- 0:04Speaker 1: to wake up. The circuit on 987. Sonia here with
- 0:08Speaker 1: you this morning. I am solo and yours. Joakim is
- 0:10Speaker 1: on MC today, unfortunately, but I've replaced him with three
- 0:14Speaker 1: lovely looking people in the morning. Thank you so much
- 0:17Speaker 1: for joining me here today. Um, it's a shame that
- 0:20Speaker 1: Joakim isn't here because I've been trying to convince him
- 0:22Speaker 1: to like do a road trip with me.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Um, firstly, have the courage to drive in Singapore. I
- 0:27Speaker 1: think that's the first thing I wanted to let him know.
- 0:30Speaker 1: But please join me in welcoming Marcus, Crizia, and Aiden
- 0:35Speaker 1: to the studio. Thank you so much for joining me. Morning. Hi,
- 0:38Speaker 1: good morning. Still waking up, is it, guys? 100%. Are
- 0:41Speaker 1: you all OK? OK, so to give you some context, um,
- 0:45Speaker 1: our friends over at BYD have very kindly been, um,
- 0:48Speaker 1: working with us on our show for quite some time now.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I think not just us here at 987, but plenty
- 0:52Speaker 1: of stations here at Media Corp too.
- 0:54Speaker 1: And um we're just very excited to see what else
- 0:56Speaker 1: they have in store and what else is happening. Um,
- 0:58Speaker 1: I feel like when I think of BYD now, I
- 1:01Speaker 1: think of all these road trips, I think of all
- 1:03Speaker 1: these like fun things that you do, and Marcus, you
- 1:05Speaker 1: actually had the chance to go on a trip recently. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:09Speaker 1: tell me about the trip and where did you go,
- 1:10Speaker 1: what did you do? So we went to Chengdu we
- 1:13Speaker 1: were switching cars every day, so we were going to
- 1:15Speaker 1: different places. So it's a long trip in the mountains. So, um,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I was mainly in the B8 uh B and B5.
- 1:27Speaker 1: B5 is already in Singapore and in China, uh, it's
- 1:30Speaker 1: not called like Denza. It's actually under the under another
- 1:34Speaker 1: brand called Fung Cheng Bao, but you can't like, it's
- 1:37Speaker 1: hard to pronounce it outside of China.
- 1:38Speaker 1: China. So they put it under like Denza, which is
- 1:41Speaker 1: very interesting. And then when we're driving up the mountains,
- 1:45Speaker 1: it's a lot of nature, you know, it's a lot
- 1:47Speaker 1: of untouched nature. And then when you're driving an EV,
- 1:50Speaker 1: when you're using like this sort of like you're reducing
- 1:53Speaker 1: carbon footprint and then it sorts of sort of like
- 1:56Speaker 1: helps you to
- 1:58Speaker 1: Appreciate the nature because essentially when you're reducing carbon footprint
- 2:02Speaker 1: you're like preserving this like untouched nature for your next generation.
- 2:06Speaker 1: They won't see just through your like photos and stuff.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So with and also because the EV is very quiet, right,
- 2:12Speaker 1: when you're driving up this nature, you tend to be
- 2:14Speaker 1: more appreciative because you can, your, your senses get heightened.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Like there's a lot of like cows, a lot of yaks, not,
- 2:21Speaker 1: not cows, yaks, a lot of yaks because yaks live
- 2:25Speaker 1: up in the altitude, tons of them.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And then, uh, you just, you're just more appreciative of
- 2:31Speaker 1: like this whole like nature when you're driving an EV.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Would you say that this is your alley in terms
- 2:37Speaker 1: of your I mean we all follow you and we
- 2:40Speaker 1: see some of your stuff out there as well. What,
- 2:44Speaker 1: what about this trip challenged you in terms of your
- 2:47Speaker 1: content creation? Hm, I don't think there's a content creation.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think it's, there's a lot of like
- 2:55Speaker 1: There's a lot of angles we can, we can do
- 2:57Speaker 1: with content creation, but the one challenge I have is
- 3:00Speaker 1: when we're going up the altitudes. I am very, very,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I consider myself to be more healthy, but you know
- 3:05Speaker 1: when you're more healthy, you need more oxygen. When you're
- 3:07Speaker 1: going up the altitude, so it's like 4000 m above
- 3:10Speaker 1: sea level, there is no oxygen.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Oxygen there. They were like saying, OK, they were like saying, right, you,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you cannot, uh, breathe in like too, too deep of
- 3:19Speaker 1: a breath, too hard. You must move slowly. But you know,
- 3:23Speaker 1: excited teenagers, once they get out of the car, we
- 3:25Speaker 1: started running teenager and Gladys.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And then we started doing like headstands and everything and
- 3:31Speaker 1: then after that we regret. Like my whole face turned white,
- 3:34Speaker 1: my lips turned purple. I almost died. Yeah, they had
- 3:36Speaker 1: to hook me up to the oxygen machine for real,
- 3:39Speaker 1: for real, for real. Yeah honestly sounds pretty scary but
- 3:43Speaker 1: it's pretty fun, pretty fun. But did you then, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 1: more features about the car, for example, while you were
- 3:50Speaker 1: on this trip because I feel like, and you guys
- 3:53Speaker 1: can chime in at any time, um, you've been on
- 3:55Speaker 1: car trips too, obviously.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You know, when you, when you spend that much time
- 3:59Speaker 1: in the same vehicle over the course of that, like,
- 4:02Speaker 1: you know, 4 or 5 days or even 6 days,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you start to become one with your vehicle, like you
- 4:10Speaker 1: know everything about it. So what were some features that
- 4:17Speaker 1: you found yourself using more?
