- 1:51Speaker 5: a low, I mean, just like in the mid-40s or so. Sunny,
- 1:55Speaker 5: low 70s tomorrow, warming up to mid to upper 70s
- 1:58Speaker 5: for the rest of the week with nothing but sunshine.

- 2:46Speaker 5: host restaurateur legislator author grave digger and more an actor
- 2:51Speaker 5: it's danny jones good morning sir welcome to the show
- 2:54Speaker 5: good morning how are things in california my.
- 2:57Speaker 6: Friend they're fine they're fine um You know, I was
- 3:01Speaker 6: listening to some videos this morning, and you can always
- 3:05Speaker 6: tell there's AI when they say Nigeria instead of Nigeria.
- 3:12Speaker 6: And they say Al-Qaeda instead of Al-Qaeda.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:17Speaker 5: It is amazing to me, Danny, and I am not
- 3:21Speaker 5: a smart guy by any stretch of the imagination, okay?
- 3:24Speaker 5: Listeners to the show know that. But it's amazing to
- 3:27Speaker 5: me the number of people that cannot tell AI from
- 3:31Speaker 5: real stuff. Now, some of the stuff is a little
- 3:33Speaker 5: hard to tell, but some of it is just so
- 3:34Speaker 5: blatantly obvious that you see, especially in graphics and things
- 3:39Speaker 5: of that nature. It's like, how can you possibly think
- 3:42Speaker 5: that this is real?
- 3:45Speaker 6: Yeah, and the way we pronounce people's names and all
- 3:48Speaker 6: kinds of stuff. For me, it's pretty easy to tell.
- 3:53Speaker 6: And now.
- 3:55Speaker 6: You know, cause I buy books, audio books, now all the,
- 3:59Speaker 6: instead of the authors doing them, now they're all being
- 4:02Speaker 6: done by, uh.
- 4:04Speaker 5: See now I wonder though, um, what, I mean, I
- 4:08Speaker 5: guess I can understand both, both ways. I mean, I
- 4:12Speaker 5: can tell you that if, if I were to ever
- 4:13Speaker 5: do a book, which I'm not going to do, but
- 4:15Speaker 5: if I were ever going to do it, I'd probably
- 4:17Speaker 5: want to voice it myself. I mean, if I was still,
- 4:19Speaker 5: you know, alive and able to do what that is,
- 4:21Speaker 5: I don't really want AI doing it now. Of course,
- 4:23Speaker 5: you've written a book, and we're hoping that we can
- 4:26Speaker 5: get that in an audiobook form at some point, but
- 4:28Speaker 5: you need to do your own book. You need to
- 4:30Speaker 5: narrate it yourself.
- 4:32Speaker 6: Yeah, but how would I do that since Charlie's written
- 4:36Speaker 6: part of it talking about me, and then I did
- 4:42Speaker 6: some of my own narration? It would be hard.
- 4:45Speaker 5: I mean, Jake Tapper did the book.
- 4:53Speaker 6: Original thing about, you know, Biden running when he shouldn't have.
- 4:59Speaker 6: And he would refer to himself as Jake. Right. And
- 5:04Speaker 6: it just seemed odd.
- 5:05Speaker 5: I could see that, but I mean, with the way
- 5:07Speaker 5: that you and Charlie Ryan did the book, could you
- 5:09Speaker 5: not do, like, just have him do his part and
- 5:11Speaker 5: then you do your part?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:15Speaker 6: Well, I'll have to think about that. I'm not sure
- 5:21Speaker 6: if I'm not sure Charlie wants to be burdened with that.
- 5:24Speaker 5: I got you. I got you. So what is the
- 5:26Speaker 5: latest on the book? I mean, of course, the book,
- 5:27Speaker 5: you know, it's been out for several months now. And,
- 5:30Speaker 5: I mean, do we have more copies coming? I mean,
- 5:32Speaker 5: we haven't talked about the book in a while.
- 5:34Speaker 6: You can buy them on Amazon. I think they have
- 5:37Speaker 6: them in a few stores around Charleston, down at the
- 5:41Speaker 6: Capital Market. And I think they have a copy or
- 5:46Speaker 6: two down at Taylor's. And they have.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Up on the hill of eggplant. So, I mean, I
- 5:56Speaker 6: think it's had its flourish, you know. It's had its run,
- 6:01Speaker 6: but you can still get a copy of it.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Time to start working on the second one, which you
- 6:05Speaker 5: said you were already working on.
- 6:07Speaker 6: Well, I've already written something, but it would be so dark.
- 6:11Speaker 6: It would be such a darker version of... It'd be...
- 6:19Speaker 6: It'd be the whole church.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Talking again with Charleston Mayor Danny Jones. All right, so
- 6:25Speaker 5: I want to throw this out here. My wife and
- 6:26Speaker 5: I took a brief mini vacation down to Virginia Beach.
- 6:30Speaker 5: We left early Thursday morning, got back yesterday. Got down
- 6:33Speaker 5: there and got sick, by the way, Danny. I would
- 6:35Speaker 5: not recommend being sick at the beach, I'll just tell
- 6:37Speaker 5: you that. But I was able to, you know, recover.
- 6:40Speaker 5: One of the things I noticed is something very interesting
- 6:44Speaker 5: down there. Of course, you know, it's election season all
- 6:47Speaker 5: across America, midterms going on, pretty hot congressional races down
- 6:51Speaker 5: there in Virginia. There were a lot of commercials, as
- 6:55Speaker 5: you would expect, just like in West Virginia. You know,
- 6:57Speaker 5: you'll see we haven't really seen him, you know, this
- 7:00Speaker 5: this time around, but we've seen him in the past
- 7:01Speaker 5: with a lot of, you know, a lot of packs
- 7:04Speaker 5: and things of that nature. Here's the interesting thing to me.
- 7:08Speaker 5: The way that some of the ads were featuring President
- 7:12Speaker 5: Trump in a negative light. Now, you know how in
- 7:16Speaker 5: West Virginia, a Republican might say, a vote for fill-in
- 7:22Speaker 5: name here for my opponent is a vote for Joe
- 7:25Speaker 5: Biden or Kamala Harris or Bernie or AOC. You get that.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Down there, one race that I was particularly watching the
- 7:32Speaker 5: commercials for, because they were every other commercial, if you
- 7:35Speaker 5: tried to watch the news or whatever, they were they
- 7:40Speaker 5: were using President Trump in a very negative light. So
- 7:43Speaker 5: the Democrat was saying a vote for fill-in name here
- 7:46Speaker 5: is just another rubber stamp for Donald Trump. And I
- 7:50Speaker 5: just thought to myself, you would never in a million
- 7:52Speaker 5: years see that in West Virginia.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Oh, you're seeing it all over the country. He's down in,
- 8:00Speaker 6: he's almost in Nixon territory, whole wise. And can you
- 8:06Speaker 6: tell me, or can you remember, was that two ladies?
- 8:09Speaker 4: Yes.
