- 0:00SPEAKER_09: Hello, and welcome to T-Bone Sports, One Fan All Game Podcast number eight.
- 0:12SPEAKER_09: Well, we had some big news the last couple days.
- 0:15SPEAKER_09: If any of you have really been paying attention to the sports world There was a judge in Louisiana that agreed with Link Given that this class of 2022 that just graduated here last May of 2026 isn't gonna get the fifth year of eligibility like everybody else every other class from now on is getting.
- 0:37SPEAKER_09: All these players are suing.
- 0:40SPEAKER_09: The NCAA saying that's not fair, that they want to be able to if they don't make an NFL team and even some NBA even some basketball players are saying the same thing in the NBA.
- 0:52SPEAKER_09: Oh, well, we want to enter go back into college and enter the portal and and and go uh go go continue to play college football for uh you know another year and and see if we can improve our our our draft stock.
- 1:05SPEAKER_09: As long as you're a free agent and undrafted.
- 1:09SPEAKER_09: And you know what?
- 1:11SPEAKER_09: I I get where these players think it's fair that they get another year of college, but guess what?
- 1:17SPEAKER_09: You graduated, you left the college, you entered the NFL draft.
- 1:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you didn't get drafted, but you were on a you're on a team playing in the preseason, you know.
- 1:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you're not gonna make the team, but that's what happens when you're an undrafted free agent and you didn't prove yourself in preseason to make the the fifty the regular 53-man roster.
- 1:36SPEAKER_09: But there's a possibility you can make a practice squad, or there's a possibility you could make it onto another team.
- 1:42SPEAKER_09: You know, other teams do watch game film guys, you know, and they do watch other games and they do say, hey, you know, so-and-so will be a good fit for our team, or hey, so-and-so will be a good fit for our team.
- 1:54SPEAKER_09: But these players are so mad that they're not getting a fifth year of eligibility that they want to be able to have it, and they want to be able to go back into professionals, go back into college and and play another year and hope to re-enter the NFL draft and maybe do better.
- 2:08SPEAKER_09: Yesterday on Tuesday, and yesterday on Tuesday and then Monday, both the SEC followed suit of the Big Ten, and they will not allow players to return from the NFL or NBA to these teams.
- 2:28SPEAKER_09: Now, obviously we know LSU is in in in the SEC, and Lane Kiffin is like, oh, I'm gonna bring any player that wants to come back to college and I'm gonna bring them back and I'm gonna I'm gonna let them play if they don't make the NFL.
- 2:39SPEAKER_09: Like Kiffin, you're a flipping moron.
- 2:42SPEAKER_09: You're an idiot.
- 2:46SPEAKER_09: These guys left college.
- 2:48SPEAKER_09: They're now in the NFL.
- 2:49SPEAKER_09: If they can't suck it up and understand that they're not gonna make an NFL team or they're gonna make a practice squad, which still is in the NFL, yeah, you're not gonna get paid millions and millions of dollars like these kids are used to, and NIL, which is in itself needs to be fixed and done with.
- 3:06SPEAKER_09: But oh no.
- 3:07SPEAKER_09: You know, I I applaud the SCC for doing this.
- 3:11SPEAKER_09: I applaud the Big Ten for doing this.
- 3:14SPEAKER_09: The ACC is gonna be talking later this week to maybe implement the same rules or or allow and and do the same thing.
- 3:22SPEAKER_09: The Big 12 and Pac-12 we're discussing today whether or not they will follow suit, and I am going to hope and pray that the Big Twelve does the right thing and does not allow these players to come back in.
- 3:36SPEAKER_09: You know, because you you darn know that Texas Tech will be like, oh yeah, we'll allow players to come back because you know we we try to get a kid that gambled and and bent on college football.
- 3:46SPEAKER_09: We try to get him to play on our team, and you know, he broke the ru NCAA rules.
- 3:50SPEAKER_09: No, you fools need to understand this isn't this isn't a game.
- 3:55SPEAKER_09: Don't do it.
- 3:56SPEAKER_09: Don't allow these players to do it.
- 3:58SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna quick play this quick little segment off the score app about what has happened, and then the next little bit we will be getting into what the recap of the Broncos' last preseason game on Friday in Denver, which, you know, which definitely was not the best, but you know, we'll uh we'll get into that here a little bit.
