- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not going to the game, it's a great place to hang, it's a great place to watch a game, it's great for date night, it's great for business lunch, it's great for boys night out and on and on and on and on and on, they got TVs, but it's a very classy vibe.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: and the food is always gonna hit the spot.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: So enjoy thanks to Pesto for the support.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: If you are going to the game Saturday, not you gotta go to Pesto, you gotta love it.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're not going to the game, but you're in the area of one of the Pesto locations, go check it out.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, later.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: And thank you for the support, and now on to the pod.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: There's just something about winning the game on defense.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think about Sunday night football.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think about the nine of his Rams game at overtime earlier this year.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think about 2019, Drake Greenlaw, Jacob Hollister, Week 18, I guess Week 17, nine of his Seahawks, which we'll get to replay that on Saturday.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think about the pick of the stick.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: I was on the field for that game.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the Falcons were gonna score for sure.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: Sunday night football was a bananza.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: against the bears.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, everybody?
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Guy here.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: It is early Monday morning.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: I did not do it Sunday night reaction, but here we are.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: It was so many things I want to hit on.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think the first thing is they're going to play Saturday.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to play Saturday against the Seahawks.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: For the one seed, we are as of Monday, 41 days from the Super Bowl.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers have a chance to have.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: Base, you know, a 41 game, a 42 game homestay.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: 42 day, not game.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: 42 day homestay and if you count Sunday night.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: If they beat, if they beat the Seahawks on Saturday,
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: They'll have a chance to have a 42 day home stand.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: They are four wins away from the Lombardi, which sounds crazy.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would have been crazy early in the year.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was, you know, this team, what they didn't have.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: We spent a lot of time talking about what they didn't have.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I think when the NFC play off start, there's gonna be a lot of talk about what nobody has.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Philly Statistically has a good defense.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: The Rams have the best balance, probably of offense and defense.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: The CX have statistically the best defense.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: in the NFC.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: They can beat you.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're a good football team, but we've been talking about Seattle for a long time.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: I want to jump ahead yet.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: You guys know, I think you know where I'm at at them.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they're a championship team.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: And so you know, it's, it's a wide open NFC is the point.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think there's a major Brock
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: it was authentic for people to say like, oh, the Colts game, I think it's funny when you hear like, oh, the Colts game, one of the best games you've ever played or Kyle Shanahan was asked after the title's game.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: This was the best game that Trent Williams has ever played, and PFF grade, and he's like, yeah, he didn't say it this way, but Trent's probably not sitting at home when he retired five years from now, going, you know, the peak of my career was that Tennessee game, week 16 for the 49ers.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, week 15, whatever it was.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: No, so, you know, was the Colts game really good for Brock?
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the bear's game on Sunday night was, I think, far superior, you know, people hate when you say this quarterback's going against this quarterbacks.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they're not on the field at the same time.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but Sunday night is what we're talking about.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's one that Philip Rivers, the story is amazing.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Philip Rivers was crushing beers on the 19th hole three weeks ago, a month ago.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Williams,
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: is the future.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the futures in the NFL because the bears with Ben Johnson are going to become our becoming what the Packers were supposed to be with Jordan Love, except Caleb's better.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: What the lines were supposed to be with Jared Goff, except Caleb's better and there's no shame in that.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: This guy has all the skills of a number one pick.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: He's got that thing where you go, you know, it's very like kind of basketball.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: We're like, I don't care what the, what Steph Curry shooting percentages today.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: He terrifies me.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, Caleb was six of 12 at one point in that game.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: With two touchdowns, a 35 yards or more.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: And they were laser beams.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: He was awesome.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, in the ongoing,
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: never ending, which is fine with me, because I think these things take time, argument about what exactly Brock Perti is, the moments matter more than the efficiency stats.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, in fact, if you're too efficient statistically,
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's suspicious.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: I've said this for a long time, pre-block, you know, when you look at a quarterback in college and it's a completion percentage of 78%.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, that's not a real stat.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's not real football.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're not challenging yourself enough.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think one of the most eye-opening things for me in the last
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, in the analytics era of sports was the idea that a player in baseball could have a worse defensive rating because he's a better player, not defensive rating solves this.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: I guess he could have more errors because he's a better player than another player, right?
