- 0:00Speaker 1: It's going to be very uncomfortable before it shifts. There
- 0:03Speaker 1: is no transformation or change or alchemy without pressure, compression,
- 0:08Speaker 1: sheet confrontation. That's all necessary. There's no skipping the line
- 0:13Speaker 1: or magic bullet.
- 0:28Speaker 2: What's going on? Everyone, Emily A body here.
- 0:31Speaker 3: You are listening to episode two hundred and fifty two

- 0:50Speaker 3: to better navigate yours and move with intention so that
- 0:54Speaker 3: you can stride towards your own big potential and of
- 0:57Speaker 3: course have some fun along the way. For episode two
- 1:01Speaker 3: hundred and fifty two, today, I am sitting down with
- 1:05Speaker 3: Jace Gossip. She is a founding teacher as well as
- 1:09Speaker 3: vice president of training and development at the class. I
- 1:14Speaker 3: know I talked to you all a bunch about the
- 1:17Speaker 3: class over the last couple of years, and so it
- 1:21Speaker 3: was my honor and privilege after taking Jac's class the
- 1:24Speaker 3: last time I was in Los Angeles to ask her
- 1:29Speaker 3: to be on the show and truly what.
- 1:31Speaker 2: A special special conversation this is.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Jace is a beam of light, and she talks about
- 1:38Speaker 3: how taking the class back in twenty thirteen changed the
- 1:42Speaker 3: entire trajectory of her life. She talks about how she
- 1:46Speaker 3: made the choice to join the team at the class,
- 1:49Speaker 3: what it was like for her teaching her first few sessions,
- 1:53Speaker 3: and when she knew that this was going to be
- 1:56Speaker 3: a true career choice for her. In today's episode, jac
- 2:00Speaker 3: talks a lot about her more recent decision to move
- 2:04Speaker 3: out to Los Angeles and the difficult circumstances that had
- 2:08Speaker 3: a part to play in that role, including her fertility struggles.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Jace is so open and honest about the challenges that
- 2:17Speaker 3: she has faced on her own journey. I'm so appreciative
- 2:20Speaker 3: of that, and I know that her openness is without
- 2:24Speaker 3: a doubt, really going to help others who have experienced
- 2:28Speaker 3: or are currently experiencing fertility hurdles of their own. This
- 2:33Speaker 3: episode is packed with themes of resilience and so many
- 2:37Speaker 3: helpful takeaways on exactly how to show up during life's
- 2:41Speaker 3: most challenging moments, life's biggest hurdles.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Jac, thank you seriously.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Make sure you're following along with Hurdle over on social
- 2:52Speaker 3: It's at Hurdle Podcast.
- 2:53Speaker 2: You know me.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I'm over at Emily a body, and I would love
- 2:58Speaker 3: to ask this community to do me a favor. My
- 3:03Speaker 3: birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and
- 3:06Speaker 3: for my birthday, I want to answer thirty five listener
- 3:11Speaker 3: questions for thirty five years. And in order to do that,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I need your listener questions. So click on over to
- 3:17Speaker 3: the show notes. In there there is an opportunity for
- 3:20Speaker 3: you to leave me a voice message. Do it and
- 3:23Speaker 3: help me celebrate my birthday and style by giving back
- 3:27Speaker 3: to this community again. The link to leave me a
- 3:29Speaker 3: voice message and ask me a question whatever you want
- 3:32Speaker 3: is in the show notes. And with that, let's get
- 3:36Speaker 3: to it. Let's get to hurdling.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Today.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I am sitting down with JC Gossett. She is the
- 3:53Speaker 3: vice president of training and development for the class.
- 3:57Speaker 2: How are you.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I'm so well, Emily, so happy to be here with you.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm like the Hurdle Podcast, Yes.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Such a fan of everything you do and who you
- 4:08Speaker 2: are and what you stand for. So I'm nervous to
- 4:11Speaker 2: talk to you. I hope I say good things.
- 4:13Speaker 3: I see what you're doing here. You're trying to flatter me,
- 4:15Speaker 3: so I go easy on you. Well, fun fact for
- 4:18Speaker 3: the hurdlers listening, and a lot of you have come
- 4:20Speaker 3: on board since this time. But Jac's husband, Adam was
- 4:25Speaker 3: episode six of Hurdle Podcasts and Jace's episode will be
- 4:29Speaker 3: episode two.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Hundred and fifty two. Wow.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's only numbered episodes, so those are Mondays.
- 4:36Speaker 3: And then there are also episodes that happen now these
- 4:39Speaker 3: days on Wednesdays and on Fridays, so there are I
- 4:42Speaker 3: think over six hundred episodes in the catalog right now.
- 4:45Speaker 2: But Adam was episode six. That's amazing.
- 4:48Speaker 1: So this is kind of a full circle fun moment
- 4:50Speaker 1: for me. Wow, he was at the very beginning. Wow,
- 4:52Speaker 1: you've done a lot. How many years is that? With
- 4:54Speaker 1: all of those we are five years in.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Congrats, thanks man, congrats Toe you and I mean so
- 5:01Speaker 3: much has obviously happened, not just for the show but
- 5:03Speaker 3: also in the evolution of your relationship. We're sitting here
- 5:06Speaker 3: in Los Angeles.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we moved.
- 5:08Speaker 1: We moved a year ago from New York out tore
- 5:11Speaker 1: out here to LA.
- 5:12Speaker 2: We live in Venice.
- 5:13Speaker 1: We opened our LA flagship studio in the fall and
- 5:18Speaker 1: that's been really exciting and was such a blessing to
- 5:25Speaker 1: start this next chapter, both of our relationship together in
- 5:28Speaker 1: Los Angeles, because Adam is from here and feels very
- 5:31Speaker 1: connected to LA, the LA community, the sobriety community that's here,
- 5:35Speaker 1: so and he loves to surf, and so I feel
- 5:38Speaker 1: for us it is coming kind of full circle too.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It's so perfect.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And for those that don't know, And if you are Hurtler,
- 5:47Speaker 3: you've heard me talk about the class before, and I'm
- 5:49Speaker 3: sure the way that I talk about the class is
- 5:51Speaker 3: very different then the way jac is about to describe
- 5:54Speaker 3: the class. Obviously we'll get into knowing you specifically, but
- 5:58Speaker 3: let's just give some contacts. Someone asks you about what
- 6:01Speaker 3: is the class or what do you talk about?
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yes, And I love everyone's each interpretation of it because
- 6:07Speaker 1: it is so personal. And some people will be like,
- 6:11Speaker 1: it's a spiritual car wash for your body. It is spiritual.
- 6:15Speaker 1: It's a spiritual boot camp. It's I can't explain it,
- 6:18Speaker 1: you just have to do it. It's where you scream
- 6:21Speaker 1: and cry like I've heard all of the different ways
- 6:24Speaker 1: to describe it and what sums it up for me?
- 6:26Speaker 1: And I'll talk about it from different angles is it
- 6:28Speaker 1: is such a personal experience and the method meets you
- 6:32Speaker 1: where you're at and where you're showing up. How I
- 6:36Speaker 1: like to talk about it from different angles is it
- 6:39Speaker 1: is an opportunity for you to come back to yourself physically, mentally, emotionally,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and spiritually. It is a dynamic, moving meditation. It is
- 6:49Speaker 1: physical fitness as well as it is energetic, emotional and
- 6:54Speaker 1: spiritual healing.