- 4:27SPEAKER_09: So without further ado, it's a little bit segment on the SEC and the Big Ten won't allow players to return in the NFL or NBA.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: The SEC announced Tuesday that it won't permit its schools to roster players who've spent time in the NFL and NBA.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: The conference added that Commissioner Greg Sankey is authorized to enforce this expectation with penalties against member institutions.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: The SEC vote was 16-nil, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamill.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: The decision comes after one of the SEC's largest programs, LSU, agreed to add two undrafted rookies who were recently with NFL teams at training camp.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Tight, N.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Daquin Wright and defensive lineman's Xavian Harris, were among 16 former CFB athletes who were granted a temporary restraining order in Louisiana, that allowed them to enter the transfer portal and seek a fifth college season.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: The court dispute stems from the NCAA's new age-based eligibility rule.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: It allows athletes to play college sports for five seasons, but doesn't apply to those who began college in 2022.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: The Tigers basketball team also recently welcomed R.J.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Lewis Jr., who spent time with two NBA teams after going undrafted in 2025.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: The Big Ten released a statement Tuesday morning after also approving a rule that prohibits NFL players from playing for one of its schools.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: The conference didn't include basketball in its announcement.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Other major conferences are expected to follow suit.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: LSU head coach Lane Kiffin pushed back against the SEC and Big Ten earlier Tuesday, pointing to a double standard from the two conferences.
- 5:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 6:00SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 6:00SPEAKER_09: Here comes from a guy that abandoned his team when they were in the playoffs to go to go to this school.
- 6:06SPEAKER_09: And, you know, Lane Kiffin is is a joke.
- 6:10SPEAKER_09: And n the NCAA I hope the SEC and NCA will definitely do sanctions if he allows the player because you know he's gonna allow the players to do it, and and he's he's gonna he's gonna disregard.
- 6:23SPEAKER_09: But for these two players to basically be like, well, I I didn't make uh yeah, you're not gonna make the team.
- 6:29SPEAKER_09: You you didn't prove yourself in preseason.
- 6:31SPEAKER_09: You got one more game.
- 6:33SPEAKER_09: You're gonna make the practice squad.
- 6:35SPEAKER_09: Go ahead and go back in and and at least man up and and play You know, play in you know, play on the practice squad.
- 6:43SPEAKER_09: See, maybe someone other team will pick you up.
- 6:47SPEAKER_09: Oh boy.
- 6:48SPEAKER_09: So Friday's game between the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos.
- 6:53SPEAKER_09: Oh boy, it was it was rough.
- 6:55SPEAKER_09: Obviously, we know the starters played well.
- 6:57SPEAKER_09: You know, they they prepped and did a great job and and you know were able to move down the field and and score drive.
- 7:04SPEAKER_09: We did get a be we were able to see the first catch between Jalen Waddle and Bonex, which was pretty dang awesome from when I saw it on replay.
- 7:14SPEAKER_09: One of the things I did notice in watching that play a few times, it's it's Bonex and Waddle.
- 7:22SPEAKER_09: Their chemistry is incredible.
- 7:24SPEAKER_09: The effect that Bo Nix is comfortable enough to almost be scared to throw the ball early, because I think he doesn't he's so afraid that, okay, if I throw the ball now and Waddle hasn't made his full break, is the ball gonna be there in time by the time Waddle gets there?
- 7:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah, Waddle's that quick, Waddle is that fast.
- 7:48SPEAKER_09: You know, he can do it, you know, you can do it with a Cortland Sutton, you can do it with a Troy Franklin, you can do it with you know with a Jordan Bryant, you know, you can do it with a Marvin Mims, you can do it with a lot of these players, a lot of these receivers on the Broncos.
- 8:00SPEAKER_09: They have the speed.
- 8:02SPEAKER_09: This this wide receiver room for the Broncos is, in my opinion, just absolutely deadly.
- 8:11SPEAKER_09: There's so much depth, there's so much strength that you know how many wide receivers are you gonna keep?
- 8:19SPEAKER_09: What what position are you gonna go short on to keep this wide receiver room the way it is?
- 8:23SPEAKER_09: You know, uh what wide receivers are gonna make the practice squad because this this wide receiver room is so stacked, they they have you know some of the best, you know, and it just it just looks really, really good.
- 8:37SPEAKER_09: You know, some of the some of the plays, you know just were we're good.
- 8:41SPEAKER_09: You know, the second team, the third the second string, the third string just they looked horrible in the game.
- 8:47SPEAKER_09: You know, all three quarterbacks had a missed snap on the fum on on an on a center exchange.
