- 2:53news, Massachusetts' new boating law is now in
- 2:57effect, and here is what you need to know. Under
- 3:01this law, boaters must complete a safety course
- 3:03or face fines. The Hanson Malone Boater Safety
- 3:07Act requires motorboat operators to finish a
- 3:10state -approved safety course and carry proof
- 3:13of certification while on the water. Effective
- 3:17April 1st, boat operators born after January
- 3:201st, 1989 must obtain a certificate to legally
- 3:24operate a motorboat, while those born on or before
- 3:28that date have until April 1st, 2028. This legislation
- 3:33is named after David Hansen and Paul Malone,
- 3:37advocates for boater safety. Now on to sports.
- 3:46Rory McIlroy grew up an ocean away, idolizing
- 3:50Tiger Woods, watching deep into the night as
- 3:53a seven -year -old when Tiger first won the Masters.
- 3:56The kid from Northern Ireland had the game and
- 3:59the charisma, so he was paired with his boyhood
- 4:02hero in a Nike television advertisement. In a
- 4:05world where the concept of a next Tiger seemed
- 4:08absurd, someone still had to emerge. McElroy
- 4:12never seemed unnerved by the pressure of following
- 4:15the supernova that was Woods. He was the chosen
- 4:19one, the face of the next generation in a sport
- 4:22that needed a lion. In local sports, Mark Kostelik
- 4:27scored with nine minutes and 38 seconds remaining,
- 4:30leading the Bees to a 3 -2 victory over Columbus,
- 4:34snapping a five -game losing streak and securing
- 4:37the first Eastern Conference wildcard spot. Sean
- 4:41Curley shined against his former team with one
- 4:44goal and two assists, while Henry Jokardju added
- 4:48a goal and an assist for Boston. Columbus' Mason
- 4:52Marchment and Adam Fantilli each scored, but
- 4:55the Blue Jackets fell behind in playoff contention
- 4:58after losing five of their last seven games.
- 5:02Next up, the Bruins will host New Jersey on Tuesday
- 5:05night. In top news. Early forecasts suggest this
- 5:11year may see the strongest El Nino in a decade,
- 5:15bringing with it more extreme weather. Forecasters
- 5:19predict the possibility that a powerful super
- 5:22El Nino will take effect this year. This phenomenon
- 5:26could spur punishing drought in some regions
- 5:28and severe storms in others, while also causing
- 5:31the Earth's temperature to rise. The National
- 5:34Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted
- 5:37that El Nino could begin this spring or summer.
- 5:41There is a 25 % chance of a very strong El Nino
- 5:45and a 50 % chance of a strong El Nino. In business
- 5:51news, stocks clinched a second straight winning
- 5:55week despite a lackluster session on Friday as
- 5:58investors brace for the start of first quarter
- 6:00earnings season in the week ahead. Last week,
- 6:04the S &P 500 rose more than 3 .5%. The Dow Jones
- 6:09Industrial Average rose 3%, while the tech -heavy
- 6:13Nasdaq Composite gained over 4%. All three indexes
- 6:18remain in the red for the year, but are within
- 6:201 % of erasing all losses. This coming week,
- 6:24big bank earnings will feature on the calendar,
- 6:26with major firms set to report results. Traders
- 6:30will keep close tabs on high -level negotiations
- 6:33between the United States and Iran this weekend
- 6:36in Pakistan. In crypto movement, Bitcoin is down
- 6:411 .5 % over the weekend to $71 ,000. Ethereum
- 6:47is unchanged at just over $2 ,000. And XRP is

- 7:45Let's talk tech. This detox may erase 10 years
- 7:49of social media brain damage, researchers say.
- 7:53Studies show that taking even short breaks could
- 7:56reverse measures of cognitive decline. A young
- 8:00woman described to a jury what it was like to
- 8:02lose control of her life to social media. She
- 8:06began as a child, and over time, the habit expanded
- 8:09to fill nearly every available hour, with late
- 8:12nights bleeding into early mornings, sleep gradually
- 8:15displaced. As her use intensified, so did her
- 8:19distress. anxiety, depression, and a growing
- 8:23fixation on her appearance. In a landmark trial
- 8:26against Meta and YouTube, the jury found the
- 8:29companies negligent and ordered them to pay her
- 8:32$6 million in damages. And in entertainment news,
- 8:39The Hunger Games' The Sunrise on the Reaping
- 8:43reveals its first footage. Al Fanning, Kieran
- 8:47Culkin, and Ralph Fiennes are among the stars
- 8:49in this prequel feature directed by Francis Lawrence,
- 8:53which Lionsgate releases later this year. The
- 8:56movie is gearing up for its big fight. The first
- 9:00footage was revealed on Friday, showcasing cast
- 9:03members such as Al Fanning as Effie Trinket and
- 9:06Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow. The
- 9:11film hits theaters on November 20th as the latest
- 9:14installment in the franchise that began with
- 9:16the initial Hunger Games in 2012. The story takes
- 9:20place in Payneham. Well, alrighty folks, it's
- 9:25time for the quote of the day. And today, our
- 9:29quote comes from the American author and motivational
- 9:31speaker, Tony Robbins. And he said, The only
- 9:36limit to your impact is your imagination and
- 9:39commitment. This reflects the theme of human
- 9:42problem -solving and teamwork, as demonstrated
- 9:45by the Apollo 13 astronauts' resourcefulness
- 9:47and ingenuity in overcoming critical challenges.
- 9:52And that's a wrap for this morning. You can check