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: A short stop could have more errors than another short stop because he's better not because he's worse.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: and he's got better range.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: So he gets the more balls, he tries to make more difficult plays, and thus gets charged with more errors.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I think efficiency stats sometimes are like, that's great.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: Are you making difficult enough plays, you know, and it's hard when the efficiency stats put you in the same category as like two a couple years ago, or you go, oh, this is the most efficient quarterback who's ever lived other than Jimmy Garoppolo, you're like, hold on wait a second, that's not the standard.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you know, I think, and I've said for a while, Brock is definitely better than to a and he's definitely better than Jimmy Garoppolo, but I think if you're going to make an argument, the winning argument,
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: isn't always about the numbers and efficiency.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's about let me watch you go toe to toe in a game that requires you to make a bunch of plays and then you make them.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: And what I loved about that about Sunday night in hindsight now, but even I thought this during the moment is like a pick six at the end of the game is devastating.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: A pick six on the first play of the game is an opportunity.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's an opportunity.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: And now you're starting left at your all world left tackle Trim Williams got hurt on the same play.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: So it had a chance to be one of the most devastating points you ever could imagine.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: But it's an opportunity.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, no college admissions, no effective college admissions application letter says everything was easy.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: Life is great.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: Please accept me.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: No, they want to see like here is a challenge I overcame.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: My buddy Yogi Roth, who's a fantastic analyst and I work with him less couple of years on Big Ten Network doing TV.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: He also has worked with quarterbacks for years and he has this thing called pace, PACE, CE.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Plays after critical errors.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: Plays after critical errors.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to see what a quarterback does after a pick.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's, I always think about it in life.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right, got frustrated with the baby.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: He went down for an app.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: Next time he's up, plays after critical errors.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm not getting frustrated this time around.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: When Brock was rightly criticized two years ago, Monday at football, almost two years to the day, it was the same game, basically.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: The nighters were 11 and three, and the Ravens were 11 and three, and Brock threw four interceptions.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I said after that, that's bad.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's been part of the thing for Pertis.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Can he play in the prime time games really well?
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: What do we have going into the colds game?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think the stat was, I don't remember exactly.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: But it was like five touchdowns, 11 picks, 32% of his career interceptions had come on,
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Monday night football.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: So now he's played back to back excellent primetime games, but this one was special.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought that Raven's game.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: The thing about the one thing about Perti when he threw four interceptions on that Raven's game.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God, was he, he didn't, he kept throwing.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like he kept taking where he didn't go into a shell.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't get better, but it didn't go into a shell in terms of taking chances.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um,
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: So efficiency is great.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Consistency with efficiency is how you give yourself a chance to win a championship.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: But gas mileage isn't the only thing that wins you the Grand Prix, right?
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be able to have high end speed.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be able to take chances and cut corners on that really racing guy, but I just watched the F1 movie.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be able to overtake talent and drivers.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'll stop making this a racing thing.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to make plays, the way he created,
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: and was pretty disciplined in terms of like putting the ball in harm's way, with special, you know, with plenty of team, you're gonna, it's more likely that you're gonna have to overcome mistakes and adversity than that you're gonna play the perfect game.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: So the question is not really ever, can you play the perfect game?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: In golf, it's never, can you birdy every hole, right?
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's how do you respond after the buggy?
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: So the cold's performance was great.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: This was so much better because you had to keep going
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't get to play from a play from in front and have the other team kind of quit and then stack it up afterwards and put up big numbers.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: And again, the cold thing was legit, but it was so different than this.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: This was so different and the colds on paper are better defense, but this was toe to toe with another guy can steal a game from him.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this game was tied five times.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: It was tied at seven, it was tied at 14, it was tied at 21, it was tied at 28, it was tied at 35.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: That was Kyle Shanahan and Ben Johnson facing off.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: Each had their weapon, gentlemen, choose your weapon.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: And one guy had Caleb and one guy had Brock.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: And it was just an incredible display.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: It was an incredible display from both of them.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, how about this stat?
