- 0:00Bag alert bag alert bag alert bag alert bag alert folks. That's right Kenny Clark gets paid
- 0:05He gets paid he gets paid he gets paid all right
- 0:10Is it safe to say that the bag alerts are gonna be coming back with a vengeance? I don't know
- 0:15We'll keep a close eye on that but anyway, let's get into these topics. All right. How does Kenny Clark steel?
- 0:22affect ongoing negotiations for
- 0:24Defensive tackles are looking for a deal as well as future free agent defensive tackles and why the defensive
- 0:32Liman market is continuing to rise
- 0:35The all of this and more out won't wait. I forgot breaking news breaking news
- 0:42Jordan love is holding out a training camp. Okay. Is this a major thing? Is this a small thing?
- 0:48What's the reason we're gonna talk about all of this and more on the 16th episode?
- 0:54Okay, 16th were not too far away from 20 the 16th episode of the football junkies podcast
- 1:01I am your host your GM who still is not on a team right now
- 1:06But who already has three mock drafts three years in advance before anyone has it
- 1:13Okay, let's get it. Oh
- 1:43Oh
- 2:14All right folks so as I have previously said defensive tackle for the Packers Kenny Clark has
- 2:22Ain't alright a three-year 64 million dollar extension
- 2:27He gets a 17.5 million dollar signing bonus and he averages around 21 million a year in his base salary
- 2:35It's 15.5 million according to spot rack shadow to who spot rack, okay?
- 2:41Now when we look at Kenny Clark, okay? Kenny Clark is someone who you know
- 2:48He's not gonna be this flashy defensive tackle like an Aaron Donald or Chris Jones
- 2:52That's just you know, gonna put up these crazy numbers and whatnot
- 2:56But he does his job
- 2:59phenomenally when it comes to holding that defensive line for the Packers, okay
- 3:04He has been an anchor for them for a long time in his stat show
- 3:09This past season right so when you look at the 2023 season, right?
- 3:14So Kenny Clark had three past deflections two four fumbles seven and a half sacks 16 quarterback hits nine
- 3:22Tackles for losses. Okay. Now when you look at that, you're probably thinking those aren't really good stats before defensive tackle
- 3:29That's actually really good. That's really productive. Um, you're talking about somebody who has been very consistent
- 3:37You know since entering into the league, okay, you're talking about somebody who?
- 3:43He's he's gonna get the job done when you need him to get the job done Kenny Clark is gonna get the job done
- 3:49That that's just what it is
- 3:51Now when now when you look at, you know, the highest paid defensive tackles, he just got there
- 3:59Okay, he just crushed into the top 10. Okay, so when you look at, you know, the highest paid defensive tackles
- 4:05You have Chris Jones, of course 31.7 million Christian Wilkins
- 4:0927.5 Justin Mendebuque 24.5 Derek Brown and Quinn Williams 24 million
- 4:15Jeffrey Simmons 23.5 to force Buckner 23 million DeRon Payne 22.5
- 4:21Dexter Lawrence 21.8 and Kenny Clark at 21.3 now
- 4:25When we look at all of this, right? You're probably thinking, oh man
- 4:30Well, you know the markets continue to rise a little bit
- 4:32I wonder why it's rising the reason why is because
- 4:36You know since I could probably go as far back as JJ Y
- 4:41You know the defensive defensive linemen have become more and more impactful in the game, right?
- 4:49Now you're probably thinking well, there's only a few people
- 4:53No, when you really look at it from JJ Y to Aaron Donald who just you know
- 4:59Who just retired not too long ago and now you have Chris Jones, you know
- 5:03You have very impactful defense linemen
- 5:07And so what happens is when you have those type of players to come into the league guess what's gonna happen
- 5:12The value for the entire position is just gonna go up
- 5:15Regardless if it's just regardless if those guys are you know, the the creme de la creme at their position
- 5:23Just know there's gonna be other people behind them
- 5:25So when you have a Derek Brown the Dexter Lawrence of the romp pain of the forest Buckner a Javan Hargrave
- 5:32People like that guess what they're gonna get paid as well because why they're consistent
- 5:37They're productive and when you need them to make a play, they're gonna make a play not to mention not to mention
- 5:45offensive linemen
- 5:47aren't as
- 5:49They're not as scouted and as valued as much as a defensive linemen, right case and point
- 5:54You will see a defensive linemen get drafted in the first round top five or even top three, right?
