- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Hello, Big Blue Nation. Welcome to Just the Cats. My
- 0:15Speaker 2: name is Michael Bennett on this Thursday, October 22nd. I
- 0:19Speaker 2: hope everybody's having a great day so far as my
- 0:22Speaker 2: good friend is going to get a haircut right now.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You know, we were just talking. Good morning, Justin.
- 0:27Speaker 1: How are you? Good morning.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I'm confused.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I know.
- 0:31Speaker 2: We were just talking about my buddy has his horse
- 0:33Speaker 2: racing today.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Mike Snyder?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:36Speaker 2: He just texted me. I'm listening, Michael. What about the haircut?
- 0:41Speaker 2: He's getting a haircut, right? Well, he was listening on
- 0:43Speaker 2: his way to go get a haircut. See, that's why
- 0:45Speaker 2: I'm confused, because I thought you were talking about me.
- 0:48Speaker 1: No. I'm in desperate need of a haircut. I would agree.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Worse than I've ever maybe needed one in my life.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Probably need a shower, too.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Nah, I think I'm good on that case. I'm just kidding.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But no, I'm scheduled to get a haircut this... Oh, really? Yeah. Oh, see,
- 1:03Speaker 1: I missed mine. I was confused.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I missed mine week before last. I normally get one
- 1:07Speaker 2: once a month, and I wasn't in town. I was
- 1:10Speaker 2: up in New York, so I didn't get to get one.
- 1:11Speaker 2: So I'm kind of disappointed about that. I don't think
- 1:14Speaker 2: I've had one since April.
- 1:16Speaker 1: What? Yeah. Really?
- 1:18Speaker 2: I could not go that long.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Well, because I do the whole buzz my head thing
- 1:21Speaker 1: in the summer. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I couldn't go that long. So, yeah. So, Mike Snyder,
- 1:28Speaker 2: he heard us talking about him a couple minutes ago
- 1:30Speaker 2: when I was being rude.
- 1:31Speaker 1: What up, Mike?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. I wasn't really trying to be. It's just like,
- 1:35Speaker 2: I got other things I got to do. I can't
- 1:37Speaker 2: ride with you. He understood. But it's like, oh, the
- 1:40Speaker 2: way I said it was just so rude.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I would agree. Yeah, it was.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I fully admit it. I readily admit it. And I'm sorry,
- 1:46Speaker 2: Mike Snyder. It's not that I love riding with him.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I've been trying to figure out how can I change
- 1:51Speaker 2: my schedule and ride with him because I love riding
- 1:54Speaker 2: with him. Because we've been friends, good Lord. I bet
- 1:58Speaker 2: you 40 years.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 2: We've known each other since high school. So but but
- 2:05Speaker 2: I'm a little older than him. He's a great guy. No,
- 2:08Speaker 2: Mike's a good guy. So I always like it, especially
- 2:10Speaker 2: because we like talking horses. That's all we'll talk about
- 2:13Speaker 2: is just horses. So, yeah, there you go.
- 2:16Speaker 1: No, don't y'all don't delve into life. A little bit.
- 2:20Speaker 2: We talk about our families a little bit because I've
- 2:22Speaker 2: watched his kids grow up and he's watched mine grow up.
- 2:27Speaker 2: If you wanted to have a conversation about life, I
- 2:30Speaker 2: would like to know where you would start. If you
- 2:33Speaker 2: and I are sitting there by ourselves not talking to
- 2:36Speaker 2: anybody else like we're doing right now, what would be
- 2:38Speaker 2: the first thing you would want to talk about as
- 2:40Speaker 2: far as life?
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'd be curious about your favorite memories as a kid.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Maybe your earliest memories as a kid.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Ooh, really?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So you want that kind of life. Yeah, I mean,
- 2:55Speaker 2: let's just start at the bottom and work our way up.
- 2:58Speaker 2: How long is this conversation going to go, by the way?
- 3:00Speaker 1: However you want it. However long you want it to go. Well,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you know me.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I don't like talking about myself.
- 3:05Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah. They can talk about me. I love
- 3:07Speaker 1: talking about myself. Okay, there you go.
- 3:08Speaker 2: We can talk about you. That's an interesting question. What's
- 3:12Speaker 2: my favorite first memory?
- 3:14Speaker 1: Probably.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Probably Christmas with my mom and dad and my family
- 3:20Speaker 2: are some of my favorite ones. I remember as a
- 3:22Speaker 2: little kid, we went to Mexico City for Christmas.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Oh, that's awesome. Which was kind of weird. Really?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Do you want to be away from home in a
- 3:30Speaker 2: hotel room?
- 3:31Speaker 1: Especially somewhere warm?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Well, okay, it was warm. Yeah, we went to Acapulco
- 3:36Speaker 2: and all this kind of stuff. But, I mean, is
- 3:37Speaker 2: that what you would like to do? I like being
- 3:40Speaker 2: at home for Christmas. Home is for the holidays. Isn't
- 3:45Speaker 2: that the famous line from a commercial?
- 3:47Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 3:48Speaker 2: And I don't know. It didn't work very well because
- 3:50Speaker 2: I don't remember what the commercial is.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Do you? Hallmark? Is it Hallmark?
- 3:55Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, because it is kind of cool. It's a coffee
- 4:01Speaker 2: commercial where the guy hasn't been home in a long time.
- 4:03Speaker 1: What's the phrase again?
- 4:04Speaker 2: Home is for the holidays. Are you looking it up?
- 4:07Speaker 1: I am.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Okay, good. So I don't know. There's that one famous
- 4:12Speaker 2: coffee commercial where the guy comes home and he's making
- 4:15Speaker 2: coffee and his little sister wakes up and she's all
- 4:17Speaker 2: excited he's home. You ever see the videos of the
- 4:21Speaker 2: military guys that come home and they go see their kids?
- 4:24Speaker 2: It always brings a tear to my eye. So I'm
- 4:26Speaker 2: not seeing anything for coffee.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah. But the first one that does pop up is Hallmark.
- 4:31Speaker 2: It is Hallmark. Okay. I think you're right. It's Hallmark.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Toyota, Sears, Samsung. Bed, bath, and beyond.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Bed, bath, and beyond?
- 4:40Speaker 1: They've all used it, yeah. Oh, they have?
- 4:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:42Speaker 1: It's a very popular Christmas phrase.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Well, see, that would probably... What would be your first
- 4:49Speaker 2: memory growing up then?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Um... I mean, mine's a bad one, to be honest
- 4:57Speaker 2: with you.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Ew. Yeah, I don't really want to share that one.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Oh, let's not talk about that. No, no, I want
- 5:01Speaker 2: the good stuff, not the bad stuff.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I mean, my earliest memories are, we used to go
- 5:06Speaker 1: to Holiday World every summer.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Ah, I like this.
- 5:09Speaker 1: We never did the whole, I might be the only
- 5:12Speaker 1: kid in the world that never got to go to Disney.
- 5:14Speaker 1: disney world yeah but so we never did that but
- 5:16Speaker 1: we did go to holiday world every summer that was
- 5:18Speaker 1: always a good time yeah those were fun memories yeah
- 5:20Speaker 1: see going uh going to disney world my mom and
- 5:23Speaker 1: dad took me a few times and i remember one
- 5:26Speaker 1: of the first times there was a super tramp song
- 5:28Speaker 1: that was really popular at the time it's like oh
- 5:31Speaker 1: my gosh every time i hear that super tramp song
- 5:34Speaker 1: you know the band super tramp right okay every time
- 5:37Speaker 1: i hear that song takes me right back to disney
- 5:39Speaker 1: world with my mom and dad you know which one
- 5:40Speaker 1: it was Uh, right off that I don't, it wasn't
- 5:43Speaker 1: the long way home, but it's from that same album.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Goodbye stranger. Okay.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Um, yeah, yeah. I'll look it up in a couple
- 5:52Speaker 2: of minutes and I'll be able to tell you. So, uh,
- 5:55Speaker 2: but yeah, those are my favorite memories are with my
- 5:59Speaker 2: mom and dad. And then growing up, that is. And
- 6:03Speaker 2: then the older I got, obviously my favorite memories are
- 6:05Speaker 2: with Patricia. And then obviously with the Bullies. And I
- 6:10Speaker 2: can tell you distinct memories. I was thinking this morning
- 6:14Speaker 2: about the first time I met Patricia. I don't know
- 6:16Speaker 2: why I was thinking about that. And I just started
- 6:19Speaker 2: thinking about it.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I know why.
- 6:20Speaker 2: It's because it was about this time of year that
- 6:23Speaker 2: I first met Patricia down in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 6:26Speaker 1: You know what I was thinking about this morning?
- 6:27Speaker 2: Let me hear.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Who hasn't texted my show in a while? We're a
- 6:32Speaker 1: little different. Really? Okay.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I know. The closer you get to my age,
- 6:38Speaker 2: you might be remembering stuff like that.
- 6:40Speaker 1: All right.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Who hasn't texted your show? Let's call him out right now. Oh,
- 6:43Speaker 2: I already called him out. Oh, you did call him out.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Specifically PRTG. I don't know what happened to him, but
- 6:49Speaker 2: he's been AWOL. Podcast Random Thoughts guy has been gone
- 6:52Speaker 2: for a while.
- 6:53Speaker 1: A minute.
- 6:54Speaker 2: And he hasn't texted me either.
- 6:56Speaker 1: No. Mr.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Lexington has not been texting me. He's texting you, but
- 7:00Speaker 2: he's not texting me. I think he's mad at me.
- 7:03Speaker 2: He's probably done with the whole Michael Bennett experience. He
- 7:04Speaker 2: doesn't want the gibberish. I mean, yeah. He's probably already
- 7:08Speaker 2: is like, oh, here comes Mr. Gibberish right now. I
- 7:11Speaker 2: can't take it. So I hope the guy knows I'm
- 7:14Speaker 2: only kidding. It made me laugh when he said all
- 7:17Speaker 2: the gibberish. But does that mean that I'm teasing back
- 7:21Speaker 2: or not?
- 7:22Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think so. You're laughing. But I
- 7:25Speaker 1: also know you a lot better than the listeners do. Okay.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Then I'm teasing.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Correct. Yeah. Yeah, you're never serious.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Oh, very few times am I serious. Yeah. Because my
- 7:37Speaker 2: wife was even trying to get me to be serious
- 7:39Speaker 2: last night. I've had some bad dreams recently. And I'm
- 7:42Speaker 2: not kidding. I mean, I dreamed last night I was
- 7:46Speaker 2: shooting Target with a murderer. How do you like that?
- 7:50Speaker 2: Explain that dream, please. It was the weirdest dream.
- 7:54Speaker 1: You've been watching scary movies or something?
- 7:56Speaker 2: I have not watched a scary thing at all. Unlike
- 7:58Speaker 2: Corey Price, it probably is because he always has his
- 8:01Speaker 2: list of points.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Oh, maybe that's it. Maybe you're running across his scary
- 8:04Speaker 1: movie list every day. No. And it just brings bad
- 8:07Speaker 1: things into your brain.
- 8:08Speaker 2: No, I don't think it's any of that. Because this
- 8:11Speaker 2: time of year, I do like watching the haunted hospitals.
- 8:16Speaker 2: And I haven't watched any of that. You ever watch
- 8:19Speaker 2: that show where, uh, they have haunting experiences and they
- 8:23Speaker 2: go look for hauntings. I love that kind of stuff.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I never, I don't believe in any of it. And
- 8:27Speaker 2: I think they're just making the stuff up, but I
- 8:30Speaker 2: love that kind of stuff.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I did watch, I stopped me and the roommate started
- 8:33Speaker 1: watching a, uh, prison experience experiment yesterday oh i saw
- 8:38Speaker 1: the previews.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Of that okay i have to hear how was.
- 8:43Speaker 1: It it's i mean it's okay it's oh really it's
- 8:47Speaker 1: it's not what i thought it was going to be
- 8:48Speaker 1: i was expecting more like unlocked if you've ever seen
- 8:52Speaker 1: unlocked yes where they open the doors and just let
- 8:54Speaker 1: the inmates just police themselves yeah that's what i was
- 8:57Speaker 1: kind of expecting but it's all these just random people
- 9:00Speaker 1: and some are given the title of guard some are
- 9:03Speaker 1: given prisoner and I don't know. They've got to try
- 9:06Speaker 1: to figure out ways to work together. It's been a
- 9:09Speaker 1: little slow so far, but I think we've only watched
- 9:11Speaker 1: two or three of them.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Oh, two or three?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I would be done. I mean, it's interesting. I
- 9:19Speaker 2: saw the previews to that, and I'm like, oh, that
- 9:21Speaker 2: looks really interesting. The way you just described it, it's like, yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 2: I'm not interested anymore. I'm not a good salesman. So
- 9:27Speaker 2: check it out for yourself. You've already sold me not
- 9:31Speaker 2: to watch it.
- 9:31Speaker 1: No, it's good. I think you're a really good salesman
- 9:34Speaker 1: right there. If I didn't think it was good, Michael,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't go finish the rest of it. And I
- 9:38Speaker 1: will definitely finish the rest. Oh, you will. Okay.