- 6:55Speaker 2: It's freedom, it's.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Fitness and self regulation tools in one. It's the practice
- 7:05Speaker 1: of life. How to boil all that down to the
- 7:09Speaker 1: people that are like, but what are you doing? Because
- 7:10Speaker 1: that's the question. We get a lot, but like, what
- 7:12Speaker 1: exactly are you doing? Right? So, what we're doing with
- 7:15Speaker 1: the body are things that probably people have seen before
- 7:17Speaker 1: or know from physical fitness. We're doing squads, jumping jacks,
- 7:21Speaker 1: We're doing sculpting exercises, cardiovascular flushes, not crazy choreography. We're
- 7:28Speaker 1: not using any props with the original signature class. But
- 7:31Speaker 1: the movements that we will do are the doorway into
- 7:36Speaker 1: exploring your internal world energetically, emotionally, and spiritually. So once
- 7:42Speaker 1: we get the body in motion via the physical fitness,
- 7:45Speaker 1: we get to witness our own thoughts, tune into the
- 7:48Speaker 1: sensations going on in our body, and then use it
- 7:51Speaker 1: as a processing tool to take all of the things
- 7:54Speaker 1: we all have going on in our life and give
- 7:56Speaker 1: it somewhere to go, so that not only are you
- 7:59Speaker 1: working your body physically in a way that's really great
- 8:03Speaker 1: for your health, you're leaving with this cathartic release of
- 8:07Speaker 1: processing strong emotions and having a better understanding of your thoughts,
- 8:12Speaker 1: the things that run run your life, and somewhere to
- 8:15Speaker 1: actually put it. Because when I got into movement, I
- 8:19Speaker 1: didn't know where to put my stuff. I knew that
- 8:22Speaker 1: I could, like go to the gym.
- 8:24Speaker 2: I was a.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Dancer, but I didn't know what to do with what
- 8:27Speaker 1: I was feeling and what I was thinking and where
- 8:29Speaker 1: to put it. So my coping mechanism was to repress
- 8:34Speaker 1: and hold. So when I found the class, I was like, Oh.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I can bring my stuff.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I have somewhere to take the feelings, take the experience,
- 8:45Speaker 1: take the things going through my mind, and not only
- 8:47Speaker 1: can I process them here, they're welcomed and they're invited
- 8:50Speaker 1: without judgment.
- 8:51Speaker 3: And how long have you been teaching at the class?
- 8:54Speaker 1: I taught my first class in twenty fourteen, and I
- 8:57Speaker 1: took my first class with Tarin in twenty five thirteen.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Okay, so this is a ten year journey. Do you
- 9:03Speaker 3: remember if you walked out of the class in twenty
- 9:07Speaker 3: thirteen and someone asked you how to describe it?
- 9:10Speaker 2: What would you have said?
- 9:11Speaker 3: I was.
- 9:13Speaker 1: My thought coming out of that class was this is
- 9:16Speaker 1: going to shift the way we approach working out. Was
- 9:20Speaker 1: what was my hit? I was like, this is this
- 9:23Speaker 1: is going to change everything. And it's a combination of
- 9:29Speaker 1: so many different healing modalities in one and I was
- 9:33Speaker 1: like tearing to me, He's a fucking genius.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Okay, So I'm going to tell you how I described
- 9:39Speaker 3: the class.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I literally just in a lunch meeting said that if
- 9:45Speaker 3: Carrie Bradshaw Insex and the City like went to go
- 9:48Speaker 3: do a workout, she would have one hundred percent gone
- 9:51Speaker 3: to take the class because it is just so purely
- 9:55Speaker 3: Tribeca mom, New York, Like, it is an arrangement of
- 10:00Speaker 3: just things that you do not get in any other room.
- 10:03Speaker 3: And then if I had to describe it from a
- 10:05Speaker 3: physical standpoint, because you said, but what do you actually do?
- 10:10Speaker 3: I would say it is a series of either sculpting
- 10:14Speaker 3: or pilates inspired movements, perhaps combined with cardio, and you
- 10:18Speaker 3: do each move for an entire song to fatigue the
- 10:22Speaker 3: muscle but also strengthen your will because by doing the
- 10:26Speaker 3: same movement for the duration of two to three minutes,
- 10:28Speaker 3: you get to a point where you inevitably want to
- 10:30Speaker 3: break down, and you learn throughout the duration of the
- 10:33Speaker 3: class how to push past a place where you didn't
- 10:36Speaker 3: feel like you were capable of pushing past. That's what
- 10:39Speaker 3: I would say, OK, I love the carry Bradshaw reference
- 10:42Speaker 3: because it is also fabulous.
- 10:44Speaker 2: The class is fabulous.
- 10:45Speaker 3: It's so fabulous. It's so fabulous. So it's just it's
- 10:48Speaker 3: so funny. Also because I can definitely relate with you
- 10:51Speaker 3: on the This brings out the emotions and releases my
- 10:57Speaker 3: energy in a way that I didn't necessarily feel safe
- 11:00Speaker 3: too or capable of in other ways, like when are
- 11:03Speaker 3: you in a space and even in your own apartment,
- 11:05Speaker 3: like I know for me living in New York City,
- 11:07Speaker 3: Like if you scream in your own apartment, it's still
- 11:09Speaker 3: like there are people near you. So there you get
- 11:13Speaker 3: to a place where you're like, where do you go
- 11:15Speaker 3: to a place that you feel like you have the
- 11:17Speaker 3: agency to let go in that way, and this is
- 11:20Speaker 3: a place where you have that agency, which is why
- 11:22Speaker 3: for me, from that emotional POV, I really leaned into
- 11:25Speaker 3: the class the most during the pandemic. Definitely Yeah from home, Yes,
- 11:30Speaker 3: which was very different, Yes, very different, very different. I
- 11:33Speaker 3: think a lot of us didn't.
- 11:34Speaker 1: And for us too as teachers, the class has always
- 11:38Speaker 1: been medicine that we take for ourselves as well, and
- 11:41Speaker 1: teaching also gives us that space where we're able to
- 11:45Speaker 1: nurture ourselves as well. But I know for all of us,
- 11:47Speaker 1: we were just so grateful that it existed and we
- 11:50Speaker 1: had a space to come and it did give me
- 11:54Speaker 1: a different perspective of what a safe space is and
- 11:58Speaker 1: a safer space is, and how to hold space in
- 12:01Speaker 1: that way so that people do feel comfortable to really
- 12:05Speaker 1: let it, let it go.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Bring me to JC in twenty thirteen, Yes, describe her
- 12:14Speaker 3: for me.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Ooh jac in twenty thirteen was coming off of a
- 12:19Speaker 1: project that she worked on for the Travel Channel called
- 12:22Speaker 1: Dance the World. At that point in my life, dance
- 12:27Speaker 1: was was my dance was always my first love, and
- 12:30Speaker 1: then eventually I got into competitive ballroom dance and that
- 12:33Speaker 1: became my big love, and I had previously worked in
- 12:38Speaker 1: commercials and hosting on TV, and when I was much younger,
- 12:42Speaker 1: was working in commercial modeling and things like that. And
- 12:46Speaker 1: I had this big passion through travel to bring a
- 12:52Speaker 1: show to the world that could use dance as universal
- 12:55Speaker 1: language to experience different cultures, but also from a place
- 13:00Speaker 1: of deeper connection. So I was just coming off of
- 13:04Speaker 1: filming that and putting that out into the world and
- 13:08Speaker 1: reconnected with Tarin, and the corporate executive that had signed
- 13:17Speaker 1: off on my deal was replaced by somebody else, and
- 13:21Speaker 1: that new person didn't like the idea anymore. So you know,
- 13:26Speaker 1: the industry is the industry, and I was in that
- 13:28Speaker 1: place of now, what is the next thing for me
- 13:34Speaker 1: to hook into? And I was like many people juggling
- 13:37Speaker 1: a bunch of different things, working here, working there, teaching
- 13:40Speaker 1: myself to make all the things work.
- 13:43Speaker 2: So I knew I.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Was searching and seeking and thirsty for something to hook into.