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: And this is where it's like, this is not the stat that tells you how that when Jenny arguments.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: But it's an interesting stat.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I know when I say these kinds of stats, people are like, oh, these, these stats are ridiculous.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: You're not, it's just an interesting stuff.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Players to have 11 plus touchdowns passing, two rushing to, and two plus rushing touchdowns.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: And a three game span, perdi, and the last three games.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Tom Brady, 2007 MVP, Steve Young, 1994 MVP.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: Just an interesting step.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: Um, there's a, there's a movie called Boondock Saints and I've never had the chance to use this and maybe I never will, but there's a scene in that movie, William Defoe is recreating a shoot-out scene.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: And he goes, he has this line, which you don't even need to know the movie, the line, which is I love using lines that you don't need to know the movie.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: But I've always had in the back of my head maybe there'd be a moment like in a basketball game where two guys are going back and forth going off.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: We're, uh, William Defoe screams, there was a firefight.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: There was a firefight.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't use it.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, that's what the Kyle Shanahan Ben Johnson performance was last night.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean Ben Johnson calling the hook, I guess the slant Tim Ryan was calling it, that the slanted lateral, to try and, you know, with whatever it was, 11 seconds left with no time outs, felt like he was trying to win the game on that play,
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: and it was a gutsy call.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: It was a lay it on the table call and it got him a first down and it got down in spite of the football four seconds and they had one play left.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: But that was the type of play.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: That was the type of play called, I don't even know if Kyle would call.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle has called that recently.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that goes back to the lions.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the Dan Campbell do whatever.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it turns out Ben Johnson, he had to took a big risk.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't play call last week that didn't work in the red zone.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: Still on the gaming screen, but that, I mean, that was just like, if that wins you the game, I don't think it was an ego call.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's calling what he thinks to work.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: But it was a major ego.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: That would have been a major, the only a genius makes that play call, right?
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like if it works.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: And again, he did it with enough time to,
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: to still get down there and spike the football.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: So all time Brock performance, signature party performance because of the stage, because of the opponent, because of what it means, now you can beat the seahawks, be the one seed, and I think because of what it indicates, can this team be what they need to be?
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, part of saying the defense isn't good enough to win a championship is also saying your offense can't overcome your defense.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: So can you do it if you're playing Denver in the Super Bowl right with that defense that's a scary proposition But this is where the one seed is so critical Trent Williams the hamstring George Kittle the foot or the ankle.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: Can you get a buy can you beat Seattle?
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't love the third the Saturday night game.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think the Niners are disadvantaged.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Seattle's coming from across the country But I don't love the Saturday night, but
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: I guess for the losing team, then I was where the C-Ox, the benefit will be, you play it on Saturday.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: So you probably, you know, you get an extra day to prepare for whoever your wild card opponent is.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: But the better thing is just to not be playing in that wild card game at all.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think if your opinion has ever been Kyle Shanahan should be fired, that's it.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a disqualifying opinion, but it's a strike.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you had trail ants is better than Sam Donald and Kyle Shanahan should be fired, that's two strikes.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: Three strikes you're out.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Now I don't think a lot of people had Kyle Shanahan should be fired.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think there was some like, there's pressure on Kyle this year to respond after you last year.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: And that's fair.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: 100, everybody,
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: You don't get to be great because you were good three years ago.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: You have to keep it going.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: The league evolves, things change, coaches lose their grip on teams.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: All those things happen.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to keep proving it.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: But with this guy has proven, and I don't know if he'll be coach of the year, this year, there are some really good candidates.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: He should be coach of the year if they're the one seed.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: As good as the Liam Cohen, candidacy, I think Sean Peyton, if I'd have vote right now, definitely Ben Johnson, I think Sean might be the guy I would vote for if I didn't vote for Kyle, but if this team wins the NFC and is the one seed, if they win 13 games,
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: How do you not make Kyle Shanhand the NFL coach of the year?
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's never been, even though he's clearly a top, I think in arguably a top, I didn't really think of the list, in any given your top five coach, in arguably, I know, you know, tracements of the other day, he would hire him.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: if he had to hire anybody.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: So, but this would be the year.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: Even in this game, no kiddo, they just go right back to Jake Todd just who was fantastic.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Ricky Pierce all, is Ricky Pierce all, gonna just be brand-out-out-use replacement.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: There's another game where they can't cover him.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky's just W-A-O, you know what?
