Maryland’s 943,000 EBT card users are getting upgraded, chip-enabled cards—like your credit card—to stop theft and fraud. New cards will arrive by mail in the next three weeks and feature “tap and go” convenience. Old swipe-only cards expire September 30, so activate your new card and set a PIN ASAP. This upgrade follows a crackdown on skimmer thefts—Secret Service removed 22 devices, saving $22 million. Tested with USDA, 92% of new card transactions succeeded.