- 8:10Speaker 6: Um, yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 5: And I actually, go ahead.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Gloria.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Gloria was one.
- 8:15Speaker 6: Um, yeah. She, she, she had the theme and then
- 8:19Speaker 6: she lost it and she's going to get back.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 6: But I mean, I just, it.
- 8:24Speaker 5: Just kind of, I guess took me because I mean,
- 8:27Speaker 5: you know, how you see, and we've all seen those commercials, Danny, where,
- 8:30Speaker 5: you know, um, it's a very, very serious sounding voice
- 8:33Speaker 5: like this, you know, we can't stand more of whatever.
- 8:36Speaker 5: And in the background of this one commercial was a
- 8:38Speaker 5: shadow of Donald Trump. And it's shown in a negative light.
- 8:42Speaker 5: In West Virginia, our Republicans can't trump up enough, you know?
- 8:46Speaker 6: Yeah, but that's about three states. Idaho, Wyoming, and West Virginia,
- 8:57Speaker 6: and that's about it. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:59Speaker 5: I just thought it was interesting. I mean, I guess,
- 9:02Speaker 5: you know, how the times have changed because, look, This
- 9:04Speaker 5: time a few years ago, it may have been the
- 9:06Speaker 5: same in those states as what it is here, but
- 9:07Speaker 5: not now. I mean, the president now, and this is
- 9:10Speaker 5: not Trump derangement syndrome. This is I'm just saying this
- 9:13Speaker 5: is what it is, has got historically low approval ratings,
- 9:17Speaker 5: particularly among independents. That's what gets me. I mean, the
- 9:21Speaker 5: Democrats are going to hate Donald Trump. We get that. Republicans,
- 9:25Speaker 5: for the most part, are going to love him. but
- 9:28Speaker 5: amongst independents, which are very important and have been very
- 9:31Speaker 5: important to the Republican platform in the past, not important
- 9:33Speaker 5: enough for West Virginia to let him vote in the primary,
- 9:36Speaker 5: but he's very, very unpopular among independents now.
- 9:41Speaker 6: Well, if you're a truck driver and you get diesel
- 9:45Speaker 6: in your car and you're a Republican, you're not going
- 9:49Speaker 6: to love Trump because the price of diesel fuel has
- 9:54Speaker 6: gone up so dramatically. And I mean, out here, it's
- 10:00Speaker 6: just completely, I rented a car. I mean, I'll save
- 10:04Speaker 6: money because I rented a car, because the price of
- 10:07Speaker 6: gas is so high, and I don't want to have
- 10:10Speaker 6: to put gas in that Cadillac.
- 10:12Speaker 5: How many miles a gallon does that Cadillac get?
- 10:16Speaker 6: Oh, not as bad as you'd think, probably about 10.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Okay. About 10.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Well, it could be worse. It could be. It could be.
- 10:25Speaker 5: It could be. It could be. But, I mean, that
- 10:27Speaker 5: just goes to show you how high gas prices are,
- 10:31Speaker 5: that it's cheaper for you to leave the Caddy parked
- 10:33Speaker 5: and to rent a car if you have to go somewhere.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Yeah. And I've driven the Cadillac twice, but I have
- 10:40Speaker 6: a rental car this time, and I actually had an
- 10:46Speaker 6: offer on the car yesterday. Oh, really?
- 10:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 6: Yeah, but, which, you know, I'll sell anything.
- 10:55Speaker 5: And this is why I love you, Danny. I'm completely
- 10:58Speaker 5: the same way.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 10:59Speaker 5: Make me an offer. Be like my brother-in-law. My brother-in-law
- 11:03Speaker 5: is into cars, and, you know, he goes down to
- 11:06Speaker 5: the rod run thing that they do in Pigeon Forge
- 11:09Speaker 5: every year. He gets down there. It's a true story.
- 11:13Speaker 5: He gets down there, and he sells his car because
- 11:15Speaker 5: somebody made him an offer he couldn't refuse with cash,
- 11:17Speaker 5: so he sold it. And then he walked around looking
- 11:21Speaker 5: for plates, West Virginia plates, so he could get a
- 11:24Speaker 5: ride back to West Virginia because he said, I wasn't
- 11:27Speaker 5: going to turn down that offer if I had to
- 11:28Speaker 5: hitchhike back. This was only a couple of years ago. Okay.
- 11:31Speaker 5: So that's the way we are in West Virginia. Hey, Danny,
- 11:34Speaker 5: I got to take, I got to take a break.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Can you hang out with me during the break? Cause
- 11:37Speaker 5: I got a couple other things I want to talk
- 11:39Speaker 5: to you about.
- 11:39Speaker 8: Sure.
- 11:40Speaker 9: All right.
- 11:41Speaker 5: We'll be back with more after this on the voice

- 14:30Speaker 5: or social media for more information. Danny Jones is with us.
- 14:33Speaker 5: He's out in California. As you are out there talking
- 14:37Speaker 5: to people in California, Danny, what's the pulse of what
- 14:42Speaker 5: they are expecting nationwide from the midterms?
- 14:45Speaker 6: We don't go there.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:47Speaker 5: At all?
- 14:48Speaker 6: Nobody. And I mean nobody. I don't talk politics.
- 14:52Speaker 5: Okay, all right. Let's say if you're listening to talk
- 14:55Speaker 5: radio like this one, you're watching television or reading the paper.
- 15:00Speaker 5: What's the take out there?
- 15:02Speaker 6: Well, you know Bill Handel. You know who he is, right?
- 15:06Speaker 6: He has a morning show out here. And it's anti-Trump. Now,
- 15:13Speaker 6: if you go over to 870, where they have Officer Tatum...
- 15:19Speaker 6: And Dennis Prager, and I'm not sure if Larry Elder's
- 15:23Speaker 6: back over there or not, but 8.70 a.m. the answer
- 15:28Speaker 6: is the conservative station. And they would be all Trump
- 15:35Speaker 6: all the time. It's funny. I don't talk about politics.
- 15:41Speaker 6: I just don't. But the signs in the complex here
- 15:45Speaker 6: are all Democrat signs.
- 15:47Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 15:48Speaker 6: They have a Republican club, but I don't know where
- 15:51Speaker 6: they meet because there couldn't be too many of them.
- 15:57Speaker 6: Let me tell you something that's going on. You know,
- 16:00Speaker 6: they took the money out of North Carolina after spending
- 16:04Speaker 6: $ 30 million on Houston. They took the money and shifted
- 16:10Speaker 6: it to Kansas of all places. I don't think Kansas
- 16:14Speaker 6: has had a Republican senator, Democrat senator since 1910. I mean,
- 16:21Speaker 6: and that they're worried about Kansas. And that's how bad
- 16:25Speaker 6: this is. And Trump is so it reminds me of 1974.
- 16:30Speaker 6: And then, of course, 2008. when Obama got elected and
- 16:39Speaker 6: had 60 Republicans, 58 Democrat senators, I think it's going
- 16:46Speaker 6: to be a blowout. The only thing that might save
- 16:48Speaker 6: the Republicans are the gerrymandering that they've been able to
- 16:52Speaker 6: do that might help them.
