- 0:00Speaker 1: We didn't write this spill for the Democratic Party or
- 0:02Speaker 1: the elites or the media.
- 0:04Speaker 2: This bill is for hard working Americans. They deserve.
- 0:12Speaker 3: All right.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Well, that Speaker Mike Johnson on Capitol Hill today, as
- 0:16Speaker 2: we're still waiting for the signing of the bill, and
- 0:19Speaker 2: the big Beautiful Bill, the debate over it is like
- 0:22Speaker 2: two and forty nine years ago when they debated over
- 0:25Speaker 2: the Declaration of Independence. Some are saying, why are you
- 0:27Speaker 2: comparing the situations, Well, there is a feeling that debate
- 0:33Speaker 2: that got our country started is the same kind of
- 0:37Speaker 2: debate as that's going on now with the Big Beautiful Bill.
- 0:40Speaker 2: It's will this make America better? Is this good for
- 0:44Speaker 2: the country. There was a debate into seventeen seventy six
- 0:48Speaker 2: whether spilling away from Britain was good of the country.
- 0:51Speaker 2: There is a debate now whether this big beautiful bill
- 0:54Speaker 2: is good for the country. I could see both sides
- 0:57Speaker 2: of it, but I want to take a break from
- 0:59Speaker 2: that because keep an eye on that for the one
- 1:01Speaker 2: like up on news. However, last night sports news and
- 1:06Speaker 2: really history was made last night when Clayton Kershaw got
- 1:12Speaker 2: his three thousand strikeout. I want you to also listen
- 1:15Speaker 2: to how loud. It was after his strikeout for three thousand,
- 1:19Speaker 2: as called by Joe Davis.
- 1:22Speaker 1: The ravine rises ready to erupt.
- 1:29Speaker 2: So I don't think Dodger Stadium was even that loud
- 1:55Speaker 2: for Freddie Freeman's game winning walk off home run in
- 1:59Speaker 2: Game one of the World Series last year. I don't
- 2:01Speaker 2: think so. And immediately after that, the Dodgers posted this
- 2:06Speaker 2: from his wife Ellen and their kids their Kershaw kids.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Clayton, Congratulations three thousand strikeouts. That's incredible. I actually I
- 2:18Speaker 4: remember your very first strikeout and we were freaking out,
- 2:23Speaker 4: screaming in our same section, like always cheering you on.
- 2:27Speaker 4: And the craziest thing about all these strikeouts is they've
- 2:30Speaker 4: always meant something so much bigger than just a strikeout.
- 2:34Speaker 4: With Kershaw's Challenge, you have donated money for every strikeout
- 2:37Speaker 4: you've ever done, and so you combine all of that
- 2:39Speaker 4: with three thousand strikeouts, the difference and impact that has
- 2:43Speaker 4: been made with every strikeout is just incredible. So we
- 2:46Speaker 4: are so proud of you. We have been cheering our
- 2:50Speaker 4: hearts out for you for so long, and we're so
- 2:52Speaker 4: thankful that we got to be here to witness this moment.
- 2:54Speaker 5: Dad.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I'm so proud of you.
- 2:55Speaker 2: You've been throwing strikeouts since before I was born, and
- 2:58Speaker 2: I'm so happy you've got to three thousand strikeouts.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Congratulations. We love you so much. God, you're the best judge,
- 3:05Speaker 3: You're the best. You can say it really hard, and
- 3:07Speaker 3: you have a really nasty curve ball and I've never
- 3:10Speaker 3: seen anything like it. I'm really proud of you.
- 3:22Speaker 2: See, this strikeout is more than just a three thousand strikeout.
- 3:25Speaker 2: It's more than just a baseball moment, in a history moment,
- 3:28Speaker 2: in a sports moment. It's a life moment. And of
- 3:32Speaker 2: course I think about Vin Scully, who called many of
- 3:35Speaker 2: those kershaw cays over the years. Now, we recorded with
- 3:40Speaker 2: Lou Turminello yesterday, so we did not get a jenison
- 3:44Speaker 2: to recap this part, but listen to this week's Tourmentello's
- 3:47Speaker 2: take as we do hour America, the Decoration of Independence,
- 3:51Speaker 2: and we do talk about the Yankees and Mets struggles
- 3:54Speaker 2: heading into the Subway series. So Lou, welcome back to
- 3:57Speaker 2: one leg up with Alex Garrett. I couldn't think of
- 4:01Speaker 2: another more patriotic person to bring on. Then Lou Terminello
- 4:04Speaker 2: and Terminello's take Independence Day Edition patriotic baseball is on
- 4:11Speaker 2: the way. Subway Series, Lou turminidla, let's start there. As
- 4:16Speaker 2: of last check, right now, the Yanks are getting beat
- 4:19Speaker 2: up seven to nothing across the border against against Toronto.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Is it gonna be an electric atmosphere this weekend in
- 4:28Speaker 2: the Subway Series? I love New York, New York on
- 4:32Speaker 2: July the fourth, But we need some electricity to that,
- 4:35Speaker 2: don't we.
- 4:37Speaker 6: We do, And unfortunately, Alison, thank you for having me.
- 4:39Speaker 6: As always, I don't know if we're gonna have electricity
- 4:42Speaker 6: this weekend. Obviously are two struggling teams, the Mets struggling
- 4:46Speaker 6: more than the Yankees.
- 4:49Speaker 2: But we need the fireworks behind me, you know.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Absolutely, Unfortunately.
- 4:57Speaker 6: I mean obviously, when you Mets versus Yankees, whether they're
- 5:01Speaker 6: playing a Subway Series baseball game or if they were
- 5:06Speaker 6: if they were playing uh.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Stup ball in Brooklyn, that competition is going to be fierce.
- 5:14Speaker 1: But it's not. It won't be the same right now.
- 5:17Speaker 1: These teams have to straighten themselves out.
- 5:21Speaker 6: I said, the Mets are in the little dollar shaped
- 5:24Speaker 6: than the Yankees, and uh, I think it's gonna be
- 5:29Speaker 6: very difficult, difficult for the Mets for the next couple
- 5:33Speaker 6: of weeks until they get their starters back.
- 5:34Speaker 1: And the thing is, the Mets aren't hitting, Alex, They're.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Not hitting no, and I mean that only.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Alex.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Can we just agree the All Star break can't come
- 5:46Speaker 2: soon enough for both these teams? Forget about the deadline
- 5:49Speaker 2: at the moment, the also right needs to be here.
- 5:52Speaker 1: No, it's it's so true, it's so true.
- 5:55Speaker 6: Uh. The Yankees got to tighten up a bit. I mean,
- 5:59Speaker 6: obviously that defense has been lax. Their bullpen has has
- 6:03Speaker 6: is probably like the Mets bullpen and probably overworked.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And you can't overwork these bullpens. They're good.
- 6:11Speaker 6: They're gonna make some kind of updates and trade at
- 6:14Speaker 6: the deadline, as a lot of teams are, so uh,
- 6:17Speaker 6: they gotta I just hope they don't over they panic
- 6:22Speaker 6: and get somebody that it's not gonna help them. And uh,
- 6:27Speaker 6: and they're gonna trade a prospect that might buy him
- 6:31Speaker 6: in the butt like with the Mets did. And this
- 6:33Speaker 6: is not on Stearn's this was the previous uh, the
- 6:38Speaker 6: you know, this was a brody van wagon. And when
- 6:39Speaker 6: he traded Pete Crow Armstrong to the Cubs for how
- 6:44Speaker 6: you bought Baiez, and even though Bias played very well
- 6:47Speaker 6: for the Mets as a rental, the Mets didn't sign them.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So and actually.
- 6:51Speaker 6: Bias is one of reasons why the Tigers now after
- 6:55Speaker 6: a couple of off years, he's having a good year
- 6:57Speaker 6: and why the Tigers are flying high and heage Central
- 7:01Speaker 6: a division that they already have clinched.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Nobody's catching them.