- 8:52SPEAKER_09: You know, all three of them had it dropped.
- 8:54SPEAKER_09: Bo Nicks, Jared Stenham, and even Sam Ellinger.
- 8:59SPEAKER_09: Which, you know, you you look at the first preseason game where obviously we know Bo Nicks didn't play, but Sam Ellinger did, and so did Jared Stenham, and they looked they looked great.
- 9:12SPEAKER_09: You know, they look they looked awesome, they were able to make clean, crisp passes, but you know, this game it was just all all over the place, and just they they didn't look good.
- 9:27SPEAKER_09: You know, and even you know, they asked Bonex, you know, how did it feel to be to come back and and play you know and play your first game, and he was excited.
- 9:38SPEAKER_09: So another quick little video I'll play here.
- 9:40SPEAKER_09: Again, thank you to Denver Broncos.com.
- 9:44SPEAKER_09: For these segments I play.
- 9:47SPEAKER_09: The Bonex finds Jaden Wallow for a 35-yard touchdown.
- 9:55SPEAKER_16: Some pressure.
- 9:56SPEAKER_16: And they do.
- 9:57SPEAKER_16: It's picked up nicely.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: Nick Sitten fell to the middle of that.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: J.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: Lib Waddle! This first catch from member of the Get Reporto's, and it's good for 30 yards of the first down.
- 10:08SPEAKER_09: Picks up a stunt to st you know that that play was just incredible.
- 10:13SPEAKER_09: The fact that he was able to be able to get in there and and get that play done, and and that clean crisp pass from Bonooks.
- 10:19SPEAKER_09: Bonooks just looks absolutely on fire, ready to go for the regular season.
- 10:25SPEAKER_09: Let's get another preseason game under his belt, but uh he looks good.
- 10:30SPEAKER_09: He's ready to go.
- 10:31SPEAKER_09: I think you know, the time off and the surgeries and getting that fixed, and I think he's you know gonna make that next big leap in in year in year three.
- 10:40SPEAKER_09: So, you know, again, we we had you know, these the touchdown to RJ Harvey for for the only score that you know the one of the only touchdowns of the Broncos, you know, that that first team got.
- 11:02SPEAKER_09: But, you know, they they struggled.
- 11:04SPEAKER_09: And it was it was a it was a rough game for for for preseason week number two.
- 11:10SPEAKER_09: Uh you you could tell that you you could tell that you you could tell that Sean Payton was mad, Jose Vance Joseph was mad, you know, and and even even Webb was were not happy about the execution on everything.
- 11:33SPEAKER_09: And you know, that's just the way it is.
- 11:37SPEAKER_09: You know, we we know that there's gonna be struggles in in every single game in the NFL.
- 11:41SPEAKER_09: Week to week is always gonna be a huge different thing.
- 11:45SPEAKER_09: But, you know, we'll we'll see.
- 11:47SPEAKER_09: Place uh press conferences here from Joseph, the assistant coach, Darren Razzini, and offensive coordinator Media.
- 12:00SPEAKER_09: They are gonna talk about this next game here against the Minnesota Vikings, and I'm sure there will be some questions regarding last game, and without further ado, here we go.
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: Stretch here for the finale, then obviously roster cuts right after it.
- 12:17SPEAKER_04: Like, yeah, how much do you want to see the guys who are maybe on that?
- 12:22SPEAKER_04: What can they do with this?
- 12:23SPEAKER_11: Awful lot.
- 12:24SPEAKER_11: I mean, obviously we're competing every day, and you know, guys are fighting for roster slots.
- 12:29SPEAKER_11: Guys are fighting to be starters or important backup roles, so every day.
- 12:35SPEAKER_11: You know, it's it's it's been a long camp.
- 12:38SPEAKER_11: It should be long, it should be hard.
- 12:40SPEAKER_11: That's part of the evaluation, you know.
- 12:42SPEAKER_11: If guys can continue to push through when things get hard, you know, and that's it's a long season, right?
- 12:48SPEAKER_11: And we have aspirations to play a long time.
- 12:50SPEAKER_11: So that's part of the evaluation to see who can maintain consistency for a long period of time.
- 12:56SPEAKER_12: That's what's right.
- 12:58SPEAKER_12: So all right, and what's what was the steps for you to see that?
- 13:01SPEAKER_11: That's a great question.
- 13:02SPEAKER_11: He's had a great camp.
