- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. Heading into a new week, and we're going
- 0:08Speaker 1: to do it with God. Each weekday morning at this time.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We listen to God by opening the Bible and just
- 0:15Speaker 1: reading a little bit out of His word to us.
- 0:19Speaker 1: That's what the Bible is. When you read the Bible,
- 0:21Speaker 1: you are actually meeting with God because God speaks to
- 0:26Speaker 1: you through the Bible. He takes the words that He's
- 0:30Speaker 1: put into the Bible and by His Holy Spirit.
- 0:35Speaker 1: He takes those words and speaks right into your life.
- 0:38Speaker 1: He shapes your understanding of this world and your place
- 0:42Speaker 1: in it, and he starts to build a close personal
- 0:47Speaker 1: relationship with you.
- 0:50Speaker 1: All this week we want to look at some of
- 0:52Speaker 1: the Psalms in the Bible that connect us with God.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Most of the Psalms were written by King David in
- 0:59Speaker 1: the Bible, and today I want to start with a
- 1:03Speaker 1: Psalm David writes about what happens when you're afraid. He
- 1:09Speaker 1: actually wrote this Psalm in a time when he had
- 1:13Speaker 1: been seized and arrested by the Philistines, enemies of Israel.
- 1:19Speaker 1: This is what he says.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me.
- 1:28Speaker 1: All day long an attacker oppresses me. I wonder if
- 1:32Speaker 1: you're listening today and you identify with David that there's
- 1:36Speaker 1: somebody or some people that just seem to be out
- 1:40Speaker 1: to get you.
- 1:42Speaker 1: He keeps on going. My enemies trample on me all
- 1:46Speaker 1: day long, for many attack me proudly.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Listen to this
- 1:52Speaker 1: When I am afraid
- 1:55Speaker 1: I put my trust in you.
- 1:59Speaker 1: When I am afraid I put my trust in you.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Do you see the significance of that? Not when I
- 2:08Speaker 1: am afraid I freak out.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Not when I'm afraid I shut down.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Not when I'm afraid I push other people away, not
- 2:18Speaker 1: when I'm afraid I push God away.
- 2:21Speaker 1: But when I'm afraid, not, I hope things will work out.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But when I am afraid, I put my trust in You, God.
- 2:33Speaker 1: He goes on to say,
- 2:35Speaker 1: In God whose word I praise.
- 2:39Speaker 1: In God I trust I shall not be afraid. What
- 2:45Speaker 1: can flesh do to me?
- 2:49Speaker 1: All day long
- 2:51Speaker 1: These people injure my cause. All their thoughts are against
- 2:56Speaker 1: me for evil. Do you feel like that today?
- 3:01Speaker 1: They stir up strife. They lurk. They watch my steps
- 3:06Speaker 1: as they have waited for my life.
- 3:09Speaker 1: For their crime will they escape.
- 3:12Speaker 1: In wrath cast down these people, O God.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And then listen to his heart's cry to God.
- 3:22Speaker 1: You have kept count of my tossings. Do you wake
- 3:26Speaker 1: up at night because of what's going on, just tossing
- 3:28Speaker 1: and turning, stressed, unable to get back to sleep?
- 3:33Speaker 1: You have kept count of my tossings.
- 3:37Speaker 1: You've put my tears in your bottle.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Are they not in your book? That is, God is
- 3:47Speaker 1: marking the pain in your life. He notices it.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Then my enemies will turn back in the day when
- 3:57Speaker 1: I call. This I know that God is for me.
- 4:06Speaker 1: This I know there's an unshakable confidence in King David's
- 4:11Speaker 1: heart in spite of the fact that he's been arrested,
- 4:15Speaker 1: in spite of the fact that everyone around him is
- 4:18Speaker 1: out to get him. This I know.
- 4:21Speaker 1: That God is for me. His trust in God is
- 4:25Speaker 1: not dependent on how good his circumstances are. But even
- 4:29Speaker 1: in this terrible time, he knows that he knows that
- 4:33Speaker 1: he knows God is on his side. God is for him.
- 4:38Speaker 1: He goes on to say, in God, whose word I praise,
- 4:43Speaker 1: in the Lord, whose word I praise, in God I trust,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?
- 4:53Speaker 1: I must perform my vows to You, O God. I
- 4:57Speaker 1: will render thank offerings to you, for You have delivered
- 5:01Speaker 1: my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that
- 5:05Speaker 1: I may walk before God in the light of life.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I'm John North.
