- 0:11Speaker 2: They'd be good morning, six after five. Great to have
- 0:14Speaker 2: your company coming up. We'll talk about this key we
- 0:16Speaker 2: save a plan from National We'll go to Gavin Gray,
- 0:18Speaker 2: a UK correspondent, will also talk about this crash that
- 0:22Speaker 2: involved a truck and what Insid's THA should be able
- 0:26Speaker 2: to do with trucking. Who've got dodgy vehicles? All that ahead,
- 0:30Speaker 2: plus Jeesu's all going on the IF one in Las Vegas.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Updates on that too.
- 0:36Speaker 1: The agenda Monday.
- 0:39Speaker 2: To twenty fourth and November trumps back to bashing Ukraine
- 0:42Speaker 2: on the war with Russia.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I would like to get the piece.
- 0:44Speaker 4: It should have happened a long time ago.
- 0:47Speaker 1: The Ukraine war with Russia should have never happened.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Talks are going on in Geneva at the moment, including
- 0:52Speaker 2: the Europeans.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Ukraine must have the freedom and sovereign way to choose
- 0:56Speaker 5: its own destiny. They have chosen as European Day. It
- 1:01Speaker 5: starts with the country's reconstruction, it's integration into our single
- 1:06Speaker 5: market and our defense in dust Few Base and ultimately
- 1:11Speaker 5: joining our union.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Now to COP thirty, Did I not tell you it
- 1:14Speaker 2: was going to be an absolute raging success where they've
- 1:18Speaker 2: signed a deal and there's no mention of fossil fuels
- 1:20Speaker 2: in there, So.
- 1:21Speaker 6: What's the big takeout? Well, that's what I asked Ad Milibanda,
- 1:24Speaker 6: UK Energy Secretary. He said, listen, a week deal is
- 1:28Speaker 6: better than no deal at all, because at least it
- 1:30Speaker 6: shows that countries can come together in these fractured political times.
- 1:34Speaker 6: And you've got to remember, had there been no agreement,
- 1:36Speaker 6: the talks would have crashed. Would then be people would
- 1:39Speaker 6: be saying, well, what's the point of this entire global
- 1:42Speaker 6: climate process?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Now? This ossie who jumped a barrier and grabbed Ariana
- 1:46Speaker 2: Grande at a Wicked premiere has been banned from Singapore. No,
- 1:50Speaker 2: you're not allowed to come back. Jason when Johnson, when
- 1:53Speaker 2: forgive me a serial troublemaker? This guy crashed K Pierry's
- 1:57Speaker 2: Sydney show. You might remember that also with nine days
- 2:01Speaker 2: in prison for public nuisance.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge on early edition with r VS Supercenter explore
- 2:08Speaker 1: r v's accessories and servicing all in one news talks.
- 2:11Speaker 2: They'd be don't worry. Andrew will be in soon to
- 2:13Speaker 2: explain the f one stuff to us. Nineteen nine two
- 2:16Speaker 2: the number to text. But basically, Lando Norris and Oscar
- 2:19Speaker 2: Pastry have been disqualified because they had inspections on their
- 2:23Speaker 2: cars after the race and the tiles were too bald basically,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and when your tires the two balls, you can go
- 2:30Speaker 2: faster and that's illegal. So he'll explain that to us. Also,
- 2:33Speaker 2: there's been a bit of action with Liam Lawson, so
- 2:37Speaker 2: he's had trouble again on the track and he's put
- 2:40Speaker 2: his hand up and he said I'm sorry. He said
- 2:43Speaker 2: I'm sorry to his Racing Bulls teammates for the first
- 2:46Speaker 2: lap collision with Piastre that ruined his chance at the
- 2:50Speaker 2: Grand Prix.
- 2:52Speaker 7: Is not through for Stafford leeds Hell, the last Oh
- 2:55Speaker 7: that was aggressive, wasn't that he just had enough space.
- 2:58Speaker 2: To do that. Quite a bit of take to the
- 3:00Speaker 2: middle of the factory.
- 3:01Speaker 7: It was Lawson on ps real he was seeming at him.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, coming in a way too hot. Oh, I'm the
- 3:07Speaker 2: same for laws in that yeah. And for Lawson. Another
- 3:10Speaker 2: close call with a marshal for the second time in
- 3:13Speaker 2: the last three races, though this one wasn't quite scary.
- 3:16Speaker 8: That's just about have the same thing with the.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Senate.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But you just chomped from Andrew Ordison will give us
- 3:30Speaker 2: all the details shortly. Now this key we save a
- 3:34Speaker 2: business and no surprise that National's doing this. In fact,
- 3:36Speaker 2: I told you National was going to do this. But
- 3:39Speaker 2: it's not that big of a deal for you know,
- 3:40Speaker 2: I just heard in the news there somebody was talking
- 3:42Speaker 2: about cost of living and how can businesses afforded, et cetera. Yes,
- 3:47Speaker 2: it is going to be expense because it's covered not
- 3:49Speaker 2: just by you the employee, but also matched by the
- 3:52Speaker 2: employer up to six percent a piece. Now, none of
- 3:56Speaker 2: it kicks in. So even though you will vote for
- 3:59Speaker 2: it next year, and let's say say yeah, I want that,
- 4:01Speaker 2: I'll vote for National, National becomes the next government, they
- 4:05Speaker 2: have to negotiate with their coalition partners, and even if
- 4:08Speaker 2: at best they get what they want, it doesn't kick
- 4:11Speaker 2: in until twenty twenty nine. So your first half a
- 4:15Speaker 2: percent won't happen until about June twenty twenty nine, so
- 4:19Speaker 2: there's time to prepare, and you know, fingers crossed, I'm
- 4:23Speaker 2: praying I didn't go to church yesterday, but I'm praying
- 4:27Speaker 2: that we will be out of a cost of living
- 4:28Speaker 2: crisis by then. Surely. The other thing to note is
- 4:31Speaker 2: that the Australians, because of their super schemes, have about
- 4:34Speaker 2: four trillion dollars in retirement savings. Our key we saver
- 4:39Speaker 2: balances combined right now, despite our best efforts, one hundred
- 4:43Speaker 2: and thirty billion. So we're just miles away from each other.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Couple of other predictions to you this week Thursday. Sorry, yes, Wednesday.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Actually we're getting an OCR decision. We will get a cut.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Thursday is the deadline for this Ukraine Russia deal that
- 5:00Speaker 2: Trump's put forward. That won't happen. So you'll get your
- 5:03Speaker 2: OCR cut, but you won't get you I'm sorry. Peace
- 5:06Speaker 2: in Ukraine.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge, you're on News Talks B.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Great to have your company this morning. Yeah, nine two
- 5:12Speaker 2: nine two the numbers, text, Rich says Ryan, it's Las Vegas,
- 5:16Speaker 2: not Las Vegas. I know I always do that. I'm sorry.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'll try and when I talk to Andrew,
- 5:23Speaker 2: I will say Las Vegas, all right, Rich, thank you
- 5:27Speaker 2: for that. Nine nine two the numbers to text. You're
- 5:30Speaker 2: on News Talks EDB.
