- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:19Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:22Speaker 1: a hater. We got some NFL coaching moves to talk about.
- 0:25Speaker 1: We'll get to them in a second, and I'm going
- 0:27Speaker 1: to be honest with you. We are currently recording at
- 0:29Speaker 1: 921 Eastern Time.
- 0:30Speaker 2: And.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We're going to wait a little while before we talk
- 0:37Speaker 1: about the coaches because we want to give a little
- 0:41Speaker 1: bit more time for people to get fired. All right,
- 0:43Speaker 1: I don't know what this says about me, what this
- 0:46Speaker 1: says about us, but I was watching the TV before
- 0:49Speaker 1: we came in here. Adam Schefter had to get up
- 0:52Speaker 1: and get off the set and go take phone calls
- 0:55Speaker 1: in the middle of the show, which, I mean, I
- 0:57Speaker 1: got to say is a little weird, but whatever.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Interesting television for sure.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It is, but the thing is, like, whenever he come
- 1:04Speaker 1: back is real disappointing if somebody ain't get fired. And
- 1:08Speaker 1: that's that, and that like, I don't feel that bad.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Cause they going to get their money.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Correct.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Right. Like it's not the problem with getting fired. Isn't
- 1:18Speaker 1: getting fired. is where my check at?
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Right? Like, that's all this comes down to. Where my
- 1:26Speaker 1: check at? And if they're like, yo, but the check's
- 1:27Speaker 1: still going to come, they're like, you know, it's a
- 1:29Speaker 1: big deal for your kids and everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever, man.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I mean, when Pete Carroll gets fired in the next
- 1:36Speaker 3: couple hours, you know, no one's going to feel sorry
- 1:40Speaker 3: for his family. He's fine. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We ain't got time to wait for the sun to
- 1:43Speaker 1: come up in Las Vegas before we start doing this show. Like,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I think we all feel pretty confident. that he is
- 1:48Speaker 1: going to wind up getting fired. But we'll get to
- 1:51Speaker 1: the fired people in just a second. One of them
- 1:53Speaker 1: we think eventually will be Jim Harbaugh.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:56Speaker 1: John Harbaugh. Big difference. Boy, this is the Jordan-Justin Jefferson
- 2:01Speaker 1: situation all over the game, except the consequences are much
- 2:03Speaker 1: more serious in terms of what phrasing we happen to choose. But,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I mean, we had talked about their Ravens steal this game. Well,
- 2:12Speaker 1: I guess we didn't talk about it on the show
- 2:13Speaker 1: because we just got off taking a couple weeks off.
- 2:14Speaker 1: But we had talked about it beforehand. The possibility of
- 2:17Speaker 1: a loser leaves town match in that week 18 matchup, right?
- 2:20Speaker 1: And it really came down to the last playoff spot
- 2:23Speaker 1: was who was going to win that game and who
- 2:25Speaker 1: was going to lose it. And I'll be honest with you.
- 2:31Speaker 1: If the Steelers had lost that game... I don't even
- 2:34Speaker 1: know what they would have let Mike Tomlin come and
- 2:36Speaker 1: talk to the players. I mean, they probably would have
- 2:39Speaker 1: because it would have been somewhat beneath his dignity to
- 2:41Speaker 1: not allow him to do that. But they let Lamar
- 2:45Speaker 1: and the Ravens just get huge chunk plays walking down
- 2:49Speaker 1: the field on them in the fourth quarter in a
- 2:52Speaker 1: way where if your job is on the line and
- 2:55Speaker 1: these sorts of things happen, you're not going to have
- 2:58Speaker 1: a job. Right? Like that's the game. That's how that
- 3:03Speaker 1: happens to work. Instead, it wound up being the Ravens who,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you know, let a pretty nondescript offense take them down
- 3:13Speaker 1: the field, and then we don't talk about this nearly enough, Ryan.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I guess it's because we don't think about the Ravens
- 3:18Speaker 1: as being one of these star-crossed kind of teams, and
- 3:20Speaker 1: that's fine, but they got a long track record of
- 3:23Speaker 1: everything going wrong at the end, right? When Lee Evans
- 3:26Speaker 1: dropped that pass way back when, and then Lee Evans
- 3:30Speaker 1: dropped the pass, and then Billy Cundiff missed the kick.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:34Speaker 1: This kick that they just missed with the rookie in
- 3:37Speaker 1: this game, Zay Flowers with the way he fumbled up
- 3:40Speaker 1: the game while they still had a chance. against the
- 3:42Speaker 1: Chiefs in 2023? What happened last year with Mark Andrews?
- 3:46Speaker 3: Right. And you have to remember, John Harbaugh has this
- 3:50Speaker 3: insane record. I think it's now 18 double-digit leads blown.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, which he added to last night.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But if this was Boston in the 1990s? Right. we
- 3:59Speaker 1: would be talking about like, if this was back in
- 4:01Speaker 1: the day, man, somebody would have brought a goat to
- 4:04Speaker 1: the stadium, you know, like all kinds of things. It
- 4:06Speaker 1: had been the curse of, of, of, I don't even know.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Right. Sports debate topic.
- 4:10Speaker 4: There is.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Do you believe curses are real? Yes.
- 4:14Speaker 1: It had all been, it would have all been there
- 4:15Speaker 1: for the things that had happened with them. And Lamar
- 4:18Speaker 1: Jackson is in this somewhat interesting space to me. And
- 4:21Speaker 1: I'm asking, I don't know if you remember this. Okay. 2010,
- 4:25Speaker 1: 2010 NBA playoffs, second round game five, Celtics, Cavaliers. It's
- 4:32Speaker 1: hard to argue that LeBron... Well, LeBron quit, yes. It's
- 4:34Speaker 1: hard to say he didn't quit. It looked very much
- 4:36Speaker 1: like he quit. He was so good that he looked
- 4:39Speaker 1: quit-ish in game six. With a triple-double. Right, right. It's
- 4:43Speaker 1: hard for me to say he quit when he got
- 4:45Speaker 1: the triple-double, right? But I saw where people are coming from. 2011,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I don't think he quit. I just think they ran
- 4:51Speaker 1: out of gas. It was, yeah, it was all here.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Like it was a, it was a lot for him.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And that version of him reminds me a lot of
- 4:59Speaker 1: what we've seen in Lamar Jackson and a lot of
- 5:01Speaker 1: these playoffs where he's come up short, where you've seen
- 5:03Speaker 1: the stress, right? You've seen him coming to the sideline
- 5:06Speaker 1: and slamming the helmet and everything else, right? Like he
- 5:09Speaker 1: gets tight. I think enough has happened for us to
- 5:12Speaker 1: say that with a measure of confidence. Last year against
- 5:15Speaker 1: Buffalo was tight early, brought it back together, and I
- 5:19Speaker 1: thought if you were a Ravens fan, you had to
- 5:21Speaker 1: feel good about that, right? That he did not become
- 5:23Speaker 1: imprisoned by whatever was going on in his head. He
- 5:26Speaker 1: shook it off, and then, of course, Mark Andrews was like.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I don't want to win.
- 5:30Speaker 1: What's with you talking about? I don't want to win.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It wasn't that.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I remember people thinking that somehow there was a Trumpy
- 5:38Speaker 1: element to what had gone on. I don't remember exactly why.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Yes, I don't remember either.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I can't remember exactly what went down, but it was
- 5:46Speaker 1: a lot of people who were saying that they thought
- 5:50Speaker 1: that he chose country over party. He chose country over TV.
- 5:56Speaker 1: In that moment, I wish I could remember the details,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but I remember and somebody y'all gonna get in these
- 6:02Speaker 1: YouTube comments. Y'all gonna talk about it. But I remember
- 6:06Speaker 1: joking with people about it and then realizing in the
- 6:09Speaker 1: replies that they weren't joking.
- 6:11Speaker 3: No, that's the thing when you start alleging conspiracy theories.
- 6:13Speaker 3: There's always people who really believe it.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, no. But that was, it was tense times, Ryan.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:19Speaker 1: This is after the, this is around inauguration. Yeah, this
- 6:24Speaker 1: is a tough situation for the people or anything. But
- 6:27Speaker 1: this game, Lamar Jackson, I saw a stat. And of course,
- 6:31Speaker 1: this is like, you know, this is what I call
- 6:33Speaker 1: a database stat where somebody just takes everything from the game,
- 6:35Speaker 1: puts it into a database and asks it to do
- 6:37Speaker 1: calls and like what's never happened before. but this is
- 6:40Speaker 1: the first time anybody had taken the lead in the
- 6:42Speaker 1: fourth quarter with two plays over 50 yards, and they
- 6:46Speaker 1: still lost the game?