- 13:03SPEAKER_11: He made a total commitment this fall with his body, with his prep.
- 13:07SPEAKER_11: Every single day he's been on.
- 13:09SPEAKER_11: He missed the entire spring with a shoulder injury, he came back on fire.
- 13:13SPEAKER_11: So, you know, that was one of my camp goals our first day of camp is to find some depth at the safety position.
- 13:21SPEAKER_11: You know, losing PJ was a big deal for us.
- 13:23SPEAKER_11: And he's had a great camp.
- 13:24SPEAKER_11: I've been proud of him.
- 13:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah, he's like he's a veteran, you know, he's he's very smart, he's been on great defenses.
- 13:34SPEAKER_11: I think Coach has a great job, and and um George, they do a great job of acquiring veterans that's been a part of great cultures and and winning defense and and winning teams, you know.
- 13:44SPEAKER_11: And he was he's that.
- 13:46SPEAKER_11: You know, I mean he was he fit right in, he's smart, he can make plays on the ball, he can cover, he can blitz, it's tough.
- 13:51SPEAKER_11: You know, so he was my kind of guy.
- 13:53SPEAKER_06: What steps that you think Hugh Robinson take from his rookie year, is that okay?
- 13:56SPEAKER_11: An awful lot.
- 13:57SPEAKER_11: You know, last year he didn't play enough, and I knew that this year he would take that step, and he's obviously one of our guys that we're gonna depend on to win games.
- 14:05SPEAKER_11: He is that important to our rotation.
- 14:08SPEAKER_11: He is very smart.
- 14:10SPEAKER_11: He's he's got the size you want, he's prototyped, he drops some coverage, he can catch the football, he can rush, said it's that edges.
- 14:15SPEAKER_11: So he's what you look for in a draft for that position, which is hard to find.
- 14:20SPEAKER_14: The touchdown drive that the Packers had in terms of ones.
- 14:23SPEAKER_14: Sean says that Alex maybe do an algebra four, a lot of switch out one and Alex, yeah, we can get to other Chiefs that.
- 14:30SPEAKER_14: Is that maybe an example of where these guys are in this defense?
- 14:32SPEAKER_14: I think we're here for so many years that they're advanced.
- 14:35SPEAKER_11: I think that I think that first drive was kind of twofold.
- 14:38SPEAKER_11: You know, for me, I didn't think we our approach, in my opinion, was was unengaged and a little bit lazy, right?
- 14:45SPEAKER_11: It wasn't the right approach, even in pregame.
- 14:48SPEAKER_11: So I felt that.
- 14:49SPEAKER_11: So that was the first lesson.
- 14:50SPEAKER_11: The second lesson is I think two games, you know, what we've played here, we've seen how offensive see us, right?
- 14:57SPEAKER_11: So lots of boots, lots of misdirection, outside runs more often than not, match protection passes, a quick game, you know.
- 15:05SPEAKER_11: Teams don't want to lose first down because if they do lose first down, our rush kind of takes, you know, it comes alive.
- 15:12SPEAKER_11: So I think that that game was an example of what is coming in the future, you know, how how teams see us.
- 15:18SPEAKER_11: Run game wise, pass game wise, winning first down with quick game boots, you know, outside runs more often than inside runs.
- 15:26SPEAKER_11: So to me, it was a great lesson on on both ends of when we play as a standard.
- 15:33SPEAKER_11: And and I want to say that all the time.
- 15:35SPEAKER_11: And obviously how teams see us, and in two weeks we've seen that kind of trend that way.
- 15:43SPEAKER_15: Like you when you mentioned that, is that something you detected like in in warm-ups as it was going on, or is that kind of a little bit more?
- 15:49SPEAKER_11: I kind of felt it there.
- 15:50SPEAKER_11: And you want your team to to grow and kind of control that part, right?
- 15:55SPEAKER_11: If you feel there's a coach in a regular season, you you address that.
- 15:59SPEAKER_11: But obviously in training camp, I want to see how they want to respond to you know a a long camp and you know, playing a better opponent, you know, week two.
- 16:07SPEAKER_11: You know, so disappointed in how we came out, obviously.
- 16:17SPEAKER_11: I think they're trying to get four yards, Licky, you know.
- 16:21SPEAKER_11: They don't want to be in second and seven plus or eight plus, because that's obviously a pass rush.
- 16:26SPEAKER_11: And I thought last year we did a great job of basically playing third down twice, you know, and most of our sacks came on second down.