- 5:32Speaker 1: The first word on the News of the Day earlier
- 5:35Speaker 1: edition with Ryan Bridge and r V Supercenter explore RV's
- 5:39Speaker 1: accessories and servicing all in one news talks edb.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Go to any open homes on the weekend fourteen minutes
- 5:45Speaker 2: after five big jump in auction activity over the last week.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Interest dock Co dot Z monitors this is quite handy.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So in the last week, five hundred and thirty residential
- 5:54Speaker 2: property options that's fifteenth to the twenty first of November.
- 5:57Speaker 2: That's up from four hundred and thirty six previous week
- 6:00Speaker 2: four hundred and sixty six the week before that. Anything
- 6:03Speaker 2: over five hundred suggests that the market is in peak
- 6:07Speaker 2: selling mode. So we are in peak summer rush selling
- 6:11Speaker 2: mode at the moment. Two hundred of the five hundred
- 6:14Speaker 2: or thirty that we went up, two hundred and twenty
- 6:16Speaker 2: four sold under the hammer, so that's a sales rate
- 6:18Speaker 2: of about forty two percent compared to forty percent for
- 6:21Speaker 2: the week prior. Sixty one percent of those that sold
- 6:25Speaker 2: achieved they were either equal to or above their RV
- 6:31Speaker 2: Ryan Bridge. The trucking industry wants tougher rules for unsafe vehicles.
- 6:35Speaker 2: An Auckland driver was jailed for manslaughterer after his banned
- 6:38Speaker 2: truck with failed brakes killed a road worker. Billy Clemens
- 6:41Speaker 2: is with transporting en Z joins me this morning. Get
- 6:43Speaker 2: a Billy, I killed a Ryan. So this was a
- 6:46Speaker 2: pretty devastating case, wasn't it. So guy basically has a
- 6:51Speaker 2: dodgy truck and then breaks fail and it rolls and
- 6:55Speaker 2: hits a road worker.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely. Look, I'd just like to start by offering
- 6:59Speaker 3: my condolences to the final of Jonathan Walters, who was
- 7:03Speaker 3: the road worker year who was killed. This was a case.
- 7:08Speaker 3: This death resulted after a truck's breaks failed. The operator
- 7:12Speaker 3: and driver of this truck, mister Ali, knew that the
- 7:16Speaker 3: vehicle had breaking issues and the vehicle that actually been
- 7:19Speaker 3: subject to to non operation orders prior to this event.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Despite this, mister Ali had actually gone ahead and obtained
- 7:27Speaker 3: new registration plates for this vehicle that he knew to
- 7:31Speaker 3: be unsafe, and went and made modifications so it could
- 7:34Speaker 3: complete further work. And the judge described this as grossly,
- 7:39Speaker 3: grossly reckless and it's had really tragic consequences for mister
- 7:43Speaker 3: Walters and his family.
- 7:44Speaker 2: What do you want changed? What could fix that?
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yeah? I think there's three really important things to be
- 7:50Speaker 3: helpful here. So firstly, would be actually be a more
- 7:53Speaker 3: rigorous process to who's permitted to operate a road freight
- 7:59Speaker 3: transport business is in the first place, So in order
- 8:01Speaker 3: to operate a good transport business you need to hold
- 8:05Speaker 3: a TSL license. And we were actually transporting New Zealand
- 8:08Speaker 3: or at Select Committee last month making the point that
- 8:12Speaker 3: there's the barriers to entry to the industry are probably
- 8:15Speaker 3: too low. There needs to be a more rigorous assessment
- 8:17Speaker 3: before a person's in a situation where they have the
- 8:21Speaker 3: responsibility of running a company. Secondly, once people are operating,
- 8:26Speaker 3: we need to make sure that ZTA and police have
- 8:29Speaker 3: the necessary compliance tools that they need to get unsafe
- 8:32Speaker 3: drivers and vehicles off the road. And this can include
- 8:35Speaker 3: looking at the ability for MSTA and police to impound
- 8:40Speaker 3: heavy vehicles in more situations and more easily, but also
- 8:45Speaker 3: everything from cracking down on im peered driving, drug driving,
- 8:49Speaker 3: just things that will provide the public confidence that the
- 8:53Speaker 3: road freight industries operating safely. We know the vast majority
- 8:56Speaker 3: of operators do.
- 8:57Speaker 2: When you say finally, sorry, yeah, when you say too
- 9:00Speaker 2: easy to be able to get a license and to operate,
- 9:03Speaker 2: how easy is it?