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: I love that term from the Shanhand offense tree.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: Wide ass open.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: So Ricky is getting, the question was like, can Ricky personal get open?
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: That was the question, right?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: When he got drafted, that they overdraft him, can he consistently get open?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: He is consistently getting open.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: He gave them a scare when he went down after a second catch on Sunday night, but he is consistently getting open.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: And it made me wonder, some of you guys, if you're an old San Francisco Giants fan, in 2012, the Giants second world series win in that stretch of three.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: They had a guy named Melke Cabrera, who got suspended 50 games, and he played like, this was into the season.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think he played over 100 games.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: He gets suspended 50 games performance enhancing drugs.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: The suspension ends, is a good player, very good hitter.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's good to come back.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, we're good.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: We're not gonna put you back on this roster.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I do like, here's Brandon Iyuk.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: who, what if this team does go on a special run without him?
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's already been a special regular season, but what if they go on a special run, and he could have been healthy, or he was healthy, and had a chance to, you know, you was so mad after they lost the Super Bowl.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, it felt like was dissatisfied, specifically felt like they lost his heating at the Bowl.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: Which, you know what, is not the worst receiver quality, that's a receiver quality.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: but it does, it did cross my mind driving home, Sunday night, like, is he gonna miss out on this?
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, understandably, there's so much on the line financially.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's so easy when things are high stakes and people are saying things about people publicly, I understand
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: sensitivities and being offended, you know, one of the things I try to, I try to, I've, I've said, core value, don't be offended, don't get offended.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: I try.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's, you know, it doesn't apply to everybody in every situation in life.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: So don't misunderstand, but who are you robbing?
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: Who are you robbing?
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: But not being a part of this?
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: Are you robbing them?
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: But the four, Joann Jen, what Joann Jennings has earned in this year, I think he got another bonus on Sunday night.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: He has been, since the midway point of the season, one of the best receivers in the league.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I think there is not a receiver in the league since week nine with more touchdowns than Joann Jennings.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's him in Devante, and this is before the Rams play on Monday night.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: He has been incredible.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, but, you know, you lose kiddo, peer solver places, some of, in a different way, some of that.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: And then Tanjus, Tanjus had a great block to Perti's legs were such a critical, such a critical element in the game.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the Trent one, you use Trent Williams and Austin Pleasence.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's guys played 21 offensive snap this year.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's been on six teams if you count practice cards in five years and he steps up and, um, plays a really good game.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was a, uh, it was one of the most special games I've ever seen.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the 2019 C Hawks game at the end of the year, it felt like that.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of the, without a doubt, one of the best games.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the best game I've ever called the Thursday Night Game against the Rams was great.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: This was better.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: uh... if you missed i did call the game on can be our info Greg there was you know some hope and we talked about it that Greg poppa the voice of forty minutes would return on sunday uh... you know Greg's bad luck cancer as many of you know and uh... this was you know the hope was this would be kind of the plan was uh... he was feeling better feeling better he and i'll let him talk about it whatever point on his show but uh... you know to his credit and he deserves a lot this is not he is a
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think, as good as it gets in a broadcast, as a broadcaster.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: He is what happens when you take somebody with elite talent, anti-lead preparation, and you put him together, and you get the very top of the pyramid.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: Self-actualization, fully, wasn't like a Bradley Cooper movie if he was a movie where a guy takes a pill and can access the other 98% of his brain that none of us ever access.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: When I listen to Greg Poppe, like that's what's happening.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: This is a person operating at the highest level of human achievement when it comes to play by play.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: You can pick whatever your favorite podcaster is from whatever Hall of Fame you want to pick, and that guy can go toe to toe with them.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so there's that.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: Then there's one an incredible, this man is battling cancer and he's been a support to me as I'm filling in for him.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, I'm sure he felt
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: pressure, I don't know, you say you're going to come back and people go, like, oh, he's going to be back and everyone gets excited and to Rico, his boy is going to be there.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: And to his credit, he told me a few days ago, like, hey, just get talked to him Tuesday, I talked to him Thursday, whatever, here's what I'm feeling.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and, you know, he gave me a chance to prepare in case he couldn't do it.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I was going to be on the sidelines for this last game.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, you know what, I got a, when, when it came to the day, he decided and he told Mayoco this and I said, what, well, how do you want me to share this on areas to just say I, I, um,