- 16:55Speaker 5: I mean, is there any, and you follow this stuff
- 16:57Speaker 5: even a lot more closely than what I do, Danny,
- 16:59Speaker 5: is there any reason to believe we are getting anywhere
- 17:02Speaker 5: in Iran? I mean, You know, you and I were
- 17:04Speaker 5: on the same page on Iran. A world without Iran
- 17:08Speaker 5: having a nuclear weapon is a better thing. We all
- 17:11Speaker 5: get that. But I don't think this thing, and I'm
- 17:13Speaker 5: not a military strategist by any stretch of the imagination,
- 17:15Speaker 5: but I don't think this thing is going at least
- 17:18Speaker 5: the way we've been playing, the way that we thought
- 17:19Speaker 5: we would. Are you seeing we're making any headway here
- 17:23Speaker 5: at all?
- 17:24Speaker 6: Well, I don't know. See, initially, I thought it was
- 17:28Speaker 6: a good idea. What I didn't understand was they don't
- 17:33Speaker 6: have a plan. They never they never went into this
- 17:36Speaker 6: with any kind of planning, never any beginning or end
- 17:41Speaker 6: or anything like that. And and you've gone from 2017
- 17:49Speaker 6: when you had General Mattis to today where you've got
- 17:53Speaker 6: Pete Hegseth. And I'm not sure he knows what he's doing.
- 18:00Speaker 6: It's really sad. He's Trump's big failure as an administrator,
- 18:07Speaker 6: he wants to surround himself with people that tell him
- 18:11Speaker 6: what he wants to hear instead of what he needs
- 18:14Speaker 6: to hear.
- 18:15Speaker 5: And that's a recipe for disaster no matter where you are,
- 18:19Speaker 5: whether you're in the coaching ranks or whether you're in
- 18:20Speaker 5: a Fortune 500 company or the local grocery store. That
- 18:23Speaker 5: doesn't work. You can't surround yourself with nothing but yes-men
- 18:26Speaker 5: because occasionally the boss is going to be wrong, Danny.
- 18:29Speaker 5: You know that.
- 18:30Speaker 6: Well, and in his case, it's more than occasionally. But
- 18:35Speaker 6: there's nobody that can go to him and say no.
- 18:39Speaker 6: And the Republicans, with the exception of Murkowski and Collins
- 18:49Speaker 6: and maybe one other, they voted against Texas. And it
- 18:55Speaker 6: took J.D. Vance to break the tie. All right. I mean,
- 19:00Speaker 6: he should never, ever have been there. But that's not who,
- 19:05Speaker 6: that's not the way Trump thinks. He wants to, he
- 19:09Speaker 6: wanted somebody to go down there and take General Milley's
- 19:12Speaker 6: picture off the wall and do all kinds of stupid things.
- 19:17Speaker 5: We're talking again with Danny Jones, 927. The Dave Allen
- 19:20Speaker 5: Show on 580 Live is brought to you in part
- 19:22Speaker 5: by Huston's Pizza. This month at Huston's, get a large
- 19:24Speaker 5: 18-inch pepperoni pizza and an order of cinnamon bites for $ 20. 99.
- 19:28Speaker 5: Find your closest Huston's Delivery, dine-in, or pickup at hustlespizza.com.
- 19:32Speaker 12: T.J.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Meadows, Danny, has got a really interesting commentary today. He's
- 19:35Speaker 5: going to talk about it, of course, on TalkLine. He'll
- 19:38Speaker 5: join us on midday, and I'll get him on the
- 19:39Speaker 5: end of this show probably as well. I don't know
- 19:41Speaker 5: if you had a chance to read it, but there
- 19:42Speaker 5: was an article in the Wall Street Journal talking about
- 19:46Speaker 5: law enforcement agencies around the country basically serving as as
- 19:50Speaker 5: bounty hunters for picking up illegal aliens. Now, they interviewed
- 19:54Speaker 5: the sheriff of Doddridge County in West Virginia, who said
- 20:00Speaker 5: that his department was part of it and had rounded
- 20:02Speaker 5: up a total in Doddridge County, a total of two
- 20:05Speaker 5: illegals and picked up some cash along the way. This
- 20:09Speaker 5: apparently is a big issue, the Trump administration offering bounties
- 20:13Speaker 5: for people, law enforcement, for doing their job for, I guess,
- 20:15Speaker 5: picking up, detaining illegal aliens. Are you aware of any
- 20:18Speaker 5: of this, or do you have a thought on any
- 20:20Speaker 5: of this?
- 20:20Speaker 6: I read about it in the journal, but my question is,
- 20:25Speaker 6: who gets the money? The Sheriff's Department?
- 20:28Speaker 5: I'm assuming, yes, it's the Sheriff's Department. I talked to
- 20:30Speaker 5: TJ about it, but basically in his commentary that I
- 20:33Speaker 5: actually heard on the radio this morning, you can read
- 20:35Speaker 5: it at wvmetronews.com. The actual agency gets not like an individual.
- 20:39Speaker 5: It's like it goes for equipment and things of that nature.
- 20:41Speaker 5: It goes back into the coffers of the sheriff's department.
- 20:45Speaker 6: Yeah. I'm sorry. You lose me on this one. Now,
- 20:52Speaker 6: I can see where if you had a guy in
- 20:54Speaker 6: jail and he was illegal, that you call ICE and
- 20:59Speaker 6: have ICE come pick him up. That's legitimate.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Right, yeah, 100%.
- 21:04Speaker 6: But for them to be taking away their time from
- 21:10Speaker 6: normal duties of the sheriff or the city police to
- 21:19Speaker 6: engage in activities that belong to ICE, I'm out.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Well, and I think if you try to put yourself
- 21:29Speaker 5: in the sheriff's perspective here, and they actually, I talked
- 21:32Speaker 5: to TJ earlier, they were trying to get him to
- 21:34Speaker 5: agree to come on talk line. I don't think he's
- 21:36Speaker 5: going to do so. But, you know, in his defense,
- 21:39Speaker 5: he probably sees this as the way, look, we're a
- 21:40Speaker 5: struggling sheriff's department. We need the money. We're going to
- 21:43Speaker 5: do what we can do. I mean, and I get that.
- 21:45Speaker 5: It's not like personal gain. It all goes back to
- 21:47Speaker 5: the department. But again, I'm kind of like you and
- 21:51Speaker 5: TJ on this one, Danny. I mean, I got a little,
- 21:54Speaker 5: this gives me a little bit of pause, to be
- 21:55Speaker 5: honest with you.