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah? The Transport service license can be applied for through ZTA,
- 9:11Speaker 3: it's not a particularly rigorous assessment. What we'd like to
- 9:15Speaker 3: do is that before you before you're issued that license,
- 9:19Speaker 3: there should be a demonstration that you have the necessary skills,
- 9:23Speaker 3: you have experience within operating within the industry and the
- 9:28Speaker 3: particular sector of roadstrate that you're operating in.
- 9:31Speaker 2: So, Billy, do you just do some kind of online
- 9:33Speaker 2: fill in some online form get your license. Do you
- 9:36Speaker 2: have to sit with an instructor and do a test?
- 9:39Speaker 3: No, No, it's a theory. Yeah, it's a it's a
- 9:42Speaker 3: it's a theory test that gets passed rather than a
- 9:45Speaker 3: practical examination of your skills or business assessment.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Is that for a big big trucks too?
- 9:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right. So what we think that that's correct.
- 9:56Speaker 3: So I think what needs to happen is that there
- 9:58Speaker 3: needs to be an ass that actually looks at what's
- 10:01Speaker 3: the scale of the business that you intend to operate,
- 10:04Speaker 3: how many vehicles exactly the size and scale of the
- 10:07Speaker 3: vehicles that you're looking at operating. And also tsl's at
- 10:10Speaker 3: the moment don't have a fixed date of expiry, So
- 10:14Speaker 3: MZTA has the ability to withdraw a TSL license if
- 10:18Speaker 3: it hasn't been used to activated within the last two years,
- 10:22Speaker 3: but that doesn't happen sort of automatically as of right
- 10:25Speaker 3: so we know that Ministry of Transports had a thorough
- 10:29Speaker 3: review of the TSL program as sort of work it
- 10:32Speaker 3: wants to do on its books. Since I understand from
- 10:36Speaker 3: one so years ago, we think it would be a
- 10:38Speaker 3: great action for MOT and MZTA to take to get
- 10:42Speaker 3: this thorough review underway. I'm not sure that we've got
- 10:45Speaker 3: the right people operating road freight businesses.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Sounds like it needs to happen, but it sounds a
- 10:49Speaker 2: little bit like a weekbooks container license. Nineteen minutes half
- 10:52Speaker 2: to five. You're on News Talk CB Andrew's here with
- 10:54Speaker 2: Sport next. Lots of texts on that too.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Get ahead of the headlines on earlier with Brian Bridge
- 11:01Speaker 1: and r the Supercenter explore r v's accessories and servicing
- 11:06Speaker 1: all in one News Talk sa'd be good.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Text here five twenty one from one of our listeners
- 11:10Speaker 2: this morning, Good morning. The TEARSL is simply the license
- 11:14Speaker 2: you need to carry freight on a truck. All drivers
- 11:16Speaker 2: and operators need to have completed the practical and theory
- 11:20Speaker 2: test related to the size of a vehicle they are
- 11:22Speaker 2: driving just like you would have to do with a car,
- 11:25Speaker 2: which is interesting stuff. And lots of text about Liam
- 11:27Speaker 2: Lawson too. Ryan loved the kid. But after that drive,
- 11:31Speaker 2: Liam will be lucky to drive a taxi next year. Ryan,
- 11:34Speaker 2: I feel sorry for Liam Lawson because every time his
- 11:36Speaker 2: car goes into the pit during the race, something goes
- 11:38Speaker 2: wrong with his car. And the last race that was
- 11:40Speaker 2: mentioned that the tires on his car weren't really suited
- 11:43Speaker 2: to the track as a bit due to the heat
- 11:46Speaker 2: on it. It is five twenty two, Ryan Bridge, here
- 11:50Speaker 2: was support what happened.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Greetings, Ryan, I can just feel I mean, I think
- 11:54Speaker 4: appropriately enough. I think it was Denny Hoole, New Zealand's
- 11:56Speaker 4: only for me to one, whether in the past or
- 11:59Speaker 4: cheap winner, who said that every time we went on
- 12:02Speaker 4: the track later in his currently you could feel like
- 12:04Speaker 4: fifty thousand lawn I was coming out to mow down
- 12:07Speaker 4: the tall poppy and get that feeling about laws and
- 12:11Speaker 4: here maybe we're doing this and he's still achieving an
- 12:14Speaker 4: exceptional level. But yeah, a difficulty there in Las Vegas,
- 12:17Speaker 4: especially starting from sixth I mean it's just that that, Yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 4: it's pretty pretty ruthless as we've seen overnight, and I've
- 12:25Speaker 4: even printed this out here because I'm just not sure
- 12:28Speaker 4: about what a skid block is and I'm not enough
- 12:30Speaker 4: of a petrol head. But Oscar Piastre Land of Norris Course,
- 12:35Speaker 4: Landon Dorris leading the championship for McLaren and Pastree is
- 12:38Speaker 4: in the second they've been disqualified and that means that
- 12:43Speaker 4: makes us STARp and now in line is just twenty
- 12:46Speaker 4: four points back off the lead Pastry and we're starting
- 12:49Speaker 4: together on three sixty six points Norris on three hundred
- 12:52Speaker 4: and ninety and given it it's twenty five points for
- 12:56Speaker 4: a win, there's two races left in the season. It
- 12:58Speaker 4: is wide open for me.
- 13:00Speaker 2: One championship. Well that's exciting, isn't it It is.
- 13:02Speaker 4: I think we're going to be, you know, thrill by
- 13:04Speaker 4: what's going to be taking places next to so races
- 13:06Speaker 4: in Abu Dhabi is the final race and then cutter
- 13:10Speaker 4: as well.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Nine millimeters thickness, that's the if anything below that and
- 13:14Speaker 2: you're out.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Basically that's why you start with ten apparently ten milimeters
- 13:18Speaker 4: on your rears good block and there's a variation across
- 13:22Speaker 4: a race of one millimeter and then if it goes
- 13:25Speaker 4: beyond that. I think they were one point h seven
- 13:27Speaker 4: one point one two. That means that that you're.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Out, because that means you can go faster. I think
- 13:33Speaker 2: the older you are, the faster you are.