- 6:48Speaker 3: Man, that feels impossible.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Now, I want to be very clear about this. Good
- 6:53Speaker 1: on Lamar Jackson for making those throws, but it would
- 6:57Speaker 1: be like me throwing the ball to somebody in my
- 6:59Speaker 1: apartment right now. Where nobody is, nobody else is. Like, like,
- 7:05Speaker 1: Zay Flowers was butt naked open. I don't know what
- 7:08Speaker 1: the Steelers were playing, right? Zay Flowers out there, butt
- 7:11Speaker 1: naked open, but the plays were getting made. The Ravens
- 7:14Speaker 1: got it done. And that's why I'm saying that if
- 7:17Speaker 1: the Steelers had lost that game, it would have been
- 7:21Speaker 1: really hard not to fire Mike Tomlin. In fact, if
- 7:24Speaker 1: I was the Steelers, I might have even considered being like, hey, hey, hey, everybody, fans, fans,
- 7:29Speaker 1: if you could please stay in your seats. We have
- 7:32Speaker 1: a very special ceremony. Come on out here, Mike. You
- 7:35Speaker 1: didn't know we were going to do this. No, no, no, no.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's okay. Chill out, chill out, chill out. Look whose
- 7:42Speaker 1: name is in the ring of honor.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I thought you were going to give him the watch.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I guess we could do that next. Hold on, hold on,
- 7:50Speaker 1: hold on. We're not finished. We're not finished. Look at this.
- 7:53Speaker 1: It's black and it's gold and it's got diamonds in it. Yeah,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you like that, don't you? Come on, come on. Come on,
- 7:59Speaker 1: bring your wife and kids out. Come on down to
- 8:00Speaker 1: the field. Dad needs you right now. Dad's going to
- 8:03Speaker 1: need a hug.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Right?
- 8:04Speaker 1: Like, you go ahead and do that right then and there.
- 8:07Speaker 1: The players on the sideline, you do that shit like
- 8:09Speaker 1: they did when Krzyzewski retired.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Remember when they lost? Yes. And then they still made
- 8:14Speaker 1: the kids sit out there? Oh, my God. That'll never
- 8:19Speaker 1: get old.
- 8:20Speaker 3: And I think that's interesting with Lamar, right, is, like,
- 8:23Speaker 3: similar to LeBron, we have all this simmering reporting about
- 8:27Speaker 3: his contract and renegotiating and figuring out his future and
- 8:30Speaker 3: his un-nappy... And then he comes out and has, I know,
- 8:35Speaker 3: a weird end to the season.
- 8:36Speaker 1: But this was actually, this is what I meant to
- 8:39Speaker 1: say when it relates to LeBron. And I don't know
- 8:41Speaker 1: if you remember this, but in 2012, where he was
- 8:46Speaker 1: comically good, right? Like they came off that lockout and
- 8:49Speaker 1: 2012 and 2013 LeBron James. 2012 is the, is that's
- 8:51Speaker 1: the 23 or 24 game win streak, correct? Correct. I
- 8:59Speaker 1: think that's 2013. 2013 is the second year, yeah. Yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 1: but it was what happened in 2012, though. They had
- 9:07Speaker 1: a run of games because I don't for those of
- 9:09Speaker 1: you who aren't old enough to remember this or who
- 9:11Speaker 1: weren't around. America has never been fixated on one sports
- 9:15Speaker 1: team the way we were on the Miami Heat for
- 9:16Speaker 1: those four years. Nothing has ever been the same. They
- 9:19Speaker 1: were A1 on highly questionable basically every game they played
- 9:24Speaker 1: unless it was the Super Bowl. It was that level.
- 9:27Speaker 1: But they were playing a lot of games that were
- 9:29Speaker 1: coming down late and LeBron was hitting a lot of
- 9:33Speaker 1: game winning shots except they were losing the games.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Right?
- 9:37Speaker 1: Like, it was these shots with two seconds left, and
- 9:39Speaker 1: LeBron is nailing them week after week after week. But
- 9:44Speaker 1: none of them counted, at least in terms in the
- 9:46Speaker 1: eyes of people who questioned whether or not he was clutch.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Because then they would come back and somebody would hit, like,
- 9:50Speaker 1: a half-court shot or, like, a fadeaway 27-footer.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember this. I was watching. I mean, I
- 9:55Speaker 3: was in college, so I was watching a lot of
- 9:56Speaker 3: NBA basketball and a lot of sports TV.
- 9:58Speaker 5: Yes.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I mean, it just carried. happening over and over again
- 10:01Speaker 1: and that's what it feels like now with lamar like
- 10:03Speaker 1: they got he got it done against buffalo last year
- 10:06Speaker 1: but they lost the game he kind of pulled it
- 10:08Speaker 1: together against the chiefs the year before but they lost
- 10:11Speaker 1: the game and he made huge plays he was treating
- 10:14Speaker 1: the stealers like they were the like like the bangles
- 10:18Speaker 1: getting those plays and they still manage to lose they
- 10:21Speaker 1: got them down there in the field goal range and
- 10:25Speaker 1: they still manage to lose that game like that's a
- 10:31Speaker 1: tough goal it really really is but either he or
- 10:35Speaker 1: the coach has to go um i talked about this
- 10:38Speaker 1: on dominique foxworth's podcast the other day um I believe,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and if you have not seen the Mike Preston reporting,
- 10:44Speaker 1: Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun, he's talking about Lamar
- 10:46Speaker 1: Jackson falling asleep in meetings and all the changes that
- 10:50Speaker 1: the Ravens have made to work around him and how
- 10:53Speaker 1: it's caused this kind of simmering sort of feud between
- 10:56Speaker 1: him and John Harbaugh. And the truth is, if you
- 10:59Speaker 1: have to pick one of these, it's no question. You
- 11:02Speaker 1: take Lamar. This is it. Lamar Jackson, who, by the way,
- 11:05Speaker 1: has no more guaranteed money. left in his contract. I
- 11:09Speaker 1: have seen the reporting that his mother, who is his
- 11:13Speaker 1: de facto agent, would like for him to be back
- 11:17Speaker 1: in Miami. I have heard other people say the same thing.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I'm just saying, we trying to get back to Miami
- 11:25Speaker 1: so we can handle some business. Unless your business is cocaine. Nah, nah,
- 11:33Speaker 1: that's not, that's not wise. It's going to throw it
- 11:37Speaker 1: out there. That's not wise. So, yeah, my guess, John
- 11:41Speaker 1: Harbaugh is going to be out of there. And I
- 11:46Speaker 1: take somewhat of an example from my own life. If
- 11:48Speaker 1: it does happen, you know, I did a lot. I
- 11:52Speaker 1: spent a lot of time of my career working on
- 11:55Speaker 1: Around the Horn. And, you know, it's obviously very, very
- 11:59Speaker 1: important to where I wound up, a reason that a
- 12:02Speaker 1: lot of you even have any idea who I am.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:04Speaker 1: It's a very important show to me, Around the Horn.
- 12:07Speaker 1: had been on for, I want to call it 21
- 12:11Speaker 1: or 22 years when they decided to let it go.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And I would talk to Tony Reale and I would
- 12:20Speaker 1: talk to Aaron Solomon, who was the coordinator producer of
- 12:24Speaker 1: the show. And when it was all over, I always
- 12:27Speaker 1: said congratulations to them, but I never said, I'm sorry.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I never said that I felt bad about the show
- 12:33Speaker 1: ending because it's just like, what, 23 years? You know
- 12:37Speaker 1: what I mean? Like you get 22 years in this business.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I congratulate you on getting 22 years. Like you can't
- 12:43Speaker 1: really lock in on what didn't go right at the
- 12:46Speaker 1: end when you got to do this for 22 years.
- 12:50Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I did my show on
- 12:52Speaker 1: HBO and we got two years. And do you know
- 12:54Speaker 1: how excited I was about the second? You know what
- 12:57Speaker 1: I mean? Like this is what it is. John Harbaugh
- 13:01Speaker 1: has worked that job for 18 years. Congratulations to you,
- 13:07Speaker 1: big dog. If they let you go, it is not sad.
- 13:10Speaker 1: It is not sad at all if they let you go.
- 13:12Speaker 1: You have been victorious in the course of this. You
- 13:15Speaker 1: might be a little bit salty that the guy who
- 13:17Speaker 1: saved your fucking job seven years ago is the reason
- 13:20Speaker 1: that you got fired. I know why maybe that wouldn't
- 13:23Speaker 1: feel so good, but what did I just say? You
- 13:26Speaker 1: know what I mean? Good for you. And by the way,
- 13:30Speaker 1: remember this. When the Steelers have to play the Houston Texans,
- 13:36Speaker 1: At the crib, and Ryan, I don't think that's going
- 13:40Speaker 1: to work out well for the Steelers at all. Like,
- 13:43Speaker 1: good for them that they'll get Metcalf back, but the
- 13:45Speaker 1: Texans are your great example of a team that caught
- 13:48Speaker 1: up to the point differential, right? A team whose record
- 13:51Speaker 1: caught up to all the advanced numbers.