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I had to make this decision for my health and you know, the hope is maybe he could do this week.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't we don't know.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's up to him.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: But the priority is that he's healthy.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: He is as good as it gets.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's best for everybody if he's back as the voice of 49ers and, you know, we want him.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: I know he wants to be at his best for that.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: And.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: the funny thing about it is like 80% of him is still better than 99.9% of the bet like not of guys doing whatever random stuff like of the best he is excellent and it's a gift to hero and uh it's an honor to fill in form and and uh you know we we had a lot of fun on sun and night but he he is missed and was missed and uh I don't know perhaps he'll be back on his radio show and we'll talk about it so it's not my place and
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: frankly, I can't imagine what it's like, but he's a special man and a special broadcaster.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, the moment was lesser for his absence, but hopefully, but, you know, hopefully we did it just as Tim Ryan, who's the analyst is.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: incredible.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's also fantastic and a great teammate.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: I got a text from a buddy of mine in broadcasting who's an analyst who's like that son and I show was a teach tape speaking of Toreco and Collins.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm gonna I want to watch that back and watch the
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: you know, the alt 22 because we ground the tape, but also watched that TV broadcast because I heard it was I heard it was really excellent.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: I have not noticed, but I don't think they played, don't stop believing after I became at Levi Stadium, but they journey was there, and I'm confused somebody, I didn't get the information, but that wasn't Steve Perry, right?
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I remember
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: journey several years ago without him.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was them and I think it was them.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: This can't be right.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say it was them and look Brian that cannot be right.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: I may be I'm getting two different concerts mixed up.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: But I remember standing behind middle coffin.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: I won the giant, the San Francisco Giants and the playoffs and we didn't have tickets.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: We had media pass.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: We're just walking around and we end up on like the club level and we're just kind of standing there.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: And then we were kind of on screen.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: The next thing we know, Steve Perry stands up from his seat in front of us.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: And he has a microphone.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: And he's singing Don't Stop Believe in For Giants Fans.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we're like, we're on, you know, we're in the background.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what is called, we're every.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: So they, you know, they had the concert at halftime of the nighter game Don't Stop Believe.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: And they play it after the game.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_00]: The funny thing is I got home in my wife.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: They just put the baby to bed.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: And we were talking.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: I said, did they show that?
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, they showed it on TV.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: What are some was born six and a half weeks ago?
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they say, hey, you can bring music, play some music, whatever.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: And so there's a bunch of music playing, and he was born during tone stop believing.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe it's a sign.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely thought of that.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: That was the song that wasn't, we didn't queue up the song for the birth.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: It just so happened that that song was, was playing.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, I don't think it's don't stop believing with this latter team.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's more like, are you dare start believing?
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: What do they have to do?
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: You beat Seattle this week.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: How can it, how can an ambient conversation?
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: So, anyway, the, oh, the one thing I didn't mention McAfrey, 398 touches now that you're which is five shy of his career high of four or three.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: How did he look so good?
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: He looked amazing, 41-yard carry for Christian, insured that the 49ers wouldn't go through the regular season with the longest one of the year being Brock produced 26-yard running against Tennessee two weeks ago.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, it was a night, I think that it was a performance that it was, it was a performance that matched up with like the way I felt about Christian's ear.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you look at his yards per carry and it didn't match up what I thought his performance was.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: And this was different.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I think the weather, what is the weather in Santa Clara?
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: This weekend's, right now it's supposed to rain again.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, the rains supposed to break Sunday.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: So significant, significant that, you know, this game is on Saturday night instead of Sunday.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think it, I do think it favors the 49ers.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I know that the Niners are, this is interesting, the Niners are, Russia, yeah, so the Niners are third worst in the league, the 3.8 yards per carry, you know, that feels to me, maybe I should do a split of like late season and then now, but that that feels like a kind of a stale stat, you know, if I think back on.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: If I think back on the way this year has played out.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: So, all right, that's it for this.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for hanging.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: Talk soon.