- 13:50Speaker 1: So I see myself in that seeker searching space in
- 13:55Speaker 1: twenty thirteen and filtering through all of my previous experiences
- 14:00Speaker 1: with movement and travel and healing, specifically because when I
- 14:05Speaker 1: was in the world of competition dance as much as
- 14:07Speaker 1: I loved it when I was a commercial.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Model and doing hosting.
- 14:12Speaker 1: The emphasis is on the performance, and I knew that
- 14:17Speaker 1: I wanted to come back into a place of healing,
- 14:21Speaker 1: and not just for myself but for whoever my students
- 14:24Speaker 1: were or whatever I was going to offer.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what you felt called to.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Yeah, So I was kind of like straddling the how
- 14:31Speaker 1: are we in this industry that's forward facing, that isn't
- 14:34Speaker 1: necessarily valued solely from the forward facing and be in
- 14:40Speaker 1: it from a place of healing.
- 14:42Speaker 2: But it didn't know what that was going to be.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Right. So then when you come back around and reconnect
- 14:48Speaker 3: with Taren, how does that conversation go.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I run into a mutual friend of ours on the
- 14:54Speaker 1: street in twenty thirteen in New York City. That's like, Hey,
- 14:57Speaker 1: Terreen's doing this thing. Have you heard about No, here's
- 15:01Speaker 1: the here's the here's the information on it. You should
- 15:04Speaker 1: reach out to her. I reach out to Taran. I
- 15:07Speaker 1: see what you're doing. It looks amazing. I would love
- 15:09Speaker 1: to come. She says, great, I'm sold out for the
- 15:12Speaker 1: next two weeks or something like that. And at that
- 15:14Speaker 1: point I'm like, what is she talking about? What do
- 15:16Speaker 1: you mean, she's sold out, you know. I never wasn't,
- 15:21Speaker 1: but just kind of thing wasn't on my radar. So
- 15:24Speaker 1: she had a late cancel. She told me to come.
- 15:26Speaker 1: She says, don't be late. You don't want to be
- 15:28Speaker 1: the miss. The beginning, I come into a very buzzy,
- 15:33Speaker 1: busy child dance studio in Tribeca with two two's everywhere
- 15:39Speaker 1: and Barbie dolls on the wall and like capes and
- 15:42Speaker 1: ribbons and little kids running around, and then this one
- 15:45Speaker 1: room of about thirty eight to forty women that were buzzing,
- 15:52Speaker 1: and it was definitely a vibe and the group of
- 15:56Speaker 1: women were powerful and strong, and I was intimid I
- 16:00Speaker 1: was like, what is this, What's about to happen? But
- 16:04Speaker 1: at that point Natalie was there. I took my first
- 16:07Speaker 1: class blown away in the first few seconds, like.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Just blown away, and all.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I knew was that there was something here for me,
- 16:15Speaker 1: and I wanted to just keep coming back. I just
- 16:17Speaker 1: didn't know what was. I was like, I want to
- 16:18Speaker 1: be a part of this and I want to keep coming.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I just don't know what that is. So very quickly
- 16:23Speaker 1: it turned to Natalie and I setting up Terence's classes,
- 16:26Speaker 1: kind of like being her assistant, wiping down the mats,
- 16:29Speaker 1: checking people in, helping carry the towels, rolling the mats
- 16:36Speaker 1: down the street, all all of that kind of stuff
- 16:38Speaker 1: for maybe a couple of weeks until Taran said, well,
- 16:42Speaker 1: would you ever think about teaching this? At that point,
- 16:46Speaker 1: so many things were happening for her, she needed support.
- 16:49Speaker 1: She's was like, I have to go do this thing.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Could you sub the class? And that was terrifying. I
- 16:54Speaker 1: said no, it's like you're out.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Of your mind. There's no way I can do this.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I don't even know how you are doing this. And
- 16:58Speaker 2: it's also called the class with tearing. To me, I
- 17:00Speaker 2: don't think that's gonna fly.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And yeah, a couple months not even Yeah, a couple
- 17:06Speaker 1: months later, I taught my first class.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And because there was no at this point formal training program,
- 17:13Speaker 3: what did you getting onboarded to be able to stand
- 17:17Speaker 3: in front of the class look.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Like it looked like having Terran download.
- 17:24Speaker 1: What was going on in her head and what it
- 17:27Speaker 1: was at the moment that at that point where I
- 17:30Speaker 1: was entering, like she was like Yoda and I was
- 17:33Speaker 1: coming in fresh off the boat of like I have
- 17:36Speaker 1: no idea what you're talking about.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Her approach to it.
- 17:40Speaker 1: At that point had was so advanced that I just
- 17:43Speaker 1: was struggling to learn the language. And Natalie and I
- 17:48Speaker 1: would take her class and really try to focus in
- 17:51Speaker 1: class what she was doing, and then afterwards sit with
- 17:53Speaker 1: these sticky notes and say, Okay, she did this, and
- 17:55Speaker 1: then she did that, and then this went into this
- 17:58Speaker 1: and try to reverse engineer it as well as getting
- 18:01Speaker 1: her downloads. But like with anything, you can get the
- 18:06Speaker 1: guidebook and the map, and you can get all the downloads,
- 18:10Speaker 1: but then it really comes from you doing it. You
- 18:15Speaker 1: can study all you want and witness it and watch
- 18:18Speaker 1: it and take notes, but the muscle that needed to
- 18:21Speaker 1: be worked for us, and I think this applies to
- 18:23Speaker 1: a lot of different aspects of life specifically also for
- 18:26Speaker 1: the teachers of the class, is you get it by
- 18:29Speaker 1: doing it, and the more you do it, the more
- 18:30Speaker 1: you get it.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah, And so I'm sure the more that you do it,
- 18:34Speaker 3: the more impactful it is on you as well. As
- 18:37Speaker 3: you said at the top of this, the class really
- 18:39Speaker 3: being an opportunity for you to work through your shit
- 18:43Speaker 3: as you're helping other people work through theirs.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yeah, And when we started doing a more formal teacher
- 18:51Speaker 1: training and I stepped into my role of training. How
- 18:53Speaker 1: I describe it to the trade needs is whatever's going
- 18:56Speaker 1: on for you on the map as a student, when
- 18:58Speaker 1: you step on to the co facilitator MAD or the
- 19:02Speaker 1: teacher met, it supersizes it by one hundred percent. So
- 19:07Speaker 1: now's the time to start going through your own stuff
- 19:10Speaker 1: and get a good handle on your own practice, because
- 19:14Speaker 1: when you're standing there, it just magnifies it by a million.
- 19:19Speaker 3: For someone who is listening to this and is still
- 19:22Speaker 3: trying to grasp and understanding of kind of maybe some
- 19:25Speaker 3: of the language or the practices or perhaps the things
- 19:29Speaker 3: that you're saying in class, can you maybe try to
- 19:32Speaker 3: paint a little bit tougher picture for that totally.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So the somatic aspect of the class is helping people
- 19:40Speaker 1: tune in to their body and practice embodiment. So a
- 19:44Speaker 1: lot of the cues that we're going to be giving
- 19:46Speaker 1: in class are to help the student guide themselves via
- 19:52Speaker 1: our cues into their own experience that is beyond just
- 19:56Speaker 1: the mind. So we'll talk a lot about sensations, we'll
- 19:59Speaker 1: talk talk a lot about yes, activation of the muscles,
- 20:04Speaker 1: But the guidance is not imposing the practice on anyone
- 20:10Speaker 1: or telling anybody what it should be, but a map
- 20:13Speaker 1: for the students to be led into their body so
- 20:16Speaker 1: that they can use the content.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Of their life in the class.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Specifically, what is happening for them, what's going on in
- 20:24Speaker 1: your life, what's going on in your relationships, your career,
- 20:27Speaker 1: your own mind, your own health, Where is that stored?