- 7:05Speaker 2: All right, Well, you mentioned Pca. He is one of
- 7:08Speaker 2: my All Star selections and I don't usually do ballots,
- 7:11Speaker 2: but this year, because I met cal Rally, I want
- 7:13Speaker 2: to get the picture and the vote in together. Also,
- 7:16Speaker 2: I have a missical labor tore so I voted him
- 7:18Speaker 2: in at second for the for the Tigers. Sorry Yankee fans.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Gold Schmid did not make my ballot. I did think
- 7:26Speaker 2: Grero was on a stronger first half, but of course
- 7:29Speaker 2: I went with my guy, Ben Rice loved that kid.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I think he's got a lot of potential and he's
- 7:34Speaker 2: had a great first half. I think he's worthy of
- 7:36Speaker 2: an All Star nod. And then I put in a
- 7:39Speaker 2: vote for Lindora and he's now National League starting shortstop,
- 7:43Speaker 2: so maybe I helped you with that.
- 7:45Speaker 6: Ironically, Alex, he's the starting shortstop in the National League,
- 7:48Speaker 6: and he had a better year last year at the break,
- 7:51Speaker 6: but that's all.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I voted Alonso win. So I'm sure he'll get he'll
- 7:55Speaker 2: get in. But PCA and then Kyle Tucker. Now, Tucker,
- 8:00Speaker 2: his first year in Chicago has been remarkable. I mean,
- 8:03Speaker 2: he comes back to Houston and hits that home run.
- 8:06Speaker 2: You can't script that any better, right, But overall, overall
- 8:10Speaker 2: him in PCA, and you can only vote three or
- 8:14Speaker 2: actually vote two. He and PCA were my picks. Sorry,
- 8:18Speaker 2: won Soto, you just didn't make the cut this first
- 8:21Speaker 2: half for me, Not because you left the Yankees.
- 8:23Speaker 1: But just gonna do That's the reason you did it.
- 8:27Speaker 2: But I just don't think he's had a qualified first
- 8:29Speaker 2: half to be an All Star. I'm sorry.
- 8:31Speaker 6: He does lead to National League and on base percentage,
- 8:34Speaker 6: he hasn't had the impactful first half that we thought.
- 8:37Speaker 6: But if he's the World Series MVP come late October,
- 8:41Speaker 6: we got that, don't.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I don't care about exhibition gaming. The middle of.
- 8:46Speaker 2: July World Series, I'll tell you they have to be
- 8:49Speaker 2: out of this world, both teams right now because the
- 8:52Speaker 2: the these struggles are are getting worse. I mean, the Yanks.
- 8:56Speaker 2: As I mentioned seven nothing last checked in Toronto. What
- 9:00Speaker 2: is going on?
- 9:01Speaker 6: And Alex you make you make a good point. These
- 9:03Speaker 6: are struggles. These it's now passed the slum stage that
- 9:09Speaker 6: we have that we have to worry about, worry about.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Uh.
- 9:12Speaker 6: Like I said, the Mets are in a little bit,
- 9:14Speaker 6: a little bit worse shape than the Yankees right now.
- 9:16Speaker 1: But uh, you know.
- 9:20Speaker 2: It's here are the starters, by the way, cal Rally
- 9:24Speaker 2: O'Hearn of the Orioles at d h Rally at catcher,
- 9:28Speaker 2: Glaber at second, uh Jay ram at third. I thought
- 9:32Speaker 2: Jose Ramirez to deserve that vote. Uh, Jacob Wilson of
- 9:37Speaker 2: the A's at short, Aaron of course in the outfield
- 9:41Speaker 2: Green look, Detroit's got a few of these guys because
- 9:43Speaker 2: they've had a great first half, uh Riley Green and
- 9:46Speaker 2: the hobby Bays you just mentioned, and then on the
- 9:49Speaker 2: and then Gero Junior first, So I kind of voted
- 9:51Speaker 2: a few of those in and they became starters. Will
- 9:54Speaker 2: Smith Otani as you know, and Figured Freeman at first,
- 9:59Speaker 2: Smith Ketcher d catel Marte who's at quite quite a
- 10:03Speaker 2: season so far, second base, Machado at third, Lindor Pca,
- 10:10Speaker 2: Akunya Junior and Tucker are the other guys. So there
- 10:15Speaker 2: you go.
- 10:16Speaker 1: A couple of things on some of the guys you mentioned.
- 10:18Speaker 6: Kyle Tucker is one of the most underrated players in baseball,
- 10:22Speaker 6: along with his former teammate Jordan Alvarez, who has missed
- 10:25Speaker 6: two months of the season so far, and he had
- 10:29Speaker 6: a setback with his broken hand. I got to give
- 10:32Speaker 6: the Astros a lot of credit. They're fifteen sixteen games
- 10:37Speaker 6: all five hundred. It looks like they're going to win
- 10:40Speaker 6: that division again. I'm surprised that they're able to do this.
- 10:45Speaker 6: I mean, just think they've lost over the last four
- 10:48Speaker 6: or five years. They've lost George Springer, they lost Carlos Carea,
- 10:54Speaker 6: they've lost Kyle Tucker, they've lost Bregman, and I didn't.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Think they would be this good this year.
- 11:03Speaker 6: So I don't think their World Series good, but they're good.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Well, I think I think well, I think the Acids
- 11:12Speaker 2: have a low waist to go. I don't think they're
- 11:14Speaker 2: they're won't that.
- 11:14Speaker 6: World Series good? But I'm surprised. I think they're like
- 11:17Speaker 6: forty nine and thirty three.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Well, they're they're up there, and look that West is
- 11:23Speaker 2: still weird because the Angels are floating in there as
- 11:25Speaker 2: a wildcard.
- 11:26Speaker 6: Possibly the fact that they're at five hundred is actually
- 11:30Speaker 6: a thumbs up for them.
- 11:32Speaker 1: It's a positive for them.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Absolutely. So well, we'll ib to see. But as I said,
- 11:36Speaker 2: the break can't come enough. And then here's the guy
- 11:39Speaker 2: I'm looking at. You don't think he's gonna get traded
- 11:41Speaker 2: because the Diamondbacks are in this. But if they are sellers,
- 11:44Speaker 2: which I don't think they're going to be, Tarrez is
- 11:47Speaker 2: a good fit for the Yankees. I mean, it could
- 11:49Speaker 2: go that way.
- 11:51Speaker 6: And again I'm not saying that that dime Packs may
- 11:53Speaker 6: not trade. I mean, it all depends on how the
- 11:55Speaker 6: Diamondbacks play the next three weeks leading you know, leading
- 11:59Speaker 6: up until that last week in July.
- 12:02Speaker 1: You know.
- 12:03Speaker 6: So so we'll we'll, we'll see what happens there. I
- 12:06Speaker 6: don't think they're gonna get rid of them if they're
- 12:07Speaker 6: in it.
- 12:08Speaker 2: No, they're and they've already admitted to Joel Sherman. I
- 12:11Speaker 2: heard that they might be buyers actually at the dead line.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Yeah, well that's the thing now, Alex. When you have
- 12:17Speaker 6: additional playoff teams. In a couple of years ago, there
- 12:21Speaker 6: are more teams that would be sellers now everybody. You know,
- 12:24Speaker 6: look at Detroit last year.
- 12:26Speaker 1: They did sell They sell Jack Flaherty to the Dodgers
- 12:29Speaker 1: last year, and they they thought they were out of it.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Then they got hot, real hot, and they made the
- 12:37Speaker 1: playoffs and they got to the second round.
- 12:42Speaker 2: You know, I don't know for the Yanks though, ending
- 12:45Speaker 2: and I know it was a struggle, but to after
- 12:47Speaker 2: three or four months be in first place to start
- 12:49Speaker 2: July felt like a big hurdle that they had overcome.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Now it's sort.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Of just they'll be okay.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I have no words, and it's it's not good. And
- 12:59Speaker 2: I of Aaron, he's producing, he's he's got the but
- 13:03Speaker 2: it can't all fall on him, really absolutely, and it
- 13:08Speaker 2: just feels like the rest of this.
- 13:11Speaker 1: It's weird.
- 13:11Speaker 2: They finally have the pitching. You know, the Anks of
- 13:13Speaker 2: an had all the pitching in the world. Now they
- 13:14Speaker 2: have the pitching and the Higgs. So one thing works
- 13:17Speaker 2: the other thing doesn't. But well, we'll have to see
- 13:19Speaker 2: how this goes. But as I told you all, air,
- 13:21Speaker 2: I was worried about this lineup to begin with. I
- 13:23Speaker 2: think we all were you.