- 21:57Speaker 6: Well, the county commission determined the budget for the sheriff's department. Now,
- 22:05Speaker 6: what if they see the sheriff getting all this money
- 22:07Speaker 6: and say, well, okay, you're not going to need this
- 22:10Speaker 6: amount of money. We're going to use this to do
- 22:12Speaker 6: a sewer project. And I just think it's a recipe for,
- 22:20Speaker 6: I don't like it. But let me tell you one
- 22:22Speaker 6: thing that happened when I was mayor. You know, they
- 22:26Speaker 6: had a lot of them. surplus military stuff that they
- 22:32Speaker 6: were given to local police departments. I'm talking tanks, personnel carriers,
- 22:41Speaker 6: all kinds of stuff. And it was brought to my attention,
- 22:45Speaker 6: and I said, absolutely not. We are not a military outfit,
- 22:50Speaker 6: but you'd be surprised how many departments around the country
- 22:56Speaker 6: that have military, that are militarized. And that's just not
- 23:02Speaker 6: the way I look at modern-day policing.
- 23:07Speaker 5: Talking again with Danny Jones, the Dave Allen Show on
- 23:09Speaker 5: 580 Live brought to you by the Charleston Dirty Birds.
- 23:11Speaker 5: Go Mart Ballpark being transformed into an outdoor movie theater
- 23:14Speaker 5: Friday night for a Halloween double feature, which is, excuse me,
- 23:18Speaker 5: I'm struggling here, Danny. Sponsored by the Arc of the
- 23:21Speaker 5: Three Rivers. You can come check out Hocus Pocus, followed
- 23:24Speaker 5: by The Addams Family, starting at 7. For details, visit DirtyBirdsBaseball.com.
- 23:29Speaker 6: Hey, I saw a movie out here, if we have
- 23:31Speaker 6: a minute.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 6: That people may or may not be interested in. It's
- 23:37Speaker 6: pretty dark. It's called Primetime, by John Stoffel. And that's
- 23:44Speaker 6: to catch a predator. Mm-hmm. And it's does not think
- 23:49Speaker 6: docile in a good light. In what way? Every way.
- 23:56Speaker 6: First thing, he was going out on his wife. There
- 24:02Speaker 6: was one episode in 2004 or 2005 where they were
- 24:08Speaker 6: getting ready to close in with a tank on a
- 24:11Speaker 6: Texas prosecutor. And he stood in the window and blew
- 24:16Speaker 6: his brains out. And they never saw. That one was
- 24:23Speaker 6: never featured.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Oh, sure. Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 6: But it was a year or two later where they
- 24:30Speaker 6: put him, you know, they stopped his show. Now, I
- 24:35Speaker 6: was watching the guy at the keyboard pretending to be
- 24:41Speaker 6: a young boy. And he was flirting with this guy.
- 24:47Speaker 3: You know?
- 24:49Speaker 6: And it looked to me, in this particular case, maybe
- 24:53Speaker 6: just one case, like a case of entrapment.
- 24:57Speaker 5: Yeah, and by the way, I think you got your
- 24:59Speaker 5: guys mixed up. That was Chris Hansen, not John Stossel. Oh,
- 25:03Speaker 5: I'm sorry. I was going to correct you there, but yeah,
- 25:07Speaker 5: but it was Hansen, not John Stossel.
- 25:11Speaker 6: It did not make him look good. And he is
- 25:15Speaker 6: upset about the movie.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 25:18Speaker 6: But I think it's worth seeing one time. You know,
- 25:23Speaker 6: and it's, but man, it's dark.
- 25:29Speaker 5: I mean, knock out a couple texts here on the
- 25:31Speaker 5: situation we were talking about with the commentary that TJ
- 25:34Speaker 5: did today. Text says, the sheriff is the only law
- 25:37Speaker 5: enforcement official that answers to the people and is elected
- 25:40Speaker 5: and not selected. So yes, I back the sheriff in
- 25:42Speaker 5: this situation.
- 25:45Speaker 6: Well, you can back the sheriff, but the sheriff doesn't
- 25:49Speaker 6: have a jail. No, and I don't want, let me,
- 25:56Speaker 6: maybe I didn't make myself clear. The sheriff, and I
- 26:01Speaker 6: was sheriff for Kanawha County for four years. The sheriff
- 26:05Speaker 6: has duties to the citizens. Tickets, crime, just regular stuff.
- 26:15Speaker 5: Tax collection. That's under West Virginia code.
- 26:18Speaker 6: That's the number one.
- 26:20Speaker 5: Tax collection is a much bigger deal by code in
- 26:24Speaker 5: West Virginia for sheriffs than what law enforcement is.
- 26:27Speaker 6: David, that's how I got elected. I ran on the
- 26:31Speaker 6: tax department. I never wore a uniform while I was sheriff.
- 26:37Speaker 6: The only time I carried the guns was when I
- 26:38Speaker 6: qualified with it.
- 26:39Speaker 5: But....
- 26:44Speaker 6: The sheriff already has duties. Now, if you're going to
- 26:47Speaker 6: pay the sheriff to be involved in ICE activities, you're
- 26:54Speaker 6: going to take the sheriff and the department away from
- 26:58Speaker 6: their regular duties. And we don't have enough deputies now
- 27:03Speaker 6: in any town.
- 27:04Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true.
- 27:05Speaker 6: We could use more deputies. So that's my objection to it.
- 27:09Speaker 5: I got you. All right. We knock out a couple
- 27:10Speaker 5: of texts here before we let you go. Texted, it's
- 27:12Speaker 5: really annoying how everyone keeps talking about this election as
- 27:15Speaker 5: a reflection on Trump, but seems to refuse to realize
- 27:18Speaker 5: that the Democrats cannot retake control of the House, the Senate,
- 27:22Speaker 5: or the presidency ever again. The future of this nation
- 27:26Speaker 5: truly is in jeopardy. If Democrats retake Congress, they will
- 27:29Speaker 5: impeach and remove Trump, and they will impeach and remove Vance.
- 27:32Speaker 5: They will get masks. amnesty to tens of millions of
- 27:35Speaker 5: illegals just to get those votes. Illegals are having their
- 27:38Speaker 5: butts kissed by that party. They do not give a
- 27:40Speaker 5: damn about the American citizen anymore. It's all about pandering,
- 27:44Speaker 5: catering to, and bending over backwards for illegal aliens in
- 27:47Speaker 5: this country right now. It's buying their vote.
- 27:50Speaker 6: They will take over both houses. They want Pete Trump,
- 27:55Speaker 6: but they won't have the votes to convict him. All right.
- 27:59Speaker 5: Danny, it's always a pleasure to have you on the show.
- 28:00Speaker 5: When are you coming back?
- 28:02Speaker 6: I'll be in studio next Monday. I'll get back on Sunday.
- 28:06Speaker 13: All right.
- 28:07Speaker 5: Well, I look forward to seeing you in person. Hopefully
- 28:09Speaker 5: I'll be able to get through a sentence without getting
- 28:10Speaker 5: all choked up here. So I appreciate you being here,
- 28:13Speaker 5: my friend, and be safe. Enjoy California. We'll talk next
- 28:15Speaker 5: week in studio, my friend. Thanks a lot.
- 28:18Speaker 6: Thank you.