- 16:33SPEAKER_11: Third downs is where they practice the protection plans, you know, and kind of slide the nick or whatever.
- 16:38SPEAKER_11: It's your coop.
- 16:39SPEAKER_11: But second downs is where we made our hay, you know, as far as the patch rush.
- 16:43SPEAKER_11: So I think teams understand that.
- 16:44SPEAKER_11: You know, we've watched it over the summer and the spring.
- 16:47SPEAKER_11: So just getting ready for how teams are gonna play us.
- 16:50SPEAKER_11: That's been my lesson for our guys, you know, the first two weeks, man.
- 16:54SPEAKER_11: This is our new life, right?
- 16:56SPEAKER_11: DBs, first and ten, man.
- 16:57SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be a quick game, right?
- 16:58SPEAKER_11: They catch a slant, now they're second and four, second and five.
- 17:01SPEAKER_11: That favors the offense, doesn't favor us.
- 17:04SPEAKER_11: They hand it off, they get two more, they're third and two.
- 17:06SPEAKER_11: We can't rush to pass them now.
- 17:07SPEAKER_11: So I think we have to understand how teams see us and adjust how we play first down to continue to win first down.
- 17:13SPEAKER_11: That's important for us.
- 17:14SPEAKER_07: Man, so brought you brought in Rossville Jr., what intrigued you about him?
- 17:18SPEAKER_07: And you remember anything about his dad, all pro guard or remember his dad was a great player, you know, obviously in the league.
- 17:23SPEAKER_11: But this kid's smart, he's tough.
- 17:25SPEAKER_11: Coach Smedine actually coached him one year in college.
- 17:28SPEAKER_11: So, you know, we're familiar with this kid.
- 17:30SPEAKER_11: He practiced today and made a couple of plays.
- 17:32SPEAKER_11: I was surprised he even peeled under pressure, you know.
- 17:34SPEAKER_11: So with a 10-minute meeting before the before the uh practice, but he'll play a bunch on Friday, so we'll see where he's at.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: You get it seems like you get new players every year.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: Is it always a challenge at the beginning of the year to get everyone cohesive uh your units?
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I actually think, you know, as you look at my job as it relates to the rest of the guys in the league, it's our our job as special teams coordinators in these preseason games is to try to evaluate as many people as possible.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Sometimes the organizational part of that is you know, it's it's certainly a challenge.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: I we joke around the special teams coaches that these three preseason games are all our hardest games of the year, you know, from an organizational standpoint.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: So I you know, I think it's it's important to keep in mind, you know, what our goal is uh as special teams guys, especially according to this team.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Let's get as many guys evaluated as possible, let's get as many guys wrecked as possible so that we can evaluate especially as you mentioned the new guys, the guys that haven't been here.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: You know, I think the 50 guys, 49, 50 guys played on special teams last week.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: And so the institutional stuff can sometimes be a challenge to say the least.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: But it's great to get that many guys in.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, I it's really not about theme, it's not about, you know, you know, game planning, it's more about technique, fundamentals.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: And so you can play, you know, really it's it's so we're very, very limited in terms of our schematic stuff and more very basic fundamentals techniques and these guys, the new guys and the younger guys and the guys that haven't been here can get you up.
- 19:02SPEAKER_06: Next week at After Boss, is that when you really settle in on schematics and everything like that, or does it actually take a couple of weeks to be fixed?
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: No, you know, I think we what we do is we try to we mix some of the regular season stuff into our practice periods.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: But really, across the league, the special teams is very vanilla.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, you guys have done this for a long time.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: You guys know you watch the games, it's very, very basic.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Again, because everybody, just like my cohorts, they're all trying to do the same thing, we're trying to evaluate people.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: So we mix a lot of game plan stuff and today.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: Interestingly enough, we had a really good meeting today, about a half hour, 45 minutes of uh maybe some regular season schematic stuff, and then we'll start locking in, obviously, on our first opponent, you know, after the cut, so with because we know who's on the team, the matchups, all that.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: You know, we have our base things that we do, but it's more about the specific game plan.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: We really don't get into that, you know, here in the pre-season game.