- 13:25Speaker 7: Were you you were more worried about it than I
- 13:29Speaker 7: was the Yankee lineup because I thought I thought they
- 13:32Speaker 7: would be they would be pretty good, pretty good, and
- 13:35Speaker 7: they probably another stick obviously going to uh to the
- 13:39Speaker 7: other team in town.
- 13:40Speaker 1: That bottom of the lineup is not good. And the
- 13:43Speaker 1: young guys.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Mark Vientos, who had a terrific first full year in
- 13:48Speaker 6: the major leagues last year is I don't know if
- 13:50Speaker 6: it's a sophomore drinks whatever you want to call it,
- 13:54Speaker 6: or he was he just had a.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Fluky or first year. Is in anything like he did
- 14:00Speaker 1: last year.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Fernando Alvarez two years ago had to hit twenty five
- 14:03Speaker 6: home runs in in his rookie year. Is all messed
- 14:08Speaker 6: up mechanically. They sent They did the right thing by
- 14:10Speaker 6: sending him down to Syracuse. I think, uh, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 6: Brett Baty is hit and miss. He's inconsistent. Mauricio Ryan,
- 14:20Speaker 6: Mauricio Ryan. Theyshed him up because they had other injuries.
- 14:24Speaker 6: My opinion, he's a switch hitter. I think he has
- 14:28Speaker 6: the most potential.
- 14:30Speaker 2: And the one big guy that we both haven't acknowledged yet,
- 14:33Speaker 2: but Biento's He's got to get right. I love when
- 14:35Speaker 2: Bianto's was hot. The guy can hit.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Absolutely, he has to. He has to. Uh, he has to.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Some of these guys got to calm down to and
- 14:44Speaker 1: not overthink. So only j still three months to go.
- 14:50Speaker 2: And they're only two games out at first, so it's
- 14:51Speaker 2: not been as awful in that regard. However, three and
- 14:55Speaker 2: seven do you do you buy into the last tens?
- 14:58Speaker 2: I do bind into the last tense. I don't care
- 15:00Speaker 2: at what point of the season. I think those last
- 15:02Speaker 2: ten markers are very important.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I think it is a good marker, and it does
- 15:12Speaker 1: give you.
- 15:12Speaker 6: It gives you a short thumbnail sketch of what's going on.
- 15:17Speaker 6: Unfortunately for the Mets at the last seventeen, they're three
- 15:21Speaker 6: and fourteen.
- 15:22Speaker 2: But Mendoza see this, and I met Boone. I think
- 15:26Speaker 2: he's a great person and I still think he can
- 15:28Speaker 2: lead this team. But the difference is, and I've seen
- 15:32Speaker 2: this after the awful to Tell Marte incident in Chicago,
- 15:37Speaker 2: but Tory Lavello and Boonie strike me as two guys
- 15:41Speaker 2: who are players managers. They're not really old school, they're
- 15:45Speaker 2: more of the players managers. And is that working in
- 15:47Speaker 2: today's league. I don't know if it is. Because Mendoza
- 15:51Speaker 2: is calls them out when they need to be called out.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I don't see that with Aaron Boone, do you.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I also think Mendoza and I no matter.
- 16:00Speaker 6: Last year when I Metro twelve games in the five
- 16:02Speaker 6: hundred on that first week in June, it looked like
- 16:05Speaker 6: they were done, and he was. He was calm, just
- 16:08Speaker 6: like he was calm when they were playing in the
- 16:10Speaker 6: Nationalague Championship Series. Four months later, they're playing terribly now,
- 16:16Speaker 6: but he's he's still calm when he talks postgame. You
- 16:19Speaker 6: could see that he's frustrated, but he's calm. And many times,
- 16:23Speaker 6: whether whatever sport it is, the team picks up the
- 16:27Speaker 6: personality of their coach or their manager, and that's all
- 16:32Speaker 6: we that's all as met fans we could hope for.
- 16:35Speaker 6: And hopefully they just start hitting soon. I mean, Lindora
- 16:38Speaker 6: is batting one ninety eight since June first.
- 16:42Speaker 1: That's how could you figure that?
- 16:45Speaker 2: That's that's just unbelievable. But again, it's a long season,
- 16:51Speaker 2: but they've got to do something. And remember last year
- 16:54Speaker 2: I was banking on that closed door meeting. They did
- 16:56Speaker 2: have one and still doesn't stake.
- 16:58Speaker 6: So I don't know, Yeah, you're hitting one when you
- 17:01Speaker 6: have your best player hitting one ninety eight, not your
- 17:03Speaker 6: best player, but one of your key guys hitting one
- 17:05Speaker 6: ninety eight since June first, and the bullpen, which was
- 17:10Speaker 6: great since June first, has been terrible with the exception.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Of Diaz Again.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Now you want to talk about the Rays because I
- 17:20Speaker 2: think that's one of your more impressive teams of the half,
- 17:22Speaker 2: and the Brewers because the Rays have sort of resurrected
- 17:25Speaker 2: themselves they had and i'd have the Blue Jays by
- 17:29Speaker 2: the way, because they were down there too for a while.
- 17:31Speaker 2: But talk about those three teams raised, Blade Jays and Brewers.
- 17:36Speaker 2: What a comeback story so far.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Well, as we watched that first weekend here in New York,
- 17:42Speaker 6: as we watched the Brewers throw batting practice to the Yankees,
- 17:47Speaker 6: and remember the controversy about the tribute the torpedo bats.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Yeah, where'd that go?
- 17:52Speaker 1: Yeah? Where did that go? Alex? You know, the Brewers
- 17:57Speaker 1: was shell shocked in New York.
- 17:59Speaker 6: Then the next day went to Kansas City and they
- 18:01Speaker 6: lost the eleven nothing and now they are what two
- 18:05Speaker 6: games behind are very very talented Chicago Cub team UH
- 18:09Speaker 6: in the National League Central. So they got Pat Murphy
- 18:13Speaker 6: was the manager of the year last year has done
- 18:15Speaker 6: a great job. They trade their closer, you know, Devin
- 18:19Speaker 6: Williams to the Yankees.
- 18:22Speaker 1: You got to give it to the Brewers. They field well.
- 18:26Speaker 8: They only hit a lot of home runs, but uh
- 18:29Speaker 8: you know, now they have this kid that they just
- 18:31Speaker 8: brought up, Misowski who has been lights out, and the
- 18:36Speaker 8: Brewers are gonna be tough.
- 18:37Speaker 1: They always are.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Each story. He got his personalized jersey mids. I don't
- 18:40Speaker 2: know if you saw that anywhere. I did not see that,
- 18:43Speaker 2: you know, and then got it.
- 18:45Speaker 6: Now the Jays, I don't know if they're just hot
- 18:51Speaker 6: or this is the real thing.
- 18:52Speaker 1: You know, We've been fooled by the Jays before when
- 18:55Speaker 1: we think that that they're the real, the real thing.
- 19:00Speaker 1: They have a good lineup, and uh so we we're
- 19:03Speaker 1: gonna have their bash in the baseball right now.
- 19:06Speaker 2: And by the way, not not that partly because I
- 19:09Speaker 2: met cow and I think he's just a clutch guy.
- 19:11Speaker 2: But Alejandro Kirk's been a very That was a tough
- 19:14Speaker 2: choice because Kirk's been great for the Blue Jays as well.
- 19:18Speaker 6: He he doesn't look like he should be great physically,
- 19:22Speaker 6: but he is outstanding.
- 19:23Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it. He could really hit that ball. Uh.
- 19:26Speaker 6: And going to the to the Tampa Bay Rays, I
- 19:30Speaker 6: think Kevin Cash is the best manager.
- 19:32Speaker 1: In baseball with what he's got to work with, from
- 19:34Speaker 1: first pitch to last pitch, he manages the game, I
- 19:38Speaker 1: think better than anybody with with with what he's got.
- 19:41Speaker 6: They've slumped a little bit of the last week, but
- 19:45Speaker 6: their their attention to details great. Uh Are they World
- 19:51Speaker 6: Series worthy?
- 19:52Speaker 1: I don't know. I would say no, but there you
- 19:57Speaker 1: got to tip your hat to them.