- 6:02But when you look at you know centers or you look at guards or even tackles
- 6:08Not a lot of times they are drafted, you know that high up and if they are then they are a rare breed
- 6:16Within their position right when you have someone like a Trent Williams for instance
- 6:20um who like a Ronnie Stanley or a loremi Tunsel or
- 6:25You know, whatever the case may be when you have those type of players
- 6:29Guess what of course they're gonna be taken pretty high
- 6:32But when you have someone like a Chris Jones, oh, that's an automatic. That's an automatic for first-round pick
- 6:41Automatically, he's gonna get drafted in the first round when you have someone like a JJ why he's gonna get drafted in the first round
- 6:47those type of players and you know as well as when when when you look at
- 6:55How can I say this?
- 6:56Within the past few drafts we have started to see a shift with defensive linemen, right?
- 7:03Instead of them being, you know, the old school big guys. It's like 320 some pounds and it's just you know
- 7:09They just use their power and their strength to just you know
- 7:12Bulldozer people to try to get to the quarterback. You are dealing with somewhat of a revolution
- 7:19Well, not a revolution but somewhat of a transformation where defensive linemen are these smaller statute defensive linemen
- 7:27But who are quick? I'm talking about super quick. They can you know, they can finesse you they can use their power
- 7:34You know, they they come from a wrestling background. They may not come from a wrestling background. You're dealing with people who
- 7:41They're their repertoire is a little bit different than what it was, you know
- 7:46And my generation one and it shows when you have someone like Aaron Don who you know
- 7:52When you look at Aaron Don, you're probably thinking man, they do can't do nothing
- 7:55But when you turn on that tape, guess what? You're talking about somebody who is steamrolling
- 8:02centers guards
- 8:04Both guards center and guard guard guard or whatever you want
- 8:09He has steamrolling them with with little to no problem
- 8:14So I say all that to say this the defensive line market is going to continue to rise
- 8:21Whether we want to admit it or not, okay, and it shows when you look at you know the ongoing
- 8:28Contract negotiations for someone like a Cameron Hayward with Kenny Clark getting his deal
- 8:33What's gonna happen now is?
- 8:35Cam is probably going to say hey, I can do better than what he's done
- 8:41My stats show this this this this this right, but at the same time the Steelers may try to use
- 8:49Kenny Clark's his deal and then probably say
- 8:52We'll probably give you this we can give you this we're not gonna give you
- 8:56You know top five highest paid and rightfully so but but at the same time if you're someone, you know
- 9:02Like a Cameron Hayward or a defensive lineman who's about to be a free agent
- 9:08You do have to look at you know the the market continuing to rise
- 9:12And you do want to try to see if you can get at least a piece a piece of the pie, right?
- 9:17Because when you look at next year's defensive line will defensive tackle
- 9:22Free agency class just strictly then you have Cam Hayward, of course you have Malik Collins you have
- 9:28Dave and Godchild you have DJ Jones you have BJ Hill you have Harrison
- 9:33Harrison Phillips you have Javon Kinlaw just to name a few right now when you break down their market value
- 9:40Unfortunately, there's probably only two people that actually had other market value actually shown everybody else is
- 9:47Wasn't shown so I just you know I just left that alone
- 9:50But when you look at Cameron Hayward's market value, right? It's a three-year fifty eight point
- 9:56Eight million dollar deal. So he'll be making nineteen point six million a year, right?
- 10:01We look at Javon Kinlaw's market value. It's only a one-year six point eight million dollar deal now
- 10:09You're probably wondering, you know, why their value so low now
- 10:13They could be attributed to different things whether it be age production, you know lack of
- 10:20You know playing time whatever the case may be right
- 10:23I don't I don't know because I don't come up with with the with the stuff for for the market values for spot right
- 10:30But what I can say is someone like a Cam Hayward, he probably will get one more big payday
- 10:36Okay, now for someone like a Javon Kinlaw
- 10:39I don't know because Javon Kinlaw at this point in his career has been has been more of a journeyman and
- 10:47Who who's more like a plug-and-play?
- 10:50More than you know a franchise type of defensive lineman who can get you six or seven or eight or nine or even ten sacks
- 11:00You know a season right and you know it definitely shows now
- 11:05It's not to say that he can't get it. He can he can just have you know
- 11:09He could have a crazy season like this like this upcoming season and the next thing, you know, so I'm gonna be like, oh, okay
- 11:15Here's the money right here
- 11:17So it I say all that to say this
- 11:21defensive linemen are starting to be valued more and
- 11:26If you are if you're a team, you know drafts one in the first round there, they're not
- 11:33There's no need for you to really be upset because defensive linemen now are starting to become bigger are starting to become
- 11:41More nimble. They're starting to be more athletic. They're starting to
- 11:45Be, you know, somewhat undersized a little bit
- 11:50But you don't allow that undersized to you know to sort of like steer you away if that makes sense
- 11:57Right when you look at for instance collage, you can see right perv exam, but collage. You can't see when he was coming out
- 12:02I was head over heels for collage. You can see because I was like, yo, this dude is super fast
- 12:08He had you know one of the fastest 40 times for defensive tackle and whatnot. I'm like, yo, he pops out
- 12:14But since then I mean he probably hasn't done a whole lot, but you know at some point
- 12:21He's gonna pop off he is and so, you know
- 12:25Defensive coordinators are starting to value
- 12:28Pass rushers in defensive linemen more they are even GM's
- 12:32That's why they're putting more money into them because they realize that guess what?