- 19:51SPEAKER_07: Between week one and two, and then especially Colby had some great.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, listen, I I I think I mentioned this last week.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: I think I think all three of those uh newer, younger guys have all shown flashes.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: You know, Colby's had a couple of of plays where he really, you know, gained a lot of yards, gained a lot of ground.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: He had two really good ones last week, you know, where you can see you know, him and put his foot in the ground, make a guy miss get vertical.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, I think all those guys have shown promise.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: And so that's that's good.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: I think it's one thing you know, we lacked a little bit last year was just some depth in that area.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: So whether it's on the team or on the practice squad or what what have you, I think that you know, we have some options here.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: So maybe there'll be some more options than we had last year.
- 20:29SPEAKER_08: Time for a few more?
- 20:30SPEAKER_14: With the Ross to be pretty well said, not a lot of jobs up for that.
- 20:33SPEAKER_14: Do you think this year maybe more than most special teams can play a bigger factor into a guy landing on the four for years of X?
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Uh I do.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: I think with where we are, this particular organization, this particular team, I think there's gonna be some, you know, some really good conversations, some tough conversations this weekend when we talk about that at specific positions.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: I do think that there's certain spots on our team that uh this this third preseason game, you know, is gonna be another really great evaluation, particularly in our in my area, in our area.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Again, because you know, I think people may may forget, you know, that the special teams game in the NFL right now is so much different than college and the point rule is completely different, the kickoff rule is completely different.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: This is a whole new world for these for these rookies in particular.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: And so I think that's maybe the best part about these preseason games is those guys getting the live action and then seeing who can do the job and uh and evaluate a lot of guys.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I think I think there'll be some really you know tough conversations this weekend when it comes to those last uh few spots on the table.
- 21:26SPEAKER_15: That new world, like how much difficult has it made for you in the evaluation process when you're studying the film of that, especially if you have all that.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you you really just have to kind of go down to the bases, right?
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: The the open field, you know, the open field play.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: You take a look at this base.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: I think the defensive players are a lot easier to evaluate than the offensive players, quite frankly.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: At least you can see a defensive back, a linebacker, you can see those guys, you know, maybe on their side of the ball where you don't see as much of the offense.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: And then a lot of uh college offensive players don't play special things, especially the guys that make it to the NFL, uh the running backs, the receivers, the tight ends.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Or marquee players in college.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: You know, rarely do you see those guys, uh, maybe occasionally as a returner.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: But then you have a small school guy like like Colby, for example, that you know, that did it, which is he's he's kind of a rarity.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, those guys, some of those guys have never tackled, some of those guys have never blocked, quite frankly.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: You know, maybe on offense they have, but but it's totally different in the open field.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: So that's a challenge for us throughout the throughout you know the offseason training camp and all that, get those guys well prepared.
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: How much happens like with young guys like that?
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: Like how they're progressing on their sort of side of the wall just in terms of you know, hey, this guy maybe he's definitely not gonna make it if he's a question of like how much is how much you're I think it's a great question.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: We have to do a great job of the special team staff of paying attention to the personnel meetings, you know, and and understanding where guys are in in their position group, right?
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: And if a guy's a bubble guy, is he definitely on the team?
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Is he a long shot?
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: And making sure that those guys are the guys that, you know, we're seeing a lot of.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: So I think for us this has been a little bit of a blessing and a curse in the in terms of the preseason.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: We've got a lot of guys in and seeing a lot of guys, and so sometimes as uh caught up in the results.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: So obviously we want to do well, we want to win, we want to, but it's more about the evaluation part.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: But your point about listening and making sure we're locked in special team staff wise to where guys fit in in their room is really important, especially as we get closer to the coach.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: Davis, what did you make of those to hear his uh uh product?
- 23:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I thought he did a really good job.
- 23:28SPEAKER_10: Like we kind of talked about get back to those fields, and you know, he handled that really good.
- 23:32SPEAKER_10: He's really efficient, good communicator in the huddle, in and out, was accurate with the football.
- 23:36SPEAKER_10: I think here's one play he would like to have back, but through two drives and almost being, you know, what is it, eight, nine months since the last time he's played?
- 23:44SPEAKER_10: It's pretty good.
- 23:44SPEAKER_04: Did you w did you make a considered effort of like wanting him to push the ball down the field like right out of the shoot?
- 23:50SPEAKER_10: It's just kind of it's week to week, you know, how you want to kind of sequence your first 12 to 15 plays and what do you want to do on the next drive and then in the next group.
- 23:59SPEAKER_10: So right now we're just kind of running our install plays, and if that kind of fits the defense we're playing, then we'll throw that in there.
- 24:05SPEAKER_07: But I thought he delivered it with a lot of conviction downfield, and that was how about his running game that you know obviously wasn't as good as week two of the preseasons, week one.