- 19:59Speaker 6: And by the Steinbrenner Field is much much better than
- 20:03Speaker 6: the stadium where the A's are playing. It's Steinbrenderfield is small,
- 20:08Speaker 6: but it's got it's like a major league stadium. There
- 20:12Speaker 6: was the stadium in Sacramento barely passable. That's just my observation.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And yet the A's took two out of three there,
- 20:20Speaker 2: So to your point, they were in a major league park,
- 20:22Speaker 2: they'd actually be better at home. Like that's it interesting.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I still think Tampa, this showcase of outdoor baseball is
- 20:30Speaker 2: why they need I don't care how hot it is,
- 20:33Speaker 2: Tampa needs to play outdoors. I mean, there's just no
- 20:35Speaker 2: question about it.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Well, at least have a place with a retractable roof
- 20:40Speaker 1: that too, you know, so if if the weather, if
- 20:43Speaker 1: you get that heavy those Florida summer rain storms, you
- 20:46Speaker 1: can just you can just close the roof.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Like they haven't this year's old. When I realized why
- 20:50Speaker 2: my Milwaukee needed a retractable roof, I guess it rains
- 20:54Speaker 2: a lot up there. I didn't know that.
- 20:55Speaker 1: It's cold, you know, and it's cold, you know. So uh,
- 20:59Speaker 1: I'm all for retractable roofs. I really am. I really
- 21:03Speaker 1: think o.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Well, new stadiums should have them in Minnesota. That one
- 21:06Speaker 2: is very interesting because they play outdoors even if it's
- 21:09Speaker 2: freezing cold.
- 21:10Speaker 6: They went from an indoors stadium to an outdoor stadium.
- 21:13Speaker 6: That made no sense to me.
- 21:14Speaker 2: But and of course I think during the Jim Cotter
- 21:17Speaker 2: they played outdoors.
- 21:18Speaker 6: Yes, they did when I was growing up, and they
- 21:20Speaker 6: had those great hitting teams and Jim Cott and Jim
- 21:23Speaker 6: Mudcat Grant and Camilo Pasqual, Harmon Kilbrew.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Robbie at.
- 21:30Speaker 6: They had great teams. They had great teams, and they
- 21:33Speaker 6: played a nineteen sixty five World Series, but they were
- 21:35Speaker 6: always good. They played outdoors in Metropolitan Stadium.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that there's some old footage about that. I'd
- 21:42Speaker 2: recommend the younger generation to take a look just to
- 21:44Speaker 2: see about them.
- 21:45Speaker 1: No doubt about it. History, whether it's sports, American history,
- 21:52Speaker 1: entertainment history, it's.
- 21:54Speaker 2: One way breaking news. USA, you would sucker is leading
- 21:58Speaker 2: in their semi final. Look are they rigging this so
- 22:01Speaker 2: that Team USA Soccer could play at MetLife? Is there
- 22:04Speaker 2: some rigging going on here? I mean what it's going well.
- 22:07Speaker 6: There has been rigging in soccer in the past, and
- 22:09Speaker 6: the people have had to pay.
- 22:11Speaker 1: The riggers have had to pay for fixing games.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I remember, I remember when this team under a Klinger
- 22:18Speaker 2: haf or whatever. Right, Yes, it was awful. Now there
- 22:22Speaker 2: are all of a sudden renaissance with Team USA Soccer.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Well that's good.
- 22:25Speaker 6: We want we want we we want to see uh
- 22:28Speaker 6: our national team do well and.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Then both won't for the World Cup if I'm honest.
- 22:32Speaker 2: So we'll have to see what happens there. But Lou,
- 22:35Speaker 2: I know what's on your mind, because yesterday was the
- 22:37Speaker 2: first day of free agency, and boy oh boy, Ranger
- 22:41Speaker 2: fans were gonna go after Drury if you then resigned
- 22:43Speaker 2: Will Cooley. He did get that done, he did, and
- 22:47Speaker 2: fans were actually happy Keandres traded, So there's that movement too.
- 22:51Speaker 2: But what stuck out to you? I mean, they kind
- 22:53Speaker 2: of got this defenseman for seven years. I've never really
- 22:56Speaker 2: seen him play up until his signings. So what what what?
- 23:00Speaker 2: What's going on? The Rangers made some good moves yesterday.
- 23:02Speaker 6: I would say the Rangers make good moves. Are they
- 23:05Speaker 6: trade the human turnover? Keandreke Andre Miller. Now he got Alex.
- 23:11Speaker 1: He got sixty million dollars from the Carolina Hurricanes for
- 23:14Speaker 1: eight years, which is shocking to me.
- 23:20Speaker 6: And they, you know, getting Coolly was obviously that was
- 23:25Speaker 6: a key thing.
- 23:26Speaker 1: The defenseman that they signed from the Los.
- 23:29Speaker 6: Angeles Kings, Vladislav got what let's see, what is his
- 23:35Speaker 6: last name. I mean, I've seen him play many times.
- 23:39Speaker 1: He's a body checker. He's aprokov yeah, gaprakofv. He's Alex
- 23:45Speaker 1: a positive, a positive.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Not how to hit her. Even in that playoff run
- 23:53Speaker 2: of twenty four, we were all looking for that hit.
- 23:56Speaker 2: KeAndre did not do that. Okay, he did not hit
- 24:00Speaker 2: and uh Rempy hits too much. The guy gets suspended
- 24:04Speaker 2: at the time, so they needed right and.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Uh you know, and I and.
- 24:10Speaker 6: Team this year apparently he's trying that he's trying to
- 24:14Speaker 6: uh uh.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Paul short still and try to become more so you know, uh,
- 24:33Speaker 1: the rent will be The Rangers are making some changes.
- 24:37Speaker 2: You mentioned that the Montreal defense is gonna in Montreal
- 24:39Speaker 2: has made a lot of improvements. But I want to
- 24:42Speaker 2: go to the Islanders because because when we last were together,
- 24:48Speaker 2: you compared mister Shaffer of Bobby Or and uh and
- 24:52Speaker 2: mister Shaffer was liffing it listening. I'm sorry it was
- 24:54Speaker 2: pretty uh flattered by that.
- 24:57Speaker 1: But let let let the let me.
- 25:00Speaker 6: I saw him make a couple of a rink to rink,
- 25:05Speaker 6: a red line, goal line to go line rushes that
- 25:08Speaker 6: remind me of Bobby Or.
- 25:09Speaker 1: There's only one Bobby Or there's only one uh about that,
- 25:15Speaker 1: but there's only one Bobby Or the greatest defenseman of
- 25:18Speaker 1: all time. And uh, you know, the Islanders made it
- 25:23Speaker 1: that Dobson trade is gonna be great for Montreal. It's
- 25:26Speaker 1: gonna and and if the if the two picks work
- 25:28Speaker 1: out for the Islanders, it's gonna be great for the analysts.
- 25:31Speaker 6: And according to every draft nick, every HL draft analyst,
- 25:36Speaker 6: the two guys that the Islanders picked, and I'm gonna
- 25:39Speaker 6: be honest with you, I haven't seen them play and
- 25:42Speaker 6: I saw shit. I really didn't see Shaeffer play like usually,
- 25:44Speaker 6: Like I've told you, I see these junior players play.
- 25:48Speaker 2: But uh, you know did see you know who did
- 25:51Speaker 2: see the scrimmage? Our buddy Ryan Pagano was out at
- 25:55Speaker 2: uh watching the scrimmage and he said it was a
- 25:57Speaker 2: sellout crowd. So people are amped. Islander nations amped right now?
- 26:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:02Speaker 6: No, I mean they picked Victor Ecklyn, who's a smallish forward,
- 26:08Speaker 6: but apparently he's very He's he goes into the dirty
- 26:12Speaker 6: areas and he's like a power forward. So the Islanders
- 26:18Speaker 6: need that. They don't have enough bodies in front of
- 26:20Speaker 6: the net. Again, he's eighteen and the defenseman that they
- 26:23Speaker 6: drafted with the seventh number seventeen. I actually saw it
- 26:27Speaker 6: his CAN interview and he's very impressive. Kishan Atkinson, he
- 26:31Speaker 6: played for the Battery, called six foot six foot.