- 13:35Speaker 4: And what I understand in my reading this morning's aerodynamics.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Like women's sh shaving their legs. Yep, okay, we.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Add that those skin suits or something you know, got yeah,
- 13:45Speaker 4: that's just yeah. I mean, I'm not technically mind enough
- 13:48Speaker 4: about it, but that's apparently what what happens. But the
- 13:50Speaker 4: context of it is that the World Championships are there
- 13:53Speaker 4: for the taking for still three drivers.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Now the all Blacks and Whales.
- 13:57Speaker 4: I remember the haze of the fireworks under a roof
- 14:02Speaker 4: still that I was like, oh no, anyway, it's been
- 14:05Speaker 4: a bit of a haze has space over the season
- 14:07Speaker 4: by all black standards. What ten wins, three losses. Just
- 14:11Speaker 4: hearing Jason Ryan this morning talking about, yeah, they brought
- 14:14Speaker 4: through some talent. I think nineteen players said they've added
- 14:17Speaker 4: over the last two seasons. I guess exceptional ones being
- 14:20Speaker 4: Fabian holland Peter Luckeye from this year, Wallace, the Titi
- 14:23Speaker 4: sell of the mixed, but I mean disciplinary problems yellow cards,
- 14:26Speaker 4: et cetera. He's given quite a frank and candid analysis
- 14:30Speaker 4: of where they're at. But yeah, well I guess a
- 14:33Speaker 4: convincing went over over Wales, but the grand slam eluding
- 14:37Speaker 4: them with England very quickly.
- 14:39Speaker 2: We heard a comical ashes we did.
- 14:42Speaker 4: I mean it was just extraordinary went by in the
- 14:46Speaker 4: bed of an island.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Really, I mean, just to be.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Over in two days, and I think there's been what
- 14:53Speaker 4: twenty six tests have been on that in the history
- 14:55Speaker 4: of test crick that's about one percent of all tests
- 14:58Speaker 4: finished inside two days. Just given the whole that has
- 15:00Speaker 4: been built up around the seases. I mean, it's such
- 15:02Speaker 4: a cavalier approach from England with the bat and then
- 15:05Speaker 4: Travis Head just delivering. And I just the upshot of
- 15:09Speaker 4: this too from a commercial point of view. They've lost
- 15:11Speaker 4: two days exactly, at least days three and four apparently
- 15:15Speaker 4: about three million dollars worth of revenue.
- 15:17Speaker 2: And my pre upset Ryan, I can imagine my friend's
- 15:20Speaker 2: on a flight from London now miss it that will
- 15:22Speaker 2: that that eous bringing work mates over from the UK and.
- 15:27Speaker 4: This is so anticipated the series and for it to
- 15:29Speaker 4: finished in that fashion, I mean entertaining as it was,
- 15:32Speaker 4: but I'm not sure that it was the greatest versement
- 15:34Speaker 4: for the longest form of the game.
- 15:35Speaker 2: There game, It wasn't twenty six after five Thank you
- 15:38Speaker 2: Andrew Ortison was sport. You're on news TALKSB the early.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Edition full the show podcast on iHeartRadio Power by News
- 15:45Speaker 1: Talks B.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Five Eight's a lot of strikes on at the moment
- 15:50Speaker 2: in the unions. Well, they change like wounded bulls for
- 15:53Speaker 2: their services, don't they Some of them up to fifty
- 15:55Speaker 2: bucks a fortnight for the privilege, and they claim that
- 15:58Speaker 2: they're in it for the workers. Of course they do.
- 16:00Speaker 2: They care about them, they want to pay the conditions,
- 16:02Speaker 2: they want them to be better. They've worked their way
- 16:04Speaker 2: up the union ranks to help those at the bottom, etc. Etc.
- 16:08Speaker 2: But then once they get a bit of a profile,
- 16:11Speaker 2: they jump ship and where do they go? The Labor Party.
- 16:14Speaker 2: They're good mates and Craig Rennie he fits the bill
- 16:17Speaker 2: for this. He flits between the CETU and Grant Robertson's office,
- 16:21Speaker 2: and he's been now selected to run in Wellington. Bas
- 16:25Speaker 2: flurfits Simons, who tried but failed to get elected for Labor.
- 16:28Speaker 2: She's surely going to try and weasel her way back
- 16:30Speaker 2: and onto the list somewhere. Michael Wood he wants back in.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Can't get enough of it. You see, Unions are simply
- 16:37Speaker 2: not the premier league for these guys, are they. They're
- 16:40Speaker 2: the equivalent of the bench for the labor Caucus. It's
- 16:42Speaker 2: the place you go to keep your profile up while
- 16:45Speaker 2: you wait for another turn. It's sucking from the public
- 16:47Speaker 2: tit and there's nothing particularly wrong with this. But if
- 16:51Speaker 2: you're a low wage worker who believes these people are
- 16:54Speaker 2: your champions and are in it for you, for negotiating
- 16:57Speaker 2: hard with your employees, for doing the muhi, and then
- 17:00Speaker 2: you realize actually they've just been using this as a
- 17:03Speaker 2: bit of a flight path to feather their nest at
- 17:05Speaker 2: the beehive. Wouldn't you be a bit pissed off with that?
- 17:08Speaker 2: I would be. Not all union members are lefties after all,
- 17:12Speaker 2: Sure many of them are, but most just want a
- 17:14Speaker 2: fair deal and a decent spokesperson, not a bunch of
- 17:18Speaker 2: political wannabes doing dress ups waiting for their time in
- 17:23Speaker 2: the National spotlight news talks. He'd be.