- 20:32Speaker 1: And then how can we use the movements and the
- 20:35Speaker 1: tools of vocal release and breath with the music as
- 20:39Speaker 1: well to open those pockets of whatever is repressed, unexpressed
- 20:45Speaker 1: hidden in the blind spot that could.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Be aired out.
- 20:51Speaker 3: I'll never forget when I had Natalie on the show,
- 20:53Speaker 3: and I'll link to that episode in the show notes.
- 20:55Speaker 3: But she said something that I go back to all
- 20:58Speaker 3: of the time, and she said, how does a muscle
- 21:01Speaker 3: strengthen you give it something to push up against? And
- 21:03Speaker 3: then she said, how does your will strengthen? You give
- 21:06Speaker 3: it something to push up against? And I think that's
- 21:08Speaker 3: really a holistic example perhaps of some of the language
- 21:12Speaker 3: that's used in this room.
- 21:13Speaker 2: It's really empowering.
- 21:16Speaker 3: And also I would argue triggering inquisition into what's actually
- 21:23Speaker 3: happening within you so that you can come to terms
- 21:26Speaker 3: kind of like we were saying before like you show
- 21:28Speaker 3: up in the front of the class and the facilitator
- 21:30Speaker 3: spot and this gets magnified, so to trigger you to
- 21:33Speaker 3: have a full understanding of what's happening within you and
- 21:36Speaker 3: then allowing you to process that away totally.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'll say it sometimes in class that this is the
- 21:42Speaker 1: simulation experience. So it's like NASA is not just going
- 21:47Speaker 1: to put you in a spaceship or a space rocket
- 21:51Speaker 1: and that's your first experience of going into space. You're
- 21:54Speaker 1: going through the simulator. You're going in the underwater thing.
- 21:56Speaker 1: They're turning you around in the G force. So we
- 21:59Speaker 1: get to do that in class. We get to shake
- 22:01Speaker 1: it up and stir it up and simulate it in
- 22:04Speaker 1: a safe and healthy way, so you know what is
- 22:06Speaker 1: going on for you, because that is the stuff, like
- 22:09Speaker 1: you're saying, in this intentional triggering, that is going to
- 22:14Speaker 1: come up in any big life event or that just
- 22:17Speaker 1: the daily of what life brings for each of us
- 22:21Speaker 1: as individuals.
- 22:22Speaker 2: That is the stuff that's going to get kicked up.
- 22:24Speaker 1: So if we're just waiting for the moment where something
- 22:28Speaker 1: happens on the news, a pandemic happens, we change relationships,
- 22:31Speaker 1: we move, we make a big life change. We experience loss,
- 22:36Speaker 1: there's no time to practice it. You're practicing it in
- 22:38Speaker 1: the real live. So for us, it's like, why wait
- 22:43Speaker 1: until you're in that moment that potentially could be crisis,
- 22:46Speaker 1: which is where the resilience comes in.
- 22:48Speaker 2: The resilience is not.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Let me just put a bubble wrap around myself and
- 22:52Speaker 1: no bad shit is going to ever.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Happen to me.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Ever again, I'm going to block out the bad vibes.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I'm going to never date toxic people. I'm gonna only
- 22:59Speaker 1: surround myself with positive. This it's not attainable, nor is
- 23:04Speaker 1: it real. So can we work with the challenge? Can
- 23:09Speaker 1: we experience all of the stuff that we have accumulated
- 23:14Speaker 1: in this lifetime? And if you believe in multiple lifetimes,
- 23:16Speaker 1: multiple lifetimes, so that when it actually is happening and
- 23:19Speaker 1: you're sitting on the receiving end of some really difficult
- 23:22Speaker 1: news or you have to make a really difficult life decision,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you have more awareness about what you're bringing to it.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Oh yes, exactly. So, speaking of awareness of what you're
- 23:34Speaker 3: bringing to it, what did you enter your time teaching
- 23:39Speaker 3: at the class with oh.
- 23:42Speaker 2: So much, so much.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I my early environment came from a big family. There
- 23:52Speaker 1: was five boys in me and my family, and there
- 23:55Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of education maybe around communication or expression
- 24:00Speaker 1: in things like this, and I found movement as a
- 24:03Speaker 1: healing salve for me to work out what I was
- 24:06Speaker 1: feeling because I didn't know how to articulate it. Articulating
- 24:09Speaker 1: it was always more of a challenge for me. And
- 24:10Speaker 1: then I love dance because I just used my body.
- 24:13Speaker 1: So when I came to the class, I had to
- 24:15Speaker 1: put it together. I was like, Oh, I can't. This
- 24:17Speaker 1: is a This is not a I do it in
- 24:19Speaker 1: you mirror. This is not just I'm doing the moves
- 24:21Speaker 1: and you're following along. I have to learn how to
- 24:24Speaker 1: articulate my experience the experience and help guide you through
- 24:30Speaker 1: my articulation and my energy into your experience.
- 24:34Speaker 2: So it was like.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Learning connecting these dots of how do I describe what
- 24:40Speaker 1: any of this is? How do I talk about it
- 24:42Speaker 1: in myself? And that imposter syndrome that flares for me
- 24:50Speaker 1: every now and again. And at that time, when I
- 24:51Speaker 1: think about twenty thirteen twenty fourteen, was I pieced a
- 24:55Speaker 1: lot of my stuff together like many other people do, right,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I didn't follow a traditional p I didn't graduate from
- 25:01Speaker 1: a specific school that led me to this. I didn't
- 25:03Speaker 1: go to college. I didn't get you know, the I
- 25:07Speaker 1: didn't go to some healing institute. Of all of the
- 25:10Speaker 1: things I learned from life experience, had really amazing teachers,
- 25:14Speaker 1: and yes, did a lot of studying and went through
- 25:16Speaker 1: different certifications. But standing up on that, Matt was the
- 25:19Speaker 1: imposter syndrome of do I have anything to offer? What
- 25:23Speaker 1: do I have to offer? I mean, why me?
- 25:28Speaker 3: What do you tell someone who tells you that they
- 25:31Speaker 3: are also often met with imposter syndrome?
- 25:37Speaker 1: Breathe, breathe, take a beat, and then let's evaluate what's
- 25:44Speaker 1: really happening. As I went through life, I've had the
- 25:47Speaker 1: opportunity to work with people that have had all the
- 25:50Speaker 1: degrees that went to all the traditional things, that were
- 25:53Speaker 1: top level titles and great experiences, and then also the opposite,
- 25:58Speaker 1: the people that just made it happen, that just didn't
- 26:03Speaker 1: go and get the certifications and all the things, and
- 26:06Speaker 1: it looked different. So I would say, it can look different.
- 26:10Speaker 1: It doesn't have to look one way. That just what
- 26:13Speaker 1: was what I was.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Told it had to look one way.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Didn't have other examples and what do we know to
- 26:19Speaker 1: be true right now? Because what I've seen and throughout
- 26:23Speaker 1: my experience is.
- 26:24Speaker 2: In a way, we are kind of all making it up.
- 26:27Speaker 2: And I don't mean making it.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Up from a bad way, But aren't we all just
- 26:30Speaker 1: kind of figuring it out? Aren't we all coming to
- 26:33Speaker 1: it from different angles? And what's to say that someone
- 26:37Speaker 1: else has it all figured out.
- 26:38Speaker 2: And you don't. Yeah?
- 26:40Speaker 3: And so when you start to put your claws into
- 26:43Speaker 3: the class, yeh, and you start teaching, and you start
- 26:48Speaker 3: understanding how to communicate a little bit more, let's say, effectively.
- 26:55Speaker 3: How does that feel for you?
- 26:57Speaker 2: So freeing, so liberating?
- 27:01Speaker 1: A piece of the puzzle that got to click click in.
