- Aces answer late! This is The Sports Reset for Friday, July 31st. In the WNBA, the Las Vegas Aces beat the New York Liberty 104 to 99, with A’ja Wilson driving the Aces through another high-end matchup against Breanna Stewart and New York. That result keeps Las Vegas in the thick of the top-tier race, while the Liberty missed a chance to turn a road game against a contender into a stronger midseason marker. The Minnesota Lynx also made it loud, rolling past the Toronto Tempo 104 to 72. In MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers handled the Seattle Mariners 6 to 2, a useful win for a Dodgers team already sitting in the National League’s top tier. The Chicago White Sox edged the New York Yankees 2 to 1, and that one stings for New York because the Yankees are trying to chase down the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East. Looking ahead, MLB owns the day, and New York Yankees at Chicago Cubs has real deadline-week weight, with both clubs sitting in buyer territory and trying to patch pitching or lineup needs before Monday. Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Dodgers is the other big one, with Boston trying to prove its recent surge can travel against one of baseball’s best teams. In the WNBA, Indiana Fever at Portland Fire brings Caitlin Clark back into a national Friday night window, while Seattle Storm at Atlanta Dream and Dallas Wings at Washington Mystics fill out the slate. In golf, Peter Malnati leads the Rocket Classic at 9 under, and Shiho Kuwaki and Jeeno Thitikul share the AIG Women’s Open lead at 6 under.