- 13:53Speaker 3: If I was Aaron Rodgers and I'm out there looking,
- 13:56Speaker 3: not trying to get hit, the thing I don't want
- 13:58Speaker 3: to see is Will Anderson on one side and Daniil
- 14:01Speaker 3: Hunter on the other side and Derek Stingley guarding my
- 14:04Speaker 3: best receiver.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yes. Oh, this is... Are these guys LSU's backup team?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Well, that's two LSU guys and, I mean, Williamson was
- 14:13Speaker 3: an Alabama All-Star.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yes, he was.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah, so, like, that is... And again, D'Amico Ryan scheming
- 14:20Speaker 3: up how to stop my very bland offense.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the Arthur Smith special. Hey, man, Arthur Smith
- 14:26Speaker 1: figured out how to hand it off to the tight
- 14:27Speaker 1: end now, boy. All right. Like, that's what he's got.
- 14:32Speaker 1: By the way, nobody... I give Arthur Smith credit in
- 14:35Speaker 1: the sense that I don't know if I was Arthur Smith,
- 14:37Speaker 1: if I would have a real job.
- 14:40Speaker 3: No.
- 14:41Speaker 1: No. And for those of you who don't know, Arthur
- 14:43Speaker 1: Smith's father is the founder of Federal Express.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I think it's his grandfather.
- 14:47Speaker 4: No.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It's the father. Yes. His daddy?
- 14:54Speaker 1: That's his dad. And so it's so interesting because Arthur
- 14:56Speaker 1: went to Carolina. He was at Carolina in the time
- 14:59Speaker 1: that I was there. They had another son named Cannon,
- 15:02Speaker 1: who I want to say played quarterback at Miami. And
- 15:05Speaker 1: I don't know how good any of these guys were,
- 15:07Speaker 1: but I imagine they had to be the hottest recruits
- 15:10Speaker 1: because you're just like, yo, man, we can get you
- 15:12Speaker 1: on board here. We got a chance that they're going
- 15:14Speaker 1: to give us some money.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Right?
- 15:17Speaker 1: Like, just, you know, what's a little bit of money
- 15:18Speaker 1: to him is all the money in the world to us. Like,
- 15:21Speaker 1: just you watch out. When Memphis football gets good, if
- 15:24Speaker 1: it ever happens, it's going to be because of that.
- 15:27Speaker 1: But anyway, yeah, D'Amico on one side, Arthur Smith, look,
- 15:30Speaker 1: say what you want about Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin is
- 15:32Speaker 1: not beating you with scheme. No. On offense or defense.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:36Speaker 1: That's not the game that he plays. That's not what
- 15:39Speaker 1: it is that he provides. And I think they are
- 15:41Speaker 1: going to be out-talented in this game they're going to play.
- 15:45Speaker 1: And their quarterback is a million years old. Do not
- 15:48Speaker 1: believe that he is out of the woods, but do
- 15:50Speaker 1: believe this. I couldn't believe how happy he was about
- 15:53Speaker 1: winning that division. Did you see how happy they were
- 15:55Speaker 1: at the end of that game? Like, has he maybe
- 15:58Speaker 1: recalibrated expectations that they felt like that was a win?
- 16:01Speaker 3: I mean, that looked like a guy who thought he
- 16:05Speaker 3: was coaching for his job. Yes. Like, I mean, there
- 16:08Speaker 3: was some rumblings about some of, you know, whether or
- 16:12Speaker 3: not they'd renew his contract, whether or not he was
- 16:13Speaker 3: already looking at television as another option. Like, that looked
- 16:17Speaker 3: like a guy who was, you know, again, thought he
- 16:20Speaker 3: saved his job last night.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Yeah, but here's the thing about that to me. We
- 16:28Speaker 1: never know what they're doing. Every time we thought the
- 16:30Speaker 1: block was hot on Mike Tomlin, it wasn't. They were like,
- 16:34Speaker 1: oh yeah, we extended his contract 18 months ago. Y'all
- 16:36Speaker 1: ain't know? We're not. I do think the Steelers understand
- 16:41Speaker 1: this part. If they would be changing coaches, it would
- 16:45Speaker 1: be for the sake of doing so.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:47Speaker 1: It would do it be.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Probably, especially this cycle when there's not, it's not like
- 16:51Speaker 3: they could go out and like change their whole identity
- 16:53Speaker 3: and get Ben Johnson like last year. Right.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Right. This is what I'm saying. Like who, who do
- 16:57Speaker 1: you want to get and be, and this is an
- 16:58Speaker 1: important part. What makes you think they want to change
- 17:00Speaker 1: their identity?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Like the identity of this franchise is not a byproduct
- 17:05Speaker 1: of Mike Tomlin. That's coming from up top. Like Mike
- 17:08Speaker 1: Tomlin was a, like a four, three Tony Dungy sort
- 17:11Speaker 1: of dude on defense. And they brought him in and
- 17:13Speaker 1: were like, yes, you're going to run our defense. The
- 17:16Speaker 1: defense that we've been running for all this time. It's
- 17:18Speaker 1: a little cheaper to get linebackers than it is to
- 17:20Speaker 1: get defensive ends.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So yeah, we're going to, we're, we're, we're going to
- 17:23Speaker 1: do that. Like you can make this change, but who's,
- 17:28Speaker 1: who's Mike Tomlin for them. Becomes the question. And you
- 17:31Speaker 1: know what? Put a pin in that thought. Three, two, one.
- 17:41Speaker 3: All right.
- 17:41Speaker 1: So now we get into talking about our Black Monday conversation.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And I got to be honest with you, at least
- 17:49Speaker 1: as of this moment at 938 Eastern Time on Monday morning, Ryan,
- 17:53Speaker 1: Monday ain't been as black as we thought it was
- 17:54Speaker 1: going to be. So far, just Raheem Morris.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there were some other people who, you know,
- 18:01Speaker 3: might go down, but they haven't gone down yet.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so for the Black Monday with black and italics,
- 18:07Speaker 1: we got, as far as candidates go, I don't, we
- 18:13Speaker 1: got six, but like, it's kind of like five. Yes,
- 18:19Speaker 1: I'm talking about Mike McDonald.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Mike McDaniel.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Mike McDonald is actually doing a very good job with
- 18:27Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks.
- 18:28Speaker 3: My one coach of the year.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Yes, yes. And has anybody asked Mike McDonald of the
- 18:33Speaker 1: Seahawks if he could sing? Anytime you're here. Anybody ask
- 18:38Speaker 1: him to do that? No? Hey, all I'm saying is this.
- 18:45Speaker 1: If Mike McDonald can sing like Michael McDonald, he might
- 18:49Speaker 1: wind up on the Black Monday list in his own way,
- 18:52Speaker 1: kind of like Michael McDonald did.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Michael McDonald still in the league, still touring.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Yes, he is. Yes, he is. By the way, if
- 18:58Speaker 1: Mike McDonald can sing as good as Michael McDonald, we
- 19:01Speaker 1: might trade Mike McDaniel for Mike McDonald and maybe even
- 19:06Speaker 1: give you guys a late round pick to go along
- 19:09Speaker 1: with it. But anyway, Mike McDaniel might still be keeping
- 19:14Speaker 1: the job. And do you think Steven Ross knew it
- 19:20Speaker 1: when he hired him?
- 19:24Speaker 3: I'm sure he was told, but he might have doubted it.
- 19:26Speaker 1: He was told about who? The only person that could
- 19:29Speaker 1: tell him is Mike McDaniel. Like, when they went through,
- 19:32Speaker 1: when he got the list from the Fritz Pollard people,
- 19:35Speaker 1: and he was like, hey, you guys got a mistake here.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Someone's in the wrong column?
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it says Mike McDaniel. Like, what are you talking about?
- 19:42Speaker 1: We just met him. He just came in here. Like,
- 19:44Speaker 1: that's not... Like, no chance. Like, Mike McDaniel does not
- 19:47Speaker 1: have to own this. I think we have to give him...
- 19:49Speaker 1: I don't think people give him nearly enough credit for
- 19:52Speaker 1: the fact that telling us that he was black, he
- 19:55Speaker 1: didn't have anything to gain from that in his industry whatsoever.
- 19:58Speaker 1: He chose to. We might go to his house and
- 20:00Speaker 1: find out that, like, he might be like Louis Armstrong.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Little did you know, he hates the white man's guts.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Who's to say? Have no idea. Anyway, our other candidates
- 20:13Speaker 1: in this discussion are Mike Tomlin, who not quite out
- 20:17Speaker 1: of the woods yet. Domingo Ryans, you straight. We saw
- 20:23Speaker 1: what happened with Raheem. I feel like I missed one,
- 20:26Speaker 1: but I'm kind of scanning through the list really fast. Oh,
- 20:29Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Who.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I really don't understand how you justify not firing him
- 20:36Speaker 1: after the team didn't get no interceptions the whole year.
- 20:39Speaker 1: And they look, they mailed it in for the rest
- 20:42Speaker 1: of the year, like when they traded Sauce Gardner and
- 20:44Speaker 1: they traded Quentin Williams. But, Ron, I couldn't believe how
- 20:47Speaker 1: and we've been living here for a long time. I
- 20:50Speaker 1: could not believe how bad they were.
- 20:51Speaker 3: I mean, again, we already threw around the quit word
- 20:55Speaker 3: that team this month. I mean, I don't know how
- 20:58Speaker 3: much I would try if Brady Cook was my quarterback,
- 21:00Speaker 3: but that team.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Who was the quarterback?
