Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Saturday at noon, the number one team in the country walks in the nail in stadium with game day in town.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Trinidad Chambliss is the new Heisman favorite, and his reward is a trip to the swamp where Florida is favored over the fourth-ranked Ole Miss.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Lane Kibbett's LSU and Texas AM both lost last week, and one of them is losing again Saturday night.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Iowa takes the fewest points allowed on defense in the country into the big house, and NC State fumbled a safety.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: That and more coming up on the Mike Blitz.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my host, co-host, Darren Steadman.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: How y'all doing this fine evening?
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Listen, guys, I'm in a much better mood.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Yesterday was grieving the old miss loss, but now I'm all on Texas AM.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: So I'm in a much happier place.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Uh the grieving is behind me.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: I have flipped the script in 24 hours.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: So I'm very excited to look forward to week four, not backwards, forwards only.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: That's where I am.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: It's college football season right there.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: High highs and low lows and everything in between.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: And you know, if you if you don't like how you feel about a team, just wait 24 hours.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: You gotta shake it off.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: You gotta shake it off and keep pushing forward.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: You got nine more uh opponents coming down the chute.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: So you gotta be ready.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited, I'm excited for that.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: The second week zero starts, my brain goes to full college football mode.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: And this year, my favorite uh professional football team just lost their LSU alumni quarterback for god knows how long.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: So, really, I'm just happier that I'm spending even more and more time in the college football uh arena because I don't think NFL is gonna treat me is off to cold star two.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: So, and my point is this stupid story.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: I'm just glad to be here with you guys.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: I'm just really glad to be talking about college football and really nothing else.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: So, with that, tonight we're gonna do uh our week four preview thing.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: We're also gonna do some punt or go for it.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: You guys know the drill.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: I got some hot takes.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna try and convince these guys to uh push the red button to go for it, to not punt.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, then we'll talk about uh some games coming up.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: We have 10 in mind.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: This is a big week.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: There are like six ranked-on-ranked matchups.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna pick some of those.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: We'll do the homers, we'll throw in the little uh extras at you, and we'll just kind of see how it goes.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: So with that, let's go ahead and get started.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: That's why everyone's here.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Punter, go for it.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Number one.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Look, man, I'm still on this Camario Trinidad uh train.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: We're going to start it.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Here's my punter, go for it.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: The state of Mississippi has the best quarterback duo in the country.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: You can have any two quarterbacks from any state.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's close.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Give me Camario, give me Trinidad.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: The competitors, Indiana, you got Josh Hoover and uh CJ Carr, Kentucky, Kenny Minchie and Lincoln Keenholes, California.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Do you can I interest you in some JKS, uh Nico or Maeva?
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: I think that's probably a pretty good trio over there.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Virginia, up until last week, was looking really good with Grunk and uh Prabula.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Not so much.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Probably this week, not so much this week, but my point, my point, I think it's a runaway.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, I can't Mississippi has two, two of the best quarterbacks in the same state.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Give me a state that has a better top two.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Punter, go for it.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Indiana's tough, man.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: Josh Hoover has done nothing wrong so far.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Um CJ Carr has has underwhelmed as a Heisman favorite, but that's the only, you know, it's the only thing you can do as a Heisman favorite in week zero is actually not live up to your highest expectations possible.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: Um, but Camario and Trinidad.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: I mean, Mississippi, I don't think you could combine a couple quarterbacks to to overtake those guys right now.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: What's going on in Alabama?
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Uh Byron Brown?
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: Byron Brown with Keelan along with Keelan.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: Byron Brown's not gonna make it.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Keelan, you know, I'm trying to pair somebody with Keelan.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, what's happening in Georgia with Gunnar Stockton?
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Nothing, not much behind him.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I'm not buying Alberto Mendoza.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, in Texas has about a thousand Texas has about a thousand schools.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: So can I interest you in the ghost of obviously Arch Manning, number one?
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Can I interest you in the ghost of DJ Lagway?
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Will Hammond?
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Marcel Reid, who's gonna get benched pretty soon, pretty soon here.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Jaden Craig, TCU.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: I guess oh no, it is Jennings.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: It's Jennings.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Arch and Jennings would be uh SMEU.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: That's not a bad he throws the ball to the wrong team too often, that guy.