- 9:41Speaker 2: The one I'm disappointed Netflix hasn't come back is the
- 9:44Speaker 2: race for the crown.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:45Speaker 2: That's the one I think everybody was going crazy for. Yeah.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And it's like, they say they're coming back with another one,
- 9:53Speaker 2: but I haven't seen anything. They should do one with
- 9:56Speaker 2: the lead up to Breeders. Well, that would be great.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That would really be good. Yeah, but everybody's, you're right,
- 10:04Speaker 2: do one for Breeders, but then follow up with Derby.
- 10:07Speaker 2: How did the two-year-old juvenile race go and compete for
- 10:14Speaker 2: the Triple Crown? So follow that right there because you're
- 10:18Speaker 2: going to have big horses. And typically the ones that
- 10:21Speaker 2: win Breeders' Cup two-year-olds do not do well within the
- 10:24Speaker 2: Triple Crown. They do okay. But anyway.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Breeders' is next Saturday, right? Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Breeders' Cup weekend starts a week from tomorrow. And you
- 10:33Speaker 2: got races all day Friday at Keeneland and all day Saturday.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Because, you know. Is that why Kentucky's on a bye
- 10:39Speaker 1: that week or is that just, it's that out?
- 10:41Speaker 2: That is exactly why.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. It should be that way.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I mean, this is a big, big racing day for
- 10:48Speaker 2: all of racing and it's in Lexington on top of
- 10:51Speaker 2: it all. They should not have any games in, uh,
- 10:54Speaker 2: in Lexington. Cause that would just be too, too much
- 10:57Speaker 2: of a distraction.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Sure. I just didn't know if it just fell that
- 11:00Speaker 1: way luckily or if.
- 11:01Speaker 2: They planned that. No, they definitely had. I don't know
- 11:05Speaker 2: for certain, but I got to believe they planned it
- 11:06Speaker 2: that way. All I know is I'm ready to watch
- 11:08Speaker 2: my boy dominate. Who's that?
- 11:11Speaker 1: You know who that is. Sovereign.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Oh, okay. You want Sovereign to do well.
- 11:18Speaker 1: He's going to win.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Not only will he do well, he's going to win.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:23Speaker 2: You're a big fan of his trainer?
- 11:25Speaker 1: Who's his trainer?
- 11:26Speaker 2: See, I knew you wouldn't know.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Bill Mudd. Great guy. Sovereignty.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:30Speaker 1: All right.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Let's talk about CBS Sports reporting yesterday that UK basketball
- 11:37Speaker 2: spent more than $ 20 million for its current roster.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Here we go again.
- 11:43Speaker 2: How so?
- 11:45Speaker 1: That was the whole thing last year. This roster was
- 11:48Speaker 1: $ 22 million and we stink. Yeah.
- 11:51Speaker 2: But that is a little scary, isn't it? Because the
- 11:53Speaker 2: potential is there that they will stink. And you're spending
- 11:57Speaker 2: all this money, and you're not getting great results. Yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 2: but everybody spent more this year. I almost guarantee you that.
- 12:04Speaker 1: The U.K.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Is one of 11 teams that spent above that number.
- 12:10Speaker 1: There's only 11?
- 12:12Speaker 2: It's only 11 that spent more than $ 20 million. So
- 12:14Speaker 2: you're surprised by that.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I am, yeah.
- 12:16Speaker 2: All right, let me go through the list of all
- 12:18Speaker 2: the teams that spent over $ 20 million.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Are you ready?
- 12:22Speaker 2: Texas Tech, Illinois. North Carolina, St. John's, Texas, Florida, Duke, UofL, Tennessee,
- 12:31Speaker 2: and Michigan.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Hmm. No, Kansas wasn't on there?
- 12:38Speaker 2: Didn't have Kansas on there.
- 12:40Speaker 1: How are they spending less than $ 20 when they gave
- 12:43Speaker 1: Tyron $ 6? Yeah, no. That doesn't make sense.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I'm just going through the entire list, and that's the
- 12:49Speaker 2: entire list.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 12:53Speaker 2: So, and that's the ones they listed. So here's where
- 12:56Speaker 2: I'm surprised though. I'm really surprised by Texas Tech in Illinois.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm not. Oh, you're not? No. They're typically not one.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Of those kind of schools to be successful at basketball.
- 13:09Speaker 2: They're just kind of mid-level, I would say.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I would agree with Texas Tech, but they also have
- 13:14Speaker 1: a ton of money. They poured a bunch of money
- 13:18Speaker 1: into football this year. So I'm not surprised at all
- 13:20Speaker 1: to hear that they did the same with basketball. I mean,
- 13:22Speaker 1: heck JT Toppin was probably what? 5 million at least. Right.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And then that dude's not even healthy, which that's probably
- 13:29Speaker 1: going to be a blessing for Kentucky tomorrow. But yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not surprised that Texas tech spending that
- 13:35Speaker 1: amount of money in Illinois. I mean, They've got basically
- 13:39Speaker 1: the exact same team that they had last year that
- 13:41Speaker 1: was really, really good. I mean, they still got all
- 13:43Speaker 1: those international guys. Yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 2: So that doesn't surprise me at all. Well, I guess
- 13:48Speaker 2: I'm surprised by the football schools. And when I say
- 13:51Speaker 2: football schools, I'm talking Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Michigan.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I was about to say, hopefully you're not throwing Illinois
- 13:56Speaker 1: in that.
- 13:57Speaker 2: No, I'm not throwing Illinois. And all I want to
- 13:59Speaker 2: do is say Illinois. Every time I see the state Illinois,
- 14:04Speaker 2: it's like it's spelled Illinois.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Illinois.
- 14:07Speaker 2: It just frustrates me. Okay, so I know that. I
- 14:09Speaker 2: know it does. But Texas, Florida, Florida especially. Tennessee is
- 14:15Speaker 2: spending that kind of money on basketball now?
- 14:17Speaker 1: I mean, look at the roster.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Wow.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Yeah. It's the same thing as Illinois. Like, you just
- 14:24Speaker 1: got a bunch of guys that have been around for
- 14:25Speaker 1: a number of years. You're going to reward them. Florida, Duke.
- 14:30Speaker 1: What are you going to do?
- 14:32Speaker 2: If they were to play right now, let's just go
- 14:34Speaker 2: ahead and say, hey, the championship's going to be between
- 14:37Speaker 2: Florida and Duke. Who are you picking? Because you saw
- 14:40Speaker 2: Duke play the other night against Tennessee, and it wasn't
- 14:42Speaker 2: even close.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so, I mean, honestly, I don't feel like it's
- 14:45Speaker 1: fair answering this question because I haven't seen Florida yet.
- 14:48Speaker 1: But from what I saw out of Duke.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Oh, there you go.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah. You're right. You're right.
- 14:54Speaker 2: That's not fair. You've got to go see Florida. Florida's
- 14:57Speaker 2: going to be good. Florida is huge. Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Whereas Duke playing, who did they even play the other Tennessee? Tennessee.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Tennessee's got some size, but not Florida size. Okay.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I got you.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I think that'd be a fun game.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Are you surprised? Michigan is up there, especially with the
- 15:17Speaker 2: departure of a dusty man.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I am surprised. Michigan's up there. Yeah. Yeah. I was too.
- 15:23Speaker 2: It's like, wow, man, that's, that's, uh, Mike Boynton took over, uh,
- 15:27Speaker 2: as the, what's that?
- 15:27Speaker 1: I was just looking up who their coach. Yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Mike Boynton jr. And, uh, he took over and, and
- 15:32Speaker 2: evidently he's still got it going on there. So, uh,
- 15:35Speaker 2: Dusty may gone and, uh, for them to, to continue
- 15:39Speaker 2: to spend that kind of money. And then, uh, I
- 15:41Speaker 2: don't remember where they were ranked. I know they were
- 15:43Speaker 2: ranked fairly high. Weren't they Michigan?
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Top 15. I think it was what it was, but, uh, Uh, I,
- 15:51Speaker 2: I'm not surprised by St.
- 15:52Speaker 1: John's.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I'm not surprised by a UNC, uh, clearly Duke, uh,
- 15:58Speaker 2: not surprised by U of L, but I was rather
- 16:01Speaker 2: surprised by, um, the, the teams I just mentioned. I, I,
- 16:05Speaker 2: I hear you, what you say about Texas tech, but I'm,
- 16:07Speaker 2: I didn't know Illinois would be paying this kind of
- 16:09Speaker 2: money for their basketball. I mean, when you think Illinois,
- 16:13Speaker 2: do you think them as a football or a basketball school?
- 16:15Speaker 1: Basketball. Oh, really? No question.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Okay, I don't think of them as either one. I
- 16:20Speaker 2: hate to say it.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I don't know that they've ever had success in football. Hmm.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I can't answer that either. By the way, what?
- 16:28Speaker 1: Michigan's 16. Oh, they are.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Okay, I was thinking right around the top 15, so
- 16:32Speaker 2: I was pretty close right there. SEC leads all conferences
- 16:36Speaker 2: with spending. How do you like that? I was surprised
- 16:40Speaker 2: by that as well. The average of spending per team
- 16:45Speaker 2: in the SEC.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Are you ready for this? And we're talking about teams
- 16:49Speaker 2: that just a minute ago that are spending $ 20 million
- 16:52Speaker 2: or more. The average spending in the SEC, are you ready,
- 16:56Speaker 2: is $ 17. 3 million per team.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I believe that.
- 17:02Speaker 2: All 16 teams spent at least $ 10 million. Wow. Go
- 17:06Speaker 2: Mississippi State. How do you like that? Well, go Mississippi State.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I guess you're right about that. They spent over $ 10 million.
- 17:13Speaker 1: How about that?
- 17:14Speaker 2: Ole Miss as well, because those would be the two
- 17:16Speaker 2: teams I would say that wouldn't spend much. South Carolina did.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Missouri?
- 17:22Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think of them as basketball at all.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Here's the other part. Who do you think was second
- 17:30Speaker 2: behind the SEC in spending? Which conference?
- 17:34Speaker 1: ACC.
- 17:35Speaker 2: That's what I would have thought.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Probably Big Ten, though. Nope. Really?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Big East.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Really? Think about it.
- 17:44Speaker 2: They don't have football. Oh, that's so they're spending all
- 17:47Speaker 2: that money in basketball. So it makes you think logically
- 17:50Speaker 2: it makes all kinds of sense.
- 17:51Speaker 1: All right.
- 17:52Speaker 2: As I told you a minute ago, the SEC is
- 17:54Speaker 2: averaging 17.3 million dollars per team.
- 17:58Speaker 1: The Big East.
- 18:01Speaker 2: 13.6.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Look at that gigantic difference right there. I mean, but
- 18:05Speaker 1: that makes sense, right? Because the SEC is from top
- 18:09Speaker 1: to bottom. It's a much better basketball conference, whereas. But
- 18:12Speaker 1: the Big East, you've got UConn, you've got St. John's.
- 18:15Speaker 1: They're going to carry that conference. They probably spent more
- 18:19Speaker 1: than anybody by a long shot. You think Georgetown and
- 18:22Speaker 1: DePaul and schools like that are going out and spending
- 18:25Speaker 1: a ton of money on basketball? Probably not.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Probably not, but they used to. I mean, look at
- 18:30Speaker 2: the teams they used to have back in the 80s,
- 18:33Speaker 2: especially Georgetown. I mean, and now they don't have that anymore.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I mean, it's just when John Thompson was there, Georgetown
- 18:41Speaker 2: was just rolling with great basketball teams. All right, we've
- 18:46Speaker 2: got to take a break. When we come back, I
- 18:48Speaker 2: want to finish how the conference is rounded out because
- 18:53Speaker 2: you're going to be surprised where some of these rank
- 18:55Speaker 2: between how much they're spending. average per team. I mean,
- 19:00Speaker 2: it was surprising to me, and I definitely want to
- 19:02Speaker 2: talk about it today. 502-384-1450. You want to call in 502-414-1450.
- 19:06Speaker 2: You want to text in on the Whiskey Thief text line,
- 19:10Speaker 2: or you can tweet me at JustTheCatRadio. We'll get to
- 19:12Speaker 2: your texts as soon as we get back. Stay right there.
- 19:15Speaker 2: We've got a long way to go on Just The Cats.
- 19:18Speaker 1: It's not close quarters, it will make me snap. It's
- 19:22Speaker 1: just a feeling with the daily on a different track.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Thank you. Well, the first days are the hardest days.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Don't you worry anymore.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Cause when life looks like easy street, there is danger
- 20:12Speaker 3: at the door.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Can I just say, on a little bit of a
- 20:16Speaker 2: chilly morning, there's nothing more relaxing than hearing some steel
- 20:20Speaker 2: drums right there. I don't disagree. Yeah. There is something
- 20:24Speaker 2: about the steel drums that just like, oh, I'm ready.
