- 0:00Speaker 2: The Mark Simone Show.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Nine till noon weekdays.
- 0:04Speaker 2: For Mark.
- 0:07Speaker 3: 710WOR.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Well, it's the final Friday of summer. Autumn begins on Wednesday.
- 0:18Speaker 2: So it should be a great weekend. It's not going
- 0:21Speaker 2: to be warm. It's going to be like the high
- 0:22Speaker 2: will be 70 tomorrow and on Sunday. But you've got
- 0:26Speaker 2: a lot to get to today. Mayor Mamdani. They put
- 0:29Speaker 2: out a big announcement. It has his full name on it.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Do you know what his middle name is? Did you
- 0:34Speaker 2: know this? It says Mayor Zoran Kwame Mamdani. Zoran Kwame Mamdani.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I've never heard him use this middle name before, but
- 0:44Speaker 2: he's using it in the announcement. And the New York
- 0:47Speaker 2: City Department of Transportation, Commissioner Mike Flynn, today unveiled, well,
- 0:51Speaker 2: they want to redo Park Avenue.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Hey.
- 0:56Speaker 2: They want to completely screw up Park Avenue from 46th
- 1:00Speaker 2: Street to 57th Street. In other words, from Grand Central
- 1:03Speaker 2: Station all the way up to 57th. Picture Park Avenue.
- 1:07Speaker 2: It's traffic on both sides. In the middle is a
- 1:11Speaker 2: median with grass on it and trees and a little
- 1:15Speaker 2: park on it. That's why they call it Park Avenue.
- 1:17Speaker 2: It's very nice. I have walked up and down Park
- 1:21Speaker 2: Avenue 50 billion times. Never once, ever, ever, ever. Did
- 1:26Speaker 2: I ever see anybody on the grass on that median,
- 1:29Speaker 2: sitting down, lying down?
- 1:31Speaker 1: Never.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Why would you sit there? You could go to Central Park,
- 1:34Speaker 2: where it's a very nice park. If you were to
- 1:36Speaker 2: sit on Park Avenue or lie down there in the sun,
- 1:40Speaker 2: all you'd hear is traffic on both sides of you.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And Park Avenue, between 46th and 57th, as you know,
- 1:46Speaker 2: is just packed. It's bumper to bumper. It's crazy. So
- 1:51Speaker 2: the Mamdani plan is they'll take that little park median
- 1:54Speaker 2: in the middle and expand it. In other words, they'll
- 1:58Speaker 2: take away half the lanes on Park Avenue. It's like,
- 2:01Speaker 2: what is it, three lanes on each side? They'll cut
- 2:04Speaker 2: that down to two lanes. It's already bumper to bumper
- 2:08Speaker 2: on Park Avenue. This is going to make it even worse.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It's going to screw up everything. And they'll put in
- 2:13Speaker 2: a big, big grass median. in the middle, so big
- 2:19Speaker 2: that it'll have a sidewalk in the middle of the grass.
- 2:23Speaker 2: There's a sidewalk on either side of Park Avenue. We
- 2:25Speaker 2: really don't need this third sidewalk. It's absolutely idiotic, absolutely insane.
- 2:32Speaker 2: It's going to cost a fortune. It's a total waste
- 2:36Speaker 2: of money. And not only is it a big, big, big,
- 2:40Speaker 2: wide grass medium in the middle, but it curves a little.
- 2:44Speaker 2: So there'll be choke points where At some points, Park
- 2:48Speaker 2: Avenue is down to one lane. Do you know what
- 2:49Speaker 2: that's going to do to traffic? It will basically eliminate
- 2:53Speaker 2: Park Avenue for traffic because nobody's going to want to
- 2:57Speaker 2: use it. They're going to stick to Lexington or Madison
- 3:00Speaker 2: or whatever. So it's going to be screwing up all
- 3:03Speaker 2: the other streets. This is an absolute disaster. Now, you're saying, well,
- 3:08Speaker 2: why would they do it if it's going to completely
- 3:10Speaker 2: destroy traffic and make a mess and screw up every
- 3:13Speaker 2: car in Manhattan? Well, that's the reason. They don't want
- 3:16Speaker 2: you driving anymore. It's the war on cars. It continues
- 3:20Speaker 2: with this crazy mayor. Now, the only good news is, luckily,
- 3:26Speaker 2: this mayor has no experience. He's never had a job
- 3:28Speaker 2: in his life. And he could never seem to actually
- 3:31Speaker 2: execute anything. So they put out the plans. They go
- 3:34Speaker 2: before Manhattan Community Board 6. But remember, they never, ever, ever, ever,
- 3:41Speaker 2: ever actually get anything done. So, Let's hope this never
- 3:45Speaker 2: gets done. This will be an absolute disaster. Hey, once again,
- 3:50Speaker 2: it's UN week. The UN General Assembly is already on,
- 3:53Speaker 2: but the world leaders all come next week. So it's
- 3:55Speaker 2: going to be a big traffic nightmare. I don't know
- 3:57Speaker 2: which day President Trump comes, but he'll come one day.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And that will completely screw everything up. Fake news is
- 4:04Speaker 2: all over the place here. Pete Hegseth. They're going after
- 4:07Speaker 2: Pete Hegseth. He's doing a big speech, and he's demanding
- 4:12Speaker 2: that the troops... next to him at the speech and
- 4:15Speaker 2: behind him, be impeccably groomed. He's demanding impeccable grooming. They're
- 4:22Speaker 2: going after Pete Hegseth for this. He is seeking fit,
- 4:26Speaker 2: well-groomed troops to attend his State of the Forces address.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Everything I've ever seen of the military... You're supposed to
- 4:36Speaker 2: be well-groomed. Doesn't the sergeant walk along and fix that collar?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Comb your hair. I think that's part of the military.