- 4:35SPEAKER_04: It's a go for it.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: That's the right one.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think Mississippi is the one.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: I think I would think I'm with Darren.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: I think I would take Indiana too, but you could make a great argument for Florida.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's a there are a lot of states that have the pair, but I think for now, and I think for the first time that I can remember, Mississippi is the king of the quarterback castle, quarterback castle, good for them.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: So we're all going for it on uh Mississippi, this the quarterback, the the commonwealth of quarterback, good for them.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: All right, number two, ACC.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: We are just love just pooping on the ACC these days.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: The ACC is firing four coaches this offseason.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Be more specific, there'll be four new coaches, at least the head coaches starting next fall.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: I got Mike Norvell, he's dead man walking.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Dave Dorn at NC State, I think is just about there.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Bill O'Brien at uh Boston College.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I think those three are pretty much gimme's at this point.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna take Dabo.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: I think Dabo's gonna go.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: My outside shot would be Fran Brown at Syracuse and Bill Belichick, unless he continues to kind of stabilize and UNC does okay.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: I think we're looking at major turnover in the ACC uh this coming season.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: So I'm giving with the the question is to you the ACC will fire four or more quarterbacks this season.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: The punter go for it.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: Not in this group.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: This is a four-fire conference right now for sure.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: You just gave six names, and you know, there's probably one out there in the field that we're not even thinking about.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: Well, um, but Doran, uh, after the the the safety fumble fiasco that's just made NC State the laughing stock right now.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: Uh I th and I started the season by saying, you know, Dabo and Norvell are in a head-to-head race to the bottom to see who gets fired first and earliest.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: They're both hovering, and Belichick is hovering as well.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: We said that about Belichick too.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: And so they're hovering, but it's only week three.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: We got five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: We got a lot of weeks of of crappy football ahead in the ACC.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, so I'm gonna go for it.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: Four coaches, goners.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: I like that.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Tevita Pritchard.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: This yeah, that one's that one's on schedule.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: I think we're gonna get to that one.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: I think I think we're gonna hit that one.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Tevita Pritchard at Stanford, he just got there.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: He Andrew Lux seems to like that guy.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: And they just they just hired Tosh Lupai at Cal.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: He's good.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: They're not gonna they're not running him out there, and they love Rhett Lashley.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Rhett Lashley's not, I could see him being promotion.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: I could see somebody coming to pluck him for a bigger gig, but he's they're they love him at SMU.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: I don't think they're gonna go.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: And so I'm sticking with I'm sticking with four, those four those six possible names.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: So good stuff.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: We'll split.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Big Forest is playing good ball, so they're not they're no longer like a doormat of the league.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: So no, and Jake Dickert's also a great coach.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: He he he's the kind of guy who might get promoted out of wake.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: I could see that as well.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: All right, moving on.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Big 12 chaos is coming, it is real.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: There is that top level, it is no longer a pyramid, it is a plateau of squads.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: I think there is about four or five teams that are all right there.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: BYU, Utah, I think Arizona State is tough.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: Um, uh, we talked about Kansas State, um, uh Texas Tech, obviously.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, there's a whole bunch of teams, there's a whole bunch of chaos coming.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: And it's it's back to the way it was a long time ago.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: It is any anybody's on any given Saturday, any nobody is afraid of anybody.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Nobody is going to is gonna be a doormat for anybody anymore in this conference in this conference.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: I think we're back to that.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: So, my point: the chaos is coming.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: We're gonna see some cannibalization.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: The Big 12 is gonna be a one-bid league again in the postseason, punt or go for it.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: One one or one one conference.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: One team in the playoff for the Big 12.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's news, Michael.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: I think that's an easy go for it.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: Uh this is an easy go for it.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: I think it might be time to pose the question if the Big 12 is the first conference to not even be represented in the playoff.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: And so we might have a Big 12 championship between a 10-2, a 10-2.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: They all look worse than a 9-3 Florida, and a Big 12 is not represented.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: Do I think that's actually going to happen realistically?
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: No, because it didn't happen last year.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: They uh they couldn't put the committee couldn't put Duke as the ACC championship in the playoffs, so they put Miami in over Notre Dame with worse losses.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: I'm still a little bitter about it because I think they just wanted the power for conferences represented.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: And will that happen again this year?
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: Probably.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: Uh, whether it's deserved or not.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: But yeah, uh one team will make the playoff.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: It will be BYU um riding that train still.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: Uh two teams probably not.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Two teams, absolutely not.