- 24:14SPEAKER_07: Talk about that.
- 24:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I mean I think uh Green Bay came in here and played really, really good.
- 24:18SPEAKER_10: You know, I thought there was a few flashes in the run game, and then we got called back for holding or something happened.
- 24:23SPEAKER_10: We're second and longer.
- 24:24SPEAKER_10: We just got into really bad situations down and distance wise, and that was good for me to learn from as a play caller for upcoming weeks, and I'm sure our O line runners will get it going this week.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: I think he was just stand still on a bucket.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: Is that something that you would like to see him do more?
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: Is it something he's working on you know this offseason?
- 24:47SPEAKER_10: I think the first thing, if you're able to stand still in the pocket, the old line's blocking.
- 24:51SPEAKER_10: So that's a good start.
- 24:52SPEAKER_10: But yeah, I I don't think his feet got dead at all.
- 24:54SPEAKER_10: I think Josh Allen does it every now and Tom Brady used to do every now and then.
- 24:57SPEAKER_10: I think the mind's relaxed, he sees something and kind of everything falls after that.
- 25:01SPEAKER_06: Do you think Jana Lonus played 39 years?
- 25:04SPEAKER_06: Is that what you've been seeing out here?
- 25:05SPEAKER_06: And is that the vision that you have for him in this offense?
- 25:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I'm glad he got an explosive.
- 25:09SPEAKER_10: I'm glad he got a touch early in the first drive.
- 25:11SPEAKER_10: That was definitely the goal going into the game.
- 25:13SPEAKER_10: They played man to man and he got Xavier, which I can say that because he's an old teammate.
- 25:17SPEAKER_10: So that was that was fun.
- 25:19SPEAKER_10: But it was cool to see his response to the fans, his response to the end zone with like the posters going up, Miles on the uh scoreboard, like he was in awe.
- 25:30SPEAKER_10: So I'm glad he got to experience that before we get going.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: Kind of big picture with him out of the slot.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: How much more difficult does that make for an opposing defense defense?
- 25:38SPEAKER_10: He's gonna play everywhere.
- 25:40SPEAKER_10: He he's really, really good.
- 25:41SPEAKER_10: He's gonna play everything but O line.
- 25:43SPEAKER_10: So he'll he'll move around.
- 25:45SPEAKER_13: When it comes to continuity with an offensive line that bows had it from his rookie year, yeah, what does that allow the quarterback to do and expand his game?
- 25:52SPEAKER_10: Nothing.
- 25:52SPEAKER_10: I mean, I've never been around somewhere that's been like about to be four straight years of basically the same O line.
- 25:58SPEAKER_10: It's such a blessing because they're good dudes, they're coached well, they're nasty, you know, they take things personal, you know.
- 26:06SPEAKER_10: I think pass block wise, they've been pretty consistent over the last few years and run game wise.
- 26:10SPEAKER_10: I think we're trying to build on that consistency, not saying it's been bad, but we can definitely be more consistent.
- 26:15SPEAKER_10: That's a goal that we've tried to address this offseason.
- 26:18SPEAKER_10: And now we're just very blessed in all of our rooms that the O-line's been the most stationary and you know, they're the strength of our offense.
- 26:26SPEAKER_05: I don't necessarily have a very wide like Roger in college.
- 26:29SPEAKER_05: What is just about your impression of how he's been able to uh adapt as a receiver seems like you can get more area.
- 26:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I think Lou's done a good job with them kind of growing his mind and showing him clips and for visuals for success.
- 26:41SPEAKER_10: I think he did run a pretty good amount of routes in college.
- 26:44SPEAKER_10: Like he caught a couple rails, and that offense was a little different.
- 26:46SPEAKER_10: You're right about that.
- 26:47SPEAKER_10: But then there were some explosive catches, and then you watch his pro day workout, his combined workout, and you can see the potential for him in the pass game.
- 26:55SPEAKER_10: And I I know in the run game he's just tremendo tremendously improved out here.
- 26:59SPEAKER_10: So he's becoming a click back, three downs, and that's what he wants to be.
- 27:02SPEAKER_08: You ought to find some rhythm during his pre-season games.
- 27:06SPEAKER_08: How do you feel like about rhythm with the offense with the short amount of time that starters have played?
- 27:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I think it's been a little bit different because you have three quarterbacks in there, you got three O-line groups, three skill position groups, so it's kind of finding the rhythm and then moving on to the next rhythm.