- 21:03Speaker 3: Brady Cook.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Who is that?
- 21:05Speaker 3: He played for Missouri.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Like recently?
- 21:09Speaker 3: Yeah. I think he was a seventh round pick, but again. Wow.
- 21:13Speaker 3: I mean, again, you went from Justin Fields to Tyrod
- 21:17Speaker 3: Taylor to Brady Cook.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, man, if you had asked me if Brady
- 21:22Speaker 1: Cook was a quarterback for the New York Jets, I
- 21:26Speaker 1: the goaltender for the Winnipeg Jets, or the quarterback of
- 21:30Speaker 1: the Akron Zips. It could have been. You could have
- 21:35Speaker 1: told me that he was the hottest quarterback in the portal. Hell,
- 21:37Speaker 1: for all we know in NCAA rules, he might be
- 21:40Speaker 1: the hottest quarterback in the portal right now, baby. Like, yo,
- 21:42Speaker 1: they offering me a little bit more money to go
- 21:45Speaker 1: back to Mizzou, which y'all got to say about this.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But my question, if generally speaking, And this is why
- 21:54Speaker 1: the Raheem firing in Atlanta was a little strange because
- 21:57Speaker 1: they didn't quit.
- 21:59Speaker 3: They won four straight.
- 22:01Speaker 1: They won their last four to, by the way, finish
- 22:03Speaker 1: in a tie for the division lead while being eliminated
- 22:06Speaker 1: from the playoffs for the last month.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:09Speaker 1: That is a strange year as it went down. They
- 22:12Speaker 1: have a weird roster of somewhat mismatched parts. They still
- 22:18Speaker 1: haven't figured it. They got a quarterback problem. I don't
- 22:20Speaker 1: think there's any way around that. They have heavily invested
- 22:23Speaker 1: in a man whose body, Probably can't get in two
- 22:25Speaker 1: men whose body bodies limit what you could do. They
- 22:29Speaker 1: did a great job drafting this year and they got
- 22:31Speaker 1: a lot of good players on defense. But if you
- 22:34Speaker 1: look at that team, how exactly are you going to
- 22:36Speaker 1: make things better? Now, from what I could tell, though,
- 22:39Speaker 1: about the Falcons is. As is often the case, when
- 22:42Speaker 1: a coach get fired and the record doesn't look so bad,
- 22:45Speaker 1: the people who watch the team all the time are like, hey.
- 22:49Speaker 1: It had to be done. Like they were a team
- 22:53Speaker 1: that the more you watch them, the more you believe
- 22:56Speaker 1: that they were not well coached. And you kind of
- 22:58Speaker 1: know it when you see it. And quite frankly, Arthur
- 23:01Speaker 1: Blake is too old to be trying to be patient.
- 23:04Speaker 1: If he want to see what happens, like he don't
- 23:06Speaker 1: already put himself in the ring of honor, for example, right?
- 23:09Speaker 1: This is not, he ain't talk about no five-year plan.
- 23:15Speaker 3: I mean, he famously didn't bring in Belichick because he's like,
- 23:19Speaker 3: I don't want to, you know, Cycle through coaches two
- 23:21Speaker 3: years later and look what they're doing now. They're cycling
- 23:23Speaker 3: the coach and the GM.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Right. And by the way, they're getting hell for not
- 23:27Speaker 1: hiring Belichick.
- 23:28Speaker 3: And I'm like... They made the right decision.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Say it again?
- 23:30Speaker 3: Sounds like they made the right decision.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Yo, that's what I was about to say. Like, if
- 23:33Speaker 1: your look back on it was we could have had
- 23:34Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, what are you talking about?
- 23:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Like, were you not paying any... Here's my question. What
- 23:39Speaker 1: would Bill Belichick have done to Michael Pennix and Kirk
- 23:41Speaker 1: Cousins in a quarterback situation? Like, what... I think the
- 23:46Speaker 1: Falcons problems are somewhat fundamental. And by the way, the
- 23:49Speaker 1: Browns problems are similarly fundamental. The Colts decided to keep
- 23:53Speaker 1: Steichen and Chris Ballard. And I think in large part,
- 23:57Speaker 1: you had to look at what are we offering here?
- 24:00Speaker 1: Their quarterback situation is what are you going to put
- 24:03Speaker 1: Daniel Jones off the Achilles? You think that's going to
- 24:07Speaker 1: be the answer? Or, I mean, the best path to
- 24:10Speaker 1: save Steichen, saving his job is Anthony Richardson. The problem is,
- 24:14Speaker 1: is he going to be able to see? Like, literally,
- 24:17Speaker 1: after what happened with his face getting busted up and
- 24:19Speaker 1: everything else, like, who knows what happens next when it
- 24:23Speaker 1: comes to this guy? The Falcons. Pennix? I don't expect
- 24:27Speaker 1: Pennix to play next year.
- 24:28Speaker 3: I mean, it doesn't... You can only blow your knees
- 24:32Speaker 3: so many times.
- 24:32Speaker 1: That is correct, right? I don't imagine Kirk Cousins winds
- 24:36Speaker 1: up coming back. The Raiders, I got people asking me, like, yo,
- 24:42Speaker 1: so this Fernando Mendoza, like, is he what the Raiders need?
- 24:46Speaker 1: And Okay, I watched Mendoza. We'll talk a little bit
- 24:50Speaker 1: more about that game later. But I watched Mendoza there,
- 24:53Speaker 1: and Mendoza looks like something I've seen very many times,
- 24:56Speaker 1: which is a very good college quarterback. That is not–
- 25:00Speaker 1: I know what the number one pick in a draft
- 25:02Speaker 1: looked like. That ain't it. Like, even if you think
- 25:05Speaker 1: Cam Ward's not going to be that guy, you look
- 25:06Speaker 1: at Cam Ward with the Titans, and you're like, oh,
- 25:09Speaker 1: that guy was the number one pick in the draft. Like,
- 25:11Speaker 1: you see that. Mendoza? I don't know. I don't know
- 25:17Speaker 1: what you're going to do. But Pete's going to wind
- 25:19Speaker 1: up being out of there. Who else we think going
- 25:21Speaker 1: to wind up getting tossed on Nick Keister? Like, at
- 25:23Speaker 1: least with the Ravens, you better jump on that job
- 25:25Speaker 1: fast if you got that opportunity. Arizona, what are they
- 25:28Speaker 1: going to do? Like, I mean, I haven't heard about
- 25:30Speaker 1: if they're going to fire Gannon, but I don't know
- 25:32Speaker 1: how much longer they're going to keep doing that.
- 25:34Speaker 3: And apparently since Cincinnati, Joe Burrow and the receivers really
- 25:37Speaker 3: like Zach Taylor. And I don't, I don't know what
- 25:39Speaker 3: kind of, you know, me and they enjoy.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:42Speaker 1: But I feel like those guys need to be happy.
- 25:43Speaker 1: They got their money.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Shut the fuck up and let's figure something else out.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I can't believe that man's had that job as long
- 25:49Speaker 1: as he has.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I mean, the credit he's been to a Superbowl, but
- 25:53Speaker 1: nobody came away from that. Like, Hey man, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: we've really been underestimating that Zach Taylor. Nah, that's not.
- 25:59Speaker 1: That's not how that felt. Oh, Ty Bowles. I forgot
- 26:01Speaker 1: he was also in the italic Black Monday.
- 26:03Speaker 3: That's the one we forgot, yeah.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but they say they're going to keep everybody.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Good for him because he is not a great coach,
- 26:11Speaker 1: but he is a much better coach than he was
- 26:13Speaker 1: when he was with the Jets.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Oh, so much better.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, he learned some things. Like,
- 26:17Speaker 1: his OG is Bruce Arians. And he picked up some things. Anything.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Anybody else? Are we sure Matt LaFleur going to keep
- 26:24Speaker 1: his job if they go out there? I mean, they
- 26:26Speaker 1: were the seventh seed. They go out here and lose
- 26:27Speaker 1: to the Bears.
- 26:29Speaker 3: And the game they're favored in. Yeah.
- 26:31Speaker 1: By the way, that job, I would jump on that pronto.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Right.
- 26:36Speaker 3: And then another coach that might lose his job if
- 26:38Speaker 3: they lose is Sean McDermott. Yes. And I.
- 26:43Speaker 1: They've given it as long as it could go. But
- 26:44Speaker 1: they don't feel like a team that needs to fire
- 26:47Speaker 1: their coach. But what else are you going to do? Like,
- 26:52Speaker 1: if you're at the point of trying to make a
- 26:53Speaker 1: change to make this happen, I don't really know what
- 26:55Speaker 1: else you're going to do. Kevin O'Connell is not going
- 26:57Speaker 1: to get fired this year, but he's got to be
- 26:59Speaker 1: on the hot seat for next year, right?
- 27:01Speaker 3: I mean, they're going to have to bring in another quarterback,
- 27:03Speaker 3: and if he doesn't get it figured out. Like, the
- 27:05Speaker 3: part of the reason they let Sam Darnold go, and
- 27:07Speaker 3: someone else we're going to talk about later in the show,
- 27:11Speaker 3: Kevin O'Connell is the quarterback whisperer. He might be, but
- 27:15Speaker 3: he certainly didn't fix J.J. McCarthy.
