4: you're gonna have to beat them up.
- 42:29Speaker 2: You're gonna have to beat them up.
- 42:31Speaker 4: They're too athletic, they're too fast, they're too confident, too
- 42:36Speaker 4: for you just to be out there just grabbing them
- 42:38Speaker 4: putting them down. At some point they're going to score.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Some point, they're gonna make a big play. Some point,
- 42:44Speaker 4: they're getting the first down that they need. They're not
- 42:47Speaker 4: going to They're gonna show up like they're supposed to win. Okay,
- 42:52Speaker 4: I would say neither one of these teams have like
- 42:56Speaker 4: prolific and great offenses. I think each team has a
- 43:00Speaker 4: solid quarterback. I don't think either team quarterback is great
- 43:03Speaker 4: great college I don't think he's a great If you
- 43:05Speaker 4: look at his status, he's not a great college for
- 43:07Speaker 4: he won the Heisman.
- 43:08Speaker 2: This is a weak quarterback class. He's not. Neither one
- 43:10Speaker 2: of these are great quarterback. So what I'm gonna say
- 43:13Speaker 2: is that number one, offensively, neither team can afford a
- 43:17Speaker 2: bunch of turnovers. You cannot afford turnovers. And I would
- 43:21Speaker 2: also say, and people you know, take it for what
- 43:23Speaker 2: it is, your punter is gonna be key in this game, because,
- 43:28Speaker 2: like I said, I don't think you're gonna have long,
- 43:30Speaker 2: sustainable drives. It's gonna be a lot of three and outs,
- 43:34Speaker 2: and your punter has to get off good punts and
- 43:36Speaker 2: pitch you in good field position. So I think the
- 43:38Speaker 2: punter for each team is going to be critical now
- 43:41Speaker 2: individually Miami, because they're playing in Miami. You can't let
- 43:46Speaker 2: the emotions of that. You have to control your emotions
- 43:50Speaker 2: of the side, No cuche, but you gotta. Miami's gotta
- 43:56Speaker 2: control their emotions because now all the pressure is on them.
- 43:59Speaker 2: So they they really got the pressure, right, Yeah, And
- 44:03Speaker 2: I will say, you know, for the other side, you
- 44:07Speaker 2: can't let the because I don't think Indiana really has
- 44:10Speaker 2: although they're number one, I don't think they have the
- 44:12Speaker 2: pressure in this.
- 44:13Speaker 6: Okay.
- 44:13Speaker 2: You know in Indiana, for their side, you can't make
- 44:17Speaker 2: the big mistakes and you got to come out there
- 44:19Speaker 2: and play bully ball. You gotta hit them.
- 44:21Speaker 6: Yeah, you feel like it's going to be a low
- 44:23Speaker 6: scoring game.
- 44:23Speaker 2: It sounds like I would say seventeen thirteen, maybe twenty
- 44:27Speaker 2: seventeen is gonna be tight. I could see over time.
- 44:30Speaker 5: Okay, Well, I think there's two keys for each each team,
- 44:33Speaker 5: and I really feel like with Miami they have to
- 44:35Speaker 5: they have to generate a rushing at talk obviously, and
- 44:38Speaker 5: also they have to put pressure on Mendoza. Yeah, so
- 44:41Speaker 5: you know that that's their two specific jobs. I think
- 44:44Speaker 5: with Indiana, you know, they they led the nation this
- 44:46Speaker 5: year in turnover margin. So if they can keep doing
- 44:49Speaker 5: what they're doing, you know, keep keep their turnover rates
- 44:53Speaker 5: low and getting those and getting those turnovers you know
- 44:57Speaker 5: from Miami, I think that's the key for them. But
- 45:00Speaker 5: but you know, and here's the thing, guys, when this airs,
- 45:03Speaker 5: this is gonna be long gone over, so we may
- 45:06Speaker 5: all look like, you know, fools whenever this is this
- 45:08Speaker 5: air is only on w c HS.
- 45:10Speaker 6: But but I think it's gonna be a great game.
- 45:13Speaker 2: I can't wait.
- 45:14Speaker 4: I do think, I do think it's gonna be I
- 45:16Speaker 4: really do think it's gonna be a good game. And
- 45:18Speaker 4: I do, like Hollis said, I think it's gonna be
- 45:21Speaker 4: something close. But I will say this, Hollis, if somebody
- 45:26Speaker 4: gets gets a run, you could end up getting a
- 45:30Speaker 4: blowout on one side too.
- 45:33Speaker 2: I agree with that.