- 17:25Speaker 1: We're in the UK on your radio and online on
- 17:29Speaker 1: iHeartRadio early edition with Ryan Bridge, and are the Supercenter.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Explore these accessories and servicing all in one.
- 17:38Speaker 2: News Talks at B twenty four away from Sexier on
- 17:43Speaker 2: News Talks VB for your Monday morning. Great to have
- 17:45Speaker 2: your company. We'll look at these key WESAB changes before six. Also,
- 17:49Speaker 2: the deal with Ukraine and Russia organized by Trump not
- 17:53Speaker 2: going to happen on Thursday, I don't think, and Trump
- 17:55Speaker 2: is now lashing Ukraine again. Zelenski's out tweeting we'll have
- 17:58Speaker 2: more on that with Gavin Gray out of the UK.
- 18:00Speaker 2: The key we say a thing. Total remuneration packages are
- 18:04Speaker 2: apparently going to become a problem because what employeers will
- 18:07Speaker 2: do is say, oh, yeah, we could give you that
- 18:10Speaker 2: you know, top rate of six percent. You pay six percent,
- 18:14Speaker 2: we add six percent, there's your twelve percent, or we
- 18:17Speaker 2: could give you that money up front now and you go, well,
- 18:20Speaker 2: of course, I have the money in my pocket right now.
- 18:22Speaker 2: And so that actually disincentivizes you from saving for your
- 18:26Speaker 2: retirement because who wants to wait until they're sixty five?
- 18:28Speaker 2: You know, this is the thought process of a young person.
- 18:32Speaker 2: So is it going to do what it says it'll do.
- 18:34Speaker 2: We'll talk about that before six. Brian Bradley, our reporters
- 18:37Speaker 2: around the country. Callum Procter and Dnedan Callum, good morning,
- 18:40Speaker 2: morning riots. You've got some smarter tech for Dunedin Hospital.
- 18:45Speaker 9: Here, for the new outpatient building which will open into
- 18:48Speaker 9: Needa next year, a digital health design lab's been set up.
- 18:52Speaker 9: It's just a cross from this new build. It's this
- 18:54Speaker 9: is this lab. It's trialing equipment such as a new
- 18:57Speaker 9: digital booking system, digital signage for directions around the new
- 19:02Speaker 9: building and journey boards as well with real time updates
- 19:05Speaker 9: on appointments and patient flow. Health New Zealand says it
- 19:08Speaker 9: will improve accuracy, bring faster access to information and also
- 19:12Speaker 9: reduce staff workload. The new hospital has a digital program director.
- 19:16Speaker 9: He's Philed Baskerville. He says this system will make communication
- 19:19Speaker 9: faster and clearer.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Right across the hospital. All right, how's your weather?
- 19:23Speaker 9: Mostly fine nor easterly this afternoon fifteen the high cheers.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Callum, Hey clear, good morning. What's happening there? People getting
- 19:31Speaker 2: business is getting broken into?
- 19:32Speaker 10: Yeah, Well, there was a massive ninety minute crime spree
- 19:35Speaker 10: in christ Church yesterday morning. So multiple businesses across six
- 19:39Speaker 10: different suburbs were hit by what police say were a
- 19:42Speaker 10: group of youths This happened between the hours of four
- 19:44Speaker 10: and five thirty am. They were alluded to these burglaries
- 19:48Speaker 10: ranging from sort of the suburbs of Halls will Ricket
- 19:51Speaker 10: in Addington to the other side of town and Waltham too.
- 19:54Speaker 10: The alleged youth offenders used a number of stolen vehicles
- 19:57Speaker 10: to unlawfully gain entry to the premises, i e. They
- 20:00Speaker 10: ram rated them. It's believed that they took multiple items
- 20:04Speaker 10: from different locations and perhaps some insight into the age
- 20:07Speaker 10: of these offenders was that multiple food items were taken,
- 20:11Speaker 10: including potato chips and some brownies. Police do say that
- 20:14Speaker 10: the youths have fled in some more stolen vehicles they reckon.
- 20:18Speaker 10: They've also intentionally driven in a dangerous manner, which is
- 20:21Speaker 10: apparently because they know police will not pursue them due
- 20:24Speaker 10: to the risk. The inquiries into the burglaries are ongoing.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Oh makes you mad, doesn't it. How's your weathering?
- 20:30Speaker 10: Cloudy with the odd shower clearing of it. Nater south
- 20:32Speaker 10: easterly is turning northeast and the high will be fourteen.
- 20:35Speaker 2: All for some potato chips? Thanks clear himax morning, good weekend. Yeah,
- 20:42Speaker 2: pretty quiet.
- 20:42Speaker 7: One of those in between weekends.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Okay, what's going on with the bars giving away a
- 20:47Speaker 2: bar tab and they'll close your bar down?
- 20:49Speaker 7: Yeah, So this is a Dakota bar and courtney place
- 20:51Speaker 7: which runs a weekly pub quiz. One hundred and fifty
- 20:54Speaker 7: dollars worth of bar tabs up for grabs. I probably
- 20:57Speaker 7: shouldn't fully admit this, but used to go to the
- 20:59Speaker 7: pub quiz every week or two until a few months ago.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Apparently you can't do that.
- 21:02Speaker 7: You can't advertise bar tabs as a prize or promotions
- 21:06Speaker 7: that encourage excessive drinking or offer free alcohol. But don't
- 21:09Speaker 7: all pub quizzes do that? I'm not sure Anyway, The
- 21:13Speaker 7: owners had a number of run ins with a city council.
- 21:15Speaker 7: He says he's being targeted by an overly judicious committee
- 21:19Speaker 7: and chief licensing inspector who wants the cancelation outright of
- 21:23Speaker 7: the venue's license. The council says the bar's language appears
- 21:28Speaker 7: to offer free alcohol and promoting excessive consumption. So there's
- 21:31Speaker 7: one hundred and fifty dollars worth of bar tabs up
- 21:33Speaker 7: for grabs, probably on the side of the bar here.