- 12:37Offensive coordinators are starting to run the ball more. So with them running the ball more you need to counteract that
- 12:43What's the best way to counteract that?
- 12:46defensive line
- 12:48Defensive line now it's not to say that there's gonna be a bunch of Chris Jones's and you know
- 12:53Aaron Donald's coming out of the league for the next few years, but if you get someone that's productive
- 12:59Inconsistent someone like a Kenny Clark if you get someone like a Kenny Clark on your defensive line, whoo
- 13:06Man, oh, man. Do you got problems? You got big
- 13:09Big
- 13:11Problems, all right, so I'll leave that be now
- 13:15I'm just letting you guys know this episode is not gonna be that long be just because I don't want to you know
- 13:21Give you guys just these long drawn-out episodes. We're gonna try to keep things as compact as I possibly can plus
- 13:29This is gonna be a double episode upload. That's right double episode upload. So stay tuned folks
- 13:36Now moving on to the breaking news with Jordan love so according to the athletic
- 13:43Diana Rossini shout out to her and shout out to the athletic. They definitely do a lot of great reporting
- 13:49Jordan love is holding out of training camp until he gets a deal done now
- 13:54Let me stop you right there before you freak out. Okay, all you Packers fans before you freak out before
- 13:59You hit that red button. That's to your left or to your right
- 14:03Relax, okay. This is just out of precaution. This is not because he's disgruntled with the organization
- 14:10This is he's not gonna fall down to tear of Rogers. Okay, so everybody breath
- 14:16Woosa for bed. Okay, breathe
- 14:19Breathe drink you some water. Okay, relax. I'm gonna explain why okay?
- 14:23So with him holding out that's basically precaution because he's trying to get a deal done
- 14:28Okay, and so with him trying to get a deal done. He's probably gonna hold out just because hey
- 14:34You know freak things can happen where he can be in training camp
- 14:38And he drops that's one time and then guess what blows out his knee or tears of killies or anything crazy like that
- 14:43We literally saw
- 14:46The the line we saw who was it drae greenlaw. I think it was drae greenlaw in the Super Bowl
- 14:52Literally tear his Achilles from just from just walking on the field. That's all he did. He didn't do anything crazy
- 15:00All he did was getting himself ready to to go out on the field and he just he just went out on the field
- 15:07Boop and he just or so
- 15:11But I will say this in this in this situation is very unique because both the GM
- 15:17And the agent have somewhat confirmed that you know, they are close to getting a deal done
- 15:23They said probably within the next few days will probably get one
- 15:26So who was to say, you know, maybe it'll happen, you know tomorrow or the day after tomorrow or the day after tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow
- 15:35Who knows but I will say this
- 15:38The Packers are definitely one of that one of the outliers when it comes to the quarterback position, right?
- 15:47You are talking about a team who really has you know hit when it comes to quarterbacks
- 15:54It's I and I want to put it into a perspective like this, right?
- 15:58They had Bart Starr, okay, cool. Then you had
- 16:03Brett Farr, cool. Then you had Aaron Rodgers, cool. Now you got Jordan Love
- 16:11All right, think about that for a second. Remember, remember, remember, remember, remember, I
- 16:17remember clear as day
- 16:20People were losing their minds off of that off of the draft and I'm chuckling about it because I was watching the
- 16:28the Pat McAfee show because they were they were live streaming it and one of one of the guys that actually work
- 16:36For Pat McAfee one of his friends was just losing his mind because he's like, yo, we could have gotten a receiver
- 16:43We could have gotten this we could have gotten that but we got Jordan Love and you know when you really look at it
- 16:49It was a blessing in disguise because
- 16:52Now when you really look at it the Packers in some ways have won that trade with Aaron Rodgers
- 16:57Because now you have a productive a young productive quarterback who basically
- 17:04You know play play the full season
- 17:07Very well and his stats show it. All right
- 17:10When you look at his stats for for this past season just as this past season, right?