- 4:18Speaker 1: So it was very, our driver is very cute. He
- 4:21Speaker 1: was just driving. He said this is a driver's vehicle,
- 4:23Speaker 1: and then he turned back and he just gave me
- 4:25Speaker 1: a thumbs up for like 5 seconds. I'm like I
- 4:28Speaker 1: have a video of that just to prove a point. Wow,
- 4:30Speaker 1: that's a big flex. And then, uh, you can, there
- 4:34Speaker 1: is this function from the ZTG 9 where it's like.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Uh, there's this light that comes up from the booth
- 4:42Speaker 1: and then you just have to step on the, the
- 4:44Speaker 1: light two times and then the booth just like opens up.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So it's very intuitive. It's very intuitive, and also the
- 4:52Speaker 1: massage function is very, very, it's very good. Yeah, I mean,
- 4:56Speaker 1: I don't think you, I don't think you can live
- 4:59Speaker 1: without it, right? So, um, seeing how you're the head
- 5:02Speaker 1: of sales over at Denza, if I'm, I'm not wrong, right,
- 5:05Speaker 1: that is your title right now.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Um, you are probably gonna tell us what we can
- 5:10Speaker 1: expect to see over at the showroom and maybe we
- 5:13Speaker 1: can even experience some of these features that Marcus has
- 5:17Speaker 1: been talking about.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's so nice to hear from Marcus
- 5:20Speaker 2: about his experience, the adventure. It sounds so exciting, but
- 5:24Speaker 2: you know, at BYD and Denzel, we do a lot
- 5:26Speaker 2: of exciting things. Yeah. So this weekend on the 24th
- 5:29Speaker 2: to 25th of October, we're gonna be having a booth
- 5:33Speaker 2: for BYD.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And Denza at the car expo. And aside from that,
- 5:37Speaker 2: we're also celebrating our 30,000 customers. Would you believe BYD
- 5:42Speaker 2: has reached an exciting milestone of 30,000 customers in Singapore.
- 5:45Speaker 2: And if you're already a BYD or a Dza customer,
- 5:48Speaker 2: you're part of this milestone too. And for us at
- 5:51Speaker 2: BYD it's a great opportunity to say a big thank
- 5:54Speaker 2: you to our customers and also to our media friends
- 5:58Speaker 2: who get to try our vehicles on a daily basis.
- 6:00Speaker 2: For their trust and support. It's really something worth celebrating
- 6:05Speaker 2: and what a better way to celebrate this milestone with
- 6:08Speaker 2: some super special deals at the car expo this weekend,
- 6:10Speaker 1: right? And what kind of, what kind of prizes are
- 6:13Speaker 1: you giving away? I heard some pretty good stuff. Yes,
- 6:16Speaker 1: of course.
- 6:17Speaker 2: So if you've been thinking about getting a BYD, this
- 6:20Speaker 2: could be a great weekend to check one out. There
- 6:22Speaker 2: will be 5 winners every hour with a total of
- 6:25Speaker 2: $120,000 worth.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Of discount up for grabs. And aside from that, customers
- 6:31Speaker 2: get to enjoy attractive Sherwin prizes with every purchase. So
- 6:35Speaker 2: there's a lot of things going on aside from the
- 6:38Speaker 2: vehicle lineup that we have, uh, and customers also get
- 6:41Speaker 2: to enjoy up to 11,000 worth of BYD ownership benefits,
- 6:45Speaker 2: and there are really plenty of reasons to come down
- 6:48Speaker 2: to check out the BYD range and special offers.