- 27:19SPEAKER_10: Can't call the same plays as you would with the first group.
- 27:22SPEAKER_10: They're much more experienced in some of these plays.
- 27:24SPEAKER_10: So I think just finding that wavelength for everybody to get on to have some success is something that I struggled with last week.
- 27:30SPEAKER_10: Like we didn't play good enough in the third, fourth quarter.
- 27:33SPEAKER_10: So that would be a big emphasis this week to kind of get everyone on the same wavelength.
- 27:38SPEAKER_09: So, you know, all three coaches definitely had some good things to say, some bad things to say about how that second preseason game went and and how they're gonna lead up to this one.
- 27:48SPEAKER_09: You know, and and Davis Webb being a new play caller, you know, I think he learned a lot of a lot of valuable lessons in this game of you know, and he even said it there, where you can't call the same plays for the first team, then you do the second team, then you do the third team string guys, because they just don't have the experience, they just don't have the knowledge of of where that's gonna go.
- 28:10SPEAKER_09: So here in a couple weeks you know, one more preseason game for every single team, and then the few days off for some of these teams, about a week or so to cut down to the 53-man roster, the twelve-man practice squad, which I will do a podcast on that once we get all that said and done.
- 28:31SPEAKER_09: And then college football starts.
- 28:33SPEAKER_09: So let's hope it's gonna be a fun and exciting season.
- 28:36SPEAKER_09: Let's really hope that Alabama does really, really well this year.
- 28:40SPEAKER_09: You know they are.
- 28:40SPEAKER_09: They've always had that high pedigree and that high standard of of always being the top team in the SEC, and they're still always gonna be that team.
- 28:50SPEAKER_09: You know, but you know, I mean, Georgia and some of these other teams are are trying to knock them off the throne, and they were able to do Georgia was able to do that last year.
- 28:59SPEAKER_09: And winning the SEC championship, but you you're gonna see Alabama really go and fight back and say, roll tide.
- 29:10SPEAKER_09: Let's hope that the Buffaloes have a good season here.
- 29:12SPEAKER_09: You know, they they struggled last year big time, you know, the first two years that that Coach Primer here they had you know a really good season last year, they really struggled, but you know, let's hope that they can bounce back and and maybe get back into a bowl game and and actually win a bowl game this year.
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: But uh you know, we'll see.
- 29:32SPEAKER_09: It's gonna be an interesting season.
- 29:35SPEAKER_09: Let's just hope that the NCAA and these other conferences follow suit that the big the Big Ten and the SCC did and not allow these players to to come back from the NFL that aren't gonna make the team.
- 29:47SPEAKER_09: And it's understandable.
- 29:49SPEAKER_09: You know, the other thing a lot of these players need to understand is the NFL is a lot different than in college.
- 29:55SPEAKER_09: You don't like something you can't transfer, blah, blah, blah.
- 29:58SPEAKER_09: You know, this is this is a whole new ballgame.
- 30:00SPEAKER_09: This is this is other people that went to college just like you played football, just like you, you know, trying to fight to to keep, you know, a roster spot.
- 30:10SPEAKER_09: These even these veterans are fighting to keep a roster spot to keep on the same team, so that maybe they wind uh may not wind up on the team because they got outbeat by somebody else, but they're not gonna give up.
- 30:20SPEAKER_09: They're gonna try to go and go and you know make another team.
- 30:27SPEAKER_09: So we will see how the Broncos do in week three of the preseason.
- 30:33SPEAKER_09: We will get back to I will get back on that after that game on Friday, and we'll start talking a little bit more about Alabama football, Colorado football here next month.
- 30:44SPEAKER_09: We will start talking about the Colorado Avalanche, starting getting their off-season stuff rolling and into their training camp.
- 30:51SPEAKER_09: The Nuggets are starting to get their off-season stuff figured out and getting ready for training camp so that the start of season for October.
- 30:59SPEAKER_09: So thank you for listening to T-Bone Sports One Fan all game.
- 31:07SPEAKER_08: I love it! You guys are so great!
- 31:17SPEAKER_09: And one more little thing.
- 31:20SPEAKER_09: Sad news, as we all know.
- 31:22SPEAKER_09: Yesterday, we lost a great country singer and great person in Dolly Parton at the age of eighty.
- 31:28SPEAKER_09: May she rest in peace.
- 31:30SPEAKER_09: And God bless country music.