- 4:43Speaker 2: You've got to be well-groomed. And fit? I would assume
- 4:47Speaker 2: every one of our troops are fit. I think that's
- 4:49Speaker 2: the idea of the military, fit and well-groomed. I think
- 4:51Speaker 2: you're supposed to be that way. But what are they
- 4:54Speaker 2: trying to claim? That he's deliberately staging who's behind him?
- 4:58Speaker 2: I hate to break it to you. That's every politician.
- 5:01Speaker 2: That's every political rally. They do that all the time.
- 5:05Speaker 2: That's always done. If you're, you know, they all do it.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Donald Trump, everybody, they all do it. You know, Trump rallies,
- 5:14Speaker 2: they were always careful to put minorities behind him, lots
- 5:17Speaker 2: of minority faces behind him because they thought that might help.
- 5:21Speaker 2: If a guy wasn't great with the female vote, when
- 5:24Speaker 2: he did a rally, they put all women behind him.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Whatever you need, you put it. It's always done that way.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Perfectly normal. Hey, this Kennedy Center controversy, President Trump, now
- 5:36Speaker 2: he sounds childish when he says, well, if I can't
- 5:39Speaker 2: have my name on the building, we might tear it down.
- 5:43Speaker 2: It sounds very childish, but I've heard him explain this
- 5:45Speaker 2: at length. He has sort of a point. Whenever a
- 5:51Speaker 2: place is in disrepair, whenever a great cultural institution needs
- 5:54Speaker 2: to be repaired, fixed, it's usually the private sector, Carnegie
- 5:59Speaker 2: Hall or wherever. Usually a billionaire donates the money to
- 6:04Speaker 2: fix it, and then they name the thing for him.
- 6:07Speaker 2: If you go to Carnegie Hall, they have the Stern Auditorium.
- 6:11Speaker 2: That's Leonard Stern. They have the main hall is the
- 6:14Speaker 2: Perlman Stage. That's Ron Perlman. Wherever you go, you go
- 6:19Speaker 2: to cultural institutions, you go to the museum, the Tisch
- 6:23Speaker 2: Wing of the museum, because they spent the money to
- 6:27Speaker 2: pay for the whole thing and fix it up. So
- 6:29Speaker 2: Trump has a point there. If he's going to be
- 6:31Speaker 2: the one, he's going to put in the money, and
- 6:34Speaker 2: he's the one that fixes it. It's tradition that you
- 6:37Speaker 2: get your name somewhere on the building. You don't change
- 6:40Speaker 2: the name of Carnegie Hall, but you name the stage
- 6:43Speaker 2: after the guy, something. So he's not saying take the
- 6:46Speaker 2: name Kennedy Center off. He's just saying put his name
- 6:48Speaker 2: somewhere in the building.
- 6:49Speaker 1: So he's right.
- 6:50Speaker 2: That's typically done. But this is different. It's a public building.
- 6:56Speaker 2: It's a government-run building. So I don't know.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Reporters asked him about it.
- 7:04Speaker 3: For the Trump administration, for me to get involved and
- 7:08Speaker 3: to take that on long term and to carry it
- 7:11Speaker 3: or to raise money to carry it. I think that
- 7:14Speaker 3: the Trump administration should certainly have recognition, because frankly, if
- 7:19Speaker 3: we don't do that, it's going to close.
- 7:22Speaker 1: It'll end up being ripped down. It's in very, very
- 7:24Speaker 1: bad shape.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. I mean, maybe he's been a
- 7:28Speaker 2: little childish, but he's got a point there. So if
- 7:31Speaker 2: he does nothing, the building will collapse at some point. Apparently,
- 7:34Speaker 2: it's in total disrepair, been neglected for years. And it's
- 7:39Speaker 2: government that's been running it and doing the construction. Apparently,
- 7:43Speaker 2: they've done it all wrong through the years. Pipes are
- 7:45Speaker 2: all mismatched, and they've had tremendous water intrusion, which is
- 7:50Speaker 2: making the building crumble. That's why two weeks ago, big
- 7:53Speaker 2: chunk of the ceiling just caved in, just fell down.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Right over the lobby, that's usually where everybody's waiting. Luckily,
- 7:59Speaker 2: it was, you know, the weekend, the place was closed,
- 8:03Speaker 2: but had that fallen when the place was open, a
- 8:05Speaker 2: lot of people would have been injured or killed with
- 8:08Speaker 2: all that ceiling falling on them. So, pretty, pretty, pretty
- 8:11Speaker 2: bad stuff. Hey, that Macklemore, who was Ed Sheeran's opening act,
- 8:17Speaker 2: making all kinds of stink and noise and everything, but
- 8:21Speaker 2: Robert Kraft and all the, it wasn't just Kraft. It
- 8:24Speaker 2: was a bunch of owners of stadiums that didn't want
- 8:27Speaker 2: this anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, awful McLemore appearing in their place. Hey,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and if you own the venue, of course you can
- 8:35Speaker 2: decide who appears there. You know, if Nazis wanted to
- 8:40Speaker 2: rent your venue, of course you can say no to them.
- 8:43Speaker 2: And if Ed Sheeran wants to rent it, great. But
- 8:46Speaker 2: if he's going to have McLemore, you can say no,
- 8:48Speaker 2: perfectly fine. Macklemore huffing and puffing and yelling and screaming.
