- 0:00This is a Tabernacle tidbit, a bite sized Tabernacle talk of 5
- 0:05minutes or less to help you get through your day when you only
- 0:09have a little bit of time. We hope this helps you know
- 0:11Christ groan His Word and show His love to others.
- 0:14Let's get started. Welcome back to Tabernacle
- 0:18Tidbits. And today we are in Second
- 0:21Timothy chapter 4 and verse #19 Paul is writing his very last
- 0:29letter that he will write before he is killed for his faith.
- 0:34Right now he is imprisoned in the capital city of Rome and
- 0:38he's writing to his son in the faith, Timothy.
- 0:41And in verse #19 Paul says this. Greet Prisca and Aquila in the
- 0:46household of Onessa Foris. Greet Prisca and Aquila in the
- 0:51household of Onessa Foris here these individuals you might not
- 0:58remember Prisca and Aquila Prisca.
- 1:02Her name would also sometimes be called Priscilla, and this would
- 1:08be like a a diminutive form. It'd be like, you know, James or
- 1:13Jimmy. And so you have Prisca.
- 1:16And for some reason in Scripture, I will probably say
- 1:20Priscilla, because that's normally how I know her name.
- 1:23Priscilla. Her name is almost always
- 1:26mentioned first in Scripture, which is very interesting.
- 1:31It was not normally that way. And when people mentioned, you
- 1:35know, husbands and wives, the husbands, the really important
- 1:38one. And so you'd say his name first,
- 1:40especially in kind of this patriarchal society.
- 1:43But for some reason in in Holy Scripture, that's not the order
- 1:47that God has it in. And Priscilla and Aquila, they
- 1:50were tent makers and we first were introduced to them in Acts
- 1:54chapter 18, where Paul, he had gone to Corinth, he'd been going
- 2:00through a lot. He had undergone heavy
- 2:03persecution from the Jews. He had from the Jews.
- 2:07As he was going on his missionary journeys, he was
- 2:10stoned and left for dead outside of a city.
- 2:13He, he ended up going to Athens where he preached in kind of the
- 2:17marketplace, and then on the Areopagus on Mars Hill and did
- 2:22not see a whole lot of acceptance of the gospel from
- 2:27when he was there. And so he went to Corinth and
- 2:30was a little bit discouraged and he actually began taking up his
- 2:34tent making again. That was one of the skills that
- 2:38Paul had had. And he became friends with
- 2:40Priscilla and Aquila, who were Jews themselves.
- 2:43They were originally from Rome, but when there was a decree that
- 2:49from the Emperor Claudius that all the Jews had to leave Rome,
- 2:54they had gone. And so they ended up in Corinth
- 2:56at the same time that Paul was in.
- 2:59And so he stayed in their house and they worked together.
- 3:03They were very, they became very knowledgeable in the Christian
- 3:06faith and they even helped to teach Apollos, who was one of
- 3:10the greatest orators or speakers or preachers of the 1st century.
- 3:16And so that Paul deals a lot with that in the book of First
- 3:19Corinthians. And Priscilla and Aquila
- 3:22actually then joined Paul when he was heading back to Ephesus
- 3:27where Timothy would receive this letter.
- 3:29And so he says, greet Priscilla and Aquila.
- 3:32These were dearly loved friends of his.
- 3:35And you can read about them in Romans.
- 3:37You can read about them here in Second Timothy.
- 3:40You can read about them in Acts. These were just a a couple that
- 3:45meant so much to Paul. And can I encourage you?
- 3:49You can be a special encouragement to the people of
- 3:53God, whether that's, you know, a pastor, an evangelist, a retired
- 3:59pastor, a Sunday school teacher, a Deacon.
- 4:02It can be a fellow member in your church.
- 4:04It can be a homebound person who's not no longer able to come
- 4:10physically to church. But you can be an encouragement
- 4:13and a help to others, just like Priscilla and Aquila were.
- 4:17And so let's have that part that I want to be someone that every
- 4:22time I know, every time Paul thought about Brazil and Aquila,
- 4:25he went, man, they were there for me during some hard times.
- 4:28They they worked in the gospel with me and they love the Lord.
- 4:33And they're still serving there in that church at Ephesus where
- 4:35Timothy is now. So he says, Timothy say hi to
- 4:38this couple for me. And then he says Greek Priscilla
- 4:41and Aquila and the household of Onessa Forrest.
- 4:44And Onessa Forrest was the one that he had come to Rome and he
- 4:49was a blessing to Paul while Paul was imprisoned.
- 4:53And so Paul says we read about him in chapter 1 in Second
- 4:57Timothy. And unlike Phagellis and
- 4:59homogenies who deserted Paul, who were ashamed of his
- 5:02imprisonment, Onessa Forrest was a blessing.
- 5:06The the verse specifically says that Vanessa Forrest often
- 5:10refreshed Paul and was not ashamed of his chains.
- 5:14And so here, even the family of Vanessa Forrest, Vanessa Forrest
- 5:18would have been from Ephesus, where Timothy's pastoring.
- 5:22And so Paul says, say hi to his family for me because he has
- 5:25been a massive blessing to me. Would people want to tell your
- 5:31family members? Oh, yeah, I know them.
- 5:34They are a great encouragement to me.
- 5:35Would you say hi because you know here as as Paul saying like
- 5:41even say hi to his family, his whole household because of what
- 5:44a blessing he is? Let's try to be that kind of
- 5:48blessing to others even today. Just for one person, just for
- 5:52one, Paul, you can make a difference today.
- 5:54Will you be an encouragement?