- 27:18Speaker 1: They hate that kid. Did you see that press conference,
- 27:21Speaker 1: not this last game, but the week before, where McCarthy
- 27:24Speaker 1: did the gritty in the end zone, and apparently he
- 27:26Speaker 1: had been told not to do that?
- 27:29Speaker 3: I did not see that, no.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Okay, so he did a gritty into the end zone.
- 27:32Speaker 1: The coaches had told him not to do that, and
- 27:35Speaker 1: he said, well, they told me not to, so that
- 27:37Speaker 1: made me want to do it more. Son, you have
- 27:38Speaker 1: to grow up.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Right.
- 27:40Speaker 1: And did O'Connell have that conversation every day?
- 27:45Speaker 5: Right.
- 27:45Speaker 1: So O'Connell is talking after the game and he says
- 27:48Speaker 1: something about, yeah. And JJ, he, you know, he always
- 27:53Speaker 1: talks about that 40 yard dash that he brags about
- 27:56Speaker 1: how he didn't have to run. And I heard that.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And I was like, I said, there's a fossil podcast, too.
- 28:01Speaker 1: This is the way people talked about Austin Rivers when
- 28:03Speaker 1: he was at Duke. I'm just saying that to say
- 28:06Speaker 1: that they don't like him. And they are so sour
- 28:10Speaker 1: on him in a way. The guy's only been there for, like,
- 28:12Speaker 1: played for a year. He's been consistent. They are down
- 28:17Speaker 1: on him. But what are you going to do to
- 28:19Speaker 1: fix that? Who's arching and coming out? And by the way,
- 28:26Speaker 1: Nate Tice looks like he was right.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:29Speaker 1: He looks like he's the best of those guys.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Did you see that run?
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yes.
- 28:34Speaker 3: He's not fast for a man. He's fast, fast.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Dude, when people forget, he's not fast for a Manning
- 28:39Speaker 1: because the OG Manning was fast. Every day, Archie Manning
- 28:45Speaker 1: had to be so ashamed at how slow those last
- 28:49Speaker 1: two boys were.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Right, and the oldest boy was a wide receiver.
- 28:52Speaker 1: That's right. Coop was a wide receiver, and that is
- 28:55Speaker 1: Archie's dad. But no, this is in the Archie Manning archetype.
- 28:59Speaker 1: This right here. I think Archie was like, look, man.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I haven't been able to feel my left thumb for
- 29:05Speaker 1: 30 years. Cause all that running, learn how to do
- 29:07Speaker 1: the pocket son. It'll be, it'll be better for like,
- 29:10Speaker 1: I just, it's been so long. And Archie Manning is
- 29:13Speaker 1: a generation of so removed for me that people just
- 29:15Speaker 1: don't understand what the Manning thing actually is. No, no, no.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Arch is in line with the actual factual archetype of
- 29:22Speaker 1: the Manning quarterback, but he's not going to be in
- 29:26Speaker 1: this draft. There's a small chance. Trinidad Chambliss will be
- 29:29Speaker 1: in this draft, but he's small. Like, What is that
- 29:34Speaker 1: going to turn out to be? This is a weird year.
- 29:37Speaker 1: that if there ain't so many coaching jobs but remember
- 29:40Speaker 1: cleveland still got deshaun watson on the payroll next.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Year yeah we haven't even mentioned cleveland yes like i
- 29:46Speaker 3: mean stefansi got canned about a half an hour ago
- 29:48Speaker 3: and talk about a situation you do not want to
- 29:50Speaker 3: walk into.
- 29:50Speaker 1: No because hey man um shidora was good for vibes
- 29:56Speaker 1: he was bad at football It just wasn't like I've
- 29:59Speaker 1: heard the people make the argument that are watching him
- 30:01Speaker 1: that it was at it's obvious that he shouldn't have
- 30:03Speaker 1: been a fifth round pick. No, no, no. I don't
- 30:05Speaker 1: think that's true at all. I don't like it wasn't
- 30:09Speaker 1: an optimal situation. As I said from the very beginning,
- 30:12Speaker 1: of course, he wasn't set up for success. He played
- 30:14Speaker 1: for the Browns. I know it wasn't, but he did
- 30:19Speaker 1: seem like he was better than Dylan Gabriel. That that's
- 30:23Speaker 1: what they offer in you if you get that job.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Maybe you're the team that decides to figure out a
- 30:28Speaker 1: way to get Kyler Murray, for example. Like, I guess
- 30:31Speaker 1: I still say Trey Lance is there looking for somebody,
- 30:33Speaker 1: but there aren't many attractive jobs that are out there
- 30:40Speaker 1: to be taken. And we will see if that results
- 30:43Speaker 1: in teams deciding that they're not actually going to fire
- 30:47Speaker 1: their coaches. Maybe that's what it is. But it's going
- 30:54Speaker 1: to be bleak out there. However, it'll be bleak for
- 30:58Speaker 1: a job that'll pay you like $ 8, $ 9, $ 10 million.
- 31:02Speaker 1: It could be worse. Every Friday from 6 to 7.30,
- 31:11Speaker 1: it's NBA Happy Hour on FanDuel, your pregame for the weekend.
- 31:15Speaker 1: We're talking limited time specials you won't want to miss. Boosts, bonuses, surprises,
- 31:21Speaker 1: all dropping in the app during Happy Hour. So before
- 31:24Speaker 1: tip off, check the FanDuel app to see the week's special.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Then make your move before the shot clock expires at

- 31:36Speaker 1: of Friday energy. That's NBA Happy Hour every Friday from

- 33:37Speaker 3: All right, Bo, quick stories from over the weekend. The
- 33:46Speaker 3: transfer portal is open. Over one-third of D1 players are
- 33:51Speaker 3: in it. Texas Tech just got the biggest recruit in
- 33:56Speaker 3: the portal, a guy named Brendan Sorsby from Cincinnati. What
- 34:00Speaker 3: is your reaction to this? Who?
- 34:04Speaker 1: And look, this is the thing for me with the
- 34:05Speaker 1: transfer portal, because it's added this interesting wrinkle in terms
- 34:09Speaker 1: of being a fan or observer of college football. Like
- 34:12Speaker 1: it's free agency now.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:14Speaker 1: But it's a different kind of free agency. It's free
- 34:17Speaker 1: agency that anybody can choose to participate in. Anybody can
- 34:22Speaker 1: get out here and just be like, oh, OK, I'm
- 34:24Speaker 1: out here. The problem is, right. I can't keep up
- 34:27Speaker 1: with all who all these people are.
- 34:29Speaker 3: Of course not.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I don't know who they all are. I don't think
- 34:33Speaker 1: it's necessarily wise. I think that there's a segment of
- 34:38Speaker 1: guys that this is your chance to get some money.
- 34:41Speaker 1: And so you're going to go ahead and get, especially
- 34:43Speaker 1: with a lot of these quarterbacks, right? You get paid
- 34:46Speaker 1: more for being a college quarterback than you get paid
- 34:48Speaker 1: for being a backup quarterback in the NFL. This is
- 34:52Speaker 1: your chance to get that bread in an economy that's
- 34:54Speaker 1: not going to provide many opportunities for you to get
- 34:56Speaker 1: a couple million dollars ever, right? So I get it
- 35:01Speaker 1: if you have your opportunities to go and to make
- 35:04Speaker 1: the moves. But everybody's in this portal, man. Fran Brown,
- 35:08Speaker 1: the coach at Syracuse, made the point like we're all
- 35:09Speaker 1: swapping seconds, right? Your number twos for my number twos.
- 35:13Speaker 1: There are situations that make perfect sense. For example, when
- 35:16Speaker 1: Jameson Williams transferred from Ohio State because they had three
- 35:19Speaker 1: first round wide receivers over him. So we had to
- 35:22Speaker 1: go to Alabama to be a top 15 pick and
- 35:24Speaker 1: wide receivers. Yeah. Yeah. We get that. Right. You know,
- 35:28Speaker 1: if you are behind somebody at quarterback where you don't
- 35:32Speaker 1: think you're going to get your opportunity to play. OK, cool.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Go ahead and do that. I still think for most
- 35:39Speaker 1: of you guys, you need to understand it. The long
- 35:41Speaker 1: money for you is to stay at one place and
- 35:45Speaker 1: build some relationships with some rich people. And those people
- 35:48Speaker 1: will take care of you and make sure that you
- 35:50Speaker 1: got a job. for the rest of your life.
- 35:52Speaker 3: Rich people who are clearly out here willing to spend money.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Yes, but this is what it is now, man. The
- 35:59Speaker 1: game is to get into that network and to have
- 36:03Speaker 1: some people who look out for you. That's the way
- 36:05Speaker 1: it goes. But I look up and it's these alerts
- 36:08Speaker 1: and trackers and everything. You know what it feels like, Ryan?