- 8:51Speaker 2: But listen to John Fetterman, who's usually the voice of reason.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Listen to Fetterman on Macklemore.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Doesn't that guy get the irony of saying and doing
- 9:01Speaker 4: that at a musical festival when 10-7 started, when Hamas
- 9:07Speaker 4: showed up to kill people during a concert at Nova?
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, good point. The Hamas holocaust. The genocide that Hamas committed,
- 9:16Speaker 2: the rape, murder, mutilation, robbery, killing babies, was during a
- 9:21Speaker 2: music festival. So it is pretty ironic. Hey, here's a story.
- 9:27Speaker 2: You will not hear this reported anywhere. Nobody will. You'll
- 9:30Speaker 2: never see this in the New York Times. You will
- 9:32Speaker 2: never see this on the network news. But numbers revealed.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Americans are now richer than ever. Household income has hit
- 9:42Speaker 2: a record high. Absolute record high, and over the last
- 9:46Speaker 2: year and a half, the poverty rate fell to its
- 9:50Speaker 2: lowest level ever. This is according to U.S. Census data.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Real median income is up 3% year to year, highest ever.
- 10:00Speaker 2: This is inflation adjusted, by the way. The highest ever.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Americans are richer than ever. Household income higher than ever.
- 10:09Speaker 2: And the poverty rate fell to the lowest percentage ever.
- 10:14Speaker 2: It's 10.2%. Lowest ever. Highest income ever in America. Lowest
- 10:20Speaker 2: poverty rate ever in America. Pretty good news. So Michigan
- 10:25Speaker 2: has got this crazy Abdul El-Sayed running. Democratic socialist friends
- 10:32Speaker 2: with the lowest, most vile anti-Semite, Hassan Piker. Morning Joe
- 10:39Speaker 2: having El-Sayed on for a whole half hour trying to
- 10:42Speaker 2: push him over the finish line. It's a big thing
- 10:45Speaker 2: for Elsa. I had to go do that morning, Joe,
- 10:47Speaker 2: why that could be two, 300,000 viewers, uh, in Michigan,
- 10:53Speaker 2: probably a 3000 viewers that morning, Joe mostly watched in
- 10:57Speaker 2: New York, Los Angeles and Washington, DC middle of America,
- 11:00Speaker 2: almost no viewership, but, uh, Chuck Schumer and his, uh,
- 11:04Speaker 2: super PAC. He runs that Senate super PAC. Uh, Chuck
- 11:08Speaker 2: Schumer is doubling down on, uh, Hassan, uh, no, not
- 11:13Speaker 2: Hassan Piker, Abdul El-Sayed, also a little anti-Semitic, but Schumer
- 11:19Speaker 2: is going to go in there and spend an additional
- 11:20Speaker 2: 10 million in the Michigan Senate race. You see the
- 11:23Speaker 2: key to this, it's an open seat. It's an open seat. Uh,
- 11:29Speaker 2: it had been held by the Democrats, but the guy retired.
- 11:32Speaker 2: So if the Republicans take Michigan, which they most likely will, uh,
- 11:38Speaker 2: then that's the key to the Senate. Republicans take Michigan,
- 11:40Speaker 2: they win the Senate. So Democrats going crazy here. They're
- 11:44Speaker 2: going to go spend $ 10 million there. Now remember, the
- 11:46Speaker 2: Democrats don't have much money. The DNC has very little money.
- 11:51Speaker 2: The RNC has been fundraising like crazy, has a $ 200
- 11:55Speaker 2: million war chest. So they can go in there and
- 11:59Speaker 2: they can do all sorts of stuff. So figure Mike
- 12:02Speaker 2: Rogers eventually wins a new poll. 71% think Trump administration
- 12:09Speaker 2: lacks plan to end the Iran war. There's a bad
- 12:15Speaker 2: part to this poll. Also in the poll, support to
- 12:18Speaker 2: Israel drops to record low.
- 12:20Speaker 1: That's terrible.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Well, does he have a plan to end the, you
- 12:23Speaker 2: don't really need a plan to end the Iran war.
- 12:25Speaker 2: You can end it whenever you want. Just go in
- 12:27Speaker 2: and wipe them out. He just, I don't know. It
- 12:31Speaker 2: could be he doesn't have the nerve to do it.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Doesn't want to do it. Doesn't, want to see all
- 12:36Speaker 2: that death. I don't know. Could be he's waiting until
- 12:38Speaker 2: after the election to do something. Americans don't understand why
- 12:43Speaker 2: we went in. Well, the reason, it's pretty simple, and
- 12:46Speaker 2: he's explained that dozens of times, as has everybody else,
- 12:50Speaker 2: explained this over and over again. They don't want Iran
- 12:53Speaker 2: to have a nuclear weapon. The thinking is that once
- 12:57Speaker 2: they have a nuclear weapon, it would be impossible to
- 13:00Speaker 2: go to war with them. There's no way you could
- 13:02Speaker 2: go in there and ever go to war with Iran
- 13:05Speaker 2: if they have a nuclear weapon because they are lunatics
- 13:08Speaker 2: and they would use it. So you got to make
- 13:11Speaker 2: sure you do it before they have a nuclear weapon.
- 13:13Speaker 2: So the reason we went in there, they had some uranium.
- 13:16Speaker 2: They were enriching it. They claimed for commercial use, electricity, energy,
- 13:20Speaker 2: that sort of stuff. But commercial use, you enrich it
- 13:24Speaker 2: to 20%. Well, next thing you know, they enriched it
- 13:27Speaker 2: to 40%. If you get to 90%, you got a
- 13:31Speaker 2: nuclear weapon.