- 6:51Speaker 1: OK, yeah, for sure. I mean, look, plenty of our.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Listeners tuning in right now, they might be making plans,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know, for the next week or so, and they
- 6:59Speaker 1: might just want to stop by, see what's up. Yeah. OK,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but also at these events, you will see a lot
- 7:05Speaker 1: of automative journalists at these events, and that's where Aiden
- 7:09Speaker 1: comes in in just a little while. How are you
- 7:11Speaker 1: doing today, Aiden? You still good? It's too early. It's
- 7:14Speaker 1: too early to function. But I'm glad to be here.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Thanks for having me. Dude, you know what, I don't
- 7:17Speaker 1: think I've ever seen you this early in the morning.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Have I? No, right?
- 7:22Speaker 1: No one should see us this early in the morning. It's,
- 7:24Speaker 1: it's criminal. Um we're gonna take a very, very short break.
- 7:27Speaker 1: When we come back, I want to find out a
- 7:29Speaker 1: little bit more because whenever I see it, and he's
- 7:32Speaker 1: always very busy, he's making videos, he's taking notes, you know,
- 7:35Speaker 1: he's over at these launches.
- 7:37Speaker 1: We'll touch on that in just a little bit. Talking
- 7:39Speaker 1: all things cars this morning. I really wish Joakim were
- 7:42Speaker 1: here for this to convince him to finally get on
- 7:44Speaker 1: a journey to find a car of his choice, perhaps,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you know, I hope that happens in the next, like,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I don't know, year or two, hopefully. Need your help
- 7:51Speaker 1: to convince me, uh, convince him. Please welcome back Trizia, Marcus,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and Aiden. Thank you for joining me here this morning.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Thank you for your energy. Um, and I think we
- 8:00Speaker 1: were just about to get to Aiden just before we, uh,
- 8:03Speaker 1: got cut off and we took a short break earlier on.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Now, speaking from a view of an automotive journalist, which
- 8:10Speaker 1: you've been doing this for how long now? How many years? Yeah, um,
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know, in this day and age now in Singapore,
- 8:19Speaker 1: there's so many options when it comes to like EVs
- 8:21Speaker 1: or people are still thinking like, how do I start
- 8:24Speaker 1: my EV journey? Um, what would you say to that
- 8:26Speaker 1: person from a point of view where you've tried so
- 8:29Speaker 1: many EVs already? What would you say you're most excited about?
- 8:33Speaker 1: Oh, I, I, I mean, what I'm most excited about, there's,
- 8:37Speaker 1: you know, a couple of different options coming out, but
- 8:39Speaker 1: for what people should look at if they're looking to
- 8:41Speaker 1: get into the whole EV space is to focus on
- 8:45Speaker 1: what they need. Do they need 7 seats? Do you need?
- 8:51Speaker 1: I mean, if you've got a big family, if you
- 8:53Speaker 1: ask my mother, she, she'll always say she needs 7 seats.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I don't agree, but you know, that's what she'll say.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So it really is a case of
- 9:00Speaker 1: Looking at what you need from your car and then
- 9:05Speaker 1: tailoring your car to what you need instead of looking
- 9:09Speaker 1: at the car and then tailoring your needs to what
- 9:11Speaker 1: the car, the car has. You know, you see a
- 9:16Speaker 1: car with 7 seats, for example, the Sea Lion 8,
- 9:18Speaker 1: and you think, you know what, I could use 7
- 9:20Speaker 1: seats even if you don't really need 7 seats when
- 9:23Speaker 1: they are, you know, much more.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Shall we say economical options available such as the CO6
- 9:28Speaker 1: EV or the you know incoming A21 that's just been
- 9:33Speaker 1: launched that I'm about to go try and I'm quite
- 9:37Speaker 1: interested in that one. So I, I don't need 7 seats,
- 9:40Speaker 1: but I do like, you know, a nice small nimble car.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So that's why I'm quite looking forward to taking out
- 9:46Speaker 1: the A21.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And then of course, I'm also looking forward to the
- 9:49Speaker 1: Z9GT because who doesn't like big power numbers, big luxury,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and you know all sorts of bleeding edge technology that
- 9:59Speaker 1: the Z9GT has. So I think that's also one of
- 10:01Speaker 1: the big cars that
- 10:03Speaker 1: BYD Dza releasing in the near future that I think
- 10:06Speaker 1: people will be really um really interested to see some
- 10:13Speaker 1: of our incentives. So with incentives in 2027, what do
- 10:18Speaker 1: you think if I'm if I'm a buyer in 2027,
- 10:21Speaker 1: what do you think I should consider before like making
- 10:23Speaker 1: a decision, for example?
- 10:27Speaker 1: In Singapore, no matter whether or not there are any
- 10:29Speaker 1: incentives or rebates or surcharges, the bottom line is that
- 10:33Speaker 1: it is still rather pricey. So to me it's if,
- 10:37Speaker 1: if you've already set your mind on buying a car,
- 10:40Speaker 1: not much is going to change between now and, you know,
- 10:43Speaker 1: 2027 in terms of it's not going to get any cheaper.