- 45:33Speaker 4: You that you know, so either to the point of
- 45:37Speaker 4: defense is playing as as well as they should, as
- 45:40Speaker 4: well as they're supposed to. You got a close game,
- 45:43Speaker 4: no ie one of them. If if you found a
- 45:46Speaker 4: way to beat that defense, then you're in trouble. Now,
- 45:51Speaker 4: who let's make predictions.
- 45:53Speaker 5: Who Oh you want to get first, Carl?
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll go first.
- 45:59Speaker 4: And and and I've said, I can't remember the team
- 46:02Speaker 4: I said last week, So that that tells you I'm
- 46:05Speaker 4: starting all over. Lord, I'm starting all over again, us
- 46:12Speaker 4: mad can you check the show last week? So I'm
- 46:20Speaker 4: gonna I'm gonna, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna take the
- 46:23Speaker 4: long shot and I'm gonna take Indiana.
- 46:27Speaker 2: I love seven for seven, I love the playmaker, and
- 46:31Speaker 2: I think this is actually great for college football to
- 46:34Speaker 2: have Miami back, because I agree because I think of
- 46:37Speaker 2: all the schools in college football, Miami has its has
- 46:41Speaker 2: a distinct culture. It's a culture around the Miami Hurricanes
- 46:45Speaker 2: and everything that it represents from the early eighties all
- 46:48Speaker 2: the way to now. And it's sort of and it's
- 46:50Speaker 2: and it's a continuity that's built within that. I'm gonna
- 46:52Speaker 2: comment on that later so before we do so, But
- 46:56Speaker 2: but I gotta go with the West Virginia guy Signetti.
- 46:58Speaker 2: I thought he's done a job. And I want to
- 47:00Speaker 2: see somebody different winning in college So I want to
- 47:03Speaker 2: see history. So I'm going to Indian.
- 47:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I totally. I'm kind of team Hollist on this.
- 47:09Speaker 5: I think Fernando, you know, Mendoz is going to have
- 47:11Speaker 5: a great game. You know, if he can just continue
- 47:13Speaker 5: his accuracy and you know, his decisive play, especially in
- 47:17Speaker 5: the red zone. You know, and they've they've proven that
- 47:20Speaker 5: they belong here. I mean, you know the way they've
- 47:22Speaker 5: man handled the teams before getting to this this particular
- 47:25Speaker 5: game and undefeated.
- 47:27Speaker 6: You know, I'm I'm kind of leaning. I'm I'm team
- 47:31Speaker 6: Hoosiers tonight.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Do we think at that? Do we think, oh, that's yeah? Wow? Yeah,
- 47:39Speaker 2: I was just looking at some stats. Indiana has has
- 47:41Speaker 2: a program, has five hundred and thirty wins to seven
- 47:44Speaker 2: hundred and fifteen losses. Miami has six hundred and eighty
- 47:47Speaker 2: six wins to three hundred ninety three.
- 47:49Speaker 6: This is Indiana. This really is their first rodeo.
- 47:52Speaker 2: That has five national titles Indiana zero. Miami has two
- 47:56Speaker 2: Heisman winners Miami, Indiana one. This year was the historical perspective.
- 48:04Speaker 4: When you look at history, that speak, that speaks loudly.
- 48:10Speaker 4: I have to ask the question of Okay, so everybody
- 48:15Speaker 4: understands the history of Miami, okay, like and if you don't,
- 48:19Speaker 4: you're just too young.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Miami has was, in one specific span of time, was
- 48:28Speaker 4: the most dominant football team, was producing the best and
- 48:34Speaker 4: the most NFL players, and there's there's been a change
- 48:39Speaker 4: to that. And to your point, Hollis about Indiana, that's
- 48:43Speaker 4: a that's a that's we used to know that as
- 48:45Speaker 4: a basketball.
- 48:46Speaker 2: School solely, you know, And now here they are deservingly
- 48:53Speaker 2: in the championship game here.
- 48:57Speaker 4: I I think, being new to this for Indiana, I
- 49:04Speaker 4: think it's gonna be hard for them to win.
- 49:05Speaker 2: You think, so I do? Are you changing your pick?
- 49:08Speaker 2: I'm just saying I just I just don't you think
- 49:14Speaker 2: they'll struggle. I think I think.
- 49:15Speaker 4: Unless they come out and and and be able to play.
- 49:20Speaker 6: But when was the last time Miami really?
- 49:25Speaker 2: But are you making the argument that culturally they're sort
- 49:28Speaker 2: of wrapped in it? Yes? Is that what you're saying.