- 26:34Speaker 1: One, two hundred pounds. He was voted the outstanding body
- 26:37Speaker 1: checker in the Eastern Conference of the Ontario Hockey League.
- 26:41Speaker 1: The Islanders need that.
- 26:42Speaker 6: Obviously, signing Alexander Romanov, who's an outstanding body checker that
- 26:50Speaker 6: that's gonna help him again. I don't know how quickly
- 26:52Speaker 6: these guys are going to make the NHL. Matthew Schaeffer.
- 26:56Speaker 6: I saw him interviewed yesterday. I don't know if it
- 26:59Speaker 6: was before in the scrimmage.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I think he thinks he has a chance to be
- 27:02Speaker 1: a National Hockey League next year. But Alex, you see him.
- 27:07Speaker 6: I saw him at the NHL Combine on NHL Network
- 27:10Speaker 6: in his shorts and in his T shirt. He looks
- 27:13Speaker 6: like a kid going against NHL men at the age
- 27:18Speaker 6: of seventeen.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 27:22Speaker 2: That's why I got to develop these kids.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. Now he can't.
- 27:28Speaker 6: He can't play in the American Hockey League next year
- 27:31Speaker 6: because he's under twenty, so he would have to probably
- 27:34Speaker 6: he would have to go back to the Eerie others. Now,
- 27:38Speaker 6: if he plays ten games with the Islanders next.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Year, they got to keep him for the whole season,
- 27:44Speaker 1: So we'll see.
- 27:46Speaker 6: But the kid's very impressive. He's so mature. I could
- 27:49Speaker 6: see him as a future captain of the Islanders.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Well, we'll see, and I'm sure he wants to have
- 27:54Speaker 2: why as head coach. I mean, how cool would that
- 27:56Speaker 2: be for that kid?
- 27:57Speaker 6: Well, it's going to be interesting to see without Lou Lamarello,
- 28:01Speaker 6: there if Patrick Waugh who likes to play a more
- 28:04Speaker 6: fast paced game, unlike Lou, who likes to play more
- 28:08Speaker 6: of that close checking defensive style. I'm not saying that
- 28:12Speaker 6: the Islanders should be giving up fifty shots a game.
- 28:15Speaker 6: I'm not saying that.
- 28:17Speaker 1: But we're going to see how, you know, how that
- 28:23Speaker 1: all works out. And I mean, I mean the only
- 28:26Speaker 1: thing that I questioned what the Islanders did yesterday. They
- 28:29Speaker 1: signed Jonathan Drew into a two year deal four million dollars.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Jonathan Drew in when he came into the league. He
- 28:38Speaker 1: was number three overall pick in two thousand and thirteen
- 28:41Speaker 1: with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was supposed to be
- 28:44Speaker 1: a big time scorer. Well he's okay, but he never
- 28:48Speaker 1: made it big time. But if he can help me
- 28:51Speaker 1: out on a power play, which we know is been
- 28:55Speaker 1: a problem for them, I guess he'll help.
- 28:57Speaker 6: When I saw that, when I saw that signing yesterday
- 29:00Speaker 6: come across the board, I was surprised.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I'll tell you that. But you know, I don't know.
- 29:06Speaker 6: I don't think the awends are I don't know if
- 29:08Speaker 6: the Islands are a playoff team or not. Because last year
- 29:11Speaker 6: had Detroit who didn't make the playoffs, getting John Gibson.
- 29:14Speaker 6: That solves their goaltending problem. They got a lot of talent.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Uh so uh, you know.
- 29:21Speaker 1: They're they're going to be a problem.
- 29:23Speaker 6: So I think I think that for the for the
- 29:25Speaker 6: Islanders and the Rangers, they're no, they're no short things
- 29:29Speaker 6: for the playoffs. Now that the team that should be
- 29:31Speaker 6: the sure thing for the playoffs and they got to
- 29:33Speaker 6: play better and they gotta stay healthy are the Devils.
- 29:36Speaker 6: And they did a good thing yesterday by signing their
- 29:38Speaker 6: backup goalie Jake Allen for five years. They re signed
- 29:41Speaker 6: Cody Glass, they picked up a couple of other guys
- 29:45Speaker 6: uh for the bottom six, uh Connor Brown from Edmonton.
- 29:50Speaker 6: That's going to help them a lot. Uh So, but
- 29:53Speaker 6: next year that the Devils have to make that move.
- 29:56Speaker 6: Next year they have to.
- 29:58Speaker 1: It can't be u a good regular season and they
- 30:02Speaker 1: get knocked out in the first round. Barty Carolina Hurricanes
- 30:04Speaker 1: can't happen. They got to make their mark. So uh.
- 30:11Speaker 6: But and again the other thing, Alex, you know we're
- 30:16Speaker 6: a year away from Connor McDavid free agency or if
- 30:19Speaker 6: the Oil is going to extend him before training camp.
- 30:23Speaker 6: I think they are, but what bet they don't.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Right. Well, you know one more thing on this because
- 30:29Speaker 2: we talk about it a while ago. Oh my god,
- 30:32Speaker 2: Mitch Marner or Matt Marner canceling his charity event. What
- 30:36Speaker 2: does that mean? Well, now he is a Vegas Golden
- 30:39Speaker 2: Night and they are formidable. You look at that roster
- 30:43Speaker 2: icle and him. What a what a team that's going
- 30:47Speaker 2: to be.
- 30:47Speaker 6: Well, you talk about Mitch Marner as you know, one
- 30:50Speaker 6: of my favorite players. I would have done anything, as
- 30:53Speaker 6: I've told you in the past for him, for the
- 30:55Speaker 6: Islanders to get a guy like that, Alex he could
- 30:57Speaker 6: do everything. He's got a little bit of the Adam
- 31:01Speaker 6: Judge syndrome. Great and regular season and hasn't been able
- 31:04Speaker 6: to perform in the playoffs so far. Just like I'm
- 31:09Speaker 6: sure Aaron Judge will have a big playoff one year
- 31:12Speaker 6: before he retires, there's no question. But like Aaron Judge
- 31:16Speaker 6: could do any everything on the baseball field, Mitch Marner
- 31:18Speaker 6: can do everything on the hockey rink. He can kill penalties,
- 31:21Speaker 6: He's a great passer, He's got a high hockey IQ.
- 31:28Speaker 6: What a what a great pickup for the Golden Knights.
- 31:32Speaker 6: Now next year. At this time Jack Eichel will be
- 31:35Speaker 6: a free agent. So are they going to pony up
- 31:41Speaker 6: that kind of money for pony up the money for
- 31:46Speaker 6: Marner who got eight years and I guess he's getting
- 31:49Speaker 6: twelve million million dollars a year, which I.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Heard and I don't know if this is true. I
- 31:54Speaker 1: heard eight million dollars.
- 31:56Speaker 6: I mean twelve million dollars in Vegas because of is
- 32:00Speaker 6: a no tax state and New York and the US
- 32:03Speaker 6: dollar is stronger than the Ontario dollar, the Canadian dollar.
- 32:08Speaker 1: It's it would have to be the equivalent of sixteen
- 32:10Speaker 1: million dollars in Canada. Well accurate.
- 32:15Speaker 2: But by the way, I love when Liam McEwan all
- 32:18Speaker 2: these guys pressure Betman about the non state tax, because look,
- 32:22Speaker 2: these states have an advantage over New York. There is
- 32:25Speaker 2: no tell about one leg up. That's one leg up
- 32:28Speaker 2: for the Lightning and for Vegas, they could do whatever
- 32:31Speaker 2: like that.
- 32:33Speaker 1: All right, I'll agree with you halfway. For thirty years,
- 32:38Speaker 1: the Florida Panthers were pathetic and they still had the
- 32:43Speaker 1: no tax flaw in the state of Florida.
- 32:46Speaker 6: And talking about the two times Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers,
- 32:50Speaker 6: you gotta tip your hat to the general managibill Zo.
- 32:54Speaker 6: You got to tip your hat to Sam Bennetty signed
- 32:58Speaker 6: for eight years. Took a little less on me that
- 33:00Speaker 6: he could have got somewhere else. Aaron Eckland, the defense
- 33:03Speaker 6: right handed shooting defenseman, took probably left fifteen million dollars
- 33:08Speaker 6: on the table over the life of the contract, and
- 33:11Speaker 6: at the age of thirty seven, Brad Marschaan got six years.