- 20:27Speaker 1: You know what is disappointing? What's that? When I play
- 20:30Speaker 1: Jimmy Buffett on Thursdays and then I put up the
- 20:34Speaker 1: YouTube stream and I take a glance over and you're
- 20:36Speaker 1: not singing the song. Oh, really? I feel like, because
- 20:40Speaker 1: more times than not, when I'm playing Jimmy, you're singing it.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I mean, I can see your mouth over there in
- 20:46Speaker 1: that other studio moving. So I feel like when I
- 20:49Speaker 1: play one and you don't sing it, it's not a
- 20:51Speaker 1: good one. Oh, that's not true.
- 20:53Speaker 2: See, that's a cover song you just played. That's Uncle
- 20:56Speaker 2: John's band. And Jimmy Buffett did not, that's not one
- 21:00Speaker 2: of his original songs. So I don't know that one
- 21:02Speaker 2: as much. But that's a Grateful Dead song.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Who knew?
- 21:08Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's probably why. I was just never a
- 21:11Speaker 2: big Grateful Dead fan. I know people are going to
- 21:15Speaker 2: go nuts in how much they love Grateful Dead and
- 21:18Speaker 2: how people would travel literally across the country going from
- 21:22Speaker 2: show to show to go see the Deadheads.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 1: And that's where... Timothy B. Schmidt.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Are you ready for this? I'm going to give you
- 21:31Speaker 2: a little, I'll give you a little life lesson here.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Timothy B.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Schmidt, who you don't know, he used to be the
- 21:37Speaker 2: lead singer for Poco. And then he was also in
- 21:42Speaker 2: Jimmy Buffett's band for a time being.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Now, Timothy B.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Schmidt is also widely known as the bass player and
- 21:51Speaker 2: singer in the Eagles.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:55Speaker 2: One of his famous songs was I Can't Tell You Why.
- 21:57Speaker 2: If you go listen to that, you're like, oh. So
- 22:01Speaker 2: when the Eagles were on hiatus because Don Henley couldn't
- 22:05Speaker 2: get along with Glenn Frey, Timothy B. Schmidt went and
- 22:08Speaker 2: played bass for Jimmy Buffett. And so they go to Cincinnati,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and they're doing a concert at Kings Island in Cincinnati.
- 22:16Speaker 2: This is how long this dates back.
- 22:18Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 22:19Speaker 2: And Timothy B. Schmidt was talking about how all these
- 22:22Speaker 2: people dress up in certain ways, and they're in island attire,
- 22:26Speaker 2: and they look ridiculous having a great time. He goes, yeah,
- 22:29Speaker 2: it's kind of like deadheads, except these people are parrot heads.
- 22:33Speaker 2: And that's where the whole genesis of the term parrot
- 22:37Speaker 2: head came from. So instead of being dead heads, after
- 22:41Speaker 2: the Grateful Dead, they're parrot heads. There you go.
- 22:43Speaker 1: How about that? Learn from them every day. Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker 2: So you just played Uncle John's Band, which was originally
- 22:50Speaker 2: a dead head song, a Grateful Dead song. So I
- 22:54Speaker 2: don't know the words to that one as much, but yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 2: All right, I'll forgive you. No, yeah, I don't want
- 23:00Speaker 2: you to be upset. Please don't be upset because, no,
- 23:02Speaker 2: it's not that I don't. Sometimes I don't want to
- 23:05Speaker 2: sing it because I want to hear them. So, yeah,
- 23:08Speaker 2: I'd rather hear them than me. You don't want your
- 23:10Speaker 2: voice to drown it out. Well, I don't want my
- 23:11Speaker 2: voice to be on the radio, okay? I don't turn
- 23:13Speaker 2: your mic on. Okay, good. Well, I appreciate you doing that.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Let's get to the Whiskey Thief text line, 502-414-1450. John
- 23:21Speaker 2: here just wanted to say, Michael, that we are getting
- 23:23Speaker 2: closer to basketball and football action for our cats this week,
- 23:27Speaker 2: and I am surprisingly excited about the opportunity to watch both.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Do you feel the same?
- 23:33Speaker 2: I am still holding the faith that football will finish
- 23:37Speaker 2: strong and basketball will be exciting. Both programs can and
- 23:41Speaker 2: will do something special for BBN this season. Yes, to
- 23:45Speaker 2: answer your question, I am excited about both. I mean,
- 23:48Speaker 2: I think I said it yesterday, didn't I? This, to me,
- 23:51Speaker 2: is one of the funnest times of the year because
- 23:53Speaker 2: you've got football going on. Still have baseball going on.
- 23:57Speaker 2: You got NBA going on. You got college basketball going on.
- 24:01Speaker 2: You got volleyball on top of it all. We'll talk
- 24:04Speaker 2: about that in a few minutes. But, yes, I mean,
- 24:07Speaker 2: how can you not get excited when you have all
- 24:10Speaker 2: these different sports going on at the same time?
- 24:12Speaker 1: Isn't it a little overwhelming, though?
- 24:15Speaker 2: It is because it's hard to keep up with what's
- 24:17Speaker 2: going on.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's definitely overwhelming. Of your choice choosing, what are
- 24:24Speaker 2: you watching first? And then you got hockey going on.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I'm leaving out hockey as well. That's the thing.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Way too much.
- 24:33Speaker 1: As much as I love this time of the year,
- 24:35Speaker 1: there's almost too much going on. It's overstimulating, in other words.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I want to be continuing to lock in on football,
- 24:42Speaker 1: whether that's college, whether that's NFL. That's where my mind
- 24:45Speaker 1: is right now. But... I also know that NCAA basketball
- 24:51Speaker 1: is on the horizon. I've obviously been taking in some
- 24:54Speaker 1: of those exhibition games, so I've enjoyed those. I've been
- 24:56Speaker 1: watching NBA the last two nights. I've gotten to a
- 24:59Speaker 1: point where I haven't watched any hockey. I haven't watched
- 25:03Speaker 1: college volleyball in months, it feels like. Those are two
- 25:07Speaker 1: of my favorite things to watch, and I just simply
- 25:09Speaker 1: don't have time for them.
- 25:11Speaker 2: One person said, this Thursday night football game seems interesting
- 25:14Speaker 2: with the Bears at home led by Williams and a
- 25:16Speaker 2: Patriots team that is finding some winning ways again. I
- 25:21Speaker 2: wonder if Drake and Brown will connect for a TD
- 25:24Speaker 2: as I'm looking at touchdowns tonight. This bet comes courtesy
- 25:28Speaker 2: of DraftKings themselves. Throw it with the profit boost they
- 25:33Speaker 2: are offering and you have a chance to make some cash.
- 25:37Speaker 2: $ 10 can turn into, oh my gosh, are you serious?
- 25:40Speaker 2: $ 10 can turn into $ 322?
- 25:42Speaker 1: A lot.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Wow. So you said you had a pick last night.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Yeah, turned $ 1 to $ 35. It was great.
- 25:55Speaker 2: You turned $ 1 into $ 35. All right, tell me what
- 25:59Speaker 2: the bet was and how you won that much money.
- 26:01Speaker 1: So I had a 12-leg parlay with just NBA players.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Holy cow. I just took them. So they got combos, like, right,
- 26:10Speaker 1: with points, rebounds, and assists.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Right.
- 26:12Speaker 1: So I just took 12 players to go over a number,
- 26:15Speaker 1: and they all hit. It was great. I was up
- 26:17Speaker 1: until 11 o'clock watching NBA.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:20Speaker 2: And now you're regretting it today.
- 26:21Speaker 1: No, I got a Red Bull. I'm fine. Good for you.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Oh, you got the Red Bull.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And it's Thursday. Okay, good.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Zach texted in opinions on that game last night. I
- 26:30Speaker 2: assume he's talking about UofL Kansas. Yeah, did you watch
- 26:33Speaker 2: any of it? I did watch it, yeah. Because I
- 26:36Speaker 2: watched it when Kansas was up, and then as soon
- 26:39Speaker 2: as Kansas started losing that lead, I turned it off.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I'm just kidding. No, I watched it. UofL looked good
- 26:44Speaker 2: last night.
- 26:45Speaker 1: They did, yeah.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I mean, that's not a bad Kansas team. It's not
- 26:49Speaker 2: one of their better ones. Yeah, they were very underwhelming.
- 26:53Speaker 2: And especially if Tyron Stokes plays like that. I was
- 26:56Speaker 2: getting ready to say.
- 26:57Speaker 1: He was not great. But it's easy to see that.
- 27:00Speaker 1: He can be great. He's got the body for it. Oh, absolutely.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Think about it.
- 27:05Speaker 2: That's probably no probable about it. That is his biggest
- 27:09Speaker 2: game he's ever played in right there, even though it's
- 27:11Speaker 2: an exhibition game. That's still the biggest game. He's never
- 27:14Speaker 2: played with athletes like that before. Right.
- 27:16Speaker 1: And in front of a crowd like that. Exactly. Exactly.
- 27:20Speaker 2: So Kansas was really into that game.
- 27:23Speaker 1: That was fun. I see.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I like these matchups exhibition game. I think it makes
- 27:28Speaker 2: it fun because nobody wants to go out there and
- 27:30Speaker 2: watch Kansas play some no name team or UofL play
- 27:34Speaker 2: some no name team. Same thing for Kentucky. I'm excited
- 27:37Speaker 2: about their game tomorrow night versus Texas Tech. We'll talk
- 27:40Speaker 2: about more of that tomorrow.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Did you know Alabama and Auburn play an exhibition game tonight?
- 27:46Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 27:47Speaker 1: Why? Why are they doing that? I don't get it.
- 27:53Speaker 2: But that's kind of fun though.
- 27:55Speaker 1: But why are you playing a conference game as an
- 27:57Speaker 1: exhibition game? They'll probably play. I haven't looked at the schedules,
- 28:00Speaker 1: but I have to imagine they play twice this year already.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Yeah, probably so. But I mean, that's, it's kind of
- 28:07Speaker 2: a cheap way to not have to travel far, save
- 28:10Speaker 2: some money for the, like the athletic department needs to
- 28:12Speaker 2: save money, but I kind of like it.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Well, apparently, so they're doing it because, well, the attendance revenue,
- 28:19Speaker 1: here's where I have a really big issue with it. Okay.
- 28:22Speaker 1: The attendance revenue is going to be split between the
- 28:25Speaker 1: two schools for NIL.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Oh, well, where's the game being played then? Is it
- 28:30Speaker 2: being played in Birmingham? It is somewhere in, bam, I
- 28:33Speaker 2: can't remember. Yeah, so it's not being played in Tuscaloosa.
- 28:35Speaker 2: It's not being played in Auburn, Alabama. All right, see, now,
- 28:39Speaker 2: I like that then. So they're splitting the revenue to
- 28:43Speaker 2: each school. Now, it'd be better to me, forget the revenue.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I would love that revenue to go towards a cause.
- 28:52Speaker 1: No, see, here's my thinking. They are playing in Birmingham,
- 28:55Speaker 1: by the way. Okay, there you go. Why are we
- 28:57Speaker 1: being cowards with this whole thing and saying, let's just
- 29:00Speaker 1: split the revenue? Be men. Put a bet on the
- 29:04Speaker 1: game and say whoever wins gets to keep the whole revenue.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Wouldn't that make it so much more fun?
- 29:10Speaker 2: Wouldn't it make it so much more fun if all
- 29:12Speaker 2: the money went towards a cause that Alabama or Auburn
- 29:16Speaker 2: would like to give it towards? I would like that more. But, yeah,
- 29:19Speaker 2: I mean, put a little gamble on it. Auburn wouldn't
- 29:22Speaker 2: want to do that because they're not going to be
- 29:24Speaker 2: very good this year.
- 29:24Speaker 1: All right, I'll amend it. The winner gets all the
- 29:28Speaker 1: attendance revenue towards their NIL, and the losing coach has
- 29:32Speaker 1: to donate a million dollars to whatever.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I don't think. That would make it so much more fun.
- 29:39Speaker 2: I don't think Bruce Pearl's son has that kind of money.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Well, Pops does.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Yeah, he definitely does. I wish he would stop talking
- 29:45Speaker 2: about politics. I do. I just like, let's talk about sports.
- 29:50Speaker 2: He wants to get into it. Yeah, he really does.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I mean, it's overwhelming, but oh, my goodness. All right,
- 29:58Speaker 2: Jimmy Reff. I love that this guy's... I think it
- 30:01Speaker 2: was his birthday yesterday.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Oh, was it really? Maybe two days ago.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Happy belated birthday, Jimmy Ref. Scoots, what does this say?
- 30:10Speaker 2: To ho, do you have... Who do you.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sorry.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I see what it says now. It literally says the
- 30:19Speaker 2: number two and then HO behind it.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Two-ho. Yeah. I'll take two-ho, Jimmy Redd. Yeah.
- 30:24Speaker 2: I mean, it sounds like a rapper name right there.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Two-ho?
- 30:29Speaker 2: I mean, that would be a great name. Kind of
- 30:32Speaker 2: like Tupac. Scoots, who do you have in the World Series?
- 30:36Speaker 2: I want Brewers for our Reds.
- 30:38Speaker 1: No. I'm really torn. Oh, you are really? I am.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Why?