- 36:11Speaker 1: It's like trying to keep up with recruiting. Right.
- 36:14Speaker 3: But it's even more condensed.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Right. It's even more condensed, but it's still just as
- 36:19Speaker 1: many truly relevant people.
- 36:21Speaker 4: Right.
- 36:21Speaker 1: So if you are just as an observer, if you're
- 36:24Speaker 1: trying to keep up with recruiting, you can really keep
- 36:27Speaker 1: up with it on two levels. Keep up with like
- 36:30Speaker 1: the top 100 list kind of sorta. Or your school.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Your own school. Right. And then from your school, you
- 36:35Speaker 1: will kind of find out where different people are going.
- 36:38Speaker 1: like the offshoots of the guys that you're looking at.
- 36:40Speaker 1: But that's about the only way that you can keep
- 36:42Speaker 1: up with this. There's no way in the world I
- 36:44Speaker 1: can keep up with every goddamn player in the NCAA
- 36:46Speaker 1: because they all might be including division twos and division
- 36:52Speaker 1: ones and everything else. I can't do it.
- 36:57Speaker 3: No, it's insane. I don't think anyone, when they thought
- 37:01Speaker 3: the transfer portal was created, that, again, nearly a third
- 37:05Speaker 3: of D1 players would be in it.
- 37:07Speaker 1: And so but what's going to wind up happening is
- 37:08Speaker 1: two things. One, a bunch of these young guys are
- 37:11Speaker 1: going to wind up with musical chairs is over with
- 37:13Speaker 1: no place to go. Right. And I understand the argument
- 37:18Speaker 1: that is made that a lot of these guys are
- 37:21Speaker 1: being forced off their scholarships. No, I think some of
- 37:24Speaker 1: these guys are being forced off their scholarships. I don't
- 37:27Speaker 1: know how much of them, how many of them are
- 37:29Speaker 1: necessarily being told there won't be a place for you here.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I will make the note, though, that there is one
- 37:37Speaker 1: guy who has made it fairly clear that he's trying
- 37:39Speaker 1: to stick with his own guys and not run people
- 37:42Speaker 1: off of their scholarships. And the results haven't been that great.
- 37:45Speaker 1: And y'all laugh at him all the time. And that's Dabo. Right.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Dabo's trying to run a program that keeps it together
- 37:52Speaker 1: the way y'all say it should be kept together. And
- 37:55Speaker 1: he winds up being ridiculed. And then when the guys
- 37:58Speaker 1: get out here, you mad at the other people for
- 38:00Speaker 1: forcing them out. You understand what I mean? Bottom line.
- 38:04Speaker 1: And I'll keep it moving from here. I said this
- 38:06Speaker 1: from the beginning. I mean, you can go find I've
- 38:09Speaker 1: written this in places you can find 15 years ago.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I was saying this. There were changes that needed to
- 38:13Speaker 1: be made because the previous status quo was morally wrong
- 38:18Speaker 1: and indefensible. But we were not going to like what
- 38:22Speaker 1: we got as a result. And I personally don't like
- 38:27Speaker 1: what we've gotten as a result. You could argue that
- 38:30Speaker 1: in some ways the football and the sports have gotten
- 38:32Speaker 1: better and they're better players. Guys are more likely to stay. Okay, cool.
- 38:36Speaker 1: But it's too hard to follow, man. It's too hard
- 38:38Speaker 1: to follow. And there is a certain charm to the
- 38:43Speaker 1: idea of going to senior night and being like, yo,
- 38:46Speaker 1: I remember what it was like when he first got here.
- 38:49Speaker 1: And this is what it is now. That's a big
- 38:51Speaker 1: part of the appeal of this. And that's gone, man.
- 38:56Speaker 1: This is just something to watch. It's becoming more and
- 38:58Speaker 1: more simply something to watch on television, which I guess
- 39:03Speaker 1: is what these conferences are, just basically TV negotiating packages, right?
- 39:06Speaker 1: That's what it is. And you've taken something that has
- 39:09Speaker 1: a great cultural significance, and maybe it will have this
- 39:11Speaker 1: significance forever. We will see. But you just basically reduced
- 39:14Speaker 1: it to a television show, or that is what we
- 39:16Speaker 1: are in the process of doing. And I don't think
- 39:18Speaker 1: that's good business.
- 39:20Speaker 4: All right.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Speaking of a big TV show, Indiana blew off Alabama's
- 39:23Speaker 3: doors at the Rose Bowl, 38-3. Bo, does this say
- 39:27Speaker 3: more about Indiana or Alabama? Okay.
- 39:30Speaker 1: The answer is yes. This is what I did not realize, however,
- 39:35Speaker 1: about Indiana. They are old.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Like, this is the Bill Snyder era. Kansas state.
- 39:43Speaker 3: I mean, those Snyder almost like, um, Gonzaga. Yes.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Like just old, old guys.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Like now the guys can stay in school forever.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Cause this is what, what is amazing about watching Indiana
- 39:55Speaker 1: and what they pulled off being Indiana is that it's
- 39:59Speaker 1: OB tries real name, no gimmicks. They are just lining
- 40:03Speaker 1: up and hitting you in hard, by the way, like,
- 40:06Speaker 1: and they got some orange, some bitches on that team.
- 40:09Speaker 1: That dude that broke Ty Simpson's ribs is 5'9, 170 pounds.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Yeah, they used to have a name for that.
- 40:19Speaker 1: He's that guy.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 40:20Speaker 1: But they are out here knocking the hell out of people.
- 40:24Speaker 1: That's the game they're playing. One of those running backs
- 40:28Speaker 1: in there, and I saw him going, I was like, oh,
- 40:30Speaker 1: you're not getting him with no arm tackles. They were
- 40:34Speaker 1: clearly better than Alabama. They made Alabama tap. By the
- 40:40Speaker 1: time the third quarter came around, Alabama tapped. They quit.
- 40:45Speaker 1: They gave up. They were standing across from something bigger
- 40:49Speaker 1: and better than them. It was bananas to observe and watch.
- 40:56Speaker 1: So I do think it says something about Alabama. I
- 41:01Speaker 1: think Indiana.
- 41:04Speaker 1: They figured out an approach. And by the way, I
- 41:05Speaker 1: don't know if you've seen it, but they're cleaning up
- 41:07Speaker 1: in the portal.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Yeah, they just got one of the big QBs from TCU.
- 41:10Speaker 1: They got a QB. They got a couple. They got
- 41:12Speaker 1: a big-time receiver. They got a bunch of other dudes that, again,
- 41:15Speaker 1: I've never heard of these people, but apparently they're all
- 41:17Speaker 1: very good according to the transfer portal tracker or whatever
- 41:21Speaker 1: it is that they've got. But, yeah, they've decided we're
- 41:25Speaker 1: going to get big old dudes because one thing that's
- 41:27Speaker 1: very important in college football is discipline. And older dudes,
- 41:31Speaker 1: just a little bit more mature.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Big difference between 23 and 19.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And I think that matters, right? In terms,
- 41:38Speaker 1: especially if you're going to try to play the type
- 41:39Speaker 1: of ball that Indiana is trying to play. I think
- 41:42Speaker 1: that matters. As it relates to Alabama, Caleb DeBoer is
- 41:47Speaker 1: going to really wish they had lost that game against Oklahoma.
- 41:51Speaker 1: And he could have just gone and taken that Michigan job.
- 41:55Speaker 3: They were getting blown out too. They were down 17-0
- 41:56Speaker 3: in that game.
- 41:57Speaker 5: Yes.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Did I send you the guy from the message board?
- 42:00Speaker 1: That said, this shows how important coaching is. And I
- 42:04Speaker 1: want to, what is the exact quote? I want to
- 42:08Speaker 1: make sure I get this right because it was just
- 42:10Speaker 1: that funny. My man said, damn, I can't find it.
- 42:15Speaker 1: But basically he said, we are being, he's an Alabama fan.
- 42:20Speaker 1: We are being abused by three-star whites.
- 42:23Speaker 4: Right.
- 42:25Speaker 3: Right. Right, right, right. Like, just like. Like, was desegregation
- 42:30Speaker 3: that important? Yes. That's the kind of thing that they
- 42:34Speaker 3: have Alabama fans saying now.
- 42:35Speaker 1: This is what has happened, though, I think, very clearly
- 42:39Speaker 1: to Alabama.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 42:41Speaker 1: This game shows how important coaching is now that college
- 42:43Speaker 1: football is so even at the top. Bunch of three-star
- 42:45Speaker 1: whites abusing us. White people have such low athletic self-esteem.
- 42:52Speaker 1: But what has happened, though, with the SEC, and I've
- 42:54Speaker 1: seen people mention this, that these SEC teams have been
- 42:56Speaker 1: getting mauled in the bowl game, and in the playoff.
- 43:01Speaker 1: And what the SEC used to have, where they had
- 43:04Speaker 1: comparative advantage over the rest of the country, was really
- 43:06Speaker 1: with defensive linemen. Big and fast.
