- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 17th.
- 0:11Real hope, real life. Have you ever been really
- 0:15excited about something, only to feel that excitement drain away
- 0:19when it didn't turn out how you expected?
- 0:22Maybe you put your hope in a relationship that faded, a goal
- 0:25you didn't reach, or a plan that completely fell apart.
- 0:30That kind of disappointment can leave you guarded, even cynical,
- 0:33wondering if it's safer not to hope at all.
- 0:36But God never meant for hope to be fragile or temporary.
- 0:40He designed real hope to give life.
- 0:42Proverbs chapter 10, verses 27 to 28 speak straight into this.
- 0:48It tells us that the fear of the Lord prolongs life and that the
- 0:51hope of the righteous brings joy while the expectation of the
- 0:55wicked perishes. In other words, where you place
- 0:58your hope determines what kind of future you experience.
- 1:02Hope rooted in temporary things eventually runs out, but hope
- 1:06rooted in God produces joy that doesn't depend on circumstances.
- 1:11Then in Acts chapter 17, Paul is speaking to people who had
- 1:15filled their lives with ideas, philosophies, and beliefs, yet
- 1:19we're still searching for meaning.
- 1:21He delivers a clear and loving challenge in Acts chapter 17,
- 1:25verse 30. He says that God now commands
- 1:28all people everywhere to repent. That word repent isn't about
- 1:31shame. It's about turning.
- 1:34Turning away from empty pursuits, turning toward the God
- 1:38who gives real life. Paul is saying God is calling
- 1:41you to stop settling for lesser hopes.
- 1:43He's inviting you into something better, something lasting,
- 1:47something alive. Real hope isn't pretending
- 1:50everything is fine. It's trusting God even when
- 1:53things are. It's anchoring your heart in
- 1:55truth when emotions fluctuate. It's choosing to believe that
- 1:59God's way leads to life, even when the world offers louder,
- 2:03flashier alternatives. This matters because what you
- 2:06hope and shapes how you live. If your hope is in people,
- 2:10you'll always fear losing them. If your hope is in success,
- 2:14you'll never feel like you've done enough.
- 2:16If your hope is an approval, you'll constantly adjust
- 2:19yourself to fit expectations. But when your hope is in God,
- 2:22joy becomes steady, Peace becomes possible.
- 2:25Life becomes meaningful. God's call to turn toward Him is
- 2:30deeply personal. It's an invitation to stop
- 2:33wasting energy on what can't satisfy and to discover the joy
- 2:37that comes from walking with Him.
- 2:39Real hope doesn't disappoint because it's rooted in who God
- 2:42is, not in what you can control. You don't have to give up on
- 2:46hope. You just need to place it in the
- 2:48right place. When your hope is in God, it
- 2:51doesn't fade, it grows and it leads you into real life.
- 2:55Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
- 2:57offering me a hope that doesn't fade or disappoint.
- 3:01Help me to recognize where I've placed my hope in temporary
- 3:04things and gently turn my heart back to You.
- 3:07Teach me to trust You fully and to build my life on what truly
- 3:10lasts. Fill me with joy that comes from
- 3:13knowing You and give me courage to follow your call with my
- 3:16whole heart in Jesus name, Amen. What if the way you pray changed
- 3:21because you truly knew who God is?

- 4:41Proverbs chapter 10 verses 27 to 28 World English Bible The fear
- 4:47of Yahweh prolongs days, but the years of the wicked shall be
- 4:50shortened. The prospect of the righteous is
- 4:52joy, but the hope of the wicked will perish.
- 4:55Acts chapter 17 World English Bible Now when they had passed
- 4:59through Amphibolis and Apollonia, they came to
- 5:02Thessalonica where there was a Jewish synagogue.
- 5:05Paul, as was his custom, went into them, and for three Sabbath
- 5:08days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and
- 5:11demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again
- 5:14from the dead, and saying This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you,
- 5:18is the Christ. Some of them were persuaded and
- 5:21joined Paul and Selas of the devout Greeks, a great
- 5:24multitude, and not a few of the chief women, but the unpersuaded
- 5:28Jews took along some wicked men from the marketplace, and
- 5:31gathering a crowd, set the city in an uproar.
- 5:34Assaulting the House of Jason, they sought to bring them out to
- 5:37the people. When they didn't find them, they
- 5:39dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of
- 5:42the city, crying. These who have turned the world
- 5:45upside down have come here also whom Jason has received.
- 5:49These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that
- 5:52there is another king Jesus. The multitude and the rulers of
- 5:56the city were troubled when they heard these things.
- 5:59When they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they
- 6:02let them go. The brothers immediately sent
- 6:04Paul and Selas away by night to Berea.
- 6:07When they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue.
- 6:10Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that
- 6:13they received the Word with all readiness of mind, examining the
- 6:17Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
- 6:20Many of them therefore believed also of the prominent Greek
- 6:23women, and not a few men. But when the Jews of
- 6:26Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed
- 6:29by Paul at Berea also, they came there likewise, agitating the
- 6:34multitudes. Then the brothers immediately
- 6:36sent out Paul to go as far as to the sea, and Selas and Timothy
- 6:40still stayed there. But those who escorted Paul
- 6:43brought him as far as Athens, receiving a commandment to Selas
- 6:46and Timothy that they should come to him.
- 6:48Very quickly they departed. Now, while Paul waited for them
- 6:52at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him.
- 6:55As he saw the city full of idols, so he reasoned in the
- 6:58synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the
- 7:01marketplace every day with those who met him.
- 7:05Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also were
- 7:07conversing with him. Some said, What does this
- 7:10babbler want to say? Others said He seems to be
- 7:13advocating foreign deities because he preached Jesus and
- 7:16the resurrection. They took hold of him and
- 7:19brought him to the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this
- 7:22new teaching is which you are speaking about?
- 7:24For you bring certain strange things to our ears.
- 7:27We want to know, therefore, what these things mean.
- 7:30Now all the Athenians and the strangers living there spent
- 7:33their time and nothing else but either to tell or to hear some
- 7:36new thing. Paul stood in the middle of the
- 7:38Areopagus and said, You men of Athens, I perceive that you are
- 7:42very religious in all things. For as I passed along and
- 7:45observed the objects of your worship, I also found an altar
- 7:48with this inscription to an unknown God.
- 7:51What therefore you worship in ignorance?
- 7:53I announced to you the God who made the world and all things in
- 7:56it. He, being Lord of heaven and
- 7:59earth, doesn't dwell in temples made with hands.
- 8:02He isn't served by men's hands as though he needed anything,
- 8:05seeing He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things.
- 8:09He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all
- 8:12the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons and
- 8:16the boundaries of their dwellings, that they should seek
- 8:18the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for Him and find Him,
- 8:22though He is not far from each one of us.
- 8:24For in Him we live, move, and have our being, as some of your
- 8:28own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.
- 8:31Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the
- 8:34divine nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by
- 8:38art and design of man. The times of ignorance,
- 8:41therefore God overlooked. But now He commands that all
- 8:45people everywhere should repent, because He has appointed a day
- 8:48in which He will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom
- 8:51he has ordained, of which he has given assurance to all men, in
- 8:55that he has raised him from the dead.
- 8:57Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some
- 9:00mocked, but others said, we want to hear you again concerning
- 9:03this. Thus Paul went out from among
- 9:05them, but certain men joined with him and believed, including
- 9:09Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others
- 9:13with them. Thanks for joining us on Bible