- 30:46Speaker 1: Because I really, as much as I should dislike the Brewers,
- 30:51Speaker 1: because they are in the division with the Reds, for
- 30:53Speaker 1: whatever reason, I do like the Brewers. Yeah. And I
- 30:56Speaker 1: really also like the Tampa Bay Rays. I mean, they're
- 30:59Speaker 1: one of two stadiums in Major League Baseball that I've
- 31:02Speaker 1: been to. But the Rays are always constantly the underdog story. Yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 1: they really are. I've got to cheer for the underdog here.
- 31:10Speaker 1: I do think the Brewers have the advantage, but... I
- 31:13Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if Tampa wins. I'm cheering for Tampa Bay,
- 31:16Speaker 1: Jimmy ref.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Here's what I want to know. Cause you know, this
- 31:20Speaker 2: is kind of fun. One of neither of these teams
- 31:22Speaker 2: have won a world series. So now we're going to
- 31:24Speaker 2: have a team that gets there and gets to experience
- 31:27Speaker 2: their very first world series is the United States. As
- 31:32Speaker 2: far as major league baseball fans, are they interested in
- 31:34Speaker 2: this world series?
- 31:37Speaker 1: It's a great question. I mean, if you're a true
- 31:39Speaker 1: baseball fan, I would think you would be.
- 31:41Speaker 2: I would think so, yes.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Just because it's a version of baseball you don't really
- 31:45Speaker 1: see all that often anymore. The small ball, you get
- 31:48Speaker 1: guys bunting and stealing. You get really the essence of
- 31:51Speaker 1: how baseball should be played. Absolutely.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Going to the bases. But for the casual fan. For
- 31:56Speaker 2: the casual fan, that's a boring way to baseball. Casual
- 31:59Speaker 2: fan wants to see a bunch of long bombs. They
- 32:02Speaker 2: want to see eight to seven type games. And I
- 32:05Speaker 2: just don't think with the pitching staffs of these two teams,
- 32:08Speaker 2: I don't think you're going to get that.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:13Speaker 2: It's going to be interesting to see what the viewership
- 32:15Speaker 2: is after the World Series.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Oh, it's going to be horrible.
- 32:18Speaker 2: You think so?
- 32:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Oh, that stinks. Okay. I hate that because, you know,
- 32:21Speaker 2: I'm excited. Because my Rays are in it, and I
- 32:25Speaker 2: clearly want them to win.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I don't think that's necessarily a knock on baseball, though.
- 32:30Speaker 1: It kind of goes back to what I was just
- 32:32Speaker 1: saying about how there's just too much to watch right now. Yeah,
- 32:35Speaker 1: absolutely there is. You got Kentucky and Texas Tech playing
- 32:38Speaker 1: an exhibition game on Friday night when Game 1 of
- 32:40Speaker 1: the World Finals. series is going on. Yeah, you're exactly correct.
- 32:44Speaker 1: You've got high school football going on Friday night. Heck
- 32:46Speaker 1: you've got college, other college football games happening on Friday.
- 32:50Speaker 1: So it just, there's too much. And it, it's hard
- 32:52Speaker 1: to prioritize what you want to watch.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Over what, and then I always forget that you got
- 32:56Speaker 2: Thursday night football and you got the Patriots as you know, uh,
- 33:01Speaker 2: John was saying a couple of minutes ago, versus the Bears,
- 33:03Speaker 2: which is a pretty good game.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Yeah, not bad.
- 33:06Speaker 2: I mean, it's two, four, and two teams, so one
- 33:10Speaker 2: is going to get a little better and the other
- 33:11Speaker 2: one's not. And honestly, I don't know who would win
- 33:15Speaker 2: this game. I mean, I guess the Bears have a
- 33:18Speaker 2: little bit of an advantage because it's at home.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Duh, Bears.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I do miss that. That was funny.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Bears winning for Ditka tonight. Oh, that's a great point. Yes.
- 33:29Speaker 2: They should win for Mike Ditka.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:32Speaker 2: But I don't know why. Well, yeah, I think I do.
- 33:35Speaker 2: My dad had a buddy that he grew up with
- 33:37Speaker 2: from Nashville, Tennessee, that was quarterback for the Bears back
- 33:40Speaker 2: in the 50s. Wow. So he was a Bears fan.
- 33:43Speaker 2: And so I think I kind of adopted the Bears
- 33:46Speaker 2: to a degree. So I root for them for a
- 33:48Speaker 2: little bit.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I do.
- 33:50Speaker 2: So I'll be rooting for the Bears. But I've never
- 33:52Speaker 2: disliked the Patriots.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Never?
- 33:55Speaker 2: No, I never have. I was always a Tom Brady fan.
- 34:00Speaker 1: I don't know. Really? So you're not a big Tom
- 34:02Speaker 1: Brady fan? No, I'm a big Tom Brady. I always
- 34:04Speaker 1: liked Tom Brady, but I don't know. When the Patriots
- 34:07Speaker 1: are winning all those Super Bowls, I hated seeing Bill
- 34:10Speaker 1: Belichick with his sleeveless sweater on the sideline and that
- 34:14Speaker 1: ugly look on his face.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Or the cut-off hoodie that he would always wear.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I meant. Yeah, okay.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Yeah, he would always cut off the sleeves. Why do
- 34:22Speaker 2: you look so ridiculous? All right, we've got to take
- 34:24Speaker 2: another break. Plus, we've got to get back to the
- 34:26Speaker 2: spending in the conferences. We'll talk about that, too.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Quirrell.
- 34:30Speaker 2: I know, totally. It happens every stinking time. And what's
- 34:34Speaker 2: going on at local news? We've got to talk about that, too.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Craziness.
- 34:38Speaker 2: This is really wild what's going on here in Louisville, Kentucky.
- 34:41Speaker 2: If you haven't seen it, we'll talk about that as well.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Stay right there. If you want to text in, come on.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I want to hear from you.
- 34:46Speaker 1: 502-414-1450.
- 34:47Speaker 2: We'll see you in a minute. This is Justin Cash.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Goddamn, I declare.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Have you seen the light?
- 35:02Speaker 3: Their walls are built of cannonballs. Their motto is don't
- 35:08Speaker 3: tread on me.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Come here, Uncle John's bed, lay into the tide.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Walls, windows, trees, waves coming through.
- 36:02Speaker 1: You being me and I being you.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Together in eternity. Some kind of ecstasy's gotta.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Hold on me.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I just want this song to play the
- 36:14Speaker 2: entire way, okay?
- 36:15Speaker 1: Can't do it.
- 36:16Speaker 2: I know we can't do it, but I love this song.
- 36:19Speaker 2: It's just like, come on, man. Because it's from the
- 36:23Speaker 2: soundtrack of Hoot. If you ever saw the movie Hoot
- 36:26Speaker 2: that Jimmy Buffett was.
- 36:27Speaker 1: In, Luke Wilson. It was a hoot.
- 36:29Speaker 2: That was a great movie. Trying to think who else
- 36:32Speaker 2: was in it, but Luke Wilson was the star in it.
- 36:37Speaker 2: There was an old actor in it that was in
- 36:39Speaker 2: it as well, but it's a good movie.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I liked it.
- 36:42Speaker 2: But it's a movie about kids coming and saving the
- 36:45Speaker 2: day when they were trying to build some kind of
- 36:48Speaker 2: pancake house, of all things. And they had these rare
- 36:54Speaker 2: owls that were living in the land there. And they
- 36:58Speaker 2: stopped the construction and saved the owls. So it's a
- 37:01Speaker 2: good movie.
- 37:02Speaker 1: It sounds terrible. I know.
- 37:03Speaker 2: I'm butchering it up completely. But if you go watch it,
- 37:08Speaker 2: it's good. And Jimmy Buffett's in it for a little bit,
- 37:10Speaker 2: and he sings in the soundtrack.
- 37:11Speaker 1: So.
- 37:12Speaker 2: But no, I liked it.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Stop that.
- 37:14Speaker 2: It sounds terrible.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Geez. Based on a best-selling novel.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I didn't know that was a best-selling novel, really. Okay.
- 37:21Speaker 1: I'd rather read the novel. You would? Well, go read.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Typically, I would say nine times out of ten, the
- 37:27Speaker 2: book is better than the movie.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd agree.
- 37:31Speaker 2: For instance, I loved the movie Seabiscuit. Did you ever
- 37:36Speaker 2: see that one?
- 37:36Speaker 1: I don't think I did.
- 37:37Speaker 2: About the racehorse.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I know who Seabiscuit is.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Okay, good. I will tell you the book, even though
- 37:43Speaker 2: I loved the movie, the book was a thousand times better.
- 37:47Speaker 2: It just was. And majority of the time, that's the
- 37:50Speaker 2: way it is. I agree with that.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Yeah. With the exception of my Indiana book I'm reading,
- 37:54Speaker 1: the movie was so much better. Really? Book's good, but
- 37:57Speaker 1: the movie was so much better. Hoosiers? Yeah. No. So
- 38:01Speaker 1: I'm reading a book about Indiana's football championship season. Wasn't
- 38:06Speaker 1: really a movie. Oh, come on. Shut up.
- 38:08Speaker 2: It was better than reading the book. That's not a movie.
- 38:10Speaker 2: That's a big difference right there. Of course, the true
- 38:13Speaker 2: life story was a lot better.
- 38:14Speaker 1: It's like, have you seen that State Farm Kurt Cignetti commercial, right?
- 38:17Speaker 2: I don't think I have.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Well, there's a part in it where he's like, I'm
- 38:22Speaker 1: watching my favorite movies. And it's game film up on
- 38:24Speaker 1: the TV. And Jake from State Farm is like, Coach,
- 38:28Speaker 1: that's not a movie. That's a great commercial right there. Oh,
- 38:35Speaker 1: it's awesome, yeah. That's funny.
- 38:37Speaker 2: All right, let's get back to the CBS Sports– uh,
- 38:42Speaker 2: report talking about, uh, all the money that's being spent here. So,
- 38:46Speaker 2: you know, I had said that the sec is averaging spending, uh,
- 38:50Speaker 2: per team is 17.3 million. Also said that, uh, the, uh,
- 38:55Speaker 2: big East is second with 13.6. Who do you think
- 39:00Speaker 2: is next after that? Cause you got left, you got
- 39:05Speaker 2: the big 10, the big 12 and the.
- 39:08Speaker 1: ACC, uh, I mean, you've continued to throw me for
- 39:13Speaker 1: a loop on this, so I'm going to say Big 12. Oh, really?
- 39:15Speaker 2: Okay, you would have been right with your own conference.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Damn it. I know it.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Big 10 is averaging $ 12. 7 million per team, and then
- 39:23Speaker 2: you got Big 12 or ACC. Who are you going with?
- 39:27Speaker 1: ACC.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Yep, you're wrong.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Oh, my God. You missed it completely. I didn't get
- 39:31Speaker 1: a single one right. No, you didn't.
- 39:33Speaker 2: And typically, you're spot on. I'm kind of surprised. But honestly,
- 39:39Speaker 2: I can't fault you for being wrong because I'm right
- 39:41Speaker 2: there with you. I would have sworn up and down
- 39:44Speaker 2: it would have been SEC– Big 10 right there with
- 39:48Speaker 2: each other. And then right after that, I would have
- 39:50Speaker 2: said ACC. But no, the Big 10, 12.7. Big 12
- 39:53Speaker 2: is 12.6. So not much of a difference right there.
- 39:55Speaker 2: But then lastly, the ACC, $ 11.
- 39:56Speaker 1: 9 million.
- 39:57Speaker 2: So between the SEC 17.3 and the ACC 11.9, that's
- 39:58Speaker 2: a pretty big difference between those two conferences right there.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Yeah, but you also have to keep in mind, going
- 40:17Speaker 1: back to what I said earlier, the SEC from top
- 40:20Speaker 1: to bottom is very competitive. Whereas the ACC, Boston College
- 40:24Speaker 1: isn't spending but $ 6 million, $ 7 million maybe on their roster.
- 40:30Speaker 1: I'm sure Syracuse is probably spending, but there's just a
- 40:33Speaker 1: lot of ACC teams that probably aren't pouring a bunch
- 40:36Speaker 1: of money into basketball.
- 40:38Speaker 2: But back in the day, and it wasn't that long ago,
- 40:41Speaker 2: where the ACC was the dominating conference in basketball.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Yeah. It's just like, what has happened? I still think
- 40:49Speaker 1: at the top they can be.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Yes.
- 40:51Speaker 1: But that doesn't necessarily have to equate to dollar amounts. Now,
- 40:55Speaker 1: it did talk about Duke claiming to have the Duke discount.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Have you heard about the Duke discount? I have not.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Where they are getting players at a lower price due
- 41:04Speaker 2: to how the program operates. Do you believe Duke has
- 41:08Speaker 2: a Duke discount?
- 41:10Speaker 1: What does that mean based on how the program operates?