- 49:31Speaker 4: I'm saying that, you know, the University of Miami to
- 49:34Speaker 4: them and to the fans, but they were in it
- 49:36Speaker 4: last year, you know. And and for Indiana here we are,
- 49:42Speaker 4: this is new and we can act like however we
- 49:44Speaker 4: want to act.
- 49:45Speaker 2: But so you're saying there's some pressure on them because
- 49:48Speaker 2: it's like this is the first you.
- 49:50Speaker 4: Can fake it. You can fake it, you can do
- 49:52Speaker 4: all that, but you're going to have to play.
- 49:55Speaker 2: They're going to have to play.
- 49:58Speaker 6: I think they're the real deal.
- 49:59Speaker 2: I mean, I question that you can't get here with us.
- 50:01Speaker 6: They're all they're all you know men.
- 50:06Speaker 2: They they yeah, but I do.
- 50:14Speaker 4: I just this is one of those kind of games
- 50:16Speaker 4: to where you know until you all's point about age,
- 50:20Speaker 4: you know, but age and being new to this champion,
- 50:24Speaker 4: this this beach going after the championship.
- 50:27Speaker 6: Signetti's good.
- 50:28Speaker 5: I mean, I'm telling you what he's He's an awesome coach.
- 50:31Speaker 5: I mean, I think that's what's gotten this this you know,
- 50:33Speaker 5: team together. They really didn't have a lot of five
- 50:35Speaker 5: Star Wars recruits. It's what he did with what he
- 50:38Speaker 5: had and with the transfer port.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Yeah, what's crazy. He brought a lot of James Madison
- 50:42Speaker 2: guys over here.
- 50:42Speaker 6: Yep, he sure did.
- 50:44Speaker 4: And and that's interesting too, Hollis, because the reality of that,
- 50:48Speaker 4: man is, shows players can play at at at at
- 50:52Speaker 4: multiple levels. You just you just have to be on
- 50:54Speaker 4: the field with those kind of other players and you
- 50:56Speaker 4: just fit in. To me, it just shows that to me,
- 50:58Speaker 4: I love it because it shows that like if we
- 51:03Speaker 4: if they and again I'm not gonna comment on the
- 51:05Speaker 4: n C double A, you know what I think about them,
- 51:08Speaker 4: But if it was really done correctly. You know, we
- 51:11Speaker 4: can have those kids who can start kids now would
- 51:14Speaker 4: understand that you could start at a D two one
- 51:16Speaker 4: double a whatever, and you can make it up like
- 51:19Speaker 4: you don't have to go to none of these schools
- 51:21Speaker 4: starting out.
- 51:22Speaker 2: You can really play your way up.
- 51:24Speaker 5: You're both contradicting yourselves because you both are talking about
- 51:27Speaker 5: the transfers and there's too many. But yet you're saying
- 51:30Speaker 5: they can start at a lower level and work their
- 51:31Speaker 5: way which is transferring multiple times, probably especially if you're
- 51:37Speaker 5: starting like at State or at Fairmont if you want to.
- 51:41Speaker 5: You know, probably a lot of these guys that are
- 51:43Speaker 5: playing for Indiana may have started at that level and
- 51:45Speaker 5: work their way up and that's why.
- 51:47Speaker 2: They're fort I mean, you've seen a quarterback for Mississippi State.
- 51:51Speaker 2: I mean, yes, excuse me for old miss he started
- 51:54Speaker 2: at a D two fair State in Michigan, So I'm ford.
- 51:57Speaker 2: I mean, if you got an opportunity to go now again,
- 52:00Speaker 2: I would say that there probably needs to be some
- 52:03Speaker 2: sort of limit or some sort of cash buy out.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Like so if I'm at fair State and my quarterbacks
- 52:10Speaker 2: my championship quarterback, and now I'm got to lose my
- 52:12Speaker 2: quarterback to you. Yeah, whatever you're paying him, I get
- 52:15Speaker 2: a yeah, I need some of that too to go
- 52:17Speaker 2: back into the so so I think there has to
- 52:20Speaker 2: be some of that, and there has to be some
- 52:22Speaker 2: some some tampering clauses around us too. You can't be
- 52:26Speaker 2: recruiting it when you you know, you lose a game
- 52:28Speaker 2: and now you're getting recruited by the other coach.
- 52:30Speaker 6: Well, good point, good point.
- 52:31Speaker 2: All right.
- 52:32Speaker 4: Well we've we've gone over a little bit, but we've
- 52:36Speaker 4: been fighting all night, so that's all good. So it's
- 52:38Speaker 4: all good. All right, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you
- 52:41Speaker 4: enjoyed the show, and we'll be
- 52:42Speaker 2: Back again next week.