- 21:35Speaker 7: The top prize is seventy five dollars. Let's say the
- 21:38Speaker 7: quiz team is made up of five players. That's basically
- 21:40Speaker 7: just a free drink each, which is hardly excessive. And
- 21:43Speaker 7: the city council, of course, does have history trying to
- 21:46Speaker 7: stop bars, clubs, etc. Operating full stop on Courtney Place.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Now they're doing anything they can to stop people from
- 21:52Speaker 2: going there. So it's not free alcohol because you have
- 21:55Speaker 2: to win something to get it right. Exactly stupid. How's
- 21:59Speaker 2: your them cloudy today?
- 22:01Speaker 7: With the odd shower seventeen?
- 22:03Speaker 2: They thank you. I'm sick to death of these Welser
- 22:06Speaker 2: bureaucrap people. Yes, like there are so many examples of
- 22:09Speaker 2: this now and the owly you can't have that. You
- 22:11Speaker 2: have to have labeling on this, you have to can't
- 22:13Speaker 2: sell that. And look what's happening to young people? They're
- 22:16Speaker 2: all depressed.
- 22:18Speaker 11: What about old people are depressed to you?
- 22:20Speaker 2: Yeah, because people used to go out and socialize, have
- 22:23Speaker 2: a drink at a bar and socialize and eye to
- 22:26Speaker 2: eye have a conversation. Right now they're at home on
- 22:28Speaker 2: their phones, just depressed and anxious and a ball in
- 22:32Speaker 2: the corner. You don't go into a.
- 22:34Speaker 11: Pub, quarse. I was just thinking Max would be quite
- 22:36Speaker 11: good in a pub.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Quarse it'd be great go to Dakota. Good morning, Neva.
- 22:41Speaker 2: How are you hey. Great weather on the weekend.
- 22:44Speaker 11: Wasn't as beautiful.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I've been doing work on the house out and about.
- 22:50Speaker 11: You look very tense.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you got a good ten.
- 22:54Speaker 11: As brown as me.
- 22:57Speaker 2: That's saying something. Politics here in the City of Sales,
- 23:01Speaker 2: they're wanting real action on housing.
- 23:04Speaker 11: Yeah, this is going to upset you. This is this
- 23:05Speaker 11: We're just talking about this homeless issue again here in Auckland.
- 23:09Speaker 11: So there's been an open letter. So the Auckland politicians organizations, Yes,
- 23:13Speaker 11: you're quite right, they want re election, so they've penned
- 23:17Speaker 11: this open letter criticizing the government's proposed ban. This is
- 23:20Speaker 11: on the homeless people in the CBD here is pushing
- 23:23Speaker 11: for a return of emergency housing, funding for outreach services
- 23:26Speaker 11: public housing. So the person who's come out to talk
- 23:29Speaker 11: about this as Vanessa Cole, who is the Action Station
- 23:33Speaker 11: Housing campaigner. So, I mean, we've heard all of this before,
- 23:37Speaker 11: haven't we. She's saying this ban would force people into
- 23:40Speaker 11: other parts of the city, potentially further away from support.
- 23:44Speaker 6: What do you do?
- 23:44Speaker 10: What do you do?
- 23:46Speaker 11: She's saying, come on, come on, is this some real answer?
- 23:49Speaker 2: And also another open letter.
- 23:50Speaker 11: You know, funny you should say I was in the
- 23:52Speaker 11: newsroom before saying open letter. Everyone's doing an open letter.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Give me a closed one and I'll be interested until
- 23:59Speaker 2: then is a block? How's our with us in more
- 24:03Speaker 2: of the good stuff?
- 24:04Speaker 11: Yes, fine, fine, five just a chance of a show.
- 24:07Speaker 11: But year heaps of good stuff.
- 24:09Speaker 12: Yere twenty one is a highs.
- 24:10Speaker 2: By the end of the summer, I'll be Neva Brown
- 24:14Speaker 2: been away from Sexty's TALKSIB News Talks EB. It is
- 24:18Speaker 2: quarter to six.
- 24:19Speaker 8: Now.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Marjorie Taylor Green, or as Trump calls her, Marjorie Traitor Green,
- 24:24Speaker 2: has quit. She's quit in Congress. This is the one
- 24:27Speaker 2: that the peroxide blonde mega hat wearing one you can't miss.
- 24:30Speaker 2: So she came into the Mega movement because she was
- 24:32Speaker 2: anti establishment. She says, the problem is now MAGA has
- 24:35Speaker 2: become the establishment. So she'll go off and do something else,
- 24:38Speaker 2: presumably outside of it.
- 24:40Speaker 1: International correspondence with ins andn Eye Insurance, Peace of mind
- 24:44Speaker 1: for New Zealand business.
- 24:46Speaker 2: It's big meeting in Geneva, going on over the war
- 24:48Speaker 2: in Ukraine, joining us, Gavin Gray, Gavin Progress.
- 24:53Speaker 12: No, not really, not that we know of. At the moment.
- 24:56Speaker 12: So this is a meeting between security staff of being
- 25:00Speaker 12: called the G three or the E three Britain, France
- 25:03Speaker 12: and Germany, and then meeting currently the European Union, US
- 25:06Speaker 12: and Ukrainian officials for further discussions on Donald Trump's plans. Incidentally,
- 25:11Speaker 12: he said about his twenty eight point peace plan that
- 25:15Speaker 12: Ukraine leadership has expressed a zero gratitude towards him and
- 25:20Speaker 12: America thus far, and that kind of ops the ante.