- 13:31Speaker 1: 90% is.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Nuclear weapon.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Well, then they kept enriching, enriching, and they got it
- 13:38Speaker 2: to 60%. 60% was two weeks away from 90%. So
- 13:43Speaker 2: that's why we went in when we did and took
- 13:45Speaker 2: out the reactors and all that. There were two weeks
- 13:48Speaker 2: away from having 90%, which would have been the weapon. Hey,
- 13:51Speaker 2: remember that passenger that was duct taped on the airplane?
- 13:56Speaker 2: He was yelling and screaming, caused a tirade, yelling all
- 13:59Speaker 2: the most disgusting stuff. And there were a bunch of
- 14:02Speaker 2: guys on the plane that had to restrain him. And
- 14:04Speaker 2: they got duct tape and they tied them all up,
- 14:06Speaker 2: duct taped him up, duct taped him up. Plane made
- 14:10Speaker 2: an emergency landing. They had to arrest the guy. He's
- 14:12Speaker 2: finally spoken out. And he claims he was drunk. But
- 14:17Speaker 2: they chatted. All he had was two orange juice and
- 14:21Speaker 2: vodka cocktails. Orange juice and vodka. Two of them. Could
- 14:25Speaker 2: two make you that crazy? I don't think so. The
- 14:29Speaker 2: guy in the next seat said he was talking to him.
- 14:33Speaker 2: They were casually chatting when suddenly he snapped. It was
- 14:37Speaker 2: over religion. The topic turned to religion. You're sitting on
- 14:40Speaker 2: a plane next to a guy. Who the hell talks
- 14:41Speaker 2: about religion? First of all, who even talks to the
- 14:44Speaker 2: person next to you? Even if you talk to the
- 14:48Speaker 2: guy next to you, where are you going? What are
- 14:49Speaker 2: you going to Chicago for?
- 14:50Speaker 1: Oh, I'm going.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Why would you even be talking about religion? But he said,
- 14:53Speaker 2: the guy just snapped. He said, I've never seen someone
- 14:57Speaker 2: change in a split second like that. Well, So it
- 15:01Speaker 2: can't be the alcohol. It's got to be that he
- 15:02Speaker 2: was just, the guy's just a lunatic.
- 15:04Speaker 1: He was a.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Real estate agent. Oh, there you go.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Case closed. Lunatic.
- 15:11Speaker 2: No, I know a lot of good real estate agents. No,
- 15:13Speaker 2: apparently he's been fired. He lost his job over this.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I would hope so. He was hollering profanities, racial slurs,
- 15:22Speaker 2: terrible stuff about Jesus and God. Arizona real, you know, see, Arizona.
- 15:27Speaker 2: The heat, it gets to you after a while. Hey,
- 15:29Speaker 2: we'll take some calls next, 800-321-0710 is the number. Call
- 15:34Speaker 2: me right now, especially if you're a new caller. We
- 15:36Speaker 2: like lots of new callers.
- 15:37Speaker 1: 800-321-0710.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Hey, it's Mark Simone here, 710WOR. Let's take some calls.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Let's go to Jennifer in Paramus. Jennifer, how are you doing?
- 15:56Speaker 6: Hey, Mark, first time caller. I just wanted to add
- 15:58Speaker 6: to your story about the guy in the plane. I
- 16:01Speaker 6: heard the guy who was sitting next to him is
- 16:03Speaker 6: an author of a religious book. He had the book out.
- 16:06Speaker 6: It just came out. He did a whole interview and
- 16:09Speaker 6: the guy did flip out over the religion conversation and
- 16:14Speaker 6: the fact that he just wrote a book. He has
- 16:15Speaker 6: many books, this guy. I heard about an interview.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Really?
- 16:19Speaker 2: So when you're sitting on a plane, you don't talk
- 16:22Speaker 2: to the person next to you, do you?
- 16:24Speaker 6: God, no.
- 16:25Speaker 2: No, that's what they make headphones for. They pretend you're
- 16:28Speaker 2: listening to something.
- 16:30Speaker 6: I'd rather sit next to a golden retriever.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Absolutely. And where are you in New Jersey? Oh, Paramus.
- 16:36Speaker 6: Paramus.
- 16:37Speaker 2: All right. Very good, Jennifer. Thanks for calling. Take care.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Let's go to Cynthia in Canada. Cynthia, how are you doing?
- 16:47Speaker 7: Hi, Mark.
- 16:48Speaker 8: I'm laughing now. I'm in Canada now. I'm a New Yorker.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Oh, good. You're not one of those Canadians, are you?
- 16:57Speaker 8: Well, I was born here, but I am now an
- 17:00Speaker 8: American citizen for quite a long time. But I have
- 17:04Speaker 8: to take care of my mom in Canada. Okay, something
- 17:08Speaker 8: really funny. I just received an email from my mom's
- 17:12Speaker 8: bank manager. He ended it with, sincerely, William Chang.
- 17:22Speaker 8: He, him.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, you got to put your pronouns in there, he, him.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I assume you're a she, her, right?
- 17:32Speaker 8: Well, it was a he, him. William Chang, he, him.
- 17:36Speaker 10: Okay.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah, whenever the banker says sincerely, you're a... Sincerely and banker,
- 17:42Speaker 2: doesn't go together. All right, thanks for calling. Yeah, these
- 17:45Speaker 2: stupid pronouns everywhere. Let's go to Howard in Long Island. Howard,
- 17:49Speaker 2: how are you doing?