- 30:38Speaker 5: That's the aim of Steel Band, 22 minutes away from 10. Texas,
- 30:41Speaker 5: anyone who thinks the blue wave will change Congress or

- 30:49Speaker 5: radical Islam, trans kids and sports and billionaires being taxed
- 30:52Speaker 5: for them. It's either continue with the same GOP agenda
- 30:55Speaker 5: or have the country crumble under the Democrat agenda. Tex Magas,
- 30:59Speaker 5: most West Virginians and conservatives don't care about ICE paying

- 31:06Speaker 5: MAGA's hate, the MAGA's don't care. But what's concerning is

- 31:20Speaker 5: Ford of Hurricane. Visit generationsford.com. Charles Tamir, Amy Shuler Goodwin
- 31:25Speaker 5: joins me now. How you doing?
- 31:26Speaker 9: I'm wonderful. Good morning to you, sir.
- 31:28Speaker 5: So I got to tell the listeners a quick story.
- 31:31Speaker 5: So my wife and I go On vacation, a couple
- 31:34Speaker 5: days to Virginia Beach, leave Thursday morning. I get to
- 31:36Speaker 5: Virginia Beach Thursday afternoon, and I'm not feeling well. And
- 31:40Speaker 5: any time, any people that know me know I never,
- 31:43Speaker 5: ever get sick. Well, except that whole cancer thing. And I,
- 31:48Speaker 5: but I mean, I had a fever and the whole
- 31:50Speaker 5: deal literally like went like straight to bed, which is
- 31:53Speaker 5: something I never do. I was feeling better. Like within
- 31:57Speaker 5: 24 hours. My wife goes across the street to the
- 31:59Speaker 5: local CVS, gets a COVID test, brings it back, tests
- 32:01Speaker 5: positive for COVID.
- 32:03Speaker 1: But then.
- 32:04Speaker 5: Tested again, not so much, you know. And so my
- 32:07Speaker 5: fever was gone within like 12 hours. So I'm thinking, okay, maybe,
- 32:10Speaker 5: you know, and I felt pretty good last couple days.
- 32:12Speaker 5: Getting through this show today, I was not prepared for
- 32:15Speaker 5: the amount of coughing I was going to do. Now
- 32:17Speaker 5: I'm okay. I'm fine. Don't have a fever.
- 32:19Speaker 9: Well, you just sit there. I'll take it.
- 32:23Speaker 5: You just sit there now. You just do all the talking.
- 32:26Speaker 9: Well, I will say that we have a great partnership
- 32:29Speaker 9: with the I will say that, you know, this is
- 32:37Speaker 9: tis the season. By the way, we saw it. We
- 32:39Speaker 9: saw some spikes go up when we sent the littles
- 32:42Speaker 9: back to school because, you know, I'm a mayor, but
- 32:44Speaker 9: I'm a mom first. I know that they don't do
- 32:46Speaker 9: a great job sometimes washing their hands. So we saw
- 32:52Speaker 9: a little uptick there and tis the season. We're seeing
- 32:55Speaker 9: a little uptick, just a little in respiratory illnesses, just
- 32:59Speaker 9: a smidge in COVID. And so You know, obviously, all
- 33:04Speaker 9: of the good things that your parents and your teacher said,
- 33:07Speaker 9: you know, stop touching each other and wash your hands
- 33:10Speaker 9: and cover your mouth with your sleeve when you're coughing.
- 33:14Speaker 9: But it is a season. But you sound okay. The
- 33:17Speaker 9: change in the weather, too, by the way, always gets me.
- 33:21Speaker 9: It's in the spring and the fall. I lose my voice.
- 33:23Speaker 9: My children also love when that happens. But it was
- 33:29Speaker 9: a great weekend in Charleston. Mother Nature has not been
- 33:31Speaker 9: kind to us this past calendar year. But this past weekend,
- 33:36Speaker 9: she was very kind to us. Festival had a wonderful week.
- 33:41Speaker 9: I know you have Zach Harreld on quite frequently. He
- 33:43Speaker 9: does an amazing job. He's the new director. I think
- 33:46Speaker 9: he now has gone his first full big boy year
- 33:50Speaker 9: in that position, maybe. He's done a great job. I
- 33:53Speaker 9: was at the Capital Market yesterday. The artwork and local
- 33:57Speaker 9: artisans just packed the capital market. Chuck's done a really
- 34:00Speaker 9: great job over there. On Saturday, it was from the
- 34:07Speaker 9: west side all the way to the east end. Lots
- 34:10Speaker 9: of stuff going on. In particular, October West, Rick Cavender
- 34:13Speaker 9: and Charlton Urban Works did a wonderful job with their
- 34:17Speaker 9: October West. It was packed on the west side. And
- 34:22Speaker 9: not only is October West, yeah, lots of crap. I'm
- 34:25Speaker 9: not a beer drinker, so. But what is great about
- 34:28Speaker 9: that is an opportunity to visit, and especially some of
- 34:31Speaker 9: the new shops over there, the new popcorn shop and
- 34:34Speaker 9: Goldenrod Kitchen. If you haven't been, you should go. And
- 34:38Speaker 9: my very favorite shop over there, Elizabeth Lee, which I
- 34:41Speaker 9: get in trouble when I go over there. So it
- 34:43Speaker 9: was a great opportunity for folks to get a glimpse
- 34:47Speaker 9: of the near west side to downtown. And then every year,
- 34:51Speaker 9: it gets a little bigger and bigger. And I know
- 34:54Speaker 9: you know John Ingram, but Festival presented, once again, city
- 34:59Speaker 9: center dead. I'm not a deadhead. Are you a deadhead? No,
- 35:02Speaker 9: not at all. I'm not. But again... It was to
- 35:05Speaker 9: the point of— I appreciate live music, though. I do
- 35:07Speaker 9: as well. I know you do. I do as well.
- 35:09Speaker 9: And so it was packed. John Ingram and the band
- 35:12Speaker 9: did just an amazing job. Maya did a great job.
- 35:16Speaker 9: Of course, Jeff Pearson, our director of public art, was
- 35:19Speaker 9: out there as well. Festivall does a really, really nice job.
- 35:24Speaker 9: And a shout out to Mayor Danny Jones, who, you know, Festival,
- 35:29Speaker 9: that started under his leadership. And it's been wonderful for
- 35:34Speaker 9: the city of Charleston because we are a really thriving
- 35:37Speaker 9: arts community. And Festival and FestiFall really helps us solidify
- 35:43Speaker 9: that brand that we have in so much that there was,
- 35:48Speaker 9: you know who Mrs. Roper is, don't you?
- 35:50Speaker 5: Of course I do.
- 35:50Speaker 9: Of course you do. Because this is an IQ test, right?
- 35:53Speaker 9: Everybody who's listening knows who Mrs. Roper is. Well, there
- 35:57Speaker 9: is a group of women who are downtown Charleston. I
- 36:01Speaker 9: don't know if you saw the pictures. They dress up
- 36:03Speaker 9: like Mrs.