- 41:13Speaker 2: Well, that part they could not define. So I have
- 41:16Speaker 2: no idea. And I've looked everywhere to find out what
- 41:18Speaker 2: they mean, how they operate. I don't know. Other than
- 41:21Speaker 2: they're just claiming that they're getting players in here for
- 41:25Speaker 2: less money than other teams. So they're not paying as much. So, yes,
- 41:30Speaker 2: they're getting the top tier players, but they're not paying
- 41:33Speaker 2: what those players have been offered at other schools. I
- 41:36Speaker 2: need to know more. Well, that's what they're claiming. They're
- 41:40Speaker 2: getting these players for less money than where they're being
- 41:43Speaker 2: offered at other schools. And I find that hard to
- 41:46Speaker 2: believe because we talked about this win. Was it yesterday
- 41:49Speaker 2: or earlier this week? Whereas what is the number one
- 41:53Speaker 2: thing an athlete looks for when they're looking at and
- 41:57Speaker 2: considering schools? What do you think? Is it the school?
- 42:00Speaker 1: Is it the program?
- 42:01Speaker 2: Is it the historical side of it when it comes
- 42:03Speaker 2: to that respective sport? Or is it the money?
- 42:08Speaker 1: I mean, when it comes to Duke, I think that
- 42:10Speaker 1: speaks for itself. It's Duke.
- 42:13Speaker 2: So Kentucky, you would say the same thing then?
- 42:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I would.
- 42:16Speaker 2: And what has happened there? Why are all these players
- 42:19Speaker 2: not coming to Kentucky and they're going to the likes
- 42:22Speaker 2: of Duke, Arkansas, Michigan, Florida? What's going on at Kentucky?
- 42:30Speaker 2: What is the difference in your mind?
- 42:33Speaker 1: I mean, it's the same take I've had for a
- 42:35Speaker 1: couple of years now, and I don't I don't like
- 42:39Speaker 1: voicing this, but I don't know. It's something about Mark Pope.
- 42:43Speaker 1: And see, I'm right there with you. He's... I don't know.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I don't really want to say anything else because I
- 42:50Speaker 1: don't have any insight. I don't have any insight. Yeah,
- 42:52Speaker 1: but you have an opinion, and I'm asking for your opinion.
- 42:54Speaker 1: I don't want to sit here and speculate. I mean,
- 42:56Speaker 1: I just think Mark Pope's kind of a weird guy.
- 42:58Speaker 2: He's different. Yeah. And see, that's all I continue to
- 43:02Speaker 2: hear is that recruits do not... Here's a nice way
- 43:04Speaker 2: to say it. Crews do not relate to him. Without
- 43:08Speaker 2: saying he's weird or he's odd or he's different, just
- 43:11Speaker 2: say they don't relate. And I think they relate to
- 43:14Speaker 2: Todd Golden. I think they relate to John Shire. Because
- 43:19Speaker 2: they're younger. I think that is the difference. And when
- 43:23Speaker 2: you don't relate with somebody you're going to be coached by,
- 43:26Speaker 2: it's like, I don't care how much money you offer me.
- 43:28Speaker 2: I'm not really interested. If it's going to be close guys,
- 43:31Speaker 2: you know what? I'm going to the other coach that
- 43:33Speaker 2: I relate with better. And I think that's your difference.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Am I wrong to say that?
- 43:38Speaker 1: No, I mean, I'm right there with you. You are?
- 43:40Speaker 2: Okay, good.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Because, I mean, look at– Will Stein's a perfect example
- 43:44Speaker 1: of that. Like, Kentucky football 6-1 because he's young. Yes.
- 43:49Speaker 1: And I feel like the players can relate to him better.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Forget the young side because I think you could be
- 43:55Speaker 2: older and still relate. Once you relate with that coach,
- 43:59Speaker 2: then you want to be a part of that program.
- 44:02Speaker 2: And I think that's the biggest difference. Age does help.
- 44:05Speaker 1: You're right.
- 44:06Speaker 2: But I think it's relating to him. And the contagious side.
- 44:10Speaker 2: You know, we talked about Will Stein and everybody talking
- 44:13Speaker 2: about how contagious his personality and energy is. And they're
- 44:18Speaker 2: just not feeling that in basketball. And that bothers me.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Best way I can describe it is Will Stein is
- 44:24Speaker 1: probably able to use skibity in a sentence.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Whereas....
- 44:30Speaker 1: Mark Pope's still stuck in the past, and he's doing
- 44:33Speaker 1: the whole 6-7 when it's like, Mark, 6-7's kind of gone.
- 44:37Speaker 1: You got to move on and learn the new genetics.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Yeah, he's still dancing to the Macarena, okay? Maybe that's
- 44:43Speaker 2: what we need to talk about. I hated that, okay?
- 44:47Speaker 2: And I hate the word hate, the whole Macarena thing.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Oh, I loved it. Did you really?
- 44:53Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh. Please, no. That's the last thing I
- 44:55Speaker 2: need to hear.
- 44:56Speaker 1: All right.
- 44:57Speaker 2: We're going to get back to your text as soon
- 44:58Speaker 2: as we get back.
- 45:00Speaker 1: 502-414-1450. Stay right there.
- 45:02Speaker 2: We got all what's happening in Louisville media. We'll talk
- 45:06Speaker 2: about that as well. Stay right there. Hour two of
- 45:08Speaker 2: Just the Cats coming right up.
- 45:09Speaker 1: We'll be right back.
- 45:11Speaker 3: The huge iron flying boat rises off the big thousand-year-old petroglyphs.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Doing a double take on a finger at eternity. Sitting
- 45:21Speaker 3: here in the middle of this ecstasy.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. All right,
- 45:37Speaker 2: hour number, I almost said hour number four. It's like, no,
- 45:39Speaker 2: we're not doing hour four. We're doing hour two right now.
- 45:42Speaker 1: There is no Spears today. We can go three if
- 45:44Speaker 1: you want.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Oh, seriously?
- 45:45Speaker 1: Why is there no Spears today? They're on a golf trip.
- 45:49Speaker 2: He can't do the show on a golf trip?
- 45:51Speaker 1: Nah.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Wow, okay.
- 45:53Speaker 1: He should take it a couple days off. They deserve it.
- 45:55Speaker 1: You know, they work hard for an hour each day.
- 45:57Speaker 1: An hour each day. Yeah, that's hard work. Wow.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Man, that must be nice. I wish I was working
- 46:02Speaker 2: an hour each day. But no, good for them.
- 46:05Speaker 1: You're right. Good for them.
- 46:06Speaker 2: So I don't have any issue with it. But I
- 46:08Speaker 2: do want to ask you this, though. Do you think
- 46:11Speaker 2: people have manners anymore? And think about that for a second.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Because I was walking out of a local convenience store yesterday.
- 46:23Speaker 2: And there was a lady coming. And I decided to
- 46:26Speaker 2: hold the door for her.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 46:28Speaker 2: And she just smiled like, I don't know if she
- 46:31Speaker 2: smiled like that in years, but she just, she kept saying, oh,
- 46:35Speaker 2: thank you. You're so nice. You're such a gentleman. Just
- 46:37Speaker 2: kept going on and on and on. Made her feel good.
- 46:41Speaker 2: And it seems more times than not, when I hold it,
- 46:44Speaker 2: and it doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman,
- 46:46Speaker 2: people always smile when you hold the door for them.
- 46:49Speaker 2: It's probably been one time that somebody didn't smile or
- 46:53Speaker 2: say thank you or something like that. And so, Do
- 46:57Speaker 2: you think people have lost their manners today?
- 46:59Speaker 1: No. No, I don't. Has there been a decline from
- 47:05Speaker 1: what it was 30, 40 years ago? Sure. Yeah. But no,
- 47:10Speaker 1: I still think for the most part when... When you're
- 47:13Speaker 1: in a spot where you can use good manners, I
- 47:15Speaker 1: think people more times than not choose to do so.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Because I envision you as that same type of person, too.
- 47:20Speaker 2: You probably hold the door for people.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Absolutely. Yeah.
- 47:23Speaker 2: And people always appreciate that.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you're right. I mean, 95% of the time,
- 47:30Speaker 1: I would say, I get a thank you or whatnot,
- 47:32Speaker 1: appreciate you, something along those lines. But then I'm also
- 47:36Speaker 1: the type of person where, despite me not liking controversy,
- 47:41Speaker 1: if I hold the door for somebody and they don't
- 47:43Speaker 1: say anything, I'll hit them with the sarcastic, you're welcome.
- 47:46Speaker 1: And I'm the same way, yes! I love it.
- 47:49Speaker 2: That you're that way, because I did it for a
- 47:53Speaker 2: young teenage girl not too long ago. And she just
- 47:56Speaker 2: walked on through, and I looked at her and said,
- 47:58Speaker 2: you're welcome. I mean, it's not hard to say that. Yeah.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Thank you. I know. It really isn't. It's not hard
- 48:05Speaker 1: to smile. It's two syllables. And it's not hard to
- 48:06Speaker 1: smile either. I don't need a smile, but I need
- 48:10Speaker 1: a thank you. But you know what?
- 48:11Speaker 2: More times than not, when I smile at somebody, they
- 48:14Speaker 2: smile right back at me. And I think people like that.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Here's where I love doing it is in New York City.
- 48:21Speaker 2: You go to people, they don't know how to react.
- 48:24Speaker 2: They really do not know if you're being mean-spirited or
- 48:29Speaker 2: you're being a pleasant person.
- 48:32Speaker 1: See, I don't often smile at people like that. Oh,
- 48:35Speaker 1: I do. Because I feel like it's forced. Most of
- 48:38Speaker 1: the time, if I'm smiling at somebody, I feel like
- 48:40Speaker 1: it's just fake. No. I don't ever really want to
- 48:42Speaker 1: be fake. Okay.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I told a lady the other day how pretty she was.
- 48:47Speaker 2: And a person told me, Michael, you can't do that anymore.
- 48:50Speaker 2: It's like, why not? I'm complimenting them.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Women still want to hear that. Give me a break.
- 48:56Speaker 2: But she told me, yeah, there's women out there that
- 48:58Speaker 2: do not want to hear that. They think it's condescending.
- 49:02Speaker 2: It's like, what are you talking about? You want me
- 49:03Speaker 2: to tell you you're ugly? Well, I was with a
- 49:06Speaker 2: young lady the other day.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I did.
- 49:07Speaker 2: I said she was probably in her early 30s. I said,
- 49:11Speaker 2: you're very attractive. I said, no, let me take that back.
- 49:14Speaker 1: You're very pretty.
- 49:16Speaker 2: And she looked at me and says, no, I'm not.
- 49:17Speaker 2: I said, she sure did. I said, don't you ever
- 49:21Speaker 2: say that you're a beautiful young lady. And I think
- 49:24Speaker 2: she appreciated it.
- 49:25Speaker 1: No confidence. Oh, my gosh.
- 49:27Speaker 2: Well, I had a girl. I'll give you another example.
- 49:30Speaker 2: I was at a coffee place going through the drive-thru
- 49:33Speaker 2: out by Churchill Downs over the summer. And I told
- 49:36Speaker 2: this lady, I said, I could tell she was having
- 49:41Speaker 2: a rough day. I said, are you okay? She goes, yeah,
- 49:45Speaker 2: most people aren't being really nice to me. I said, well,
- 49:47Speaker 2: I'll tell you what. I'm going to be nice to
- 49:49Speaker 2: you right now. And I hope you have a great day.
- 49:52Speaker 2: And she says, yeah. I've had a tough time. I
- 49:55Speaker 2: haven't done a great job at my job. I haven't
- 49:58Speaker 2: enjoyed Louisville. I'm probably going to move back out to Arizona.
- 50:01Speaker 2: I'm really disappointed about this. I said, you just keep
- 50:04Speaker 2: trying harder. You'll get it done. And not only that,
- 50:08Speaker 2: you're an attractive young lady. I can tell you're going
- 50:11Speaker 2: to be successful. And she started tearing up. I'm like, oh,
- 50:14Speaker 2: my gosh, please don't be that way. I said, you
- 50:18Speaker 2: just need to gain your confidence. I had a little
- 50:20Speaker 2: chit-chat with her. And then next thing she goes, she goes, well,
- 50:23Speaker 2: you know, today's your birthday. I said, no, it's not.
- 50:25Speaker 2: She goes, it is today because you're getting a free coffee.
- 50:29Speaker 2: And evidently when you say it's your birthday, you get
- 50:30Speaker 2: a free coffee at this place. So, yeah. So anyway,
- 50:33Speaker 2: I just broke my heart. It's just like, I can't
- 50:36Speaker 2: have it when people are upset.
- 50:38Speaker 1: You know, speaking of birthdays. Yes. What I learned a
- 50:41Speaker 1: week ago when it was my birthday. Right. There is no,
- 50:45Speaker 1: they don't check anything. You can go to whatever restaurant
- 50:48Speaker 1: you want and be like, today's my birthday. And they're
- 50:50Speaker 1: going to be like, oh, what free dessert do you want?
- 50:53Speaker 1: Nobody asked me for my license to prove that it
- 50:55Speaker 1: was my birthday.
- 50:56Speaker 2: I bet they check at a strip club. Well, good
- 50:59Speaker 2: thing I don't frequent strip clubs. Exactly. I should not
- 51:03Speaker 2: have said that. I'm so sorry. One person, I can
- 51:07Speaker 2: hear a five-year-old mom, what's a strip club? One person
- 51:10Speaker 2: texted in, too much stuff going on? Scooch, you need
- 51:13Speaker 2: to take Daryl Singletary's advice. Too much fun? There's no
- 51:18Speaker 2: such thing.