- 27:06Speaker 1: There's something very cathartic with speaking your truth, and that
- 27:12Speaker 1: comes through as a student in the class when we're
- 27:14Speaker 1: vocalizing and using breath and sound. I'm also a big
- 27:18Speaker 1: believer of talk therapy. That works for me. And it's
- 27:21Speaker 1: also not just enough to talk about it, but to
- 27:23Speaker 1: talk and move at the same time and use breath
- 27:26Speaker 1: and sound and the energy and the music. All of
- 27:28Speaker 1: those pieces come together in such a beautiful way, and
- 27:31Speaker 1: it's just so powerful.
- 27:33Speaker 3: How did it manifest in the rest of your life,
- 27:37Speaker 3: the adding of this into your life.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I had some real heart to heart with myself of like, Okay, Jacy,
- 27:46Speaker 1: so now you're learning to do it over here, and
- 27:49Speaker 1: now you got to you gotta practice what you're what
- 27:52Speaker 1: you're doing. You gotta take it all into the areas
- 27:54Speaker 1: of your life, advocating for yourself, speaking up in those
- 27:58Speaker 1: relationships that historically had been felt suppressing for me, or
- 28:05Speaker 1: that I would shy away from speaking up or avoiding confrontation,
- 28:11Speaker 1: deferring to the louder voices or the bigger personalities, letting
- 28:17Speaker 1: myself kind of be steamrolled because I was recovering from
- 28:22Speaker 1: people pleasing and that person that wants it to be
- 28:27Speaker 1: copasetic and everyone to get along and not have it be.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Uncomfortable.
- 28:36Speaker 1: So it challenged me to say, Okay, now you're doing
- 28:39Speaker 1: this here, what about here, here, here, and here that challenge?
- 28:45Speaker 1: How did the challenge make you feel?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Ooh, scared?
- 28:49Speaker 1: Scared and intimidated and excited to know that there was
- 28:56Speaker 1: real opportunity from many different angles, not just in what
- 29:01Speaker 1: I wanted to do as a as a facilitator and
- 29:03Speaker 1: a leader at the class or a teacher at the
- 29:05Speaker 1: class who I was standing for as someone that was
- 29:09Speaker 1: training other people in this method, and who I was
- 29:11Speaker 1: standing for as someone who didn't want to stand.
- 29:15Speaker 2: For that for other people.
- 29:17Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, it's understandable that you felt all of
- 29:23Speaker 3: these emotions right, Scared, also a little bit excited, and
- 29:26Speaker 3: when you speak specifically about it, empowering you to take
- 29:31Speaker 3: stock of your relationships and understand maybe the patterns that
- 29:34Speaker 3: weren't serving you.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I've been there.
- 29:38Speaker 3: There have been many times where I've had to have
- 29:41Speaker 3: that talk with myself, asking myself, is this person is
- 29:47Speaker 3: this relationship really serving you? Is it making you as
- 29:49Speaker 3: happy as it once did? Or are you holding on
- 29:52Speaker 3: to that former level of happiness that is no longer?
- 29:55Speaker 2: And to be.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Able to step out from that situation can be so
- 30:04Speaker 3: so so difficult because even though at times that situation
- 30:09Speaker 3: may be let's say it disrespectful or toxic, toxic, it
- 30:16Speaker 3: still has this like resonating amount of comfort totally for
- 30:20Speaker 3: someone that's stuck in that, now, how do they get out?
- 30:26Speaker 1: There's something that Natalie says often, and I don't know
- 30:28Speaker 1: necessarily if she credits where she got this, but what
- 30:33Speaker 1: is familiar is not necessarily what is good for you?
- 30:36Speaker 2: And when we.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Start tracking our early environments and what we were exposed to.
- 30:41Speaker 1: There's an unconscious attraction to what is familiar, and that's
- 30:45Speaker 1: very different from what is good for you.
- 30:50Speaker 2: How you move through it.
- 30:53Speaker 1: With that courage to know it's going to be very
- 30:58Speaker 1: uncomfortable before it shifts. There is no transformation or change
- 31:02Speaker 1: or alchemy without pressure, compression, heat, confrontation. That's all necessary.
- 31:09Speaker 1: There's no skipping the line or magic bullet. So one
- 31:12Speaker 1: breath at a time, one moment at a time, and
- 31:17Speaker 1: like you mentioned, it's hard with that residue of maybe
- 31:21Speaker 1: it's serving still some kind of purpose, which is which
- 31:23Speaker 1: is like an old pattern or an old coping mechanism,
- 31:28Speaker 1: having some kind of support system, and whether that is
- 31:31Speaker 1: literally like a therapist or a sacred council. That is
- 31:35Speaker 1: the representation of the healthy is a barometer that is
- 31:39Speaker 1: important because you need to see it. You need to
- 31:42Speaker 1: feel health in some other capacity, whether that's a relationship
- 31:46Speaker 1: or in any other area, to be able now to
- 31:49Speaker 1: recognize it, so that you can determine the difference of like, oh,
- 31:53Speaker 1: right over here, we're going over here. That's over there,
- 31:55Speaker 1: we're going over here.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Taking a break from today's episode to give some love
- 32:04Speaker 3: to my sponsors. First up my friends at Open. For

- 34:48Speaker 3: freebies and get in on the ag one gang today.
- 35:00Speaker 3: When do you gain an understanding that this is going
- 35:04Speaker 3: to be more for you in terms of a career
- 35:08Speaker 3: than simply teaching at a studio.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I started to see it.
- 35:15Speaker 1: When I first started teaching. I mean, I'll just name it.
- 35:18Speaker 1: It was not good, Like my glasses were not good.
- 35:22Speaker 2: We had everything from people coming.
- 35:27Speaker 1: In and seeing it was I mean, I love Tarin
- 35:31Speaker 1: and so I feel like I can say it like
- 35:32Speaker 1: seeing it wasn't her and just being like piece out, Bye,
- 35:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna pick up my mat and leave, or like
- 35:38Speaker 1: into the second song, bye, I'm going to the bathroom.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I've never gone back. And of course there was a
- 35:43Speaker 2: learning curve with anything, but it.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Was so drastic what was happening that I was committed to,
- 35:53Speaker 1: all Right, how do I make this better?
- 35:56Speaker 2: How do I make it better?
- 36:00Speaker 1: And in the space of you know, maybe it's anything
- 36:07Speaker 1: that you do in any vocation or career, but specifically
- 36:11Speaker 1: in energy and healing work, you are setting the tone.
- 36:15Speaker 1: So it's your tone that is co creating the experience.
- 36:19Speaker 1: So if you're not looking at your own tone or
- 36:23Speaker 1: energy or life experience, which is ultimately creating the container
- 36:28Speaker 1: or co creation, you're not really doing the job, you
- 36:33Speaker 1: know what I mean. It's a little bit of like
- 36:36Speaker 1: check in and check out. So that's just what I
- 36:40Speaker 1: wanted for myself. I started to see that this was
- 36:44Speaker 1: not going to work by showing up and just clicking
- 36:49Speaker 1: in and being like I'm here to do my thing
- 36:51Speaker 1: and then clicking out. There was too much happening in
- 36:54Speaker 1: that separation that wasn't fully integrating into how I would
- 36:59Speaker 1: then show up the next time.
- 37:02Speaker 3: That's interesting because I think that speaks to your passion
- 37:07Speaker 3: and your deep commitment to the work, knowing that the
- 37:11Speaker 3: work is actually very tied to what you want to
- 37:16Speaker 3: do with your life and who you want to be.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Because there are certainly people that are listening to this
- 37:21Speaker 3: right now that will never feel that way about their work.
- 37:25Speaker 3: So the fact that your instinct was I'm going to
- 37:28Speaker 3: figure out how to make this better.