- 36:03Speaker 6: Roper.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Stanley.
- 36:05Speaker 9: And it is absolutely, yes, Three's Company. And it was
- 36:10Speaker 9: absolutely fantastic. I ran into them. And as I was
- 36:13Speaker 9: walking away from that group who were dressed in their Mrs.
- 36:16Speaker 9: Roper attire, I ran into a young guy who said, Gee,
- 36:19Speaker 9: thanks for having this. All of my friends from Pittsburgh
- 36:23Speaker 9: came in and they're staying at the Embassy Suites for
- 36:25Speaker 9: the Dead concert.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:27Speaker 9: And that's what I'm talking about. And of course, everybody
- 36:30Speaker 9: has an opportunity, hopefully already this morning, to get tickets to,
- 36:35Speaker 9: here before too long, the Red Clay Strays, which is
- 36:38Speaker 9: an amazing, amazing group that's coming into the Coliseum and
- 36:42Speaker 9: Convention Center in February, I think The 11th, right before
- 36:49Speaker 9: the Valentine's Day. I think Super Bowl's on.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Valentine's Day this year.
- 36:53Speaker 6: It is.
- 36:53Speaker 9: So if you're not interested in watching a ballgame with
- 36:56Speaker 9: your love of your life, you can see the Red Clays.
- 36:59Speaker 9: So lots of music, lots of art, and lots of
- 37:01Speaker 9: good weather this past weekend.
- 37:03Speaker 5: I mean, and you had, of course, Steve and Jenny
- 37:05Speaker 5: did their yard sale. They had that going on. We
- 37:08Speaker 5: also had Mountaineer's Night Out over at the Red Carpet.
- 37:11Speaker 5: So that was going on.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 37:13Speaker 5: Council will meet tonight along those same same lines uh
- 37:16Speaker 5: it's hard to believe the gomart ballpark mayor is uh
- 37:19Speaker 5: 20 years old now actually all over that and um
- 37:22Speaker 5: always a good idea i guess to kind of take
- 37:24Speaker 5: stock of things and see how the old girl is
- 37:26Speaker 5: holding up you know and so that's going to be
- 37:29Speaker 5: discussed the city council tonight it will.
- 37:30Speaker 9: Be and and for good measure because here's what i
- 37:33Speaker 9: know um of being in this position now i'm is
- 37:36Speaker 9: that you have to invest and you have to take
- 37:38Speaker 9: care of what you have. It's the reason, by the way,
- 37:42Speaker 9: we're doing so many infrastructure projects in the city of Charleston.
- 37:45Speaker 9: I can talk more in detail about that if you'd
- 37:47Speaker 9: like and what we're building right now. But, you know,
- 37:50Speaker 9: the ballpark was an amazing idea many a moon ago.
- 37:53Speaker 9: As a matter of fact, I was working in the
- 37:54Speaker 9: Bob Wise administration. And so I know he was intimately
- 37:57Speaker 9: involved in this project as well. But Jay Goldman and,
- 38:02Speaker 9: of course, the Kanawha County Commission, they did an outstanding job,
- 38:06Speaker 9: and as did Rob and Mayor Jones, of working to
- 38:11Speaker 9: make sure that we had that there. But just like
- 38:14Speaker 9: the Coliseum and Convention Center, it needs a couple things.
- 38:17Speaker 9: Not only does it need, yes, a look over, what
- 38:22Speaker 9: do we need to do to improve, which we've done
- 38:24Speaker 9: to the Coliseum and Convention Center, and recently we have,
- 38:27Speaker 9: in this administration, by putting in and investing in the
- 38:30Speaker 9: Coliseum side, not the Convention Center side, but the Coliseum side,
- 38:34Speaker 9: which is where we make a lot of our money
- 38:36Speaker 9: at the Coliseum and Convention Center. So tonight at Go
- 38:39Speaker 9: Mart Ballpark, we're going to, or at City Council, we're
- 38:42Speaker 9: going to be addressing Go Mart Ballpark and doing an
- 38:45Speaker 9: assessment of it, what needs to be done, what has
- 38:48Speaker 9: to be done, what's the first alligator in front of us,
- 38:51Speaker 9: and then what are our long-term plans. But I will
- 38:54Speaker 9: say that that is It's something that's necessary for sure.
- 38:58Speaker 9: We need to see how much we need to spend
- 39:01Speaker 9: now and how much we need to spend later. But
- 39:04Speaker 9: the good news about GoMart Ballpark is Andy Shea, the
- 39:09Speaker 9: owner of the Charleston Dirty Birds. This is an incredible team,
- 39:12Speaker 9: an incredible owner, and someone who really, Dave, has done
- 39:17Speaker 9: an absolutely transformational job with the ballpark. Because just as
- 39:23Speaker 9: you and I were talking about, I'm not really a,
- 39:25Speaker 9: you know, I'm not a dead head, I'm not a that.
- 39:28Speaker 9: There are other opportunities. by the way. A lot of
- 39:31Speaker 9: folks go to the ballpark who don't watch the baseball game.
- 39:35Speaker 9: Because Booth and my husband and I say this all
- 39:38Speaker 9: the time, had we had those things when our boys
- 39:41Speaker 9: were little, the family fun zone and the putt pod
- 39:44Speaker 9: and the Jupiter jumps, gosh, gee whiz, we probably would
- 39:47Speaker 9: have gone. So Not only is it about the physical infrastructure, right,
- 39:52Speaker 9: just like the Coliseum and Convention Center, just like the ballpark,
- 39:55Speaker 9: we have to look to see what should we invest in.
- 39:57Speaker 9: We also need to look at, which is what we
- 40:00Speaker 9: focused on with the Coliseum and Convention Center, filling it
- 40:04Speaker 9: and programming it so we can make money off of
- 40:08Speaker 9: that facility. And that is what I know. Andy Shea and,
- 40:12Speaker 9: of course, our administration wants to make sure that we're
- 40:15Speaker 9: doing at the ballpark. Listen, we're not going to be
- 40:17Speaker 9: millionaires and trillionaires by certain types of programming. But what
- 40:22Speaker 9: can we do to improve the lives of people here
- 40:26Speaker 9: in the Charleston area and just from around the region?
- 40:29Speaker 9: Because this is also what I do know. Times are tight.
- 40:33Speaker 9: People are having a really hard time paying for the essentials.
- 40:36Speaker 9: If we can provide them things and the infrastructure that
- 40:39Speaker 9: we have for a family-free night out or, by the way,
- 40:43Speaker 9: most of the things that we talked about this weekend,
- 40:45Speaker 9: that you could go downtown and listen to this music
- 40:48Speaker 9: and the Family Fun Zone and the Kids Free Art Project,
- 40:51Speaker 9: it was all free. It was all free. So we
- 40:53Speaker 9: have to make sure that we're looking at programming and
- 40:55Speaker 9: which can sustain us. We also need to be looking
- 40:58Speaker 9: at a quality of life, which is something that I
- 41:02Speaker 9: think sounds– Sounds like a brush off comment, quality of life.