- 17:51Speaker 9: Hi, how are you? Good. First-time caller.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I can tell.
- 17:54Speaker 9: I'll tell you why I'm calling. Yes. You know, you
- 17:57Speaker 9: talk about the Abdul El-Sayed and everything like that.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:00Speaker 9: There is information about his mother, that his mother worked
- 18:03Speaker 9: for fundraising and everything for Al-Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah. No one
- 18:08Speaker 9: ever brings that out to the newsrooms, and I don't
- 18:11Speaker 9: know why. I think that's kind of important for someone
- 18:14Speaker 9: that could hold a seat in the Washington, D.C.
- 18:16Speaker 10: Senate.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Very good point. We'll look into it. All right, I'll
- 18:21Speaker 2: look into that. I'll check it out. Let's go to
- 18:26Speaker 2: Teddy and Nutley. Teddy, how are you doing?
- 18:29Speaker 10: I'm doing great. I have a scoop for you on
- 18:34Speaker 10: the guy in the airplane who attacked, okay?
- 18:37Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 18:39Speaker 10: The man he attacked was a pastor. A friend of
- 18:42Speaker 10: mine used to attend his services down in the Florida area.
- 18:45Speaker 10: He was on his laptop looking at doing his work.
- 18:51Speaker 10: The man engaged him in a conversation. It was very pleasant.
- 18:56Speaker 10: This is right from the pastor himself. This is from him.
- 19:00Speaker 2: As we just heard, a pastor who's written books on
- 19:04Speaker 2: religion and all that. Listen, this is what they make
- 19:06Speaker 2: headphones for. You ever see, see I have these little
- 19:08Speaker 2: Apple earbuds, but you ever see some people buy the
- 19:11Speaker 2: big Apple ones, those big, big, big, big headphones and
- 19:16Speaker 2: And you say, well, why would you want to have
- 19:17Speaker 2: those big, heavy headphones? This is what it's for, for
- 19:22Speaker 2: air travel. Put the big ones over your ears so
- 19:26Speaker 2: when anybody looks at you, they know you can't hear them.
- 19:28Speaker 2: They don't even try to talk to you.
- 19:30Speaker 9: Perfect.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Let's go to Brad in White Plains. Brad, how you doing?
- 19:36Speaker 11: Morning, Mark.
- 19:36Speaker 8: Love the program.
- 19:37Speaker 11: I know it's not good for you, but I'm so
- 19:39Speaker 11: happy you come.
- 19:40Speaker 2: On at night.
- 19:42Speaker 11: Real quickly, Miranda Vines called the other day about the
- 19:47Speaker 11: assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania.
- 19:49Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 11: You give me your thoughts on how or what kind
- 19:53Speaker 11: of cover up we got going here? Because they mentioned
- 19:56Speaker 11: that a shooter's body was cremated by somebody anonymously paying
- 20:01Speaker 11: for it.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yeah, the whole thing is very suspicious. Good point, Brad.
- 20:05Speaker 2: You know, whenever there's an assassination, whether it's Lee Harvey Oswald,
- 20:08Speaker 2: from that moment on, all you do is read profiles, articles.
- 20:11Speaker 2: They dig into the background. Here's the history of Lee
- 20:13Speaker 2: Harvey Oswald. Here's his wife, Marina Oswald. Here's an interview
- 20:16Speaker 2: with his mother. There's a 60 Minutes piece. Who is
- 20:19Speaker 2: this guy? They go through the whole. This was the
- 20:21Speaker 2: first assassination where, shh, no, nothing, nothing. Nobody wants to
- 20:26Speaker 2: look at him. Nobody wants to know who put him there,
- 20:28Speaker 2: where he came from. Trump administration now going through the
- 20:33Speaker 2: FBI hidden files to see what they can find. There
- 20:37Speaker 2: are some FBI files showing the kid was obviously crazy
- 20:41Speaker 2: from birth, totally emotionless, became fascinated with rifles and guns,
- 20:46Speaker 2: trained himself to be a sharpshooter. But the fact that
- 20:51Speaker 2: there was no news organization ever that wanted to look
- 20:55Speaker 2: at who the assassin was, wanted to do anything, investigate anything, Fascinating.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Go check Miranda Devine's column. You'll see. Let's go to
- 21:04Speaker 2: Vincent in Brooklyn. Vincent, how you doing?
- 21:06Speaker 1: Good morning, Mark.
- 21:07Speaker 7: Mark, you said the magical words that the other day
- 21:10Speaker 7: it was reported that the kid was emotionalistic and cried.
- 21:14Speaker 7: He made, whoever got to this kid, he made the
- 21:18Speaker 7: perfect Manchurian candidate. Everybody should look at that movie with Sinatra,
- 21:23Speaker 7: if I'm not mistaken.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Right, Mark?
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's about recruiting some lunatic to be your assassin.
- 21:30Speaker 10: Exactly.
- 21:31Speaker 7: Mark, I heard you speak about the city's latest bonehead
- 21:35Speaker 7: idea of destroying beautiful Park Avenue. Well, given the fact
- 21:40Speaker 7: that so many wealthy people live on Park Avenue, I
- 21:44Speaker 7: hope they pool all their money and get the best
- 21:48Speaker 7: lawyer and sue the city to stop that.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, but here's the problem. They're doing the section
- 21:53Speaker 2: of Park Avenue where nobody lives. It's all office buildings.
- 21:56Speaker 2: It's all corporations.