- 37:30Speaker 2: I want to keep this turned on.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I don't want to check out that says something about
- 37:36Speaker 3: you and what you arrived to this entire experience with
- 37:40Speaker 3: in the first place. I don't think one is necessarily
- 37:44Speaker 3: always better than the other or vice versa. Right, definitely,
- 37:47Speaker 3: because everyone has different priorities.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Totally, totally and wherever you are in your life and
- 37:51Speaker 1: what you're focusing on. And there were plenty other jobs
- 37:54Speaker 1: that I had where I didn't feel that level of passion.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I was like, I'm not really that invested to go
- 38:00Speaker 1: the extra mile or try to put in off the
- 38:03Speaker 1: clock time with my own research and my own things
- 38:05Speaker 1: and my own studying and my own self work. But
- 38:10Speaker 1: I started to see that, you know, the group or
- 38:13Speaker 1: the students or the experience of the class is only
- 38:17Speaker 1: going to go as far as where I am. So
- 38:22Speaker 1: if I want to give a wider range of experiences,
- 38:27Speaker 1: I have to stretch that in myself.
- 38:31Speaker 3: How do you show up when you don't feel like
- 38:33Speaker 3: showing up?
- 38:35Speaker 2: I do it. I drink that cup of coffee.
- 38:37Speaker 1: I'm a capricorn, I'm the goat climbing the mountain like
- 38:40Speaker 1: I just fucking do it.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I get up. I know this is not about me, right,
- 38:46Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm here in service. I'm here. I mean
- 38:50Speaker 2: this is person what I believe.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I'm here in service of some kind of greater good
- 38:55Speaker 1: and that is so much bigger than me that my
- 38:59Speaker 1: moments of fatigue or I didn't get enough sleep is
- 39:03Speaker 1: a is a grain of sand to potentially how some
- 39:07Speaker 1: of the students are showing up in what they need
- 39:10Speaker 1: and that bigger picture and approach of what we're doing
- 39:14Speaker 1: is the thing that motivates me to show up.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that still doesn't mean that showing up is easy. No,
- 39:25Speaker 3: And over the last few years, pandemic a big move
- 39:32Speaker 3: things going on in your personal life. I am sure
- 39:35Speaker 3: that there have been times where maybe it did feel
- 39:39Speaker 3: harder than others. Totally talk to me about the how then.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Observing where I am so part of my process before
- 39:47Speaker 1: I teach is I don't want to ever bring any
- 39:49Speaker 1: of my own shit or residue or stuff to project
- 39:53Speaker 1: into the room. So part of that is and am
- 39:56Speaker 1: I saying that I get that perfect every single time?
- 39:58Speaker 2: No, I'm definitely not saying get.
- 39:59Speaker 1: A perfect every time, But there is a moment of
- 40:03Speaker 1: what do I need to do right now to not
- 40:05Speaker 1: have this come into the room.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Is it crying in my car? Because I do that
- 40:08Speaker 2: a lot.
- 40:09Speaker 1: I put the music up really loud, I scream, I
- 40:11Speaker 1: yell all sorts of stuff in my car.
- 40:13Speaker 2: My car is like my little bubble. Even in New York.
- 40:15Speaker 2: We were blessed to have a car in Brooklyn.
- 40:18Speaker 1: But I would go in the car and just scream
- 40:20Speaker 1: and cry and do whatever I had to do to
- 40:24Speaker 1: make space for me to go and create that space
- 40:27Speaker 1: for others. Yeah, a lot of self talk, a lot
- 40:32Speaker 1: of like a pep talk for myself, playing different kinds
- 40:36Speaker 1: of music to shift my energy and mood, sometimes removing
- 40:41Speaker 1: myself from a situation that was weighing on me, Like
- 40:44Speaker 1: I just need to change my environment. Let me go outside,
- 40:46Speaker 1: take a walk, let me very specific people that I
- 40:51Speaker 1: know I cannot talk to on the phone before I
- 40:54Speaker 1: teach my class, Like nope, not taking that call right
- 40:57Speaker 1: now to do that later, but knowing what are the
- 41:02Speaker 1: tools that I can do right now to shift my energy.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Sometimes it's taking a shower, Sometimes it's taking a bath.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Sometimes it's like changing my clothes.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of awareness here, and that awareness
- 41:12Speaker 3: doesn't just show up overnight and so knowing that these
- 41:18Speaker 3: are things that are within your control, you can control
- 41:21Speaker 3: the controllables. That doesn't mean that it makes any of
- 41:24Speaker 3: the uncontrollable any less, maybe anxiety inducing or whatnot, but
- 41:30Speaker 3: it means that you have a firm grasp on what
- 41:32Speaker 3: you can do with any situation. And that's hard to
- 41:35Speaker 3: come to terms with, especially when things do feel bigger
- 41:38Speaker 3: than you. What would you say, over the last let's
- 41:42Speaker 3: give it three years, has felt bigger than you? I
- 41:46Speaker 3: mean one for sure, the pandemic, right, there's no controlling
- 41:50Speaker 3: that or how that was going to affect all of
- 41:54Speaker 3: our lives.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Personally.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I've been on a fertility journey for a very long
- 42:00Speaker 1: reframe very long, maybe since maybe like around four or
- 42:05Speaker 1: five years, and I don't have any control over that. Definitely,
- 42:11Speaker 1: health stuff throughout my fertility journey. In the very beginning,
- 42:15Speaker 1: via all the testing and preparation, they found a calcification
- 42:18Speaker 1: in my breast that was pre cancerous surgery. All those
- 42:21Speaker 1: things definitely bigger than me. Being newly married, figuring out
- 42:27Speaker 1: how to coexist, yeah, both working from home, newly married,
- 42:33Speaker 1: all the things definitely bigger, bigger than me.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I love about you?
- 42:40Speaker 2: JC is.
- 42:40Speaker 3: You have such a kind of compassionate soul and a
- 42:45Speaker 3: softness to you, but you're also firm, and you have
- 42:48Speaker 3: so much power, and I think often we hear that
- 42:51Speaker 3: you can be both kind and firm, but it is
- 42:54Speaker 3: a hard line to walk, and you also radiate so
- 43:00Speaker 3: much joy, and so to hear you going through those things,
- 43:07Speaker 3: thank you for sharing that with me and with us.
- 43:09Speaker 3: But also I'm sure that it really resonates with someone
- 43:14Speaker 3: listening to this that may also be going through the
- 43:18Speaker 3: things that feel bigger than them. I know that it
- 43:22Speaker 3: can be so challenging to feel like you don't have
- 43:24Speaker 3: agency over your own body, which you have already stated
- 43:26Speaker 3: is something that is so important for you to move
- 43:29Speaker 3: with and to work with and to be in kind
- 43:31Speaker 3: of cohoots with.
- 43:32Speaker 1: So how do you come back to calm a lot
- 43:35Speaker 1: of compassion? You know, I'll start a lot of it
- 43:38Speaker 1: by breathing, like, take a breath, and then the compassion
- 43:43Speaker 1: for our bodies in a way that is not hating
- 43:49Speaker 1: on them. Because of this, you could look at it
- 43:51Speaker 1: as a roadblock, right, You could be like, why is
- 43:53Speaker 1: this happening to me? How did this happen? I did
- 43:55Speaker 1: all the things I'm healthy and this and that my
- 43:57Speaker 1: body's failing me. There's maybe an out projection of what
- 44:02Speaker 1: did you do wrong? How come you can't do this?
- 44:04Speaker 1: How come you you know, how'd you let this happen?
- 44:06Speaker 1: And tuning out all of that noise, because what you're
- 44:10Speaker 1: our bodies are not going to heal from more judgment,
- 44:13Speaker 1: shame and anger. They're going to heal from love, just
- 44:16Speaker 1: like an animal or a plant or a child does.
- 44:19Speaker 2: It needs to be watered.