- 51:20Speaker 1: No, I get it. I'm right there with Daryl Singletary, but...
- 51:24Speaker 1: It's just overwhelming. I just don't have enough time in
- 51:28Speaker 1: the day.
- 51:30Speaker 2: One person says, sounds like they need more owls in
- 51:32Speaker 2: Gatlinburg to prevent all the pancake houses from popping up.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Are there a ton of pancake houses in Gatlinburg?
- 51:41Speaker 1: You not been lately?
- 51:42Speaker 2: It's been years since I've been to Gatlinburg.
- 51:44Speaker 1: There are a ton.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Oh, are there really?
- 51:46Speaker 1: Between Moonshine Tastings and pancake houses, you'll get your fill
- 51:50Speaker 1: in Gatlinburg. Hmm.
- 51:53Speaker 2: I always liked Gatlinburg. There was a candy store down there.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Is it called Old Smoky Mountain or Smoky Mountain Candy
- 52:00Speaker 2: or something like that?
- 52:01Speaker 1: That sounds right.
- 52:02Speaker 2: And they always have the homemade taffy that they're making? Oh,
- 52:06Speaker 2: I love that.
- 52:06Speaker 1: And Gatlinburg's cool. It's just, it's gotten a little too
- 52:09Speaker 1: big for my liking. Has it really?
- 52:11Speaker 2: That's a bummer.
- 52:12Speaker 1: It's just, I mean, everybody wants to go there.
- 52:14Speaker 2: It was, I remember we would always go for the
- 52:18Speaker 2: UK-Tennessee game because it was always the last game of
- 52:20Speaker 2: the year. And that was typically what Thanksgiving weekend or
- 52:24Speaker 2: the weekend before. And so that was the start of
- 52:27Speaker 2: official start of Christmas. And it was always fun. I
- 52:30Speaker 2: enjoyed that. So, yeah, I love I have fond memories
- 52:33Speaker 2: of Gatlinburg. One person said, how much is the ACC
- 52:37Speaker 2: pulled down by B.C.? Exactly.
- 52:41Speaker 1: That is a great point. Has Joker spent like eight
- 52:45Speaker 1: million dollars on football?
- 52:47Speaker 2: Whoa, really?
- 52:48Speaker 1: Is that all?
- 52:48Speaker 2: Yeah. They're one of the lowest in the country, aren't they?
- 52:51Speaker 2: I think they were the lowest. They were the lowest,
- 52:52Speaker 2: $ 8 million. So they're not even trying at football. I
- 52:56Speaker 2: don't know what they are trying at because it seems
- 52:58Speaker 2: like they stink at everything. If they're paying that in football,
- 53:02Speaker 2: what would you estimate they're playing in basketball because there's
- 53:05Speaker 2: fewer players?
- 53:06Speaker 1: Five.
- 53:07Speaker 2: That's what I would probably say. I'd be at cutting
- 53:10Speaker 2: it in half or being maybe just a little above it.
- 53:13Speaker 2: I still think five is too much. I think it's
- 53:16Speaker 2: probably around four.
- 53:18Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 53:20Speaker 2: They are being brought down by Boston College.
- 53:22Speaker 1: By the way, I do want to walk back my take.
- 53:24Speaker 1: They don't stink at everything. They do have five championships
- 53:29Speaker 1: in hockey.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Yeah, they're great at hockey. You're exactly correct. One person said,
- 53:34Speaker 2: NIL has leveled the playing field. You can't give Will
- 53:38Speaker 2: Stein's credit and not see the same thing going on
- 53:41Speaker 2: in the basketball fan base.
- 53:45Speaker 1: You can't give Will Stein credit. And not see the
- 53:49Speaker 1: same thing going on in the basketball field. I don't understand. Well,
- 53:53Speaker 1: I don't agree, first of all. It's like, okay, the
- 53:57Speaker 1: playing field is getting level, but he's still not giving
- 54:00Speaker 1: the amount of money that Texas, Texas A & M, Florida... Alabama, Georgia,
- 54:09Speaker 1: Ohio State, Michigan, and he's still having this kind of success?
- 54:12Speaker 1: I don't know if I necessarily agree with it. Now,
- 54:15Speaker 1: the question I would pose back at you, Texter, do
- 54:18Speaker 1: you like that there is more.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Of a level playing field in college football today? Do
- 54:27Speaker 2: you like that, that teams are doing a lot better
- 54:31Speaker 2: because of the level playing field?
- 54:34Speaker 1: Certainly makes it more fun. And there's a lot more parody.
- 54:36Speaker 1: What makes it more fun? I'll tell you that. To me,
- 54:38Speaker 1: it does as well.
- 54:39Speaker 2: I mean, the parody in college sports has made it
- 54:42Speaker 2: more fun. Now, for the teams that have clearly dominated
- 54:45Speaker 2: for many years, I don't think they like it. I
- 54:47Speaker 2: don't think the Alabamas like it. Florida State, well, they've
- 54:52Speaker 2: been down for some time now. But, you know, back what?
- 54:54Speaker 2: When's the last time Florida State was good?
- 54:58Speaker 1: That year when they were 11-0 and got screwed out
- 55:00Speaker 1: of the playoffs.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Oh, that's right. Well, they didn't deserve it, though, did they?
- 55:04Speaker 2: So same thing goes for Notre Dame. But don't get
- 55:07Speaker 2: me started.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Come on.
- 55:08Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 55:08Speaker 1: You're getting yourself started. I am. I am.
- 55:10Speaker 2: But I like the parody in college sports. I like
- 55:14Speaker 2: it for the football side.
- 55:15Speaker 1: I don't know that. I do think you've gotten more
- 55:17Speaker 1: parody in college football than you have in basketball. Yeah.
- 55:22Speaker 1: I still think the top teams in basketball are still
- 55:25Speaker 1: the top teams.
- 55:25Speaker 2: You're probably right there.
- 55:27Speaker 1: But that will, I mean, I would imagine that will
- 55:29Speaker 1: eventually find its level too.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Probably so. Let's get to 48 Handley right here.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Oh, my.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Let me get to the right one. The first Breeder
- 55:41Speaker 2: Cup Classic still remains as one of the greatest renditions
- 55:45Speaker 2: of the race. Patrick Allen Day, the pride of Brush, Colorado,
- 55:50Speaker 2: won on Wild Again, whose owners ponied.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Up $ 60, 000.
- 55:54Speaker 2: To supplement him into the race. Day sent him early
- 55:59Speaker 2: and was hooked up in a vicious pace. Turning for home,
- 56:03Speaker 2: most people expected him to fold as race favorite.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Slew of gold moved.
- 56:09Speaker 2: To challenge along with the quirky gate dancer and his earmuffs.
- 56:15Speaker 1: Okay.
- 56:16Speaker 2: But they never got by him. And the owners realized
- 56:21Speaker 2: a nice return on their investment. That's the part. I
- 56:24Speaker 2: remember the first readers come back in 1988 to Churchill Downs.
- 56:27Speaker 2: I was there. So those were fun, fun races. And
- 56:31Speaker 2: they still are fun races. I love Breeders' Cup because
- 56:34Speaker 2: every race is huge.
- 56:37Speaker 1: That's what I love. Oh, yeah.
- 56:39Speaker 2: One person said, I saw the premiere of Seabiscuit at
- 56:42Speaker 2: the Louisville Palace. Oh, that's pretty cool. It was a
- 56:45Speaker 2: comp for gold club members at Churchill. The audience erupted
- 56:49Speaker 2: when Gary Stevens, who played the Iceman, George Wolfe, appeared
- 56:53Speaker 2: on screen wearing a huge white Stetson hat. But I
- 56:57Speaker 2: ran into Gary Stevens at Churchill over the last spring.
- 57:02Speaker 2: And what a what a cool guy he is. So
- 57:06Speaker 2: one person said Pope is a Pope is a geek
- 57:08Speaker 2: and honestly may have his Mormon values out of touch
- 57:12Speaker 2: with today's world. I'm not going to say he's a geek.
- 57:15Speaker 2: He's just I will. OK, he's different. The worst is
- 57:19Speaker 2: when someone lets the door close right on you and
- 57:23Speaker 2: doesn't try to hold it open a bit. People are
- 57:26Speaker 2: too self-centered and don't care, unfortunately. That part I can
- 57:29Speaker 2: agree with.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:30Speaker 2: All right, so when that happens, there's a couple times
- 57:34Speaker 2: I've accidentally made a noise. And either they walk on,
- 57:38Speaker 2: and I've had a person turn around and say, oh,
- 57:40Speaker 2: I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were there. Sometimes
- 57:42Speaker 2: they truly don't know you were there.
- 57:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:44Speaker 2: But there are times when they know. I don't know
- 57:47Speaker 2: that I've dealt with that too much.
- 57:48Speaker 1: Really?
- 57:48Speaker 2: All right, then. Well, uh, the only thing that wasn't
- 57:53Speaker 2: great yesterday was UK volleyball, uh, traveled to Knoxville and
- 57:56Speaker 2: lost to number nine, Tennessee.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Yeah. What are we doing? Yeah.
- 58:01Speaker 2: Uh, it's, it's a good volleyball game. They lost three
- 58:03Speaker 2: to two. So, uh, number four, I mean, maybe we
- 58:07Speaker 2: went out celebrating our new contract a little too much.
- 58:10Speaker 2: I'm just joking. Craig Skinner. I'm just joking. Don't get
- 58:14Speaker 2: mad at me. Don't call me after the show, but, uh, Yeah,
- 58:16Speaker 2: it was a bummer that they lost to Tennessee yesterday. So, anyway,
- 58:19Speaker 2: that was a wild, I mean, think about it. They
- 58:22Speaker 2: went to Oklahoma, won there. They went down to, wasn't it?
- 58:27Speaker 1: Arkansas.
- 58:27Speaker 2: Arkansas, that's right. They went to Arkansas, won there.
- 58:30Speaker 1: I mean, come on.
- 58:31Speaker 2: You can't, they went, as far as games three, six, nine,
- 58:35Speaker 2: nine and three. That's pretty good.
- 58:38Speaker 1: For three games. You've only got six regular season games.
- 58:41Speaker 1: It's almost over. I know it.
- 58:43Speaker 2: And then you got the tournament, and then you got
- 58:45Speaker 2: the SEC tournament, then the big tournament. So, yeah, season's
- 58:48Speaker 2: winding down quickly. UK women's basketball player Clara Strack was
- 58:54Speaker 2: named preseason all-SEC first team. I don't think we're surprised
- 58:59Speaker 2: by that. And then how do you say her name? Miara?
- 59:03Speaker 1: Is that right? Miara? O'Neal?
- 59:05Speaker 2: Shaquille O'Neal's daughter?
- 59:06Speaker 1: Let me look. Okay.
- 59:09Speaker 2: She was named... second team All-SEC. So congratulations to both
- 59:13Speaker 2: those players for UK basketball. I am looking forward to that.
- 59:18Speaker 2: And by the way, if you haven't seen it or not,
- 59:20Speaker 2: I don't have where it's going to be, but they're
- 59:22Speaker 2: going to have a night in Lexington, if you want
- 59:25Speaker 2: to travel over there, where Kenny Brooks is going to
- 59:28Speaker 2: do his radio show live at a restaurant.
- 59:31Speaker 1: That's fun.
- 59:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I thought. Yeah, I'd say Miara, too.
- 59:35Speaker 2: You would say Miara?
- 59:36Speaker 1: Okay. All right.
- 59:38Speaker 2: Can we talk about this for a second? What's going
- 59:41Speaker 2: on with WDRB and Wave 3?
- 59:43Speaker 1: They merged. They merged. Yeah. Like six months ago.
- 59:47Speaker 2: Oh, is that long?
- 59:49Speaker 1: I don't know. So I just realized that they merged.
- 59:53Speaker 1: I guess it was about a month ago when I
- 59:55Speaker 1: went to one of their websites and it said like
- 59:57Speaker 1: WDRB plus wave. And I was like, wait, what? Yeah.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: What's going on here? So I texted Peek about it
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: because he used to work for WHAS. Oh, did he really?
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: He's got an inside track on the news scene here
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: in Louisville. And he was like, yeah, they did that
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: like six months ago. Nobody knew him until recently. Yeah.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: So Gray Media that owns Wave 3 bought WDRB from
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Block Communications. I've never heard of either one of these things, but.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: It's like the strangest thing. Now you got advertisements of
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: the Mark Weinberg standing there with Kevin Harned. It's like, okay,
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: this is blowing my mind.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: It's weird. Yeah, it is.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Can I just say I'm not sure I like all this?
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: It's just, it's odd.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, you're going to have people working for,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: like you're going to see Don G on WDRB. It's
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: going to be like, wait, what? Yeah.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: What's going on here? Yeah.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Uh, by the way, cutter bully has been benched by
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Arizona state.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Good for him.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Well, good for him. Why is that good?