- 43:10Speaker 3: Yeah, especially depth.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Depth. That's it. They could stack them. Just wave after
- 43:16Speaker 1: wave after wave of big, strong, fast defensive linemen. And
- 43:20Speaker 1: now those guys are going everywhere. And that, to me,
- 43:24Speaker 1: is the biggest change is they're at the line of scrimmage. Right.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Like this is not back in the day where like
- 43:29Speaker 1: the Big Ten teams can win because they can put
- 43:32Speaker 1: together good offensive lines. Like they've been able to do that.
- 43:35Speaker 1: But it's still the SEC where those big boys are
- 43:38Speaker 1: just a lot more athletic, just a lot more athletic.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And now everybody's got a few of those. And that
- 43:43Speaker 1: has completely altered the game.
- 43:45Speaker 3: I mean, look at Texas Tech. Like, that was their whole, like,
- 43:48Speaker 3: plan in the portal. We're going to get big, fast
- 43:50Speaker 3: defensive linemen.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Yeah, they did. But you know what, though? They ain't
- 43:52Speaker 1: have enough on the other side.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:54Speaker 1: And they got mauled. Like, that was, for them, that
- 43:57Speaker 1: was embarrassing.
- 44:00Speaker 3: All right. Let's move on to the NFL. Sam Darnold
- 44:03Speaker 3: won't be playing this weekend because the Seahawks got the
- 44:05Speaker 3: number one overall seed. He becomes the first quarterback to
- 44:09Speaker 3: have 14 win back-to-back seasons since Tom Brady. Bo, do
- 44:13Speaker 3: you believe in Sam Darnold?
- 44:15Speaker 4: Nope.
- 44:18Speaker 1: My brother sent me a test because he don't really
- 44:20Speaker 1: follow that close. And he was like, Sam Darnold is,
- 44:25Speaker 1: dare I say, cold. And I was like, hey, big dog.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I can't even let you get out in the streets
- 44:29Speaker 1: talking like this, man.
- 44:30Speaker 3: That's a full time out.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, man.
- 44:32Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:33Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I can't even. I can't even allow you. to put
- 44:36Speaker 1: yourself in this position saying these things. He is talented.
- 44:40Speaker 1: There's no question about the fact that he is talented.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Did you think he was great in that game on Saturday, though?
- 44:45Speaker 3: No.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Because I did not.
- 44:47Speaker 3: He's had a bad last month of the year.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Yeah. I came away from Saturday impressed that Kyle Shanahan
- 44:53Speaker 1: got that team as far as he did, especially they
- 44:56Speaker 1: had 11 starters on defense. I ain't never heard of
- 45:00Speaker 1: 10 of them. And the 11th is that big old
- 45:03Speaker 1: swole dude with the Arabic name that Patrick Mahomes put
- 45:06Speaker 1: his shoulder in his chest at the goal line that
- 45:08Speaker 1: one time. You remember that? That dude built like a
- 45:11Speaker 1: tank and got run through by Patrick Mahomes. I can't
- 45:13Speaker 1: believe that they have gotten this as far as they
- 45:16Speaker 1: have with the players that they have left on that team.
- 45:19Speaker 1: It has been shocking. However, Seattle, it's so funny. They're
- 45:25Speaker 1: playing offensively. Feels a lot like Pete Carroll football.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Maybe not like.
- 45:32Speaker 3: I mean, Jackson was the best wide receiver that they've had. Yes.
- 45:37Speaker 3: In a long time.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Well, since since Steve Largent.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:42Speaker 1: That's how far back we're going. But the way they
- 45:45Speaker 1: run the ball, like I don't know enough about schematics
- 45:47Speaker 1: and stuff with a run game to be like, oh,
- 45:49Speaker 1: are they running a Pete Carroll type of run game? No,
- 45:51Speaker 1: but they're playing like Pete Carroll would prefer to run
- 45:53Speaker 1: the ball, play, run, run, run. And then when we
- 45:56Speaker 1: need to, we'll make big play throws with our athletic,
- 45:58Speaker 1: strong arm quarterback, which is what Russell Wilson was just
- 46:01Speaker 1: of a different size paradigm. But no, man, I ain't
- 46:04Speaker 1: trusting no Sam Darnold, baby. Like, I'm okay with being second.
- 46:08Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I ain't got to be
- 46:09Speaker 1: the first one to get on board with this. Y'all
- 46:11Speaker 1: let me know if it happens. I will give you
- 46:13Speaker 1: guys all the credit in the world. I promise you
- 46:16Speaker 1: that I will. At the same time, I root for
- 46:19Speaker 1: a team with Jared Goff as the quarterback, which is
- 46:20Speaker 1: to say I understand if you choose to believe in
- 46:22Speaker 1: Sam Darnold because it beats the alternative. Belief is a choice.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Belief is a choice.
- 46:28Speaker 3: All right, Bo. Getting the voicemails here. A lot of
- 46:35Speaker 3: good ones off the break. Here's our first one.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Yo, Bomani Jones. This is Rod from Delaware. So check
- 46:42Speaker 2: this out. I've got a real quick one for you here, right?
- 46:45Speaker 2: So I'm always into what words enter and exit our
- 46:48Speaker 2: popular lexicon or what phrases and stuff, right? And there's
- 46:51Speaker 2: one that's been in our lexicon for a while and
- 46:54Speaker 2: nobody really has talked about.
- 46:56Speaker 3: It much, right?
- 46:57Speaker 2: That's been widespread and that's people saying, I have the itis, right?
- 47:01Speaker 2: Now this used to be just a You know, just
- 47:03Speaker 2: uses the black folks thing. I remember the original comic
- 47:06Speaker 2: stand up where it came from. And then, you know,
- 47:08Speaker 2: as it became as popular, gained its popularity, people just
- 47:12Speaker 2: use the suffix. Oh, it's the itis. But people don't
- 47:14Speaker 2: have the entire full term or original version, as we
- 47:19Speaker 2: can put it. Right. So I want to know, do
- 47:23Speaker 2: people outside of black people know the full original version? terminology,
- 47:28Speaker 2: or is it okay with using the suffix? Because I
- 47:31Speaker 2: feel if people knew the entirety of it, it wouldn't
- 47:35Speaker 2: be so widespread. What do you think?
- 47:39Speaker 1: That actually is not a question for me.
- 47:42Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 47:43Speaker 1: That is a question for Ryan.
- 47:45Speaker 3: I do not know.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Oh, you do not know the origins?
- 47:47Speaker 3: I do not know. And I have a good rule.
- 47:49Speaker 3: If I don't know the origins, I try not to
- 47:51Speaker 3: use it.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Wise play. Wise play.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Defense wins championships.
- 47:55Speaker 5: Yeah, so.
- 47:56Speaker 1: It's very similar to, I've talked about this on this
- 48:04Speaker 1: show before. Let us say that there's something that is
- 48:10Speaker 1: broken in some form or fashion and it needs to
- 48:13Speaker 1: be repaired very quickly or perhaps haphazardly with a certain ingenuity.
- 48:18Speaker 1: There is a phrase that one might use.
- 48:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 48:21Speaker 1: So similar to that, Except it's the itis.
- 48:26Speaker 4: Copy.
- 48:26Speaker 1: I don't know if you've ever seen the movie Bamboozled
- 48:29Speaker 1: with the character named Sleep and Eat. Yes.
- 48:32Speaker 3: It's been a long time, but yes.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. So we're in line with that. And
- 48:36Speaker 1: so to answer your question, brother, I assure you some
- 48:40Speaker 1: people know exactly what they're saying. Some. But also, this
- 48:45Speaker 1: is a dangerous thing of never forget that they can
- 48:50Speaker 1: hear you when you talk. And they are They kind
- 48:54Speaker 1: of like AI. They be learning. They be soaking up game. Now,
- 48:59Speaker 1: don't get me wrong. They use it in clumsy ways
- 49:01Speaker 1: that might make you want to throw them out the window,
- 49:03Speaker 1: but they can hear you.
- 49:07Speaker 3: All right, here's our next one.
- 49:08Speaker 5: Bomani, Ryan, this is Brady from Montana. Thanks for taking
- 49:11Speaker 5: my call. Though we entertain ourselves with the likes of
- 49:15Speaker 5: Conn Knipple, and though I appreciate the recent reference to
- 49:18Speaker 5: the infamous Peterman, I would like to lend my support
- 49:21Speaker 5: to your years-old pronunciation assistance for the quarterback who plays
- 49:24Speaker 5: on the practice squad for your Detroit Lions, the young
- 49:28Speaker 5: man who goes by the name of CJ. And for
- 49:30Speaker 5: those who contend that his last name is Bethard, I
- 49:33Speaker 5: must also assume that they think the collection of staff
- 49:35Speaker 5: and editors at a magazine is called a mass feed.
- 49:39Speaker 5: And when their kids are being annoying and won't leave
- 49:41Speaker 5: them alone, they refer to them as little shitheads. Bomani, I,
- 49:45Speaker 5: like you, am a beat-hard truther. Keep preaching the gospel.
- 49:49Speaker 5: And when the Providence Friars make the NCAA tournament and
- 49:52Speaker 5: their seven-footer from Latvia wearing number 17 hits a game-winning shot,
- 49:56Speaker 5: you know where I'll be.