- 44:20Speaker 1: It doesn't need punishment, you know, I'm not talking about
- 44:22Speaker 1: being firm.
- 44:23Speaker 2: But punishment.
- 44:25Speaker 1: So a big part of what we do is is
- 44:29Speaker 1: coming into harmonization. So in all of those situations, it's like, yes,
- 44:34Speaker 1: acknowledge that it sucks, acknowledge that this is not what
- 44:37Speaker 1: you thought was going to happen, have a space to
- 44:39Speaker 1: have all of those feelings. Because for me going through that,
- 44:42Speaker 1: the like, hey, just stay positive.
- 44:44Speaker 2: That shit was not cutting it for me. That was
- 44:47Speaker 2: not working for me.
- 44:48Speaker 1: And and that could be partly my disposition that I'm
- 44:52Speaker 1: I feel things very deeply, and but if if we
- 44:57Speaker 1: just ignore what's we're real feeling, that's going to create
- 45:02Speaker 1: less harmony and what we're working towards is that harmonization
- 45:07Speaker 1: in all those parts of ourselves so that the body
- 45:09Speaker 1: could actually do what it does to heal some and
- 45:15Speaker 1: some capacity. So it's like if we're at war the
- 45:17Speaker 1: whole time, and that could be applied from like the
- 45:19Speaker 1: number on the scale, the size.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Of your close.
- 45:21Speaker 1: It clothes whatever diagnosis you've been given, which does not
- 45:25Speaker 1: have to be your life sentence. This is not how
- 45:27Speaker 1: you're going to like live the rest of your lives
- 45:29Speaker 1: carrying around this like infertility stamp. Coming back to calm
- 45:35Speaker 1: or presence is not has to come from love and compassion.
- 45:40Speaker 3: How do you not lose the faith?
- 45:42Speaker 1: I mean, I will be honest that of course you
- 45:44Speaker 1: lose it.
- 45:45Speaker 2: It's you lose it. You wake up and you're like
- 45:47Speaker 2: what the fuck? Yeah, now what?
- 45:52Speaker 1: I'm still working with this thing. Today's a hard day.
- 45:56Speaker 1: So I don't think it's about like how do you
- 45:58Speaker 1: not lose it? Maybe it's just knowing you will feel
- 46:03Speaker 1: days where it doesn't feel there, but that doesn't mean
- 46:06Speaker 1: that it's gone.
- 46:07Speaker 2: It's like, then what do you do? Who that was powerful?
- 46:13Speaker 3: There are days that you might not feel it, but
- 46:15Speaker 3: that doesn't mean that it's gone. It's like the sun.
- 46:20Speaker 3: There are days. It's cloudy out right now. Yeah, you
- 46:23Speaker 3: know what I dressed for today? Eighty five and sunny.
- 46:25Speaker 3: You know what's going on.
- 46:26Speaker 1: It doesn't feel so I have on a furry sweater
- 46:28Speaker 1: and like literally my fall jacket clearly like lives in California,
- 46:32Speaker 1: doesn't live in California.
- 46:33Speaker 3: But the fact is is that I know that it's
- 46:36Speaker 3: up there. Yeah, and it's something that you can go
- 46:38Speaker 3: back to and you can believe, I'll never forget. When
- 46:41Speaker 3: I sat down with Neka Ogu mackay, she's a WNBA player,
- 46:44Speaker 3: and we were talking about we were talking about her
- 46:47Speaker 3: experience with depression, and she likened it too sitting inside
- 46:51Speaker 3: of a room and the curtains are drawn and you
- 46:53Speaker 3: have the ability to reach and touch the curtains, but
- 46:56Speaker 3: for some reason that you cannot explain, you're incapable of
- 46:59Speaker 3: drawing them and feeling the sun and feeling the warmth.
- 47:02Speaker 3: But you know it's there, but you're just stuck, right,
- 47:06Speaker 3: And so to keep that faith and be resilient despite
- 47:10Speaker 3: it feeling as though everything is working against you. It's relatable,
- 47:17Speaker 3: it is heartbreaking. It is also a beautiful sentiment to
- 47:22Speaker 3: what we are capable of and what you have been
- 47:25Speaker 3: capable of since you've been going through this journey.
- 47:30Speaker 1: We are not preparing for the days when it's perfect.
- 47:34Speaker 1: We say this a lot in the class, like we're
- 47:36Speaker 1: not practicing for the day you wake up and you're like,
- 47:40Speaker 1: life is fucking amazing and I feel great. Those days
- 47:42Speaker 1: will come great, celebrate them. It's what about all of
- 47:46Speaker 1: the other days when it's just not right at your fingertips?
- 47:53Speaker 1: This is where the tools and coming back to. All Right,
- 47:56Speaker 1: I don't feel like doing it, but I'm gonna go
- 47:58Speaker 1: move my body. I don't feel like drinking water today,
- 48:02Speaker 1: but I know that.
- 48:03Speaker 2: That's good for me. I don't feel like.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Maybe getting together with that friend where I'm going to
- 48:11Speaker 1: have to be honest, but I know that's one of
- 48:13Speaker 1: the tools in my tool belt.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:16Speaker 3: It's also funny because you can liken it to getting
- 48:19Speaker 3: into a new relationship and you in those first like
- 48:22Speaker 3: three or four dates, it's like all excited and giddy
- 48:26Speaker 3: and whatever, and it's beautiful.
- 48:28Speaker 2: But the fact is is that.
- 48:30Speaker 3: You can do good times with anyone, but you can't
- 48:32Speaker 3: do bad times with everyone. So what happens when the
- 48:35Speaker 3: curtains are drawn and you can't open it up. How
- 48:38Speaker 3: does that person show up for you? And is that
- 48:41Speaker 3: in a way that serves you truly? And then going
- 48:44Speaker 3: back to what we started to talk about before, being
- 48:47Speaker 3: honest with yourself. If the answer is no, because you
- 48:49Speaker 3: can't hold on to the good times and pretend that
- 48:52Speaker 3: that feeling is going to sink in when you have
- 48:53Speaker 3: other unhappiness in your life.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Oh, because that's I mean, that is what it is.
- 49:00Speaker 1: There's it would be. We would be gaslighting ourselves if
- 49:08Speaker 1: we did not allow ourselves to be really honest of
- 49:15Speaker 1: all of those other days. You know what I mean,
- 49:17Speaker 1: like this, why don't I feel happy today? Why isn't
- 49:20Speaker 1: and everything working out? Life is supposed to be this
- 49:23Speaker 1: and this that we would be gaslighting ourselves. What's next
- 49:30Speaker 1: for you? If you don't mind me asking what's next? Well,
- 49:33Speaker 1: I'm here now in Los Angeles. I'm loving living in
- 49:36Speaker 1: La class Wise, we have the La Studio going. I'm
- 49:40Speaker 1: about to go to San Francisco do some pop ups
- 49:43Speaker 1: and then lead the class for treatment in Bali, which
- 49:45Speaker 1: I'm very excited about. We have launched yoga and meditation
- 49:51Speaker 1: at the class. We're launching an audio series where you
- 49:53Speaker 1: can take meditation, walking meditation, yoga, the class itself outside
- 49:59Speaker 1: and do the practice with us off staring at a screen.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Lots more retreats and events and all the things happening
- 50:07Speaker 1: all over And then you know, a big piece also
- 50:13Speaker 1: me moving out here personally was giving my body a
- 50:15Speaker 1: chance to heal. There's a lot of procedures that go
- 50:19Speaker 1: into the fertility journey. There's a lot of poking and
- 50:22Speaker 1: prodding and a lot of things that don't necessarily feel
- 50:26Speaker 1: great and hormones and medicine, which, thank goodness, those things exist,
- 50:31Speaker 1: but I've realized it, Yeah, like it. None of that
- 50:36Speaker 1: stuff just automatically shifts when you stop doing it. There's
- 50:39Speaker 1: a physical residue and an energetic residue. So I'm giving
- 50:42Speaker 1: myself permission of you know, like let's hike, Let's have
- 50:47Speaker 1: time when I'm not working to take walks. Let's be
- 50:50Speaker 1: in that state where my body can do what it
- 50:54Speaker 1: needs to do and stay open to what this potentially
- 50:59Speaker 1: will look like for me in building a family if
- 51:02Speaker 1: that's what we do.