- 21:58Speaker 7: Yeah, you have all the homeless people sleeping in the
- 22:00Speaker 7: middle of the median over there. You have every bum
- 22:04Speaker 7: in the city setting up a homeless camp.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 22:07Speaker 2: It'll be a homeless camp.
- 22:08Speaker 7: Mark, you probably heard another boneheaded idea that the transit
- 22:13Speaker 7: authority wants to do. They want to put green spaces
- 22:17Speaker 7: on top of the bus kiosks. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, that's got
- 22:22Speaker 7: to be the dumbest thing in the world because that's
- 22:25Speaker 7: a lawsuit waiting to happen. What happens when a flower
- 22:30Speaker 7: pot or a window box on top of these stupid
- 22:33Speaker 7: kiosks falls down, hits a pedestrian, hits somebody going on
- 22:38Speaker 7: the bus? Gee, or maybe somebody will even go over there, hint, hint, hint,
- 22:44Speaker 7: and feign.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Good point, Vincent.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Excellent call. Yeah, excellent.
- 22:49Speaker 2: So, yeah, that part of Park Avenue they want to
- 22:50Speaker 2: screw up. It's all office buildings, all big corporations. Problem
- 22:54Speaker 2: is it's tough for them to sue the city because
- 22:56Speaker 2: they need to do business with the city all the time. Hey,
- 22:59Speaker 2: when we come back, the great entertainment reporter, Roger Friedman,
- 23:03Speaker 2: lots to talk to him about next. On 710WOR.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Marks them all. Mr.
- 23:09Speaker 7: New York.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Now three hours every weekday from 9 till noon.
- 23:14Speaker 9: On 710WOR.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Well, Roger Friedman, the great entertainment reporter. You can check
- 23:20Speaker 2: out his website. A lot of great stories there. Showbiz411. com. Showbiz411. com.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Roger Friedman, how you doing?
- 23:31Speaker 1: I'm great. Good morning. How are you? Good.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Hey, Ed Sheeran, gotta be the nicest guy in the
- 23:37Speaker 2: music business. What the hell is he doing with Macklemore
- 23:40Speaker 2: as an opening act?
- 23:42Speaker 1: Well, he didn't pick Macklemore.
- 23:44Speaker 5: The promoter of the tour picked Macklemore and picked a
- 23:50Speaker 5: few other people to go on the bill. And I
- 23:55Speaker 5: don't think that Ed Sheeran really understood what was going on.
- 23:59Speaker 5: Macklemore really had his only hits about in 2011 and 2012.
- 24:05Speaker 5: It's a long, long time ago. And more recently, I mean,
- 24:09Speaker 5: he had no career at all. And more recently, he
- 24:13Speaker 5: kind of revived himself by turning into this free Palestine guy.
- 24:18Speaker 5: And he became very vehemently anti-Israel. And we didn't really
- 24:26Speaker 5: hear about it because it really sort of reached New York.
- 24:28Speaker 1: It wasn't a big deal. He lives in Seattle.
- 24:31Speaker 5: And, you know, nobody really cared about him. But then
- 24:33Speaker 5: he played two shows with Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium,
- 24:39Speaker 5: and suddenly everyone knew about it, because when you come
- 24:43Speaker 5: to New York, you know, that's the stage for everything.
- 24:47Speaker 5: And Ed Sheeran was smart. He said, the promoter said,
- 24:52Speaker 5: this is not going to work out. He cannot go
- 24:54Speaker 5: on to do eight more shows at stadiums. These stadiums
- 24:59Speaker 5: are 60,000, 70,000 people. It's not like, you know, just
- 25:02Speaker 5: even Madison Square Garden.
- 25:04Speaker 1: They're huge. They're huge.
- 25:06Speaker 5: And you're going to have such a big part of
- 25:09Speaker 5: the audience offended by walking into a political rally that
- 25:14Speaker 5: they didn't expect. Now, it's not like Macklemore can't have
- 25:18Speaker 5: his point of view. He can, but he has to
- 25:20Speaker 5: do it. He has to tell people that's what it's
- 25:22Speaker 5: going to be when.
- 25:24Speaker 1: They come to the show.
- 25:25Speaker 5: And his host was Ed Sheeran, and he wasn't really
- 25:29Speaker 5: respecting his host. So now it's very interesting what's happened,
- 25:34Speaker 5: isn't it? Robert Kraft, who owns Gillette Stadium, where the
- 25:40Speaker 5: Patriots play, said, well, you can't come to my stadium
- 25:43Speaker 5: that way. And he got the other NFL owners to
- 25:47Speaker 5: say the same thing about their stadiums. So, of course,
- 25:51Speaker 5: McLemore was dropped from the tour. Now everyone's shouting, oh,
- 25:55Speaker 5: freedom of speech, all this. This is ridiculous. If Macklemore
- 25:58Speaker 5: wants to have his own concerts, I'm sure he has
- 26:01Speaker 5: plenty of places where he can have them. And people
- 26:04Speaker 5: will come, and if they agree with him, that's great.
- 26:07Speaker 5: But this was a wrong look for Ed Sheeran. And
- 26:10Speaker 5: I feel bad for Ed Sheeran that he's getting blamed
- 26:13Speaker 5: for this now.
- 26:15Speaker 1: He shouldn't be.
- 26:17Speaker 5: It's a big mistake because he's a nice guy, and
- 26:20Speaker 5: I don't think he doesn't agree with any of this. Um,
- 26:24Speaker 5: of course now he and Robert Kraft are each giving
- 26:27Speaker 5: $ 2 million to, uh, Gaza relief, which is a good thing.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Gaza relief is a good thing. Nobody disagreed with that. And, uh,
- 26:36Speaker 5: and Macklemore is giving a million dollars to Gaza relief.
