- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The Propers of the Day According to the Roman Missal before 1955. The Feast of Saint Anne, Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, July 26 in the year year of our Lord, 2026.
- 0:22The church honors with the angels in holy joy, the mother of the blessed virgin Mary. As her name, Anne, signifies, grace was poured on her and she was blessed by God forever. By his grace, he made her deserve to be the mother of the mother of God, Filled with the virtues which the Holy Ghost grants to good women, the spouse of Saint Joachim surpassed all women by her riches, which are Mary, whose mother she is, and Jesus, of whom she is grandmother.
- 1:02Her holiness made her leave everything for God, and she thereby acquired this pearl and this treasure. The devotion to Saint Anne is founded on the bond which unites her to Mary and to the Incarnate Word. Its ancient liturgy dates from the sixth century for the East and the eighth century for the West. It was authorized by Urban the fourth in 1378. In 1584, Gregory the thirteenth fixed July 26 as date of the feast and Leo the thirteenth in 1879 extended it to the whole church.
- 1:52In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit. Let us all rejoice in the Lord, celebrating a festival day in honor of blessed Anne, on whose solemnity the angels rejoice and give praise to the Son of God. My heart hath uttered a good word.
- 2:20I speak my works to the King. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Let us all rejoice in the Lord, celebrating a festival day in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on whose solemnity the angels rejoice and give praise to the Son of God. The Collect, let us pray.
- 2:58O God, who didst vouchsafe to bestow upon blessed Anne such grace that she was found worthy to become the mother of her who brought forth thine only begotten son. Mercifully grant that we who celebrate her festival may be helped by her intercession with thee through the same Jesus Christ, thy son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A commemoration of the ninth Sunday after Pentecost. Let thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of thy suppliant people and that thou mayest grant their desire to those that seek, make them ask such things as please thee, through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 4:10Amen. A lesson from the book of Proverbs. A man who has found a valiant wife has found a rare treasure brought from distant shores. Bound to her in loving confidence, he will have no need of spoil. Content, not sorrow, she will bring him as long as life lasts.
- 4:40Does she not busy herself with wool and thread plying her hands with ready skill? Ever, she steers her course like some merchant ship bringing provision from far away. From early dawn, she is up assigning food to the household so that each waiting woman has her share. Ground must be examined and bought and planted out as a vineyard with the earnings of her toil. How briskly she girds herself to the task.
- 5:16How tireless are her arms. Industry she knows is well rewarded and all night long her lamp does not go out. Jealously, she sets her hands to work. Her fingers clutch the spindle. Kindly is her welcome to the poor.
- 5:38Her purse ever open to those in need. Let the snow lie cold if it will. She has no fears for her household. No servant of hers but is warmly clad. Made by her own hands was the coverlet on her bed.
- 5:58The clothes of lawn and purple that she wears. None so honored at the city gate as that husband of hers when he sits in council with the elders of the land. Often she will sell linen of her own weaving or make a girdle for the traveling merchant to buy. Protected by her own industry and good repute, she greets the morrow with a smile. Ripe wisdom governs her speech, but it is kindly instruction she gives.
- 6:37She keeps watch over all that goes on in her house, not content to go through life eating and sleeping. That is why her children are the first to call her blessed. Her husband is loud in her praise. Unrivaled art thou among all women that have enriched their homes. Vain are the winning ways.
- 7:06Beauty is a snare. It is the woman who fears the Lord that will achieve renown. Work such as hers claims its reward. Let her life be spoken of with praise at the city gates. The gradual.
- 7:30Thou hast been a friend to right, an enemy to wrong, and God, thy own God, has given thee an unction to bring thee pride. Alleluia. Alleluia. Thy lips overflow with gracious utterance. The blessing God has given thee can never fail.
- 7:52Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time, Jesus told his disciples this parable. The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. A man has found it and hidden it again.
- 8:17And now for the joy it gives him is going home to sell all that he has and buy that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is as if a trader were looking for rare pearls, And now he has found one pearl of great price and has sold all that he had and bought it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea and enclosed fish of every kind at once. When it was full, the fishermen drew it up and sat down on the beach where they stored all that was worth keeping in their buckets and threw the useless kind away. So it will be when the world is brought to an end.
- 9:12The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the just and will cast them into the furnace of fire where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Have you grasped all this? Yes, Lord, they said to him. And he said to them, every scholar then whose learning is of the kingdom of heaven must be like a rich man who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old. The Offertory The daughters of the king are in thine honor.
- 9:58The queen stood on thy right hand in gilded clothing, all hung about with embroidery. The secret. Graciously have regard on this sacrifice, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that through the intercession of blessed Anne, who was mother of her who brought forth Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, it may profit us unto both devotion and salvation. Through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 10:46A commemoration of the ninth Sunday after Pentecost. Grant to us, we beseech thee, O Lord, that we may worthily frequent these mysteries. For as often as the memorial of this victim is celebrated, the work of our redemption is wrought through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface.
- 11:27Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest.
- 12:22Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Thy lips overflow with gracious utterance. The blessings God has granted thee can never fail.
- 12:44The post communion. Let us pray. We who have been nourished by these heavenly sacraments beseech thee, O Lord our God, that through the intercession of blessed Anne, whom thou didst will to be the mother of her who brought forth thy Son, we may be worthy to attain eternal salvation through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages. Amen. A commemoration of the ninth Sunday after Pentecost.
- 13:31May the communion of Thy sacrament we beseech Thee, O Lord, bring us cleansing and grant us unity through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time as Jesus drew near and caught sight of the city, he wept over it and said, ah, if thou too couldst understand above all in this day that is granted thee the ways that can bring thee peace. As it is, they are hidden from thy sight.
- 14:28The days will come upon thee when thy enemies will fence thee round about, and encircle thee, and press thee hard on every side, and bring down and ruin both thee and thee children that are in thee, not leaving one stone of thee upon another, and all because thou didst not recognize the time of my visiting thee. Then he went into the temple and began driving out those who sold and bought there. It is written, he told them. My house is a house of prayer, and you have made it into a den of thieves. And he taught in the temple daily.
- 15:20In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Saint Anne, pray for us.