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: That's cruel. He's getting paid to not play football. That's great.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: All right. It's like my dream. Oh my gosh, man.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Getting paid to be a backup. You kidding me? Yeah.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: It's no better job in sports. Oh boy. Here we go.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Are you ready for this? The negativity for basketball is exhausting.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: If you get a chance, listen to Jack Pilgrim's podcast.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: According to him, there is a five-star that wants to
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: come in, but all the negativity is pushing him away.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: This fan base is awful. Moving back to Ohio.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Well, I mean....
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: You know, he puts a laughing emoji after that, but
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: you're right. But I could see where the fact that
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: you get part of the fan base that is negative
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: towards Mark Pope, where a recruit would not want to
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: come here. It's like, well, how long is he going
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: to be here? Why do I want to go to Kentucky? Listen,
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: I'm not rooting against Mark Pope. I'm just questioning, okay?
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: And I think that's okay.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: I think it's okay to question whether or not your
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: coach is doing a good job. I mean, you can't say, oh,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: he's doing a fantastic. I can't wait. I can't wait.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: And then you go nine and 26. I mean, come
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: on now. Do you want me to still be positive?
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Nine and 26. This isn't Billy G walking through the door.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: That was rude.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: I'm using it as an example is all I'm doing.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: That was rude. Nine and 20.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: I know we're not going to go that way. Listen,
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: I still think there's a chance for this team to
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: play really well.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: I really do.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: But then part of me is thinking, is this team
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: really going to come together and play well? I just, we'll,
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: the true, one of the big tests is going to
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: come tomorrow night and we'll see how this team plays.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Again, it's an.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Exhibition and I'm certain Mark Pope's not going to show everything.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: He's still going to play probably vanilla basketball. But then
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: when we start playing in New York and Chicago and
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: then we start playing UofL and we're not seeing that,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: I'm not going to be sitting here thinking, oh, Mark
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: Pope's doing a great job. I'm just not going to.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: I'm going to criticize him the way he should be criticized.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: But also, I'm going to celebrate him when he should
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: be celebrated. Right now, I'm kind of in between.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Hopefully, we're doing more celebrating than not.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: You're exactly right. I mean, I hope so, too. And
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: I guarantee he hopes so. But anyway, we'll just have
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: to see what happens, and we'll go from there. All right,
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: let's talk about some football. UK wide receiver Kenny Darby
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: named as a mid-season true freshman All-American.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: How close is he to being a real All-American and
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: not just a freshman All-American?
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that close. Really? I mean, if you
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: look around the country, there are some really, really good
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: wide receivers. And he's been one of them. In due time,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: he's going to be one of the best in the country.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I just don't think he's there yet. But freshman definitely deserves.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: Will he be a first team All-American next year, do
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: you think? I think he'll be a second year.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Is Kenny Minchie back?
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: Kenny Minchie? Yeah, he's a junior.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: If he's back, then yeah, I could see that.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: I thought he was a junior. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: I think he does have one more year. I think
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: you're right. Yeah, okay. Okay.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Uh yeah he's he's uh he's just he's a junior
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: so there you go no he's a senior kenny minch
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: he is a senior.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Well he would have a fifth year right doesn't everybody
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: moving forward have a fifth.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: Year oh that's right you're right about that yes so
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: we got him for a couple years so but i
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: mean either way it goes we still got some great
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: recruits that are looking at quarterback here yeah so uh
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: i was happy for let's not forget about baseball dude
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: baseball oh yes exactly i can't remember his name yeah
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: uh but but Bringing up baseball, by the way, did
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: you see where Nick Mingione has been talking about, says
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: that when Will Stein wins, everyone on campus wins? He
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: says that the success of the football team goes far
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: beyond the football field.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: Is he right?
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: I say absolutely.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Isn't that common knowledge that football kind of rules the roost?
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Does it really?
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: Because it hasn't at UK. It's always been basketball.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: It's ruled the roost.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: But when football succeeds, it does seem like that everybody
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: else is really getting into every sport.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: Todd raises all boats.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: I love that. That's twice you've used that this week,
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: and I think that's a great one.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: You laugh. I do. I love it.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: But I think it's great. Let's talk about UK's strengths. Oh, no,
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: we got to take a break. All right, when we
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: come back, I want to talk about this. What has
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: been UK football's biggest strength this year? Because we're a
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: little past midway season, and I want you to think
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: about during the break, and you tell me, is it
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: going to be defense, is it going to be offense,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: or is it going to be a combination of both?
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Let's talk about it when we come back.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: So, 502-414-1450.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: It's gotten a little quiet on the Whiskey Thief text line.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: I'd appreciate it if you text in. So, stay right there.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: We got two more segments of Jessica. Oh, rock and
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: roll is a scary business.
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: No hit records, no MTV videos. You'll never make it here.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: It's scary.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Let's do.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: It, Carl Reifers.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Looked in my laptop, what did I see?
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: A flashing message said to day therapy. Rather walk through
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: fire than converse with my shrink. But I'm getting better,
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: that's what some people think.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: 502-414-1450.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: You want to text on the Whiskey Thief text line,
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: you can do that right now. I'll take care of
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: a couple of these right now. This Thursday night football game,
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: I said that one. Why is it saying that one again?
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: There we go.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: I agree with the texter about the fan base. Look,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: even if Pope does well this season, thank you, John,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: they will still find a way to spin it so
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: he looks bad. Exactly. Justin is right about the Billy
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: G comment. Some, if not a lot, of the fan
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: base certainly tries to put Coach Pope on the same level. No,
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: he's not on the same level as... Not even close. No,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: not even close. I mean, I'd put him on the
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: same level as Joker Phillips as far as football. They
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: both were there, what, two years? And they both just
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: had the programs plummet. So, I mean, you laugh, but
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: I mean that sincerely.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: The Billy G experiment was my favorite in Kentucky history.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Why is that?
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: Because it was so fun to laugh at from afar.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: Oh, my.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Okay. Because it was just a complete disaster.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. So, but one person said, the negativity
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: of basketball is exhausting. No, I read that one.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Michael.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: I get questioning, but you have to let the season
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: play out. Texter, you're exactly correct. I'm right there with you.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Pope has had two years, good first year, second year,
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: bad roster uh construction and missed on recruiting don't forget
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: everyone thought last year's roster was the championship roster at
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: the beginning of the year that's true and texter i
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: i could not agree with you more and that's a
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: great text right there so i'm gonna be right there
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: with you and and if it uh uh if the
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: fan base is going to be awful i'm moving to
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: ohio with you okay we're just go up there we'll
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: we're in a duplex we'll have a good time.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: I'll tell you right now there's a lot of places
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: i would move ohio would not be one really no i'm.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: Good i like cincinnati i've always liked cincinnati.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: Up near dayton i guess it's like where my uncle
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: lives is kind of cool but why.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Do you what's wrong with cincinnati you got the reds
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: which you love the reds got the bingles which you
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: hate and uh I don't know. I think it's kind
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: of a cool place. To me, some of the best
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: ribs in the country are up there. What's the name
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: of the rib place that's so good up there?
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Couldn't tell you. Okay. It's really.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: Cincinnati has great ribs. Let's see. Oh, he's just correcting.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: Let me make sure I get this right. Okay. Sorry,
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: forgot to text this earlier. Justin, the look on your
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: face yesterday when Michael brought up Diego Pavia was priceless.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: I always forget that I'm on the YouTube. Also, if
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: he is drafted by the St. Louis Battle Hawks, then
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: I'm adopting the Louisville Kings until he is gone.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: Jamie does not like Diego Pavia either.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: You seem surprised. Jamie's a smart fella. Are you sure
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Jamie's a fella? Oh, that is our woman. I was
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: going to say. Sorry, Jamie. That's our woman, Jamie. Yes.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: You're right. Come on now.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Well, she's a smart lady. That's funny, though. See, I
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: didn't get to see your face, so I don't know what.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: And I would kill to see what your facial expression
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: was yesterday. Well, good news for you is the show's
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: still up on YouTube. All you got to do is
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: go to Big Exports Radio Louisville. You can find it there.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Okay. All right.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: I might have to go do that just to see
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: how your facial expression. Let me see. Oh, this is interesting.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Black is slimming. Yeah, because of the black uniforms last week.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: And then we were talking about black. I know.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: This is today.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know why he's saying it today,
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: but I've always heard that wearing black is slimming.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: By the way, I've lost more weight.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Have you?
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm the lowest I've been in. I can't tell
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: you how long.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Good for you. In many years.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: But maybe I don't know. I just never liked wearing black.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: And I just thought, you know, looking at the uniforms
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: last weekend, they look kind of cool in the pictures.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: But on TV, you said it too. Yeah. I didn't
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: think they looked great. Didn't come across good. But it's
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: not up to me. Don't listen to me. It's about
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: the players. If the players want to wear it, by golly,
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: I want the players wearing it. That's all that matters.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: One person texted in. Let me see here. Yo, fellas,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: how about those basketball cards? They're going to be fun
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: to watch. I can confirm that. I just don't want
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: to see Kelsey. I mean, they can go have their fun, but,
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: I mean, yo, Texter, I mean, yeah, okay.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Did you see his tat last night? That must be
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: a new one. The ink looks fresh. On his left
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: upper arm?
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: No, I did not.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: His sleeve kept coming up a little bit, and you
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: could see the bottom part of it. I don't remember
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: him having a tat last season. Oh, really? Yeah.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: So could you tell what it was or said?
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: I couldn't, no.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Oh, now we got to find out what Kelsey's tatting
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: up with. I mean, okay, well, whatever. Okay, yeah, you're
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: going to have a fun season, okay? And I think
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: it's going to be not fun for UK fans watching UofL.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: Have a good time, and we got to deal with Mr.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: uh harry carry midget so uh he wore black because
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: he uh we were going to their funeral oh that's
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: i i agree with that that is why you wear
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: black because oklahoma's funeral was last weekend montgomery and that's
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: it thank you texter have you never been to montgomery
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: and barbecue no oh my gosh man here's what they
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: do that's so special they heat up their barbecue sauce
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: and bring it to the table hot And I love that.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: They have some unbelievable onion rings, and you take that
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: heated barbecue sauce and eat it.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: I don't know that that sounds good. Really?
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: I'm just not a big barbecue guy in general.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Oh, you're not?
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Not really.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: I think it's pretty overrated, more times than not.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: One person texted, and I was wondering why I said
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: anything about Pavia. Was his mom performing at the Godfather? What?
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: I'm going to get in trouble with some of the
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: texts that are coming on today.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: That may be the exception to me not frequenting strip clubs. Yeah.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that was never my cup of tea either. One
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: person said, Cincinnati is the birthplace of the legendary boxer
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: Izzard Charles and one of the greatest singers ever, Mel Carter.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: I have no idea who either of those people are.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I did start watching a- Mike Tyson documentary on Netflix yesterday. Oh,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: did you really? It's pretty good.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: I'm a Mike Tyson fan. I've always been a Mike
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Tyson fan.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: It was neat because I didn't realize.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Other than biting the ear off.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: I didn't realize how young he was when he first
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: got onto the scene and became champion and all that.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: It was fascinating.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: One person said, imagine Pat taking off those glasses like
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: a sexy secretary. Ha ha. It's not going to work.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: They have heated potato chips, not onion rings. No, I
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: get the onion rings, too. I thought they had onion rings.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: Maybe I'm wrong.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: I forgot it is the heated potato chips, but yes. Yeah,
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: they're homemade potato chips there. Thank you, Texter. Yeah, this
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: guy's correcting me all kinds of stuff. I thought it
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: was onion rings, too, though. They had, like, little shoestring
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: onion rings or something. But maybe I'm confusing it with
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: somebody else. But it is the potato chips. You're right.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Because they have one downtown on the river. And then
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: they have one up north where the original Montgomery Inn is.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they have onion straws. You're right. Okay.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: I was thinking they did. But anyway.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Let's talk about UK football right now. So far this season,
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: we're a little past midway through. What has been UK
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: football's biggest dream? Is it the defense or the offense?
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: I don't know that I could say one way or
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: the other. Because, you know, here's the thing about, and
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: let's talk about it for a minute. Defense has created turnovers.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: I mean, UK's defense is second in the SEC creating turnovers.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: They're tied with 11 with Georgia. I mean, can you
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: believe that? They are tied with Georgia, who as of
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: last week was the number one team in the nation.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: The most has been Alabama with 14. So they're only
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: three behind the number one team in the SEC with
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: creating turnovers. Now, Missouri leads the way with fewest turnovers
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: with three. UK is second right behind them with five turnovers,
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: which I didn't remember UK making five turnovers this year.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: I thought they would be number one, but it's Missouri
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: that has the fewest. So I look at this.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: It has to be four fumbles then because I think
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Minchie only has one interception.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: Exactly. So I'm trying to think where are the turnovers.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: So with that, you look at UK.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: One of them was on the punt return. Remember that? Yeah. Oh,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: that's right. That was one of them. Yes. Yes.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: So you look at UK defensively. They're second in the
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: conference when it comes to creating turnovers. You look at
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: UK offensively, they're second with fewest turnovers on the offensive side.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: And I look at this and I think, man, I
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: really thought the offense would be stronger, a lot stronger
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: than defense. The defense has come this year and really
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: been a force to reckon with. And they've been fun
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: to watch. especially with players going to, Will Stein, don't
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: worry about that, coach. We'll take care of it, and
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: they go back and get the ball. I look at this,
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: and I think, I really struggle.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Which way? I believe.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: I think it's a slight edge to the defense. That
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: has been the biggest strength for UK football. Going through
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: all of that, what do you think now, Justin? Do
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: you have an opinion yet?