- 17:15He had a 64.2 percent
- 17:18completion completion percentage, excuse me
- 17:20He was
- 17:22372 completed passes out of
- 17:24529 attempted passes. He had
- 17:284159 passing yards 32 touchdowns 11 interceptions. He had a
- 17:3547.6 passing percentage, right? Now when you think of passing percentage, you probably wonder what is that?
- 17:42Well, I will inform you because as my GM it is my duty to inform you of these new things, right?
- 17:49So passing success rate, right is basically the successful pass gains at least 40 percent of yards required on the first down
- 17:5860 percent of yards required on second down in a hundred percent on third or fourth downs according to probe football reference
- 18:06Shout out to them, right? And so I say all that to say this
- 18:10That Packers team has not lost the beat. It has it's actually they are a very dangerous
- 18:17dangerous offense because what you're seeing is
- 18:21Jordan Love has already shown like hey, I can do this. I
- 18:26Can do this. I don't I don't care anyone says I know there were a lot of people
- 18:30I know there's a lot of you know, hey sayers nay sayers people saying this people saying that people saying I couldn't do it
- 18:36People saying that you know, they should get rid of them. Just keep Aaron Rogers, but guess what I can do it
- 18:41I'm here. I'm that guy. I am him
- 18:44Hymn the Hemi Tron Hemi Williams, right? Hemi Jordan. That's who I am
- 18:51That's what he said. That's what he's showing and so, you know, he has to be fairly compensated for that
- 18:58You know, I will probably say the best thing for him
- 19:02Was for him to sit on under Aaron Rogers because it allowed him to be able to see the various
- 19:09You know situations that you're gonna have to endure with being a franchise quarterback. It does and
- 19:17you know
- 19:18History has shown that the Packers have handled the quarterback
- 19:23Transition fairly well. They had Aaron Rogers sit under Brett Favre
- 19:28They had Jordan Love sit under Aaron Rogers and my mind both of those situations played out fairly well
- 19:35It really did now, you know, who was to say that, you know, Jordan Love will continue to do the same thing
- 19:42I don't know. I don't have a crystal ball. I keep telling you guys that my crystal ball is still charging is on the right side
- 19:48It was in the right corner of my office. Okay, it's in the right corner of my office still charging. It's about at what?
- 19:5665 65. Okay. Yeah 60%
- 19:59Okay, so I'm saying all that to say this Jordan Love has definitely wowed a lot of people
- 20:06And he's gonna continue to do it. He is you're talking about somebody
- 20:12who is
- 20:14You know is going toe-to-toe with some of the best offenses in his own division
- 20:20Not only in his own division when you look at the Lions offense, that's top tier when you look at the Vikings offense
- 20:28That's top tier when you look at the Bears. They have the potential not right now
- 20:34Potential to be a top offense
- 20:36That's a lot. That is a whole lot
- 20:40Now who was to say that, you know, this will it'll be this
- 20:45somewhat offensive frenzy within that division do I believe it's gonna happen possibly
- 20:51But the only difference is out of all of those teams, right?
- 20:56The Bears the Lions and the Packers are the only three teams that actually have defenses to
- 21:03You know to make a critical stop the Vikings really don't
- 21:07But who knows maybe things will change, but I'm gonna say all that to say this, right?
- 21:14When you look at Jordan Jordan loves his market value, right?
- 21:18Jordan loves his market value. It's four years two hundred and eleven point eight
- 21:24Million dollars
- 21:26That's a lot of money. That's a lot of money if you would have told me
- 21:32That we would be having quarterback deals that would crest over it the hundred million dollar mark
- 21:39Even the two hundred million dollar mark. I would have called you a liar
- 21:43I would have laughed at you until I couldn't breathe
- 21:48But it's now become a norm
- 21:50Now does Jordan love deserve all that money?
- 21:55Yes and no
- 21:57I will probably say they still need probably a few more pieces just to just to like really make them like
- 22:04You know more than a playoff team possibly a Super Bowl team
- 22:07I do think and I still you know
- 22:10I still do believe that if a quarterback does take a little a little bit less it gives the team flexibility to
- 22:18Go after you know a top tier player just to really change things up and to really
- 22:24Boost their odds of you know making a deep play off right now
- 22:29You know is there a chance that you know Jordan love could take less? Yes, it is a possibility
- 22:35but
- 22:36You know who was to say that he would get another opportunity like this to be making this type of money, right?
- 22:42So, you know
- 22:44Congratulations to Jordan love because I know he's gonna get his deal fairly soon and when he does we would definitely report on that
- 22:51But what in the episode here if you guys like what you are listening, please please please please please

- 24:12Not fiction, but a fact
- 24:15Okay, and why the Pittsburgh Steelers may possibly may possibly
- 24:20I got I got to crack myself up when I say this may possibly make a deep playoff run