- 41:06Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 41:07Speaker 9: Quality of life is when you are living here, I
- 41:10Speaker 9: need to have the programming and the things that you
- 41:13Speaker 9: want to do that you don't have to drive out
- 41:15Speaker 9: to another big city to do. And oh, by the way,
- 41:18Speaker 9: always top of mind and tip of tongue is what
- 41:20Speaker 9: are we doing for the families here who are struggling
- 41:23Speaker 9: to put gas in the car and food on the
- 41:25Speaker 9: table and and those opportunities as well.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Where are we on, I think I've asked you this
- 41:32Speaker 5: in a while, the relationship between the Dirty Birds and
- 41:36Speaker 5: the city as it pertains to the ballpark? I mean,
- 41:39Speaker 5: is there a lease or, I mean, where is that?
- 41:41Speaker 9: And we're going through those negotiations now.
- 41:43Speaker 5: It's great, though.
- 41:44Speaker 9: Our relationship and our partnership, I think, our Lucky Stars
- 41:47Speaker 9: has been absolutely tremendous with the industry. But it's, you know,
- 41:50Speaker 9: it's easy to work with a good partner who has
- 41:52Speaker 9: a awesome vision and looks and takes the long game. Listen,
- 41:57Speaker 9: Infrastructure projects and building something takes a long time. We
- 42:03Speaker 9: don't all have magic wands. And so looking at the
- 42:08Speaker 9: success of what Andy has done, it has taken years
- 42:12Speaker 9: because that's what good things have. Listen, we can build
- 42:15Speaker 9: something tomorrow and it's not going to last. It's not
- 42:16Speaker 9: going to sustain. It'll be a house of cards. And
- 42:18Speaker 9: so looking at what types of infrastructure projects are we
- 42:22Speaker 9: focusing on and also aligning his priorities with our priorities
- 42:26Speaker 9: as well.
- 42:27Speaker 7: All right.
- 42:27Speaker 5: We're going to take a break. We'll come back. The

- 44:08Speaker 5: helping you understand your environment because what you don't know
- 44:10Speaker 5: can't hurt you. Charlton Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin is here,
- 44:12Speaker 5: and everywhere you go, Mayor, one of the top two
- 44:14Speaker 5: or three things we get, people talking about the town center.
- 44:17Speaker 5: There's a lot of online chatter. Last month, people said
- 44:21Speaker 5: that they have a cousin that works here and that
- 44:23Speaker 5: they were told this. What can you tell us?
- 44:25Speaker 9: What I can tell you this about the Charleston Town
- 44:27Speaker 9: Center Mall, and everybody knows it's a private organization. It
- 44:29Speaker 9: is not owned or run by the city. And me
- 44:31Speaker 9: coming in and taking it is like me saying to
- 44:34Speaker 9: any other independent or private business, we don't do that
- 44:37Speaker 9: in government. Government shouldn't reach in. But we have been
- 44:41Speaker 9: talking for years with the Hall Group and really trying
- 44:45Speaker 9: to either secure it as a donation or put it
- 44:48Speaker 9: in the hands of a developer or a buyer. It
- 44:51Speaker 9: is my understanding that there are discussions going on with
- 44:55Speaker 9: folks who want to purchase that mall. To keep it
- 45:00Speaker 9: a mall, I don't know that that's going to happen
- 45:03Speaker 9: in the future. But this is what we want in
- 45:05Speaker 9: the city of Charleston. If we cannot take this as
- 45:07Speaker 9: a donation to.
- 45:11Speaker 9: Put it in the hands of developers to move forward,
- 45:14Speaker 9: then we wanna see it sold. We wanna see it
- 45:16Speaker 9: put in the hands of folks who are going to
- 45:19Speaker 9: do something with it because the egg timer is up.
- 45:22Speaker 9: Not only are just the businesses that are there, but
- 45:24Speaker 9: it's the future of West Virginia, especially in Southern West Virginia,
- 45:27Speaker 9: because listen, we spent a lot of time in the
- 45:29Speaker 9: 70s and 80s creating one of the largest malls in
- 45:33Speaker 9: the country. Now it is time to refresh and move forward.
- 45:37Speaker 9: And it is my direct knowledge that there are people
- 45:41Speaker 9: who are, looking at and building plans to possibly buy
- 45:45Speaker 9: the mall. That would be the very best thing for
- 45:48Speaker 9: the people in the city of Charleston, because we're talking
- 45:50Speaker 9: about infrastructure, right? It's a huge piece of infrastructure, just
- 45:54Speaker 9: like around the, and by the way, obviously it impacts downtown.
- 45:59Speaker 9: Obviously it impacts the Coliseum and Convention Center, the city's
- 46:03Speaker 9: largest capital investment. But you know, we're getting ready to welcome,
- 46:08Speaker 9: thank you, TC Energy, and there are hundreds of employees
- 46:12Speaker 9: to downtown. We just saw the beautiful new groundbreaking or
- 46:16Speaker 9: the ribbon cutting of Polka Valley Bank. Wow, fantastic. And
- 46:21Speaker 9: so now what we want to see is that piece
- 46:23Speaker 9: of property put in the hands of someone. If it's
- 46:26Speaker 9: not going to be us, then put in the hands
- 46:28Speaker 9: of somebody who is going to do the right thing because,
- 46:31Speaker 9: and again, people want it done tomorrow. This is, it
- 46:35Speaker 9: took them decades. to figure out what they were gonna
- 46:38Speaker 9: do with that piece of property and building them all.
- 46:41Speaker 9: And I would imagine it is going to be five,
- 46:44Speaker 9: nobody wants to hear this, it's gonna be five to
- 46:46Speaker 9: 10 years to truly fully develop that area, hopefully closer
- 46:51Speaker 9: to five than 10. But I know this to be true.
- 46:55Speaker 9: I have eight firehouses in the city of Charleston. I
- 46:57Speaker 9: am going to be wrapping up the renovations of six.
- 47:00Speaker 9: It takes years to do those renovations. By the way,
- 47:03Speaker 9: we're building a $ 20 million public safety center. Sometimes you
- 47:06Speaker 9: don't see the things that are happening in town. The
- 47:08Speaker 9: $ 20 million public safety center is over on Bullitt Street.
- 47:12Speaker 9: It's the old Truist Data Center. We have been working
- 47:16Speaker 9: hand in glove with our construction team to demo the
- 47:19Speaker 9: inside so it's ready to go out to bid. We
- 47:23Speaker 9: met last week for three hours. It takes years. By
- 47:26Speaker 9: the way, the Capital Connector Project, those are federal funds,
- 47:30Speaker 9: not city funds. We got those in 2021 for a
- 47:32Speaker 9: planning grant. When you take a piece of a riverfront
- 47:39Speaker 9: of a capital city and say, okay, we're going to
- 47:41Speaker 9: move all utilities, we're going to expand bike lanes, we're
- 47:43Speaker 9: going to make it walkable, we're going to make it lit,
- 47:45Speaker 9: we're going to make it safe. And by the way,
- 47:48Speaker 9: when you have partners like the state and the federal government,
- 47:50Speaker 9: it takes a while. But good, good projects and good
- 47:54Speaker 9: development takes a long time to do. And so hopefully,
- 47:58Speaker 9: and by the way, the bids for the Capital Connector
- 48:01Speaker 9: are actually going out today. So that's the good news.