- 26:39Speaker 5: So $ 5 million, although no one really knows what Gaza relief,
- 26:43Speaker 5: where it's going to go. It's going to go to
- 26:45Speaker 5: the red cross or I don't know who's working on there,
- 26:47Speaker 5: but you know, but obviously Gaza needs the relief. But, um,
- 26:52Speaker 5: Macklemore is not really apologizing for anything he says. And
- 27:00Speaker 5: it's unfortunate for Ed Sheeran.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but all these guys, even Bruce Springsteen, it's a concert.
- 27:06Speaker 2: You're supposed to sing, play music. That's it.
- 27:13Speaker 5: But you know going into a Bruce Springsteen show how
- 27:16Speaker 5: he feels about Trump.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Well, forget Trump. Forget Trump. If you're doing a concert
- 27:20Speaker 2: and in between two songs, You said to the audience,
- 27:23Speaker 2: you know, I want to talk about the Fed increasing
- 27:24Speaker 2: the interest rate a quarter. Nobody wants to hear this.
- 27:27Speaker 2: No politics. It doesn't matter whether it's Trump or whether
- 27:30Speaker 2: it's economic.
- 27:31Speaker 1: You're there to sing.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Just sing.
- 27:33Speaker 5: But with artists, you know going in, that's who you're
- 27:39Speaker 5: coming to. Bruce Springsteen doesn't have opening acts. With Ed Sheeran,
- 27:44Speaker 5: you go expecting a fun time, right? You just expect
- 27:48Speaker 5: a nonpolitical good time. Uh, he's playing his guitar and
- 27:52Speaker 5: telling jokes and he's, you know, very red and, uh,
- 27:57Speaker 5: you know, I mean, red hair and, uh, and.
- 28:01Speaker 1: And that's it.
- 28:02Speaker 5: So you don't expect to someone, you don't expect to
- 28:04Speaker 5: suddenly be in a free Palestine rally.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Uh, wait, go back to that for a minute. Bruce
- 28:07Speaker 2: Springsteen doesn't have an opening act.
- 28:10Speaker 1: No, Bruce Springsteen has no opening. Really? I thought you
- 28:13Speaker 1: had to have one.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Don't you need it to warm up the audience?
- 28:17Speaker 1: No, he plays for three or four hours by himself. Right.
- 28:21Speaker 1: E Street Band, enough for anybody, Mark.
- 28:23Speaker 2: And what is that play, Three Hours? That's a little,
- 28:26Speaker 2: you think Trump has an ego? A guy that plays
- 28:28Speaker 2: a three-hour concert, that's an ego.
- 28:31Speaker 5: I think he, well, he plays it because the audience
- 28:33Speaker 5: wants it. We love Bruce Springsteen, and I could take
- 28:36Speaker 5: a five-hour concert. Oh, my God. They're getting shorter now
- 28:41Speaker 5: as he gets older. Oh, I just read this is
- 28:44Speaker 5: terrible news. Oh, I just saw some terrible news on
- 28:46Speaker 5: the wire.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Duncan Sheik.
- 28:51Speaker 5: Who was the great singer-songwriter who wrote Spring Awakening on Broadway.
- 28:56Speaker 5: And he also had a great single called Barely Breathing
- 29:01Speaker 5: Has Passed Away.
- 29:02Speaker 1: That's very sad.
- 29:04Speaker 2: How old is he?
- 29:05Speaker 1: Wasn't that old? I would say he's in his 50s.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:09Speaker 2: All right. That's terrible. Hey, your buddy Woody Allen, is
- 29:15Speaker 2: this true? He's making a new movie at 91?
- 29:16Speaker 1: He's 56, Duncan Sheep. Yes.
- 29:22Speaker 5: Woody Allen is going to be 91 on November 30th.
- 29:27Speaker 5: And in the meantime, he's about to start shooting a
- 29:31Speaker 5: movie October 5th in Madrid.
- 29:33Speaker 1: It's his 51st movie.
- 29:36Speaker 5: And right now the working title is Madrid and. it's
- 29:40Speaker 5: set in Spain, where he's had a couple of really
- 29:43Speaker 5: cool movies. You know, he had Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which
- 29:46Speaker 5: won a lot of Oscars.
- 29:48Speaker 1: It was a big hit.
- 29:50Speaker 5: And we don't know what this one's about, but his
- 29:53Speaker 5: last film, Coupe de Champs, was shot in France and was.
- 29:59Speaker 1: It was all in French, in fact.
- 30:02Speaker 5: And actually, I don't know if you've seen it, but
- 30:04Speaker 5: you should rent it. It has a great twist. It's
- 30:07Speaker 5: a wonderful film. So Woody's still got it. He had
- 30:13Speaker 5: a novel that came out last year, and he has
- 30:16Speaker 5: a second novel that's coming out next year that he's finished.
- 30:21Speaker 1: And he's also got a play that he's finished.
- 30:23Speaker 7: Huh.
- 30:24Speaker 1: So he's getting a lot.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Done while we're sitting around talking on the radio. Woody
- 30:29Speaker 5: Allen is busy at his manual typewriter writing all these things.
- 30:33Speaker 2: And his greatest accomplishment ever is you could get a
- 30:36Speaker 2: picture of him in 1963 on the Jack Parr show
- 30:39Speaker 2: and today at 91, and he looks exactly the same.