- 33:17Speaker 1: So they kept all three guys.
- 33:19Speaker 2: All twelve four.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Wards who played in clinching Game six against Edmonton have
- 33:24Speaker 1: been resigned or they're.
- 33:27Speaker 6: Going to be on the roster next year. As as
- 33:30Speaker 6: Flora tries to win three Stanley Cups in a row.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Repeat, now, that hasn't been done in my memory since
- 33:35Speaker 2: at least the Detroit era, right, I feel like the
- 33:37Speaker 2: Red Wings said something.
- 33:38Speaker 6: Well, the last team to do it, I think was
- 33:40Speaker 6: when the Islanders won there four in a row. Because
- 33:43Speaker 6: Edmonton won the next two years in eighty four and
- 33:45Speaker 6: eighty five.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Lost in eighty six. They didn't even get to the
- 33:49Speaker 1: final round.
- 33:50Speaker 6: They lost to Calgary, who got to the Stanley Cup
- 33:53Speaker 6: final and lost to Montreal. Then Edmonton won the Cup
- 33:57Speaker 6: in eighty seven and eighty eight, did it to eighty
- 34:00Speaker 6: nine and then one it in ninety.
- 34:02Speaker 1: So they never won three in a row, but they
- 34:03Speaker 1: won five in seven years. So the island last in
- 34:08Speaker 1: a row.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I saw a very hot take. Well, the spray and
- 34:12Speaker 2: Grand Slam against the Yankees is the most patriotic moment
- 34:14Speaker 2: I've seen, really, Not Edmonton winning all those Stanley Cups
- 34:19Speaker 2: in the Canada not you know, I don't know the
- 34:23Speaker 2: Canadians doing what they did for twenty seven Cups or so. Well,
- 34:27Speaker 2: I mean that's not patriotic enough. A Grand Slam in
- 34:29Speaker 2: the middle of July, at the beginning of July. Get
- 34:32Speaker 2: out of here with.
- 34:33Speaker 6: That, Alex. It's people with short memories. Nobody knows the
- 34:38Speaker 6: history of the game. The other thing is, you know,
- 34:40Speaker 6: the nineteen to ninety Oilers won the Cup. Gretzky was gone,
- 34:44Speaker 6: so Messier won five, won five with the Oilers, and
- 34:48Speaker 6: Gretzky won four with the Oilers, and then Gretzky won
- 34:51Speaker 6: his sixth with with the Rangers.
- 34:55Speaker 2: But I'll putes that. You want to about a patriotic
- 34:57Speaker 2: baseball moment, how about the Baptista won that was the
- 35:00Speaker 2: best home run? Well, the Joe Carter home run two,
- 35:03Speaker 2: I guess you would say, but.
- 35:04Speaker 6: Yeah, well won of the World Series for them in
- 35:05Speaker 6: the bottom of the ninth inning Wolf Mitch Williams.
- 35:08Speaker 2: So in my lifetime the Bautista one though, was really
- 35:11Speaker 2: something to backflip. The backflip that was something else. And
- 35:15Speaker 2: now they're beating up the Yanks again. But that's not
- 35:17Speaker 2: the story for end of the day. I want to
- 35:19Speaker 2: get to the Hockey Hall of Fames speaking of Toronto,
- 35:21Speaker 2: because we had a chance to cover this last time
- 35:23Speaker 2: and I want to do it freshly. Here. Mcgilney Washington
- 35:27Speaker 2: play a lot growing up. Kudos to him a former
- 35:31Speaker 2: Islander and Senators the Dano Chara, kudos to him. What
- 35:35Speaker 2: do you think of.
- 35:36Speaker 5: The class Alexander mcgilney And I don't know what the
- 35:43Speaker 5: voters had not to get him in earlier.
- 35:47Speaker 1: He should have been in ten twelve years ago.
- 35:51Speaker 6: He was a fantastic player, scored seventy six goals in
- 35:53Speaker 6: one season, So I don't know what the voters were.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Thinking about Za.
- 36:00Speaker 6: Dana Chara, one of the most incredible defenseman history of
- 36:05Speaker 6: the league.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I saw one of his first games.
- 36:07Speaker 6: At National Coliseum when the Islanders drifted number one and
- 36:11Speaker 6: it was one of the worst mistakes that mill one
- 36:15Speaker 6: of many that Mike Milbery made as a general manager
- 36:19Speaker 6: of the Islanders when he traded him to the to
- 36:24Speaker 6: the Ilawa Senators.
- 36:27Speaker 1: So they're deserving.
- 36:28Speaker 6: The one veteran who keeps getting passed up is Butch Scoring.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Butch Scoring should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 36:36Speaker 2: He was.
- 36:37Speaker 6: He was the glue of that first Islander team that
- 36:40Speaker 6: they got Butch gooring at the trade deadline and he
- 36:43Speaker 6: catapulted the Islanders to that Cup. He won the Conso
- 36:48Speaker 6: Mike Trophy as as MVP of the Playoffs, and uh,
- 36:53Speaker 6: he should be in. So that's my two that's my
- 36:56Speaker 6: take on the Hall of Fame. So and then of course,
- 37:02Speaker 6: the other big thing today was the Nicks signing their
- 37:05Speaker 6: head coach.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Well, before we get to that, I know there's some
- 37:09Speaker 2: people listening that would appreciate this reference for Canada day.
- 37:13Speaker 2: To me, the best person, the best representative of Canada
- 37:18Speaker 2: and the Canadian athletes, We'll always be Rod Jobert. Okay,
- 37:24Speaker 2: he was to me the ultimate gentleman and the greatest
- 37:28Speaker 2: person and one of the best Canadians out there.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Well he was mister Ranger for sure, and even though
- 37:38Speaker 1: he was a great Canadian and I know he became
- 37:42Speaker 1: an American citizen of dual citizenship. He was just a
- 37:47Speaker 1: good guy.
- 37:48Speaker 6: I mean, we just remembered that we had him at
- 37:49Speaker 6: that remote at Modell's and that was the only time
- 37:52Speaker 6: I met him face to face, and it was like
- 37:54Speaker 6: I knew the guy for twenty years.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Well, if you know my history with him, he would
- 37:58Speaker 2: always come to Viscardi Center and represent the Rangers there
- 38:01Speaker 2: and he was really part of the community, and uh,
- 38:04Speaker 2: what an upstanding gentleman. And really he embodied that Canadian
- 38:09Speaker 2: spirit of goodness. I guess he would say. So that
- 38:14Speaker 2: was my take. Now onto Mike Brown, because this one,
- 38:18Speaker 2: I hear he gonna he's gonna practice these guys tougher
- 38:22Speaker 2: than Thibbideau did. But Thibbideau and the Knicks just broke
- 38:27Speaker 2: each other's cold snaps because I remember coming into his
- 38:31Speaker 2: reign as the nick head coach, he could win a
- 38:34Speaker 2: playoff series for his life with the Bulls. He comes here,
- 38:38Speaker 2: he brings him to the playoffs and then he's the
- 38:40Speaker 2: coach that gets them in the conference final. But it
- 38:43Speaker 2: seems you are right. They probably predetermined that that was
- 38:46Speaker 2: gonna be his last season and h fired two three days.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I don't know why he got fired.
- 38:56Speaker 6: Uh.
- 38:59Speaker 1: And it's it's not like they fired him and they
- 39:01Speaker 1: had a fifty year old pat Riley type to take over.
- 39:05Speaker 1: I mean Mike Brown has I mean, he's got a
- 39:08Speaker 1: winning record, He's well over five hundred as a coach
- 39:11Speaker 1: all time.
- 39:15Speaker 5: But is it is it.
- 39:20Speaker 6: Basically just trading one good coach for another good coach,
- 39:26Speaker 6: not a great coach?
- 39:28Speaker 1: I mean, is it an upgrade? Is Brown upgrade from Thibadeau?
- 39:31Speaker 1: I don't see that, you know? And I know that Knicks. Now,
- 39:36Speaker 1: the Knicks are going to be favored.