- 51:04Speaker 3: I told you what my perception is of you, and
- 51:07Speaker 3: I'm sure like someone goes maybe to your social media
- 51:11Speaker 3: and they see this woman who is a VP at
- 51:14Speaker 3: the class, and she's teaching, and she has these wisdoms.
- 51:16Speaker 3: But when you look in the mirror, what is it
- 51:20Speaker 3: that you see looking back at you.
- 51:26Speaker 1: I see someone that is choosing to get up for
- 51:33Speaker 1: another day. I see someone that is committed to keep going.
- 51:44Speaker 1: I see someone who's not is choosing not to escape
- 51:52Speaker 1: and numb the pain. I see someone who's not afraid
- 52:02Speaker 1: to be.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Vulnerable and raw and wailing to learn still be a student.
- 52:14Speaker 1: I know this word sensitive gets misused and can have
- 52:18Speaker 1: a negative connotation to it, But as I've learned more
- 52:23Speaker 1: about it and look at it from a place of sensing,
- 52:28Speaker 1: which I believe, we're all sensitive, right, and people are like, oh,
- 52:31Speaker 1: you feel too much, you're sensitive, and then it becomes
- 52:33Speaker 1: this bad thing, and then people it can be told
- 52:35Speaker 1: to us in a way of gaslighting our feelings. But
- 52:38Speaker 1: I see someone who is highly sensitive and not from
- 52:43Speaker 1: a place of experiencing life in their sensing body.
- 52:49Speaker 3: That's an interesting definition and I really appreciate it. But
- 52:53Speaker 3: there had to be times where you just completely broke down.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Oh one thousand and those days still occur, definitely. Yeah, where.
- 53:06Speaker 1: What is needed is the curl up in a ball
- 53:10Speaker 1: on the ground and sob and whale, and I think
- 53:16Speaker 1: that that's healthy.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Yeah, God, I think that.
- 53:19Speaker 3: That like a once weekly crying question over here.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Yeah, or cancel all the things, cancel the plans, stay home,
- 53:28Speaker 1: or go outside when you're not supposed to be outside,
- 53:32Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, but this work has helped reframe that
- 53:38Speaker 1: for me. I didn't I've never saw people break down before.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I never that was not like, this is part of living,
- 53:47Speaker 1: this is part of being human. It was hold it in,
- 53:51Speaker 1: don't talk about.
- 53:52Speaker 2: It and perform or you know.
- 53:57Speaker 1: So when there are moments in class this is this
- 53:59Speaker 1: happened this week. There were a couple people processing very deeply,
- 54:04Speaker 1: and in that moment, I was just so grateful. I
- 54:07Speaker 1: was like, how amazing that not only do we get
- 54:10Speaker 1: to do this, but there are other people in here
- 54:13Speaker 1: that are going to be affected by this in such
- 54:15Speaker 1: a great way. To know that that is part of
- 54:19Speaker 1: the human experience.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:22Speaker 3: I love the way that you elanguage that processing so deeply.
- 54:27Speaker 3: That is definitely a vernacular that has been shared in
- 54:30Speaker 3: a way that makes it seem better than there was.
- 54:33Speaker 2: This person breaking down on that free yeah.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I've been there, right, And when we
- 54:41Speaker 3: go through these moments where we quote unquote process so deeply.
- 54:44Speaker 3: I have never come out on the other side and
- 54:47Speaker 3: thought to myself, damn, I wish I hadn't done that.
- 54:50Speaker 2: No, you're not like that was a waste of time. No. Never.
- 54:53Speaker 1: In the moment leading up to it, there's resistance, probably
- 54:57Speaker 1: because we don't spend as much time there and it's
- 54:59Speaker 1: maybe unfamiliar, and for myself personally, there was a residue
- 55:04Speaker 1: of fear that I wouldn't be able to come out
- 55:06Speaker 1: of it. Once you know you can come out of it,
- 55:09Speaker 1: going into it makes it way less scary.
- 55:11Speaker 3: I also think that in the moment when that is happening,
- 55:14Speaker 3: the quote unquote processing, there's also a certain amount of
- 55:18Speaker 3: shame that can be around that, especially in an environment
- 55:20Speaker 3: where that processing is happening in any sort of public
- 55:24Speaker 3: setting or anyone's around, even if they're your most compassionate
- 55:27Speaker 3: and beautiful lover. It's like sometimes were made to feel
- 55:31Speaker 3: as though we shouldn't be emotional, you shouldn't be vocal,
- 55:36Speaker 3: you shouldn't be angry, whatever it is, insert emotion here,
- 55:40Speaker 3: And when you get to a place as you're describing that,
- 55:43Speaker 3: you understand that these emotions are inherently human that it
- 55:47Speaker 3: enables you to get past that shame with time, with time,
- 55:51Speaker 3: and then get to the other side.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Yep. And in those situations there's a reminder there, like
- 55:58Speaker 1: it's not necessarily safe to process with everybody, you know,
- 56:01Speaker 1: Like there are lots of people who will not be
- 56:03Speaker 1: able to hold space for you, and they could be
- 56:06Speaker 1: just not equipped, they could be didn't have that exposure
- 56:09Speaker 1: in their life, but it's uncomfortable for them, So of
- 56:12Speaker 1: course the're not gonna be a hold space for you.
- 56:14Speaker 1: So knowing that discernment of okay, over here not over there,
- 56:20Speaker 1: I don't break down with everybody. I don't break down
- 56:23Speaker 1: in every situation.
- 56:24Speaker 2: I've learned that.
- 56:27Speaker 1: Carving out that space for yourself and knowing where you
- 56:30Speaker 1: can do that is self care.
- 56:32Speaker 3: I think that communication of like how can I show
- 56:34Speaker 3: up for you? Yes, that's what's important.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Definitely important. And Terry Real, who's written a bunch of
- 56:42Speaker 1: books about relationships and he's a therapist and an author
- 56:46Speaker 1: and speaker, he talks about holding space and I love
- 56:49Speaker 1: his definition of it. It's without judgment or agenda, because
- 56:54Speaker 1: sometimes holding space is like it can feel really woul wuie,
- 56:57Speaker 1: like oh, I'm a holding.
- 56:58Speaker 2: Space for you.
- 56:59Speaker 1: But then it's like, well, what is it and what
- 57:00Speaker 1: is a space that allows somebody to feel safe? If
- 57:04Speaker 1: we can approach whoever it is without any agenda or judgment,
- 57:10Speaker 1: sometimes that's the greatest gift we can give somebody.
- 57:13Speaker 2: I totally agree.
- 57:14Speaker 3: Everyone gets to make the decisions that work best for
- 57:17Speaker 3: their boundaries, right, and understanding and coming to terms with
- 57:20Speaker 3: what those boundaries are is part of the human experience.
- 57:25Speaker 3: I didn't know that there was yoga and meditation now.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Yeah, we launched it a couple months ago on the platform,
- 57:30Speaker 1: and so you can take yoga with us in studio
- 57:34Speaker 1: and on the digital platform.
- 57:37Speaker 3: The class going somewhere beyond LA and New York.
- 57:41Speaker 2: Question mark, Oh, the million dollar questions. We would love
- 57:46Speaker 2: to be everywhere? Of course, we would love to be everywhere.
- 57:49Speaker 1: I think right now we're committed to growing here Los