- 25:23Speaker 12: Having said that not everything in this twenty eight point
- 25:26Speaker 12: plan was written in stone and that there weren't anything
- 25:30Speaker 12: that could have been debated. Now suggesting that Ukraine has
- 25:34Speaker 12: not been coming forward in its gratitude, I'm afraid further
- 25:38Speaker 12: muddies the water. And what the Europeans are doing is
- 25:41Speaker 12: constantly playing catch up to what's been presented to them.
- 25:44Speaker 12: Are they going to be able to have us say
- 25:46Speaker 12: on things, Well, they might be able to tweak one
- 25:48Speaker 12: or two things. I think by and large, the deal
- 25:50Speaker 12: that Trump has outlined is the deal that is on offer.
- 25:54Speaker 12: It's whether that a lot of Mezzelenski and Ukraine takes
- 25:57Speaker 12: it or not, but certainly Europe trying to flex its mass.
- 26:00Speaker 12: I think trying to give guarantees over the future security
- 26:03Speaker 12: of Ukraine in whatever shape that country may take. That
- 26:06Speaker 12: they certainly look to be very much on the back
- 26:08Speaker 12: foot of rather behind the curve when it comes to
- 26:11Speaker 12: this piece deal.
- 26:11Speaker 2: All right, we won't hold out of breath for a
- 26:13Speaker 2: deal by Thursday. Now what Starma got to do with this?
- 26:17Speaker 2: I mean, the US Congress wanted Andrew mount betten Windsor
- 26:20Speaker 2: as we now call him, to appear before Congress. He
- 26:23Speaker 2: didn't reply in that upstate and now Stamer is involved.
- 26:28Speaker 12: Yes, so this is all that the US Congress wanted
- 26:31Speaker 12: to speak to him about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
- 26:34Speaker 12: They're investigating everyone Jeffrey Epstein knew, and they're trying to
- 26:39Speaker 12: get a bigger handle therefore of who might have been
- 26:41Speaker 12: involved in the various scandals that were circulated around the
- 26:46Speaker 12: late disgraced financier and sexual abuser Jeffrey Epstein. So, of
- 26:50Speaker 12: course Prince Andrew was given a deadline. He has not
- 26:53Speaker 12: responded to that at all, and plenty in the US
- 26:56Speaker 12: Congress thinking that is rude. But on a recent trips
- 27:00Speaker 12: a kirs Starmer, the British Prime Minister was asked about
- 27:03Speaker 12: this idea about people and the Congress. Inquiring to Epstein
- 27:09Speaker 12: and he said, well, you know, as a rule of thumb,
- 27:11Speaker 12: basically anyone with information should come forward. Then, when asked
- 27:15Speaker 12: principally what about the former Prince Andrew or Andrew mount
- 27:19Speaker 12: Batan Windsor, he said, well, I can't comment on this
- 27:22Speaker 12: particular case, but then added a general principle I've heard
- 27:25Speaker 12: for a very long time is that anybody who's got
- 27:27Speaker 12: relevant information and relating to these kinds of cases should
- 27:30Speaker 12: give that evidence to those that need it, thereby implying, well, actually,
- 27:35Speaker 12: Prince Andrew does have something to answer or Andrew mount
- 27:38Speaker 12: Batan Windsor, so he's really been caught up rather unwisely
- 27:43Speaker 12: in a row between politics, the US Congress, British politics,
- 27:47Speaker 12: and also the royal family, and those three do not
- 27:49Speaker 12: tend to mix terribly.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Well, Gevin, thank you. Devin Gray are UK europe correspondent
- 27:55Speaker 2: to Living to.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Six Bryan Bridge.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Nationals dropped ats first election promise it once to lift
- 27:59Speaker 2: the fault? Can we save a rate to twelve percent
- 28:02Speaker 2: by twenty thirty two to match the Aussies, Employer contributions
- 28:05Speaker 2: were jumped to six percent, increasing by half a percent
- 28:07Speaker 2: each year, but not until twenty twenty nine. Claire Matthews
- 28:11Speaker 2: is Associate Professor, Mass University Business School. Claire good morning,
- 28:15Speaker 2: Good morning, Ryan, good thing.
- 28:18Speaker 8: Well, yes, and though yes, it's good to see key
- 28:22Speaker 8: We Saver rates rise, but to see it done in
- 28:25Speaker 8: this way is not necessarily the best way.
- 28:27Speaker 2: What's wrong with this way?
- 28:31Speaker 8: It's a little bit piecemeal. We need to actually think
- 28:33Speaker 8: about can we save it in bigger terms and think
- 28:37Speaker 8: about actually, if we're going to make some changes, how
- 28:40Speaker 8: do we want it to log And yes, one of
- 28:42Speaker 8: those changes might be to their default rate, but that
- 28:45Speaker 8: should be part of a bigger picture, not a single change.
- 28:49Speaker 8: There are other changes that need to be made, which
- 28:52Speaker 8: came out in the Retirement Commissioner's Report on the Review
- 28:56Speaker 8: of Retirement Income last week or the week before. There's
- 29:00Speaker 8: things like total remuneration contributions for over sixty five year olds.
- 29:06Speaker 8: Those are just a couple of things, but it's looking
- 29:08Speaker 8: at it in a bigger way. And the other issue
- 29:10Speaker 8: is that if people think it's too high because you're
- 29:14Speaker 8: not compelled to be a member of Key We Save,
- 29:16Speaker 8: but they'll just say or to continue to contribute, they'll
- 29:20Speaker 8: just say I can't afford this, I'll put it off hold,
- 29:22Speaker 8: and therefore then they're not contributing anything, which is actually
- 29:25Speaker 8: a worse situation.
- 29:26Speaker 2: It's basically choose your own adventure. You can choose to
- 29:29Speaker 2: be in it or not be in it, and you
- 29:30Speaker 2: can choose which rate you go with. So what the
- 29:33Speaker 2: total remuneration issue has been raised with me before, So
- 29:36Speaker 2: tell me how this works. An employer will say, yeah,
- 29:39Speaker 2: we could do the OT six percent rate and match
- 29:42Speaker 2: your six percent rate, or we could give you the
- 29:44Speaker 2: money now in hand.