- 30:42Speaker 2: This guy looks exactly the same. No difference. How is
- 30:46Speaker 2: that possible? Clean living?
- 30:48Speaker 5: Well, yeah, really clean living. But, you know, it's funny
- 30:53Speaker 5: because it's ironic, right? Because now the Carnegie Deli, which
- 30:56Speaker 5: you hosted the other day, you were there, has reopened
- 31:01Speaker 5: and have a Broadway Danny Rose sandwich, which is named
- 31:03Speaker 5: for the famous movie.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 31:06Speaker 5: And the movie Broadway Danny Rose from 1985 took place
- 31:10Speaker 5: at the original Carnegie Deli.
- 31:12Speaker 1: You know, great.
- 31:13Speaker 5: All the great comics sitting around telling their stories about
- 31:16Speaker 5: Broadway Danny Rose. And it's all pastrami, you know, and
- 31:20Speaker 5: corned beef, which we love. But Woody doesn't eat any
- 31:22Speaker 5: of that.
- 31:23Speaker 2: You know, I was talking the other day. This Carnegie,
- 31:26Speaker 2: the new Carnegie, is wonderful. But it's nothing like the
- 31:28Speaker 2: old Carnegie with the big, fat, surly waiters and the
- 31:32Speaker 2: comedian's table in front. Yeah, you're right. Go watch Broadway
- 31:35Speaker 2: Danny Rose, the movie. You'll see the old Carnegie in
- 31:37Speaker 2: its prime. Broadway Danny Rose, great.
- 31:40Speaker 1: But isn't it nice?
- 31:41Speaker 5: It's so nice to have the sign back on 7th
- 31:44Speaker 5: Avenue that says Carnegie Deli.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Yeah. You know, I love that.
- 31:48Speaker 2: The food's great. The sandwiches, the knish, the cheesecake, everything
- 31:52Speaker 2: is back. It's great.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Everything's great.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Have you been there yet? It's phenomenal.
- 31:57Speaker 5: I haven't been there yet, but I'll be there this weekend.
- 31:59Speaker 5: I'm definitely going. I'm sure there are going to be
- 32:01Speaker 5: long lines.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 5: But I actually wrote about it coming back. I was
- 32:05Speaker 5: actually almost the first person to write.
- 32:08Speaker 1: About it on Showbiz 411.
- 32:10Speaker 5: Because they dropped a little hint, and I immediately wrote
- 32:14Speaker 5: the story.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I was so excited.
- 32:16Speaker 5: And I said to the publicist, are you going to
- 32:19Speaker 5: have a Broadway Danny Rose sandwich? She goes, I don't know.
- 32:22Speaker 5: She's so young, she doesn't know. I said, you better
- 32:25Speaker 5: ask them. So they've got it.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Now, just for everybody listening, it's not where the old
- 32:29Speaker 2: Carnegie was. It's a block south of there. It's where
- 32:32Speaker 2: the stage deli was.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Apparently, they didn't want to go.
- 32:36Speaker 5: Which is actually a nicer, it's nicer. It has a,
- 32:39Speaker 5: you know, they have, you know, enclosed glass front. It's
- 32:44Speaker 5: a lot nicer than the Carnegie Valley was.
- 32:46Speaker 2: That's a good point. Yeah, it's all windows, so it's
- 32:48Speaker 2: a lot of light. The old Carnegie had no windows
- 32:50Speaker 2: in the dining room.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 32:53Speaker 5: Yeah, no, the old Carnegie, you walked all the way
- 32:55Speaker 5: into the back, you know, into like a mysterious place
- 32:58Speaker 5: where you got a sandwich as tall as you were.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you still get that sandwich, but it's great.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Everybody read Roger Friedman's website, showbiz411. com.
- 33:08Speaker 1: I saw a great movie last night. Do you want
- 33:10Speaker 1: to hear one last thing?
- 33:11Speaker 2: All right, real fast.
- 33:12Speaker 5: There's a Brad Pitt movie called Heart of the Beast.
- 33:15Speaker 5: It's opening next week on the 25th. Go see this movie.
- 33:20Speaker 5: I saw it last night. The critics loved it. I mean,
- 33:23Speaker 5: I've never seen a room. Everyone was so surprised about
- 33:26Speaker 5: how terrific it is. It's a survivalist movie. It's Brad
- 33:29Speaker 5: Pitt and a dog. And the dog is going to
- 33:31Speaker 5: get nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
- 33:33Speaker 1: All right.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Say the name again. Heart of the Beast?
- 33:36Speaker 1: Heart of the Beast. Heart of the Beast. Everybody go
- 33:38Speaker 1: see it.
- 33:38Speaker 2: And check out Roger Friedman's website, showbiz411. com. New stories every day. Showbiz411. com.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Roger Friedman, thanks for being with us.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 33:49Speaker 2: All right.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Take care.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Hey, it's Mark Simone here. Nine to noon every day.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Nine to noon. It's three hours now. Then at noon,
- 33:56Speaker 2: you got Buck Sexton and Clay Travis. 3 o'clock, you've
- 33:59Speaker 2: got the most listened to radio show in America, Sean Hannity.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Jesse Kelly at 6. The very funny Jimmy Fallon. He's
- 34:06Speaker 2: now on here every night, 9 to midnight, 7, 10, W-O-R.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Live from the W-O-R LifeVac Studios. Well, it's the final
- 34:17Speaker 2: Friday of summer. We've got a lot to get to
- 34:20Speaker 2: in the next hour. That's right, another hour to go.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Mark Simone here, 9 to noon every weekday on 710WOR.
