- 0:00Speaker 1: The back of the iHeart Music. Don Chusky's open the
- 0:02Speaker 1: season on Tuesday in Annapolis, Maryland at Alumni Haul the
- 0:06Speaker 1: Armed Forces Classic. They'll take on Jeff Walls, who will
- 0:09Speaker 1: be starting his nineteenth season at Louisville. Remember those checker
- 0:12Speaker 1: shirts used to wear.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm supposed to. I owe him a phone call.
- 0:15Speaker 2: He called me and said call me back when you
- 0:17Speaker 2: get a minute. Just celebrated a birthday. This was two
- 0:19Speaker 2: days ago. I haven't gotten a minute yet to call
- 0:22Speaker 2: him back. If I could call him right now, if
- 0:23Speaker 2: you want to talk to him, yeah, he'd be great.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Five point fifteen for the broadcast. By the way, it's
- 0:27Speaker 1: a five point fifty tip. Correct. You sent me that today,
- 0:31Speaker 1: So five point fifteen for the pregame on Tuesday here
- 0:33Speaker 1: on the Yukon Sports Network. All right, GINO. Two of
- 0:36Speaker 1: your mainstays from last season's success. Sarah Strong was fabulous
- 0:39Speaker 1: all season long, broke the program freshman record for rebounds,
- 0:43Speaker 1: smashed it, and second all time in points for a freshman.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Only Maya scored more All American. And then you mentioned
- 0:51Speaker 1: Daisy Fudd became Asy Fudd in the NCAA tournament. They're back.
- 0:55Speaker 1: The third piece of that puzzle is not back, and
- 0:57Speaker 1: life without Page will be very different this year. How
- 1:00Speaker 1: is this team gonna look with KK Arnold running the show?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Well, I think that's what the season is going to
- 1:08Speaker 2: be about. Let's find out. Not easy. You know, it's
- 1:12Speaker 2: not easy going from you know, one role and you
- 1:19Speaker 2: know that's not just KK, that's Ash. You know, those
- 1:23Speaker 2: two guys were you know, those two guys, we were
- 1:27Speaker 2: starters as freshmen, and they had Nika and they had Paige,
- 1:32Speaker 2: you know, and they were coming off the bench of sophomores,
- 1:35Speaker 2: you know, and they had Paige and Caitlyn Chen you know,
- 1:40Speaker 2: two really experienced guards.
- 1:42Speaker 1: No turnovers in the last three games for.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Kaitlyn by the way, you know. And then you have
- 1:47Speaker 2: now you know, they're juniors and they look around and
- 1:51Speaker 2: it's like there's it's only them. You know. They don't
- 1:56Speaker 2: have that kind of comfort level that they had had
- 2:01Speaker 2: the last two years. So it's going to be a
- 2:02Speaker 2: real adjustment for those two. And KK is going to
- 2:06Speaker 2: have to do more in some ways, and Asy is
- 2:14Speaker 2: going to have to do more more than she did
- 2:17Speaker 2: last year.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Well she run the point at all.
- 2:20Speaker 2: You know, there'll be times when we play without necessarily
- 2:25Speaker 2: don't have to play with a point guard. You know,
- 2:29Speaker 2: we don't have to do that. You know, we were
- 2:32Speaker 2: in this situation years ago when Caroline Dodie and Tiffany
- 2:40Speaker 2: Ayes were both freshmen, and they were you know, both
- 2:43Speaker 2: of them. You know, they're in the back court blah
- 2:44Speaker 2: blah blah blah, and they had pretty they had a
- 2:47Speaker 2: pretty simple game plan.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I said, when you get the half court, throw the
- 2:52Speaker 2: ball Stephanie Dlson and get the hell out of the way.
- 2:55Speaker 2: And we just ran ourselves freshmen through steph.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Right, Maya and Tina.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're so good. We have we had
- 3:02Speaker 2: a pretty good team. Yeah, we had a pretty good team. Yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 2: so you know, we'll see. I think they have a
- 3:09Speaker 2: pretty they had a pretty good they They've been pretty
- 3:13Speaker 2: good in practice, trying to find consistent stuff. You know,
- 3:18Speaker 2: sometimes when people expect more from you, it's not a
- 3:22Speaker 2: great thing. I mean, it's always great when people expect
- 3:26Speaker 2: more from you, because it makes you feel like a
- 3:28Speaker 2: million bucks, you know, But then you try to do
- 3:32Speaker 2: more and you try to do too much sometimes. So
- 3:36Speaker 2: it's that fine balance between coach wants more from me.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So now I'm going to try to do more, but
- 3:42Speaker 2: now I'm doing stuff that I'm not comfortable doing. So
- 3:45Speaker 2: it's you know, a little bit of this, a little
- 3:48Speaker 2: bit of that, and eventually again as long as the
- 3:52Speaker 2: ball finds itself in Sarah and Asy's hands.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Will be all right. All right, we'll get back the
- 3:58Speaker 1: get back on schedule here when you to take a break,
- 4:00Speaker 1: Gino's with us till the top of the hour. Thanks
- 4:03Speaker 1: for joining us to you kind of women's basketball coach
- 4:05Speaker 1: a show on theirfield. Back in a minute.