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you just strengthened my opinion because I
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: don't feel comfortable one way or the other saying the
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: offense or the defense has been better. My answer was
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: going to be just taking, like, the turnover battles. That
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: has been their strength this season. Anytime they've won the
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: turnover battle, you win the game. You don't win the
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: turnover battle, you don't win the game. It's really been
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: that simple all season long.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: Will Stein had his weekly radio show last night with
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: Tom Leach. He said, I was kind of surprised by this.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: He said last night on his radio show that he
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: regrets going on that fourth down and four with six
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: minutes left. I was kind of surprised he regretted that.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: He said with the play clock winding down, he said
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: they were a little bit disorganized at that moment. And
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: he said, just kick the ball.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Just kick the field goal and go up by four, right?
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: That was a poor decision by me. I like the
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: fact that he went back to that specific play and
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: completely admitted it was the wrong decision.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: Well, at least, I mean, that shows that he's looking
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: inward after every game. And that's got to mean something.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Because I've said the statement a number of times. The
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: aggressiveness eventually is going to bite him. But if he realizes,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: whether it's in real time or not, that he's potentially
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: making mistakes, that'll give him an opportunity to correct those mistakes. Yeah.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: Potential mistakes. Well, we all have to remind ourselves. This
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: is the first year he is actually making all the decisions.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: And for the most part, I think 80– I'm almost
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: to the point of 90% of the time I think
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: he's made the right decision.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: I mean, you're sitting at 6-1, so it's hard to
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: say anything else.
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: Exactly. So you can't really argue. Now, at that point,
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: that was a bad decision. Especially, now, if it was
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: fourth and one, I say, yeah, okay, I can see
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: going for it. But it was fourth and, he said
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: three last night. I thought it was fourth and four.
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: Even if, anytime it's three or more yards, I think
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: that's too much to go for. Unless the game is
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: completely on the line and you're down. You got to
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: go for it. But at that point in time, I
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: think he was right to say, yeah, I was wrong.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: I was surprised he said that. And I was kind
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: of glad that he did. So, anyway, we got to
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: take our last break. We'll get back more of your
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: text messages. Plus, the availability report came out yesterday. We're
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: going to talk about that as well.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: You teased something on Crosstalk, too, we need to discuss.
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: Oh, about what today is?
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: Yeah, something invented today. Is that what it was?
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. We'll talk about that.
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll get back to that. Just making sure you
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: didn't forget. We'll talk about that as soon as we
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: get back. Just don't let me forget. We'll talk about it.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: That'll be fun.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: You'll enjoy it. I would never do it. Even today
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: I won't do it. But stay right there. One more
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: segment of Just Cats.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: That was trippy. I'm like, what the heck are you
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: playing here?
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: It's like you didn't realize they played that other stuff
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: before they played the rest of the song.
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: No, that tripped me up.
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I figured it did. All right, are you ready
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: for this?
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Ready. Born ready.
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: On this date, October 22nd, in 1797, André Jacques Oh,
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: my goodness. Your parent ascended 3200 feet in the air
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: in a balloon.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Oh, I saw this yesterday.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: And jumped out in what was the first successful jump
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: of a parachute.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Wait, that is not what I saw. Oh, it is it? No. Oh, yes.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: 17, this is how long the parachute has been around.
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: So instead of using a harness, Jacques rode inside a
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: wicker basket that was connected by rope to a silk
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: and canvas, a white canvas parachute.
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: Huh.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: And they said it happened in Paris, France at this
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: huge park, and thousands of people showed up to watch
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: him die because they thought that's what was going to happen.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: And when he jumped out, they said several people fainted
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: as he was jumping out. But, yeah, he descended to
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: the ground without injury. So there you go. A parachute
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: was invented today.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: I thought you were going to bring up Lawn Chair Larry. Oh, no.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: What's Lawn Chair Larry? You've never heard of Lawn Chair Larry?
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: I have not. So he's the guy who inspired the
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: movie Up. Have you seen the movie Up? No. So
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: it's a Pixar movie. You probably shouldn't have seen it.
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: But it's a really good movie. But this guy, back in,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: it was October sometime. I can't remember when. But he
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: decided he wanted to take flight. And so he went
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: out and bought all these helium weather balloons.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: Oh, I remember this, and he tied it to a
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: lawn chair.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: Yep, and he had a cooler, had sandwiches up there
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: with him, had a shotgun so he could shoot down
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: balloons for the descent, and thought he was going to
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: be a few hundred feet above the ground, and he
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: ended up getting up to like 16,000.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: I do remember this movie.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: Had a $ 4, 000 fine from the Flight Association or whatever.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: From the FAA? FAA, yeah. It was a crazy story. Really?
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: I didn't realize you'd get a fine for doing that. Well, yeah,
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: he was in airspace.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: I didn't. He was next to, like, the L.A. airport. Oh,
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: was he really? Yeah. Oh, why would you do it
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: next to the freaking airport? Well, no, that's just where
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: it took him.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: Oh, the wind drug him all the way there.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: So he got, there was a couple, I guess, pilots
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: that saw him, and they called it in, like, hey,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: we got this. Dude on a lawn chair with balloons.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: I love the fact that he had the intuition to think,
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: you know what? I might get hungry up there. I
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: think I'm going to take a sandwich.
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: And a cooler. A couple brewskis for that. Yeah, exactly. Listen.
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: Is that technically drinking and driving? Oh. I would say no, right? Oh,
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: You're flying. You are deaf. Or is it floating? What
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: do you call it? Flying or floating?
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Floating. Okay.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: Cause there's not enough beer. I mean, there might be
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: enough beer. I could steal a flamingo, but I'm not,
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: there's not enough beer for me to get a, uh,
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: a bunch of balloons and float up in the air.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: I'm just, I'm not doing, I've never done a balloon.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: I'm not interested in doing a balloon and I'm not
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: interested in doing parachute or any of that. Cause I
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: know you have, right?
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: And you'd do it again, wouldn't you?
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: I want to do it again, yeah.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: Do you really?
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: Absolutely. Yeah. It was awesome.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: No, absolutely no thank you. One texter said, you're right,
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: so good. Referring to the potato chips and the onion
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: rings with the barbecue sauce. And it is. PK referring
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: to himself in third person is gold.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: This is PK. This is who I am. That's a
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: great quote.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it was kind of goofy. Uh, but, uh, 48
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: Hanley said, see one 30 rolling down the strip airborne.
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: Daddy gonna get a little trip. We jumped with a
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: T 10. Oh my gosh. It's gotta be a song.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: It has to be.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: With that kind of rhyme right there. Uh, availability report
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: came out yesterday. Uh, and, uh, some of it good.
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: Some of it, I don't know. Uh, Vandy, I will
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: say this Vanderbilt. They got a lot of players listed
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: on their unavailable, uh, their unavailable list. So CJ Baxter
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: is back along with nose tackle Kalen Edwards.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: I was so surprised Baxter didn't play last week. I
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: was too.
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: I was convinced he was playing. I really was as well. So,
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: but he's back. That's good. Nose tackle Kalen Edwards is
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: back after missing last week as well. Reserve linebacker Tavian
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: Wallace is also expected to return after missing three games.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: So that's good.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: But two starters will miss from suffering injuries last week
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: against Oklahoma. Edge player Sam Green is going to be out,
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: which kind of sucks. I remember the play he got injured, too.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: And Nick Anderson, wide receiver, is not going to be playing. Now,
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: you look at Vanderbilt, they've got eight players out or out.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: And another one that is questionable. So almost nine players
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: are completely out there. Backup quarterback, listen to this. Blaise Berlowitz.
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: How do you like that name as a quarterback? I
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: loved it. The guy started a few games. And, of course,
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: they got that kid that's from Nashville that committed to Georgia,
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: the five-star, and then he backed out, decommitted, and went
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: to Vanderbilt.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Curtis. Yeah, Curtis.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: That's it. But anyway, so they don't have a backup
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: right now. Blaze Berlowitz. That's just, what a name that is.
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Kid was destined to be an athlete. Clearly.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: He's from Oklahoma. Cushing, Oklahoma.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: Blaze.
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's quite a name right there.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: So, I do too. So, good news and only a
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: couple of bad news for you, Kay. but I'm happy
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: to see CJ back-to-back. But, you know, even with the
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: injuries we've had, it hasn't affected us so much. We
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: were so worried about the linebacker room as far as
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: how thin it was a couple of weeks ago. UK
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: has handled it. You remember Mark Supes used to say,
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: next man up. And clearly, the next man up at
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: UK has done a phenomenal job. So I'm really happy
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: about that. That includes the wide receiver room, too.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: That's why I'm... Ideally, you want Nick Anderson playing on
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Saturday because he's just been, the last two, three weeks,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: he's been playing very well. It's been a nice compliment
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: to the other wide receivers and Willie Rodriguez. So I'd
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: like to see him out there. But this is also
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: one of those games where do you really need him?
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: Probably not. You hope not.
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: It's in last year's vanity. No, you're right about that,
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: but you never know. I just don't want it to
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: be a letdown. UK needs to beat them. By at
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: least a couple of touchdowns. I would be very happy
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: if they're up by 13, 14. at halftime. I just cannot
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: because can UK afford to overlook Vanderbilt? Absolutely not. I mean,
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: what is their narrative to stay motivated in this game?
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: That's a great question. I mean, what is it? And
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: you look at it. Here's the narrative, Justin. They have
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: UK has only won one game in the last five years.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: That's the motivation right there. That should be enough. You
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: cannot continue to lose to Vanderbilt. You just can't.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: You shouldn't.
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: No, you shouldn't. But, I mean, we'll see, though. I
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: just cannot believe if they win Saturday, UK's going to
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: be 7-1.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: It's nuts. It is. Will they?
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: It's... Use your words.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: It depends on.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: I was trying to use another word, and I'm going
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: to use it wrong. But it's all... Depends on who
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: wins and loses in the top ten. But if there
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: are two or three teams that lose in the top ten,
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: does UK crack the top ten if they win versus
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: Vanderbilt this weekend?
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: If there's a couple that lose, yeah. Or if– I mean,
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think you can get there
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: without any losses in front of you. But if you
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: just come out and take care of business and destroy
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: this Vanderbilt team by 20-plus– It's going to be really
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: hard for the AP poll members to overlook that.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: I don't see how you can't. I mean, UK, there's
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: been a few media members like UK should be in
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: the top 10 right now as it is. The only
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: thing that's holding them back is because of the helmet.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: I mean, it's the UK on the helmet that's keeping them.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: And I agree.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: I've always thought that, but I firmly believe it now.
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: I mean, I just feel like that is the case,
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: and I feel like they deserve to be in there.
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: And at this point, if UK loses only one or
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: two more games, they'll be at the end of the season,
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: they'll be in the top 10. Because, you know, over
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: the past years, it's been UK breaks, cracks the top 25,
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: and then by the end of the season, they're out
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: of it. I really and firmly believe UK will stay
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: in the top 25 all season, the rest of the season.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: I really do. I'm probably right there with you. Yeah.
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: Because I think there's teams that they should beat.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: I mean, something would have to go horribly wrong for
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: that not to be. You're right. You're right.
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: I mean, if they could win out with Vanderbilt, UofL,
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: and Florida, all the home games, that's a must. And
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: they take one of the two away games. I mean,
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: it's just, I'm going to say it again. They're going
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: to be in the college football playoffs. And it's just
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: mind-blowing to me right now. I just never dreamed this.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: I hope this day was going to come, and we're
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: on the cusp of it right now, and it's so
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: much fun. Tomorrow, we're going to cover all kinds of stuff. Obviously,
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: we're going to talk about the UK-Vanderbilt game. We'll talk
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: about that a lot more. We'll talk about Vanderbilt and
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: what kind of a team they've got, or the lack thereof.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: Thank you. We've got a basketball game tonight. I know
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: it's an exhibition, but still, that's what I said, isn't it?
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: Tomorrow night?
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: You said tonight. Oh, I did?
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: Getting everybody's hopes up.
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: Okay, yeah. Sorry about that. It's tomorrow night. Texas Tech.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: So we'll talk about that as well. We got everything
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: to talk about. Now it's going to be an exciting day.
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: So I'm looking forward to tomorrow's show with all that
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: we will be covering. And Corey Price, right? Oh, I
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: forgot about that, too.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: It's going to be a fun-filled day. Yes, we got
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: Corey Price coming in because I want to hear how
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: his time was out in Norman.
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: So anyway, that'll be a fun time. So everybody... Appreciate
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: you listening. Appreciate all the text. We will see you tomorrow.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: Getting ready for Vanderbilt and UK football going 7-1. God,
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: I can't believe those things are coming out of my mouth.
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: Have a great day, everybody. We'll see you then.