- 39:38Speaker 6: The Knicks are the favorite in most in most betting parlors,
- 39:41Speaker 6: even though we hate to talk about betting, to win
- 39:44Speaker 6: the Eastern Conference championship next year, and everybody was saying
- 39:48Speaker 6: how poor the East is going to be, and it's
- 39:51Speaker 6: not going to be like the West.
- 39:52Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it. And the path is open
- 39:55Speaker 1: for the.
- 39:56Speaker 6: Knicks, but it's But don't don't count out Cleveland. Don't
- 40:00Speaker 6: count out an improving Detroit team. Uh, don't count out
- 40:05Speaker 6: I think Orlando is going to make a big jump
- 40:07Speaker 6: next year.
- 40:09Speaker 2: So he just ran through these teams, not by accident.
- 40:13Speaker 2: They were just they had and they had a good
- 40:15Speaker 2: thing going.
- 40:16Speaker 1: It wasn't.
- 40:16Speaker 6: But now, I mean, you're right, not by accident, you're
- 40:21Speaker 6: You're one hundred percent right, Alex.
- 40:22Speaker 1: But Dave was Albert for the whole year.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Cleveland will be up there for and uh the lost
- 40:28Speaker 2: Miles Turner. Cleveland will be up there for a long
- 40:31Speaker 2: time along with the Knicks. Now is I was in
- 40:34Speaker 2: the impression cats a free agent Siller as he signed.
- 40:37Speaker 2: I don't know exactly where we're staying with that.
- 40:39Speaker 1: No, no, no, he's still signed from his Minnesota deal.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 40:42Speaker 6: Now, the uh one interesting thing is Lebron James, for
- 40:51Speaker 6: the first time in his more than two decade career.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Opted into a deal. He always opt it out of
- 41:00Speaker 1: a deal. So there is he going to be with
- 41:04Speaker 1: the Lakers? Or does he want is he is he
- 41:07Speaker 1: going to get? Is he gonna ask for a trade
- 41:10Speaker 1: that's been rumored about?
- 41:12Speaker 2: Yeah, him and Gianni's are really trade talks right now.
- 41:15Speaker 2: So yeah, and I.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Heard I heard from a couple of people that, uh,
- 41:21Speaker 1: Annetta Koupo is not going anywhere now. Of course that
- 41:24Speaker 1: could change next week.
- 41:27Speaker 6: Yeah, but uh, the Lebron thing, I think they might
- 41:31Speaker 6: be a little smoked to that fire. I'm not saying
- 41:33Speaker 6: he's coming to the Knicks, but the Knicks would have
- 41:34Speaker 6: to be interested. I'm sure there's other teams that would
- 41:37Speaker 6: be interested in him. He would be an idiot if
- 41:40Speaker 6: he wants to get traded, not to get trade to
- 41:43Speaker 6: an Eastern an Eastern Conference team because the path to
- 41:47Speaker 6: the final is.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Is uh more open? Can we go back to Cleveland?
- 41:54Speaker 2: Also, you still got duncas there. I mean, I think
- 41:58Speaker 2: he wants to trying something, make something work with Dunkins,
- 42:01Speaker 2: because that's.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Frise.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Their chemistry right off the bat was very impressive because
- 42:07Speaker 2: Don gets would throw to Lebron Lebron. It was a
- 42:10Speaker 2: really good combination there, and I think maybe they want
- 42:13Speaker 2: to try.
- 42:13Speaker 1: They only played twenty three games last year, so I
- 42:16Speaker 1: mean that that two talented guys. But again, that's something
- 42:19Speaker 1: to look at. That's something look at the Lebron situation.
- 42:24Speaker 2: All right. I want to I want to do I
- 42:25Speaker 2: want to ask you a couple more questions because I
- 42:28Speaker 2: always love having you. But you know, yesterday the rain,
- 42:30Speaker 2: I'm just thinking about this. The Rangers actually got a
- 42:32Speaker 2: first round pick in that trade, I believe for for Keandrack.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Can you imagine there from now we're sitting at the
- 42:39Speaker 2: garden watch party instead of Ubs and they get the
- 42:41Speaker 2: first round pick. I mean, imagine that happened to they
- 42:44Speaker 2: pick a.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Well, we'll also look at this.
- 42:47Speaker 6: They have Pittsburgh's pick next year, and Pittsburgh is not
- 42:50Speaker 6: going to be very good. And uh, I'm going to
- 42:54Speaker 6: give you next year's Matthew Schaeffer right now, which most
- 42:56Speaker 6: hockey fans know, Gavin McKenna defenseman. Okay, he's he is
- 43:02Speaker 6: right now here, and on July second, he is the consensus.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Number one right now.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Well, keep on, keep on.
- 43:14Speaker 1: So who knows.
- 43:15Speaker 6: Maybe the Rangers will be drafting in the top four
- 43:18Speaker 6: or five, but they certainly don't want to be using
- 43:21Speaker 6: their pick.
- 43:23Speaker 1: They want to use that Pittsburgh pick. Oh one.
- 43:26Speaker 2: All right. I went to ask you this last time
- 43:29Speaker 2: we were on. But you're so invested in hockey and
- 43:32Speaker 2: you love the Islanders and you just love the game
- 43:34Speaker 2: of hockey. How does an NBA executive twenty eight years
- 43:39Speaker 2: love that sport more than the league you're working or
- 43:42Speaker 2: did you love them both equally? No?
- 43:44Speaker 6: I love I love all sports equally, and I love
- 43:49Speaker 6: my near three decade career with the in the NBA,
- 43:54Speaker 6: with with the Nets. I love the NBA.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Right now the NBA is I don't know. It has
- 44:03Speaker 1: to win me over a little bit.
- 44:05Speaker 6: I don't want to sound like an old guy and
- 44:06Speaker 6: saying it's better in my day, But it was better in.
- 44:08Speaker 1: My day.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Your day. I mean, the Kid era was unbelievable. For
- 44:13Speaker 2: the Nets, that's the first thing.
- 44:15Speaker 1: And the league in general, technically they were I lived.
- 44:19Speaker 6: Through Jordan Jordan and byrd rivalry, the Jordan dynasty, you know,
- 44:27Speaker 6: then the Nets getting to the finals back to back.
- 44:30Speaker 1: It was a great league. I also was.
- 44:33Speaker 6: There during you know, during the eighties when the early
- 44:35Speaker 6: party eighties before Burden Magic, when the league was not
- 44:38Speaker 6: so was in trouble with the drug issue, and David Stern,
- 44:43Speaker 6: the best, probably the best commissioner in sports maybe ever,
- 44:49Speaker 6: basically saved the league. He's a marketing genius. And all
- 44:55Speaker 6: the players who don't know who David Stern is, and
- 44:58Speaker 6: ninety percent of them don't know who he is is.
- 45:01Speaker 6: All the money guys like SGA, who was getting seventy
- 45:04Speaker 6: two million dollars in this new contract, which is just
- 45:08Speaker 6: mind boggling.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Seventy two million dollars a year.
- 45:11Speaker 6: The revenue streams that are at a ridiculous astronomical rate
- 45:15Speaker 6: for the NBA are all because the groundwork was laid
- 45:20Speaker 6: laid by David Stern. So, but I love hockey. I
- 45:25Speaker 6: enjoyed the game so much. I never worked in hockey.
- 45:29Speaker 2: I mean, did you follow hockey more as an escape
- 45:32Speaker 2: from your basketball job? Or what did you follow more
- 45:35Speaker 2: when you were when?
- 45:35Speaker 6: You know? I mean, I can't say that I love
- 45:39Speaker 6: all sports the same, Alex. I love baseball, I love football,
- 45:43Speaker 6: I love college football, I.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Love English Premier League soccer. I love I love all sports.
- 45:50Speaker 1: You know so? But right I don't.
- 45:52Speaker 2: I love to talk.
- 45:53Speaker 6: I love to talk about hockey, you know, I because
- 45:55Speaker 6: I think hockey gets short changed.
- 45:59Speaker 3: I do.
- 45:59Speaker 2: I agree with you? Now? Where you one to sit
- 46:01Speaker 2: through the doubleheaders where it'll be Nets in the afternoon
- 46:03Speaker 2: Devils at night? Did you go to both games at all?
- 46:06Speaker 2: Were you able to do that?
- 46:07Speaker 1: Or well?