- 29:47Speaker 8: Basically that's how it works. Yeah, so instead of putting
- 29:50Speaker 8: it into your KEI Savior, they say, we'll give it
- 29:52Speaker 8: to you, and then it's your responsibility to put it
- 29:54Speaker 8: into your KEII saver or put it somewhere else. But
- 29:57Speaker 8: you're not actually going to get it as an extra
- 30:00Speaker 8: your salary. It's put into your salary. There's fine for
- 30:03Speaker 8: some very high earning employees are your chief executives and
- 30:08Speaker 8: C suite people, but it's where it gets supplied to everybody,
- 30:13Speaker 8: and CEOs isn't like have a bit more power in
- 30:18Speaker 8: terms of their relationship with their employer. But some employers
- 30:22Speaker 8: do this to people who really have no power in
- 30:24Speaker 8: their relationship, and they've really got no choice but to
- 30:27Speaker 8: go along with it, even though it's not in their
- 30:29Speaker 8: best interest or what they want.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Does it not have the same in terms of financial outlay?
- 30:34Speaker 2: Would it be no different for the employer whether they're
- 30:36Speaker 2: paying into a KIPI saver or giving them to them upfront.
- 30:41Speaker 8: Fundamentally it shouldn't cost any difference.
- 30:43Speaker 2: So why would they do it?
- 30:46Speaker 8: Because it just makes it a lot easier. Instead of
- 30:47Speaker 8: having to worry about payments going here, there and everywhere,
- 30:50Speaker 8: they just have to worry about what amount to pay.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Gotcha clear? Matthews, Massive University Associate Professional Business scoll. Appreciate
- 30:57Speaker 2: your time this morning. It is eight to six News TALKSB.
- 31:00Speaker 1: News and Views you trust to start your day. It's
- 31:04Speaker 1: earlier this ship with Ryan Bridge and r V super
- 31:07Speaker 1: Center explore RVs accessories at Servicing Fall and one News
- 31:12Speaker 1: Talk set B six.
- 31:13Speaker 2: To six on your Monday morning. Great to have your company.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I was reading at the weekend about the Germans who
- 31:17Speaker 2: want to increase the number of soldiers in the army.
- 31:19Speaker 2: They are aiming for two hundred and sixty thousand, up
- 31:22Speaker 2: from one hundred and eighty thousand currently. An extra two
- 31:25Speaker 2: hundred thousand reservists. This will all happen, hopefully by twenty
- 31:28Speaker 2: thirty five. They've been a bit gun shy on this
- 31:31Speaker 2: obviously because of you know, Nazis. But one thing I
- 31:34Speaker 2: found interesting was the Chief of Defense has said that
- 31:38Speaker 2: NATO should be preparing for a possible Russian attack within
- 31:42Speaker 2: the next four years, possibly as early as twenty twenty nine,
- 31:45Speaker 2: and they need to be prepared for it. So it
- 31:47Speaker 2: looks like that trying news talk, said b Ryan B.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Mich Is with us next. Good morning, Mike, I'm with
- 31:53Speaker 2: you now right now this moment.
- 31:56Speaker 13: Did you sorry goo No, I was just going to
- 31:58Speaker 13: ask you you missed the lead this morning when Max
- 32:01Speaker 13: said I've had it in between weekend and he was
- 32:04Speaker 13: a bit down and the dumps. You didn't show the
- 32:05Speaker 13: sort of care to a fellow work that I would
- 32:07Speaker 13: have expected from somebody like you, Like you know what happened, Max?
- 32:11Speaker 13: What do you mean in between what was the story there?
- 32:13Speaker 2: I assumed he meant, and in between weekend like I
- 32:16Speaker 2: went away last weekend. I have got a concert on
- 32:18Speaker 2: next weekend and you don't know that, And I do
- 32:21Speaker 2: you think he's upset?
- 32:22Speaker 13: It sounded like it.
- 32:23Speaker 2: It sounded lots. Max always sounds upsets got British, He's
- 32:28Speaker 2: got that demeanor.
- 32:29Speaker 13: It's just I was I was concerned a lot of people.
- 32:34Speaker 13: Makes the people think I'm heartless, but I'm not.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I know you're not heartless because you're very sweet to
- 32:39Speaker 2: me in between the ad breaks. Oh actually, I saw
- 32:43Speaker 2: a story this morning that reminded me of you. Okay,
- 32:45Speaker 2: you know we talk about putting the creatine into the coffee.
- 32:48Speaker 13: That's the one you talked to Katie the other day.
- 32:50Speaker 2: You give him bit of advice on that. Yes, I
- 32:52Speaker 2: texted a photo of my creatine.
- 32:54Speaker 13: You're looking better because of it.
- 32:55Speaker 2: By the way, thank you. It's called functional coffee, so
- 32:58Speaker 2: they yeah, that's a big deal now, yeah, yeah, So
- 33:01Speaker 2: thirty percent in the last year alone in the UK,
- 33:04Speaker 2: there's been a thirty percent increase in functional coffee is
- 33:06Speaker 2: being sold, which are shrooms and stuff, shrooms, protein, all
- 33:10Speaker 2: sorts of stuff.
- 33:10Speaker 13: Do you put anything in coffee?
- 33:12Speaker 2: Coffee?
- 33:12Speaker 13: Honestly, I tell you if you want, if you if
- 33:15Speaker 13: you take nothing else from me this year, coffee there
- 33:19Speaker 13: is no downside to coffee. And you stick a shromer
- 33:22Speaker 13: and a bit of creatine in your coffee, you will
- 33:24Speaker 13: never look back. I reckon if Max put some shrooms