- 49:59Speaker 1: I have to be honest with you, Ryan. I don't
- 50:01Speaker 1: think that this is my gimmick, but it may need
- 50:03Speaker 1: to become it.
- 50:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:05Speaker 1: CJ beat hard.
- 50:06Speaker 3: I had really, uh, it's a good, it's a good bit.
- 50:10Speaker 1: I had also need to go find out who this
- 50:12Speaker 1: guy is now.
- 50:12Speaker 3: And, uh, same.
- 50:14Speaker 1: And, uh, and what'd you call it?
- 50:15Speaker 3: Uh, I thought that was a reference you would understand,
- 50:17Speaker 3: but I, I, I.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Ain't gonna lie to you. Right. Maybe just baby. I
- 50:23Speaker 1: got so much clever in me that I can't even
- 50:25Speaker 1: keep it all straight. You know what I'm saying? But
- 50:27Speaker 1: I don't, every now and then, I saw somebody on
- 50:29Speaker 1: the internet the other day complaining about some blog post
- 50:31Speaker 1: I wrote like 15 years ago, and the post said
- 50:33Speaker 1: something like, remember when Bomani doubled down on this? And
- 50:37Speaker 1: I wanted to comment underneath. I don't remember when I
- 50:40Speaker 1: did that. Like, what are you talking about? Like, I
- 50:44Speaker 1: have no idea. I can't keep all this stuff straight.
- 50:46Speaker 1: All right, buddy number is 17. Oh, oh, have you
- 50:50Speaker 1: looked up number 17? I have not. um, his, everybody
- 50:57Speaker 1: needs to look up number 17 for Providence basketball. It'll
- 51:01Speaker 1: ruin it. If I try to say it and it'll
- 51:03Speaker 1: ruin it. If I spell it, you just need to
- 51:06Speaker 1: look at it. And I will say to Brady from Montana.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Good call, brother. Good call.
- 51:11Speaker 3: All right. Here's our last one.
- 51:13Speaker 5: Hey, Bo, this is Bert.
- 51:15Speaker 4: Uh, long time listener. First time caller, uh, and Raleigh,
- 51:20Speaker 4: by the way, Dayton, Ohio, uh.
- 51:23Speaker 7: My question is, if you had to build an all-star
- 51:28Speaker 7: ensemble similar to the player-haters ball, who are your four
- 51:35Speaker 7: haters you're picking to go with you and why? Who's
- 51:37Speaker 7: going to be your Buck Nasty? Who's going to be
- 51:39Speaker 7: your Silky Johnson? Pretty, or whatever Ashley Larry's name.
- 51:45Speaker 4: Was, and then the Asian dude. Who's going to be
- 51:48Speaker 4: your starting five as your player-haters ball? It can even
- 51:51Speaker 4: be time travel. Where would you go and do the
- 51:54Speaker 4: most hatin'? Thanks.
- 51:56Speaker 6: I mean, the truth is, brother, I don't even know
- 51:58Speaker 6: if I need four of them. I just feel like
- 52:02Speaker 6: I need one. He'll be tomorrow's guest, by the way.
- 52:08Speaker 6: Joel from Missouri City.
- 52:10Speaker 1: But the thing about Joel, and this is very important
- 52:12Speaker 1: to note, Joel does not do it for recreation. Like,
- 52:19Speaker 1: when Joel get to hatin', it's because Joel mean it.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't have to get ready if you stay ready.
- 52:25Speaker 1: That's right. And by the way, once Joel starts, like,
- 52:31Speaker 1: it ain't stopping, right?
- 52:33Speaker 3: Oh, I see Joel on Twitter.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Yeah, he's way high on the list. Rest in peace
- 52:38Speaker 1: to Billy Packer. Billy Packer was definitely very high on
- 52:44Speaker 1: the list of haters. Trying to think who else it
- 52:49Speaker 1: is we might throw out there. I mean, truth is,
- 52:51Speaker 1: Whether you think he was justified or not is its
- 52:53Speaker 1: only discussion, but I don't think anybody will never hate
- 52:55Speaker 1: harder than pot. Like, to this day, I imagine if
- 52:59Speaker 1: it was your job to produce pot on Hit Em Up, like,
- 53:04Speaker 1: all right, I need you to do that again. He
- 53:06Speaker 1: can't do that again. He can't do that again. He
- 53:09Speaker 1: just passed out. He just fell out of the corner
- 53:10Speaker 1: from hating so hard.
- 53:12Speaker 3: My historical hater was J. Edgar Hoover.
- 53:15Speaker 1: That's an all-time. That is an all-time off.
- 53:21Speaker 3: Racists, creeds.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Yes.
- 53:24Speaker 3: Genders.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Hey, look, if you do what you love, you'll never
- 53:28Speaker 1: work a day in your life.
- 53:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Hoover had that job for 50 years.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Yeah. You just got through reading the Hoover book, right?
- 53:35Speaker 3: Yes.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Did that book get into the lie it appeared that
- 53:39Speaker 1: he had been living?
- 53:40Speaker 3: Well, two of them. I mean, the main one, yes.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Okay. Well, I don't even know what the main one
- 53:44Speaker 1: is anymore.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Well, the main one is his living boyfriend.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Okay. Oh, I was thinking about the other one, which
- 53:51Speaker 1: is in that day and age, that's a black man.
- 53:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 54:00Speaker 3: I did not get into that one. Yeah.
- 54:01Speaker 1: As I was talking about the black part, I completely
- 54:04Speaker 1: forgot about the whole other thing.
- 54:06Speaker 3: Yes.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Like the gay wear women's underwear.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Type stuff. Yeah.
- 54:10Speaker 3: Like the live-in male assistant for 45 years.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:17Speaker 3: No, that's from the twenties to the seven.
- 54:21Speaker 1: It is amazing to think that people who were like
- 54:23Speaker 1: adults in the twenties were still around in the seventies.
- 54:26Speaker 3: Yes. And it's still at the same job.
- 54:32Speaker 1: You're right. That is that, that is that's George Washington.
- 54:36Speaker 3: Yes.
- 54:36Speaker 1: On our hater list.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Oh man. Ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for joining
- 54:42Speaker 1: us here on the right time. Happy New Year to
- 54:45Speaker 1: you all. Speaking of which, Ryan, I don't know if
- 54:50Speaker 1: you know about this thing I'm about to do right now.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Do you know about this thing I'm about to do
- 54:53Speaker 1: right now?
- 54:54Speaker 3: I do not.
- 54:55Speaker 1: I have a good friend named Ryan Cortez who hates
- 54:59Speaker 1: being told Happy New Year too long after the New Year.
- 55:04Speaker 3: Oh, that's the Larry David bit.
- 55:05Speaker 1: Yes, and so every year I call Ryan. Let's see
- 55:09Speaker 1: if he'll answer.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Don't even say that shit. Don't even say that shit.
- 55:21Speaker 3: I'm fucking dead.
- 55:26Speaker 5: What?
- 55:27Speaker 1: Say what you're about to say. Why you approach me
- 55:32Speaker 1: with such hostility with the first time that we have
- 55:35Speaker 1: talked this year? Even what? How you been, brother?
- 55:45Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 55:45Speaker 4: Say what you really want to say.
- 55:47Speaker 5: Not that. Go ahead.
- 55:48Speaker 1: Happy New Year, man. God damn it. You would have
- 55:53Speaker 1: been better off calling me and just saying, fuck you.
- 55:57Speaker 3: That is the point of saying Happy New Year after
- 56:00Speaker 3: January 1st. You know that.
- 56:02Speaker 1: That's not the point. That's not the point. The point
- 56:07Speaker 1: is to share my cheer with you. Hold on. At
- 56:14Speaker 1: least this year I did it all. Was it today
- 56:16Speaker 1: the 5th?
- 56:16Speaker 6: It's a little more respectful than doing.
- 56:19Speaker 1: It on the 12th, admittedly. It's the first business day
- 56:22Speaker 1: of the year. In my record book, after January 1st,
- 56:27Speaker 1: you're not allowed to say it.
- 56:28Speaker 3: You get one day.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I love you too, man. All right, love you too.
- 56:35Speaker 3: I know. When you said he hates it, I was like, okay, like,
- 56:42Speaker 3: I like, I understood. I was like, I thought you
- 56:45Speaker 3: just didn't like, like thought was annoyed by it, but
- 56:48Speaker 3: he sounded actually mad. I mean, I don't know.
- 56:51Speaker 1: That's, that's, that's, that's Ryan Cortez default setting. Ryan probably
- 56:58Speaker 1: handles everything behind the scenes. Thank you, sir. Remember, follow
- 57:01Speaker 1: the right time. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us, hit
- 57:04Speaker 1: the voicemail line. 3, 2, 3, 5, 9, 6, 7, 7, 6, 7. Um,
- 57:09Speaker 1: Give us five stars. You only give us four stars.
- 57:10Speaker 1: I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. We'll talk
- 57:12Speaker 1: to you guys in a couple of days. Take it easy.