- 48:05Speaker 9: But then, you know, come with it, just like the bridge,
- 48:09Speaker 9: like the Eugene Carter Memorial Bridge. Yes, there is going
- 48:13Speaker 9: to be massive construction, which also means, Dave, there are
- 48:16Speaker 9: going to be delays. And just like the Capitol Connector,
- 48:19Speaker 9: it's going to be a game changer for this riverfront city.
- 48:24Speaker 9: It's going to be an inconvenience because we are going
- 48:27Speaker 9: to have to shut down parts of the boulevard during
- 48:30Speaker 9: this 18-month construction period to do that massive from Magic
- 48:36Speaker 9: Island to the 35th Street Bridge and up Greenbrier as well.
- 48:40Speaker 5: Since we talked last, we have a new city council person.
- 48:44Speaker 5: In Charleston, you reminded me of that this morning.
- 48:45Speaker 9: We do, wonderful. Jessica Hudson, well, let me first start
- 48:50Speaker 9: by saying, Pam Berka, just like her husband, have done
- 48:54Speaker 9: an amazing job in the city of Charleston, in particular,
- 48:56Speaker 9: Kanawha City, Dave, and you know this. Their spirit, their
- 49:00Speaker 9: energy that they put into Kanawha City has been monumental.
- 49:04Speaker 9: And so while we understood and appreciated that she needed
- 49:08Speaker 9: to step back, what I felt is that We needed
- 49:13Speaker 9: somebody who's not on the ticket, who's not running. And
- 49:15Speaker 9: of course, state legislature changed the way that you appoint
- 49:18Speaker 9: people now. It has to be the party. Because if
- 49:20Speaker 9: you recall, Sam Minardi, who was in Ward 15 when
- 49:24Speaker 9: he exited out, who was a Democrat, I appointed Harper Gardner,
- 49:28Speaker 9: who's a Republican.
- 49:30Speaker 6: Why?
- 49:30Speaker 9: Because he was a good candidate and he ran and
- 49:33Speaker 9: he's engaged and involved and shows up. Well, you can't
- 49:36Speaker 9: do that any longer. You have to pick from the
- 49:37Speaker 9: same party, which I don't. don't like because I feel
- 49:41Speaker 9: like in municipal government, nobody talks about Democrats or Republican.
- 49:45Speaker 9: It really should be a nonpartisan race.
- 49:47Speaker 7: I digress.
- 49:48Speaker 9: Jessica Hudson is the new councilwoman for Ward 18. She's
- 49:52Speaker 9: done an amazing job. She has a financial background. She
- 49:56Speaker 9: really has no interest in running, but she does have
- 49:59Speaker 9: an interest in that community. She's lived there with her
- 50:03Speaker 9: husband and her children. She's worked for the Girl Scouts.
- 50:05Speaker 9: They go to the pool over there. and she has
- 50:08Speaker 9: really invested in this community. And so this will be
- 50:12Speaker 9: her second meeting tonight and already engaged, involved, asking questions.
- 50:17Speaker 9: And that's really what you want out of your representative.
- 50:20Speaker 5: All right. So as we close with Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler,
- 50:23Speaker 5: we did have a text. Somebody asked about anything new
- 50:25Speaker 5: on the Municipal Auditorium.
- 50:26Speaker 9: Municipal Auditorium, I know that the Coliseum and Convention Center
- 50:31Speaker 9: Board of Directors are still discussing it and what their
- 50:34Speaker 9: options are. And then they will present to City Council
- 50:38Speaker 9: at a time of what they think is the best, um,
- 50:40Speaker 9: as the best man for it. Of course it has
- 50:41Speaker 9: to come to city council, has to come to city
- 50:43Speaker 9: council before we do anything on that building.
- 50:46Speaker 5: It's been an exciting, uh, summer here in Charleston. I
- 50:49Speaker 5: know fall is going to be just that. And we
- 50:50Speaker 5: got so many big events that are going to be
- 50:52Speaker 5: going on. I know we'll be talking about light the
- 50:54Speaker 5: night over at the ballpark here real soon. Jolly Jolly
- 50:56Speaker 5: Jolly Jolly, uh, trick or beat. That's one of your
- 50:59Speaker 5: favorite events coming up here in a couple of weeks.
- 51:01Speaker 9: It's going to be great. Somebody said that you, you
- 51:03Speaker 9: take a little, you take a little break and then
- 51:05Speaker 9: move forward. Um, I'm a member of the National League
- 51:10Speaker 9: of Cities and I'm getting ready to next month take
- 51:12Speaker 9: over as the president of the Women in Municipal Government
- 51:15Speaker 9: for this national organization. And they said, what are some
- 51:18Speaker 9: good dates and times? I'm sure the fall and winter
- 51:21Speaker 9: may be a little bit easier. And I said, it
- 51:23Speaker 9: actually isn't. And especially with Holly Jolly Brawley and, of course,
- 51:26Speaker 9: our Christmas parade and Light the Night. Again, I'm going
- 51:30Speaker 9: to end where we started, which is quality of life.
- 51:32Speaker 9: That's what people want in the city of Charleston. What
- 51:35Speaker 9: can I get here and what can I do for free?
- 51:37Speaker 9: Holly Jolly Brawley, by the way, is a prime example
- 51:39Speaker 9: of that.
- 51:40Speaker 11: All right.
- 51:41Speaker 5: Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, appreciate you being here with
- 51:44Speaker 5: us today. Thanks a lot. All right. I'll be back
- 51:47Speaker 5: to do this show tomorrow. Hopefully the voice will hold out.
- 51:50Speaker 5: Coming up on the show tomorrow, and speaking of big
- 51:52Speaker 5: events in Charleston, preparing for the football championships. It's already time. Well,
- 51:56Speaker 5: they never stopped preparing for that. Mike Arbogast. He's going
- 51:59Speaker 5: to join us to talk about that coming up on
- 52:00Speaker 5: tomorrow's show. Also, Jermon Schmidt from Goodwill will be on
- 52:03Speaker 5: the show tomorrow as well. I'll be back later today
- 52:05Speaker 5: with Metro News at midday with Amanda Barron and me.
- 52:08Speaker 5: Lots to talk about. Mayor Patrick Farrell will be on
- 52:10Speaker 5: the show today, amongst other folks. Senior producer Ryan Nicholson,
- 52:14Speaker 5: thank you so much. I will see you later today.
- 52:15Speaker 5: Until then, have fun and love somebody.
- 52:33Speaker 1: 5-8-E-W-C-H-S-A-M. 96.5 FM Charleston. 104.5 Cross Lane. A WVRC media station.