- 10:46Speaker 1: So a lot of people like to, that I've seen,
- 10:50Speaker 1: they do like to waffle on about, oh, you know,
- 10:53Speaker 1: we'll see, or let's see how it goes.
- 10:56Speaker 1: To me, it doesn't make sense because if you've already
- 10:58Speaker 1: set your mind on knowing you're going to buy a
- 11:00Speaker 1: car and you know what the regulation change is gonna be,
- 11:04Speaker 1: I don't understand what the weight is for because, exactly,
- 11:08Speaker 1: and I don't think the price is gonna go down,
- 11:09Speaker 1: you know, any further than it currently is. For example, when,
- 11:12Speaker 1: when my family bought our last car, um, we bought
- 11:15Speaker 1: it in 2020, and they were thinking, and they, they
- 11:19Speaker 1: were saying, you know, should we just wait and see,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, until the, you know, COE runs out and
- 11:23Speaker 1: then see how it is, then I was like, no,
- 11:25Speaker 1: if you want to buy a car, just do it
- 11:26Speaker 1: now while the COE is a reasonable amount.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I think it's a very, I don't know whether it's
- 11:30Speaker 1: an Asian parent thing like we say wait and see,
- 11:32Speaker 1: wait and see, maybe a better thing, better thing will
- 11:34Speaker 1: come by or something you know you're going to make the,
- 11:42Speaker 1: make the change. Yeah. Alright. Thank you so much for
- 11:45Speaker 1: sharing that. Um before we let you go, Marcus, one
- 11:47Speaker 1: more question for you here. If you could choose one
- 11:51Speaker 1: BYD model for your next road trip, what would it be?
- 11:55Speaker 1: Definitely the B8, but I don't think it's coming to
- 11:58Speaker 1: Singapore soon. But because I sat in it and it
- 12:01Speaker 1: was like very life-changing. On the outside it's very robust.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It's like a
- 12:07Speaker 1: You'll feel that it's a kidnap vehicle, but I wanna
- 12:09Speaker 1: get kidnapped in it. I wanna get kidnapped in it.
- 12:12Speaker 1: It's very comfortable and very spacious inside. Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 12:15Speaker 1: you're the people that you kidnapped inside, it's gonna have
- 12:17Speaker 1: a lot of good time inside. Yeah, very. It's very,
- 12:21Speaker 1: very big inside, very unassuming. OK, I got you. I
- 12:26Speaker 1: hear you, I hear you.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Suzie, before we let you go, anything else you would
- 12:30Speaker 1: like to fill us in on looking forward to over
- 12:32Speaker 1: the next, um, month or so?
- 12:34Speaker 2: So again, I'm inviting everyone to come down to the expo,
- 12:37Speaker 2: see the BYD and Denza booths, see the CL7 DMI Z9GT,
- 12:41Speaker 2: Dnza D9, Densa B5, and all the vehicle lineup of BYD,
- 12:45Speaker 2: but I think I can share that.
- 12:47Speaker 2: As customers compare these vehicle models, it goes beyond the
- 12:52Speaker 2: uh vehicle ownership because we have the BYD and then
- 12:55Speaker 2: the lifestyle membership. Recently we launched the partnership with 88
- 13:00Speaker 2: partners that we have over 100 partners. So we go
- 13:03Speaker 2: beyond just selling vehicles, but giving a good ownership experience
- 13:07Speaker 2: to our customers wherein they can.
- 13:09Speaker 2: this benefits across different categories like dining, shopping, travel, and
- 13:14Speaker 2: a lot of things. So there's really a lot of
- 13:16Speaker 2: uh exciting things that we can offer to everyone.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So it's all-rounded experience. Yeah. Thank you so much for
- 13:23Speaker 1: taking the time to come out and share with us
- 13:24Speaker 1: this morning. I know it's incredibly early, but we appreciate
- 13:27Speaker 1: it because you're catching people right at the spot where
- 13:29Speaker 1: they're driving to work right.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Now, they're thinking of what to do. Maybe they want
- 13:32Speaker 1: to get an explore a new vehicle, a new car.
- 13:34Speaker 1: So thank you so much for being here. Thank you
- 13:36Speaker 1: for having me. Yeah. We're still live on TikTok, gonna
- 13:39Speaker 1: officially say bye proper over there. But of course, like
- 13:42Speaker 1: they mentioned, um, I think all of their social media
- 13:44Speaker 1: platforms will be full of content over the next few
- 13:48Speaker 1: weeks or so. So we're looking forward to that as well.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Thanks guys.