- 10:28unknown: Yeah.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Duke had five losses last year, but that was a crazy anomaly.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Like we you gotta think that's never gonna, you gotta think it's never gonna happen again.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Darren's got his first class ticket on the BYU train.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: He is not getting up, he's not going to the snack cart.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: He's front row, million miles an hour, got a great view of the Utah Mountains, just flying around that train.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Love that.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Love that.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Good stuff, good stuff.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Love it.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: All right, moving on.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Marcel Reed, the quarterback of Texas AM, just had a shocking loss at home to the Kentucky Wildcats.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: They were, I believe, 18, 19 point favorites.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: They got mushed.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, Marcel Reed had to throw the ball 49 times, and he was not effective doing so.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Folks, he is very good with his legs, and that is about it.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: He has been in college football for a long time, and nobody knows his limitations better than the good folks at Texas AM, led by Mike Elko, who I think is actually a pretty good, pretty darn good coach.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, his freshman year, he had got some good breaks.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Last year, there was a scheduling monster, went their way.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: They got all the breaks until the playoffs.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: They lost, obviously, in Miami in the first round.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Uh the the shine is off Marcel Reed.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Punter, go for it.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Marcel Reed will be benched before Halloween.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: Don't know much about his backup, but he is everidge, which is not gonna cut it in the SEC.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: He's completing fifty-nine percent of his passes so far.
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: Not good enough.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: He will be benched.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Uh go for it.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: You know, AM's problems are not all Marcel Reed.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Their offensive, they've clearly lost a lot on that defense.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: They just lost uh Terry Bussey, their kind of uh five-star gadget guy for the season with a I think it's an ACL or something.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: I saw that he went out.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: So they they are they don't have as near the Kevin Sepcion is now a Cleveland Brown, I believe.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Uh I think they lost top running back as well.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: The big thing is both of their trenches, offensive line and defensive line, are clearly worse than they were last year, which was the strength of this team.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: So it's not all Marceau Reed's fault, but I'm looking at this team, the way they're playing, and I just if you're uh if you're Elko and you're like, this is not the guy, Marceau Reed is not the guy that's gonna push AM to the next level, it's just like the head coach.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: It's like how how long can you wait?
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: If it's Brady Hart or if it's the five-star freshman, even if they're gonna lose, even if you're an AM fan, let's say you're looking at your AM right now and you have no confidence going to this LSU game, thinking you're gonna lose, you're sitting at two and two, your postseason chance are probably shot.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: You're probably saying to yourself, All right, let's see what we got in the new kids.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Because Marcel Reed is not it, will never be it.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: So you can make a case for that for me.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe, maybe.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: I would love to watch him now.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: I would love to have him as a DC defender.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: Come on down, buddy.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: You'd fit in so well.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: You fit come to Audi Field.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: We'd love to have you.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, Darren, where are you?
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: You what'd you say?
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: You say you're going for it on Marcel?
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, going forward.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: He's hitting the bench and Brady Hart, uh, the era needs to begin.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: They got a couple layups in their schedule coming up, so it's a great time.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: You know, whenever they host the Citadel in a couple weeks, that's a great time to bring Brady Hart in the game and let him get some reps and get him warmed up.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Nobody's caught more strays in this podcast than the Citadel.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: And even Mike and I used to joke about that all the time.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: It's like, well, who, you know, if you're playing some scrub team, we always had the Citadel.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Charles was picking on them in VMI, and now you're picking on them.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: It's just it's a one consistent thing that stood different eras of the Mike Blitz is the Citadel is forever the punching bag.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: I hope none of us have any friends that are Citadel fans.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: And if they are, I do apologize.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: I had nothing against the Citadel.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know why you're always the butt of our jokes.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: I do apologize for that.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: Gotta plant your flag sometimes.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: And all right, let's keep it rolling.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: NC State.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Next one.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: NC State is the worst loss in the history of football.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Past, present, or future.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: There are four candidates.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: The Miami-Georgia Tech game, which is the crazy game we could have should have called, uh, should have just kneeled on the ball and they blew it.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: The Michigan-Michigan State game, which was the uh snapped punt, um, and then obviously got fumbled.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Michigan State recovered, one, the UNLV Baylor game in '99, when they were on uh in 1999, when they were on the one-yard line, they ran a play, fumbled 99-yard return for a touchdown, and this one.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Even if I get creative with my imagination, I cannot think of a worse example than this, especially given what you've seen in this other game, the Miami-Georgia Tech game, the kneel down lesson, the Michigan-Michigan State game.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Don't leave the hand leave, don't leave it in the hands of your long snapper punter.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: That's a bad idea.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: He can't handle the ball very well.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: And obviously, UNLV Baylor, this is before they were really taking knees proactively.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: So we've learned my point is CJ Bailey and Dave Dorn have learned all those lessons.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: This is the worst loss you or you or me will ever see in our lives in the history of college football.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Punt or go for it.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: All right, two questions.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: You know, is this gonna be the worst we ever see, or is it the worst in history?