- 46:08Speaker 6: I wouldn't say, for sometimes I'd go down and watch
- 46:11Speaker 6: maybe the first period if we were playing in the
- 46:13Speaker 6: afternoon and Devils were playing at night. Did I ever
- 46:18Speaker 6: do that? I probably did it once or twice in
- 46:20Speaker 6: my career. And then Meadowlands was a hop in place.
- 46:24Speaker 6: I mean, whether it was a Seaton hole game in
- 46:27Speaker 6: the afternoon and the next game at night.
- 46:31Speaker 2: We were really blessed because Lewis Katz took us under
- 46:34Speaker 2: his wing and we go in the afternoon for like
- 46:37Speaker 2: a Devil's game and sit in the suites and I
- 46:40Speaker 2: was wearing my Scott Stevens Devils signed jersey like the
- 46:43Speaker 2: happiest kid never ever. And then we've been sitting courtside
- 46:47Speaker 2: for the Nets at night. I mean, that's the kind
- 46:49Speaker 2: of treatment and niceness we got from mister Katz.
- 46:53Speaker 1: And then the Devils were fun to watch.
- 46:56Speaker 2: And they were I mean that era was unbelievable. But
- 46:59Speaker 2: the other story I have is I I always remember
- 47:00Speaker 2: watching it once where it was reversed where it to
- 47:02Speaker 2: be the Nets first, then the Devils, and there was
- 47:06Speaker 2: something about the arena getting cold when the ice was
- 47:10Speaker 2: unfurled that got me going. You know, it was like, oh,
- 47:13Speaker 2: I love this right now, you know so.
- 47:15Speaker 6: No, you're one hundred percent correct, And again I love
- 47:19Speaker 6: I love college basketball. I was seeing whole season ticket
- 47:21Speaker 6: old for twenty one years in the Meadowlands, and I love.
- 47:23Speaker 1: You know, I'd love to see seating wholly successful.
- 47:26Speaker 6: Alex, You're talking to an all around sports guy, and
- 47:28Speaker 6: I love And like I said, I love talking about
- 47:30Speaker 6: hockey because the media short changes it.
- 47:34Speaker 2: It really doesn't absolutely and it is almost like if
- 47:38Speaker 2: the teams here aren't doing well, it doesn't get much notice.
- 47:41Speaker 2: But uh, we're changing that here at one leg up
- 47:43Speaker 2: with Alex Grrett and Lutheramnello's take.
- 47:47Speaker 1: All right, I love talking about anything with you, my friend.
- 47:50Speaker 2: It is July the fourth weekend, and I can't wait.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Subway Series Baseball did this one right? Yankees versus the Mets. Uh,
- 47:59Speaker 2: it's going to be on. But your first of all,
- 48:03Speaker 2: your favorite July fourth game memory? I mean, do you
- 48:05Speaker 2: have one?
- 48:06Speaker 1: Easily?
- 48:07Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 48:08Speaker 1: Easy?
- 48:09Speaker 6: The one that went fourth nineteen eighty five, that's are
- 48:14Speaker 6: playing in Atlanta.
- 48:17Speaker 1: It's a nineteen eighteen game. There's a major rain delay,
- 48:20Speaker 1: a long rain delay, and Keith Hernandez hit for the cycle.
- 48:26Speaker 1: I think he was five for nine. So the Mets
- 48:30Speaker 1: takenally in the top of the eighteenth inning. It's also fireworks.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Night, and they still shut him off, right, and.
- 48:37Speaker 1: They still shut him off. So the Mets go ahead
- 48:39Speaker 1: in the top of the eighteenth inning, they run out
- 48:41Speaker 1: of relief pictures. Ron Darling has to come in to
- 48:47Speaker 1: try to close the game, gets the first two guys
- 48:50Speaker 1: out and Rick Camp, a pitcher, is up. The Braves
- 48:55Speaker 1: have nobody left, so the picture is up.
- 48:58Speaker 6: Ron Darling gave up a home run to Rick Camp
- 49:02Speaker 6: and your Yankee radio announcer was the Braves TV announcer
- 49:08Speaker 6: at that time. He called that that home run you
- 49:11Speaker 6: could look, you could find it on YouTube.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Then the Mets score in.
- 49:14Speaker 6: The nineteenth inning, and Darling finished the Braves off in
- 49:17Speaker 6: the nineteenth and about four o'clock in the morning they
- 49:21Speaker 6: set the fireworks off.
- 49:23Speaker 1: That's my favorite Savage July and I say that to
- 49:28Speaker 1: watch the whole game. Wow wow.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Well I wasn't around for Rags no hitter, but David
- 49:33Speaker 2: Getty throwing a no hitter, miss signing and Brennan's birthday.
- 49:36Speaker 2: But you know what's I often found interesting. Not this year,
- 49:39Speaker 2: but there were other years, either here or there. They'd
- 49:43Speaker 2: always played the boss's hometown, Indians. I don't know how
- 49:46Speaker 2: that worked out, but they seemed to always play Cleveland,
- 49:49Speaker 2: and Cleveland would beat us On July the fourth. That
- 49:52Speaker 2: that was kind of interesting.
- 49:54Speaker 6: You mentioned you were Getty no hitter. I remember watching
- 49:57Speaker 6: that with my family. Allen did to play by play
- 50:01Speaker 6: on Sports Channel. The greatness of Mel Allen, even at
- 50:05Speaker 6: that advanced age, was still there.
- 50:07Speaker 1: And the red Sacks had come in.
- 50:10Speaker 6: Alex stalling hot with the bats, and Righetti threw a
- 50:14Speaker 6: no hitter that day, a very impressive no hitter.
- 50:16Speaker 2: And the guy flew in. I think he did the
- 50:18Speaker 2: parachute during during the no hitter, So that was kind
- 50:21Speaker 2: of interesting too.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that I don't remember, but I do remember the
- 50:25Speaker 1: guy flowed.
- 50:28Speaker 2: That was that was the start the because of July
- 50:29Speaker 2: of the fourth, so that was the start the whole thing.
- 50:31Speaker 2: But no July fourth. There is always a fun time
- 50:34Speaker 2: to have a baseball game, and it's always special, but
- 50:39Speaker 2: that no hitter and then the nineteen in game. They
- 50:42Speaker 2: talked about that recently because the men's had one am
- 50:45Speaker 2: fireworks night because it was dgn't so like they shot
- 50:49Speaker 2: him up at one in the morning. I was very
- 50:50Speaker 2: impressed they did that. But there you go. Well, here's
- 50:54Speaker 2: my final thought on all this year. Two fifty. If
- 50:58Speaker 2: the Philadelphia Phillies are not home on July fourth, twenty
- 51:02Speaker 2: twenty six. I will be so pissing Major League Baseball.
- 51:06Speaker 2: They have to make that happen.
- 51:09Speaker 6: You're right, and just so they don't screw it up,
- 51:12Speaker 6: send Commissioner Manfred.
- 51:16Speaker 1: A note on that.
- 51:17Speaker 2: You're right and say, I don't care if the Ulcar
- 51:20Speaker 2: game's in Philly for twenty twenty six. You gotta play
- 51:24Speaker 2: the Phillies at home too, Okay, no doubt, and it'd
- 51:28Speaker 2: be fun to go to well Terminello's take, it's been
- 51:31Speaker 2: a blast. It's been fun. And uh, you know, if
- 51:34Speaker 2: you keep comparing mister Shaffer to Bobby or maybe they'll
- 51:37Speaker 2: give him some luck. We'll see.
- 51:39Speaker 1: No, now, don't get don't get me in trouble for that.
- 51:42Speaker 1: There was only one Bobby or I was comparing one
- 51:45Speaker 1: play order two plays. But I'll tell you one thing.
- 51:48Speaker 6: I hope this kid makes a big time because he's
- 51:51Speaker 6: such a good kid.
- 51:53Speaker 2: So and then we'll have PEG's perspective on the give
- 51:56Speaker 2: us an update from Islanders camp in the codays all right,
- 52:00Speaker 2: loud Tamaelo, Happy fourth of July, and may God bless
- 52:03Speaker 2: America and
- 52:05Speaker 6: Happy fourth of July, God bless America, and Alex, thank
- 52:07Speaker 6: you for always having me on