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: Because there's one play and game in 1982, Cal Stanford, the band is on the field.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: You know, don't forget about that one, right?
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: The band is on the field, and they run back um a game winner.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: There's there's the worst loss, I think.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: I think that was like you when you throw in stakes.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: Um, this game was no was zero stakes, no one cares.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: It's the worst way to lose a game that you could, you know, dream up.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: And so that's what I'm yeah, that's what I'm questioning.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: But then again, college football is so fun for all these reasons.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: I think in our lifetime, which I expect to live a good good distance more, I think we will see something crazier than this because these kids just keep coming out of nowhere and they just get crazier and crazier.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: And yeah, no, I'm gonna punt.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: We're gonna see something even worse, and we're gonna talk about this game um 10 years from now when it happens again.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: That's just a fun thought exercise.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: I want you to spend some time next time you're bored coming up with a scenario worse than this.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Because I couldn't do it, I couldn't make up one of my head.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you kneel on the ball, you just don't fumble it.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: That's all you thought that's it.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Like I got that's it.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: That's all you gotta do.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like how how does how does it get worse?
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: All right, so we got two punts on that one.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm dying on that hill.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: I still think it's the worst loss I've ever seen in college football, but so be it.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: Darren's right.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Things the kids, these kids these days, they'll find a way to all right.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Last one.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: I have to talk, I have to talk about the Duke Blue Devils.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Duke Blue Devils are three and oh.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Smoked, uh they're not sure they smoked.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: They soundly beat Illinois, recently beat Stanford 35 to 7.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: They've got this running back named Nate Shepard.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: They're gonna start 9-0.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: William and Mary at Georgia Tech, UNC at Virginia, which is the only game that there might be a dog in, we think, based on the SP right now, but based on what we think about Duke, what we think about Virginia versus Boston College at NC State.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: The last three games are at Miami versus Clemson at Wake.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Those could be a little stickier, but I think we're looking at a Duke team that's gonna be nine and oh, and we're gonna be talking about them like they might be the Louisville, like they might be the second or third squad in the ACC.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: I'm impressed by them a lot, and I don't think anyone's talking about them.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: So I think we should give them a little shout-out and decide how far they're gonna go.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Duke is gonna start nine and oh in 2026.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: Hunter, go for it.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: What do you got?
- 18:42SPEAKER_04: Me too.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: At UVA at 7 PM in October.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: Um, UVA is gonna get them all kinds of trouble.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: Now I'm glad we're talking about Duke.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: We got a good team here, and Manny Diaz said something along the lines in media days about everybody's talking about who's not here.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: You know, Mensah, of course, is not a blue devil this year, and he's like, let's talk about who is here.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: This is the team that won the ACC last year.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: You know, we are a group of winners here at Duke.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: And so, yeah, and so this is a group that beat UVA for the uh ACC title last year, and so they deserve to be talked about.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: They're gonna they're gonna have a lot of juice going into UVA, but so is UVA.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: Wahoos are gonna want revenge worse than anything.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: We're gonna hear revenge, revenge, revenge around that game in October, and so that's gonna be a tough one.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, but will Duke go 9-0 this year?
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: Go for it.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're gonna beat UVA at in Charlottesville.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was a darn good team, though.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're gonna beat a heck of a team.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Nate Shepard is the running back.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Nate Shepard is a running back.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: He's leading the country 528 yards, second Jaden Ball is uh 458.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: So he is running the beejes of the ball.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: What we just learned about our beloved Wahoos, which who we are, which we are still fans of on the Mike Blitz podcast, is their run defense all of a sudden has just got real suspect.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Uh West Virginia really ripped through them.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: So if they're if if if uh young Mr.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Shepard can stay healthy and they can uh coach Diaz keeps feeding him that rock, I think he's gonna give all those teams a ton of problems.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: So yeah, uh give me the Duke Duke Blue Devils to be rolling in to uh November post-Halloween, sitting with a big fat goose egg in the L column.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: So I'm glad we all agree.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Nate Shepard averaging 6.4 with five touchdowns.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: He's a real deal.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: He's absolute stud.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: Yep, absolutely good stuff.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: All right, folks, that has been your punt or go for it for week four.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: That was punt or go for it for week four.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Next up is week four's pick episode.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: Mike and Darren run the board on this week's big games and build the parlay.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: It's coming up next.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: You can find it anywhere on your podcast.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Think they whiffed on this one?
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Tell us in the comments.
